Jurassic World: A New Age

Summary:

Adapting to being a raptor wasn't easy for Owen. Having to hunt for his food with his girls is normal, the problem would be the constant argument between the raptor part in him and all what was left of him as human. Meanwhile the Raptor Squad were slowly beginning to adapt to their newfound freedom away from human activity when situations arose that threatens the safety of the pack. Owen has no idea what to do when 6 kids suddenly brought about trouble that may very well threaten the entire inhabitants of Isla Nublar.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Owen could see them.

He let out a shout of joy when he saw the silhouettes of his parents and friends. He just needed to get to them but as soon as he managed to catch up to them, their content faces slowly morphed into one of horror and terror as they screamed and ran away from him. He opened his mouth to ask what was wrong when he was horrified to find out that the sound coming out of his mouth wasn’t his own when a series of animalistic barks and growls entered his ears.

He looked around to find something - anything - when he came across a clear mirror. It never occurred to him as to why there was even a mirror in the first place when there wasn’t before and was horrified to see the reflection staring back. Forest green reptilian eyes stared back at him as the creature hissed and seemingly let out a smug smirk before it roared and pounced.

Owen gasped himself awake and found himself lying in a dense coverage with dinosaurs surrounding him left and right. Upon closer inspection he recognized them as his girls and sighed with relief. Looking around the dense coverage and feeling slightly claustrophobic, Owen quietly got up and pushed through to get some fresh air.

He had no idea he was immediately spotted.

***

The stars were beautiful tonight.

Owen glanced up and let out a chitter. He remembered the days his family went out camping almost every weekend as a family thing as they sang campfire songs, read stories to each other and watched the stars until they fell asleep or dawn broke.

“Alpha?” He turned to see Blue making her way out of the dense coverage of their nest in the Raptor Paddock. “Are you alright?” Concern was clearly on her tone to which Owen replied with a reassuring one “I’m okay, just…thinking” At times like these Blue always felt like Alpha was so far away. 3 weeks after the soft meats were all gone, she and her sisters finally discovered the feeling of freedom after a few days of recuperation, away from walls and other restrictions. It was a novel experience for them and they all agreed they preferred it this way.

They had discussed prior to making a new nest somewhere else and not here in their old nest since their nest is merely walls and a clearing from beyond until they reached the forest area. They had gone looking for places to build a new nest but either the place was dangerous to build a nest or there were already signs of nests from other dinosaurs. Echo had opted to fight for the nesting area to which Alpha reprimanded her because there were young there.

Sometimes Blue thinks her Alpha is way too soft, unlike her and her sisters but that’s one of the reasons why she follows him and that trait is a rare thing in this area.

Alpha would make a great father.

The thought was so random and sudden that it jolted Blue out of her thoughts that such a random thought actually occurred to her. She glanced at Owen and the thought of him surrounded and teaching the young how to hunt made such a wonderful thought before Alpha gently nudged her with his snout.

"Come on, let's get some rest. We've got a whole day tomorrow" Blue chirped and walked right beside Alpha as they made their way back to the nest.

Tomorrow would be a new day of searching for a nest and hunting. They had a nice lunch but hadn't had their dinner yet so breakfast is going to be big.

***

Owen had only gotten a few hours of sleep before he opened his eyes again to see Echo looking down at him with an excited look on her face "Alpha! I was about to wake you for the morning hunt!" Owen hummed before standing up and let out a small yawn before standing up.

He could see that he was the last one up. The girls were already moving about, eyes darting to the forest edge that was surrounding the raptor paddock, dew claws tapping with slight impatience.

Owen shook the dirt off his body before barking at his girls "Alright girls, let's go hunting!" The girls barked as they all darted through the forest. The forest trees and flora were blurs of green, brown and black as they darted through, their noses tracking the nearest prey they could find. This would be considered their first proper hunt after their full recovery. Back then, Owen had been feeding his girls the leftover meat in the storage compartment and when that ran out,  he opted to hunt for any leftover meat back in Main Street’s stores.

