Chapter 1: Hypnosis

Summary:

Nobody will catch me at SOLDIER's area, right?
...
Fuck

Notes:

I hope you’ll enjoy this little fic! I don’t know how long it’ll be or how intensive the plot will be but I am basing this on my favourite boy group SHINee. Kinda suiting since my Mado Magi girl groups are based on my favourite girl groups f(x) and Girls’ Generation. The amount of sass I’m writing for Cloud inner dialogue is so much fun! Also, Genesis might or might not be my "bias".

Chapter Text

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

“Protect your voice before tomorrow! Don’t scream and drink plenty of water!” The vocal coach has said.

“I’m certain Cloud's voice is very safe,” one trainee said. The rest of the students were snickering. They were pointing out the fact he didn’t sing today. Cloud rolled his eyes. He was excellent at pretending that he didn’t care. Whether it was genuine is a different story.

He waited for them to leave. Then he did the same. He didn’t call for them to realise he’s a sensitive cunt. The coach let a breath escape. Still, she didn’t say a word. For that, Cloud was thankful. He fled from the line and the gossip. He quit long ago to seek a practice room. There were not enough areas to train.

The areas that were allowed for training were long gone. Cloud wasn't close to the commotion of the other cadets. But Cloud didn’t pay attention. He required a private place to focus. Cloud was so long in the business; he learned that at this point of the year, the debut superstars were so active at music programs, they wouldn’t get back until midnight. He wouldn’t get captured, he was great at vanishing from directors. Hazardous for his career, but it was worth the risk.

He wasn’t certain what became first, the other trainees detesting him, or he was despising them. He couldn’t tolerate how boisterous they were. They felt cocky from being taught at the leading entertainment corporation in the nation. They believed the world was in their grasp. After four years of training, Cloud realised it was far from reality. Until you debut, you’re a nobody but a waste of time and resources and when you won’t debut, it’ll be a heck of distress to pay off the bill you have for the institution.

The other novices chose it as an amusement and a stress relief to snicker at him, calling him a female face, and saying that without his dancing techniques, Shinra would’ve given up on him for his tone-deaf voice. He disliked believing they were correct. Cloud looked overly feminine for the beautiful ideal, and he avoided singing in rehearsals long ago because he was reluctant to the laughter and the voice coach’s dissatisfaction.

“Female face, don’t be rude, provide some of your weight to the ones lacking,” one apprentice had said before Cloud had got up onto the scale. It had been horrible, but he hadn’t given them the satisfaction of seeing him react. He didn’t eat well for months and he was way below the maximum weight he can be. But it still upset him very much. He told himself they were envious of his body. But it didn’t help, it was still painful. He just fluttered in silence, wishing he gained nothing.

The monthly evaluation is taking place tomorrow. It was to maintain a record of the trainees’ developments; the company claimed. But Cloud knew better. It was to determine who was worthy to stay and debut in the next hit thing. Cloud wished he wouldn’t be the one Shinra kicked. The trainees picked the practice spaces up. While Cloud reached into the idol practice place to ready his dancing techniques and lack of vocal abilities for tomorrow. He did it every month before the examination since his second year. Shinra never detected him and he didn’t plan to be spotted today.

The rule for idols is to unfailingly listen to Shinra’s rules. If an apprentice couldn’t manage that, they’d better be out. They require the company to shine. Occasionally, Cloud overlooked that his dream was to sing on stage, not to be a pawn in the association’s chains.

He observed apprentices getting kicked out of Shinra for the slimmest of reasons over and over. He used to dread it, but he was numb now. Shinra didn’t cherish their trainees. They solely cared about greed. It was a shame that he required their selfish arse to establish his glittering dream. The quicker you realise you’re just a profit, the easier it becomes. He wasn’t a human being to Shinra; he had the potential to generate more wealth and influence.

Cloud took out his phone, thinking if he should turn on the video of him playing the song he’s going to perform tomorrow or just the song. He couldn’t stand watching and hearing himself. He was sickening. The instructor had to inspect him for three hours. What a pity. Without thinking, he played the instrumental.

It was a SOLDIER song that came out six years ago. SOLDIER was the purpose he was in Shinra. He has been their biggest fan since their debut, and he desperately wished to be like them. Particularly Sephiroth, Shinra’s golden boy. He memorised all SOLDIER’s choreography and possessed all their merch back in his hometown. He was a fanboy, disgusting.

He danced the first motion of the song. He did it naturally and with ease. The dance was second nature, like breathing to him. Believing nobody could overhear, he allowed his insecurities to be lenient and sang along to the motions, coming to be aware of the performance. Fraction of him understood he was fine and sang in tune. He felt like he was the worst vocalist.

The bullying swallowed him slowly. It will take a while to heal from their remarks. It was like scars left on his soul. If you could look at emotional pain, would humans look at it with seriousness? His rationale couldn’t oppose his vulnerabilities. His brain just left him too puzzled and upset. He didn’t have space in his schedule to battle his despair, though. It was all about singing and dancing. Perhaps that’s why so many celebrities attempted suicide. Mental health wasn’t relevant in this cruel industry.

Nevertheless, he felt ready. He just requires avoiding the cameras, lighting, and thousands of crew and trainees who contemplate his every motion. Perhaps he should sing the song another round. He didn’t seek to strain his voice just to relieve his restlessness. He learned it won’t end properly if he’ll show up tomorrow and he won’t be able to belt out well because his voice was too drained.

He then gazed at the piano in the space. He reminisced about his home. Cloud has played the piano religiously since he was two, crouching on his mom’s lap and thumping the keyboard. One of the best piano teachers in the nation instructed him on the piano at Shinra. However, He missed learning from his mother back at Nibelheim.

Nibelheim was a modest mountain town. The residents fixated on their duties. They didn’t have the leisure of hobbies or interests. His mother was different though, she was an intellectual individual. She was familiar with the piano. Cloud wasn’t certain how, but it didn’t matter. His mom handed over to him his passion for music and the ability to play the piano. For that, Cloud was forever grateful.

Cloud settled in front of the piano, unlocking it and playing the chords he was so familiar with. Hypnosis. Occasionally Cloud forgot they accepted him into Shinra for his singing abilities, while millions dreamed of being in his circumstance. The CEO himself confessed he saw potential in him and said his voice was sweet. He permitted himself to get lost in the piano melodies. He sang as if he were solitary in the world.

Sometimes, Cloud wondered if he should repent his choice. He could’ve been a normal teenager: learning at school without rushing to the agency to train, going to university, getting a job. Cloud couldn’t be imagining doing anything else but playing the piano and singing. His decision was worth it, despite how tiring and depressing it was most of the time. His desire navigated his way. He followed his heart. So Cloud won’t regret a thing.

He didn’t hear the steps that were getting audible and barely noticed the faint cackles someone attempted to hold in. He didn’t give attention to anything at all until the other entity spoke. “So you’re the one who’s been using our practice space for the last three years. Didn’t foresee a law-breaker maintaining such a lovely voice.” fuck.

It startled Cloud, hitting the wrong key, and instantly halted singing. He was certain the piano would’ve shut on him from how abrupt his actions were. He turned around to notice the main vocalist of SOLDIER. As if he didn’t recognise him from his voice. Fuck , he was more handsome than what those fan sites made him look like. He was more attractive than at those fan meetings. He definitely didn’t go continually. Fuck , Zack Fair, the main vocalist of SOLDIER, was speaking to him ! He declared his voice was beautiful! His . He must be dreaming.

“M-M-Main V-V-Vocal-” Embarrassing .

“Yeah, that’s me. But I think it’s more crucial to know why you’ve been practising in our training studio than-” Cloud nearly knocked over from his stall. He thought his life was over, but he felt strong, muscular arms behind him. Humiliating, his initial moment interacting with his celebrity has to be taken from a Wattpad fanfic. Touché.

“Are you okay, buddy? Sorry for startling you,” Zack Fair asked forgiveness from him when he was offending.

“Zack the puppy apologised to me,” Cloud murmured, flushing from embarrassment.

“Yeah, a fan nearly breaking their head usually occurs to Genesis.” Fuck , did he speak out loud?! How did he hope the ground would gulp him alive just about now?

Cloud suddenly lost his capacity to talk. Zack was tall and athletic, while they blundered Cloud for a girl in the drugstore. Somehow, the saleswoman persuaded him to pay for two lipsticks and a blush he didn’t need.

“We should leave before the boys will be back from the year-end award. You’re too beautiful to get expelled for getting into a prohibited area.” It has to be a fantasy. No likelihood that Zack the puppy would name him attractive when he was a bandmate of Genesis.

Zack reached out a hand. Cloud was too dumbfounded to comprehend that Zack directed it at him. So, a beat too late, he squeezed Zack’s hand. It was the closest he’ll ever get to holding Sephiroth’s hand. Cloud inanely fanboyed. Cloud stood up without being distracted. He let go of his hand when they left.

Cloud was uneasy. He had never been this close to a SOLDIER’s member. His younger self expected that if it ever took place, he'd see Zack first. There was a difference between wondering and a thing occurring, though.

Instead of bringing him toward the trainee areas, Zack stepped further into the idol’s place. Cloud shifted his head. Perhaps the other took the wrong turn. Accident happens. He didn’t need to break more policies, though, so Cloud mentioned it.

“Um, the trainees’ dorms are on the other side.” — “I don’t feel like letting you go yet. Besides, I’m still interested in why you’re using our practice room.” Zack winked. Cocky .

Cloud felt odd stepping further into the idol’s area. He felt like he didn’t belong there, yet he wished for the glamour that attained with being Shinra’s superstar. What if reality wasn’t as shiny? If training felt like being groomed by the organisation, wouldn’t it feel worse as an established artist?

What about bullying? The others won’t turn into saints when they debut with him. Will he have to suck it up for the business? Will Shinra ever care unless it’ll come out to the public? Cloud couldn’t imagine enduring for seven extra years. The last four were harsh. They were just the beginning, though.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Zack cut him off from his emotions. He didn’t believe SOLDIER’s main vocalist would be eager for him, a trainee. Yet, it didn't shock him. It was constantly spreading on Twitter how friendly the puppy was and how he effortlessly befriended celebrities and staff alike.

“It’s just intriguing to be here. I thought I’ll have to debut first before walking to the idol’s dorm,” Cloud shrugged.
“What’s the difference then sneaking into the rehearsal rooms?” — “I would always come back before midnight.” More of a joke than anything. He would always come to his dorm.

Hoping to someday sing in the spotlight. But as the years went by, he realised he’ll go home empty-handed. Only the fairest could debut, and he wasn’t the best. It didn’t disturb him though, he just felt hollow. Perhaps he accepted his future as a pussy loser.

“Is midnight the current way to say 4 AM?” — “Touché,” Cloud let out before he could halt himself. Fuck , did he say that to his elder?

“Sorry–” the puppy’s laughter cut him.

“Why are you sorry?” — “You’re my senior and I’ve been making a mess of myself since the first moment I’ve seen you.”

“There’s no need for formalities! Aren’t bringing you to my dorms, making us friends already?” Zack grinned widely. Cloud was envious of how simple it was for Zack to laugh. While Cloud had to rehearse hours to have the perfect angled idol smile. As if they did not recognise Sephiroth as the ice prince and his charms for scarcely chuckling. He was familiar that he requires seven years of experience plus seven years of training to correlate himself to Sephiroth, but still.

“Geez, the forums are right.” Cloud couldn’t help himself but chuckle a little. “Right about what?”

“About you befriending anyone.” He attempted to smile back. He looked like a tomato. Geez, he was a tragedy. Perhaps he could get a sponsorship for a tomato sauce if he’s fortunate.

Zack cracked up. It was music for his ears. It wouldn’t amaze him if Zack came into the audition room, laughed, and passed. If he didn’t know Zack’s audition song.

“I love your laugh,” Zack said.

“Tell that to my mentor. Perhaps she’ll cut me some classes.”

“You’re funny too!” Cloud wasn’t fooling around, but if he wasn’t silly, people wouldn’t snicker at him every time he stepped into the studio.

“Shouldn’t you ask for my name before asking for my hand?” Cloud shrugged. He speculated he felt comfortable around Zack if he quit stuttering so much.

“I didn’t ask?” — “No.” Zack was often the oblivious one on variety shows. Charming and energetic, like a dog. He always guessed the variety shows were heavily fictitious and scripted. He assumed SOLDIER was a bunch of talented dorks who were low-key, high-key gay for each other.

“Cloud Strife,” Cloud introduced himself, coming to be a tomato again. Humiliating. It’s not like it was the first time saying his name to SOLDIER.

(“Who should I sign to?” — “Cloud.”

“To Cloud, the fluffy Chocobo: Thank you for listening to our comeback and supporting us for all those years. Please stay warm and buy yourself a good moisturiser instead of our concert tickets.)

“Nice to meet you Cloud, your personality is soft like a Cloud!” Zack winked. Sometimes, Cloud overlooked that Zack is a celebrity.

“Are you trying to flirt with me?” Like at this moment. The ground. Can you please swallow me now?

“I would have, beautiful, but both of us have a dating ban.” Why did Zack go along with his stupidity?

Cloud was too stunned to say something. He just craved this dating conversation to be over with. What was worse? Genesis calling him a fluffy Chocobo for seven years on fan meetings or Zack naming his personality soft?

“We’re here!” Zack declared as they came across the vastest quarter he has ever seen. The privilege of being Shinra’s top stars, he concluded. He has seen some fragments of their residence on reality TV or their YouTube channel. It differed from viewing the whole thing in front of his eyes, though. It looked more glamorous and massive. Cloud, watching it on the screen, gave the illusion of being scripted. It couldn’t be claimed about real-life sight.

He felt his body becoming heavy. He overlooked he’s been up since 5 AM for training and the only thing he consumed was instant ramen. The cash for merch didn’t come from anywhere. He shoved the sensation aside. He was used to feeling burnt out. It could be that he just didn’t care anymore.

He came after Zack into the apartment. It felt like those homes he’s watched on TV. The ones that were worth millions of bucks. He would bet all his cash that Genesis styled that house, from how extra and stylish the guy was.

“Why didn’t you perform at the end of the year's awards?” Cloud asked. Zack was very diligent compared to his dorky character. So it surprised him that Zack didn’t deliver today.

“I had a migraine today. Angeal said it’s from overworking and urged me to stay today. The dude can be persistent sometimes! Why do you constantly train in our practice area?”

Cloud wasn’t sure how to respond to it. He had several reasons, but why should he tell such a large star? But Zack asserted they were buddies, right? So he could explain to him.

“I just need to rehearse alone. The idol’s training spaces are often available at this hour, and I’m uneasy practising with the other students glaring at me,” more that it drives him crazy. The fraction of laughter and taunting he was receiving daily. He didn’t want to be a cunt and complain about bullying.

Who could concentrate on doing their best in the fear of people staring and laughing? Cloud couldn’t manage that. His head was enough cruel, he didn’t require a third party as well.

“Aww, I understand, I often felt worried practising with others when I was a trainee too!”

“You were?” — “yeah! Luckily Angeal took me under his wings and we exercised together! It felt easier to sing and dance in front of someone who didn’t judge.”

It amazed Cloud. He didn’t believe a celebrity, his idol, would relate to him. Sometimes he passed over that his idols tutored at the exact company as him. He constantly evaluated them as gods. They were the reason he was still breathing. They were everything but human for Cloud. Perhaps he was the nasty one and SOLDIER’s members were human, though.

“I have an idea! I could tutor you! It’ll boost your confidence around others!” What?

“Aren’t you having an active stardom life to assist a random trainee who would never debut?” Conceivably, it sounded rude, but that’s how he felt. Cloud couldn't debut because of the rivalry. He wasn’t gifted nor special, like SOLDIER.  Still, perhaps he should’ve just kept his gloomy thoughts to himself. He didn’t wish to appear ungrateful.

“I saw potential in you when you sang Hypnosis. It’s the best cover for the ballad I ever listened to. I believe in you, so I want to encourage you to debut. Even if my schedule is hectic, I’ll find time to help you,” Cloud expected to say something, to show his gratitude to Zack, who acknowledged him. For a SOLDIER member to believe in him! But the heftiness he felt earlier came back sharper. His limbs trembled as his vision came to be blurry. He dropped, but felt a powerful arm on his back.

“Wow, easy buddy.”

His vision became jet black.

Chapter 2: Replay

Summary:

Genesis, why are you putting an aloe vera facemask on a stranger?
Because I'm out of the citrus one.
... It's not what I meant...

Notes:

Writing shy fanboy Cloud is such a pleasure! :) I might have written this fic listening to chill-pop, I'm really obsessed with LeeHi and Zico recently. Hopefully, I'll finish this fic before I enrol in college because then I won't be able to finish it at all, LOL. Enjoy! It's super recommended if you'll listen to this playlist while reading! To set the vibe. I'll add more songs as I proceed in writing.

Cloud raised to the stage. The curtain didn't move because the lights were off. Cloud felt butterflies across his belly. He was eager to see his fans and sing for them, to prove to them what he was capable of. The public received his new song well, getting 20 million views just in 24 hours. The highest number of views for a debut in one day. Cloud had his hair cut short. It had been his first haircut in four years. He couldn’t afford a haircut during his years of training at Shinra. Still, it didn’t matter now. That loner and the weak trainee was gone. He was a star today, the best of the best. He’ll bury that insecure person and gleam.

He wore the iconic outfit he put on in the MV, a black leather parka, tight jeans and the lightest of makeup. Just as he concluded adoring himself, the lights turned on. The screens opened. He led closer to the edge of the stage. The song started, and he sang and danced. The crowd hailed for him. They craved more and more from him. He’ll give them what they yearn for.

He concluded the song; the audience applauded. Suddenly, the lights turned black. He was still on the stage, though. A spotlight activated the front row. Sephiroth sat there.“Stop, please let me go,” he urged through tears. Cloud never heard the person begging. He caught Sephiroth trying to leave his chair, but he couldn’t. He was captured and tied to it.

“You can’t escape. We demand you here,” Cloud believed he stated, but his speech sounded demonic. What was transpiring? Stop. Cloud’s pulse jumped. Let me go. His body moved and danced on his own. Stop. He spotted threads attaching to his body, like a marionette. Let me go. They looked like electrical cables. Just let me go. His body had rips and bloodstained gashes everywhere, but his mastermind didn’t plan to make him pause.

Please stop. His idol was breaking down. He struggled to not look at the stage, but they paralysed him to it. Free me. Cloud recognised he couldn’t move willingly as well. Why can't you let me leave? Cloud stole a peek at who controlled him above the stage. Stop! It was a man with black long hair and specs. Just stop!! Cloud recognised him as the dearest director to the CEO. It hurts!! Please stop!! Cloud couldn’t recall his name for the life of him, though.

“Please, just let me be dead!!!” A cry left Cloud’s mouth. He crumpled onto the stage as the world went black. The howl wasn’t his, though.

It belonged to Shinra’s golden boy, Sephiroth.

There was a refreshing and clear sensation on Cloud’s face. He too picked up faint speaking from the television. Strange, there wasn’t any television in the dorms. Further, Shinra didn’t allow any electronics. He could call his parent once a week for 30 minutes. He was used to his roommates painting things on his face with toothpaste. Still, the sensation wasn’t minty. He too didn’t detect mint.

He opened his eyes. His uncertainties were correct, it wasn’t his bedroom. Suddenly, he looked back at what went on. Crap, he fainted at SOLDIER’s residence.

“Morning sleeping beauty.” He recognised that teasing tone of Genesis. He bolted, before glancing at the visual of SOLDIER. Genesis’s side profile was splendid. No surprise Genesis’s photo teasers were from the side. There was no blemish on him.

Genesis had a face mask on his face as he watched Drag Race on the TV.

It has to be a dream, Right? Perhaps a VR simulation of a cosmetic brand. No chance he would lie in the same lounge as Genesis

Cloud asked, “What is on my face?”

“It’s Gen and his antics, don’t notice him,” It was Angeal, SOLDIER’s leader. Or how fans called him, mommy Angeal. Cloud picked up his voice from behind him. Can a VR trigger sensors that accurately?

“It’s not a stunt! This Chocobo protests to put moisturiser on! His skin is DRY! Don’t pull out that mask,” Genesis said.

“Genesis.” — “Angeeeeal.”

Whoever created this VR was excellent at serving the fan service. How does he lift off those glasses? He has an evaluation tomorrow.

“Who wishes to put a face mask on someone without their approval?” Cloud asked.

“Since when do you require approval to take care of someone’s skin?” Genesis smirked. At least Cloud assumed he was smirking.

“I could report you for sexual harassment,” Cloud sneered. He was sleep-deprived to watch for his language.

“Good luck triumphing against Shinra’s visual,” Genesis mocked back. Right, Cloud forgot the world wasn’t equal. Only the powerful could win. Here, the wealthy.

Angeal exhaled. Cloud suspected he didn’t know how to handle this situation.

