Chapter Text

Well, you wouldn't call it a disaster. Everyone seems to be having fun, but...

“What do you mean you can't get out?!”

Horror beamed up at you, the sand shifting around what you think is his shoulders as he wiggled a little, “'m buried vertically...and i can't....shortcut like the others.”

“Verti- but you're HUGE!

“you should probably start digging then,” Killer looked at the two of you over his sunglasses from where he was sprawled out on a towel. Next to him lay the stacked remains of countless nicecreams and bisicles.

“Nah, he just lives there now,” you decided, bypassing the beaches new 'Easter Island Skull' to take the beach chair next to Nightmare's.

“How are you holding up?” you asked, grabbing one of the seven bottles of sunscreen the boys had brought for you. It was the thought that counted. “Does the sun offend your delicate goopy sensibilities? Are your 'fun' allergies acting up?”

Nightmare didn't even look up from his book, dropping a black tentacle square into your lap with a wet smack. Curiously, you poked at it. It felt weird, kind of like-oh.

“Oh noooo,” you tried to sound more sympathetic than amused, but were failing miserably based on the skeleton's expression. Gently, you ran your nails down the gritty ooze, sand gathering on your fingers, “Is it...everywhere?”

He sighed, prying the sunscreen our of your hands and scooting to sit behind you, “Anything that's touched the ground. Oh, and Killer threw a wet...sandball? at my head.”

“Sandball? Well, points for creativity. Does it hurt?” You jumped as cold sunscreen hit your shoulders.

“A little irritating, but I've been a little irritated since I picked Killer up from his waste of a world. Is this supposed to soak in or something?” He rubbed harder at your back, bending you forward.

“Sort of, you probably put too much. You can scrape it off and do my legs, it's fine.”

Nightmare was quiet.

Not like that! We are in public!” you twisted and batted at the laughing Guardian.

“That never stopped you and Killer,” he let you swat at him, clearly in good humor, “Unrelated, but have you seen Dust anywhere?”

“Oh, yeah. He's trying to become one with the ocean. I checked on him before I came back up here; he's lying facedown in the shallows.”

“That sounds about right. He'll be bitching about salt deposits on the inside of his skull for a week.”

You finished rubbing the excess sunscreen into your legs and stood, giving Nightmare a thank you nuzzle before heading back into the water. “Duuuust! Come help me dig Horror out so we can have lunch!”