He quickly dashed that idea out when he scented the nesting site of the T-Rex there, so he went for the next option: dinosaurs, specifically Compies. He could hunt them on his own however he was still worried about other possible threats and dangers out in the open. Still, his girls take priority and other than sneaking his way back or circling around giant predators, Owen certainly got the hang of it sooner or later.

That and the fact that his girls seem to enjoy what he had given them, fresh meat instead of those in storage, gave him a sense of pride and accomplishment for the fact that he isn’t totally useless.

***

They came across a small clearing where dinosaurs with spike-like crests appeared (*Saurolophus), munching down some grasses; occasionally they would snack on berries they find. Hiding in the bushes, Owen felt that hunger coming back as his mouth salivated. Holding back a growl that was bubbling out, he scanned the dinosaurs, hoping for at least one dinosaur that looks injured or close to dying. Owen isn’t against killing, not entirely that is. He opted to hunt down those with injuries or nearing their end.

He refused to hunt the young, the healthy kind.

He made that policy after he decided to live with his girls here as a carnivorous raptor.

“A heavily injured one, close to the center” Blue was quick to spot when she noticed an injured young limping close to the herd, claw marks on the back indicated an attack before it escaped however the scent of blood could attract many predators, predators like them.

Owen and the rest immediately spotted the prey Blue pointed at and while Owen did wince at how young it looked he immediately pushed that thought to the back of his mind. He barked at his girls, discussing the plan of attack. Since the injured prey was clearly in the center, they had to make sure the injured prey was clear from the others.

With the plan set, they immediately broke away from each other. Keeping their forms lowered to the ground to blend in with the bushes, Owen and Blue and Charlie waited as the herbivores continued to munch and chew on their morning breakfast. Reptilian eyes narrowed once the herbivores finally moved to search for new patches of grass, clearing a path for the injured dinosaur with its head lowered, unaware.

Now!

65 million years of instincts kicked in as Owen, Blue and Charlie charged like bullet trains to their prey. Blue quickly jumped on its back and aimed her attacks on the injuries, spilling out more blood. Owen aimed at the neck, making sure to prevent the animal from rearing and throwing Blue off. Charlie aimed at one of its legs and tore off quite a section of meat.

Quickly noticing the sudden attack, the Saurolophus dinosaurs all roared and started to turn around to run. Echo and Delta quickly moved to attack as they helped Charlie into subduing the dinosaur. Seeing that its death was apparent, the poor dinosaur let out one last roar before it fell, Owen quickly tore off its neck before it could feel any more pain.

Letting his human side take a back seat, his raptor side purred hummingly as he tore through the meat and bones of the dead dinosaur though he avoided looking at the lifeless eyes of the dinosaur, not wanting to feel any more discomfort than he already was.

This is the law of dinosaurs. If you get injured and attacked, don't even think about calling for help from others that will suffer the same fate. Dinosaurs leave behind the injured to save their own and as much as Owen dislikes that kind of thinking, he knows it's just millions of years of survival instincts kicking in. An instinct he would very much ignore if his girls are in any danger.

They ate quickly, the scent of blood would soon alert other predators other than themselves to this location so Owen gave the girls and himself close to an hour of devouring before he barked at them that it was time to leave.

No sooner had they left, Carnotaurus dinosaurs entered the scene.

***

With such a successful hunt and with nothing to do for the day, they opted to search for new nesting sites where they would most likely settle down. While Blue and her sisters made a nest in the raptor paddock, they didn’t like the constant gazes of soft meat. It raised their guard almost every time and they only tolerated it because Alpha was there otherwise, they might have attacked anything that moved.

“Almost all possible nesting grounds are occupied” Blue huffed in frustration. Owen understands her frustration. He's frustrated too. Despite the raptor paddock serving as their nesting area, it stands out too much.

Predators by nature are curious creatures and when they see something that stands out too much, they inspect it in search of potential game. Owen doesn't want his girls to be in constant guard now that they are free.

Charlie suddenly stopped and sniffed the air. The others stopped as well and gave her questioning noises. "This smell…" Charlie suddenly barked before she darted off to another direction.