“Gen, do you have to be chaotic at 2 AM?” Angeal said.

“What do you hope from the dude who’s watching Drag Race season one episode eight at 2 AM?” Cloud asked, shrugging.

“You like Drag Race, Chocobo?” Genesis beamed at Cloud. The blonde blushed. The fellow was hot even with a face mask.

Cloud shifted his head, dumbfounded by the spotlight. Fuck , he was laughing around with Genesis Rhapsodos .

“I checked out a few episodes when they were broadcast on TV and I had nothing better to look at,” Cloud murmured, struggling to act calm.

“A person who just “watched a few episodes” wouldn’t know the episode number. It’s like an individual quoting Loveless and declaring they just read it once. I recognise a fan when I meet one.” Cloud was screwed .

“Who’s your favourite–” — “anyhow, what would you feel like eating, Cloud?” Angeal cut Genesis off. It consistently took–aback Cloud that Angeal memorised his name. But Cloud was at every fan meeting, so almost all SOLDIER members recognised him already.

“Oh, I’m fine, I’m on a diet.” Cloud couldn’t compromise his weight when monthly evolution happened tomorrow. They would look at his weight every day, making sure his weight was below 65KG. Shinra put more emphasis on his weight on evolution day.

“You’re all stick and bones! Tell me you’re at least eating vegetables…” Angeal rubbed the bridge of his nose. It was nice how he paid attention to a random trainee. Cloud couldn’t reveal that his diet was just instant meals. Bad. He knows.

He didn’t wish others to know that he detested eating. It brought him stress and reminders of the never-ending harassment. He sought to avoid it as often as he could. He has received a money allowance from Shinra to pay for his daily nourishments, but he kept it for the important things. Cloud saved for SOLDIER’s merch and hygienic and wash products.

“Your skin won’t shine if you won’t eat well and sleep well,” Genesis spoke. Cloud appreciated their worry for him.

“Fine. I can’t pass 65KG, much as 65.1 and it’s game over for me,” Cloud concluded. He saw how headstrong those two were. He’d rather evade a war he couldn’t overcome.

“Count on me, okay? I have 11 years of experience in Shinra,” Angeal requested. Cloud couldn’t doubt him.

“10 minutes passed already? Alright Chocobo, time to take off your mask,” Genesis heaved, drawing closer to Cloud. Cloud blushed. He was awful with people breaking his bounds. Much worse, with contact. Cloud bent his face by instinct. He was speechless. It’s not like Genesis will push his lips onto him or something.

“May I?” Genesis asked, surprisingly tender. Cloud blushed a rosy red. The full scene was uncomfortable as hell. Still, Cloud timidly nodded. He couldn’t communicate.

Genesis put his hand on Cloud’s face. Lightly wiping out the rest of the face mask. Cloud brought his awareness to Genesis's manicure instead of his quick pulse. Only Genesis could pull wine red without looking outrageous.

“You need to dab your face lightly to make sure the cream gets in your skin,” Genesis said. Uses his palm to gently wipe Cloud’s face. It stunned Cloud, blushing and innerly squealing. Genesis was overly close to his face for comfort. Can the VR simulation finish now?

“There, done,” Genesis came back to his position on the sofa. How could he be cool about this?! In his wildest dreams, Cloud never imagined Genesis would touch his face for the excuse of a skincare routine .

Cloud observed Genesis doing the same for himself. His heart almost took off from his chest. No surprise the fellow was visual. He was attractive and heart fluttering. He turned his face to the TV. Genesis made Drag Race sound straight . And that’s a lot.

“What the fuck…” Left Cloud’s mouth before he could much regret it. He buried his face in his palms. He won’t admit his face was unusually soft.

“Yes, what the fuck? Why didn’t you apply an ointment until today? Dear Goddess,” Genesis said.

“Sorry–” — “don’t apologise to me, apologise to your poor dry face!” Cloud wasn’t sure if Genesis was theatrical or if it was just an act. Cloud ever regarded SOILDER’s fashionista as a theatre kid.  Cloud could’ve told Genesis he didn’t have enough cash for skincare, but both of them know it’s a lie. He just couldn’t pass up on SOLDIER’s items. SOLDIER was too important for him.

“Gen, we had enough of your dramas behind-the-scenes today,” Angeal said.

“I’m not taking off my heels even if the Goddess will order me! I will not spread harmful masculinity. Don’t care if it kills SOLDIER’s perception or whatever crap Shinra markets!” Cloud innerly chuckled. Cloud yearned he could have guts like Genesis against the business’s toxic beauty norm.

“Do you have to be a diva? It’ll bite you back in either…” Angeal sighed.

“It wasn’t me being a diva, though! Cloud, tell him!” Why did he engage Cloud?

“It’s none of my business,” Cloud shrugged.

“I saw how you almost fell laughing there.” Was Genesis that proper with reading, or did his mask slip?

“I did not,” Cloud refused.

“I’m a member of a boy group with Sephiroth. I recognise an inner laugh when I see one,” Genesis answered, smirking.

“I just find it interesting. That a superstar criticises management just like an apprentice,” Cloud responded. He ever assumed the hatred will die once you’ll debut. But just as the organisation gets more ravenous when you make it, so are the celebs.

“Shinra doesn't become great when you’re making it. The issues just become… Different…” Genesis said, becoming hesitant.

“Poetic,” Cloud deadpanned. Did he point out he was sleep-deprived?

“I know, right? I could write Loveless’s last act.”

“Shinra could carry out our schedule better without making us overworked,” Angeal murmured.

“We’re not in front of a reporter. You don’t have to say it nicely,” Genesis glanced at Angeal. Cloud could detect the slimmest of frowns.

“We have a companion here, Gen,” Angeal said. Cloud gulped. He was an intruder , he could pick it up from Angeal’s manner. It’s not like he’ll spread rumours. He didn’t have access to electronics. Besides, the other students didn’t like him.

Cloud remained in silence. He thought of leaving for a public phone and calling his mom. His life became bizarre by the minute. But he didn’t wish to bother her, so he just told her beautiful lies. She didn’t have his lies; he was aware of that.

“Angeal didn’t mean it that way. He just doesn’t appreciate troubling others, notably his fans. Even for us, it takes a lot to break him out of his shell,” Genesis said, winking as if it’s a secret between them. Cloud didn’t appreciate being read. He’d rather be the clichéd mysterious cool male. Not a tomato sauce model .

“I apologise for any offence. I’m delighted you’re here. It’s been a while just being the four of us,” Angeal brought a plate to Cloud. It had a salad with an egg on it. Healthier and more filling than his conventional meal.

“Where’s Vincent?” Cloud asked, since SOLDIER was a quintet, it was odd Angeal only mentioned four members.

“The goddess knows. The dude just comes and goes whenever he wishes,” Genesis said. Cloud realised how much he didn’t know about SOLDIER’s bond, despite assuming he does. The parasocial relationship was genuine.

Cloud sighed. Realising it’s the three of them in the living room. Well, Zack was sick, affirming what he had revealed previously. So Cloud expected he was resting.

“Why aren’t you guys going to rest? It’s 2 AM,” Cloud asked, hoping it didn’t appear as nosy. It was none of his business, after all.

“We’re waiting for Sephiroth,” the two said. Cloud’s eyes widened. Why did Sephiroth have a schedule at 2 AM?! He detected Angeal’s face tensing up. He looked hesitant if he should hold in his concerns.

“Shinra’s golden boy almost fainted in the truck, yet Shinra determines it’s an excellent time to send him for recording! As if making cash from Sephiroth’s solo is more necessary than his well-being!” Genesis uttered. Dang, he rubbed a delicate spot.

Cloud recalled his nightmare from beforehand. Perhaps it was connected to Sephiroth’s intensive schedule. He wasn’t a spiritualist, so Cloud interpreted it as coincidence and stress. Besides, why would Sephiroth talk about death when he was the biggest celebrity in Midgar? Cloud coped with those thoughts because of his fatigue and solitude. Sephiroth had no reason. It was his head messing with his emotions.

“Cloud, don’t tell no one about it, okay?” Angeal pleaded.

“I won’t. I don’t have a way, anyhow. We’re not granted electronics at Shinra and… Well… Let’s just say the other boys and I aren’t getting along very well,” Cloud shrugged. Time for him to save money for his favourite member’s solo. He desires all the photo cards of each version.

“Don’t you ambush a smartphone to your dorms?” Genesis asked.

“I’d rather not compromise my stay in Shinra for a few minutes extra to speak with my mom. Thank you very much.” Cloud felt silly for sounding like a pussy. He was almost 19, not childlike, full of dreams, a 14-year-old youth who joined Shinra.

“But you can endanger it by entering our areas?”

“Hypocritical, I know,” Cloud fixated on his salad. He preferred to finish his meal and get out of their feet. He didn’t want to over-welcome his stay.

“Gen, not everyone is devoted to Instagram like you,” Angeal said.

“I’m not addicted. I’m keeping up with our fans!” Cloud almost ends up suffocating on his salad.

“Back when you were a trainee?” Angeal slammed his face.

“You know how I’ve established my career, Angeal! You even helped me take my iconic pre-debut pictures for my Instagram account!” Genesis pouted.

Cloud was feeling heavy again. Essentially warm inside. All the chit chat and food made him feel belonged. He never felt that back home. Since it was just him and his mom, the residence appeared silent and empty. Halfway through, he felt too full and woozy to complete the meal. The last thing he heard was chuckles as he landed on a soft lap. He felt a hand patting his head as he drifted to sleep.

He looked back at when SOLDIER first got out. He was around 12 and they debuted with Replay. A retro techno synth music. Cloud fell in love. Their harmonies and dance were absorbing him. It was a girls’ thing to admire boy groups, but Cloud didn’t pay attention. They tormented him in his classroom, anyway. It was reassuring to get home, listen to them on YouTube, and chat with other fans in forums. SOLDIER offered him a place of pleasure. A reason to live.

When SOLDIER showed up in Nibelheim, his mother purchased him a ticket, knowing how much her son adored them. It was a night he couldn’t forget. Looking at the quintet dazzling on stage as he chanted his lungs out and swung his light stick. At the show, he didn't feel like Cloud Strife. The youth seemed a part of a group, SOLDIER’s fandom.

He never seemed a part of something before. It was ever just himself and his loneliness. SOLDIER’s fandom didn’t pay attention to who he is, who he was born to, his views or passions. They only cared that he loved SOLDIER’s music. He desired people like it: individuals will accept him as he is.

Cloud realised he didn’t wish to be a piano musician and dancer in the comfort of his home anymore. He aspired to sing and dance. So he could encourage others just how SOLDIER supported him. After two years of pondering, he auditioned for Shinra. He continued that long because he kept the hope SOLDIER showed him. Shinra won’t take that eagerness to shine on stage away from him. No matter how brutal reality is.

Serenading Tell Me What To Do tomorrow suited his aspirations. He’ll give his all into the performance. The trainee will declare his gratitude to the group through singing and dancing. He’s going to cry no more.

Cloud awakened again to the vibrations of his wristwatch. It was 5 AM. He needs to be at the practice area at 6 AM and reach the auditorium for the assessment at 6:30 AM. Cloud was nervous. It was so nerve-wracking he didn’t appear fatigued from sleeping three hours.

There was something odd in his hair. One cross with his palm and he realised it was a hair curler. Genesis antics, he suspected. He took them out as he sighted an outfit around his size on the bed he was lying down on. He couldn't afford it for himself. However, he appreciated the kindness of Angeal and Genesis.

He stood up, picked up the clothes, and left. The room he rested in was empty, as if nobody inhabited it. He paid it no mind, though. He had an examination today.

The flat SOLDIER lives in was vast. More than he noted when he originally arrived. After moving his way down the corridor, he found the toilet. He set his grip on the doorknob before pausing in his tracks. He pulled his palms over his mouth. Sephiroth was in the shower, elegantly loosening his tedious, braided hairstyle. Cloud’s heart was thumping. He was losing it. It’s not his place to look at that scene.

He looked back at his nightmare, how defenceless Sephiroth had been in it. His pulse was raising and terror got in his veins. He was frightened of harming the man who provided him with joy and hope. He was reluctant to disturb the other's peace.

Before Sephiroth could identify him, Cloud disappeared. Cloud was positive he sighted a public toilet on the way. Cloud will dress up there. Next, go to his schedule and ignore it all. He has never met SOLDIER; has never been to SOLDIER’s headquarters; has never···

Cloud entered the public bathroom. He sighed in relief and gathered his burdens. No SOLDIER was in sight. He then realised why Sephiroth was up. Shinra’s stars must attend their monthly assessment. This means, fuck , SOLDIER might see him make chaos off of himself. He grew sickened. Faced with his idols, he made an idiot of himself!

Before crawling in front of the stall, he arranged the clothes away. The man puked all he could. If only his anxiety could pass, like his vomit. Marionette. He was a marionette. A marionette in Shinra’s palms···

“Didn’t think someone would puke because of me.” Shit. Couldn’t god slim him from the gay panic once?! Cloud felt Sephiroth caressing his back in circles in hesitation. Cloud despised how good it felt.

“Genesis laughed at me for costing someone to feel anxious just by brushing my hair and Angeal instructed me to search for you and apologise. I’m sorry. Although I don’t quite understand why you were running off. Despite rumours, I don’t bite. It’s more of Genesis’s quirk.” Sephiroth gave an awkward smile. It almost looked “robotic,” but it could be Cloud’s imagination.

Cloud, not grasping what his idol was saying, nodded. He threw up more residues.

“Stay put,” Sephiroth said. Cloud needed to state that it’s not like he can move anywhere. But an extra dose of dread and vomit hit him. He hoped he’ll be able to perform today or else it was game over for him.

Shinra doesn’t grant skipping evaluations, no matter which reason. You’re expected to appear with an IV attached to your veins. That’s how strict they were. There was enough competition, anyhow. So giving up someone will make it easier for all parties involved.

Cloud sat weakly for a period. Until he heard steps stepping from behind him.

“Here,” Sephiroth set a Coke in Cloud's grasp.

“Just drink a sip to get better. You won’t gain too much weight from a sip.” Cloud opened the can, following Sephiroth’s instructions. The lead dancer was right. It made him feel better.

Cloud stood up. Then he handed back the Coke to Sephiroth.

“Sorry for all the mess I’ve cost, for you and the rest of SOLDIER.” Sephiroth grew confused. Yet the silver-haired man nodded.

“Well, if you don’t mind,” Cloud glanced at his outfit. Sephiroth, figuring out what he meant, took his leave. Cloud could dress up and prepare for his test without complications.

Chapter Text

★ 彡 Player Zack 彡 ★

Zack rose around 5 AM. His throat ached and his face was heated. He has had a fever since yesterday. Luckily, his shivering halted. The marvels of sleep. He got up to the immense laughter of Genesis and Angeal scolding.

What went on, did Genesis bully Cloud? The thought itself has got Zack up on his feet. Dread filled his lungs, as he hoped it wasn’t the situation. He showed up in the living room when Sephiroth took his leave. No Cloud was in sight. He exhaled in relief. They did not direct it at the cadet.

He wasn’t even certain why he’s become so aroused. He just got attached to Cloud ever since he listened to his voice. When Cloud opened up to him, he couldn’t help but sympathise. Cloud was like Zack, a relentless youth who would pursue his dream no matter what.

Zack spotted there was plenty of misery and insecurities inside Cloud’s heart. Zack sought to encourage him to feel positive about himself. He was conscious of how harsh the industry was. He didn’t wish for another person to harm themselves because of it. While everyone is cruel in the field, Zack will be the warm mentor.

He wished to follow in the footsteps of Angeal. When he was on the verge of giving up his dream, packing his things. That’s when Angeal stopped him, reassured him, and they trained closely. Because of Angeal, he didn’t repent a thing. Zack’s destiny was to sing, after all.

Angeal broke down to him before when they were still apprentices. He was shivering about losing one of his best friends to suicide. Zack was thankful Angeal trusted him to inform him about it. However, he detected the tinge of Angeal’s words. He was frightened of losing another trainee to the same tragedy. Zack needed to ensure it wouldn't take place. He knows Angeal (himself too) won’t condone him if something dreadful will occur to Cloud.

“Zack, go to bed, you’re still sick,” Angeal instructed. Getting Zack out of his daydream.

“What happened? Why did Seph leave? Why was Gen laughing at Seph?” Zack wouldn’t go to lie down until he’ll know the turmoil he missed. He was uneasy. Cloud was a sensitive person.

“Seph startled the Chocobo by just brushing his hair–Infinite in mystery–”

Zack cut Genesis off, “He intimidated Cloud?! Where is he?!”

Angeal put a hand on Zack’s shoulder, “calm down Zack, it was just a mistake. He seems to admire Seph a lot. Seph is searching for him to apologise. As we know Seph, it presumably puzzled him and didn’t wish to terrify Cloud further.”

Zack breathed easy. He was tensing up, pondering about what Sephiroth could’ve done to his latest friend. He knew Sephiroth wasn’t intimidating, just intense. Yet, Cloud wasn’t. Still, it didn’t convince him matters were okay, that he shouldn’t assist Cloud.

“Hey, you don’t cut me off quoting the Goddess’s words of wisdom without a fight! ” Genesis said and pouted.

“Sorry bud, I couldn’t maintain myself. Angeal, are you certain things are in control?” It troubled Zack. He saw how it dismayed Genesis to not have the attention he required. Regardless, he didn’t say a word. Genesis didn’t wish to go further into Angeal’s bad side. Zack welcomed it. He would’ve kicked Genesis for not taking the situation seriously.

“Yes. Trust me, Zack,” Angeal said, before taking Zack back to his room.

“Sleep. We’ll awaken you before the performance. So you could see your favourite Chocobo live with us.” Angeal’s voice was tender.

“Fine,” Zack said. He learned he couldn’t argue with Angeal. Zack was still unsettled, though. He knew how intense his members were. Especially Genesis and Sephiroth. He appreciated Angeal attempting to calm him down though. Angeal learned how protective and enraged Zack can be sometimes.

“Don’t worry, Gen and Cloud have got along immediately. Seph and Cloud will come around.” Angeal thus left Zack to rest. Zack was relieved Genesis didn’t cost more disorder than necessary. The gentleman was outrageous, even before they debuted. Papers and rumours were passing around about trainee Genesis dating a major star just before they debuted. It was a wreck . Every time Zack asked about it, Genesis would storm off.

( "Shinra… They lied to me… They…" Zack could hear Genesis muttering before running away from the room. Zack heard clicking and fire starting. He hoped it was Genesis going to smoke and not burning Shinra's building down. )

Zack was grateful for the scandal. Who knows if the public would give them the same attention without it? That rumour might’ve been what set off their outstanding career. Zack felt remorseful thinking that way. Since it disturbed Genesis to this day. Angeal would loathe him if he learned how Zack felt.

Zack dozed off again after shutting his brain. His heart fluttered in his chest. He was eager to see Cloud delivering Shinra what he was worth. Cloud had a superstar capability. Cloud was the entire package: gorgeous, captivating voice and incredible dance moves. He just requires to have faith and trust in himself.

“So it’s definite, huh? It’s your last comeback with us…” Zack was in the living area again. He heard Angeal speaking before he gave their fifth member–Vincent–a hug.

“Indeed,” Vincent said in a monochromatic tone. Their “former” main dancer chose to not sign the contract with Shinra after seven years had taken place. Zack had noted that Vincent didn’t have the desire for idol activities anymore. Shinra didn’t devote themself to the fellow and offered him opportunities. It was unfortunate that he wanted to leave.

There was also an unspeakable reason. Vincent appeared uncomfortable around Sephiroth. Zack didn’t believe it was from resentment, but for different reasons, he didn’t know. But he detected how Vincent avoided looking at Sephiroth and never stood beside him on stage. Zack suspected it was regret, but he wasn’t informed of the two ever interacting before the debut. Zack further thought Vincent was a vampire, so his opinion didn’t count.

Zack joked once that Vincent was Sephiroth’s dad, of how much they’re identical in their personalities and mannerism. Vincent didn’t receive it nicely. The joke and reaction puzzled Sephiroth. Zack wasn’t in the relationship loop between Sephiroth and the vampire. Perhaps Vincent bit him and Sephiroth found out he’s gay and hates biting. Who knows?

“We’ll miss you, mate! We’re still buddies no matter where you’ll go! Seven years of friendship didn’t go down the drain!” Zack said. He hugged Vincent too. Zack loved Vincent, even if they weren’t as close as he was with the others. Zack still appreciated him and regarded him as a thoughtful and kind person. Also, Vincent was sassy with Shinra, so that’s a bonus.

“There is no hate, only joy, for you are beloved by the goddess,” Genesis referred to Loveless, hugging their departing member.

Sephiroth stared at them in discomfort. He’s got close to the group hug.

“Zack.”

Sephiroth gradually reached out his arms. He pondered. He lingered for a while until—

“Zack, it’s time to wake up.”

