Chapter Text
When did the halls get this fucking freezing?
Draco clutched his arms to his chest, deep shivers crawling over his body. He closed his eyes, curling into himself for some sort of warmth. It was about midnight in Hogwarts, though being in Eighth year it didn’t really matter that the blonde was out of bed. He sat at one of the large windows in the middle of a random corridor. He bit back another curse as another shiver ran through his body. No matter how many layers he put on, he never seemed to not be cold. He could guess a couple reasons why he found himself in such a sorry state, but it hurt to think about it.
He looked up at the sound of footsteps. Draco closed his eyes and folded further into himself, not caring at this point. He stiffened at the lack of movement this person had. They had stopped in front of him. Malfoy slowly opened his eyes and raised his gaze. He grimaced. Oh great, famous Potter has come to mock me.
Harry kept an emotionless gaze before letting out a breath. “Malfoy.”
”Potter.”
He took a second before moving over slightly. Harry sunk to the floor next to the blonde, the space between big enough to place about two very large cats.
Draco frowned as he continued to shiver. “What do you want Potter?” His voice was coated in hostility, “Come to laugh at me?”
“No. Couldn’t sleep.” He ran his tanned fingers through his messy brown hair. “Couldn’t sleep either?”
He pursed his lips before nodding ever so slightly.
Harry looked over at the blonde’s face. Dark circles hung by his eyes, his icy grey eyes. His hair fell in his face, barely hanging onto the messily done bun the other had attempted. His nose was red with the cold he was experiencing.
Draco caught his eye only to roll his own. “Done staring Potter?”
”Sorry,” It was a quick mumble of an apology. He looked at his hands. He was quite warm, having his sweater over his white button down shirt. He took another glance at Malfoy before slipping off his sweater.
He let out a breath, scoffing at Harry’s action. “Aren’t you freezing?”
”No, I’m actually quite warm.”
”Lucky little you, Potter.” He squeezed his eyes shut as he tightened his grip on his emerald green robes.
Harry fell silent before going back to his blank staring at the ground. He brought his knees to his chest and rested his head on them. Why was he sitting next to him? They never got along, hell Malfoy was still getting all pissed at him. Why did he even walk over in the first place? Potter moved to hold his head in his hands.
Malfoy looked at him before speaking a bit more gentle. “Are..what keeps you up Potter?”
He met his gaze before laughing weakly. “It used to be the Dursley’s..Now it’s practically everything. It’s all gone a bit to shit.” He smiled to himself though it was more as if he was making fun of his own situation. “What about you?”
”Everything..” He swallowed, his throat growing dry. “I suppose, everything has gone a bit to shit.”
Harry let out a sigh. “Seems we’re in the same boat.”
“Oh please. Like you have anything to worry about.” Draco clicked his tongue. “Famous Potter, the boy who killed..him..It’s not like you’re going to trial.”
”You’re right.”
“I know I am-“
”But that doesn’t mean I don’t have problems Malfoy.” His voice held his exhaustion. He move this head back down as he held onto his shaky leg.
Malfoy paused. He took a short breath before speaking slowly, now careful with his words. “I suppose my statement wasn’t fair..I apologize Potter.” He chewed on his lip. “It’s terribly cold, and it has seems to be blinding my judgement.”
Harry simply shrugged. “I don’t expect anything but hostility from you Malfoy. It’s fine.”
“I suppose.” He let out a breath over his hands. Another silence fell between the two. Malfoy continued to shiver before Harry finally said something.
“Malfoy, do you need a fire? I lit one in the common room.”
”If it’s your fire then I’d be poisoned by the flames.”
”I’m not going to poison you, Merlin sake..” He stood up and grabbed him by the sleeve. “Come on, you’re shivering.”
“Well maybe I’m comfortable!” He retorted, stopping in his tracks only to be dragged along by the other.
”Shut up Malfoy.”
______________
Harry sat the other down by the fire before sitting on the sofa. He sighed softly and loosened his collar. Draco slowly settled down and moved closer to the warmth, despite his body still shivering.
“Malfoy.”
”What is it now Potter?”
“Do you want a blanket?”
“If it’s not yours.” He huffed. “I don’t need the great Potter’s help.” He crossed his arms over his chest.
