Work Text:
Danny hadn’t necessarily been surprised when an owl suddenly came in the door giving him a letter proclaiming that he was a wizard, crazier things had happened to him.
First of all, he was technically dead, nothing really beats that.
Second of all, he was king of everything dead, which is probably the only thing that beats the previously mentioned thing.
So yeah, he wasn’t really surprised, just another Tuesday really.
He wasn’t even impressed when some woman came in with a pointy hat and told him about this school in England he had to go to.
Really, all he did was sigh and accept his fate, hey, maybe this way his parents won’t try to kill him as much!
Danny was packing the last of his things together, or, he was letting Sam pack the last of his things together (he could not be trusted to remember everything) while he checked the boxes on the checklist.
“This isn’t very feminist of you,” Tucker said, which earned him a smack from Sam.
Danny was going to miss this, Tucker’s comments that bordered on objectifying women and Sam’s endless tirades about being vegan or emo, or something else she was super into that month.
But it wasn’t like they wouldn’t still be talking, he could create ghost portals anywhere he wanted, talking to his friends would be a piece of cake!
He walked downstairs where professor McGonagall was talking to his parents.
“I’ll see you guys during the break!” Danny said before playfully saluting the teacher, she looked disapprovingly at him but walked over to the fireplace with him, throwing down magic powder (not that kind of magic powder, Danny had tried to sniff it, for science of course, and it did nothing, made him a bit hungry though) and then they were standing in an office.
An office with a ghost.
“Ancients,” Danny cursed under his breath, coming to a stop in front of the ghost.
He seemed pretty normal, and didn't look to have any malicious intent.
“Don’t worry Danny, you don’t have to be scared!” Professor McGonagall said.
Why did people always think he was scared of them?
What part of “son of ghost hunters” screamed scared ?
“This is Nicholas,” she said, gesturing to the ghost, “he’s one of the ghosts that haunt the school,”
“A pleasure to meet-” Nicholas nearly took his head off in a weird sort of bow, but stopped when he saw Danny.
Immediately he went down into a full-on bow, head dipped low as a sign of respect and stayed there.
“It is an honour, your majesty,” he said.
“There’s no need, I’m here for school, not business.” Danny laughed awkwardly, being a king had its problems.
“Of course there is a need! I take it I’m the first ghost you’ve met, there is no way I’m letting your first impression of the English ghosts be ghastly.” Danny sniggered at the pun, and that made Nick smile.
“I wasn’t aware the school had ghosts, is there a naturally occurring portal here? I’ve only heard of those appearing back in Amity,” Danny mused, looking around to try and spot a portal.
“We are all bound to the school, your royal highness, we don’t seek to be in the Zone. We were, of course, present for your coronation,” he added the last part in a rush, like he didn’t mean to offend.
“Pardon me, am I missing something?” Mcgonaggal asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes I should probably introduce myself again,” he cleared his throat, “Hello, my name is Danny Fenton, also known as Danny Phantom, High King Ghost.” Danny stuck out his hand, grinning as she took it, out of reflex more than anything.
“I wasn’t aware that you- how?” she stumbled over her words, not having any thought fully formed enough to speak.
“I got better,” he doesn’t give any more answers than that, choosing to instead walk out of the room with a wave to Nick.
Mcgonaggal startles awake and shows him where the rest of the first years are, although Danny is much older than a normal first year.
Danny didn’t ping their radar when he turned eleven, instead it pinged at some point after he turned 14… they had spent some time researching the matter before just reaching out to him, now Mcgonaggal couldn’t help but wonder if his death had anything to do with it.
She physically shook the thought away as she let him join the crowd of eager students, Danny had refused to buy a wand for reasons unknown (using a wand felt too much like reaching into his core, like he was directly using it in a forceful manner and his ghost half hated that) so he was probably the only one not gripping his wand tightly.
All in all he looked pretty calm, almost too calm.
Students came and went, a house would be shouted and cheering would start, then it was Danny’s turn.
He walked up to the hat, sitting down without much trouble and scanning his surroundings. A few of the ghosts held their breaths, looking much more interested than they had for any of the other students.
The hat started grumbling, talking too low for Danny to really follow, especially when a bunch of ghosts suddenly entered the room, kicking and screaming.
“There he is!” Ember screamed, pointing at Danny as she practically bounced where she stood.
“What are you guys doing in England?” he shouted at them.
“Why, we’re here to see you of course!” Kitty said, being driven all the way to the front by Johnny.
“Our little Danny is all grown up now!” she gushed, pinching his cheeks and giggling.
“Stop acting like such a mom,” he grumbled, rubbing his cheek.
