The World of the Dream SMP (my worldbuilding headcanons)

Summary:

After what must be hundreds of hours on Discord call with my best friend and an even longer time in my own brain, I’ve come up with a lot of headcanons for the Dream SMP, as well as other SMPs I watch. So, I figured, why not share them with the Internet?

If you want to use these headcanons as writing prompts, feel free to! My only request is that you credit me and tag any AO3 works as inspired by this one, I’d love to see what you come up with!

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

Hi!

So, as stated in the description, this is a collection of my headcanons for the Dream SMP, as well other SMPs and how they connect to each other. This is a way for me to ramble about my headcanons with an audience who will be interested by them!

Commenting is very much encouraged! I’d love to hear feedback on my ideas, and feel free to let me know of any ideas you get that are inspired by my own! If you want, we can talk about them in the comments! (or private messaging if AO3 has that, I don’t think it does but I’m fairly new to having an account on here haha)

On that note, feel free to use my worldbuilding ideas and headcanons in your fanfics! My only request is that you credit me as your inspiration, or tag any AO3 works as inspired by this one. I’d really love to see what the creators in this fandom come up with!

You may have noticed that this work is part of a series! It’s a collection of oneshots that I’m currently working on, which all take place in the universe I have created. It takes place about two years into the future and features a version of the SMP that has mostly recovered from all the war and bloodshed it’s been through. Also, certain events haven’t happened, like Charlie and Ranboo’s death, Dream escaping prison or Quackity torturing him in prison. This reduces angst and helps create a happier environment for the characters to live in. (Also the deaths are removed because I’m in denial. Sue me.) I put this work in the series because a lot of the worldbuilding and headcanons apply to it, and it just makes things a lot easier to navigate for readers.

One final note to mention before I get started. If something I suggest goes against the CCs boundaries, please inform me immediately so I can edit it. I don’t want to disrespect them or go against any boundaries they have set, so please let me know if I do.

Alright, that’s about it! Enjoy my headcanons and worldbuilding, and let me know what you think!

Chapter 2: The World of the Dream SMP

Summary:

This chapter focuses on the world the Dream SMP is set in, as well as other SMPs that I’m including. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • Okay, so the Dream SMP is set on the continent of Somnium.
  • The word Somnium means Dream in Latin, and SMP, or Essempi, is a word derived from a language that nobody speaks anymore, supposedly meaning “continent”.
  • This allows countries to exist, such as Snowchester, Kinoko Kingdom, Las Nevadas and L’manburg. (o7)
  • Greater SMP is known as Greater Somnium, and isn’t the rest of the continent that doesn’t have a kingdom governing it, but rather a large section of it. There are still villages, and even a few kingdoms that don’t fall under Eret’s rule. They prefer not to concern themselves with what goes on with the countries we all know and love.
  • Of course, travel between countries is rather easy, mainly due to the Nether highways, which i headcanon to be a lot safer than they are in the actual game, due to the existence of regular citizens. That being said, travel between continents is a lot trickier, as the journey is a lot longer and various security checks have to be made.
  • Speaking of other continents, there’s quite a few!
  • One of the most important continents is Terra, or SMP Earth. Several important countries exist here, but the most important is the Antarctic Federation, previously known as the Antarctic Empire when it was still ruled over by Emperor Zephyrus, before he died in mysterious circumstances.
  • The capital of the Antarctic Federation, Port-aux-Francais, is where Wilbur and Tommy were born and raised by Phil. Techno and Tubbo were raised here as well.
  • Other locations in Terra include the countries of Newfoundland and Business Bay.
  • Another key continent is Fons, or Origins SMP.
  • A thing to note about the word Fons is that, according to Google Translate, it means Spring in Latin. I couldn’t use the Latin word for Origins because it was too similar, so I used the word for Source instead, which came up as Fons. However, when I typed it back in, it said the English translation was Spring. Long story short, Google Translate fucked me over, but I like the word Fons and I’m not going to change it.
  • Anyway, the continent doesn’t have any actual countries, and is mostly made up of villages ranging in size, from a few houses to a small city.
  • However, in recent years, a large company known as Noxcrew came in and built a large stadium for a series of games known as the Championships. These games are like the Olympics in terms of popularity, with the added bonus that they are blessed by the five main gods, who watch from their own private booths. Competitors are granted temporary infinite lives, so they lose no lives while taking part. After the games are over, their life count returns to how it used to be before.
  • The largest continent in the world is known as the Hermitlands. It was previously known by a different name and only contained a few small villages before the entire landmass was bought by a company known as Hermitcraft. This happened a very long time ago.
  • Hermitcraft is a company that is made up of a tight-knit group of immortals, who are all talented builders, with some being skilled redstoners as well. Over a span of a few decades, the Hermits will build up a large country. Once they have finished, they will move on, and the country will become inhabited by the regular citizens of the Hermitlands. They have completed eight of these countries so far.
  • The continent of Imperia, or Empires SMP, contains a large amount of magic, even more so than the rest of the world.
  • (I should mention that Imperia translates to governments when put into Google Translate. It should translate to Empires, but once again, it’s fucking me over.)
  • Imperia is credited as the homeland of several magical creatures, such as fairies from The Overgrown, elves from Rivendell, and merlings from the Ocean Empire. They also have the largest wizard academy in the world, situated in the Crystal Cliffs.
  • The continent of Hypixel is most famous for two things: its floating islands and its array of tournaments.
  • The floating islands are collectively a country known as Skyblock, ruled over by a mayor. People here are mostly focused on farming, sometimes to an unhealthy extent.
  • There are several tournaments played on the mainland of Hypixel, but the most famous is Bedwars. Rumour has it that Bedwars originated on another planet, but that has never been confirmed.
  • The Badlands is a continent too, and is where Dream, George and Sapnap were raised. The Badlands faction was named after the continent as an homage by Bad to the place he raised his son.
  • The main landmass of the Badlands is a giant Mesa biome. Nomad bands of mercenaries frequent the wild areas in between countries.
  • However, the continent is also the host of the largest amount of islands out of all the continents. One of these islands is Old Waters, the island where Dream, George and Sapnap were raised. Old Waters is pretty important, so I’m dedicating it an entire chapter to itself some point in the future.
  • One more continent to mention is Vivet, or SMP Live. I don’t know much about SMP Live, so Vivet isn’t as fleshed out as the others, but it is canon to the Dream SMP, so I’m sort of required to mention it.