Zack jerked his eyes open. Angeal’s tone and shaking cut his dream in the middle. It was a recollection from a few weeks ago. SOLDIER will be a four-member group. What a shame, at least now they can hold each other without feeling guilty. That’s how Zack thought. He sensed how complicated the love life of the dancer was.

He figured out Vincent didn’t mind it. Vincent was glad for them. Despite that, Zack felt uneasy about displaying affection to his partners around Vincent. He learned the male was single and upset about his former love life. Zack rather not take a risk and rub salt on his scars.

“Zack,” Angeal called him once again.

“I’m up, I’m up. I won’t be late for Cloud just for a few moments of sleep.” A smile emerged from Zack’s lips. Cloud’s performance thrilled him. He overheard him rehearse yesterday and Cloud sounded great. Zack will cheer hard for the blonde, so he’ll feel motivated to do his best.

“Good, dress up quickly. We’ll leave shortly.” Angeal left so Zack could get ready.

“I don’t need to hear that twice!” Zack said, there’s enthusiasm in his tone. Zack shoved his thoughts elsewhere, walking to his wardrobe. He picked jeans and a t-shirt. Zack wasn’t the person to dwell too often on his fashion. He fixated on the important things. Such as music or his social life. Don’t tell Genesis fashion isn’t essential though, it won’t end well.

Entertainers had too many shallow focuses. Such as looks and his personal life. Did people overlook the primary focus of idols is to sing and provide joy? Not to be a picture-perfect human. Perhaps he was part of the issue for not opposing it enough. Was silence worse than acceptance? He wondered.

Sure, some individuals loved to do extra time on their looks (Genesis and Sephiroth). It shouldn’t be a requirement. The audience should regard skill better than good looks. SOLDIER worked hard on their techniques to bring the finest music and concerts. Sometimes, Zack thought their fans didn’t appreciate it enough.

He left his room. His head was a jumble. Maybe it was the cold that made him ponder. Perhaps because SOLDIER didn’t talk casually for a while. They spent so much time together, yet it seemed like they didn’t. Maybe that’s why he got so linked to Cloud. Cloud joked around and chatted with him like he was Zack Fair, not SOLDIER’s Zack. Zack expected to know Cloud on a deeper level. He was fond of the younger. He didn’t feel that since finding his partners. Perhaps it was love at first sight. Zack was the person to be infatuated with.

“I’m ready!” Zack exclaimed.

“I won,” Sephiroth said, smirking at Angeal. Angeal sighed and frowned.

“Won what?” Zack asked.

“We had a bet. If you’ll dress up more rapidly than Genesis apply makeup. Congrats, you’re faster than Gen,” Angeal deadpanned.

“How long has he applied makeup?” Zack rubbed the back of his neck.

“Almost an hour. This guy, I swear to god,” Angeal said. He has grown furious.

“My eyeliner is causing me trouble!!” Genesis called out from the shower.

“Genesis, you’ll put on specs anyway!!” Zack could tell Angeal was done. He hugged Angeal around the waist, giving him a rapid kiss on the cheek. Zack hoped he wasn’t too frantic with his contact. He lingered for his boyfriends’ affection.

“People recognise a flawed eyeliner behind sunglasses, Ange!!” Zack never noticed, but there were many details he didn’t pay attention to.

“He’s just teasing you, Angeal,” Sephiroth said. Angeal hugged both of his guys. Zack was delighted. He yearned for Angeal’s touch for a long time.

“I know,” Angeal said, murmuring. An idea reflected all over his face. The man’s evil scheme intrigued Zack. Angeal can be truly mischievous when desired.

“Gen, we’re leaving. Deal with CEO Shinra yourself,” Angeal said, walking out. Zack sneered. His companion was a genius.

It didn’t take long for Genesis to exit the restroom. Zack couldn’t overlook the smirk forming on Angeal’s face.

“I’m condemning you if my eyeliner will smudge,” Genesis said, frowning.

“I’m blaming you if we’ll be late,” Angeal said, then he gave Genesis a sudden kiss on the lips.

“Excellent, now my lipstick will smudge,” Genesis kissed Angeal back. Zack couldn’t suppress his chuckles.

“Is my lipstick turning into a mess funny for you, puppy?” Genesis asked.

“No, the way you two fight like a married couple is amusing!” Nobody responded, but Zack could affirm he heard Sephiroth giggling. Perhaps Cloud wasn’t the only one who saw him as Zack Fair.

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

Cloud was tense in his chair. The other apprentices were glaring at him. Of course, they stared at him! He wore a Louis Vuitton suit! Cloud didn't come from the nobility. He brought on a cool face, holding his hands closely. The other youths will enjoy seeing him go mad. He was aware they were jealous of him, but that didn’t make him feel any less good.

He didn't get the thrill of knowing the delicacies the bully will make of his outfit. They already had enough material to make fun of him. For example, how he acted like a girl instead of a man. They didn’t need more. Perhaps it was better to perform in his sweatpants and t-shirt than this outfit only Genesis-fucking-Raphsodos could pull.

He waited for the assessment to start. It was the only occasion he saw the girl trainees. Shinra divided them to avoid dating. That didn’t stop the students from trying, though. They exchanged numbers in “creative” ways, passing notes through cookies, sandwiches or tissue papers (they somehow signed the target to sneeze). Cloud has some "gifts" like that. He would savour the sandwich for lunch. When people didn’t look, he would throw the note. Cloud wasn’t interested in girls that way. He wasn't confident if the other guys pranked him. He also didn’t have a phone. Cloud couldn’t call a girl even if he desired it.

He wondered how the girls would be. Shinra never debuted a girl group. They never offered constant recognition to the female cadets. Often than ever, the girls left for entertainment companies that cared about them. He picked up a rumour, though: that Shinra was debuting a girl group as rapidly as possible. They speculated that Genesis’s half-sister is going to debut promptly in a girl group. They were concerned about that missed opportunity, so they put attention on their girls' youths.

Shinra was simply money-hungry. They only cared if something made them prosper. Cloud was unsure if it was Shinra or the world. The world was heartless. Cloud wondered if he was strong enough to survive. He could fake a brave face. However, it didn’t mean he wasn’t hurt.

Cloud will support Genesis’s relative when she’ll break-through. Cloud recognised her in Genesis’s pre-debut pictures. She seemed adorable and cheerful. He could purely assume she was skilled, too.

Shinra’s CEO has got up on the stage. Everyone placed the spotlight on him. Assessment has started. The CEO will say something obvious. T his evaluation is crucial. It’s a major aspect of the next big debut. Blah blah blah. He already gathered it from his coaches. Still, Cloud pretended to bring attention to his CEO. Listening to your elders was, too, part of the principles you can’t break or you're out.

“That’s why I demand you to give your all for today’s judgement. So we could determine for certain who will be the lucky guy.” Cloud started attending when he detected the astonished look on the boys’ faces. What did he miss? Not urgent, he’ll ask afterwards. Cloud felt bad for the girls who worked hard just like him but didn’t get the same opportunities he did. How much will the idol business feed on the double standard? He can’t dwell on it too much or else he won’t give Shinra what they want. He was going to glare.

And so, Cloud awaited firmly for his turn. His tension turned into determination and vice versa. He was finally called to go on stage. He drew a deep breath and went up gracefully towards the stage. All the elegant, calm acts passed when he spotted SOLDIER gazing at him in anticipation. His heart stopped when he cut a glimpse of Zack’s radiant smile. Onto a great opening.

Did he get another opportunity? It’s unfair. He’s not even that skilled.

Cloud took a deep breath, taking out his microphone and marking the soundman to start the instrumental. He regarded the stage as his. Nobody was examining him or viewing him. Cloud devoted himself to the performance. He sang and danced without a care in the world. It was just him, the song and the stage. His voice isn't the best, but who cares? He might have run out of breath from the intense choreography, but it didn’t matter. It was his moment, goddamn it.

He’s so entitled. Look at the manner he walks. He thinks he got Shinra in his grip.

He completed the song, gasping and beaming like an idiot. He has never felt that confident performing. It won’t be his last stage. It won’t be the end of his dream. It was unclear where that confidence got from. Perhaps it’s how his biggest idols viewed him. It was reassuring to have someone who believed in him. Cloud craved to return their faith by putting on an incredible show. He didn't wish to fail SOLDIER. It’s game over for him if that’s the case.

He’s not even that pretty. He got plastic surgery, I can assure you that.

He lingered at SOLDIER for a bit, all of them approved of him in their manner. He grinned much more and gasped. Then, like the cool badasses they were, they took their leave. They were there just for him.

No plastic surgery can fix his character and wrinkles.

He went down the stage. Then he detected the CEO had decided for him to move toward him. Cloud was anxious. Was the performance poor? Is he going to be kicked? He plodded toward the CEO. The CEO marked him to follow him, and Cloud obliged.

Shinra needs to devote itself to a person who possesses true talent and genuine beauty.

“I thought about waiting after we completed the evaluation. But after studying your show, I couldn’t linger any longer,” The CEO started.

Cloud lowered his head in respect and embarrassment, "yes." God, please don't let it be game over.

I wish. I’m sick of looking at his cocky privileged face every day.

“I observed your progress for an incredibly long time, Mr Strife. I’ve been curious about how you develop and I’ve been truly contented with your growth–” but—

“After today’s performance, it has fully assured me you’re the most fitting to be SOLDIER’s fifth member. Congrats, Mr Strife. You’ll debut in a few months.” What?

He should just kill himself. It’ll save us the struggle.

Bewildered, Cloud asked, "When will I sign the contract?" He couldn't believe what he heard. Vincent was out? He's going to debut as a replacement for Vincent? What?

Oh crap, I think we outraged one of his friends.

“You’re a rational man, huh? I always appreciated that. You will receive the contract now. You will have a few days to read the contract. However, I hope you’ll choose to sign,” Shinra said. He smiled. Cloud was innerly panicking. It has to be a dream, right?

Didn’t expect his warranted ass to have genuine allies.

“Thank you for believing in me,” Cloud muttered. Following the CEO to his office in silence. The announcement stunned and thrilled him. How was he chosen to be a member of his favourite boy group?! Can he even stand on Vincent’s shoes?! Cloud will live to find out.

Heh, let’s proceed with this afterwards or else we’ll get burned.

Notes:

I apologise for the short chapters, I'm not good at writing long chapters. There are also not a lot of POVs yet, so I'm finding it difficult to write 4K-6K. I request your forgiveness.
Fun fact! Cloud's bias is Sephiroth while his bias wrecker is Angeal! His OTP is Angeal X Zack and he has an embarrassingly large collection of their fics.

Chapter 4: Believe in Myself

Summary:

Cute girls are my weakness.
...
Especially when they're dating my childhood friend.

Notes:

I'm not sure if the plot is running too fast or too slow, but I'll just carry along with it.
I want to thank everyone for the kudos and comments, it is very appreciated. Your encouragement pushed me to work on this story every day. Writing is my coping mechanism and after going through severe depression and PTSD, it's the only thing that wakes me up in the morning and gives me the motivation to live.
As usual, I recommend listening to this playlist as reading! Enjoy!

Chapter Text

It was raining outside. Cloud was rushing, carrying an umbrella. His hood was all over his face. He kept his contract hidden in his suitcase. He didn’t call for his roommates to tear it apart out of spite. Cloud ran to take out his anxiety and adrenaline. He also needed to talk to his mom. He couldn’t do it for just half an hour. No, he desires more than that to feel reassured.

He dashed through the familiar streets of Midgar, trying to not bump into strangers. The nearest public phone was far away. But it’ll help his dread and muscle. When did he last speak to her without lying? Too long ago. Even when he met her in Nibelheim last Christmas, he kept to himself. His mom was his best friend. How did it all change?

He arrived at the phone stall, gasping for air for a minute. He closed his umbrella, taking out as many pennies as he could. His fingers trembled as he dialled. Cloud suffocated in his tears as the phone rang. He hoped he wouldn’t break down crying hearing his mom’s voice. He felt remorseful for all the secrets and lies. He should’ve done this a long time ago. Cloud was just fearful his mom would force him to pull out. He didn’t want his dream to end because of his miseries.

“Hello? Cloud, is that you, sweetie?” Claudia asked.

“M-ma?” Cloud said. He stammered from his tears. He couldn’t quit weeping, as if he was a little child scratching his knees and not 18 years old. The regret and shame rose further after hearing from his mother. No more mysteries.

“Cloudy? What’s wrong? Why are you sobbing?” Her tone was gentle. He hugged his umbrella with one hand, pretending it was his mom. Through stifled tears, he told her all. His relief at getting to debut, but his fears if he even deserves to stand beside SOLDIER. The worries if it’s wise to debut.

There was a lot on his chest, the loneliness, the bullies, his terrible diet choices, body dysmorphia, insecurity with his voice… He dumped all of it on his mom. Claudia listened to him. She was noticing how his sentences became more coherent. He was calming down. Cloud could see his mother frowning with concern. However, he should tell her everything rather than masking it behind “I’m fine, I’m working hard.”

An hour passed as Cloud rambled it all out. He felt better and a bit more clear-headed. Still, what would his mom do if she were him? He couldn't help but think that. Would his mother quit everything? Is that why she knows the piano but did nothing with it? No, his mom was a persistent bastard. She wouldn’t back out of her ambition, no matter what. He got his stubbornness from her.

“Cloudy, I think you’re just overworked. You spent the last four years preparing for this moment. Have some days to clean your head. Then, decide whether you want to sign. Your mom will always be here for you, whether you’ll be Shinra’s greatest superstar or just my star.” Cloud teared up. His mother was sweet and he didn’t earn that.

“You’re right, I am exhausted, thank you ma.” Cloud will be even more fatigued as an artist if he won’t have a few moments for himself. His health was important too. He should learn to quit putting his health at risk. He proved nothing but being a stubborn dummy. His fans will scold him if they find out about his lifestyle.

“I will come to visit soon. I love you,” Cloud said.

“Love you too, Cloudy.”

It overwhelmed Cloud to hear his mom saying it. He yearned to hear it for a long time. Even though she expressed it every week. This time, it seemed special.

With a heavy heart, he hung up the call. Though he appeared better. He’ll accept those few days for himself. He’s been in Midgar for so long, yet he never explored it. For a period, he could be a normal person. The sky was sunny when he left the stall. He walked back to his dorms.

Say, why are you, my friend?

Cloud was in his room in the afternoon. No one was in sight. Great, the cadets won’t shove him in the toilet. (It transpired one time, but he still fears it.) He gazed at his bed. The suit Genesis borrowed him was resting neatly. His eyes then shifted to his wash baskets. He needs to do laundry, anyway. So he’ll wash that suit and return it to Genesis.

Easy, you’re hot. Your long hair is fine, darling.

He carried the crates and the suit with him towards the communal laundry area. Lucky for him, it was empty. The other trainees were busy with lessons. He’ll be able to save time by using several machines. So, Cloud washed his clothes on auto-pilot. Black, white and coloured wardrobes on each machine.

Don’t call me darling, we’re not dating.

He won’t admit he was picky with his laundry soap, picking the one that smelled like his home. Whenever he pondered about his hometown, he thought about the fresh mountain air mixed with wet grass and lilies of the valley. His clothes scenting like that reassured him. He could dream of strolling barefoot on the grass, hiding behind a tree from the next punch. Even at Nibelheim, he was a weirdo. The boys roughly his age just loved to beat him. The girls were hushed, but Cloud was certain they gossiped about him. Geez, perhaps he was the problem.

We can change that.

Cloud checked the wash instructions on the back of the suit. He followed them one by one. The suit was lying alone on the last machine. He hoped SOLDIER liked lilies, or else he’ll debut solo. Alas, he won’t have to fret about getting abused in the world's presence. He didn’t trust individuals to be kind to him. When they required something, people were kind.

Ugh, stop trolling. I might believe you at some point.

He waited for all the washing machines to finish. His head was racing with thoughts. Will he be able to meet his mom before debuting? Will he get a break on Christmas and New Year to visit her? It’s the smell and phone call that made him miss his mom. It’s been almost a year since he has seen her. Christmas was coming. He’ll look for some gifts on Midgar for her.

There is no hate, only joy, for you are beloved by me.

The choir beeping cut his worries off. He was just being sappy. He took out his clothes, placing them in the dryer. Man, he hoped the waiting would end. He didn’t want to think anymore. So he hummed Hypnosis to himself instead. He didn’t follow the singer who released that song. But this music meant a lot to him. He couldn’t apprehend the desire to hypnotise yourself just to not love someone. He loved nobody that deep.

Wow, you also quoted that poetry to me.

Sure, he had a crush on his childhood friend, Tifa. But he was a lonely, anguished kid, and he didn’t think about her nowadays. Likewise, he had realised long ago he pushed himself to feel for her because she was a girl and she was friendly to him.

THAT POEM?! Precious, if I didn’t cherish you, I would’ve blazed you already.

Back then, he tried hard to prove to himself that he loved girls. Despite spending too long in the locker rooms staring at boys. Not to mention the times he approached bullies so they would smack him on his butt. He was gay, no matter how much he had opposed it.

Thanks. For being my buddy, I mean.

In the end, he fell for Sephiroth like any other female. While the boy trainees stared at girl models’ photoshoots, he browsed through his secretive complete collection of Sephiroth. At least dating bans won’t be a problem for him. He’ll just claim he’s touchy with his friends.

Instead of thanking me, tell me why Shinra’s golden boy is my companion.

Right, he’s debuting as an addition to SOLDIER. Cloud considered they already had their partners (they were attractive). He couldn’t have any relationship with them. Although Cloud low-key desired it. Especially Sephiroth. Perhaps Cloud could meet another gay superstar and date them. What are the odds a gay idol will want him?

I didn’t wish to hurt Angeal’s feelings and tell him you’re awful.

The dryer finished its job. Cloud picked up the clothes. He’ll put his clothes in his suitcase first. Hopefully, he could find a nice bag in his case, so he’ll return the suit delicately. He hoped it’ll be able to express: hey, I’m the new member, please don’t kick my ass. Although kicking it is my kink—Let’s get along well, I’ll try to tone down the sass.

Haha, hilarious.

Cloud shook the thoughts about kinks. He tidied his clothes with care in his suitcase. Then, he found an old shopping bag, entering the suit. Cloud was pretty light with his moves. He didn’t wish to damage something that wasn’t his. He was well-mannered.

Heh. Well, you’re honest and ever tell the truth to my face, even if it hurts.

After a short while, he was finished with his business.

The truth may upset for a brief period, but a lie harms evermore.

His next stop was SOLDIER’s apartment.

I don’t think it’s the untruths that broke me, though.

He got uneasy going to SOLDIER’s residence so soon. He felt out of place coming as he pleased. Cloud steadied himself by excusing it as a rapid stop to return something. He didn’t interrupt their privacy. SOLDIER’s members will be glad to have their expensive outfits back.

What is harming you, then?

What are the odds he will stick around for a while?

My thoughts.

Cloud didn’t assume he was breaking a law by wandering in the idol’s area. He was practically a signed artist with Shinra, after all. He already felt fit. Strange, just yesterday he dreaded being caught by a director. His muscle memory bewildered him. Somehow, he recalled the road to SOLDIER’s residence. He couldn’t describe the process at all with words! Still, his legs knew how to walk.

Cloud didn’t hear a sound from the apartment. His feet have grown cold. Perhaps he shouldn’t trouble them— Ugh, stop being a pussy, Cloud! In a few days, it might be your accommodation!

Cloud knocked once. Then he trembled in place. He should run. They’re not home—

—“Oh, hi! You’ve got a handsome face!” A brunette girl said. Her green eyes glistened as she was in front of Cloud’s face. Her head tilted. She looked akin to Genesis. She must be his half-relative. Beauty ran in the family. Cloud wished he could be born handsome. His mother was gorgeous, but he was too ladylike to be ideal.

“Genesis’s sister?!” Jeez , why did Cloud express it?!

“Yep, that’s me! But I’d prefer it if you called me Aerith! What’s your name?”

Cloud reddened, “Is your brother home?”

Aerith glanced at him, smirking. “I’ll tell you after you say your name!”

“Cloud. Is your brother home?” Cloud eyes shifted to his pack. He’d rather have business over with and leave to his dorm to read the contract. He didn’t need to over-welcome his stay.

“Nice to meet you Cloud! Come in! We’re having chamomile tea today!” Aerith shoved Cloud inside the flat before he could turn down. As he speculated, the household was unoccupied. Didn’t his relative have a debut to prepare for?

Cloud appeared displeased at how carefree this girl was. She had to be tactile with a stranger. Cloud liked his personal space. Still, he found her mannerism quite adorable. In the end, he didn’t express his lack of comfort.

“Feel at home!” The girl placed his bag aside. One less issue to worry about.

“I presume SOLDIER isn’t home,” Cloud deadpanned. Why didn’t he just leave? Right, he had a vulnerability for cute girls.

“Yes, and I get awfully lonely! But then you showed up! So hang with me until my brother comes back!” Aerith had puppy eyes. Dang, he was horrid against those.