Danny and all of the ghosts (Johnny, Kitty, Ember, Skulker, Technus, Fright Knight, the Box Ghost, the Lunch Lady, Dora and what seemed like the whole Far Frozen kingdom, who kept streaming into the room) decided to ignore the shocked and confused looks from the students.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?” a voice yelled, snapping his head towards the first years, where he spotted Wes Weston.
“Wes! I didn’t know you went here!” Danny giggled, kicking his legs out childishly as more ghosts came up and hugged him.
“How did they even-?” he heard a few teachers mumbled, he almost felt sorry for them. Maybe they could call up Lancer and ask him for his secrets on how to teach a Fenton.
“Don’t mind them, it’s not every day I get accepted into a magic school,” Danny said, like that explained why hundreds of ghosts were flooding the school.
“Gryffindor!” The hat interrupted, and all of the ghosts, who had no idea what was going on, cheered.
The hall had never been louder, and Danny was giggling all the way down to his seat.
“If these brits can’t make you any good food that will keep you healthy and in fighting shape don’t hesitate to call,” the Lunch Lady said, patting his head.
“Thanks M’lady.” Danny grinned.
Wes Weston was the next person up, and seeing as they didn’t care for him the ghosts all left, saying goodbye to Danny.
Wes became a Gryffindor.
Danny’s first class in the school year was potions, which he was genuinely excited about! Potions didn’t have a need for any magic and he liked that about it.
He came to class a little late (not even a magic school can make Danny come on time) so he rushed to his seat, unfortunately only the one at the front was free.
Looking up, Danny saw Vlad.
Because not even Danny moving to England could stop Vlad from making his life miserable.
“Pick a random page and try to copy the recipe, I need to speak to Daniel for a second.” with a wave of his hand, Vlad set them to it.
Very confused, the rest of the students got to work, except for Wes who started eavesdropping, wanting to know why his mayor was now his teacher. He knew the dude was friends with the Fentons, but this?
“Daniel, you must stop this, going to some magic school? It’s foolish, you’re a king , there is no need for this,” Vlad said.
“I can’t believe you came all the way to England just to annoy me! Shouldn’t you be off trying to kill my dad and seduce my mom?” Danny angrily bit out, not even bothering to keep quiet, the rest of the students let out a strangled cry.
“I’m sure Jack will inadvertently kill himself now that both of his children are out of the house, not even my brilliant Maddy can keep that dolt alive for so long without help.” he rolled his eyes.
“I won’t become your son, or let you clone me, where even is Dani?”
“Danielle is in Japan, trying some new cuisine using the money I sent her, she misses you,” Vlad vafts the topic away, “I accept that you can’t return, but then I will continue to act as your teacher,”
“Fine,”
“Fine,” Vlad said, because he always had to get the last word.
“Okay class!” Vlad spoke to the whole class again, the class that had been pretending not to listen in on his conversation, “We will be making the love potion-” Danny groaned, smacking his head into the table.
“And that’s ten points I’ll be taking away from Gryffindor,” all Vlad got in response was the middle finger.
Surprisingly, it takes him until the middle of the day before there are any ghostly interferences.
“DANIEL JAMES FENTON!” An observant bellowed from the door into the Charms class.
“Oh come on! I haven’t even killed anyone!” It was a poor attempt at a joke, but Tucker would’ve laughed if he was here.
It did leave him with some concerned looks from the rest of his classmates.
“It’s bad enough that you got to be king, now you’re a wizard !? No! NO!” the observant screamed, stalking up to him and plopping down beside him.
“YOU WILL REVOKE YOUR WIZARDRY,” he shouts, how does an eyeball shout? Not the time to be thinking about these things.
“Sorry, no can’t do, this is your fault . I didn’t choose to die! You could’ve done more to change the timeline! Anyway, I probably wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for you so, thanks.” he glanced at his nail, the black nail polish Sam had given him was starting to fall off.
“WE DID-!”
“Oh will you stop it, why can’t you guys just be happy for me!? All the other ghosts are!” Danny whined, and if he sounded a bit like a child then that wasn’t anyone's concern.
The observant huffed, blinking at his classmates before sighing and leaving.
“I’m so sorry about them, they can only see a certain future and are still grumpy about that one timeline where I killed everyone and became a villain,” Danny explained.
And maybe his classmates started fearing him after that, Danny didn’t really care, he had other people he could speak to; Nick made excellent company, and it was nice getting a break from all of the fighting.
Wes had thought he could finally get away from Fenton and his crazy family, but noooo, he just had to follow him!
At least these people were magic so they would probably believe him when he said Fenton was a ghost and was secretly Phantom.
…
…
…
Right?
Right?
RIGHT!?
“I mean, I can see that he’s friends with the ghosts, but being one himself? I don’t know, it seems kinda fake to me,” on of the students said.
“And then you want us to believe he’s a Superhero? It just doesn’t seem plausible man,” another said.
Wes was this close to ripping his hairs out.