Notes:

So, yeah! Let me know if you have any ideas about Vivet, I’m honestly not too sure on anything that happened on SMP Live. Please tell me if I’ve left any spelling or grammar errors, it’s very much appreciated. As always, I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 3: Deities of the Dream SMP

Summary:

This chapter focuses on the deities that are worshipped on the collection of SMPs that make up the planet. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • So the first god that comes to mind when I think of the Dream SMP is XD.
  • He’s pretty integral to the plot, as he’s the creator of the Revival Book, as well as another book involving death that we’re unsure about.
  • Which is odd, as he is not the most commonly worshipped god in Somnium. (But we’ll get to that later.) His worship is mainly found in the Badlands.
  • XD is the God of Creation and is part of the Main Five Gods, along with the gods of Life, Death, Destruction and Balance. His full title is Lord DreamXD, although it is commonly shortened to just Lord XD. He’s Dream, GD (Girl Dream) and Drista’s father, and is currently pursuing a romantic relationship with George.
  • The God of Life is known as Lady Prime, although she uses the name Clara when in her human disguise. Her worship is the most common in Somnium, and she doubles as the God of Space.
  • The God of Death, as most of us can guess, is Kristin. She is referred to as Lady Death, as people fear of summoning her by using her name. Her worship is most common in Terra, and the largest temple dedicated to her is located in Port-aux-Francais, the former capital of the Antarctic Empire.
  • The God of Destruction is Herobrine. He is given a bad reputation due to the destructive nature of the dimension he rules (the Nether) and some large cults that worshipped him a long time ago, such as the Wither Cult. He is also the main god that rules the Nether. (There are others, but we’ll get to them later.)
  • The God of Balance is the Ender Dragon, or as she is commonly referred as, Lady En. Other titles include the Queen of the End and the Mother Dragon. She goes by Jean when disguised as a human, and is also the main god of the End. She's also Ranboo's mother!
  • These five deities are the oldest and most powerful out of all the gods that are currently worshipped, but there are two sets of deities that are older and more powerful.
  • The first set are known only as the Council. This group consists of Slimecicle, Condifiction, GrizzlyPlays and Bizly. Their jobs as gods have largely remained the same, but Condi has taken up Grizzly's role in order for En and Herobrine to rule over the End and Nether respectively. Grizzly is now the god that rules over Inferno, which I'll explain in further detail in a later chapter.
  • The most powerful god is unnamed. They are only known by their title: The Personification of the Void. This god created everything seen in the three worlds, then created other gods to maintain certain aspects.
  • Most gods, however, are less powerful than the Main Five, and can be sorted into four separate classes that span across several generations: Concept Gods, Overworld Gods, Nether Gods and End Gods.
  • On the subject of generations, it refers to what order each batch of gods were created. The SCU Council are known as the First Generation, the Main Five are the Second Generation, and there is also a Third, Fourth and Fifth Generation.
  • Concept Gods refer to gods that have dominion over things such as War, Love, Wisdom, and the like. This class also refers to gods that rule over aspects of nature that occur in several dimensions, for example Fire and Ice.
  • Most gods in this class are from the Third Generation. However, there are notable exceptions, such as Callahan, the God of Nature, and Foolish, God of Rebirth, who come from the Fourth Generation, and Karl, God of Time, and Drista, God of Trickery, who come from the Fifth.
  • Gods from this class include The Inbetween, the God of Order, and The Other Side, the God of Chaos. They're Karl's parents, and are currently arguing over custody, despite the fact that Karl is a grown man.
  • Aeor and Exor, the Twin Gods of Ice and Fire, are also included in this class.
  • Overworld Gods are also a mix of Third and Fourth Generation. The Ocean Overlord is part of this class, as is the God of The Moon, who managed to gain a cult in the Hermitlands for a brief period of time.
  • When it comes to Nether Gods, it refers to gods that serve under Herobrine. The most powerful god in this class is Eret, who's title is The Nether Prince and is part of the Fourth Generation. The other gods in this class are a mix of Third and Fourth Generation.
  • Some Nether Gods include The Blood God, The Patron of Piglins, and the Blaze Empress, who has dominion over the Nether Wastes. The Egg is also a god from this class, and will have dominion over the Crimson Forests once it hatches.
  • Finally, we come to the End Gods. Not much is known about them, as the End is a place shrouded in mystery. The most well known god, apart from En herself, is the Patron of Elytrians, as elytrians come from the Outer Islands.
  • However, Ranboo is also a deity from the Fifth Generation, although he is unaware of this due to his memory issues. His title is The End Prince.
  • Fans of Phil's Season 4 Hardcore Lore might notice that I've neglected to include The Ender King. I'm saving his story, and the story of Endlantis as a whole, for a future chapter.