“You’re acting like the house is yours,” Cloud said as he shuffled his arms close.

“Excuse you, I had sex here, you know?”

“With a condom or without?” Why did Cloud ask that?!

“No need for a contraceptive when you’re scissoring!” Aerith winked at him. Thank god, she won’t think he’s a creep.

“Bi or a homosexual?”

Aerith chuckled, “why, interested?”

“No, I’m gay.” It’s the first time he was declaring it. Geez, he came out of the closet to a stranger. He didn’t even inform his mother. He presumed she knew so he never bothered.

“Odd, my girlfriend mentioned you had a massive crush on her! It intrigued me to invite you to a threesome!”

“Tifa?!”

“So you’re that Cloud! My lucky day!” Aerith was grinning.

“You’re seeing Tifa?!”

“Not just dating, we’re debuting together! You’d better show us your support!” What. The. Fuck?

“This is nuts…” Cloud would never in a hundred years believe Tifa loved ladies. They need to reunite if they’re that close to one another. He couldn’t, though, he didn’t have a smartphone.

“Small world, huh? Don’t fret, I’ll bring Tifa here at some point! Thus you could chit-chat as long as you wish!” Aerith said. Cloud couldn’t understand her. His brain wasn’t operating. Can the day turn any crazier?! Tifa was in the same city as him. She was also gay, seeing Genesis’s sister and becoming a star like him. It’s a lot to take in. Cloud was unsure how to do it.

“Anyway, sit down! The tea will be ready shortly!” Aerith drew Cloud to the couch. He observed her moving into the kitchen. She prepared their drink. He has too many questions to ask her. He’ll stick around until the tea is ready, though.

“You’re going to debut soon.” Cloud was sipping from his cup. He wasn’t a fan of tea. However, he wasn’t that impolite to turn down a brew someone prepared for him. Besides, knowing Aerith for the last 30 minutes, she would force it on him, regardless.

“Uh-huh!”

“With Tifa?” Cloud didn’t foresee his childhood friend would grow into a celebrity. She was nice and had a beautiful body. However, he always assumed she was too timid to be on stage. He also told Tifa her voice was terrible before. He was a foolish teenager.

“And another girl you don’t know, but yeah! You? Are you a trainee?” Aerith asked. Cloud sneered in reaction. It’s not that she didn’t notice. His muscles and weight spoke for themselves. Cloud dancing every day wasn’t for nothing.

“Guess.”

Aerith put a finger on her cheek. She was as exaggerated as her relative. She was charming, while Genesis was annoying though.

“You’re a visual for your boy group!”

“No. I’m the main dancer.” At least, that’s what Cloud’s contract claimed.

“Aww, so we won’t go to a CF together?” She was tilting her head.

“I didn’t sign my contract yet.” Why did Cloud tell this lady everything? Right, she was an adorable young woman.

“Hmm, why not?”

Cloud said, “I got my contract today, I didn’t go through it yet.”

“Weird,” Aerith muttered.

“Why is it strange?”

“Corporations give their contract before the assessment to announce it there…” Aerith looked uneasy. Cloud wasn’t the person to reveal it, though. It was common knowledge monthly examinations took place at the same time in Midgar. It’s for the trainees to change agencies with ease.

“Shinra is trash. That’s why you never trained here, right?” Cloud asked. Aerith nodded.

“Is this why you’re faltering?” Aerith asked.

“I’m not hesitating.”

Aerith reached Cloud’s nose. He blushed. This girl was something else. Didn’t she learn about personal space at school?

“I detected your body language earlier! You’re pondering!”

“Body terminology is not precise,” Cloud said. He was taking the time to decide. He wasn’t wavering. Who was she to tell him he was wavering? He required that minor vacation to not overwork himself. Besides, he’d rather make the correct decision.

Aerith wasn’t buying it. When will SOLDIER return so he can leave?

“It’s your dream, right Cloud? I think it’s worth the shot! Of course, read it first to be assured you aren’t getting deceived,” Aerith was grinning. Cloud understood she meant well, but it still bothered him as she got into his matters.

“You just want me to sign to hug me on stage,” Cloud deadpanned.

“Hmm, that sure would be pleasant! I thought more about the flower crown pictures, though.”

“I’m not putting on a flower headdress at a fan meeting.”

Aerith pouted, “you’ll crush your fans’ hearts!” Cloud groaned.

“You’re disturbing.” — “That’s why you like me, right Cloud?” Cloud reddened, burying his face with his palms. Aerith giggled. God damn her chuckle.

Their teasing session came to a halt. They heard the door being unlocked. Cloud hurriedly stood up. SOLDIER’s members got into the residence. Cloud bowed like any decent newcomer will to their seniors.

“There’s no need for formalities, Cloud,” Angeal said. Cloud detected it didn’t cause the guys to feel any more comfortable. How should he approach them, though?

“We’re buddies, Spikes! You’re not supposed to bend to your friends!” Zack said and giggled.

“Spikes?”

“Yeah, it’s a nickname?” Zack said. He sounded unsure. Cloud wasn’t used to people nicknaming him. Unless it’s his mom, but she didn’t count.

“Oh, okay.”

Cloud won’t mention to the admired ones what he resented as a name. Besides, the nickname wasn’t that terrible. He had much worse nicknames.

Genesis said, “what are you doing here, Chocobo?” Like this nickname. Cloud didn’t look like a Chocobo.

“Your little Chocobo was ever so kind to devote some time to me!” Aerith said. She was smirking and winking.

Cloud groaned. He wasn’t that short. He was red from embarrassment. “I returned the suit to you. I also cleaned it. You’re welcome.”

Genesis smiled at Cloud. Then he tilted his head.

“I might treasure you, Chocobo! It’s unlikely when someone returns your clothes.”

“Did you acquire the news, Cloud?” Sephiroth asked. Cloud nodded. Cloud supposed it’s regarding his debut.

“Don’t believe all you hear,” Sephiroth said. He thus took his leave to his room. It had Cloud confused. But Sephiroth was a secretive individual. What could be a falsehood about him becoming an idol? What could Sephiroth know regarding it?

“Stay with us! We want to get to know our new member!” Zack said with joy.

“I’m–” — “Cloud didn’t sign the contract yet,” Aerith said.

“Take your time, Cloud. seven years of the contract is an extremely long-time, so plan it thoroughly,” Angeal said.

“When you sign, you’ll turn into Shinra’s highly valuable property,” Genesis continued.

Cloud sighed. He caught the weariness in their expressions. But it was his choice and dream. Cloud will make the last judgement. He won’t let anyone but himself determine his destiny. He might be a marionette in Shinra’s grips. Regardless, Shinra won’t stand afloat without their celebs.

“I hope you’ll sign! I’m hoping to sing with you on stage!” Zack beamed. Cloud exhaled as he shook his head. His tone will just kill Zack’s heavenly sound. Cloud was glad to have encouragement from Zack, though. He should learn to be optimistic.

“I could kill some time with you. I’m taking a break for a few days.”

Zack grinned, “You’re the best, Spikes!” Cloud blushed. He might have diabetes from how sweet Zack was. He’ll read the contract tonight after spending a while with his idols. For now, he’ll live his gayest fantasies.

Chapter Text

-ˋˏ ❀ ⚘ Player Aerith ⚘ ❀ ˎˊ-

They were fun to be around. It has been three months since Aerith hung around in the guy’s new residence. Shinra rewarded SOLDIER for their achievement and transferred them to a larger apartment than their former dorm. There were many firsts in this apartment. Her first confession, her first kiss, her first sex. Her brother and his partners supported her through everything. She knew she could count on them. You couldn’t trust anybody in the superstar world.

The recent member—Cloud—sounded kind and sensible, too. She found it questionable that her relative learned about his new-comings before the mentioned member. Yet, she was informed of how peculiar Shinra was. Ever since what they did to her brother and his sweethearts, she didn’t want to join them. Her agency was smaller, but at least they treated them like humans. Not as belongings of the business.

Her relative was busy getting the perfect alcohol. (according to him. Tifa will disagree with it. Aerith wasn’t a drinker to appreciate alcoholic beverages.) Aerith chose that moment to call Tifa. It’ll be more fun to play drinking games with her.

“What is Genesis doing?” Cloud asked Angeal and Zack. He looked tense and uncertain. Aerith smiled at him. He was cute.

Angeal said, “Before we debuted, we took out the competitiveness and hostility with Truth or Dare. It encouraged us to get to know each other and get along. We're adults now so we added shots as an escape format.” Cloud shuffled his arms. He had the slimmest of pouts. Adorable.

“So you think it’ll lift the unease between us,” Cloud said.

“Indeed.”

Zack embraced Cloud. Cloud grumbled and blushed. Aerith couldn’t contain her chuckles. Cloud was precious.

“It’ll be fun, Spikes!” — “Shut up.”

“Hello?” Tifa’s voice made Aerith concentrate.

“Hey my anemone, are you up for some alcohol and fun at Gen’s house?”

“You mean to kick his ass and show him how shots are drunken? Sure. I’ll be there in a few.”

Aerith heard the competing spirit in her partner’s words. She giggled.

“Teach him who’s the boss!”

Tifa returned the chuckle. Her anemone was charming and badass.

“You bet I am!” Tifa hung up the call.

“I didn’t take my half-sister as a dork. Anemone, really?” Genesis placed the Tic-Tac-Toe board and whiskey on the coffee table.

“Boo hoo, if I’m a dork, you’re an EXTRA weirdo. Who calls his loved one’s puppy and Chocobo?” Aerith pouted and took out her tongue.

“First, Angeal started calling Zack a puppy. Second, Chocobo ISN’T a bad nickname!”

“It is, I’m not looking like a Chocobo,” Cloud said.

“Darling, have you looked at your hairstyle? It flies everywhere.”

“It’s part of my appeal,” Cloud deadpanned. Aerith laughed. She avoided her brother’s teasing. Thanks, Cloud!

“Sure boo, but a dry skin isn’t.” — “I ain’t your boo.”

Genesis winked, “give me a week and you’ll become my boo!” Cloud blushed, all his sass escaping him. He was just so fun to tease. At least, that’s what Aerith thought.

“Gen, can you hold cheating on me with my boy interest sober?” Zack said. He sounded envious. Aerith witnessed a real-world otome game. She savoured every moment.

“We can fix it after Aerith’s Anemone appears. I won’t be sober.”

Zack smirked, “Not if I’ll beat you to it first!”

“Guys, quit arguing over Cloud, sharing is caring,” Angeal said.

“Ange, because of your philosophy, we’re a foursome,” Genesis said.

“And you love every second, Gen!” Angeal winked.

“Wait, you people are dating for real?!” Cloud asked. He looked astonished. He assumed Zack and Genesis were joking. If only he saw what Aerith did. Four people’s hook-up session is hot and traumatising. All of them nodded. Aerith couldn’t suppress her laughter as Cloud covered his face. The village boy couldn’t deal with the life of the capital.

“Anemone!” Aerith exclaimed. She rushed to Tifa, offering her a steady hug and a smooch.

“I’m here– Wait, is that—”

Tifa gazed at Cloud. He nodded at her before he waved.

“No time no see.”

Tifa dashed to Cloud, giving him a tight hug.

“It’s been four years since I’ve heard of you! Have you been eating well? You’re so skinny…”

“Shinra isn’t good at taking care of their trainee’s health.”

Cloud shrugged. Aerith recognised the subject didn’t please him. She counted on her lover to take care of him, though.

“Cloud! Promise me you’ll take care of yourself from now on!”

“Tifa…”—“Please, Cloud.”

“I don’t think SOLDIER will let me starve,” Cloud exhaled.

Aerith glanced at SOLDIER’S members. She wished to look at their reactions. Angeal nodded as his eyes were unsettled. Her brother seemed ready to burn Shinra’s offices down. Zack sought to hold Cloud in his arms. All SOLDIER adopted Cloud, and he didn’t sign yet.

Aerith gazed at her girlfriend. Tifa acknowledged it.

“Very well. We have a lot to catch up to. I’m interested in all your training stories.”

Cloud nodded, “Yours too.”

“Let’s talk about it over whiskey! Sit down already!” Genesis said.

“I brought Vermouth and Bitters to prepare a Manhattan cocktail,” Tifa said. Aerith knew nothing about alcohol.

“We can consume it in our Truth or Dare game!” Genesis said.

“Alright, give me a few and I’ll make it.”

Tifa went to the kitchen, setting her things down and creating cocktails. Tifa was a professional in cocktail recipes. Aerith was hopelessly in love with her. Even if she wasn’t a drinker, she recognised Tifa was hot making drinks.

The group assembled in a circle. Each had a cup with Manhattan. A bottle was in the centre.

“Come on Cloud, rotate the bottle!!” Aerith said.

“Why me?”

“You’re the youngest! You were born a year after Tifa and I!”

“Why the heck do you know about my birthday, Aerith?” Cloud asked.

“Tifa and I might have had a crush talk on our third date!”

It seemed to shut Cloud up. He grunted before he pouted. Aerith suspected it bothered him that Tifa talked about him. Cloud was a dork like everyone else.

“Fine, I'll do it.”

Aerith giggled, “I’m certain you’ll come up with innovative dares, Daffodil!”

“Why did you call me daffodil?”

“Because it's as yellow and cute as you?” Aerith tilted her head.

Cloud was ready to punch her. Genesis chortled, almost rolling on the floor. Cloud hit Genesis with his elbow.

“Ow, that hurt,” Genesis rubbed his hand. He halted to guffaw.

“Deserved. Quit laughing at my femininity.”

Cloud sounded upset by the nickname and the whole situation. Aerith felt responsible. It’s not what she meant at all. She always called people she liked as flowers.

“What the fuck? Why would I laugh at your femininity?” Genesis sounded offended at how Cloud felt. She wasn’t the only one who noticed the vulnerability in Cloud’s tone. Wonderful.

“Cloud, Genesis loathes gender stereotypes. He wouldn’t call you a female, like at all,” Angeal intruded, placing a hand on Cloud’s shoulder.

“Okay, but it’s Aerith who started calling me a flower to mock me. She likewise called me cute, as if I’m a lady.” Cloud glared at Aerith with hostility. Well, shit. Aerith felt even more terrible. Cloud was assuming she was bullying him. When she didn’t, at all.

“Aerith?! Ridiculing you?! Are you serious?!” Genesis said. Angeal lay a palm on Genesis’s shoulder to calm him as well. Cloud didn’t require a person to yell at him. It was obvious he was coping with something.

“Cloud, I’m sorry. It’s not what I meant at all. I nickname all my companions with flower names. It’s just a misunderstanding. I don't consider you a woman or feminine. I meant adorable in a positive, neutral manner,” Aerith said. She glanced at Cloud with compassion. The last thing she wants is to hurt Cloud.

“Aerith means it Cloud… She won’t harm you, I guarantee,” Tifa said, smiling at him.

“I’ll punch whoever bullies you for your good looks, Spikes!” Zack ruffled Cloud’s hair. Cloud groaned before he held his head low.

“I’m sorry, Aerith. Thank you, everyone,” Cloud muttered.

“Hey, what about apologising for punching me?!” Genesis uttered.

“You earned it for laughing like a maniac.”

It overjoyed Aerith that Cloud felt better. She gave him a hug for good measure.

“Come on, turn the bottle before Genesis will rap Loveless to us in tears!” Aerith said.

。゚ •┈୨ Player Angeal ୧┈•゚。

They have been playing a few rounds of Truth or Dare. Angeal found out a few interesting details, such as Cloud having a celebrity crush on Sephiroth, Tifa wishing to open a liquor business, and Aerith learning to produce flower perfumes. Angeal knew a lot about Zack and Genesis, so they added nothing noteworthy.

Angeal wasn’t a great fan of alcohol, so he went on with what they sought. He tried avoiding gulping alcohol every chance he could. Aerith did the same thing. He wasn’t the only one in the group of alcoholics.

Genesis and Cloud dodged questions like the plague. Genesis was too proud to pass dares while Cloud wasn’t. Angeal will provide dares to his boyfriend when he drinks too much. Tifa and Zack sipped from the cocktail for fun. Ugh, Zack, when drunk, was extremely touchy.

Cloud declined a dare from Genesis. Something about kissing the prettiest in the room. His partner has the IQ of a high schooler, he knows. Angeal wasn’t quite attentive this early on. It was more amusing when everyone was too drunk to care. Cloud was red as he consumed a vast portion of the alcohol. The cup looked almost empty. He leapt to his feet before he hurried to the toilet. Angeal sighed before he moved to grab a bucket.

Aerith’s sweetheart rushed after Cloud. From what Angeal picked up, she was his childhood friend or lover.

“Cloud isn’t drinking anymore,” Angeal decided. He didn’t call for appointments in the emergency room.

“Party pooper,” Genesis said. Angeal spotted the joking mannerism.

Angeal said, “you don’t wish to have puke all over your party, trust me Luv.”

“I know. Puke is gross.”

Genesis continued, “I’ll dare him this again when it’s us.”

“Why? You expect Cloud will be too drunk to protest and will kiss you?” Angeal asked.

“Indeed.”

“Aerith is more attractive than you,” Angeal teased.

“My gaydar is claiming Cloud won’t kiss Aerith,” Genesis said. Angeal chuckled.

“Please don’t speculate on Cloud’s sexuality…” Aerith said. Genesis and Angeal shrugged before they burst out laughing.

“Cloudy sky!” Zack said and hick. The next scene was Zack slapping Cloud’s butt and pulling him into the circle. Angeal facepalmed. Zack was tipsy.

“Zacket!” Cloud giggled before he placed his arms around Zack’s waist. Somehow, Cloud ended up resting on Zack’s lap, and they hugged each other. Both of them were chuckling. Angeal let out a breath. He did not require two cheerful drunks. The rest of the team snickered at the whole situation.

“I’ll consider Cloud is okay,” Angeal said and peered at Tifa.

“I guess the alcohol made him drunk after he threw all his stomach out. I don’t know the science behind it,” Tifa shrugged. Angeal received it. As long as Cloud was okay.

“Can we proceed with the game? Cloud, your turn to twirl the bottle,” Genesis said.

Cloud shrugged before he spun the bottle. The point of it reached Genesis. It was unusual when a duo occurred twice in a row. Angeal didn’t think Cloud was cheating, though. Cloud was tipsy.

“Truth or Dare?” — “Truth.”

Angeal caught Zack muttering something to Cloud. Cloud nodded to him with a slight cough. Angeal bit his lips, hoping not for that awful question.

Don’t tell Gen—I know he’ll call me entitled—but I’m tired of Shinra’s relentless attention over me. Maybe I’m just exhausted. I don’t know, it’s all the same.

“Did you and Tseng from The Turks date for real?”

Angeal groaned. He felt Zack would ask about it. He and Genesis weren’t ready to talk about it and they never will. It was an enormous mess for them. Genesis and he almost lose their friendship over everything. They were foolish high schoolers who dealt with mourning over him. Shinra took advantage of it.

I won’t tell him. Why can’t you explain them, though? If you require a break, get one.

Genesis consumed the entire drink in one sitting. He didn’t want to speak about it.

“Refrain from asking me that question. Unless you have a death wish.”

I know they’ll hand it over to someone else if I do. It’ll prove to them I’m not qualified for debuting. That I’m not perfect.

Angeal nodded in affirmation. Although Genesis was harsh, he got where he came from.

“Genesis and I were 16. Genesis seeing a guy back then is irrelevant. He took advantage of Gen, and Shinra moved along with it for profit. That’s it. Drop it.”

Of course, you’re not perfect! You’re human!

Angeal sounded cold, but he was annoyed at this question getting brought up. It just showed him memories he had rather forgotten. He didn’t require thinking about the precious companion they lost. They need to watch him , recognising he’s not the same.

Angeal, don’t let it dismay you. I’ll rest soon, don’t worry. It’ll be over shortly. Perhaps I’m entitled.

Everyone seemed to understand (As much as Zack’s slapping Cloud’s bottom and Cloud giggling is understanding.). Aerith stared at the floor and bit her mouth. Angeal suspected she was familiar with that tragedy. Genesis grabbed a coke and the whiskey and formed an impromptu cocktail. Genesis craved to drown the misery with alcohol.

Gen doesn’t mean it, he’s just having an inferiority complex and jealousy issues. Don’t take him to mind.

“Can’t you make a drink with more class?” Tifa asked.

“I don’t care about that shit at the moment.”

Yeah, you’re right. I should avoid thinking. It’ll be over soon.

“You’ll just get drunk over nothing.” — “A. It takes much over two glasses to get me drunk. B. I don’t care, Tifa.”

Tifa took Genesis’s remarks as a challenge. She pursued to cheer him up. How sweet of her.

Do you wish to not be buddies with Genesis anymore?

“Let’s see who becomes drunk first!”

Genesis asked, “Tic Tac Toe shot?”

“Lemme assemble the shots!”

Angeal was wise to escape the scene. He didn’t call for cups getting fired at him.

