Chapter Text
“We can’t seem to find a way out!”
“They’re attacking, everybody, move!”
“You bastard! How could you betray us like this! Why!?”
“My son, it's okay, it's okay, don’t cry okay, your father Is here for you.”
“Dammit, not now, not when I was so close!”
“Get back here! Get back here dammit- come back! No, No, No, Root, Root, MY SON! ROOT!”
“ROOT!”
“Root.”
“Root.”
Before I realized it, a blinding flash of light poured upon me, hitting me with its warm heat, causing me to open my eyes and cringe, before I could fully see who let the light in, a voice rang out to me.
“It's time for breakfast Root, please hurry up and get dressed, once you’re done putting your garments on, please come to the living room to eat breakfast.”
The boy flung to the left, trying to hide away from the sunlight as if he were allergic to it, knowing fully well that it was none other than his Master. He groaned as he pulled his bedsheets over him, completely ignoring his Master's orders, having been still half asleep, he responded groggily.
“Mmmmmmmm, 7 more minutes, and then I can eat all the food I want. O~oka~a~y."
This, of course, caused the voice to sigh in irritation. Immediately, before one could even blink, she hauled off the sheets, alongside the groggy and half tired boy with it, causing him to fly in the air before hitting the ground with a loud thud. He looked up in pain towards his Master while rubbing his head.
“Ow Ow Ow w-what was that for Lady Ran!?”
The women in question stood in front of him, glaring at him with fury in her eyes. She adorned a white dress with purple cuffs and a collar, alongside that, she wore an indigo tabard with white prints, white and blue footwear, and a two-tailed hat. But what was most distinguishing apart from her strange clothing, were her nine tails that resembled that of a fox. If one not custom to the land of Gensokyo were to see such a sight, their reactions would probably vary, from fear to that of confusion, and, at most rare occasions, one of possible comfort.
“Root.” the woman said to him calmly, causing the boy to perk and look up at her while he still rubbed the top of his head, still recovering from his mishap that happened not too long ago, he responded back, fear present in his voice.
“Y-Y-Yes L-Lady Ran, what i-is it?”
“Please refrain from ignoring my orders please, like I said before, it is time for breakfast, and you wouldn’t want to miss breakfast, would you?”
The boy nodded cautiously, still in shock from what happened mere seconds ago. His Master spoke again, this time in a much more refined and calmer tone.
“Good, now hurry and put on your clothes, there is a big day ahead of us and it would be an inconvenience to our schedule if we were to laze around all day.”
Ran turned around and walked toward the doorway before she stopped in her tracks and spoke once again.
“Also, Yukari-sama has a big task for you today, so please, do bring “Spell Cards” and do not misbehave, or else," Before Ran finished her sentence, she turned and glared towards Root, causing him to freeze in place, “Lectures will last past lunch AND dinner." and with that, she walked out the room.
Root waited a few seconds to make sure her footsteps became nothing more but faint tramps, until he stood up and dusted himself off. This wasn’t the first time the boy had mornings like these, in fact, these types of events happened almost every day, with the end result most of the times having Root being lectured harshly by his Master.
Not wanting to be harshly scolded by Ran again, Root went to the nearest drawer that was located to the left of his bed and pulled out his garments before changing to prepare for the day ahead of him.
After ten minutes, the boy had finally finished putting on more appropriate and cleaner garments. He walked towards the rooms mirror and looked at himself. He wore a plain white t-shirt that was tucked inside his pants, a red scarf, red fingerless gloves, and black pants, with black shoes to top it off. While it may had seemed outlandish and bland for him to wear such garbs, he actually quite enjoyed his style. It allowed proper freedom for him in fights, and he could always do normal day to day tasks without having to worry about some flimsy kimono or whatever type of clothing normal people wore in Gensokyo. He also looked at his spiked-up hair, his hair was more pointed towards the front then that of his back and his sides, but despite having this feature, it never really bothered him in his sleep. Which was a blessing in disguise, since he moved a ton in his sleep, which left most of his bed to be ruffled and messy. Which, unfortunately, left Ran to do most of the cleaning, much to her annoyance.
The next thing he looked at was his tail, despite it looking like a cat's tail, he was told that he was a "Sarugami Youkai", a special type of Youkai that existed years ago, and was close to extinction. Though, at the time, when he asked his Master's Master what type of Youkai he was at first when he was a young child, she looked truly shaken, as if she were forgetting something important. Or something else that troubled her mind.