"Charlie!" Owen roared before he ran after her. The girls followed soon after. They followed Charlie to an unused path before stopping their tracks once they realized where they were.

Delta, Blue and Echo let out growls of anger when the old scent of the I-Rex hit their olfactory senses. Owen simply grimaced as he stared at the original Visitor's Center of Jurassic Park.

"Charlie, why did you lead us here?" Delta hissed. She did not want to stay here longer than she should have. Charlie barked before walking straight inside. Despite the dilapidated state it was in, a reminiscence of the battle that took place here both when it was still operational and when they escaped the I-Rex, Owen could not help but feel awe and wonder.

This place is where it all began.

"Don't you see?" Charlie said which confused the group "See what? That we are standing in the grounds of where the Killer almost had us?" Delta barked with a low growl. It was uncomfortable for all four girls to discuss what exactly happened here. They had no clue as to what happened but they were betrayed by their instincts to trust a dinosaur that would undoubtedly be their end had they followed her. The fact that it was so easy for them to think of betraying their Alpha is what made them uncomfortable.

“I mean this looks like a perfect place to make our new nest ” Charlie stated which earned looks from all of her sisters, with the exception of Echo. Delta and Blue surveyed the area “What do you think Delta?” Blue asked, hoping to hear from her sister’s judgment for a second opinion.

Before Delta could answer, there was a pained screech coming from a poor dinosaur. All eyes turned to Echo whose snout was on the bushes. She straightened up to reveal a dead Compy on her mouth. “I think I like it here, plenty of small prey to snack on” Blue and Delta could feel themselves slightly annoyed by Echo.

Owen glanced around and took note of the dense coverage suitable for hiding and other stuff that could be used for making a nest. Owen glanced at the walls that seemed like it could protect them enough from outside forces and the roof from dinosaurs from the sky, something the raptor paddock doesn’t have.

“Alpha?” Blue’s voice made him turn to see his beta looking at him questioningly “It's not that much but this looks like a suitable place to build a nest” Owen said to which Delta barked out an agreement. Charlie and Echo chirped as they raced around the area, jaws snapping at Compies who quickly ran away at the sight of two raptors. Blue glanced at the area one more time. It wasn’t like they were in the forest but they were completely surrounded and this place feels like a familiar presence like in their old nest.

Owen and Blue glanced at one another before they stared back at the Visitor’s Center of the original Jurassic World Park.

They finally have a proper nest.

Chapter 2: Watering Hole and Bad Company

Chapter Text

Making a dinosaur nest is a novel experience for Owen. He had opted to accompany Blue into helping gather twigs for their new nest site, to which the young female raptor was very enthusiastic to show him the proper way of making a nest. Echo had to hold back a gag after seeing the eldest not subtlety bring herself closer to Alpha.

“You seem annoyed” Delta commented after placing more twigs and leaves to serve as bedding. Charlie had gone back to the raptor paddock to grab her favorite animal bones to lay them around their new nest. Echo huffed “I have never seen the eldest look so…like that.” She complained, her gaze never straying from Alpha and Blue as they discussed which twigs would look better on the nest and which leaves are preferrable. She had no idea what to call it but something told her it wasn’t supposed to be a normal reaction.

Delta glanced at the two and while she was confused as to why the eldest was casually rubbing herself closer to Alpha and if she wasn't, at least a part of her body was touching him, Delta guessed it was more of a  pack bonding moment.

Fun Fact: When dinosaurs pair up it wasn’t simply because of love or blossoming romance, they simply pair up for the sake of producing an offspring to carry out the next generation and to ensure the survival of their species. Any feeling or emotions they have ends when the offspring makes their way to life on their own.

Unfortunately for genetified dinosaurs, while some still rely on the instincts passed down by their fossilized ancestors, the rules cannot be applied much on these dinosaurs of today.

That did not even cross Owen’s mind when he felt Blue sliding herself a little closer than he’d like. He thought of it as something of a bonding thing between raptors so he let her do her thing while he sorted out which twig size is perfect for the nest and which are to be thrown out (*He had no idea what he was doing so he was just waiting for Blue’s judgment to save his pride and dignity left as a man).