No, it’s not that.

“I’ll go make dinner,” Aerith said. Angeal suspected she realised his mind was elsewhere.

“I’ll check on Seph, in case he needs something.”

Then what is it?

It wasn’t the whole truth. His heavy mind just needed to look at his partner. Angeal didn't wish to be alone. He wouldn’t go that far without Genesis, Zack and Sephiroth upholding him. Maybe he could see his smile again if Angeal could support him.

Nothing. I need to leave. I have an MV shooting.

Angeal scanned the living room one last time. Genesis and Tifa quarrelled over Tic Tac Toe. Zack was fast asleep, and Zack embraced Cloud without an escape.  gradually dozed off. Angeal trusted Aerith and Tifa will awaken him. Angeal thus went into Sephiroth's room.

Okay… Take care—

Sephiroth was resting in his bed, his eyes closed. Angeal had to fixate on the soft movement of his chest so he won’t have a panic attack. His lover was alive and well. He was just charging up from their endless schedules. Angeal couldn’t help but tear up and bite his bottom lip though.

“I’m sorry for never-never detecting what you went through.”

Angeal will repent his passing until the end of his life. He tugged Sephiroth’s hair, braiding it like Sephiroth preferred to sleep in (he claims to fall asleep with unbraided hair damages it.). Sephiroth shut down without doing it himself. Shinra learned nothing from back then. Dumb shitty business.

Angeal pulled up Sephiroth’s sleeve. He next swiped his finger over Sephiroth’s arm.

62% · Charging will finish in approximately one hour.

The charging screen felt warm to the touch, yet the rest of the arm seemed cold. Lifeless. Angeal shrugged that thought aside. He hoped Sephiroth could have a pleasant dream. Angeal sighed before he kissed Sephiroth’s forehead.

“Sweet dreams, Sephiroth.”

Angeal rolled his eyes and chuckled. He didn’t expect his partner would blush while asleep. At least it was a lovely surprise. Angeal will remain until dinner is ready.

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

“Truth or Dare, Spikes?” — “Truth.”

Cloud’s initial round was with Zack. Cloud exhaled in relief as his eyes twinkled. Tifa would ask him something just to embarrass him. Aerith will just tease him with her “angelic” face and he didn’t trust Angeal and Genesis. Zack was the safest option, allegedly.

“You look tense, so I’ll go easy on you. Who’s your favourite SOLDIER member?”

Cloud cheeks were red. Tifa peered at him, smiling and snickering.

“What is it?” A 14-year-old Tifa had asked 13-year-old Cloud. Cloud had taken Tifa to his home for the first time. Her old man hadn’t been home, so she could play with him. A parcel had arrived at Cloud’s home and he couldn’t control his smile.

“The reason I’m leaving Nibelheim,” Cloud opened his package, a limited version of SOLDIER’s latest album, with Sephiroth’s face all across it. He blushed, staring at his idol’s face. That guy was attractive.

“A CD?” — “You don’t know SOLDIER?!”

“The idol group?” Tifa asked. It puzzled her.

“Alright, this is Sephiroth, the lead dancer and rapper of SOLDIER. We call him the ice prince because of his graceful and quiet aura. I admire him a lot and he’s the best part of SOLDIER. I’m leaving Nibelheim in six months to officially train with Shinra, anticipating to debut in SOLDIER’s brother group.”

“Wow, will you meet a celebrity?”

Cloud shrugged. “I’ll meet Zack the puppy first if I ever see an idol in the halls. The forums mentioned Shinra is very rigid with dividing stars and trainees.” Still, Cloud couldn’t keep his thrill at the hope of seeing Sephiroth.

“Sephiroth,” Cloud whispered. His eyes kept on his lap.

“Basic bitch,” Genesis said.

“As if he’s not your favourite member as well,” Cloud deadpanned.

“Thus, both of us are basic bitches.”

“Don’t mock him about the ice prince, Gen. He’s the biggest SOLDIER fan I know,” Tifa said.

“I memorised all the drunk crap you spoke about on SOLDIER's first-class reality program. Don’t try me, Genesis,” Cloud said. Both Tifa and Cloud laughed.

“You’re the definition of knowledge is power, huh Chocobo?” Genesis said.

“Spikes will kick your ass with his intelligence, Gen!” Zack said.

“I wish. Hitting is my kink!”

“Geeeen!! What did I inform you of earlier?”

“Right, Zack is having a daddy roleplay kink.”

The round ended with Cloud being red as a tomato burying his face. He hated SOLDIER and their teasing.

“Kiss the prettiest in the room, and no, you can’t smooch yourself, darling,” Genesis smirked. Why did he dare Cloud? Cloud craved to pick up a risk. The alcohol was making him tipsy, he guessed. It panicked Cloud to perform it. He wishes his first kiss to be private, whether or not it’s a dare.

“Sorry Gen, you’re not having a smooch from me. You require working to earn it.”

“How lucky I am to be a hard worker in love.”

Cloud consumed most of Manhattan in one sitting. Looking back, it was a foolish mistake. He felt his stomach juice running up to his mouth. He bounced up before he flew to puke on the toilet. Cloud was a weak drinker. Good to know. Cloud crept in front of the toilet. He threw up again. Dear Lord, today was shitty.

“Cloud, are you okay?” Tifa asked.

“Kinda awkward reuniting with your childhood homie in the restroom puking, huh?”

Tifa rubbed Cloud’s back. She had his long hair and bangs off from his face. Haircut with puke wasn’t fashionable, he knows.

“Your mom would inform me about you every week. She told me you missed me a bunch.”

“I promised you I’ll be a bigger star than SOLDIER. Heh, I was such a child then.” Tears flowed as he puked. What a cunt.

“Why are you saying it? You made it. In a few months, you’ll be the most famous rookie.”

“Tifa, my voice is trash. They’ll auto-tune the hell out of me.”

“Who do I need to slap? Your tone is the sweetest I heard. You falsetto better than any tenor I know.” Tifa said in a soothing approach.

“Squealing like a dolphin when someone puts a fake cockroach at me isn’t a falsetto,” Cloud deadpanned through his tears. A man should be brave and not shout. However, the bugs were gross and hairy. Couldn’t he pick up a bit more testosterone when growing up? Why was he such a mamma boy?

“Don’t tell that to Twitter.”

Tifa and Cloud chuckled simultaneously. It overjoyed him that Tifa reassured him and told him his voice was great. Why did his past self think her voice was awful? Her tone was kind of cute. It’s not like Mika–something the boys listened to, but it wasn’t bad. The laugh halted when Cloud puked further on the toilet.

“I’m assured you’ll be the most popular newcomer girl as well.”

“Nah, Aerith will beat me.”

“Congrats,” Cloud said and smiled.

“For debuting or–” — “For getting a girlfriend, silly. You’re living the fanfiction life. Y’know, dating a celebrity’s relative.”

“You’ll have a boyfriend too, sooner than later,” Tifa chuckled.

“Hold up, you know?” Cloud asked in awe.

“I’m positive all Nibelheim knows. Your crush on Sephiroth isn’t platonic.”

“I’m not that intense.” — “Cloud, you framed SOLDIER’s photo cards with heart stickers.”

Ugh, he shouldn’t have shown his collection to Tifa. He should’ve gone playing soccer with kids his age instead of spending time with his mom in the kitchen or on the piano. His mom was way friendlier than the boys outside, though.

“I’ll kill you if you tell someone.”

He didn’t need others to know he was that sensitive to minor details. Although, SOLDIER will speculate once they’ll see how he returned the outfit. Thus, they’ll know for certain once he’ll move into their residence. Some of his roommates claimed he’s doing laundry better than their mom! He isn’t certain if it’s genuine or sarcastic, though.

“I can defend myself. I learned material art.”

The rest of his throw up session passed by with glee. He missed Tifa more than he expected. There was a familiarity around her. Even back at Nibelheim, he didn’t see her much.

Her father detested him, considering his mom a prostitute. His biological dad (or biological piece of shit, as Cloud liked to call him), left his mother mid-pregnancy. Cloud considered the trash cheated on her and flew to not deal with the consequences.

Tifa’s dad might have loathed him further because he called him a misogynistic alpha male. He earned it, though. Nothing will come out alive after hurting his mother. Yes, much as Sephiroth himself.

Cloud rose from the floor when he stopped throwing up. He could barely walk on his own, so Tifa upheld him. The world looked more vivid, though. He couldn’t think about anything. He thought he could accomplish anything, as if he was flying high in the sky. Still, his brain felt heavy and drowsy. Is that what intoxication appeared like? If so, he’d rather be sober.

The rest of the evening was hazy. He remembered a lot of touching and laughing with Zack. Yet, somehow, he regretted nothing. The memory just gave him a pleasant, fuzzy feeling. He later recalled feeling light as a feather when he closed his eyes and dozed to sleep. He wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol or where he snoozed. In his gayest dreams, he didn’t see himself falling asleep curling up to Zack! What a shame he was too drunk to look back at all the details.

“Cloud,” a quiet voice said. Cloud was too deep in his slumber to get up. Everything appeared warm, as if he was relaxing in the fireplace's presence with his mother.

“Cloud, wake up.”

Cloud twitched in his sleep, yet he still maintained his eyes closed. If he’ll ignore it, maybe the sound will fade and he will continue to doze. He picked up some faint murmurs. He paid them no mind, though.

“Cloud! Your precious Sephiroth collection is burning!!” His eyes snapped open. Aerith was smirking in front of him. Genesis was laughing at his reaction. Cloud wasn’t that stupid to recognise they tricked him.

“Lie to me again and our relationship is over.” Cloud stared at Aerith in seriousness. It didn’t hold the girl from beaming, though.

“Dinner is ready, and I tried to awaken you for 20 minutes! The puppy is still asleep, though. Guess he’ll starve.”

Cloud’s belly growled from the word dinner. Aerith chuckled before she crept Cloud out of the sofa to the table. Everyone was sitting there, minus Zack and Sephiroth.

“Seph is awake, but he’s getting a shower. He’s washing his hair so it’ll take him a long time to walk out,” Angeal said as if he read Cloud’s mind.

“Yeah, I think I read about his lengthy hair routine online a while ago.”

Cloud sat beside Tifa. He seemed the most comfortable beside her. She was a person he was familiar with for years.

“He extended it. Nowadays he finishes taking care of his hair after two hours, two and a half if it’s a sunny day,” Genesis said in a joking manner. Cloud rolled his eyes.

“Wow, shorter than your skincare routine,” Cloud deadpanned.

“At least my skin is baby soft and not dry like yours, Chocobo.”

“At least I won’t have acne when I debut.”

Genesis’ eyes expanded, “Ange!! What did you tell him?!”

Cloud smirked, “nothing, I’ve just seen the pictures from that fan meeting seven years ago. Google Photos reminds me of that picture every year since.”

“Delete it, Chocobo, or else you won’t look at the light of day again.”

“You two shut up or you won’t have my famous fish balls,” Aerith glared at those two. From the manner Genesis shut up, Cloud could only presume they were splendid and worth gaining weight for. Cloud exhaled in the realisation he’ll read his contract tomorrow. He was too drunk to figure out what it meant, anyway.

Notes:

There’s no reason why I chose Tseng with Genesis except the fact I thought they looked visually hot together. XD

Chapter 6: Love You(bye)

Summary:

I don't remember what the fuck happened, it's 6K+ long, enjoy

Notes:

TW: Wet dream, Cloud thinking about what he wished Angeal will do to him. I’ll mark said sentence with a ♥.
Fun fact, I'm still going on this fic blind and I have no idea what to do with Vincent's character outside of his backstory. So if you have any ideas or suggestions, please write them down below!

Chapter Text

It has been a few days since the drinking game with SOLDIER. Cloud had come closer to the members, notably Zack and Genesis. While he didn’t see Genesis often (Genesis was busy shooting drama and ad campaigns), he met Zack every day to improve his vocals and dancing.

Cloud used to be very cautious about singing in front of SOLDIER’s main vocalist. However, Zack insisted. He often gave Cloud compliments, which established his confidence. Gradually, Cloud felt secure singing in front of Zack.

Now was another one of those sessions. Zack showed Cloud how to sing Vincent’s lines. Zack was very professional and helped him deliver the song's themes well. Cloud had a wonderful friend. Zack needed to be assured he prepared Cloud with their old songs. Even though Cloud didn’t sign yet. Until yesterday, there is.

The signing wasn’t as significant as Cloud believed. Cloud just reached inside the CEO’s office, signed a few sheets, and left. Still, it marked the beginning of his journey with Shinra. He should celebrate it.

Cloud reached for his water bottle. He was out of breath as he consumed about a third of his bottle.

“I signed yesterday.”

Zack’s eyes were wide open before he grinned. “You did? That’s awesome! When are you coming out?”

“In two months with your forthcoming album. I’ll move in a few days.”

“We should celebrate it, Cloud! It's wonderful news!! Welcome to SOLDIER!” Zack said and embraced Cloud. Cloud blushed before he flinched and frowned. The remark of SOLDIER and their home had his stomach flipping. He shouldn’t associate his happy times with bullying. Still, he did, like a moron.

“Cloud, what’s wrong?” — “Nothing.”

“Come on, tell your puppy!”

Cloud shook his head, but Zack glanced at him with pup eyes. Damn. Cloud sighed before he kept his head low. There was no reason to keep it a secret. He feared Zack getting irritated and Cloud being in trouble. However, there was no point in avoiding it now.

“I’ve been sleeping outside since yesterday.”

“Why?” Zack asked. Cloud spotted that Zack’s blood was boiling.

“Don’t get upset, but my roommates booted me out of the dorms.”

“What transpired there?” Cloud bent his head. His eyes were glaring at his feet. That’s why he didn’t need to inform him. He didn’t require Zack to become furious and lash out at him or his bullies. Cloud wanted to move on.

“Cloud, please tell me. I won’t harm you, I promise,” Zack whispered. Cloud felt horrible. He looked back at last night's incidents. He closed his eyes, slight tears escaping them. In the end, he just told Zack everything.

Cloud had been humming to himself as he had left for his dorms. They had signed him as an artist in Shinra. It had increased his excitement as he had roamed through the halls. The future had thrilled him. To stand beside SOLDIER and sing with them. He had been eager to know them better.

That joy hadn’t stuck around as he had opened the doors for his dorms.

“Here’s the bastard,” One of his mates smirked. The entire area was a wreck. They scattered his clothes across the floor, shredded apart. His bed sheets were stained and ripped, and they smashed all his belongings.

“You do nothing but cause havoc and suddenly Shinra debuts you. You’re a cheating bastard.”

His roommates ganged around him. Cloud didn't have time to react. He just froze in place, waiting for whichever demise.

They chanted curses on him without an end. They kicked him out of the room. The bullies beat him again and again. Cloud disassociated himself at this moment. He was praying for the pain to cease. It went on for a long while. Cloud was purple all across his body and bleeding. But the apprentices didn’t break off their wrongdoings.

Cloud heard the footsteps of the Messiah. Immediately, the youths raced away from the scene. Cloud flew to the communal shower to scrub away his blood and break down in tears. Still, he couldn’t help laughing that he was going to doze in the hallways tonight. They frightened him for his life throughout the night.

Cloud was tearing up, thinking of yesterday’s events. He wasn’t the kind to weep in front of the public, but he couldn’t express his emotions with a blank face. Zack crawled in front of Cloud, wiping away his small tears and offering him a tight hug. Cloud winced. The touch was painful for his bruises.

“I’ll lead you to my residence. Angeal knows how to care for wounds better than me.” Zack reached for Cloud’s palm. Cloud held it in hesitation. Just then, he recognised he was shivering.

“Isn’t Angeal busy with work?” Cloud asked as he tittered.

“We have a day off, remember? Management is directing Seph’s solo.”

Cloud nodded. It slipped his mind for a moment. Still, Cloud felt sorry for not remembering it. Zack noted that Cloud was quivering and out of it. Therefore, he just headed Cloud to his accommodation.

Cloud appreciated the actions instead of the chatting. Cloud was out of it. His head was just fixated on his emotional and physical suffering. He had nightmares the whole night, too. He realised how traumatised he had become after this. They wound him for years until his last moment with them.

“I can’t hide it from Gen and Ange, Cloud. I recognise the situation is traumatising for you. However, they must know to help you.”

Cloud nodded. He still got uneasy, though. Genesis was fierce like wildfire. Angeal was gentle, but when heated, he can be worse than Zack. Cloud didn’t know how the three would act, and it horrified him.

“What will they do?” Cloud asked and inhaled.

“Angeal will just take care of you, I can guarantee it. Genesis, I won’t hold him if he’ll burn Shinra down. To be honest, they earn it after what they forced us through.”

“Us?”

Zack sighed, “You’re not the sole celebrity who was bullied, Cloud. It’s easy to harass trainees in Shinra. They don’t have legal regulations to protect their students.”

Cloud felt nauseated hearing it. Shinra let bullying take place by choice. They did nothing to end it because they didn’t care. It cost Cloud to get more resentful than in his last four years. How gross an organisation can be?!

Cloud reached the familiar flat without noticing. The pleasant atmosphere offered him mental clarity. It still swayed him, though. His body throbbed from his bruises and scars. Genesis and Angeal acknowledged the state Cloud was in. Concern appeared on their faces.

“What’s wrong?” Angeal asked for both of them. Cloud couldn’t bring himself to reveal it. His lips just shuddered and tears threatened to slip away. Cunt.

“His roommates harassed Cloud. They vandalised his things and slapped him without an end. Cloud is so horrified by them he just slept outside of his room today,” Zack told instead of Cloud. Zack’s tone was resentful. Cloud glanced at the floor, ashamed.

“Ugh, they did what?!” Genesis howled in rage. Next, he stormed off of the room. Cloud didn’t enjoy where it was leading. However, he didn’t have the power to hold Genesis. Deep down, he yearned for his abusers to burn down.

Cloud spotted the worry in Angeal’s mannerism. Angeal didn’t utter a word though. He was thankful. Angeal came to Cloud, peering into his eyes with a gentle look.

“May I have a peek?”

Cloud shrugged and nodded. That’s why he got here. However, Cloud perceived it was for other reasons as well.

“Where did they wound you?”

“Where they didn’t.

Angeal frowned at Cloud’s response. Cloud bit his mouth’s innards. He felt hideous for his sarcastic response. Angeal wanted to help him and he was rude. Perfect. Angeal, catching how Cloud was reacting, exhaled and turned around to the corridor.

“Follow me.”

Cloud obliged and followed Angeal to the bathroom. Fun, Poldine. That won’t sting. Cloud sensed the resentment in the air as Zack left. Cloud noted Zack was working out to release stress. At least it wasn’t setting Cloud on fire.

“Ow,” Cloud complained. Cloud ended up wearing nothing but boxers in the shower. There were bloodstained bruises throughout his body, so he had no alternative. Still, it was chilling in the shower. Not to mention, it was embarrassing to have his new leader covering his figure with Poldine.

“I know it stings, but I must finish it so your body won’t get infected,” Angeal lectured. It didn’t cause Cloud to get better. He may have behaved like a child. However, the entire scene was ridiculous!

“Stings my ass,” Cloud muttered. He was too disturbed to restrain his bitterness. The situation overworked and agitated him. It didn’t even cross his mind that a handsome guy was looking at him almost naked, caressing his frame. If it was in a different circumstance, Cloud might’ve enjoyed it.

“Cloud… I’m not thrilled with this position as well. Just cooperate with me, please. It is my duty as a senior to assure your safety. The harassment won’t go unreported.”

“What if I wasn’t a newcomer? Would you care?”

(What if I wasn’t a fellow trainee, would you still care?

Of course, I would! You’re also my friend and I value my companions.

What if I was a stranger? Would you just walk by in silence? That is why abuse is still occurring.)

Angeal bit his lips as a tear slipped from his right eye. Cloud crossed a line, and it caused him misery. The paste didn’t hurt him as much as his regret. When will Cloud learn to watch his mouth?

“I’m sorry–” — “Yes, because I loathe bullies and I won’t remain hushed.”

“Yeah, Zack informed me you all had struggled with it,” Cloud whispered. He later flinched from the Poldine. There were many spaces exposed. Still, Cloud won’t protest. He didn’t need to upset Angeal further.

“Yeah. Genesis and I lost our best companion to suicide, and one reason was bullying. He was very akin to you. Although he had a fondness for trolling us,” Angeal tittered. Cloud gazed at Angeal with sympathy. He recalled Angeal mentioning it a few days ago.

“I’m sorry for your loss, truly. Suicide is horrible.”

He might have those thoughts sometimes. However, he could imagine how dreadful is to lose a dear one to suicide. Cloud would feel responsible and blame himself if he lost his allies or family to suicide.

“Thank you for your empathy, Cloud. I appreciate it a lot. You’re the second person I spoke to about it, besides Zack.”