Notes:

So, yeah! Let me know if there's any gods I could add to the pantheon, I have a Notes document on my phone for my own reference. Please tell me if I’ve left any spelling or grammar errors, it’s very much appreciated. As always, I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 4: The End Realm (Why people are not allowed to go to the End)

Summary:

This chapter is focused on the End, and its history as a dimension, including the War for Endlantis and why the dimension can no longer be accessed. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • The most important thing to note is that En was not always the Queen of The End.
  • Now, don’t get me wrong, she’s always been the God of The End, but the actual ruling was handled by a royal family.
  • They were seen as the ultimate authority, second only to En herself. No monarch could be crowned without her blessing, but once they received it, they gained immense power, not enough to be counted as gods, but still enough to make them incredibly strong.
  • This system worked well, and there was little to no corruption from the rulers, until The Ender King.
  • Under The Ender King’s rule, the End Islands flourished, but no more so than the city of Endlantis. New technological and magical advancements were made, specifically with portals.
  • The Ender King learned how to create portals the size of structures, and discovered that he could steal parts of the other two dimensions.
  • His greed got the better of him, and he began to steal from The Overworld and The Nether, adding sections of every biome to his collection.
  • The people living in Endlantis saw nothing wrong with this, and supported their king’s decision. The only one to oppose him was his son, who was quietly and quickly disposed of.
  • (Don’t worry, he didn’t die. He was merely exiled to The Overworld, where he began living with a colony of hybrids in Fons, alongside the namesakes of many of the current day cast, as well as a much younger Philza.)
  • But anyway, back to The Ender King.
  • Eventually, his hubris got the better of him. He became so arrogant that he even dared to steal land from the homes of gods, specifically the Ocean Overlord and the Blaze Empress.
  • Now, stealing land from a God Home is a bad idea, as the magic of The Personification of the Void works to fill the gaps in if another god doesn’t patch the cracks in time.
  • This results in The Nether Void and Flowerfall, which remain the same as they are as of the current day.
  • It also catches the attention of the gods, who realise what’s going on in The End. A meeting is called, containing the entire Second and Third Generations of gods. (The Fifth Generation haven’t been created yet, and the Fourth are too young.)
  • En has the final say, as it’s her dimension. She decides to kill The Ender King herself, and punish the city of Endlantis by flooding it.
  • Since The Ender King is dead, and nobody knows what happened to his heir, En decides to take the throne and relocate the capital city to the city surrounding her God Home.
  • Several centuries pass, and En decides to have an heir. She doesn’t need one, something both she and her council are aware of, but she wants to be a mother, so she creates Ranboo.
  • Ranboo’s life is good for the first few years. He doesn’t want for anything as the End Prince, but his mother makes sure that he doesn’t become spoiled.
  • He lives this life for around seven to eight years, until a brave group of bandits from The Overworld kidnap him whilst En is distracted by a godly meeting.
  • He manages to escape them once they reach The Overworld, but is half submerged in water in the process. This causes burns to appear all along his left side and for his left eye to turn red. It also is the cause of his memory loss.
  • He forgets his mother and his home. All he remembers is that his name is Ranboo.
  • He wanders for a few days before he is taken in by an orphanage in Greater Somnium. When asked for his surname, he responds with “Beloved”, as he has a faint memory of a woman calling him “Ranboo, my beloved.”
  • Meanwhile, En is grieving the loss of her son. Patrols are sent out to try and find him, but when they come back empty handed, she flies into a fit of rage.
  • Visitors to The End are now killed the moment En finds out about their existence in her dimension. Many endermen are sent to The Overworld as scouts, desperately looking for their lost prince in order to stop the Queen’s wrath.
  • For everyone’s safety, the gods ban travel to the main End Islands.
  • The search for the Prince carries on, but nobody realises how heavily scarred he is, or how he doesn’t remember his past.
  • Don’t worry, though. Ranboo is eventually reunited with his mother, and the ban is lifted.
  • Although he doesn’t live in The End full-time, he makes frequent visits, usually bringing Michael and Tubbo along.
  • En absolutely adores her grandson.

