Scenes of a Changed World

Summary:

In a world where PicoDevimon is the Chosen Digimon for the Child of Light, some things end up changing.

Notes:

This is where I'm putting scenes of things that happen in the cannon of this series but feel like they are too small for their own fic.

Chapter 1: Enough Common Ground

Summary:

With Aquilamon and Ankylomon Jogress Evolving together, PicoDevimon has trouble believing that he and Patamon are capable of reaching it together.

Thankfully, Patamon is friend-shaped and has no trouble stopping PicoDevimon's self-worth issues!

Notes:

*holds PicoDevimon to the audience* This bad boy can fit so many self-worth issues!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"So, here's where you're hiding." And yet you still came to bother me. PicoDevimon can't help think as Patamon lands on the branch of the tree he'd been hiding on. "What are you moping about?"

"The Jogress Evolutions." Patamon doesn't speak, probably also thinking about what happened yesterday and what it means for them, "And what it means for us, that we're the ones who are left." Because with the Child of Pure Love and Child of Faithful Knowledge turning out to be Jogress Evolution partners... it left Hikari and Takeru as the last two. Light and Hope. Virus and Vaccine.

A Devimon and an Angemon.

Hikari was very excited about the prospect but he feels like Taichi is correct, it's like the Universe is playing a massive joke on them.

"I... I eavesdropped on a conversation Taichi had with the Child of Knowledge last night."

"Is that so. And what was discussed in this conversation that has you in such a depressive mood that even Hikari noticed." She had?! Oh no! Nonononononono! Hikari wasn't supposed to notice! "She was talking about it to Takeru when they were heading to gym class."

PicoDevimon sighs, clearly he isn't going to get out of this conversation, he can panic later. "They feel like something went wrong. That clearly, a Virus Digimon and Vaccine Digimon in a Jogress Evolution is not impossible, Paildramon is proof that of that, but because of our natures as Angemon and Devimon it's clearly impossible."

"Eh? Now, wait a minute-"

"I mean, I agree! The two of us have nothing in common!" He's spiraling, he knows he is, but he can't stop! "You're friendly and encouraging, an all-around nice Digimon to be around..."

"PicoDevimon-"

"...and I'm a violently selfish Digimon. I don't want to save the world, I want Hikari safe, everything else is a byproduct of that." This is it. The basis of who PicoDevimon is, selfishness concealed under the thin veneer of wanting to save the world. Now the Digimon of Hope will understand how much of a terrible being he is and-

"The first time I evolved wasn't to save the Digital World." PicoDevimon turns to look at his current company in surprise. Patamon is staring through the window of the gymnasium where their partners are having class, "I evolved because I wanted to protect Takeru. Sure, killing Devimon ended up being for the good of the Digital World, but that's not why I did it." It feels surreal to have Patamon say that. He's never known the Digimon to be anything but righteous, nice, and maybe a bit naive, so to hear him acknowledge that he too, is selfish, eases some of the worries he has.

"You want to keep Hikari safe, and I want to keep Takeru safe. That's enough common ground between us for me." Patamon suddenly gains a look on his face that PicoDevimon has only seen in his evolutions. "And in the end, whether we Jogress Evolve together or not doesn't matter. Not as long as we're able to keep them both safe."

"Enough common ground between us uh..."

"Wanna slap on it?" He looks up, Patamon has one of his wings out, that serious look still on his face, and PicoDevimon grins, extending one of his own.

"Sure, why not."

They slap wings. It feels like acceptance.

Notes:

So, in this AU Miyako and Iori are Jogress Partners, where Iori learned to be less 'disciplined' and Miyako learned to be less 'impulsive' making them find a middle ground where both can work, and as such Griffmon was born (shut up I know I'm unoriginal!), Golden King of the Skies and Mountains with his two sets of wings and rock-like feathers, what it lacks in size (he's no bigger than Aquilamon) it makes up in sheer power.

Chapter 2: No More Doubts

Summary:

He feels bad about it, but there had always been a doubt in the back of his mind.

Notes:

This is during the first night after Chimeramon got unleashed.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"PicoDevimon thinks you want to eat him."

Those... are not the words he expects to hear from his best friend as she sits down next to him the night after the Digimon Emperor released Chimeramon. "What?"

"You're being too nice, so PicoDevimon thinks you want to eat him." He turns to look at the spot where the Digimon are resting, only to see PicoDevimon startle and look away in a rush. "See, he's very worried."

He laughs at that because PicoDevimon has been a ball of nerves nearly 24/7 since he'd joined the group three years ago.

"So what's up?"

He sighs, "You're going to hit me." Hikari-chan giggles a bit, before bumping shoulders with him, "It's just... There was always this inkling of doubt."

"Aaah, about Devimon?"

"Yes, and I- I know, that we've already talked about this three years ago!" This being Takeru's inability to work alongside a Devimon. It had caused a bit of friction between the two of them, and it had culminated when they had a small blowout when leaving Mugendramon's city, and to this day Hikari-chan's words would ring in his head whenever he saw PicoDevimon evolve.

He's not the same Devimon! He's my partner!

Three years ago those words, and seeing Devimon and Angemon work side by side had been almost enough. But, every once in a while Takeru had a little voice in the back of his head going, are you sure? And he could never be. "But at that moment, seeing his data being collected for Chimeramon... sorry, but I finally fully believed it."