Angeal took out bandages, covering Cloud’s body with them. It felt cooling, like alcohol touching your skin. Cloud looked like a half Mommie, though. The abuse injured him vastly; it seemed.

“Didn’t Shinra learn about it?”

Angeal snickered and scoffed, “It’s Shinra. Do you think they would pay attention?”

Cloud frowned. This information baffled him. The company he signed with was cold and inhuman. How will they carry out his dream well? Angeal placed a great focus on his dreams and honours. Why did he sign and let Shinra handle them?

`✦ ˑ ִֶָ 𓂃⊹ Player Genesis ⊹𓂃 ִֶָ ˑ ✦ˊ

Genesis had detested communal showers. Too many have been using them. He didn't have the time to shower. His hairstyle would always look disastrous after showering there. Genesis had dealt with it by drenching in the late-night hours. Cadets had been sleeping, which meant Genesis could give his hair the care that it requires.

Well, now it was unusual. The showers were idle, despite it being mid-afternoon. Genesis found it odd. His curiosity has got the best of him. Thus, he went into the showers. If there was no reason, it’ll be his lucky day to shower first. Of course, the goddess wasn’t at his side. Genesis detected the sound of weeping. It was so soft Genesis might not have heard it. However, Genesis was Angeal’s childhood friend. He identified a whimper when he heard it.

Genesis tiptoed towards the muffled sound. He sought to be gentle. But it wasn’t his thing. Genesis was rough about all he did. Especially in bed. How lucky he was. Angeal loved it brutish. Genesis gave up the calm act when he acknowledged who was snivelling. It was him. He was wet from head to toe. He was shaking, and his skin was full of bloody gashes. Genesis’s blood was boiling. The bullies took it way too far! Genesis couldn’t shut up about it. He had to make them pay!!

“Gen, don’t. I’m fine.”

“Don’t deceive me. You’re aching,” Genesis said in a harsh tone. He despised lies. Especially when someone he cared for lied to him. He and Angeal clashed often when Angeal told him sweet lies. Genesis abhorred it, notably when he was younger. He’s not a baby to be coddled.

Genesis brought him his jacket. He was silent. It didn’t surprise him, but the circumstances stressed him. Genesis helped him to get up on his feet. Genesis craved to go now and light the bastards alive. However, he recognised he needs to take care of him first.

“Let’s leave to our dorms. I have a hairdryer there. It’ll drain you fast.”

“Gen, I’m informed of all the tools you own.” — “Shut up, I’m trying to be nice here.”

He sneered, “you’re trying to be Angeal here. I prefer it when you howl curses.”

“I do love declaring that those scumbags are bitches every chance I can…” Genesis tittered.

“That’s more like it.”

“How can you be so snarky in tough situations?” Genesis asked. He led him towards their dorm. Those bullies frustrated Genesis. He looked forward to igniting their items and unleashing his revenge.

“Sarcasm is my coping mechanism. It’s my love language.”

“Aw, so you do LOVE me.” — “Ew, no.”

“I’ll be back soon. You know how to handle a hairdryer. I vow to you they’ll never harm you. It’ll terrify them to put a finger on you.”

“Gen—” Genesis thus left to do what he should’ve done long ago.

Genesis beamed and hummed to himself. He didn’t like the bible. But he loves following the iconic line: “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” The marvellous play he performed was that quote. He was blazing those trainees’ belongings for every object they tore for Cloud. They wept and pleaded, just like Cloud. He served karma right. The flames danced to his bliss, and the bullies quivered to his tempo. It was splendid.

He didn’t serve just for Cloud, though. It was for him, as well. He avenged his death. Even though those bastards were already gone. The current ones operated just like them. He’ll light the leaves until he flares up the root. Genesis wasn’t definite about what was the root, though.

To raise the drama, Genesis reached out to the wrongdoers. He was a few centimetres close as he pointed his fiery lighter to their hair.

“Wreck with my friend again–and–let’s just state your belongings won’t be the sole thing on fire.” Those youths shuddered and nodded. Genesis sneered. He kicked their arses out of the area before he left with grace. The show has now concluded. What a shame.

Hopefully, no sudden report will get out of his actions. Genesis was horrible with PR. Well, his executives will have to handle it. Scandals were a joy once you mastered how to perform in them. Genesis understood the hard way to ever smile at the picture.

The smell of mist and ashes caused Genesis’s blood to pump up. He loved the scent fusing with a sweet vengeance. Angeal scolded Genesis for holding grudges. Angeal passed up on the delightful act named revenge, though. Honour meant nothing. Genesis preferred to play his desires in style. Shame on the world for detesting his performance.

Genesis was smoking on the way back to his home. He sought Tabak to relieve his stress. He might receive a hearing from Angeal or Sephiroth, but who cares? It’s not like Genesis urged them to smoke. Angeal might claim otherwise when he smooched them after smoking. However, he likewise insisted Genesis was poisoning his plants when smoking on the balcony. Alas, there was no winning with him.

“I’m home darlings!” Genesis sang. He threw away his cigarette before going in. Angeal detested the smell. Also, he didn’t desire another— “smoking ruins your voice.” —from Angeal.

“Shh, Cloud is sleeping,” Angeal murmured. He was scribbling on the kitchen counter. Genesis suspected it was a meal plan. Angeal only outlined food plans and budgeting strategies. Genesis wasn’t the one who purchased everything that’s at a discount, though.

“I would’ve asked you what’s wrong, but I call for a shower. Where’s the puppy, though?”

“I sent him to buy groceries.”

Genesis shrugged, “the puppy is horrible with groceries. He does not understand quality.”

“Not everyone is picky with their apples. Besides, it’s the sole option I had. Playing with fire occupied you. So suck it up.”

“First, apples must be at their finest to be enjoyable. Second, quit being such grumpy pants. Third, the flame was marvellous. You were missing out.”

Angeal glared at Genesis, Genesis will soothe him after his shower. The smell of ashes didn’t benefit anybody.

“How did those cadets look?”

“Devastated and terrorised for their lives. It was such a tremendous sight. As holy as the gift of the goddess.”

Angeal chuckled, “go to shower, the smoke smell is sickening.”

“Tell me about Cloud later. I presume he lost consciousness rather than falling asleep. I know you and your fear of doctors.” Genesis left to shower. He didn’t appreciate the ashes on his hair and body.

Angeal exhaled before he gazed down at his note. “He doesn’t require an expert. I can treat him myself.” Genesis couldn’t debate with him. He recognised there were diverse ways to handle grief.

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

Cloud opened his eyes. He was adjusting to the light. There was a wet sensation between his legs. He jumped out of the bed from panic and embarrassment. The first thought was that Angeal was close to him in the shower, caressing his torso and legs. The second thought was why he had a wet dream. Cloud realising why was the third thought. He turned crimson red.

It didn’t even cross his mind back in the shower. Why did he get turned on in his dreams? Luckily, the bedsheet wasn’t wet. It would embarrass him to come out and explain why it was wet. How will he take care of his pants, though?—A comfortable wear glistened in the corner of his eyes. God bless Angeal for thinking about everything.

Cloud recalled collapsing in the shower. Lack of proper food and blood loss took their toll on him. He assumed Angeal sensed the rotten scent of his black outfit. Ugh, Cloud should thank Angeal later and wash his clothes by hand. He dressed up as fast as he could. ♥ Cloud tried to avoid any of his erotic wishes by seeing his naked body. Angeal, pinning him to the shower stall and licking his underparts, was tempting and hot. ♥ After getting disgusted by himself, Cloud finished dressing up. He carried his dirty clothes with him and left.

Cloud paused in his steps, though. His heart was thumping hard on his chest. Sephiroth stepped into the house. His eyes lacked any sheen, and his face and body operated like an engine. It wasn’t what alarmed Cloud, though. At the entrance was the man from his nightmare. Black long hair and specs. He came out in his horrors often. A dim laboratory place with him smirking, having surgery devices.

“Seph?” Angeal asked. Cloud awakened from his trance. Sephiroth as well. It freed his body from the tension. His green eyes were glistening again. The gate was locked. The fellow from his terrors was far. Angeal hugged Sephiroth, caressing his silver hair. Cloud realised he was gazing when Genesis appeared on top of him.

“Look at that, sleeping beauty is awake.” — “Shut up.”

Genesis huffed, “Don’t fret, that hoe is far away now. Although, ultimately, you’ll have to face him.”

Cloud gulped. He didn’t look forward to interacting with him. He didn’t comprehend why he was so close to Sephiroth. It all shouted dreadful news for Cloud.

“Angeal prepared a meal for you. I was just about to call you.”

“I need to wash up my clothes,” Cloud protested. He required nothing on his stomach, anyway.

“Oh dear, a relentless one, aren’t you?” Genesis stole Cloud’s clothes from his grips. Cloud prayed he couldn’t feel the slight wetness on his underpants.

“I like it washed precisely,” Cloud argued. Genesis sneered in reaction.

“My, so that’s why that outfit had an unfamiliar scent. Angeal, too, was interested in the laundry wash's brand. Alas, you’ll dine first and maybe I’ll let you off the hook.”

Cloud flushed at the remark. He was relieved SOLDIER didn’t scorn his clothes’ essence. He wouldn't give up on it.

Genesis winked and smiled. He went down into the shower, placing the clothes on the washing machine. Why was it always about showers? Cloud didn’t need to temper Genesis further, so he left for the kitchen. Cloud bowed to address Sephiroth.

They weren’t close. They haven’t spoken since the drinking game. Shinra’s golden boy was sleeping or restless with the schedule. Cloud observed it bothered the others. Each in their manner. Angeal was coming into Sephiroth's room regularly and leaving food for him. Genesis would complain about the absence of affection and attention. He was likewise taking his partner early from the schedule. Zack would be the most direct, voicing his worry and yearning.

Angeal frowned at Cloud’s attitude. Sephiroth shrugged before he bent back to Cloud. What a fine sense of humour. Cloud snickered.

“You two. Eat up before I’ll give you the lecture on why skipping meals is unacceptable,” Angeal broke the silence.

“Shouldn’t you be preaching Genesis about why playing with fire is dangerous?” Cloud deadpanned.

“I’ve been struggling for 25 years. Some lessons just aren’t sticking.”

Cloud was sitting on the counter. He was resting there twice. When he was chattering with Zack or Genesis. Angeal was actively taking care of his garden at those times. Now, Cloud was eating there. Angeal’s cooking was delicious. Yet, the thought of feeding startled him. He didn’t feel he justified it. Sephiroth lingered for a few, but then sat beside Cloud. Sephiroth was timid around strangers. Cloud was the same.

“I don’t bite too, you know?” Cloud said.

“I’m aware. I apologise for the discomfort. The last month has been exhausting.”

“You’re the biggest star in Shinra! It’s justifiable!” Cloud sought to be cool. However, his eyes were glittering like a child's. He was communicating with his number one hero!

“Indeed. However, even a vast idol has its disadvantages.”

Angeal placed two plates in front of them. He seemed comforted to see them getting along.

“I’m glad you are a celebrity, though. I wouldn’t have known you otherwise. You hear it every day, but I’m your biggest fan.”

Sephiroth glanced at Cloud with eyes full of misery. Cloud panicked. He hoped he said nothing wrong. Sephiroth shook his head.

“Cloud, you’re not my fan. You’re a fan of a character. A persona that was thoroughly designed by the agency.”

Cloud needed to argue. He desired to refuse what Sephiroth had claimed. It sounded painful and human. But Cloud couldn’t bring himself to utter. Instead, he ate and peeked at Angeal. He wished to see the disapproval on the other’s face. There was nothing else besides grief and empathy. Cloud felt nauseated and powerless. Cloud hoped he wouldn't think he was playing a role seven years from now.

“Angeeeeaaaal!! How to operate the washing machine?” Genesis cried out.

Angeal sneered before he excused himself. “I have to go before another fire takes place.”

“Isn’t he 25?” Cloud lifted an eyebrow.

“He’s a spoiled brat. He would beg me to do his laundry, then complain about the slimmest of details,” Angeal giggled. Cloud would’ve kicked Genesis out of his life if he was Angeal.

“Gen didn’t just take. He designed this apartment and our old bedrooms. He also helped me put up my garden. Also, he was the one who purchased all I used. He detests the soaps that are on sale.” Angeal explained as if he read Cloud’s mind. Thus, he left.

Cloud rose to wash his plate. Compared to Genesis, he didn’t act like a little prince. He could pick up responsibility when required.

“I assumed Genesis was a peculiar case too when younger. I refused to befriend him for a period. We faced many occasions through Angeal. We had no choice but to become friends.”

Cloud jumped when Sephiroth spoke. He blushed, clinging to the plate and detergent. Nothing was shattering apart. Good.

“I see. I was reading about your rivalry when you talked about it in an interview.”

Sephiroth stood as well. Cloud expected that Sephiroth would scrub his dishes as well.

“There’s a dishwasher, you know?” Sephiroth confided in his ear. Cloud choked, and the plate slipped from his palms to the sink. Sephiroth smirked. What a jerk. He did it on purpose.

Cloud glared at Sephiroth. His face was scarlet red.

“Don’t scare me like that,” Cloud ordered.

“I will startle you like that.”

Cloud pouted. He puffed his cheeks and left. Sephiroth will clean the plates as a discipline. Cloud could get used to living with SOLDIER. It was lively here. Although he should study to ignore the moaning from the bath. It’s ever about showers.

New clothes will be nice too.

The next day had come. All SOLDIER members were active with their projects. Sephiroth was working on his solo. Genesis was shooting for his latest drama. Zack had a reality program filming. Last but not least, Angeal was presenting a show. Cloud didn’t debut yet—SOLDIER will start working on their newest release next month—so Cloud didn’t have an official schedule.

It didn’t mean Cloud wasn’t full, though. He practised Vincent’s lines and dance movements. It was seven years’ worth of discography, after all. So Cloud got up early to study. Cloud likewise had his piano class today.

He greeted SOLDIER’s choreographer. He helped Cloud to master the dance parts. Cloud didn’t have an issue. He did many dance covers for SOLDIER title tracks. Still, the instructor aided him in polishing his movements.

Cloud was consuming water when someone knocked.

“May I take him for a few?”

Cloud groaned. Didn’t Genesis–fucking–Rhapsodos have a schedule?

Genesis sneered, “Someone is delighted to meet me!” — “The choreographer, maybe.”

The coach exhaled. He didn’t know how to handle Genesis. Same.

“We are amid a practice, Mr Rhapsodos.”

“Mr Rhapsodos is my old man. Come, Chocobo. I have an entire shopping day planned.” Genesis drew Cloud out. Cloud was displeased and embarrassed. Was forcing a person out called sexual harassment? Cloud was a celebrity now, so he had an equal chance.

“Aren’t you having a drama to shoot?” Cloud asked.

“Aren’t you practising? Both of us skipped. Let’s go. I’m dying for a fine coffee and croissant.”

Cloud huffed, “What if I scorned spontaneity?”

“I’ll tell you to suck it up. You require a new phone and an attire. I desire a new Hermes handbag. Win-win situation.”

“I don’t need a phone.”

“Yes, you do, precious.” — “Don’t call me that.”

Genesis ruffled Cloud’s hair. They reached the elevators. Genesis clicked on the underground floors. Fuck, underground parking lot. Cloud had motion sickness.

“What should I call you then?” Genesis asked.

“Cloud.” — “Hmm, I’ll consider it.”

It meant no. If Genesis’s tone didn’t reveal it, the smirk did.

“Ugh,” Cloud murmured. He didn’t prepare bags to puke at, in case his nausea would be tough.

“What’s wrong, Chocobo?”

Cloud shook his head. He won’t reveal his condition. He was a big boy, he’ll just hold it in like everyone.

“I was about to show off my dance moves. You killed my plans.”

Genesis pouted. He didn’t buy Cloud’s bluff. Damn it, he should put on a better poker face.

“Cloud, if your secret will stain Karina—”

“Who’s fucking Karina?”

“She’s my favourite car, and she just got cleaned.”

“A. Do you have many motors? B. Why the fuck did you name your car?”

“Indeed, I have three. Who doesn’t name their vehicle?”

Cloud kept his mouth shut. He was too stunned to add something. SOLDIER’s red fashionista was a lunatic. Is that how too much money affects you?

“Please tell me Karina has a trash can inside of her,” Cloud expressed when they arrived. She was red and gorgeous, like Genesis himself. Even in autos, he had a phenomenal taste.

“She does, why—of all the things, our newest member suffers from motion sickness,” Genesis sighed. Cloud flushed a darker crimson than the motor.

“I’ll be fine. Just don’t drive too rapidly. I also can’t sit shotgun.”

“How did you come to Midgar from Nibelheim?”

Cloud tittered, “We had plenty of breaks. I likewise carried a Coke bottle with me.”

“Let’s just go. I might carry an emergency Coke in my handbag.”

“I hope it’s not Pepsi,” Cloud deadpanned.

“No. Pepsi is for the peasants who lack taste and Angeal when there are 10 cans for eight ninety–nine.”

“What is Angeal doing with 10 cans of Pepsi?”

Genesis shrugged. “I assume it’s for cleaning the sink. I’ll reject it if I’ve been kissing a Pepsi drinker.”

Cloud chuckled before he went into the backseat. “prepare the divorce papers.” He was looking forward to spending time with Genesis. Cloud apologised to Karina in advance if he might throw up.

The drive went fine. Besides feeling lightheaded and nauseous, nothing took place. Cloud didn’t puke all over the car. Great. Genesis seemed to understand, too. He put the audiobook version of Loveless and described his interpretation of the verse. It was to distract Cloud from his illness. However, Genesis likewise sought to share his passion.

“What a shame. Our conversation about the gift of the goddess is over,” Genesis announced once he parked.

“I don’t understand why in the theatrical version there’s a girl lead. Loveless is sounding gay to me. Three males after the Goddess’ gift.”

“That’s what I’ve been repeating for ages!! Oh, precious, words can’t describe the fondness I have for you.”

Cloud exclaimed on the inside. He didn’t have any sassy remarks to add, so he kept silent. Instead, he leaned his head on Genesis’s torso. It seemed warm and cosy. They had the perfect height gap for snuggling. Cloud could fit into Genesis’s sturdy frame. They strolled to the café like that, with Genesis patting Cloud’s silky hair.

Cloud was flipping through the menu. He didn’t recognise a fraction of the things. Cloud didn’t have the luxury of going to cafes when younger. His mother had a handful to provide for them. He sometimes bought cappuccinos at SOLDIER’s birthday café events. However, it was to collect Sephiroth’s cup holders. Coffee was too bitter for him.

“Is there something that’s catching your interest?” Genesis asked in curiosity.

“Is there anything you’re recommending?” Cloud asked. He couldn’t admit that the menu puzzled him.

“I prefer to keep it basic, so I request a croissant and a cappuccino. Sephiroth–may Goddess bless him–has a sweet tooth, so he goes for a cake with his espresso. Angeal is a fan of the apple tart. I prefer the one he bakes at home. The puppy doesn’t have any taste—”

Genesis snickered. He loved to be critical of the slimmest of details. It’s called having a high░░ standard. Still, he apprehended it didn’t benefit Cloud.░ I s s o m e o n e h e r e ?

How is he? Is he okay now?

“Hmm, you can try the cheesecake. It’s a classic. It’s not overly sweet, and it tastes okay. At least, that’s how I recall. I’d rather not look back at when Sephiroth bought it. Dear Goddess, he sprinkled two sacks of sugar. I was having diabetes just by glimpsing at him.”

He’s stable. The parts your boyfriend sacrificed were vital for his survival.

Cloud scoffed and giggled, “I’ll try it, then.” Cloud was overjoyed hearing about his idol’s childishness. Genesis smiled, feeling pleased to cheer up Cloud. Genesis called a waiter. Thus, they just chattered about mindless subjects.

How should we take care of him?

Genesis also criticised his coffee for not being rich enough and his croissant for not being buttery enough. However, he just did it to complain. They were delightful, as expected. Criticising is a hobby, after all. Cloud sought to suppress his joy at the cake. Genesis mentioned it, though. He delighted in causing the Chocobo to redden.

Hojo’s nanoparticles have poisoned his body. I’m not positive when he’ll become conscious, if ever. But—

Genesis later paid for the breakfast. After hearing about Cloud’s hometown and razzing him further. Cloud enjoyed Genesis’s company. Genesis was caring and passionate, despite his exterior persona. The two left the café after Cloud insisted on paying the tip. Cloud wouldn't go down without a fight, despite it being a failure.

He’s a tough guy. He WILL wake up! They went through it for nothing—

“Ugh, Genesis, I don’t need a smartphone.”

“I’m purchasing one for you, and that’s definite. Are you an Android person or iOS?” Genesis dragged Cloud to a smartphone store. The phones looked ridiculously costly. Cloud can’t afford one, and he doesn’t wish for Genesis to do so. Cloud didn't need to depend on a person. Just because they’re allies today doesn’t mean they won’t be foes tomorrow.

He’ll live like any other humanoid.