"I think this should go. They don't look good" Owen pointed out when he noticed some stuff stuck on one random large stick which he thinks might be bad bacteria or whatever the science geeks call those things that grow on trees caused by some invisible carrier. Blue hummed. She has no idea what she was doing, only that it felt so nice to be close to Alpha.

“Alpha might be right…” Blue answered when she noticed Alpha glancing in her way with a confused look on his face. Alpha quickly grabbed the stick and was hauling it to the door when Charlie burst through the swinging doors with bones in her mouth as she made excited noises.

Delta barked at her in confusion and also in slight anger. Did she know she almost bumped into Alpha?

"You have got to see this!" Charlie chittered with delight in her noises as she dropped her bones before she darted back out. Owen, curious as to what she found, quickly dragged the piece of wood out before throwing it somewhere before barking at his girls that he'll be back later with Charlie.

Blue looked like she was ready to protest when Delta cut her off with an agreeing bark. "Come on Sister Blue. It's not like they're going to do something" At Echo's words, Blue bristled as she turned to Echo "What is that supposed to mean?" Delta ignored the two brawling raptors and merely proceeded to place Charlie's favorite bones to where the youngest slept.

Will those two ever get along?

***

Owen and Charlie darted through the forest with the latter leading. It didn't bother Owen that much as he wasn't that rank oriented compared to his girls but there was a slight growing discomfort.

Charlie barked as she slowed to a stop as did Owen and he was met by a sight he only saw in books and TV documentaries about dinosaurs.

A Watering Hole.

A neutral place where no fighting happens between predator and prey. A safe place to relax and find peace. Owen's staring was cut off by Charlie pushing him to the side before excitedly barking out to him "C'mon Alpha! The place is new!" Charlie barked before she ran straight in. "Charlie, wait!" Owen roared as he ran after the curious raptor.

He stopped in between a Brachiosaurus and a Stegosaurus before taking a sip. Cooling water entered his throat and Owen couldn't stop taking a few more sips before straightening up and looking around to see different species of dinosaurs all in one place with some taking a nice dip in the Watering hole.

Someone pushed Owen from behind because his snout was suddenly filled with water. Immediately standing up, he turned to look at Charlie who wagged her tail side to side as she barked before pouncing on him playfully and the two ended up having a raptor water fight as they ran/swam in the water. For once, Owen felt like a dad taking his kids to the park and having fun. He playfully growled before pushing and dunking Charlie's head under, to which she joyfully screeched and tried to do the same thing.

He kinda liked this feeling.

His thoughts were cut off when Charlie barked out that she was done and wanted to head home. Heading back to where they first stood, Owen shook the excess water off from his scales when a new scent caught his nostrils. He straightens and sniffs again to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.

Humans…

"Alpha? What's wrong?" Charlie chirped when she noticed Alpha scenting the air with a  serious look on his face. He turned to Charlie "Stay here. I need to check something out" He left while Charlie waited, her eyes never leaving Alpha in case he needed something. Owen circled around the Brachiosaurus before coming across another Stegosaurus and a weird looking sharp-toothed dinosaur with a small horn on its snout.

The scent seems to be getting stronger here. He sniffed the ground and almost stepped back in shock. This familiar and sharp smell of humans was so familiar to Owen that his nose scrunched back at how strong it is. Unfamiliar yet familiar, reminiscent of his past as a human. Owen wanted to know where the scent leads but seeing as dusk was approaching and the girls hadn’t had food yet, he decided to investigate later. Hunting with the girls for food is necessary if they are to survive.

With a short bark for Charlie, the two left the scene.

***

The two arrived minutes after the nest was almost complete. Owen had to admire the girls’ skills on nest building. “So, where did you two go?” Blue asked as she lightly pushed Charlie slightly away from Alpha as she stood in between. The youngest didn’t even know what had just happened, eagerly recounting the events with Delta and Echo, the latter letting out noncommittal sounds of disinterest. “She seems happy” Blue stated and glanced at Alpha from the corner of her eye only to see him with a serious and worried look “Alpha, what’s wrong?” He glanced at Blue before barking at his girls to join in on the conversation.