”Fine. Whatever you say Malfoy.” Potter let out a sigh and closed his eyes.
Draco glanced over at him once the feeling of being looked at disappeared. He chewed on his lower lip. It wasn’t that he hated him, quite the opposite. It was Harry this, and Harry that running through his mind since the first year. That thick brown hair that fell over everywhere drove him simply mad. And those eyes, Merlin knows how long he could stare at those emerald eyes. Draco shook his head and went to look back at the fire. He couldn’t talk to him, not after what he had done. It was his fault. Malfoy looked at his arm, his glare sharpening. “It’s my fault.”
Harry opened his eyes and looked over. Draco was staring hatefully at his arm. He knew what he was staring at. That dark mark that branded his mistakes. Harry closed his eyes again and turned his back towards the other. He had no place to say anything. It was his fault that Malfoy had to get it anyways.
Draco sat by the fire until the sun started rising. He stood up and discarded the blanket he took on the sofa. He glanced at a sleeping Harry. “Thanks,” He mumbled softly, not wanting anyone to hear. With a couple of quick steps the common room’s door clicked shut. Harry opened his eyes and smiled gently. “You’re welcome Malfoy.”
______________
Potions came around in the next day. Of course, it was just filler for the lessons they were able to have in seventh year. Harry walked between Ron and Hermione. Ron nudged the boy next to him, “Mate, you look a bit tired. Did you not get sleep last night?”
”No, I did.”
“Did you sleep on the couch or something? You weren’t in bed when I was up.”
Harry shrugged. “I just went for a small walk before.”
Hermione frowned. “Are you not getting enough sleep Harry? You do realize we have two tests this week, right?”
Ron and Harry groaned collectively. “Bug off Hermione. We’re trying to enjoy our morning.”
She laughed, “Yes, yes. But we’re studying before last hour.”
”Fine.”
Harry sat at the last desk in the classroom with Ron and Hermione in front of him. His eyes searched the room of students, surprised at the lack of white-blonde hair. As if summoned by Harry’s thoughts, Draco walked into the class briskly. He slipped into the empty seat next to the Gryffindor wanting to avoid being caught late. Harry placed his head in his hand and looked at the other, a smirk playing on his face. “Running late Malfoy?”
”Shut your mouth Potter.”
He chuckled before turning his attention back to the teacher who was putting students in pairs. “Pst, Hermione. What are we making?”
”Amortentia. Why? Are you not-“ She turned around as she spoke. Her question was cut off as she made eye contact with Malfoy. Hermione raised an eyebrow though didn’t say anything, and turned back around.
Partners were given and of course, Draco and Harry were partnered up. “Alright Malfoy. Hope you can get me a good grade.”
“My potions never fail. If you mess it up I’ll hex you.”
The Gryffindor went to grab his cauldron as Malfoy grabbed the ingredients. He flipped to the page in Harry’s book as he rolled his sleeves to his elbows. The other placed the cauldron down and looked over at the blonde. His button down shirt was as black as midnight. His Slytherin tie was loose and messily tied. And Merlin, those forearms. Harry swallowed as Draco looked up. The boy shifted his weight and lowered his sleeve over the mark on his arm. He cleared his throat, “Well Potter, we best start before you mess up the timing.”
”Right, tell me what to do.”
”Well you can start by crushing those. I’ll start it.” He pulled his hair out of his face before stirring the liquid.
Harry followed the instructions of the book and the occasional input of Draco. He leaned over to read the next portion before bumping shoulders with Malfoy. The blonde sputtered out a quick ‘watch it Potter’ though the rose creeping on his cheeks weren’t missable. Harry rolled his eyes and went back to work.
______________
Malfoy wrinkled his nose as the potion was finished. Harry hummed as he leaned closer to smell the potion. Hermione turned and smiled, “What does yours smell like Harry?”
”Sirius..and a bit like Mom.” He sighed before speaking again. “Though I can’t place where the redwood and sea foam is coming from.”
Draco noticeably reacted by shifting his weight and looking away. Hermione raised her eyebrow for the second time before letting his reaction drop. “You said Sirius?”
”Yeah..” He softened his gaze and held his slightly shaking hands. He looked at Malfoy. “What does it smell like to you?”
