Summary:

Day 12: Misunderstanding

Shouto doesn't know why everyone keeps blushing over random things he says.

Notes:

My username on one of the Discord servers I'm in is Logan: "Himbo Shouto Rights!" so now it's time to write the Himbo Shouto Rights. Because that boy is thick as a rock sometimes and friends with Kirishima. I refuse to accept that he isn't an endearing stupid himbo.

Shouto knows he’s not the smartest person in the room, most of the time. He’s not like Yaoyorozu, who navigates most social situations with grace and poise. He’s not like Kaminari, who makes ‘hanging out’ seem easy with a joke and a smile. He’s not like Midoriya, who knows so much about Quirks and analysis, it makes Shouto’s head spin.

In short, Shouto knows he’s not the smartest person in the room most of the time.

But especially right now.

Izuku is staring at him with wide eyes, a blush rising to his cheeks and ears, running down his neck. “What?”

Shouto frowns and looks around the common room. Everyone is watching them.

Mina is staring at him, eyes alight with mirth, hands over her mouth, shoulders shaking with giggles. Tenya looks scandalised, mouth opening and closing rapidly, as if not sure what to say. Katsuki has his hands over his mouth and is making gagging noises.

“Wha-what did you say, Shouto-kun?” Izuku gulps, hands shaking.

Shouto says. “I wanted you to sleep with me.”

Momo chokes on her drink, coughing as Kyoka rubs her back gently.

Mezo produces an extra mouth, whispering. “Should you really be asking that in front of us all, Shouto?”

Shouto looks at him in confusion. “I don’t see the issue. The girls sleep together all the time.”

Toru gasps as if scandalised.

Is asking for a sleepover really such a private affair?

Mineta moans. “That’d be hot-”

Tsuyu smacks him with her tongue.

Denki snickers. “Geez, who knew Shouto-kun was into dudes? And so shameless too. Even I’m not that bold.”

“I think it’s super manly that he’s willing to be so honest.” Eijirou gives Shouto a thumbs up. “Good luck man, get it!”

Hanta chuckles. “That’s, that’s one way to talk about it.”

Fumikage folds his arms. “What a mad banquet of darkness. Shameless desire certainly does drive men to foolish choices, as my grandfather had warned me at age 13.”

Yuga just smiles widely. “Oh you fool, if you want to flirt with Izuku, you need to be gentler. Such a direct and public method won’t work on most people.”

Ochako winces. “I don’t know about that, Yuga-kun. Sometimes you need to be direct to get the message across.”

Rikido nods. “Yeah, I agree with Ochako.”

Mashirao covers his face with his hands. “Just one day. Can we have just one normal day?”

Koji nods.

Shouto looks around at his classmates. “What’s going on?”

“W-well Shouto-kun.” Izuku pulls on his shirt nervously, wringing his hands, tapping his fingers together. “Y-ya see when. When people say they want to s-sleep together, it uhh, it, you see…”

He whimpers and covers his face.

Shouto says. “Oh. So asking people to sleepovers is a private affair?”

There’s silence.

Then the entire class bursts into laughter and Shouto is just as confused as before.

Shouto hums as he practises his English, mouthing over the pop song, headphones in. Yamada-sensei said that they were all to learn an English song and perform it in class, since singing is good for learning a new language. Shouto thinks he understands this song well enough to give a good performance.

This will also give Shouto the chance to do something he’s never really had the guts to do. He wants to ask Izuku out and go dancing together. He wants to be close to him.

“Todoroki, you’re up!” Yamada-sensei calls.

Shouto nods.

“Good luck, Shouto-kun!” Izuku calls out.

Shouto stands at the front of the classroom. He selects the backing track, turning his headphones off. Then it’s time to sing.

“The lights are out and I barely know you~” Shouto sings, though he hopes he knows Izuku fairly well by now. “We’re going up and the place is slowing down, down~”

The class is staring at him in awe, Yuga and Momo starting to blush.

“You captivate me, something about you has got me~” Shouto can’t help but watch Izuku’s face as he sings this, meaning every word. “I was lonely, now you make me feel alive~”

Izuku is staring at him, a blush starting to rise to his cheeks.

“Will you be mine tonight~” Shouto asks.

Then the drums kick in.

“Take me on the floor~” Shouto sings as the backing track adds. “Dadada da dadadada~”

Izuku’s blush rises to his ears.

“I want you, I want you, I want you to show me love~” Shouto taps his foot to the beat. “Just take me on the floor~”

Izuku lets out a squeak, most of the class also blushing. Is the thought of dancing really that embarrassing? Maybe Shouto is going about this the wrong way.

Shouto continues singing though. He still has an assignment to pass.

“I wanna kiss a boy~” Shouto emphasises. “I wanna~”

He wants to kiss one boy in particular, in fact.

He finishes singing.

Half the class smiles and applauds him, while others in the class are in various stages of embarrassment.

“Todoroki, uhh… why’d you pick that song?” Yamada-sensei asks.

Shouto turns to him. “It seemed like a good song for asking someone out on a date to dance. I’m not sure how to do that yet, but there’s someone I’d like to dance with one day.”

Yamada-sensei hums. “I… see. So that’s what kids these days are calling it.”

Shouto is still confused.

He’s even more confused once he gets to the dorms, he’s being sat in the armchair while the class gathers around him (-Mineta).

“What’s going on?” Shouto asks.

“Shouto-kun, we love you, but you’re really stupid. We’re staging an intervention before you kill Deku-kun.” Ochako explains.

Izuku yelps, blushing as he wildly waves his arms. “Ochako-san!”

Shouto’s eyes widen. “Izuku, am I hurting you?”

“No but your shitty attempts to date him are fucking killing the rest of us.” Katsuki scoffs.

Shouto blushes. He knows he’s not good at articulating his feelings, so he tries to communicate through actions rather than words.

“So, Shouto-kun are…” Tenya coughs awkwardly. “Are you aware of what an innuendo or a euphemism is?”

Shouto nods. “An innuendo is when something not socially acceptable is implied in what seems like innocent speech. A euphemism is when a not socially acceptable topic is talked about using vague terms and phrases.”

Eijirou awkwardly rubs the back of his neck. “I, think so? Point is bro, you’ve been saying a lot of uh… sexual ones lately and it’s kinda shocking us. So we just wanna make sure you know what it is you’re actually saying when you say stuff.”

Shouto starts to blush as he thinks of several moments in the past few weeks where the class or Izuku acted shocked over something innocent he said.