“When we were at the Watering Hole, I scented soft meat - humans - there”

“Oh, so that’s what that nice place is called!” Charlie chirped with understanding.

“A water-what?” Echo barked with a confused trill.

“A nice place where all prey and predator play there” Charlie replied to which Echo’s eyes brightened.

“Oh, a nice place to find fresh kill.” She hissed when Delta pushed her to the side and snapped her jaws close to her snout.

“Why are you always like this Echo?  Also can we take note of what Alpha said on soft meat returning here” Delta chastised. Blue glanced at Alpha worriedly “Are you sure?” Owen nodded “I am sure. I recognized a human scent” There was silence around before it was broken by Charlie’s grumbling stomach.

“I’m hungry…” Echo groaned and hissed at the youngest “Didn’t you have small ones for food?” Charlie turned away “I still get hungry. I’m still growing…” Echo stared at her younger sister with an unbelievable look and her sisters say she’s the one who’s getting fat simply because she enjoys hunting a good game and eating what she finds. “Did we spoil you too much when we were hatchlings?” Charlie hissed at Echo.

“When you girls were hatchlings it's mostly Charlie who’s the silent one.” Owen commented, remembering the times Charlie would wander herself away from the group before Owen would coax her back, before barking at the girls “Lets go hunt for something light for now” With everyone in agreement, the pack set out for a light meal.

***

They were lucky enough to come across a Parasaurolophus that had wandered a bit further away from the group which is an easy picking for any predator that comes by. Said such predators were Owen and the Raptor Squad. They had just finished their meal and were about to head back to their newly built nest when there was a loud boom from somewhere that set the girls and Owen on edge.

“What was that?” Echo hissed, the sound felt so familiar that it sent her nerves on overdrive. Owen could not mistake that sound. It was the sound of a gun going off. Turning to his girls, Owen hissed, “Follow me and stay low” Was all he said before he darted off to the direction where he thought the sound was coming from.

The girls followed close behind and the scent of blood soon reached their senses as they ran forward. Owen stopped and crouched low, the girls followed as they parted the bushes obscuring their view and spotted a dead dinosaur.

“Spread out and search the area. If anyone finds something wrong, call for us” The girls barked in agreement before breaking off. Blue stayed behind, to which Owen appreciated for back-up as he slowly moved away from the coverage and out in the open. Slowly approaching the corpse, Owen’s senses were high alert with the thoughts of a human holding a gun and being a danger to the inhabitants of the island. Scenting the air and detecting the human scent that seemed to lead away from the corpse, Owen relaxed his vigilance slightly before standing straight and inspecting the corpse.

Blue sniffed at the corpse, finding nothing unusual until she scented something unusual at the head. Barking at Alpha, Blue gave space as Owen checked the head. Owen’s reptilian eyes searched the frontal part before a low growl bubbled out when he noticed a small hole that was on the head, a direct head shot.

This dinosaur died from a bullet wound.

Humans are back on the island and they're armed.

Chapter 3: Stampede and Lingering Fears

Chapter Text

Owen had mixed feelings about the humans arriving here on Isla Nublar. For one thing, he was sure that these people aren't the kind of people that come here with good intentions. Owen had no qualms punching and subduing a human for this but he doesn't have arms for punching, they were mainly used for tearing flesh and skin.

"Alpha, this one came with a pack" Blue said when she scented two more of the same scent as the dead dinosaur. "I picked up their scent, they headed this way!" Delta called out as she glanced at the direction the scents were leading.

Owen glanced at the path then at the corpse. Most likely the pack members went after the humans who did this to their own. "We'll head back to the nest. At most, if we follow the scent we might end up in the crossfire between the soft meats and the pack member of this one" Owen said. Echo looked like she wanted to protest but a growl and a glare from Blue stopped her.

The group made their way back but Blue wanted to take a small detour "Can we stop by this Watering Hole?" Owen gave her a look to which Charlie chirped "I don't mind going back" Delta chittered "I don't mind checking the place out. Also, someone has to keep an eye on her…" She turns to Echo who closes her jaws and looks away.