The two stand there in silence before Hikari-chan sighs, "I'm not mad."

"Eh?"

Hikari-chan smiles, "I'm not mad that you're relieved Takeru-kun. I know that I probably would be worried about the same thing if I had to work alongside a Vamdemon."

He laughs a bit, and he's sure that the disbelief is clear in it, "To be honest I thought you'd hit me for doubting PicoDevimon." She giggles at that.

"As I said, I'm not angry and I understand. Besides, that never stopped you from being polite to him." Ah yes, the most important thing for Hikari-chan: being polite to her partner. He'd honestly forgotten about that.

"So you're... NOT planning to eat me?" PicoDevimon asks from where he'd moved next to Hikari-chan during their conversation. Takeru just laughs and grabs him before the little Digimon can make a run for it, locking him in the equivalent of a noogie.

The following ruckus of Hikari-chan and his own laughter, and PicoDevimon's indignant squawking ends up waking up everyone else.

Notes:

Takeru canonically has problems concerning Devimon's whole existence, so it figures that he'd have a problem concerning PicoDevimon's main evolution being what it is, and that would only go away after seeing Devimon's data being collected.

Hikari has a... history let's say, of hitting people (and Digimon) who are rude to PicoDevimon.

Chapter 3: Light of the Underworld, Cerberusmon!

Summary:

Iori honestly thinks he looks terrifying, but he won't be the one telling Hikari-san that.

Notes:

The Digimental Up! episode in the PicoDevimon series. Also, I'm aware that a Cerberumon already exists canonically, but I'm ignoring that for this universe. It also ended up being very short, so I'm sorry...

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Iori doesn't know whether to be surprised, elated, or terrified. On one hand, Patamon and PicoDevimon Armor Evolving means more firepower against the Digimon Kaiser. On the other hand... it means having to see PicoDevimon's evolution on a daily basis, and he's not sure he can handle it...

"They were ours! They were our Digimentals, Cerberusmon." They were, and Iori would be more scared if Cerberusmon wasn't running around Hikari-san like an excited puppy. It's a bit disturbing to see considering his actual size.

"It's great Hikari! Now we can fight too!"

"Right?! And you look so handsome too!" Iori honestly thinks he looks terrifying, but he won't be the one telling Hikari-san that. "You too Pegasmon!"

Pegasmon inclines his head at that, before righting himself up, "We should head back to the others now. You good to go, Cerberusmon?"

Cerberusmon grins at that (and oh dear that's too many teeth for Iori's peace of mind!) before lowering himself so Hikari-san can get on his back, "Born ready Pony!"

If Pegasmon is offended by the nickname he doesn't show it, simply approaching Iori so he can get on his back, "Good to know Doggy." When the Virus Digimon laughs at the nickname Iori is beginning to realize he'll never understand the... friendship these two have.

While on the way to help Miyako-san and Daisuke-san, Iori finally gets a good look at Cerberusmon.

He looks... just as terrifying in broad daylight as he did in the dark of the cave.

He's canine in shape and pitch back in color, with a tail and wings that definitely remain from his PicoDevimon origins. Like Pegasmon he's also clad in armor, only his is silver in contrast to the other's gold. A chest plate with the Crest of Light carved into it, vambraces on his front legs in a design similar to Pegasmon's, and a headpiece that frames his three eyes (in a design that reminds Iori of the ones seen on old greek soldiers) with a bat-like symbol carved in the center of it. One of his eyes is focused in the sky ahead of them while the other two apparently keep a lookout, and Iori wonders if he gets overwhelmed with all the information he's clearly getting. The one eye in his left side (the green one Iori notes) suddenly stops and focuses on him, "Anything wrong New Child of Knowledge?"

Iori startles at that, before looking away embarrassed at being caught, "No, nothing. Just... wondering how much longer it will take us to reach the others."

"Not much, I can feel the energy given out by the Evil Rings getting closer."

"He's right." Pegasmon adds, "I can feel it too, get ready everyone!"

At the end of the day, Iori isn't sure how to feel about Cerberusmon. He's not the only one, as Miyako-san and Daisuke-san also seemed unsure of him, but the older Chosen Children didn't seem to have a problem and neither did the Digimon.

Plus it had been pretty funny, to see the Kaiser balk at the fact that Styx Howl could override the control function of the Evil Rings for a small amount of time, giving Pegasmon the opportunity to use Shooting Star to destroy the rings while the Digimon were confused. It's a look that Iori will remember for some time.

So, he'll apologize for his reaction when he sees PicoDevimon the next day. It wasn't really fair of him to judge him solely on his appearance.

Although, he still wouldn't want to be in a dark place with Cerberusmon...

Notes:

Poor, poor Iori, you're too young to be subjected to this, and yet...

Patamon and PicoDevimon have silly nicknames for each other, it's how they show affection!

Listen I'm aware that Cerberus doesn't HAVE wings, but I'm not taking criticism on Cerberusmon having them, it just goes with the devil aesthetic! And Styx Howl is supposed to control the opponent for a small amount of time, but due to the Evil Ring control feature, they end up canceling each other and it doesn't work on the Evil Spiral at all.
