‘’Hey Blaze? Are you even listening to me or…?’’ Sonic tilted his head as Blaze looked at the river in silence. The blue hedgehog is aware that they were, how you call it? Ex lovers? Exes? Whatever it is, that didn’t mean they shouldn’t talk to each other and be friends like they used to be right? If they get along before they formed a relationship then they can surely get along again despite their differences and everything. Sonic was just talking about the chili hot dog being free for the whole next hour and wanted to invite Blaze to enjoy the time. Sure he could have invited anyone else- but he hasn’t talked to Blaze in a while because she’s very distant to him over the breakup they had last year. The breakup is over Blaze feels like Sonic doesn’t give her the love she needs and he's always running around saving the world which is understandable! He gets it but why do they have to be distant? It doesn’t make sense to him.
Blaze finally turn to look at him and stopped crossing her arms. ‘’Sonic, why do you always break no contact?’’ She asked him seriously.
The hedgehog blinks his eyes at that. ‘’No contact?’’ He asked himself. What does that mean? He place a finger in his chin to think deeply about what she said. ‘’Umm… I don’t know?’’ He said not wanting to sound ignorant about the matter. ‘’No contact? As if like… Not talking to you?’’ That is what made sense to his mind.
‘’Yeah that, I’m trying to move on from you but you… You always come back to me. Why? I’m the one who broke up with you? Shouldn’t you… Hate me for it?’’ Blaze said and frowned sadly.
Sonic widened his eyes. Hate her for it?! Where did she get that from?! ‘’What? Why would I hate you?’’ He said still confused at what she was trying to tell him. That he should stay away from her because they broke up.
Blaze looks at him and realizes now that maybe Sonic is not that experience in love as she thought. ‘’Umm… Sonic, don’t you feel sad about the breakup?’’ She said sadly that he may move on freely except her.
He looks to the side and shrugs. ‘’Yeah but… We’re still friends right?’’ Sonic asked her hoping she will respond yes. The breakup shouldn’t get in the way of them being happy as friends in his mind so there was no issue for him to be friends with Blaze. ‘’My worst enemies can be my friends so why can’t you be my friend too?’’ Sonic made another point, he’s kind of friends with Shadow whenever Shadow wants it so why not? ‘’Plus, even when I disagree about the break up you still have your duties as a princess, that’s why I accepted it too. I know that you said it’s because I’m always saving the world, but I think you forgot that you also need to do your responsibilities.’’ Sonic explained more in detail about it, he didn’t know why but he felt like Blaze didn’t seem to get the whole picture of how he is even though they dated.
Blaze raises an eyebrow at what he’s saying and place a hand in her hip as she stares at Sonic weirdly.
Sonic knew the look on her face and smile. ‘’I rather not think about it too much and have fun! We had fun before we dated right?’’ He asked her as he tilted his head and pointed at her waiting for her response.
The cat think about what he said and nodded silently as she thinks about what he getting at with this. ‘’So? Let’s have fun like we always do! I always tried to invite you with the others too but you always hang up on me. Then Amy kinda slaps my arm telling me I should respect your space as a lady but honestly I don’t get it.’’ He admitted his lack of knowledge about what’s moving on means.
Blaze sighed at this and shake her head. ‘’Let me explain then.’’ She said as Sonic stopped everything to pay attention to what she needed to say. ‘’When two people break up, it leaves a wound in them. They need to move on, which means… Not contacting you, if I did I will feel more heartbroken. You understand this right?’’ She said getting rid of her hand from her hip.
Sonic thinks about what she said. ‘’Are you saying you’re heartbroken? But… I thought you wanted that?’’ His voice tone soften down sadly and took a step forward closer to Blaze. Did he mess up?
She frowned. ‘’I thought I wanted to break up, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.’’ She covers her face in shame. She’s always strong and knows what’s best for everyone, here she is not knowing what’s best for her. ‘’I guess… I’m confused about us...’’ She said blinking her eyes to prevent tears from coming out. She still loves him when she’s pretending she doesn’t.
‘’Oh… That’s not good.’’ Sonic only responded going to place a hand in her shoulder to attempt to comfort her in some way. ‘’You know? I’m also… Sad about the breakup. I miss you like every day. Sometimes I wonder when you’re coming over to read one of your books out loud and I pretend like I’m bored when I’m not.’’ He said it with a smile as he cheers up with that memory. ‘’I try to think about something else like chili hot dog but you’re always in my mind. That doesn’t mean I want to stop hanging out with you because I’m still in love with you, you’re a great friend! And you know, maybe we don’t know what we want but there’s one way to find out right?’’ He said lifting a finger up and getting close to her trying to get an answer out of her.
Blaze is staring at him blankly and then broke out that serious princess expression with a giggle and covers her mouth. Sonic grins when she’s giggling, he wanted her to laugh and he got it! ‘’Right! Let’s just hang out like we always do. Not all the time sure, when we’re free like now.’’ He steps back and winks at her.
Sonic… He’s ignorant about some things but he’s so carefree ultimately. Something she needs to be sometimes. ‘’Alright, you win Sonic.’’ Blaze said smiling at him finally.
The blue hedgehog fist bumps in the air at her agreement and grabs her hand. ‘’Then let’s go before there are no free chili hot dogs!’’ He said jogging while Blaze is flustered at the hand holding but followed him anyway.
The hot dog stand had a lot of people in line. It’s free chili hot dogs so nobody is questioning why there’s a big line. Blaze crosses her arms and looks at the line. ‘’This is the line?’’ She asked Sonic curiously, the hedgehog turned around to nod. ‘’Yep, this is the line. A lot of people want chili hot dog!’’ He said cheerfully.
Blaze smiles at him. ‘’I thought you were the only one who likes chili hot dogs.’’ She said honestly. She has never seen any of his friends ever grab themselves a chili hot dog other than Sonic himself who is obsessed with it. The only time she has ever tried to eat it is whenever Sonic was craving for them and the taste it’s not bad. Sonic places his hand in her shoulder since he’s behind her as a way for her to keep moving in the line. ‘’Can you blame me? They’re so good! And you like them too!’’ He said as they move forward in the line. True she does kind of like them, not as much as Sonic though. ‘’Sure.’’ Blaze only responded to that as they waited in line.
Eventually, they managed to get free chili hot dogs and these were the last ones so they were very lucky. Sonic eats his chili hot dog on a table and an umbrella above it. ‘’Do you like it?’’ Sonic asked Blaze and he took a sip of his soda shake.
Blaze is eating her meal and glances at Sonic. ‘’What?’’ She asked as she was focusing on eating the chili hot dog.
Sonic gestures the food. ‘’You know, the chili hot dog!’’ He said and took a bite out of his food.
The cat smile and looks at him. ‘’Just as exactly when we were together, it’s pretty decent for a hot dog.’’ She said cherishing their memories of them being together, she sighed and frowned. ‘’And… I’m realizing this now but I shouldn’t have broken up with you just because you have a busy life. I also have a busy life so is not fair for you.’’
Sonic stopped eating as he keep his wide eye on the girl. He started laughing and looks at his chili hot dog. ‘’Who would think chili hot dog can fix a relationship?’’ He joked and continue to laugh at the fact. Blaze's eyes lidded down at the joke but then she cracked a smile as she watches Sonic laughing his butt off. She places her hand on her cheek to just observe Sonic laughing, is always nice to see him so happy instead of being concerned about her. That’s Sonic for you.