Having shook the thought out of his mind, Root grabbed a nearby brush to brush his tail, and after looking at it and making sure it was properly groomed, he looked at himself in the mirror, “Alright! Now I’m ready, I hope Lady Ran made lots of food, I’m starving!” And like that, the boy dashed out the door, ready to begin his journey.
Unfortunately, his “Journey” was cut short. As soon as he dashed out the door and turned to head to the kitchen, the boy collided with something, causing both to tumble in opposite directions, and making them yelp in pain from the collision.
“Nyeow!”
“Uaugh!”
Seconds later, Root sat up, yelling at the top of his lungs at the thing he had just bumped Into, “Hey, what gives, can’t you see I’m trying to go fetch some grub!?” before the boy could even mutter another rant, another voice yelled out towards him, “It's your fault Root, you ran towards me! *sniffle*”.
Root's whole cheerful mood went sour, and down to the dumps from the petite voice that reached his ears. He knew all too well who’s voice this belonged to, in fact, he was hoping he wouldn’t even have to hear it during breakfast, but much to his dismay, fate had other plans to annoy him.
This voice belonged to none other than his Shikigami companion, "Chen". Chen, in Roots vision, had always been annoying from the start, sometimes they would often bicker against each other over the pettiest and most trivial things, with it often times leading to Ran having to disrupt their arguing and lecturing them about their Shikigami status and how it was Improper for those in the Yakumo household to argue.
Of course, these lectures did little more than calm their intolerance towards each other. Instead, it did the opposite and increased their chances of arguing, and thus, a cycle would be in play within the vicinity. Each argument being bigger than the next, and having more fuel added to the fire for each second, they went at it.
Root was the first to recover from the fall and got up from the floor quickly, dusting himself off as he did when he was thrown off his bed and onto the floor by Ran. Chen shortly after recovered and dusted herself off as well before looking back at Root. Root examined her to see if she had any Spell Cards out, ready to attack him in case she lost her temper like all the other times they had argued, but the only thing he noticed was her wearing her usual attire.
From looks alone, nothing seemed to stand out against his eyes, or maybe he was just too tired from morning drowsiness to see the clearer picture
Chen had dark brown eyes, brown hair that a green mob cap was covering. She also had black cat ears with the left ear having a gold earring. She also wore a red dress with a white bow as a collar, her dress was also adorned with gold trimmings and light pink frills at the bottom, but the thing that stood out the most was her two catlike tails, as expected of a "Bakeneko". A Youkai that took the form of a cat, much like how Sarugami looked like apes.
Both silently looked at each other, the air felt tense, the environment felt rocky, it was as if the Earth itself was cowering in fear. Had any bystander walked by and were to have seen such an event, they would have been shaken up, pleading in their mind that they both wouldn’t start an outburst and argue. But luckily, it didn’t, and seconds turned into a minute, then two, and then three. It wasn’t until Chen and Root crossed their arms and pouted to the side before talking to one another, “Hmph, it wasn’t me who bumped into you, y- yeah, it was definitely you who did It, so you should apologize this Instant!” Both quickly had looks of astonishment after talking at the same time, it wasn’t until they both started speaking again, “Stop copying me!”
“No, you’re the one copying me!"
“I said stop copying me!”
And so, the endless bickering between two Shikigami had begun.
Shikigami are arguing, please wait cautiously...
Sometimes, battles come with a cost, at times they are too high, at times they are too low, but in the end, they will always have the same result, they eventually end. Fortunately, within a certain household, a battle had just ended. Within that house, two figures lay on the floor, exhausted from the mental energy they had just used up. It wasn’t until one of them decided to talk, “And that’s *huff* why you *huff* should be the *huff* one to *huff* apologize”. A boy's raspy voice could be heard in the hallway before another voice spoke up, “Nu *huff* uh, you were the one who did It, *huff* If only you looked where you were going *huff* Root!” This time, it was a girl's voice who spoke up.
Within the middle of the hallway, both Root and Chen could be seen laying on the floor, tired from their arguing and squabble. From the looks of things, it seemed that their fight had died down and eventually come to a halt. After regaining their breathe, both sat up and looked at each other before Root started to speak to Chen. “Now that I think about it, it looked like you were heading the opposite direction of me before we hit each other, did one of the cats you adopt pee on the floor or something again?” the boy asked cheerfully with a hint of cheekiness to his attitude.
Chen, still having been sour from not getting the apology she wanted earlier, had her anger heighten slightly, since her fellow Shiki companion was able to ask such a question after their heated argument, especially since it involved one of her cats that she brought over to "Mayohiga", but despite this, she responded annoyingly.
