Rebornplates

Summary:

Gaster was physically tortured by the goopmonster when suddenly a portal appeared, and the stranger came to his rescue and took him to the surface. Thus his journey begins with a bit of a twist; the former scientist starts his life from scratch by being reborn again by being an infant with no memories of his past life and was raised by two elderly couple who owns a farm that is not too far from Mt. Ebott.

Notes:

This story is based on Zarla's Undertale fan comic called Handplates. I highly recommend it, but be warned that some triggering scenes may not suit anyone who suffers from abuse or childhood trauma.

Chapter 1: A second chance

Summary:

It looks like someone did hear Gaster's plea after all, and I wonder who this mysterious stranger is and how they managed to open the portal to gain access to the Void? How curious

Chapter Text

It's been too long since Gaster was in the void; all he can remember is that 1-S pushed him to his death, although the former royal scientist can't blame him for his actions; he caused them pain and suffering. Now he is the one who's suffering. The skeleton begged and pleaded with the anomaly to let him die. Still, it laughed and told the poor fool it was far too late that he brought this upon himself and that he deserved to be forgotten by everyone.

As it finished throwing him around like a broken rag doll, Gaster slowly crawled back to his lonely spot and lay there bleeding as he suffered numerous broken bones and a cracked skull. It's a miracle that he's still alive. Gaster doesn't understand why the anomaly just finished him off; he guesses it wants to torture him more. So the old skeleton waited for it to return, but it never did. He was alone at that point in this cold, cruel nothingness. Gaster closed his eyes, and for the first time in years, he began to sob and scream for someone to hear him and save him from this endless nightmare.

"ALPHYS...ASGORE...ANYONE, PLEASE SAVE ME I-I WANT TO GO HOME!" He screamed in tears as they fell from his boney cheeks.

But nobody came...

Gaster continued to cry till he couldn't cry anymore, so he decided to sleep, hoping someone heard his call, but how could they save a horrible monster like him? As the skeleton drifted off to sleep, he dreamt that he was back at home in his lab, trying to find a way to break the barrier so all monsters could take back the surface from the humans. As Gaster continued to sleep, he began to get a bad feeling that someone was coming back,  the anomaly, and they wanted to torture him again. He whimpered and was shaken in fear while whispering to himself that they'd leave him alone. The monster slithered its tentacles, wrapped his legs around, and dangled him upside down.

"N-no, please, I beg of you, leave me alone and let me DIE already!" Gaster cried out as it began to drag him around and throw him down again and again.

A strange portal appeared as it was about to throw the poor skeleton again, and a stranger came toward them. Without a moment to lose, the stranger struck the anomaly with their peculiar magic, which caused it to drop Gaster on the cold hard ground. The monster fled from the scene, leaving him alone once again. As Gaster tried to get up, he fell back to the ground because the poor soul was too weak and injured to try again. The skeleton looked up at the stranger that saved him, and then he lost his conscience. He was tired and weak to grasp what had just happened. Knowing his situation, the stranger looked at him and felt pity, so they got on their knees and began to use healing magic to heal his wounds.

The stranger looked back to ensure the anomaly wouldn't return to seek their vengeance as they were healing him. Then they focused back on Gaster and continued healing him. Gaster regained his consciousness by slowly opening his eye sockets. The surroundings were a bit blurry. Still, he could see what type of stranger saved his life. The stranger wore a cloak with a pin resembling their soul trait. He believes that judging by their color, their soul represents Integrity; as Gaster looked at them, their appearance was old and wrinkly, like a senior elder.

"Who are you?" Knowing this stranger had just saved his life, He weakly asked, "why did you save me? Can't you see I deserve to die?"

The old stranger chuckled a little, tried their best to help him up, and said, "I couldn't let the abomination torture you and just stand there not doing anything."

The former royal scientist was stunned by what this stranger said. Gaster couldn't believe it, someone had heard his plea, and a mere stranger was rescuing him. Gaster was about to say something, but the stranger listened to a distant roar coming from the other side of the void. They knew the anomaly was returning, so the stranger used their magic and opened the portal with no time to lose.

"We must leave quickly. The portal won't be able to stay open for long," the old stranger explained, hurrying the old skeleton to go through the portal.

Gaster nodded and quickly went through the portal as the old stranger followed, then they made it to the outside world, but the sun's brightness was too much as his sockets readjusted themselves. What Gaster saw felt like he was really in a dream. The old skeleton was on the surface for the first time since many years ago during the war with humans as the portal closed behind them. At that moment, Gaster knew today was the day of his second chance in life. The old stranger explained to Dr. Gaster that he would be reborn anew, but to do that, the stranger explained that they would erase his memories.

"Now then," the old stranger finished explaining to him about his chance of redemption, "are you willing to have your memory erased?" The old stranger holding his saved file was fractured and corrupted; for how long he was in the void, Gaster sighed, finally accepting this fate. There's no going back. He must do this to redeem himself.

"Ok, I'm ready."