Owen grumbled but relented as he led them to the Watering Hole. When they got there, Charlie immediately pestered Echo into joining the water with her. Owen was slightly surprised to see Echo calmly entering without a fuss of wanting to kill at least one prey here, a look of relaxation on her face.

"It's beautiful here." Blue said before she leaned down and drank from the water. Delta lay down on the soft grass with a purr. Owen lowered his head and drank with Blue. Under the night sky, Owen relaxed and let himself enjoy for a moment.

Blue glanced at Owen and felt a purr bubble up. She likes this, a moment with Alpha to herself despite her sisters being there. Owen straightened up and felt Blue slide up on his side. He let out a confused noise to which she ignored and Owen didn't feel that uncomfortable so he let her.

"You are terrible at water fights!" Charlie squawked at Echo who huffed and hissed. Running on water is more difficult than running on land. Echo tried to pounce on Charlie but only met water. Owen watched them before he frowned when he caught something from the scent.

He growled before he spotted something flashing in the distance. "ECHO! CHARLIE! OUT OF THE WATER NOW!" He screeched just as there was a loud honking and yelling. Owen gawked when he saw a young boy riding on a Ankylosaurus waving flashlights over his head.

That was the last thing he saw before he and Blue were suddenly pushed into a run with a bunch of terrified dinosaurs, a stampede. "Alpha! I can't see you!" Delta cried out. As the only raptor that stayed slightly further out from the dinosaurs close to the watering hole, it was easy enough for her to escape the chaotic stampede.

"Find Echo and Charlie!" Owen roared, hoping it was loud enough for Delta to hear from the roars of other terrified dinosaurs. "Blue, stay close to me!" Owen said when he saw from the corner of his eye, his beta was running right beside him, eyes scanning on for a possible escape route.

Owen's reptilian eyes squinted from all the dust and dirt of the large dinosaurs. While he was running, he thought of what he just saw. He was pretty sure that the human he saw was just a young boy riding on the back of a dinosaur and the one riding on the jeep…he wasn't sure if it was an adult or a kid.

Right now, he needed to find an escape route for him and Blue.

***

Echo and Charlie were - thankfully - not swept up by the stampede since the dinosaurs went around the water so it was easy for Delta to find them. “There you are!” Delta barked as the two waded out of the water. Charlie looked around in confusion, not seeing two of their pack members “Where are Alpha and Blue?” Delta’s eyes went to the stampede and zeroed in on the perpetrators that started the stampede.

“We have to move and make sure they won’t get away!” Delta screeched. Alpha and beta aren’t here so she would have to take charge for now and right now, she wanted the two soft meats that started all this to pay. Echo and Charlie agreed but before they could ever so much as move, there was a loud gunshot and something hit across the top of Charlie’s head making her let out a screech.

“Cover!” Delta roared as they quickly darted for the bushes and away from the Watering Hole. Delta quickly inspected the wound only to feel relief when it only nicked her scales and they would heal in a few days. Echo growled, “We have to find soft meats who did this!” Her jaws were itching to tear through meat and flesh, specifically the ones that shot Charlie.

“I’m already on it” Delta growled as she picked up their scent and quickly led the pack to their targeted prey.

***

Thankfully, Owen and Blue managed to escape the stampede of herbivores by direct roaring and screeching at the faces of the dinosaurs which caused them to move away. As they safely made it to the forest, Owen and Blue stood still to catch their breath. “Blue, you okay?” Owen asked with a concerned, slightly panicked trill as he moved around to inspect his beta, making sure there were no injuries. Blue held back a delightful shiver as she stared at Alpha who was currently focused on checking for injuries to see the look on Blue’s face “I’m fine Alpha. Must find pack members” Blue chittered as Owen stopped inspecting Blue after finding nothing was wrong. The two raced back to the Watering Hole to see it empty and no sign of Delta, Echo and Charlie.

Owen called out to them and received no reply until he caught the sound of…children screaming?