“Ran-sama told me to come get you since you were taking too long to come eat breakfast.” the Bakeneko said grudgingly. Yet, after a few seconds of having said that aloud, she went stiff, even putting Root unease at the cat's lifeless gaze. Before Root could even say anything, she yelled out in despair with her arms raised in the air with fear, “NOOOOOOOO! I completely forgot about Ran-sama and her request to bring you to breakfast! Ran-sama is going to kill me if we don’t go right now.” upon saying that Chen Immediately felt someone grab her hand forcefully, causing the Bakeneko to yelp at the sudden action.
Upon realizing who it was, she could see Root giving her a stressed-out scowl, and before she could mutter a speck of a word, Root interrupted her. “Then what the heck are we waiting for? Let's go! The food's not gonna eat itself you know!”
Shortly after, both Sarugami and Bakeneko ran to their max in the halls of Mayohiga, trying their best to excel as much energy as much as possible despite the both of them still being fatigued from their arguing earlier. While running, Chen could feel her whole body being dragged by Root by his hand in a forceful, yet controlled manner, while the both of them ran without any breaks, Chen hollered out at him In panic and anger, “R- Root, were gonna hit something, slow down, slow doooowwwnnn! Mrreeooow!"
Though despite being forcefully led by Root, she wasn’t actually trying to stop him or get out of his grip, whether it was due to his abnormal strength, or either she was afraid she’ll be flung off into the air if she did let go. In the end, she didn’t put up any struggle, in fact, it looked like she was slightly enjoying it, albeit, with a tint of fear on her face.
But the most peculiar thing of all that morning, was the small, yet modest blush that was closely visible on her face.
While both were still running within the vicinity, Root chimed in and yelled out with agitation present in his mouth, “No way, I already got a mouthful from Lady Ran this morning! And I don’t plan on getting an earful during breakfast, I would rather eat a thousand bananas and get fat instead of-oops." while running, he felt something clash lightly into his foot. It seemed, because of Roots complaining, he didn’t realize that he tripped on a stray cat in the middle of the hallway, causing both Sarugami and Bakeneko to fly into the air.
“Root, you duuuuummmmmmmyyyy!” Chen yelled out.
“Ah, so the cat was peeing on the floor.” Root said while midair, before both Monkey and Cat entered a gap that appeared in the air.
Before long, both Root and Chen fell on the floor with a loud thud, causing both to grunt in pain. While lying on the floor and recovering from what just happened, an elegant Woman's voice called out at the pair. “My, how kind of the both of you to drop in so suddenly, Root, Chen.” the graceful and soft voice said. Both Root and Chen didn’t even have to think to know who this person was, nor even lay their eyes to see at all. This was, indeed, the head of the household, their Masters Master, one of the strongest beings in Gensokyo.
The Gap Youkai, the Sage that ruled with an Iron command within the shadows,
"Yukari Yakumo."
Both Root and Chen, after shortly pulling themselves from their fiasco, were now sitting at a dinner table, with Yukari sitting at the opposite side of Root on the right. Yukari adorned purple eyes, gorgeous long blonde hair, a Chinese-style tabard with various Trigrams over a pale pink Western-style dress, similar to that of Ran's. Her hair was also coiled up into a mob cap that was snugly warm on her head, she also had a parasol that was laid out at the side of the table.
Ran sat at the opposite side of Chen on the left, still wearing the same garments when she woke up Root. On the table, there lay an array of dishes. Steamed Rice, Miso Soup, Grilled Fish, a traditional Japanese breakfast that could make anyone drool at the sight, especially Root. While Chen, Ran, and Yukari had the usual supplement of food, alongside some green tea, Root had 3 bowls of Miso soup, 5 whole grilled fish, and a bigger bowl than usual with a mounded amount of rice. “Oh boy, it’s chow time!” he said out loud impatiently before he felt the ice-cold gazes of the other household residences staring deeply into his soul, and before Root could take a big bite out of the Grilled Fish, he put the fish down carefully and clasps his hands together
"Itadakimasu!" he said out loud, after doing so, the other residences did the same as well.
While eating, Yukari looked at Root while holding a piece of grilled fish, “Root, there are a few important tasks I have for you today, and they will need to be attende-.” but before The Gap Youkai could even proceed on forward with her words, the sounds of Root chowing down on his food very quickly deafened her words.