Notes:

So, yeah! Now you know why the End is banned, and a little bit about its history! I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 5: The Afterlife

Summary:

This chapter is focused on the afterlife, such as Limbo. It also shows the lives (or afterlives) of those who have canonically died on the Dream SMP. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • The first level of the afterlife is Limbo, which takes the form of the individual’s personal hell. Only those who have not sinned in their life, or have not committed enough sins to warrant a place in Limbo can exit this place. Others are condemned to waste away their newfound three lives.
  • That’s right. Once an individual dies, they are given a new set of lives to use in the afterlife. If they are over thirty five years old, they are reverted back to that age.
  • (A thing to note about the ageing process: you can still die permanently of old age, even if you have all three lives. Just thought I should mention that.)
  • Anyway, back to the afterlife.
  • If a soul is not sent to Limbo, they are sent to one of two places. The first is the Aether, also known as the Realm of the Gods.
  • Most gods have domains where souls can be sent to. What domain a soul is sent to is completely randomised, except in the case of demigods, who are sent to their parent god’s domain, or those who worship a specific god, who are sent to the domain of the god they worship.
  • Some gods do not have domains in the Aether. This is either because they have a parent who is also a god, and they therefore live in their parent’s domain (such as Drista, Eret, Ranboo and Karl), or because they are Nether or End gods.
  • Other than the gods and the souls of the dead, the domains are also home to natural-born citizens. Certain species can only be found here, such as demons and ore hybrids.
  • The other place a soul can be sent is Inferno. Only the truly wicked souls who committed unforgivable acts in their lifetime are sent here. They undergo heavy torture until all of their lives are used up and they are reborn.
  • Grizzly oversees punishment in Inferno. If anyone tries to escape, his army of immortal hounds will hunt them down and rip them to shreds.
  • It is possible to escape the afterlife and return with all three lives intact. Only those who are sent to Limbo attempt this, as those in the Aether are content with their lives and those in Inferno are unable to escape.
  • Before we get to characters who have died, let’s focus a little on life in the Aether.
  • Travel between domains is possible, so people are able to move to different places or visit friends and family. This is accomplished through the use of spirit trains.
  • When a soul is first sent to the Aether, they will manifest in the train station and be teleported to the correct platform once they have received their ticket.
  • Natural-born citizens can use the spirit trains to travel to the Overworld. The souls of the dead, however, are unable to do this.
  • Each god’s domain is personally tailored to their liking. Foolish’s, for example, is a city located on the coast of a large ocean, modelled in the style of an Ancient Egyptian city.
  • When it comes to jobs, many souls choose to work as servants for the gods, as it pays well and they no longer have to pay rent. However, some gods can be temperamental, so it is not a job without risks.
  • Another popular job, especially for those in Kristin’s domain, is working as a reaper for her. Many people choose this job because it gives them the ability to transform into a crow.
  • Now, let’s focus on the afterlives of those who have died.
  • Wilbur was sent to Limbo as a result of the deaths of some citizens of L’manburg when he blew it up. His Limbo is a train station because he was aware of the spirit trains (Phil told him). Now, he has to sit on an unused platform and watch the trains go by, never stopping to collect him.
  • Kristin’s original plan was to let him wait here for a while until he had been punished enough, then send a train to bring him to her domain. However, Dream reviving him stopped her from doing so.
  • Upon his arrival, Ghostbur was sent to Kristin’s domain. She gave him a cabin in a field, where he lives with Friend.
  • Mexican Dream was sent to XD’s domain, before his girlfriend was able to pray for his revival.
  • Tommy was supposed to go to the Aether, but there was a mixup and he was sent to Limbo instead. This happens on rare occasions, and it would’ve been fixed, but once again, Dream reviving him prevented this.
  • Schlatt’s gym serves as a midway point between the Overworld and the Afterlife. Technically speaking, Schlatt doesn’t belong to the Aether, Limbo or Inferno, as the circumstances surrounding his lives were… special. This is how Glatt doesn’t appear to have any memory problems, and is able to run his gym, as well as his AirBnB with Connor.

Notes:

So, yeah! I dedicate this chapter to myself and my best friend, since we share a birthday, which is today! (18th January) I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 6: Eret and Foolish (their backstory)

Summary:

This chapter focuses on Eret and Foolish’s backstory, as well as the origins of the Wither Cult. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • Eret was born to Herobrine, the God of Destruction and the Nether, as a fourth generation god. They were given the title The Nether Prince at birth.
  • Eret’s creation was…odd, to say the least. All fourth generation gods manifested as infants and only stopped growing once they reached their twenties. Eret, however, was the only one to share DNA with another god.
  • The others were creations of the Personification of the Void, and thus the only genetic similarities between any of them was that they were gods.
  • Many third generation gods stepped up to take care of the newly formed fourth generation at the time. However, they were more mentor-pupil relationships rather than parent-child.
  • Herobrine created Eret in the same way En created Ranboo, so he was biologically her father. No mother was present, but there didn’t need to be.
  • Eret was a very sheltered child, as the Nether was a dangerous place to be raised in. Also, many mortals despised Herobrine and were more than willing to hurt his child if it meant getting to him.
  • Still, the other gods were aware of Eret’s existence, as Herobrine brought him to many important events. In fact, he was both the flower girl and ring bearer at Kristin and Phil’s wedding.
  • But enough on Eret. Now to Foolish.
  • Foolish was an oddity when it came to his powers. His main godly influence was Rebirth, but he also controlled Storms. As such, he was mentored by two gods: Lady Death and The Ocean Overlord.
  • The Ocean Overlord mentored him first, until he was sixteen. As such, he spent a lot of time in the Overworld, and even amassed a small cult by the time he left to study under Kristin.
  • Now, Kristin knew that Foolish and Eret were the same age, and that Eret didn’t have many friends, so she and Herobrine agreed to introduce the two.
  • They got along well, and even when Foolish returned to the Overworld, they still kept in contact through letters.
  • Over time, Foolish’s cult grew until it was the size of a country. He built a large temple for himself at the cult’s hub, and jokingly called it his summer home. The name stuck, and it is still known as the country of Summerhome to this day.
  • As his cult grew, Foolish became more bloodthirsty, and he went through a particularly violent period  during this time. He grew out of it after a while, but it was just as he was shaking of the last few dregs of violence that Eret approached for help with the Wither Cult.
  • But who are the Wither Cult, exactly?
  • It’s generally accepted by mortals that Herobrine is an evil and destructive god, even if that’s not the case. This mostly creates fear in those of the Overworld, who are too scared to worship him. Those of the Nether know that he is not as terrible as he is portrayed, and those of the End worship En, not him.
  • Once every few centuries or so, however, a cult or two will be created that worships the Herobrine that people believe him to be. They usually commit atrocities in the “name of destruction”, but are also small and disband after a few decades.
  • The Wither Cult is the exception to this rule.
  • They are the largest and longest standing cult dedicated to the warped view of Herobrine, and have committed many horrific acts in his name.
  • Herobrine, having dealt with many cults like this before, is merely resigned to the fact that they will corrupt his image even further. Eret, on the other hand, is furious that they are tarnishing her father’s name, and is spurred to action.
  • After a few years of fighting them on his own, Eret eventually realised he would need help, so he contacts Foolish.
  • Foolish is incredibly eager to fight, as the Wither Cult have been attacking his own cultists for not worshiping Herobrine. Together, alongside a large army that Foolish amassed, the two take on the Wither Cult.
  • It takes a lot of effort, but eventually, they manage. Eret returns to the Nether to tell their father the good news, and promises to meet up with Foolish the next time they’re in the Overworld.
  • The duo don’t reunite until the events of the SMP.

Notes:

So, yeah! It’s a bit shorter than I usually write, but I’ve been a little busy lately, I apologise. I promise that more chapters are coming soon. I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 7: Old Waters

Summary:

This chapter is focused on Old Waters, the island Dream, George and Sapnap grew up on. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • So first of all, I didn’t come up with the name Old Waters. My friend did.
  • I liked the name, but now I think it might be an existing or previously existing location on the SMP.
  • If it is, can somebody please let me know so I can change it?
  • Anyway, for the time being, we’ll call it Old Waters.
  • Old Waters is an island town in the Badlands. It’s small, but it’s peaceful, and solely operates on maritime trade.
  • Sam was the first to come here, as he was born on the island and wanted to return to his roots.
  • Bad and Skeppy were next, after they made the trip from the Aether to the Overworld.
  • Puffy was the last one to arrive, as she had stopped at the island once before and got pregnant, so she wanted to raise her children there.
  • Sam had brought an infant George with him, then when George was a few months old Puffy gave birth to Dream and GD, then a month after that Bad and Skeppy found baby Sapnap during a trip to the Nether.
  • Sam found and adopted Quackity a year later.
  • Now, even though Old Waters was a small town, it was still home to a church of XD’s, which gave him a reason to visit.
  • I should probably mention that this was before Puffy met Foolish, so she didn’t have a specific god that she prayed to for safe voyages. This is why she went to XD’s church.
  • This caught XD’s attention, since his church in Old Waters rarely received newcomers.
  • So he paid extra attention to her prayer, as well as any other wishes she might’ve had.
  • As it turned out, Puffy wanted to be a mother. She’d always been good with kids, so she wanted to have one or two of her own.
  • XD appeared as a voice in Puffy’s head and told her that, with her consent, he could give her the child she wished for if she offered him something in return.
  • She promised to sacrifice some of the treasure she had acquired from her piracy to him, so he granted her wish.

I need to specify that no adult fun time happened during this exchange. XD used his magic to fuse some of his genetic material and some of Puffy’s into two foetuses inside her womb. Completely devoid of any of that.