Pinpointing the sounds, he barked at Blue before they broke into a run. Owen and Blue would soon catch wind of their scent and follow it to see this scene.

***

Darius and Brooklyn had no idea what to do. They were stuck in a Gyrosphere with Mitch and Tiff right outside with a rifle in Tiff’s hands. Seeing the situation that has spanned in just a couple of days, Darius regretted ever relying on help from other people for rescue. They were stuck on an island full of dinosaurs long thought to be extinct.

Who would actually come here without motive?

“You can’t stay in there forever and when you come out we’ll be right here waiting…” Tiff said with a smug look on her face. Darius and Brooklyn glanced at each other, wondering what to do when from the corner of their eyes, they saw three raptors glaring at the back of Mitch and Tiff.

Warning red flags entered Tiff's brain as she turned around and gasped when she saw the raptors with their jaws and claws out. She quickly aimed her rifle at each of them, daring to see which one would attack first while her husband had let out a yelp and stepped back, seeing as he didn't have a weapon.

"Stay back!"

This was the scene where Blue and Owen came in. Owen's eyes zeroed in on the rifle, aiming at Delta. Blue growled as her eyes narrowed but Owen was quick to react to her as he charged from the side and bit the rifle while Echo made the decision to pounce on Tiff.

Because Owen attacked first, Tiff felt her balance tilt sideways and avoided Echo’s pounce but now she was pinned under by a very enraged raptor. “Tiffany!” Mitch screamed and used a tablet to hit Owen on the head. Owen yelped and took a step back but didn’t release his hold on the rifle. Blue and Echo were quick to herd Mitch away from Tiff. Blue with a pissed off look on her face, roared as Mitch.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn and Darius were equally terrified and scared out of their minds. They recognized them, these were the raptors they saw on the first night at camp. Darius wasn't one to forget a frightful face, it was there he got his first brush of almost death until he was saved by Roxie and Dave.

Owen pried off the rifle and carelessly tossed it away to the bushes before snarling straight down at Tiff in a rage. Echo encouraged him to finish her off but Owen backed down. He barked at the girls to leave the man alone. Seeing as if the raptors had second thoughts about eating them, Mitch and Tiff quickly turned their backs and ran. Echo and Charlie almost chased after them when Owen roared at them not to.

"Alpha too soft!" Echo roared. Owen stumbled slightly back at Echo's sudden roar. Blue was quick enough to defend him. “Alpha worries for us. He’s not that soft!” Echo scoffed. “Alpha let bad soft meat get away. Danger to pack!” Owen could not refute Echo’s claims of him being soft to humans that might be a danger to them and to the other dinosaurs. The problem is that if he does kill those two, he might end up seeing the same look of horror and terror he saw in his dream a few nights ago.

That would bring down the hatchet that there might be no more human left in him.

Chapter 4: Misunderstanding an Understanding

Chapter Text

While the raptors were busy arguing, Darius and Brooklyn were quickly and warily trying to activate the Gyrosphere back online. There were suddenly multiple loud roars and all eyes turned to one direction to see a stampede of dinosaurs heading this way. Owen quickly roared for his girls to move while the kids screamed as they were tossed around like a football. Owen stopped to stare at the kids when he saw their Gyrosphere activate and manage to get away to which he sighed with relief.

A part of him wanted to go after them and make sure they’re okay but the big issue is that he was now in the form of a dinosaur, a predator. It was safe to say that they would run the minute they spot him. Also, it would have been better if there were fewer to none of the people to know about his…uniqueness.

So he went with his pack and they safely made it back to their nest. Echo had made her way to her side of the nest and lay down, facing away from Alpha and the rest of her sisters. Owen felt hurt as he stared at Echo with a small whimper coming out - though he made sure the rest of the girls’ hopefully wouldn’t hear it - and moved to the opposite side, feeling slightly like a father who had a fight with his daughter over something so trivial.

Except that it wasn't trivial and it was more about the safety of the pack. Owen knew that if he starts to show how soft or weak he might become, the girls wouldn't hesitate to usurp him or kill him.