”Nothing.” He had pulled his sleeves down and his robes on, his body slightly shivering.
“Oh come now, there must be something you like! We have to write an essay on this, you gotta give me something Malfoy.”
He paused before sighing in defeat. “Fine, I suppose..” He leaned a bit closer in and took an inhale. “My mother’s perfume..And a musty cupboard, maybe a bit of cinnamon.”
Harry hummed in recognition. He looked at the teacher who was collecting grades. “Hey Ron. Want some?”
“Hm? Yeah snag some for the party.”
“Are you just trying to cause mayhem?!” Hermione sighed and shook her head in disappointment.
Harry took a vile and filled it with the potion. Draco rolled his eyes. He smiled, “Gonna tattle on me Malfoy?”
”I suppose I owe you for not snitching on me. But next time I won’t be so nice.”
”Thanks Malfoy.” He chuckled as he slipped the vile in the pocket of his robes.
______________
The three returned to the dorms with an exhausted sigh. Harry plopped himself on the sofa and closed his eyes. “Man..these teachers sure have gone back to normal.”
“I know right? Like for merlin’s sake, they could at least lighten the homework load.”
The two were interrupted by Malfoy and Pansy walking into the room. A few Gryffindors rolled their eyes or stared. Pansy crossed her arms as she spoke defensively, “We just want to sleep.”
Draco stayed quiet, holding his head low. He gripped onto his arm and walked swiftly to his room. Harry watched him with a hint of sympathy in his expression. If only if he had killed Voldemort sooner..Every Slytherin, especially Malfoy, wouldn’t have to go through this. Potter excused himself and walked to his own room.
It’s my fault they’re suffering..
Chapter 2: Famous Mr Potter
Chapter Text
It’s so warm in here, wonder if they cranked the heat.
Harry sighed as he walked up to the astronomy tower. He climbed the stairs with a slight briskness, shoving his hands in his pockets. It was pass time for eighth years, and Hermione and Ron we off studying for the class he had already aced -defense against the dark arts. Harry didn’t feel like listening to Hermione correct Ron on his every wrongdoing and decided to walk around to cool himself off. He pushed open the hatch to the roof and climbed onto the scaffolding. Harry let out a sigh of relief as a breezy of air ran its fingers through his body heat. A shuffling caught Harry off guard. He whipped his head around to see a Slytherin trying to hide. He let out a sigh. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
The student scoffed and brought his knees to his chest.
“Draco?” He blinked, recognizing the scoff.
”Carry on. Im minding my business, you mind yours.”
“Right, sorry.”
He heaved a sigh before moving over. “Sit here. It’s flatter than the rest of the panels. You wouldn’t want to fall off.”
Harry nodded and quickly moved over. The green-tinted scaffolding was slick with yesterdays relentless rain. His foot slipped and gravity tugged him down towards the ground. Harry let out a yelp as he tried to force his body up. Draco quickly reached out and grabbed his hand, his robes slipping from his shoulders. “Harry, Merlin sake!” He tugged him steadily up, using his other hand to snake it around his waist to firmly pull him.
The brunette laughed breathlessly as he clutched onto his shoulder. “Nice reflexes.”
Draco let out a sigh and loosened his grip on his waist. “You’re an idiot, the roof is clearly slippery and here you are running around.” He frowned though kept a grip on his hand until Harry had safely sat down next to him. “I assume you’re alright?”
Harry smiled, “Thanks to you. I owe you one Malfoy.”
He cleared his throat, “You can repay me later. What brings you out here?”
”I don’t really need to study, besides it’s a good view up here.” He leaned back, his hands holding him up.
Draco looked at him before looking out to the scenery. His hand held his chin, his knees propping up his arm. He lightened his expression slightly, “It is quite nice.” He shivered when another breeze breathed down on the two.
“Malfoy, how are you cold?”
”How are you not?” He replied shortly before looking back at the other.
Harry huffed out a breath. “Don’t answer my question with a question.”
He snorted before playfully rolling his eyes, “I do apologize.”
______________
A loud bang came from the sky, followed by giant sparks of colors. Both Harry and Draco covered their heads as it sounded though Harry peeked at the sky. A smile broke on his face at the sparkly sight. He sat up fully and nudged him, “Dra- Malfoy.”