  • Anyway, Puffy returned to Old Waters a few months later so she could give birth to Dream and GD. (Dream was the older twin, just to clarify.)
  • As they were all so close in age, Dream, George and Sapnap quickly became close friends. Quackity started hanging out with them when he was a little older, but wasn’t as close with Dream as the other two were. GD also hung out with them on occasion, but she had her own group of friends.
  • Their childhood and teenage years were mostly passive, with only two important events happening.
  • The first was Puffy meeting Foolish, and the second was Quackity meeting his biological family.
  • Puffy met Foolish when Dream and GD were about six. He had been travelling across the Badlands in search of potential followers when he met her at a port her ship was docked at.
  • (Side note: Puffy would sometimes leave on voyages to the main continent of the Badlands. Dream and GD understood, and would either stay at Sam’s or Bad and Skeppy’s.)
  • The two started talking, and at his request, Puffy started telling Foolish some of her adventures at sea.
  • At some point, they go to a local pub, where it is revealed that Foolish is a lightweight and drunkenly admits that he never had a parental figure in his life.
  • He also mentions his godhood to her, which causes an idea to form in Puffy’s mind.
  • Once Foolish has sobered up, she offers him a deal.
  • She’ll act as his parent and sacrifice a cut of her loot to him every time she voyages, effectively becoming one of his followers. In return, he’ll ensure safe travels and look after her children while she’s gone.
  • Foolish accepts, and after instructing some of his priests to keep things running back home while he’s gone, he moves to Old Waters.
  • When in public or around Dream and GD, he addresses Puffy as Papa Puffy. This is a misunderstanding on his part. The only parent-child relationship he had ever closely examined before this was Eret and Herobrine’s. Eret had told him that when he was younger, he called Herobrine “Papa”, so Foolish assumed that was what you called parents with young children.
  • He is eventually corrected on his mistake, but by that point, the name’s started to stick, and Puffy doesn’t mind.
  • Quackity’s biological family were found when he was eight and the others were nine.
  • After some research, Sam discovered that Quackity’s parents were dead, but he still had living relatives in the form of his grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin, Mexican Dream.
  • They sometimes visited Old Waters to check up on Quackity, which is how GD and Mexican Dream meet, but Sam is allowed to keep custody.
  • Other than these two events, Old Waters remains peaceful until Dream, George and Sapnap turn eighteen.
  • GD has already begun her training to become a priest under XD, so she’s attending a school in the Badlands. Quackity’s too young to leave home yet.
  • George gets a letter from who claims to be his biological father. He explains that he comes from the Lore family, a high-class family of historians from Kinoko Kingdom in Somnium.
  • They’re so high class, in fact, that George’s father was able to marry the King of Kinoko Kingdom’s sister.
  • The king has no children of his own, and he only has a few more years left to live, so George could be made his heir.
  • Naturally, this sparks George’s interest, so he decides to investigate. Dream and Sapnap go with him.
  • Eventually, Bad, Skeppy, Sam, Quackity, Puffy, GD and Foolish all leave the island to go to Somnium.
  • But that’s a story we all know too well.

Notes:

So, yeah! Once again, please let me know what you think or if Old Waters is an actual location on the SMP. As always, I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 8: The Old Gods

Summary:

This chapter is focused on the first generation of gods- Slimecicle, Condificition, GrizzlyPlays and Bizly. As an extra, I’m also including my headcanon for Schlatt’s backstory in this chapter! Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • Okay, so I feel like I should preface this by telling you that I haven’t actually watched the newest SCU video (the 100 days video) yet, so my knowledge of the SCU is solely focused on Hardest Difficulty and Natural Disaster.
  • This means that I might have to edit this chapter once I’ve seen it. But until then, everything will remain the same.
  • Now, on to the first generation!
  • The Personification of the Void created Charlie, Grizzly, Condi and Bizly not long after creating the rest of the world. In a sense, they were the finishing touch to the Void’s masterpiece.
  • (As a side note, The Personification of the Void now has a name - Mojang! I thought it was fitting for a god that was essentially the creator of the world a Minecraft roleplay is set in.)
  • They quickly established a home base: a castle in the sky of the Overworld they called Molympus.
  • Despite being incredibly powerful, the concept of gods was a fairly new one, so they weren’t worshipped all that much by mobs and players.
  • This wasn’t really a problem though, as they were content to traverse between the three dimensions, as well as the afterlife, as they saw fit.
  • In particular, Slimecicle would don a more humanoid form and walk amongst towns and cities, interacting with citizens as if he were one of them.
  • He did this so much that he became close friends with a ramlin named Schlatt Underscore, even telling him that he was a god.
  • However, as time went by, Schlatt started to age, and Slimecicle became increasingly aware of his friend’s mortality. Panicked, he gifted some of his godly essence to Schlatt in order to keep him alive.
  • Now, it must be stated that only Mojang has the ability to turn someone into a god. The rest of the gods are able to make players and mobs immortal, but giving them godly essence is a very bad idea.
  • But how would Slimecicle know? As far as he was aware, that was how gods were made. After all, he and the others were made from Mojang’s godly essence.
  • Schlatt was unable to control his newfound power, and it drove him mad. Soon, natural disasters were occurring all across the world, all controlled by a man many saw as a monster, or worse, a tyrannical god.
  • Desperate to fix his wrongs, Slimecicle once more donned the mortal disguise of ‘Charlie’, this time joined by Grizzly and Condi. Bizly did not join them, instead opting to stay behind and hide in Molympus.
  • As they traversed the world, the three gods were shocked to find that some groups had begun to worship Schlatt in hopes of appeasing his madness. It seemed to be working, as the temples they built for him were mostly spared from his destruction.
  • However, most had decided to hide underground, building strongholds and ancient cities to protect themselves. All that remained on the Overworld’s surface were fanatical worshippers and small pockets of villages that were unable to hide underground.
  • Eventually, the three gods were able to strip Schlatt of his power. As punishment, he was sent to the deepest depths of Inferno, not to be tortured, but to reflect on his actions and prevent anyone hurt by what he had done from seeking vengeance.
  • Bizly was also punished for staying behind and not helping the others, but his punishment was less severe: he lost his throne in Molympus and was forced to sit on a wooden stool instead.
  • That should’ve been the end of it, but Schlatt’s destruction had left strange effects on the world. Passive animals were now hostile, lava didn’t burn, and strong tools broke easily. Curious, all four gods descended from Molympus to see if they could fix the issues.
  • We all know what happened next. What’s important is what happened afterwards.
  • You see, Grizzly was not truly dead, but not truly alive either. As such, he became the god of Inferno. Condi took control of his previous domains, and Mojang created the second generation of gods. Molympus was moved to the Aether, and Charlie decided to leave the others to it. He took another, more simple form, and returned to the Overworld, this time as a slime.
  • Centuries and millennia passed, and the people of the three dimensions forgot about the Ram King, or the Council. However, the few generations of gods that followed did not forget, nor did they learn to not fear. The use of poppies in gardening or building was feared, the Council were hardly spoken of, and only Kristin really interacted with Grizzly, other than Bizly and Condi.
  • Nobody wanted to accidentally anger or upset the gods that were able to kill other gods. Only Mojang should be able to do that- it simply wasn’t natural.
  • So, the years passed, and Schlatt remained in his little corner of Inferno, until he was eventually let out by Grizzly.
  • The deal was simple: Schlatt would be allowed a second chance at life, and when he died, he would be able to create his own section of the afterlife.
  • To prove he could be responsible, he was gifted a child that was all his own, a little Tubbo Underscore.
  • But of course, we all know how that turned out.
  • Once he had returned to the afterlife, Schlatt discovered that he could still visit the Overworld as a ‘ghost’, and that his Limbo could exist in both worlds. So, he created a gym that also served as a midway point for souls, and the rest is history.
  • A while later, Charlie had been in hibernation for long enough that the slime he had turned into had evolved into a humanoid form. Shortly after this, he met Quackity, and, well, you know what happens next.

Notes:

So, yeah! Sorry for not updating in a while, some personal stuff came up, and I won’t bore you with the details. I’m going to try to update more, so thank you if you’ve stuck with this work so far! Please feel free to comment with your opinion, and as always, I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 9: The Kingdoms of Somnium

Summary:

This chapter is focused on the kingdoms and countries located in the continent of Somnium, and what life is like there. Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