First, finishing the grilled fish in a matter of seconds, then completely devouring the miso soup like a wave splashing down on a person. The next thing on the young Sarugami's eyes was the bowl of rice, he looked at the bowl with its contents inside like a hawk, ready to swoop down and devour their prey.
But before Root could even lay a finger on the bowl, a voice called out to him, “Root."
He paused and looked at the source of the voice, with the source of the voice belonging to none other than his Master, Ran, who was now standing up with her hands inside her sleeves. “Y- Yes Lady Ran? W- What is it?” fear was present in his voice, and he was clearly shaken up by her cold and sharp gaze alongside her monotone and void less voice. Chen snickered to herself, watching as the event unfolded in front of her with childish glee until she noticed Ran staring towards her as well before returning to her meal.
The older Youkai sighed, and gave her Shikigami an alarming stare, “How many times do I have to repeat myself Root? To not only rudely eat in such a disrespectful manner, but to do it while Yukari-sama is speaking no less!" Ran kept looking at him disappointingly, before continuing to speak again, “Perhaps a disciplinary lesson and a lecture are in need of today after all.” She said coldly.
Root suddenly refuted back, “B- But Lady Ran! I can’t focus when I’m hungry! My stomach feels like deflating, and the food looks sooooo good.” the boy exclaimed out in desperation, but the Fox Youkai was having none of it today. “And yet that is no excuse for your disrespectful manner, in the name of Yakumo we-” before Ran could continue any further, Yukari Interrupted her, “Now now Ran, Root has a point, it would be quite impossible to focus and work while starving.” the Mistress of the household said, causing the "Kitsune" to reply back in surprise, “B- But Yukari-sama! If this keeps continuing, Root will give the Yakumo name a bad image.”
The Gap Youkai sighed, before responding back to her subordinate in a mundane way, “I’m well aware of that Ran, unless if you are signifying that I am a lousy Master and can’t control my own subordinates, and while it is your responsibility to keep your Shikigami in shape, it is also my responsibility to make sure you do it correctly, need I remind you who the one in charge of this household is?” the Gap Youkai said towards her Fox subordinate with a sharp look, her gaze sent a chill down the Kitsunes spine, causing Ran to stand still for a moment, until eventually she bowed to her Mistress and apologized before sitting back down In her seat, “My apologies Yukari-sama, it's just, I only wish Root could take things more seriously, ever since you bought him Into our lives, he’s been... well, a very eccentric child.”
Ran took a small pause before she spoke up again, “I’m glad Chen also has someone to compete with like Root, but they mostly argue over things that are not beneficial to anything, and it hinders their training and development.” Ran looked down, her expression showed that of distress.
Yukari looked at her servant with a neutral look, before a warm smile appeared, “I know how hard you’ve been working to give those two the proper knowledge they need, but please, do understand that they are only children, and within due time, they’ll understand the responsibility of being more than just a 'Shikigami'.” Ran looked at her Master, and hesitated before speaking again, “Yes, Yukari-sama, I’ll try. I'll try, even if it comes down to my last breath with their needless banter.” she said with a tired grin.
Yukari giggled a little before looking at the direction of the two Shikigami, “Good. Now then, Root, Chen, are you both done?” but having not realized how long she and Ran had been talking for, both Sarugami and Bakeneko were more than done. Instead of seeing the both of them at the opposite sides of the table, there was instead, two empty seats, with the plates that were once there being gone, most likely at the kitchens sink, “Oh my, it seems we conversed for quite some time now, shall we hurry on Ran?” Yukari asked the Kitsune, with the Fox Youkai responding back with a nod.
Outside the back of Mayohiga, Root could be seen warming up, doing a few stretches and then jogging in a stationary manner, while Chen on the other hand could be seen sitting not too far away with a cat atop of her lap. The Cat Youkai watched her fellow Shikigami with a deriding frown, before talking to the cat on her lap, “Sometimes I wish Root would stop and accept that I’m better than him, he’s always too loud and obnoxious, and I always get dragged down by him because of it. He's always boasting about the things he does like they're the greatest things ever, but all he does is small tasks anyway, I don't understand why he would take enjoyment in doing them, especially since he comes back so quickly afterwards. Hmph, me going with Ran-sama to check on the barrier is much better and cooler than whatever he is doing.”
"What do you think?” Chen asked the cat atop of her, only for the cat to respond with a small meow, “Huh? What do you mean it's sometimes my fault?” Chen pouted to the side, “It's definitely all his fault... Definitely."
Before another word could come out of her mouth, she could hear Ran call out for them from the front, as quickly as she could, she called for Root, “Root! Ran-sama and Yukari-sama need us, c’mon!” and like that, the Bakeneko went running off from around the side and towards the front of Mayohiga.