The blonde slowly lowered his hands and looked at the other. “What?”
He smiled and gestured forward with his head. “Look. Have you ever seen Fred and George’s fireworks?”
“No, not really.” He glanced over as Harry casted a silencer spell over them both. Draco looked back at him with a confused glance.
Harry smiled innocently and looked back at the sky, slipping his wand back in his pant’s pocket. Draco let out a sigh as he kept his gaze on the fireworks lighting up the sky. His body relaxed against Harry’s arm, though not one of the two took notice of it. Harry removed the charm as the sounds died down, people keeping up the show with their wands.
The two stayed silent before shouting of teachers told the kids to go to bed following with laughter and cheers. Harry glanced at the other who had retreated back to his now normal position of crossing his arms over his chest. His hair was loose and falling in his face. Harry brushed a strand back from his neck as he spoke, breaking the silence, “When did you grow out your hair?”
Draco brought his hand up and covered his neck, shrugging. “Just didn’t have time to cut it. Is it bad?”
”No, quite the opposite.” He looked towards the rising moon before the other could meet his gaze.
He chuckled, pulling his hair up away from his neck. “Sure, alright.”
“Wait. You missed a strand.” Harry moved back over and pushed his hair out of his face.
A blush rose to his face and he let his hands drop. He cleared his throat, thankful towards the dark sky for hiding his flustered state.
He laughed, “I think you’ve missed a couple more strands Malfoy.”
”Shut up Potter. Don’t touch my hair.” He grumbled.
______________
The moon had poked its head out from the clouds, giving the two light enough to keep the night from complete darkness. The blonde leaned back, bumping Harry’s shoulder on the way down. His head rested against the incline of scaffolding, the slick of rainwater glowing in the moonlight.
“Malfoy.”
His reply came in a breathy tone. “Yes?”
”Nothing, nevermind.” He swallowed harshly and looked back at the scenery.
“Oh come now Potter, let’s us our words.” He spoke in a teasing manner before sitting up.“What were you going to say?” He tilted his head to the side with a smirk playing on his lips.
Harry rolled his eyes and poked his chest with his wand, moving him back. “I said nevermind Draco.”
He raised an eyebrow before shrugging. “Be that way. Such a bore.” He crossed his leg over the other as he leaned back, keeping his gaze out to the open air.
“When does your quidditch season start?”
“I wouldn’t know.”
”Really? I’d thought you’d be practicing.”
Draco shrugged his shoulders, a frown creeping on his face. “I’m not playing this year.”
”What? Why? You’ve always kept up with it?” He looked back at him with confusion spread across his face.
He met his gaze as he replied coldly. “Potter, do you really think I can just do things as I normally would?”
He hesitated before running his fingers through his messy hair, looking away. “I suppose,” His voice trailed off.
Draco shifted awkwardly, a bit unsettled by the other’s sudden guilty tone. “Don’t take it to heart. You were just being ignorant, it’s nothing new.” He cleared his throat. “Let’s move on.”
“Well, we have that paper coming up?”
”Ah, right.” He shifted against the cooling scaffolding. “It should be written before this weekend.”
He nodded. “Does tomorrow work for you then?”
”Yes, thought I’d prefer we don’t meet in the common room.”
Harry’s thoughts wondered off to the glaring faces of the other houses. He gave an attempt at a smile, “Right. How about the courtyard? It’s less crowded right now.”
He let a smile slip on his face for a split-second before clearing his throat. “That will be fine enough.”
”Good, we’ll meet there then.”
______________
Harry took Draco’s hand as he helped the shivering boy down the ladder he had set up to get to the roof. The Slytherin shook as he brought his hands across his chest. “Are you that cold?”
”Yes.” He frowned as he shivered. “It’s easier to ignore when you’re bothering me. It’s foolish how warm you are.”
He pulled his robs back over his shoulders, dusting off the slight dampness from the scaffolding. “Believe me, if I could give you some of my heat I would. It’s suffocating.”
”I could tell.” He wouldn’t outwardly admit it, but he was sort of grateful for the sight of Harry’s white button-down with his sleeves rolled up every day.
”There should be a fire in the com-“ He paused before changing his thoughts, “In the Great Hall.”
