Work Text:
Ranboo used to never know what to think about mornings. They were always either bad, or worse. Back home, getting out of bed was always a struggle, especially if it ended up being a chair day. He tossed and turned too much during the night, and it always caused him to wake up sore and aching. Mornings always started with The Test: he'd grab his cane and push himself to his feet. If his legs didn't almost immediately buckle under him, it was a cane day. If they did, he had to hobble himself as quickly and carefully as he could to his wheelchair before he collapsed.
It didn't help that his parents' house had two stories. Going down the stairs with his cane was alright, but with his chair he had to have someone carry his chair down and someone else help him down the stairs. Thankfully, the extension at Tubbo's house was only one story, save for the loft, and they had decided it would go to Tommy or anyone else who came to visit and spent the night.
Tubbo made mornings in the UK better. Ranboo now had someone who could help him get out of bed. Together they would get him laid down flat on his back, where he could stay and let his body adjust a little. Then, Tubbo would grab his hands and carefully pull him up to where he was sitting before they worked together to turn his legs to hang off the side of the bed. It was always a very careful, very smooth operation. And Ranboo couldn't be more grateful. Tubbo never complained once during the whole ordeal, even after Ranboo thought he'd get tired of it after a few days. Yet, here they were, about a month and a half into his stay, and Tubbo still helped out in the mornings.
That's how this particular morning went. Tubbo had woken up next to his hunched over boyfriend, whose limbs were all tangled together in a way that looked painful. He couldn't really do anything without Ranboo awake, so he just cuddled up as carefully as he could to Ranboo back, tucking a bit of his face into the crook of his neck.
Ranboo woke up not long after, wincing a bit as he registered the ache spreading throughout his body. Tubbo sat up and started running a hand through Ranboo's hair and whispered a good morning. Ranboo just hummed in response. Tubbo carefully started untangling the blanket from Ranboo's legs and set it to the side once he had finished. He slowly started straightening out Ranboo's arms and legs, Ranboo letting himself be gently manhandled. They both knew that if anything got to be too painful, Tubbo would immediately stop when the other said to. Eventually, Tubbo got him adjusted onto his back, arms and legs stretched out. The corners of his mouth twitched up when Tubbo leaned down to press a kiss to his forehead.
"I'm gonna go grab your chair real quick while you take a second."
Ranboo just nodded in response, taking a deep breath in an attempt to wake himself up more.
It didn't take long for Tubbo to find it. It was sat at the bottom of the steps leading up to a loft, and a quick glance up let him know that Tommy was still asleep. As quickly and quietly as he could, he wheeled it back to Ranboo's and his room. He looked a bit more awake when he returned.
Tubbo rolled it to the foot of the bed. "You ready to sit up?"
Ranboo huffed. "Well, if I don't get up now, I probably never will."
Tubbo climbed up to stand on the bed, feet planted on either side of Ranboo's thighs. Ranboo held his hands up, and Tubbo leaned forward a bit to grab them, carefully pulling and leaning back. He took small steps back as Ranboo lifted up, and finally he was upright.
"Everything good?" Tubbo asked as he climbed back off of the bed to stand next to it, putting his hands on Ranboo's ankles.
Ranboo straightened his back out a bit, and they both winced a little at the loud pop it made. "Eh, good enough, I guess."
He put his hands on the bed next to his waist, and on the count of three he pushed up slightly. Tubbo slowly started twisting his legs around. They had to stop a few times from how shaky Ranboo's arms were, but they eventually got his legs over the side of the bed. Tubbo grabbed his cane from where it was leaning against the wall while he caught his breath.
"Do you want to go ahead and get dressed first?"
Ranboo thought for a second. It would take a little bit to do that, but it would be nice to already have jeans on if it turned out to be a chair day. He nods, and Tubbo digs out a pair of his jeans and some socks. Changing his shirt won't be too much trouble if it's a chair day, so pants and socks are really all that's needed for the moment.
Tubbo helps him slip his pajama pants off, and Ranboo leans down to put his socks on while Tubbo puts them away. Together they manage to get his pants on, and Tubbo finally hands him his cane. He puts it in between his legs, and Tubbo stands close by in case he needs to catch him.
He starts pushing himself up, and the little wobble he does has Tubbo's hands shooting out to stable him. It's not needed though, as Ranboo manages to fully stand up, leaning his weight on the cane. He takes a few breaths as he steadies himself. Despite how he felt earlier, the pain is manageable. He takes a cautious step to test his balance, and his legs, although a bit shaky, hold him up.
"Are you good? Need the chair or anything?"
"Nope, just the cane for today."
Ranboo holds an arm out, and Tubbo moves to hug him, face buried in his chest. Ranboo wraps one arm around him and buries his face into Tubbo's hair. He presses a kiss to the top of his head, and Tubbo looks up at him, smiling. Ranboo takes his chance to kiss Tubbo's forehead, and Tubbo leans up to press a quick kiss to his lips. One more quick squeeze and then Tubbo's moving away. Ranboo adjusts his grip on the cane and Tubbo wheels the chair out of the bedroom and back into the main area of the extension. Even though Ranboo's fine with just the cane for now, there's no telling for later in the day, so he likes to keep it out just in case.
He starts making his way out of the room when he pauses hearing a faint thud and a yell from Tommy. The only word he manages to make out is Tubbo's name, so he assumes that he threw something at Tommy to wake him up. He just shakes his head and smiles to himself as he prepares for whatever chaos he's about to see. He adjusts his stance and starts moving again.
Time to start the day.