“Got it! Alright, one more push up and off I go.” after doing his last pushup, Root pulled himself up and ran for the front quickly to hear what his Masters had in store for him. Once arriving at the front, he could see Chen standing in front of Ran and Yukari with her back towards him, not wanting to waste any more time, Root quickly walked up to his Masters to await the Important tasks that were to be sent to him.
“Good, the both of you are here, let's get started shall we?" Yukari said with a grin before she cleared her throat and started to speak again, “Root, Chen, the both of you will be working together on this one today, as there’s too much for Root to handle this time. Do you understand?”
“Nya?”
“Huh?”
Both Shikigami looked at each other, then at Yukari, then back to each other. Time felt like a ticking time bomb before they both exploded with rage, “No way!? There's No way I can work with him/her! He’s/She's so annoying! I don’t need His/Her help!" As if expecting this reaction, Yukari looked at the both of them with shrewd eyes, “I know you both don’t like the Idea of having to work with each other, especially since this is one of the few rare occasions that you do." she looked at Chen, "I know you usually go and Inspect the Hakurei Barrier to see if there are any signs of disturbances with Ran, Chen," she looked down at Root, "and I know you’ve always done a good job done at doing small tasks by yourself Root, but this time it's different.” The Gap Youkai said sternly.
Something like this was no strange occurrence, most of the times Yukari would send Root to complete tasks that she needed done while also having both Ran and Chen to inspect the Hakurei Barrier, but on the most rarest occasions, she would have both Shikigami work together on a minor objective whether they liked It or not, today was no exception.
When both Root and Chen calmed down a couple minutes later, Root started to speak once more, “Lady Yukari?” upon hearing the concern and tone of questioning in the boy’s voice, she nodded her head to accept his question. “Um, if I may ask Lady Yukari? What type of tasks do we have today?” as if on cue, she looked at both Root and Chen before explaining out loud their tasks for the day. “There are a few things you two must do today, but first, do you two have your Spell Cards?” without any hesitation, the both of them nodded.
From what Root remembered, Spell Cards played an important part within "Danmaku Duels" Spell Cards represented a person's identity, their offensive and defense powers, a mental battle of who has the most beautiful Spell Card. Within one of these duels, when one activates their Spell Card, you are either to dodge or use your own Spell Card in case you are close to reaching your limit. An effective way to fight without little to no casualties.
“First”, Yukari started to speak again, “Your first task is to go to the "Scarlet Devil Mansion", and give this handwritten paper to the Mistress that leads it.” Root started to get curious and asked her another question, “What's this paper for?” Yukari smiled Impudently, “Oh, it's nothing too much to worry about, it's just a note for when the next set of humans that they’ll be able to feast on will come.”
That's right, this was Gensokyo they were wandering in. Gensokyo in itself was excluded from most of the world, harboring most of Its Youkai, Gods, and anything else that was forgotten by mankind. So, it wasn’t a surprise when the word would pop out, but Root hated the word "Youkai" and what It represented, he hated that he was this presumed, man slaughtering, and merciless gluttonous monster, and yet, strangely enough, he had never had human meat, nor had he ever drunk human blood in his 13 years of life. At least, not that he knew of.
Youkai derived from human meat and blood to live, as well as the imagination of them, so how was he still alive and kicking? No matter, he still had tasks to listen to.
“Second” this time, instead of Yukari being the one to explain, it was Ran, “The both of you are to head to "Eientei" and purchase some medicine that will last for about a year at best, oh- and make sure its Tofu flavor as well.” After saying her requests, she was immediately bonked on the head lightly by Yukari's parasol, this time Yukari decided to take up the role to speak, “Just make sure the taste is edible.” she said before Chen decided to ask a question, “Yukari-sama, I still don’t understand why I still have to work with Root?”
“Yeah, what Chen said! Couldn't either one of us be fine to complete these tasks.” Root chimed In after.
The Gap Youkai frowned and nodded, “Not only are the both of you completing said tasks, but this also counts as training as well. Root, Chen, your teamwork as it is now will not develop any further unless the both of you learn on how to tolerate one another. Not only that, but the both of you have been too laxed lately. I’m afraid if this continues on any longer, the both of you may not be my Shikigami any longer.” a chill ran down both their spines, and they broke into a cold sweat.
Ran peered from behind her, and looked at Yukari with a worried expression, but she shook it off as the Youkai Sage ordered out once again.