Draco took notice of this change and spoke up. “We can go to the common room..They should be asleep anyways.” He looked away. “I don’t need pity Potter.”
”Right, right.” He opened the door to the common room and looked around. The empty room sat warm with the fire lighting it up. Draco trailed in behind him, pulling his sleeves down just in case. He stiffened as Harry tossed a blanket over his shoulders and head. The brunette smiled gently to himself as he fixed the red blanket over him. “There.”
Draco lightened his expression as he glanced up at the edge of the blanket. He nodded as his thanks and moved to the couch. He sat down before hugging a pillow up to his chest.
Harry sat across from him on the other side of the lush cushions. He kept the fire despite him already sweating. Being as hot as he was normally and then added with a blazing fire made him uncomfortably hot.
Draco let out a content sigh and curled up closer to the fire, subsequently ending up closer to Harry. His back brushed against the other, giving a bit of relief to the unbearable heat. “You are cold..” Harry spoke lightly and leaned closer. He hummed quietly as he cooled off.
He glanced over before leaned up against him. ‘Nothing’s wrong with staying here for a bit..He’s warm anyways.’ Draco let out a breath as he settled in the other’s body. Harry rested his chin on his shoulder as he watched the flames dance across the logs. “We’re having a Halloween party this weekend..”
”I’m aware.”
”Are you willing to go?”
He paused before simply shrugging. “What’s the point?”
He frowned slightly before speaking softly. “I’d like you to go. It’s not the same without our snarky Malfoy.”
A chuckle escaped his lips. “Oh? Missing me?” He rolled his eyes before speaking more quieter. “No one wants me there Harry, let’s just be honest.”
He sighed. “Still.” He closed his eyes as he spoke again. “Could you go, it doesn’t have to be the entire time. Just a Little while.”
”Are you planning something Potter?” He raised an eyebrow as the other smiled sleepily.
“Please go. For me?”
Draco rolled his eyes and looked back at his hands. He retreated back into the blankets, “Fine.”
The other smiled and poked his side. “Good.”
He squeaked before covering his mouth.
”Pardon?”
”You heard nothing.”
Harry laughed, the first time it was genuine for a while. “Alright, alright. I won’t tell a soul.” He couldn’t help but think the other’s flustered state was rather cute.
Chapter Text
Its not as if I mind…Oh Merlin, you’re taking this the wrong way.
Draco stretched as the sun rose. He bumped his head on Harry’s chin who had fell asleep. He rolled his eyes, “Using me as a pillow now?” He slipped from the blanket cocoon he had retreated in the past night and escaped the room before anyone could catch him.
He ran his fingers through his hair as he pulled it from his neck while walking to the Great Hall for breakfast. He sat next to Pansy who also seemed to have retreated from the common room to their table. She gave a wave. “Morning.”
Draco nodded for his greeting. He sat down next to her, grasping a slice of bread to eat. “Are you joining in this weekend?”
”Why not? We deserve some holiday fun.” She spoke as she popped another slice of fresh fruit in her mouth.
He sighed. “I’ll tag along then.”
”Yeah?” She poked his shoulder with a teasing smile. “You sure it’s not because of someone~”
”Shut your mouth.” He retorted, pointing his butter knife at her. “I am only going because I feel like it.”
”Of course, of course.” She chuckled and moved the knife away.
He clicked his tongue and returned to spreading the melting butter over his bread, the slice warm in his bitter hands.
Pansy frowned as she looked over. “You never stop shivering do you?”
“Thanks captain obvious, like I couldn’t notice that myself.”
“Are you certain you don’t want those heating charms?”
Draco stood up as Harry walked in the hall. “I’m fine without them. I have my own means of heating up.”
“Oi, Malfoy.”
“Yes Potter?” He looked at the other, pausing at the doors to leave.
”We’re still meeting today, right?”
He simply rolled his eyes, pushing the doors open to leave.
“Oh come now, you could’ve at least said a yes,” Harry called after him with a small smile creeping on his face.
______________
Draco took his books under his arm before making his way to the courtyard. He stepped in the warm October sun only to shiver. He found Harry harassing a snitch, catching and throwing it around. He walked up to him, his footsteps brisk and soundless. Harry looked up only to miss the snitch. Draco caught the golden mystery before throwing it back at Harry. “I do hope you are going to focus on the project.”