“Bold of you to assume I know the difference,” Cloud deadpanned. Cloud didn’t understand smartphones at all. Even at Nibelheim, he never held one. He used to own a flip phone back when he was younger. However, it just settled in his school bag. He never desired to call his mom. Also, he didn’t wish to trouble her.

He requires charging once a week and plenty of love, care and tolerance.

“Dear Goddess, you never kept a smartphone before?” — “No. I’m not from a household that can provide extras like that.”

Cloud detected that Genesis preferred to protest. However, he didn’t speak a word. He comprehended when to keep his mouth shut. Finances were one of those taboos.

His memory might be jumbled up, too.

“Well, Chocobo. I am more of an iPhone man. Their camera and UI design are phenomenal. Regardless, you’re a more practical individual, so I guess Android will suffice.”

Cloud pouted. “All you explained right now was gibberish to me. Don’t get me a phone. I’ll pick up one once I’ll gain my buck.”

Don’t let him overwork, since he won’t understand his capacities at first.

“You can’t change my mind when I set it, precious.” Genesis searched for the ideal fit. The full ordeal unsettled Cloud. Yet he seemed thrilled. He could call his mom whenever he wishes. Cloud could chat with SOLDIER or Tifa when they’re not around. What will his mom say if he’ll accept such a pricey present, though? Cloud was overly proud.

Of course!! We’ll give him everything like we constantly did! He’s still our partner and member!!

“What do you think, Chocobo? I assume this one will do.”

“It’s more than just will do. Did you read the price tag?” Cloud wasn’t ignorant. It was a new release from a leading corporation. The price was high, and it promoted too many features he didn’t require. A decade-old phone will suffice. The latest smartphone from a prominent association will overdo it.

I know, I’ll continue to help too. But for today, he needs plenty of rest.

“The garments I’m wearing are costlier. Likewise, you shouldn’t view the price tag of a gift.”

“Get your finances together,” Cloud deadpanned. Cloud didn’t care for designer clothing. The emphasis was that the clothes did their job. Cloud had the same apparel for years. Until the bullies vandalised them. Ugh, shopping with Genesis was a dreadful idea. He’d rather purchase at department stores.

You’re growing new plants and flowers here. Heh, it offers a sense of normality.

In the end, Genesis shopped him that phone along with a Chocobo themed phone case and a Chocobo charm. What a joy. He’ll be dead before he’ll decorate his phone like this. Genesis was beaming, so Cloud didn’t make a sound. Cloud puffed his cheeks and crossed his arms. Genesis, in response, held Cloud again. Ugh.

Mhm, the smell treats the coma. Likewise, I believe the flowers will help harmonise with nanotechnology.

“You’re so adorable, aren’t you?” — “I’ll kick you in the ass.”

“Hold it to bed, darling.” Cloud couldn’t have it, so he flicked Genesis on his torso. He wasn’t in the spirit of dirty jokes. Especially since Genesis had three desirable men and Cloud had none. Genesis chuckled before he leaned to Cloud’s ears.

Thank you for everything. I require working with the others. We will visit tonight, alright?

“Paparazzi are capturing us at this moment.”

Cloud swallowed. His palms were sweaty. He wasn't used to that side of celebrity life. Shinra guided him on how to deal with cameras. However, the real deal was much different. Yet, Genesis’s demeanour wasn’t stressed. It was lighthearted and encouraging.

Of course! I’ll take care of him meanwhile! He’s in excellent hands! Please be careful.

“You have two options, Cloud,” Genesis said. His hand tugged Cloud closer. Cloud’s cheeks turned peach.

“You can struggle to hide, praying for the cameras to vanish–” — “They won’t, right?”

Genesis nodded, “Or you can smile for the picture. Treat the streets as your runway.”

Cloud did neither. Instead, he maintained his sassy quirk. Still, it was fun to act that the city was a runway. The fans and paparazzi watched his show, so they had better enjoy it.

We will, don’t fret. We always come back. Sooner than later, we’ll come back to him being alert.

Notes:

Two weeks from now, I might not have a chapter ready because chapter 8 takes a lot of time and effort to write for me. I apologise ;;;

Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Bonnie & Clyde

Notes:

The plot should’ve started in the last chapter, but it became more than 6.5K so I cut it. Here we go though! I’m so excited!! :) I might’ve added some stuff last minute. It’s because it's spontaneous fanfiction. I wanted to write something without a plan and outline to express myself for fun. Was it a mistake? Probably. But I survived 7 chapters so here we go! I wrote yuri smut for the first time! I marked it in a heart if you wanna skip it.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

☁✧ P̴̗̼̲̮͈͔̹̼̅̇l̸͇͙͙̰̰̤̭̖̒̎̃̀͑͌̿͠͝a̵̗̾y̶̨̦̯̜̙͖̑̋̂̉̕͠ͅȩ̶̘̟̜͎̏̿͛̍̓̂̌̉̽̆ṟ̴̎͋̏̈́̀͘ ̴̨̮̮͙̗̘̤̂̈́̏̂̏͌̕͝Ċ̶͕̲̬͋̅̋̊̈́̋ḽ̶̨̨̼͚̃̊͝o̶̪͔̩͙͙̣̽̂̒̅̑̌̑͘͝ȕ̵̲͖̳̺̣͇͆͗͐d̴̯̆̊͛̆͋̏̑̄͜?̶̛̪͕̞̭̫͉̺̙̤̏̂̊́̈͆̉̚ ✧☁

Harsh lights were surrounding him. Loud static buzzed in Cloud’s ears. The lights disturbed his shut eyes and sleep. Regardless, he opened them. He couldn’t move a muscle. Even blinking was a burden. The noise faded as he grew accustomed to the light. Cloud sniffed a fresh herbal scent. He further picked up on muffled speaking of the News. The window beside him showed the urban night sky. The severe light appeared from the computer beside him.

A figure with brunette hair is seated in the front. Her hairstyle was a ghost of a braid. She looked exhausted, though relentless. She typed on the PC without an end. Nonsensical numbers are displayed on the computer. He spotted a blood test beside her. Cloud suspected it was his own.

“Ae–ri—” Cloud barely made a sound. It was too much effort. He didn’t understand what had occurred. He didn’t recall arriving in this area.

The young woman jumped, instantly turning towards him. She looked dismayed, but understanding. She grasped his palm, yet Cloud couldn’t feel the pressure. Then, he realised he misperceived the weight of his body. It terrified recognizing his paralysed state but unknowing how to fix it.

“I'm here, Cloud. I'm here.”

Cloud was losing it. He recalled his dear ones. Zack, Angeal, Genesis, Tifa. Even Sephiroth. Where are they? Where is everyone? Why couldn’t he move? Why couldn’t he remember anything? He was babbling from the dread and fragility.

Aerith understood him. She foresaw Cloud’s questions since the abrupt surgery. “Tifa went to get dinner and medical supplies. Zack, Angeal and Genesis are doing mercenary jobs. We need cash to prosper. They further–no, never mind. You’re barely maintaining your consciousness.”

Cloud craved to object, to assert that he was fine. He required to know. Aerith shouldn’t keep mysteries from him. Alas, he noted she didn’t point out Sephiroth. She wouldn’t overlook it. Therefore, it was more crucial than ineffective perseverance.

“Seph—”

Aerith's demeanour dropped. She was hesitant about how to begin. The truth will be great, Cloud thought.

“I’m here, Cloud,” Cloud received in his head. It was identical to Sephiroth’s voice. It wasn’t his imagination.

“Seph…?” Cloud whispered. He shut his fatigued eyes. Aerith was correct. He couldn’t maintain his alertness. When will he rise again, though? What if he won’t see his allies anymore?

“Rest, Cloud. I’ll take care of everything.”

“Why?” Cloud’s thoughts urged. He heard Aerith checking him and changing his water. It was ice cold. He shivered. The girl spread a blanket on Cloud. Alas, it did nothing. He was thankful for the gesture, though.

“We’re doing our best to keep you alive. Don’t be headstrong. Just rest.”

It wearied Cloud to argue with Sephiroth’s rationale. He let his consciousness drift. He didn’t get the occurrences. But Sephiroth was trustworthy. Cloud’s instinct perceived so.

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

Cloud sat up. He hyperventilated, reflecting on the nightmare. It appeared too real for a dream! But he wasn’t in an impromptu clinic. He was a moving idol! Cloud concluded it was a vivid dream. There’s no other rational interpretation. Cloud sensed an odd aura beside him. Was he not alone?

He gradually turned his head. Baby blue eyes were facing green. He jumped and screeched, sinking into the bed. The figure resembling Sephiroth was gone. Cloud shrugged it as his night-terror leftover. Cloud failed to resume slumber, so he left for the kitchen. He expected that drinking water and wandering would dose him off. At least he would forget the nightmare.

It’s been a month since he moved. He got accustomed to the house. It felt like his own, despite residing there for a short period. Cloud tiptoed to reach for a glass. Angeal offered to have the kitchenware lower, but Cloud insisted not to. After filling the cup, Cloud settled on the counter.

Cloud thought about Zack. He told him a secret: he used to drink a beer can when he couldn’t sleep. (He was a minor two years ago.) Cloud considered that Genesis knew and kept his mouth shut. No alcoholic beverage will vanish without his notice. Cloud wasn’t transparent if it was from sympathy or bad influence. Cloud acknowledged Angeal was a mamma bird. He didn’t wish Zack to get scolded. It was intriguing to witness Genesis getting criticised, though. (“Look what our child learned from you!” Angeal said.) He chuckled.

“Can’t sleep?”

Cloud turned around, scanning Zack’s fatigued face.

“I could ask you the same thing,” Cloud deadpanned. Zack chuckled before he sat beside Cloud. Cloud gazed at his ally, his eyes twinkling in interest.

“Genesis’s cheesy vintage films kept me awake.”

Cloud scoffed, “Create a better lie.”

“It’s true! How many times can someone watch Eternal Sunshine?”

“It’s better than making yourself tipsy to fall asleep.” — “Not cool, be by my side, buddy!”

Cloud laughed. It’s better than describing his nightmare. Zack claimed that if he’s telling his aggravations, it’s only equal that Cloud will as well.

“Why won’t you reach Genesis’s room and tell him to shut up?”

Zack tilted his head like a pup. “It never works, from experience.”

“Well, if it troubles you, you can sleep in my room.” Cloud blushed when he realised what he had spoken.

Cloud coughed. “I mean in a platonic manner.”

“Aww, really? I’m cuddly in bed, you know?” Zack grinned and hugged Cloud. Cloud was red from embarrassment.

“I can tolerate it for tonight. Just don’t tell the public.”

Angeal and Zack talk about each other’s slumber when sharing a room. Cloud didn’t call for unease in front of fans.

(“Zack was sleeping well last night. He curled up to the side as usual,” Angeal said.

“I spotted acne on Angeal’s butt last night!” Zack said.)

“I won’t! I promise!” Zack hugged Cloud firmer.

“L-Let g-go, giant puppy!” Cloud squeaked from timidity.

“Aww, you hang up with Genesis more often. I’m getting jealous!” Cloud detected the joking tone. But he felt guilty. Zack is Cloud’s best friend. He was the sole person Cloud joked around with and chatted with. Cloud only played dumb fighting games with him, too. The others were too “old.“

Genesis merely dragged Cloud around for shopping and stupid movies. Genesis asserted only Cloud trashed talk films with him. (Angeal despises speaking in cinemas, Sephiroth is indifferent, and Zack falls asleep.)

“Ugh.” Cloud let Zack hug him on the way to his room. Cloud caressed Zack back in bed. Zack was his best buddy. Zack can’t assume otherwise. It was embarrassing at first, but the warmth was heartening. Zack played with Cloud’s hair as he dozed. Cloud fell asleep in that position. He’ll never admit he liked it, though. He can’t let himself realize he’s a softie.

★ 彡 Player Zack 彡 ★

Zack always lost sleep. It turned into a habit for him. Zack stayed awake from stress. Being an idol wasn’t simple, more so with Shinra. Later, his stress mixed with yearning. He lingered for a time before debuting. He missed when he expressed himself without repercussions. Back then, he was sincere to everyone. Without fretting about his “friends” seeking his fame. Zack maintained people at arm’s length.

His partners had their complexities. Zack didn’t wish to disturb them, so he kept to himself. They became famous as adults while Zack was a youth. It was constraining to grow up in the public eye. A thing the members couldn’t know. Zack wanted them to understand him. It’s egotistical, recognizing how they’re struggling.

Then, Cloud tagged along, like a miracle. Cloud was around his age. He didn’t want fame. Cloud became an idol to sing. Zack trusted him. It’s silly. They met last month. However, Zack revealed secrets he never let out. Cloud did the same. Their best dates were playing action games. The living room seemed vibrant. More than with Aerith and Tifa. Cloud caused him to feel alive.

Matters didn’t remain well. SOLDIER had a comeback to provide. Cloud was practising from daylight until late at night. He prepared for a debut, so it made sense. They were all active, chatting was difficult. Still, Zack suspected that Cloud had avoided them. How many times can a person excuse themselves? Cloud was rapidly losing weight. Was he okay? Why didn't Cloud vent to him?

Zack didn’t relax, feeling heartbroken and abandoned. He won’t let Cloud slip away. He must help. The hazy light of dawn reached the bedroom. Zack stood up from bed and left. He could only speak with Cloud now. He’d better take the chance. Cloud might be headstrong, but Zack won’t pull back from his bestie. He’ll make Cloud happy, no matter what.

“Cloud?” Zack asked. He detected lights glowing from the shower. He watched Cloud rinsing his face before speaking. Cloud gasped as his chest lifted. He turned around, gazing at Zack with puffy panda eyes. Zack almost led him back to the bed.

“Zack, go to bed. You have extra hours to sleep.”

Zack shook his head. He had to confront him now. He may not do it anymore.

“You should dose too. I confirmed with our manager, you don’t have a schedule now.”

Cloud reddened. Zack remarked he was searching for the words to convey. The constant excuses exhaust Zack. It’s one matter of catching your best friend bluffing. It’s bizarre when they try again. Perhaps he shouldn’t have placed faith in Cloud so quickly. No, there must be a good reason. Cloud wouldn’t deceive for no reason.

“Why are you avoiding us? You know you can talk to me…” Zack said with too much grief. Cloud flinched. Great, it meant he cherished him. Cloud jolted his head, mumbling it was not what he meant. He flew from the apartment. Zack grumbled before tears slipped down. It was agonising witnessing his buddy running elsewhere with fear. Fear Zack has cost.

Screw his schedule. Fuck Shinra for stealing his dreams. It drained Zack to pretend to be optimistic. Zack ambled towards his room. He locked the door and collapsed into his pillow. He sobbed for what seemed like hours. His tears halted from falling asleep. Hopefully, Genesis didn’t hear it from the shared vents. His pity party must be quieter than the Eternal Sunshine and Drag Race.

Zack awakened to a knock. He persisted in his position, hugging a pillow and curling under the blankets.

“Zack, are you okay? Are you sick?” Angeal asked with concern. Zack burst out in tears again. He had to fulfil his responsibilities. Yet, he did nothing.

It horrified him to meet Cloud after this dawn. He felt like he was torn apart. All the emotions he gathered throughout the years blasted. It’s not the first occasion “friends” hurt him. However, he couldn’t avoid the scars anymore. He should thank Cloud for it.

“Zack, I need to leave. But we will talk after we’re back,” Angeal said through the door. Zack expected Angeal had heard his breakdown. Zack was thankful they gave him space. The sound of footsteps and murmurings echoed, and then it faded. Once more, Zack slept through his tears.

。゚ •┈୨ Player Angeal ୧┈•゚。

Hearing Zack sob was peculiar. Zack never wept. He faced things with positivity. Zack didn’t break down since he was 12! At least, that’s when Angeal last witnessed it. Angeal wished to hug him and comfort him. However, Angeal didn’t enjoy venting before sorting his mind. Angeal expected Zack to require space as well.

“I assume Zack isn’t showing up,” Sephiroth said. Angeal bit his lips and nodded. Sephiroth was consistently straightforward. He didn’t know how to sugar-coat. Human emotions weren’t his forte. Genesis gazed at Angeal with sympathetic eyes, clutching his hand.

“I thought the puppy will get better by now. I overheard him crying earlier. Shared vents and enhanced hearing, y’know?” Genesis tittered.

“Music doesn’t make your ear senses better,” Angeal deadpanned.

“But learning to pick up your sobs does. I have a theory about the cause. We’ll find out, alright?”

A gentle smile formed on Angeal’s face. How lucky he was to have his partners by his side.

“What about me?” Sephiroth asked in a monotone voice. However, Angeal guessed Sephiroth was feeling isolated. Despite popular belief, their Android boyfriend sought to help.

Genesis beamed at Sephiroth before he held his hand. “You’re our Ace card, of course! Without you, our strategy won’t work!”

“You have a plan, Genesis?” — “Why of course Angeal! I wouldn’t lie, would I?”

Sephiroth coughed. “You lied when you ate my pudding.”

“Now, now Luv. There’s no need for reminders!”

Angeal smirked. “When you stole my seeds or crushed my vase. When you brought a trainee to our home—”

Genesis flicked to Angeal in annoyance. Angeal and Sephiroth spent the walkout giggling.

Cloud was in the practice room. Angeal smiled gently at Genesis, assuming what he had in mind. Cloud seems distressed. His eyes looked like he didn’t sleep for decades. His frame was the thinnest Angeal has seen. Cloud blue eyes peered at them in regret. Angeal reached their youngest member.

“Good morning, Cloud. I made you some food. I was concerned you didn’t eat this morning.”

Angeal offered Cloud a lunch box. Cloud was hesitant about accepting it. He gazed at the ground. Angeal wished it wasn’t remorse.

“Thank you,” Cloud muttered, placing the box in his belongings. Angeal hoped Cloud would eat it. Angeal can convey something to calm Cloud.

“It’s nerve-wracking to debut. You’re not alone, though. You have four seniors and two rookies to support you.” — “Thank you, Angeal.”

Cloud thus drew his distance. It didn’t assure Cloud. However, it’s not the first time Angeal handled stubbornness. Angeal believes they’ll manage with some time and space.

For now, they have to wait for their tutor.

It took a load to explain that Zack was sick and couldn’t join. The coach assumed Zack dared to skip. No, their Zack skipped only in the worst-case scenario. What Zack went through was that. Zack didn’t respond and whimpered from hearing his voice. The teacher let go once she realised Angeal’s earnestness. Cloud looked pale and devastated. He felt he was at fault. Angeal dealt with a couple of dummies. But who is he to judge? Angeal and Genesis were fools too, in their teens.

The rest of the training went smoothly. Occasionally, Angeal would glance at Genesis to study his face. Genesis detected the same as Angeal. They still require Zack’s side to view the entire picture. It was tiring studying both Zack’s and his lines. Angeal was the only one suited, though. (He is the lead vocalist, after all.) When Zack will get better, Angeal will instruct him. It was past afternoon when they wrapped up. Cloud fled like the wind. Angeal sighed, grasping Genesis and Sephiroth’s hands. It was time they’ll communicate with their puppy.

The three reached their dorm. Zack’s bed was uninhabited, but that was reasonable. They didn’t know if Zack left because he wasn’t feeling well or—

Angeal sat on his bed while holding Zack’s pillow. He buried his face inside it. This is becoming unbearable. If there was nothing Angeal could do, why did he insist Zack would stay? What good was it? He felt incompetent. Angeal needed to change this mentality.

“I think I saw the lights on in the shower!” Genesis said, patting Angeal’s face. Angeal moved up, leaving behind the cushion.

“I’ll go prepare dinner, then.”

Cooking supported Angeal in calming down. He didn’t appreciate it when his dear ones were in trouble. The scene reminded him of a few years ago losing him. However, Zack wasn’t him. Zack would be fine.

“Sit down, Angeal. You’ve strained yourself the entire day.” Sephiroth commanded. Angeal aimed to resist, but Genesis raised a finger to his lips.

“While I love your cooking, let’s order some food and wait for Zack in the living room! We all need to chill with some face masks and dumb films! What do you guys say?”

“Fine,” Angeal said. He thus gave Genesis and Sephiroth a brief kiss. He loved his partners very much. They all know how to take care of each other. Angeal couldn’t admit takeout sounded great.

The three of them left for the living room. Genesis reached for his phone and ordered food on the takeaway app. Sephiroth grabbed the remote to find a movie. A moment later, the door opened. They turned to watch. In came Zack. He wore a loose sweatshirt which covered most of him. His hair is still damp from the shower.

“Hey Zack, come accompany us. We’re watching a stupid movie!” Genesis proclaimed while skimming the app. Angeal smiled at Zack, welcoming him to join.

“Okay,” Zack said. He plopped beside Genesis. Genesis hugged Zack while Angeal rested next to Sephiroth. Angeal patted Zack’s head. “Zack’s back!”

“Yay,” Zack cheered weakly.