  • When discussing countries and the Dream SMP, the first one that comes to mind is L’manburg.
  • However, L’manburg has been destroyed for some time, so let’s instead look at the kingdom it declared independence from: Greater Somnium.
  • When tackling Greater Somnium, two immediate questions come to mind: How was Dream able to declare Eret as king, and how does the establishment of Church Prime work?
  • For the first question, the answer is simple. I see the kingship of Greater Somnium as a mix between a monarchy and a democracy, in which a king is elected by the people, but they do not serve a set term. Instead, they remain on the throne until they step down, die, or in some cases, are deposed. When this happens, the previous king’s council will rule temporarily whilst another election is held.
  • Any king who stepped down is allowed to become a candidate in subsequent elections, providing that at least one other king has ruled since they stepped down. This is why Eret was able to take back the throne after George’s brief rule.
  • As for how she got the throne in the first place, I imagine Dream was rather popular amongst the people of Greater Somnium during the L’manburg War of Independence, due to his position as the unofficial leader of Greater Somnium’s military. Once Eret betrayed L’manburg, Dream personally endorsed them as a candidate for king, causing many to vote for him when the time came.
  • Now for the second question. I believe that Tommy and Dream oversaw and assisted in the construction of a new church of Prime. Prime saw that the children of two gods she knew very well were building a place of worship for her, and blessed the church, making it the beacon of worship it is in present day. (This is also the reason why the water from the fountain can cut off connections with The Egg.)
  • But I’ve rambled long enough. Now,  onto life in Greater Somnium.
  • As a country, it is comprised of many cities and towns. The community house and Eret’s castle are located in the capital city, but other key locations, such as the Eggpire’s base and Pandora’s Vault are located in other cities throughout the kingdom.
  • The main religion of Greater Somnium is the worship of Prime, and due to the kingdom mainly being located in a plains biome, the most common exports are dyes and wood, as well as stone and iron to a lesser extent.
  • The kingdom has fairly good relations with its surrounding nations, although its relationship with Snowchester is a little shaky due to Snowchester’s high population of L’manburg refugees, who immigrated there after Doomsday.
  • Speaking of Snowchester, let’s go there next.
  • Compared to nearby nations, Snowchester is a fairly new country. It is a democracy and is governed by a president, with an election happening every eight years. Like Greater Somnium, there is no set amount of terms that a president is allowed to serve.
  • Snowchester is a small country due to the harsher climate that its residents are faced with. Its main worship is Prime, and its main exports are iron and redstone. It also has an expert redstone defence program, but that is a project kept under governmental wraps.
  • Out of all of its neighbours, Snowchester has the most positive relationship with the country of Summerhome.
  • Summerhome is unique in its leadership as it is ruled over by a deity. (I believe the correct term for this is a theocracy? Feel free to correct me in the comments if I’m wrong.)
  • Though not unheard of, it is considered very rare for a god to take charge of a kingdom in the way that Foolish does. A few third and fourth generation gods have been known to do so, but the most well known example is En’s rule of The End. However, gods are more prone to having a country worship them rather than ruling it themselves.
  • (To his credit, Foolish does leave the job of managing the inner workings of Summerhome to the leaders of his cult, but still holds an authoritative role.)
  • Summerhome is a rather large nation, due to Foolish’s extensive building projects (which I believe to not only be made by Foolish but by the inhabitants of Summerhome as well). Despite its hot and dry climate, the people have access to large amounts of water due to Foolish’s sub-status as an Ocean God.
  • Obviously, its main worship is Foolish, but other gods, such as Kristin, XD and the Ocean Overlord are also worshipped in a smaller capacity. As for exports, it mainly deals in fish, as well as gold to a lesser extent.
  • In more recent times, Summerhome has developed an extremely positive relationship with Greater Somnium. This is due to Eret’s status as king.
  • Finally, we come to Kinoko Kingdom.
  • Kinoko’s kingship, unlike Greater Somnium, is hereditary, passed down through the family line. George’s uncle was the previous king, making him the current ruler.
  • Las Nevadas is considered a city under the control of Kinoko. This would be awkward if the fiancées were still not on speaking terms, but thankfully they have made up by this point.
  • Historically, Kinoko has mainly worshipped Prime, as is the case with many kingdoms in Somnium. However, its main worship is slowly shifting to XD, due to George’s connections to him.
  • Kinoko practiced isolation for a long time, only somewhat trading with nearby kingdoms. However, it has begun to trade with its neighbours more frequently, even exporting overseas via Las Nevadas’ port. Its main exports are plant-based, such as fruit, herbs, and of course, mushrooms.
  • As for its neighbours, good relations are mostly maintained, even if they are fairly new. However, it does face some animosity from Snowchester, due to similar reasons as Greater Somnium.

Notes:

So, yeah! Once again, super sorry for not updating for so long! If you’re still reading this fic after this long, I can’t express how much it means to me that you’ve stuck with this book of my dumb headcanons for this long. Unfortunately, I’m still dealing with some personal issues, so I can’t promise the next chapter will be soon, but I will try to update whenever I can. If you want to, please leave a comment telling me what you think, I reply to all of them and they make my day. Sorry for going on for so long, and as always, I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 11: An Explanation And A Tribute

Summary:

An explanation on where I’ve been, and a tribute to Technoblade.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Hey, it’s been a while.

So a few things have happened in the past 6 months.

The most obvious of which being the passing of Technoblade.

Techno was a content creator that I incredibly enjoyed. I liked his humour, the stories he told, the absolute glorious madness that was the potato war, and a million other things that I won’t list because we’ll be here all day. It breaks my heart to know that he’s gone, and I hope that wherever he is now, he’s found peace.

I haven’t been as active in this fandom lately. While I’ve been doing my best to respond to every comment on my works, life has continued to pull me away from actually writing anything for you guys.

That being said, I’m going to try my best.

The Dream SMP, as well as other SMPs has been an amazing experience for me. Minecraft was my first and longest hyperfixation and I especially love using it as a medium to tell stories. The fact that other people were doing the same thing, recording it and showing it to millions of people is such a comforting thing to me as it reminds me that I’m not alone.

This isn’t a goodbye, no matter how much it might sound like one.

I can’t promise my updates will be frequent. I can’t promise they’ll be long. But this fandom has given me so much and I want to give something back. So I’m going to carry on writing, and I’m going to carry on updating.

If you’ve continued to read this, if you’ve only discovered it recently, or if you’re reading it in the future, thank you all so much for sticking around.

I have no clue where my creative mind will take me next with this series, but I can’t wait to find out.

I’ll see you all when the next chapter comes out.

-Star

Notes:

So, yeah.