”Course, I was only waiting.” Harry toss it back at him.
Draco gave a smirk and sat on the ground next to him.
Harry sat next to him, both of their backs against a pillar. “So, you said something about the potion smelling of cinnamon?”
”Yes.”
The boy made a slight humming noise. “Do you like the taste of cinnamon then?”
”The taste is fine enough.” He simply shrugged. “Like I said, I don’t have any strong feelings for anything on the positive side of things.”
”Wow, start singing My Chemical Romance why don’t you.”
Harry only got an annoyed look in return. “The oldest joke in the books? Really Potter?”
”I think it’s funny,” He defended himself.
”That’s because you’re an idiot.”
”Oh shove off, Malfoy.”
______________
Harry yawned as the cover of his textbook shut. His bones cracked along with his stretch.
Draco shuddered, “What on earth are you doing to make your bones sound like that?”
”What? You never cracked your fingers before?” He raised an eyebrow.
”No? Bones aren’t supposed to break, Potter.”
“Here. You just go like this-“ Harry took his wrist and gently pressed his thumb against one of his fingers. The protests of the blond fell silent as he watched the other “break” his fingers. Harry smiled and pressed again to crack the other joint on his index finger. Draco shuddered slightly at the feeling of his cold skin against the other’s warmth. His palm brushed against his one fingers, making a strange tingling feeling.
“See? Totally fine.”
Draco pulled his hand back and raised it to get a full view. No bruising, nothing was painful… strange. “Why do you do this?”
Harry shrugged, placing his hands in his pockets; his textbook tucked underneath his shoulder. “Just a habit. Maybe it’s stress, maybe it’s a reflex.”
He flexed his fingers, the ever lasting scowl on his face softening a tad. He wouldn’t admit, but his hand was now feeling colder than it was before. “Weird.”
______________
Draco frowned at his fingers. His place of hiding this night was the library. A small lantern kept him from the darkness of the room he desired to avoid. The door creaked open. Of course it was Harry. At this point Draco was sure he was following him for shits and giggles. “Am I never able to escape from you?”
”Seems I’m not able to escape from you.” He looked at the books around him and picked one up. “Love potions?” He raised an eyebrow.
”I simply sat down behind a stack, Potter. I am not one to be foolish and read that.”
”Foolish in what sense?” Harry asked as his slender fingers opened the book and flipped through the old pages.
Draco rolled his eyes, “Foolish as in, those types of potions are a waste of time.”
”You think love is a waste of time?”
”In a sense, yes.” He met his gaze, “Something wrong with that?”
Harry frowned slightly. “And what if you do fall? What is your brilliant scheme, Malfoy?”
He scoffed. Getting to his feet, he closed the book in Harry’s hands. His icy palms once again touching warm ones. He smirked, “Simple, I won’t fall.”

Chapter 4: The Habit of A Holiday
Chapter Text
No I don’t want to kiss him, I just..thought about it..once..twice
Harry shuddered against the floor of the common room. It was chilly at first. Ron stretched, “Geez, what’s taking Luna so long?”
“You got the potion, Harry?”
He held up the vile, “Of course.”
”Oh, Draco and Pansy are walking over here.”
”What?”
Draco stiffened for a moment. Pansy swallowed. “Are we seriously not allowed?”
Ron opened his mouth to agree but Hermione spoke first. “You can join.”
”What?”
Arguing started. It was loud. Draco seemed to back up to run away.
Harry sighed, “Can we forget about their actions for a bloody minute?”
Silence.
“Mate?” Ron looked confused, startled.
”It doesn’t matter anymore. Let’s just party, it’s fucking Halloween.”
Draco sat next to him. The group was even more shocked. He cleared his throat, “To show my peace, I shall sit next to Potter.”
”And I will let Malfoy sit next to me.”
Pansy rolled her eyes and sat next to Hermione.
Harry placed the vile down. “Alright, looser of this round has to drink it.”
Draco scoffed. “That is ridiculous.”
”Scared to loose Malfoy?”
”You bloody- Fine.”
And the round of Bullshit started.Harry placed two cards. “Two ones.”
”That’s bullshit.”
”Really,” He challenged Ron.