Angeal scanned Zack. He didn’t show any signs of having a great day. Angeal noticed Zack’s bags were lighter. Angeal estimated he spent the entire time sleeping. However, Zack’s well-being troubled Angeal. He couldn’t imagine Zack being this depressed in the past.

“I bought food. Pause the misery and let’s watch a film!” Genesis announced. Angeal and Zack tittered. Sephiroth nodded and put on the movie. Then he placed his arm around Angeal. It was odd that Sephiroth took the initiative. Angeal must be visibly down for it to take place.

“Thank you,” Angeal said.

“Anything for you.” Angeal identified Sephiroth meant more than it appeared. Angeal snuggled into Sephiroth’s shoulder.

“We’ll all watch this together, alright?” Genesis said. Sephiroth squeezed Angeal’s shoulder.

The movie went fine. They only paused when the delivery rang at their gate. Angeal stood up, but Genesis halted him.

“Seph, care to help me with the takeaway? I ordered plenty! Our puppy loves to eat, after all!” Genesis asked. Sephiroth nodded and disappeared with Genesis. Angeal had time alone with Zack. Sephiroth and Genesis put the takeaway on the counter. Angeal took Zack’s hand and smiled at him.

“What happened, Zack? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you cry,” Angeal asked.

“I’m not sure... It’s just, I felt so empty when Cloud started avoiding me. Then, when he lied to me, I just got... betrayed... I didn’t have a genuine friend for a long time! It was always the four of us. Vincent too, but he left. I miss Vincent. It appeared as if he understood me despite his silence. You three are the dearest to me–you’re my boyfriends after all–you don’t hear me, though.” Zack rambled. Angeal attended while drawing circles on Zack’s palm.

He felt horrible. Zack suffered for years! How he didn’t notice? Angeal sought to provide a safe space for his companions. Yet, he failed with Zack. Angeal’s heart broke.

“You don’t deserve this. I wish Cloud hadn’t lied, and you weren’t hurt because of it.”

Angeal hugged his boyfriend securely. Zack returned the gesture with equal ferocity. The two shared a soft kiss before parting away.

“I think Cloud’s going through something and doesn’t tell us. Please Angeal, please talk to him. I don’t want him to suffer alone. You spotted the extreme state he’s in.” Zack pleaded. Angeal couldn’t reject that.

“I’ll try, Zack. For Cloud’s sake as well.”

“Thank you. Now, let’s go eat. I’m starving and the smell of the takeaway is killing me.” Zack said. Angeal chuckled before standing up. With one hand intertwined with Zack’s, the two men headed towards the kitchen counter.

Angeal and Genesis waited for Cloud to arrive. Cloud will arrive late at night, but they were night owls. The celebrity life screwed their sleeping schedule. Sephiroth and Zack fell asleep together in Zack’s room. Angeal beamed, looking at the two cuddles. He felt so reassured he shared a picture on their fan club and captioned it: “Us who work hard finally relax. 🙂” SOLDIER might trend on social media again. Oops.

“Why am I here again?” Genesis asked and scoffed.

“We’re in this together. That’s what you stated earlier. Besides… You’re better at—convincing.”

Angeal was too gentle with others, while Genesis was overly harsh. Together, they’ll be the ideal balance. Cloud won’t run away from them, right?

“False. You’re great at persuading yourself. I wouldn’t be here otherwise.”

“Your skincare routine and binge-watching can await, Gen.”

Genesis sneered, “You’re awful.” — “I know.”

“Dear Goddess, may our youths be well,” Genesis said as he joined his palms. They referred to Zack and Cloud as children. Angeal chuckled, answering with an amen. Despite Genesis’s complaint, he cherished all of them. Genesis took care of them with gestures. Angeal often shared his affection with words.

“Mission on, Gen. I hear Cloud opening the gate,” Angeal whispered. The two watched the door open. Cloud stopped in front of them, looking dazed and distressed. His blue eyes seemed lifeless. It made Angeal concerned. He rushed to hug Cloud. He held onto Cloud tight.

“Where have you been?” Angeal asked. He might not get an answer.

“I lost track of time. Sorry,” Cloud said. There was no malice or sorrow. Angeal pulled away, observing Cloud.

“Are you okay? Did anything take place?” Angeal asked. Cloud shook his head, denying Angeal’s concerns.

“Don’t worry, we’re all here now. Come sit down,” Genesis said. He patted the space on the couch next to him. Angeal settled beside Genesis and leaned on his shoulder. Cloud figured out he couldn’t refuse. He recognised how concerned the two were.

“Did you eat the food box?” Angeal asked. Cloud nodded.

“Good, we have some leftovers from dinner if you wish–” — “I’m not hungry.”

Angeal bit his lips. “Do you want a glass of water?”

“No, thank you. Let’s get it over with. I want to sleep,” Cloud muttered.

“It isn't something to get over! You fended off all of us for a month! It depressed Zack the whole day, and he wept because of your absence and bluffs!!” Genesis said. Angeal reached for his hand.

“Gen, don’t,” Angeal said.

Cloud gazed down as Genesis fixed his breathing. There’s no need to yell.

“Cloud, something is occurring beyond a demanding schedule,” Genesis said. Angeal responded in agreement.

Tears formed in Cloud’s eyes before he wiped them away. Angeal caught the misery. Cloud didn’t wish to upset them and escape them.

Cloud murmured an apology before he left for his room. He slammed the door and locked it. Angeal knew there was no point in communicating now. There are matters he requires resolving. Angeal sighed and rested his head on Genesis’s lap.

“Let’s go to bed,” Angeal mumbled. Genesis brushed Angeal’s back.

“We still have our ace card,” Genesis said. His body tensed up. The situation pissed him off. Angeal felt beat too. They’ll help Cloud, right?

“Yeah. We’ll be okay.”

.⋆。⋆☂˚。⋆. Player Tifa .⋆。˚☽⋆。⋆.

“Anemone quit being on your phone! It’s our first day together in a while!” Aerith said. Tifa peeked at her girlfriend. She was pouting like an infant. Cute.

The two were preparing for their debut for a month. Free time was sacred. It occupied Tifa to do dailies in a dumb video game.

“Five extra minutes. I’m slaying that last boss—”

Aerith shoved Tifa’s phone into the lounge. She kissed Tifa, hungry for attention. Tifa will destroy that boss later.

“I love you, but please stop distracting me.” Aerith moped again. Tifa laughed, drawing her closer to the waist. “How are we going to endure this week without sex?”

♥“We can solve it now, babe.” Aerith picked up the initiative again. She pushed Tifa to the lounge, leaning in for a smooch. Aerith inserted her tongue inside Tifa’s mouth. Tifa moaned, doing the same. Aerith settled her hand under Tifa’s blouse. She opened her bra and got it off. Tifa pleaded in her eyes for Aerith to go on. Aerith squeezed Tifa’s breasts. They were soft and warm. Tifa moaned in reaction.

“I’ll take care of you, my anemone.”

Tifa was growing wet as Aerith began kissing her neck. Her hands raised to Aerith’s shirt, unbuttoning it. Tifa traced a finger on Aerith’s boob line before she took out the lingerie. Aerith was shivering from the touch, becoming wet. Aerith bit into Tifa’s tits. Tifa moaned in pleasure. Aerith’s warm titties on her waist.

“Fuck,” Tifa whispered.

“Soon, Anemone,” Aerith teased her, biting and licking all of Tifa’s frame. Tifa fluttered. Her pussy was wet, and she needed Aerith to rub there badly.

“Aerith, please.” The brunette obliged. She grabbed Tifa’s panties, setting them aside. Aerith lifted Tifa. Aerith’s hand went down Tifa’s shorts, sensing her wetness. She licked Tifa’s clit. Tifa groaned, closing her eyes as she felt her girlfriend’s tongue. Aerith sucked on her clit, getting it into her mouth and circling it. Tifa squirmed. A moan slipped from Aerith as Tifa’s pussy filled her mouth. Tifa was close.

She couldn’t hold back anymore. “Fuck me, Aerith.” Aerith obeyed. She lapped faster. Her tongue continued moving round and round until Tifa was out of breath. Aerith withdrew her fingers from her pussy.

She leaned in for a kiss, then pulled away. “You’re so fucking hot.”

Tifa didn’t respond. She was too active gasping.

“What do you need?” Aerith asked, caressing Tifa’s face.

“Just you.”

Aerith smirked, resting on Tifa’s lap. Their lips met again. This time it was Aerith who broke the peck. “Let me show you just how gorgeous you are.” With that, Aerith sat upright, making herself comfortable in Tifa’s lap. Tifa started stroking Aerith’s hair.

“Oh god, Aerith,” she moaned. Aerith’s nipples were full and firm against Tifa’s breasts.

Tifa went on massaging her breast as Aerith smiled. Aerith leaned forward, pressing her titties to Tifa’s chest.

“Aerith, take me.”

“Don’t be impatient, Anemone. It’s gonna take some time.”

“No. Fuck me right now, Aerith. Please.” Tifa gazed at her. Aerith rolled her eyes and pressed her breast even closer. She licked Tifa’s nipples. Tifa moaned.

Aerith’s tongue surrounded Tifa’s nipple, teasing and sucking it. Then her tongue swirled over the other.

“Jesus, take me now.” Tifa struggled not to lose control.

Aerith chuckled, bringing her fingers over Tifa’s clit.

“Please, Aerith…” Tifa whimpered. Aerith’s fingers went faster. Tifa thought she was going mad. Her fingers moved between Aerith’s legs, stroking and massaging her pussy. Aerith closed her eyes, her head dropping.

“Yes, yes, yes, fuck me, baby. Fuck me right now.” Tifa felt herself growing wetter. She was ready.

“Aerith, please. Take me now. Make me cum,” Tifa breathed.

Aerith nodded, placing one knee between Tifa’s legs. Gradually, she inserted one finger inside her.

“Holy shit, Aerith, oh my god!” She was about to cum.

“Shh. Just relax, baby,” Aerith whispered. She kept working, thrusting her fingers in and out of Tifa.

Tifa arched her back, gasping. She clutched onto Aerith’s arms. “Fuck, Aerith, I’m coming…” Her voice was hoarse, shaking. “FUCK!”

Her orgasm came hard, exploding in her stomach and inside her. It shook Aerith. Aerith gasped as well, her fingers still buried deep inside Tifa. ♥

They both lay there panting. Aerith was resting next to Tifa, their bodies intertwined. She beamed at the ceiling for a few moments. She turned to peek at Tifa, her eyes filled with lust.

“Isn’t it my turn now, Anemone?” Aerith asked.

Tifa almost replied when her phone buzzed on the couch. Aerith pouted. Tifa exhaled in apology and grabbed her phone.

“Hey Cloud! How are you?” Tifa asked, ignoring Aerith’s bothered face.

“I’m fine. Am I disturbing you?” Tifa gazed at her bare body. Then she peeked at Aerith’s body.

“Not at all! Is everything alright? You sound fatigued.”

There was a pause on the phone. Tifa was certain Cloud hung up before he replied.

“Is it alright if I’ll drop by? I need to distract myself…”

Tifa couldn’t overlook her childhood friend. He was in need. However, Aerith and she were having an intimate moment. Aerith will understand. She cherished Cloud as deeply as Tifa.

“Can you come in 30 minutes? Aerith and I have worked out and we need to refresh ourselves.” Sex was an exercise in Tifa’s lexicon.

“Yeah, of course. Thanks, Tifa.” — “Of course! Take care!” Tifa hung up the call.

“You own me one, Anemone!” Aerith said. Tifa chuckled and nodded.

“I’ll make you holler my name!”

Aerith’s face thus has grown serious. “My brother informed me Cloud seemed cold and depressed. It seems he trusts us.”

Tifa pet Aerith’s hair, “I know where you’re going. Let’s help him cheer up, alright?”

Aerith nodded. “Let’s shower and clean before our naughty secret will be exposed.” Tifa chuckled and bent. They then showered together before they cleaned the lounge from any cum residues. When they wound up, Cloud rang the doorbell.

The two opened the gate. Cloud seemed exhausted. His eyes were sluggish, with residues of tears. His frame looked like a skeleton. He was pale, looking terribly ill. Tifa gazed at him in concern before she embraced him. Cloud hugged her back, although hesitantly.

“I’ll go make tea. I’ve picked up lemon balm from my garden earlier!” Aerith tittered before she left. Tifa drew Cloud to the couch. She then rested beside him.

“Cloud…” — “Not now, Tifa. Can we do something else?”

Tifa nodded. “Do you wanna play together? I’ve been playing a dumb video game on my smartphone.”

“Sure. I love idiotic games.”

Tifa smiled. She then picked out her phone and opened the game. It was a strategy game full of adorable girls and intensive bosses. Cloud seemed devoted to the game. At least enough to get distracted.

Aerith then came back with the drink. She kissed Tifa, getting her entire attention.

“Hey, Cloud! Tea is ready! You’ll continue the game later, okay?” Cloud nodded. Tifa closed her phone. Aerith next poured tea for the three of them. The two girls glanced at Cloud with patience and compassion. Cloud hid behind the mug, sipping his drink. Anything to escape the unpleasant stillness. Tifa spotted he seemed to sit back after a bit. She determined it was the proper moment to ask.

“Cloud, you don’t look so well… You don’t have to tell, but I’d like to know what’s wrong…”

Cloud breathed out. He frowned, thinking of the best way to explain.

“I have a lot of thoughts lately. I’ve been going through a conflict I’m not competent at solving. It kills me.”

Aerith smiled in understanding. Tifa did the same.

“It must be tough, going through it alone. However, you’re not alone anymore. You have Tifa and me, the guys. Try to open your heart for aid,” Aerith said. Cloud winced in pain. Tifa kept hushed to examine the narrative.

“I don’t hate the members! Why does everyone assume I do?!” Cloud buried his face, weeping without a sound. Tifa placed her arm around Cloud. She caressed his shoulder in a slow gesture.

“I know you don’t. They’re aware too. They’re worried about your well-being. The boys are hesitant about how to support them. It makes sense. They met you around two months ago.”

“I came upon something they shouldn’t know. Until I make my choice, I must maintain my distance.”

Aerith frowned at Cloud. “Who are you to determine what they shouldn’t know? Knowledge is a right people possess. Don’t play God.”

“Aerith–” — “No, she’s correct. I’m sorry. I still need time before I’ll inform them, though.”

Cloud finds Aerith with watery eyes. Aerith smiled. It delighted her that he didn't get her wrong. Tifa smiled at Aerith. She was relieved they handled the situation well.

“Of course! Take your time! But Cloud, don’t let Shinra separate your relationship. Your friendship is more precious than anything.”

Cloud nodded. Tifa spotted the confusion in his eyes though. Tifa didn’t get where it came from, either. Her girlfriend was ever peculiar, though.

“I need to go now, I have a piano class,” Cloud excused himself. The two girls led him out. They have the entire evening for themselves to play around. Tifa looked forward to it.

☁✧ Player Cloud ✧☁

Cloud poured all his agony into the instrument. Some tears dropped on the black and white keys. It was a while after his lesson. He lingered around to practise. It was the only occasion he could. Besides, music helped him cope. He felt sinned. After all, he hurt his members, who became dear to him. All because of a secret he refused to have. A decision he didn’t wish to make. They’re going to live together for seven years! Cloud can’t screw their relationship!

Cloud did, though. Aerith’s words struck him. He shouldn’t play God, they may know. Cloud couldn’t tell them yet! His head was too chaotic to speak. He seemed hungry. His starvation reached the stage of headaches and fatigue. It was bothersome to train like this. Cloud did nothing but run his fingers on the keys. Cloud didn’t recognize what he played, perhaps a song from the radio. The notes perfectly conveyed his heart, though. Lost, bewildered and depressed.

Ugh, staying won’t do him any good. Cloud hopped from his seat, grabbing his backpack. He decided to go to the dorms. He could cook something quick there. Perhaps scrambled eggs. SOLDIER shouldn’t be home now. They were hectic with their schedule. (Cloud memorised it to evade them.) Cloud will get home, eat, and leave to practise the new dance.

He sprinted to the dorms. The sense of purpose provided him with an adrenaline rush. He paused when he arrived. He took out his key, opening the gate with the exact intensity. His eyes enlarged, and he gasped. Of all the members, Sephiroth was in front of him. He’s the one he sought to avoid the most. His dream from long ago flashed inside his head. Sephiroth’s hair flowed in the slight breeze. He had the slimmest puzzled look. Cloud was screwed.

“How did you know I would show up?”

Sephiroth shrugged, “I didn’t.”

Cloud crossed his arms. “Then why are you here?”

“I hope you’ll come home soon. Besides, your steps are loud.”

“Perhaps it’s your excellent hearing.”

Sephiroth provided space for Cloud to come in. “Hmm… Perhaps.”

Cloud scoffed before he got in. He dumped his bag, not giving a damn about tidiness right now. He didn’t need to confront Sephiroth now. Cloud will solve the mess with the rest of the members. He requires something in his stomach, though.

“There’s a prepared meal on the fridge, if you wish. We can speak after you eat.” God bless Angeal. Cloud’s belly growled. Sephiroth suppressed a chuckle. He’s not being teased by Sephiroth now.

“I can’t escape from this discussion, huh?”

“No, Cloud. I’ll sort this out. For my partners and for you, too.”

“Thank you for the compassion,” Cloud deadpanned. He thus opened the fridge and searched for Angeal's prepared food. He sighed. There’s some soup. Cloud closed the fridge and settled.

He heard the door close as well. Sephiroth sat beside him. Cloud glanced at the empty bowl next to him. He wasn’t feeling hungry anymore. The silence was killing him.

“Did you eat already?”

“Indeed,” Sephiroth said. Cloud poured some soup into his dish. He’d rather dine than deal with the discomfort between them. Sephiroth didn’t care for the silence. In fact, he seemed to enjoy it. He studied Cloud, drinking his soup. Cloud blushed. He didn’t appreciate Sephiroth gathering data on him.

“You can ask me now.” Cloud couldn’t stand the stillness anymore. He didn’t care if he’d choke on his soup. Cloud wanted to get this over with.

“Why are you avoiding us?” Sephiroth asked. Simple as that. Cloud couldn’t dismiss the question. The mere option was to be straightforward.

“You.”

Sephiroth tilted his head. “Me?”

Cloud bit his mouth. Sephiroth's tone was cool. Cloud learned his secret. Why wasn’t he alarmed?

“I know you’re a humanoid.”

Sephiroth looked puzzled. A quiet “oh” slipped from his lips. Later, his face rested. He was not upset and neutral. Just like always.

“How do you know?”

Cloud broke eye contact. “Your soul informed me.”

“Are you the one linked to me?” — “Yes.”

Sephiroth smiled. He almost looked relieved. Cloud couldn’t accept it. He shouldn’t react like that. Perhaps the Android and human parts were connected. Cloud didn’t consider it.

“Your soul begged me to kill you, so it would be free. I don’t think I’m qualified for it, though.” Tears flowed to his soup. Great. He didn't wish to be emotional.

Sephiroth stroked Cloud’s shoulders. It was nice to be reassured by his idol. However, it shouldn’t be like that. Sephiroth should be outraged or alarmed. Yet, he was calmed and relieved. Maybe he yearned to state his secret for ages.

“I’ll tell you my background story. I can reassure you it’ll help with your judgment.”

Cloud brought his soup aside. He was full anyway. He had to bring his attention to Sephiroth. The meal will just distract him. Cloud nodded. He moved further into the rabbit hall. However, Sephiroth was correct. Cloud didn’t have a choice.

Chapter 8: AN Life Update

Summary:

No update goes wah wah

Chapter Text

Hello everyone, noa_artist is here.

I wanted to deeply apologise for lack of updates for a very long time. I do have one chapter prepared, however, I won't be able to post it for a while. My house is currently in renovation and I'm living somewhere else. The whole situation is quite bizzare for me so I didn't manage to post on time.

I think I'll wait until renovation is over so I could post chapter 8, then extras, then finish it off with chapter 9. But umm... I need chapter 9 to exist for it... *Coughs*

To be honest, I think chapter 9 might be the last chapter of this adventure. TBH: I'm not getting enough engagement for me to stay motivated to write it. You might think to yourself: wow, what a greedy person, LOL. And yeah, you might be right. However, that's what I feel. In the end of the day, I'm getting that story out outside of my daydream and fantasies for you, the readers, to enjoy. If not many readers enjoy it, then why should I continue putting so much effort, sweat and blood to write weekly updates?

I apologise for the few readers I have who enjoyed this story every week. It's not the end of me writing AGSZC, on the contrary, it's just the beginning.

Once this journey will be over: I will put a link for the PDF version of this story. I worked on the PDF from the very beginning so you could enjoy the story offline or on your eBook services. Even though it's incomplete, I hope you guys will find it enjoyable.

I might post the outline of the full fic in the end for a piece of closure for the fic. But first, I gotta write chapter 9.

Thank you so much for reading. If you have any questions about the story, feel free to ask them.