"Third,” make sure to buy new furniture at "Kourindou." this requests out of the three, surprised both Root and Chen the most. Even Ran seemed appalled by her request.
Kourindou was an antique shop run by only one man that Root knew very well whenever he would go on his small task adventures. While the store itself barely had any customers on a day to day basis, Root would occasionally look inside to see if there was anything of interests to buy when doing any tasks that was given to him.
Unfortunately, most of, if not, every time he would run out empty handed, but he still held out hope that one day there would be something of interests. Maybe a new food Item, or a beverage of sorts would catch his eye, but time could only tell.
“Did something break Lady Yukari?” Root asked, curiosity getting the best of him again. Yukari gave a deep sigh, “In fact, something did break. Our Kotatsu broke last summer and I was hoping when I could find an opportunity to purchase a new one, and even though I could use my "Gaps" to get a new one, Kotatsus from the outside world seem to be dwindling and changing rapidly, and they don't seem to meet any of Mayohiga's internal criteria's, luckily, it seems today is the perfect day.” The Youkai Sage said eagerly
“Oh yeah, now I remember, wasn’t it because one of the cats kept biting one of the cords, causing it to blow into smithereens?” Root said while putting both his arms behind his head while looking at Chen within the corner of his eye, causing the Bakeneko to refute angrily. “Are you trying to say it's my fault!?”
Root, now fully looking towards Chen, gave her a brazen glare, “Duh, if only you stopped bringing in so many cats into Mayohiga, then my bed sheets wouldn’t have so many cat hairs on them!”
“Huh!? The reason the cat bit the cord was because you were feeding it pieces of bananas!"
“Huh!? No way, It's your fault for letting the cat in in the first place!”
“Nuh-uh! It's because you're always too loud while training during the day, the cats couldn’t sleep at all so I let them in so they could sleep!”
“Nnnghh, wet cat!”
“Lazy monkey!”
"Lazy!? But I train a lot, unlike you, who's always taking naps without permission!"
"Wha-!? T- That's not true! That's not true at all!!!"
Both Shikigami were now eye to eye for what seemed like eons. It wasn’t until both turned around, crossed their arms and made an audible "hmph" sound.
Yukari chuckled to herself while Ran on the other hand looked on with nervous sweat beading down. “How about this, why don’t we make a competition out of this situation of ours then?” This piqued the interests of both Shiki, and upon hearing what their Master said, they listened in to hear what the Gap Youkai had to say attentively. “The Kotatsu blowing up wasn’t due to any cat or any banana feeding, how about this. If you both can complete all my tasks that were given to you, I shall declare a winner between the both of you, alongside that, I will also expose who the real culprit is that blew up the Kotatsu last Summer.”
Despite the Gap Youkai's valiant effort to give motivation to the two, neither of them budged an inch. Upon realizing this, Yukari knew what she had to do to deliver the final nail in the coffin, with a smirk hidden by a hand fan she pulled out of nowhere, she said one last thing. The last thing that would certainly rile one of them up at least.
“The winner also gets a months worth supply of whatever dish they want as a reward... for free.”
Upon finishing her proposition, within a blink of an eye, Root soared up in the air and started to fly towards his first destination, leaving Chen behind.
After a few seconds, the Bakeneko blinked a few times and looked star stricken before finally realizing what had just occurred, and not a moment later she yelled out towards Root, “Nyaaahh Root get back here!” she stomped on the ground like a needy child, and with that, the Cat Youkai levitated up in the air impatiently before flying off, leaving both Yukari and Ran on the ground that they were just standing on not too long ago.
Yukari kept watch of the direction that both Root and Chen flew off to. The morning due stuck onto her skin, and the humid air around her felt like tightening. “Perhaps this will help strengthen their relationship. I just hope that things go smoothly for them. Especially since Root has never...” Yukari kept watch of Root and Chen's direction before being awakened from her deep thinking by Ran.
“Yukari-sama, is it finally time?” the Kitsune slowly approached from behind.
Yukari looked back at Ran with a stern frown, having not been able to complete her thoughts, “Yes Ran, let us commence our Investigation of the "Hakurei Barrier".
The Hakurei Barrier, the Barrier that separates Gensokyo from the Outside World. The Barrier that keeps its Youkai, Gods, Humans, safe from being forgotten.
But among its inhabitants, among the Youkai, among The Gensokyo in which the Gods Loved. A threat like no other was approaching. A threat that could end all life, and now.
It was only a matter of time before our Young Warrior would have to go against this fateful enemy.