”Cuz I have all four~” Ron smirked.
”Bloody hell.”
Malfoy snickered, “Need help with all those cards Potter?”
”Shove off.”
”Look whose losing now, bloody boy who lived.” He placed his card down. “One ten.”
Harry looked at the pile of cards. “Bullshit.”
”What?” He scowled.
”I said Bullshit, Malfoy. Now what was your card.”
Draco confidently flipped it before mentally screaming. A Queen. He drew the wrong fucking card.
Harry laughed, shoving the vile in his hands. “Loser has to drink it, Malfoy.”
”I refuse.”
”Awe, are you scared? I’ll drink it.” He smirked.
Draco scoffed and popped the cork off. “You lost too ass.”
”You guys have to split it then,” Pansy proposed.
”I don’t mind.”
”Yeah?”
”The potion won’t have an effect,” Harry shrugged. “Why not take a sip.”
Pansy moved the two over, “Alrighty, we’ll let ya out in five when the potion is done settling.”
Harry settled on a chair. “Kay.”
Draco let out a breath as the door clicked shut. “I have to?”
“Yes, you lost.”
“Fine,” He grumbled. He brought the vile to his cracked lips. Harry felt his breath catch as he watched his throat. He shook his head, his hair loosening from the bun it was pulled in. “Not so horrible. Here.”
Harry finished it off. The liquid was warm against his throat. It was good.
“All gone.” He let out a breath.
Malfoy sat by the fire across the room. “Potter.”
“Yeah?”
“Why did you shout like that?”
“Earlier?” A nod. Harry let out a sigh, running a hand through his messy brown locks. “I don’t know, I guess I don’t think it’s fair you and Pansy aren’t allowed to do holiday stuff?”
Draco stayed silent for a minute. “Even after..”
“Even after.” Harry looked at him. Hazel eyes meeting blue. “I’ve never hated you for being a Slytherin or whatever, Malfoy.”
“That’s comforting,” He rolled his eyes.
“I don’t think I hate you,” Harry admitted.
Draco looked at him. “Potter.”
“Hm?”
“Is the bloody potion getting to you that quickly?”
“Oh shove off. I’m being honest Draco.”
His eyes widened. “You-“
“Malfoy. I meant Malfoy.”
The blonde slowly got to his feet. He narrowed his eyes. “Potions aren’t affecting me, Harry.”
Harry tilted his head. His hair falling in his eyes. “Is that right?”
Draco took a breath. “You have no idea how I desire to take that smirk off your face.”
“Thanks Malfoy.”
“I hate you,” He let out a shudder,” I hate you so much Harry.”
The two left and Draco excused himself. A headache he said. Harry was confused at the flip his stomach did in that room. Maybe he was just hungry. Maybe it was the potion wearing off. Hermione raised an eyebrow. “So?”
“Nothing. Silence was nice.” Harry lied.
“Right.”
“Spin the bottle!”
Harry watched the fire while everyone went up to sleep. Draco entered shivering. The boy looked over. He silently lifted his hand to the other. Draco walked to him, taking his hand. “It’s only because it’s freezing.”
“Shh, I know.”
He moved to the other’s lap, curling into his body’s warmth. His body shank, his head resting against the other’s shoulder.
“Draco.”
A hum of reconciliation.
“Nevermind.” He ran his thumb over the other’s thigh in circles. The cracking of the fire was the only sound.
Draco let out a breath. He lifted his head and met his gaze, eyes hooded. Harry met his gaze. “Different colors,” He mumbled. One pale blue, one grey. Draco’s lips curved to a faint smile. He leaned in. Harry took his face in his hands. His skin was cold against his hands. Lips met. Draco shifted.
Harry slowly opened his eyes to meet the other’s. Draco softened his gaze, running his fingers along his cheek. “This never happened.”
“I know.”
Draco kissed him again. Slow, soft; Harry melted. “I hate you, Harry.” He mumbled, “You’ve driven me crazy since day one.”
Harry let out a breath. Draco placed his hand over his mouth. “I’m tired, just..just for tonight.”
Harry kept the other close, blankets holding the shivering blonde. Every now and then a kiss would happen. Soft and sweet, it would never happen again. Draco buried his face in Harry’s chest. He clutched the blankets to his thumping heart. Harry kept his fingers in his hair. “I don’t think about this..”
“Shut up,” He whispered. “If you say anything else I’ll regret it.”
Harry moved down under the blankets with him. He smiled gently at Draco. He moved a strand of hair out of his way. “I don’t regret it Draco.”
Chapter 5: Avoidance
Chapter Text
How could I have done that? Why did I do that? Fucking hell..
Draco walked briskly to a room he had claimed as his own. The door opened and startled Pansy. “I’ve fucked up.”
“In a “I signed my soul away” fucked up or in a “I murdered someone” fucked up?”
He fell to the couch, head buried in one of the pillows. “I kissed Harry,” He muttered.
“You what?”
He kicked his legs, “I kissed him, and he kissed back and I’m going to die.”
Pansy shut her book. “You- YOU KISSED???”
“YES!” He screamed into the pillow. The tips of his ears were red.
“I- well did you stay?”
He took a soft breath. “I left.”
“Why?! He kissed back.”
“I can’t- I- what would my father do?! What would I even do?”
“One, your father is in jail and will rot in hell.” Pansy crossed her arms. “And two, You’ve been simping over this man for like eight years.”
Draco lifted his head and let out a deep sigh. “I just, I can’t face him. Not after that. I should’ve held back, god his eyes are so pretty.”
“You’re an idiot and I’m not helping.”
“Shit..”
“Have you seen Malfoy?” Harry’s eyes searched the dining hall.
“No, why?” Ron bit into his eggs.
“Project.”
“Didnt you already finish that,” Hermione questioned.
“Revisions,” He came up with.
“Right.”
The door opened. Harry turned to it. Pansy was dragging the blonde to the table. His hair was let down, the white locks covering his face.
“Saw Malfoy,” Ron pointed.
Harry walked after the two. “Oi, Malfoy.”
A loud ‘shit’ came from Draco’s mouth. He shoved the plate of food in Pansy’s hands. He took off running.
“Hey!” Sounds of the two’s shoes against the floor filled the halls. Draco turned the corner, his face bright red. Harry slid right after him. Second and first years watching guessed the two were insane. “Draco, get your ass back here!“
“I’d rather die!” He shrieked.
“Then come here and I’ll kill you,” He shouted back.
Harry reached out and grasped the boy’s hair. Draco yelped as he was yanked back. “Ow! You idiot, you’re mangling my hair!”
“Don’t run next time.” Harry grabbed him
by his collar and dragged him towards the common room. “We need to have a little chat.”
“Please Merlin no.” Draco slumped and covered his face with his hands. “Just kill me now.”
Harry pushed him against the couch. “Why did you run?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” He snapped back. Harry’s grip tightened.
“Why?”
Draco refused to meet his eyes. “I- isnt obvious Potter?”
”Oh come off it!” Harry took his chin between his fingers, lifting his head, “Talk to me Draco, Merlin sake at least look at me.”
The blonde whimpered. He shifted before looking at him. “I can’t,” He whispered.
“Why?” Harry demanded. “You cannot bloody kiss me and leave!”
He let out a breath. “I- I didn’t mean it. Just leave me alone.”
His face fell. His grip loosened. “You want me to believe that?”
Draco searched his face. “You- you’re upset,” He mumbled; startled.
Harry adverted his eyes. “I don’t even know anymore,” He barely spoke.
Draco took a breath. A grasp of a white uniform collar. Fabric shifting against skin. The warmth of the other’s skin returned to his lips. Harry grasped his hips, keeping the other there. He separated from his lips. The other sighed softly. “Are you going to run again?”
The blonde watched his eyes shift. “No,” He decided. “I won’t.”
Harry let a sound of relief leave his mouth.
Merlin, why Draco of all people? What happened to cussing him out for looking at him? Instead, he had the other clinging to him in his bed. The sheets shifted against the blonde’s squirming. They broke for breath. Draco fell back, his hair spreading across the pillow. “Harry.”
”I know,” He started.
Draco brought his hand up to move his hair, “Let me finish.” A small smile creeped onto his lips. “Later.”
”No this didn’t happen?”
“I could consider it.”
Harry scoffed, “Shove it up your ass Malfoy.”
”Perhaps tonight I will.”