Remembering the days he studied raptor behavior on Isla Sorna and the poor and disturbing way the ones deemed weak were treated made Owen want to make up with Echo right away and put this behind them.

Easier said than done.

In the neutral zones, Charlie and Delta watched Echo avoid Alpha so much that it made Alpha feel sad to the point that their hunts didn't feel that enthusiastic anymore. Even Blue looked irritable and snapped at anything except for her sisters and Alpha.

"This can't go on…" Charlie whimpered. She had no idea why Echo would be mad at Alpha for sparing some soft meat that wasn't a threat to pack without the metal thing that makes a loud boom. Delta, the likely observant one of the pack, knew Echo was more or less looking out for the pack and worried that such weakness of Alpha would endanger them in the future.

She would not say that Echo was wrong. It was just that her aggressively young sister wasn't careful enough with her mouth when she's like that.

Blue at this point was going to go mad with worry. She had no idea what to do to lift her Alpha's mood up and Echo avoiding him certainly wasn't helping the situation. Alpha had gone out to hunt on his own and Blue was quick to accompany him while Delta, Echo and Charlie stayed back in the nest.

"Alpha, are you okay?" Blue asked suddenly after they had finished their small meal and decided to walk back to the nest. Owen was slightly startled at the question but answered honestly.

He could never lie to his beta.

"Not good. I feel like I did something wrong and I'm trying to make up for it" To which Blue wanted to reply that he did nothing wrong and that it was Echo who was insensitive. "Echo has a point though" Owen said with a far off look on his face.

At some point, he would have to kill a human with these claws if they do pose a threat to them. The problem is that if he does, the blood would be directly on his hands - claws.

Being a human, it was easy not to see the bloody mess of your opponent when in firing range and at most when he used a knife, Owen was more on defense and subduing than actual killing. As a just person, Owen believed in second chances.

Killing was permanent, no second chances. Once you die then there's no turning back. In the Navy, it was easy for Owen not to hold himself back in destroying enemy fleets though there were times he would slip and would hesitate when enemies would begin shouting out excuses like having families or something important in their lives they can't just let go.

Those were the times Owen hesitated to shoot which gave some of the enemies the upper hand in trying to off him but instincts for survival were great for Owen who used to venture out so much in the woods that it was instinct enough for his body to move and pull the trigger if there was a slight chance of danger involved.

Back in the Navy, Owen always followed orders and never questioned them only when it contradicted his sense of justice but out here, there were no orders to follow, only rules on how to survive in the Animal Kingdom. The old phrase of kill or be killed.

Owen shook his head away from the memories and glanced down at his claws that were made for slicing and killing anything directly. No wonder the government was so bent on having raptors as part of the military service to aid in war time. They were equipped with literally the perfect tools for a killing machine.

"Alpha once was soft meat so beta understands" Blue replied as she softly nuzzled him. A part of Blue was happy Alpha stayed with them but another part of her felt sad that she - they would not be enough to quell the feeling of loneliness and the far off look when Alpha gazes into the distance.

Owen felt slightly better when Blue nuzzled him with a feeling of comfort. "Thanks Blue, you always have my back." Blue purred as the nuzzling increased. If a human were to stumble across them, they would surely misunderstand them as a mated pair. Well, to Blue it felt like that was the direction they were going.

Owen on the other hand felt like he was just being comforted by a close friend who he can trust.

***

"Echo, you have to apologize"

"No."

"Echo…"

"..."

Delta wanted to bark at Charlie to give up and give Echo some space, otherwise the youngest might support claw marks on her face for a time. Charlie opened her jaws to speak but an aggressive warning growl from Echo made her close her jaws and take a step back.

Charlie looked at Delta for help but she couldn't bring Echo out of her state like this. The only one who could bring a reaction out of her is Blue, who went out and hunted with Alpha.

Thus leaving two uncomfortable sisters and one aggressive sister.

Finally, as if by luck or someone answered Charlie's thoughts, Alpha and Blue finally came back and with fresh meat on their mouths. Charlie went and grabbed a bite which she immediately gobbled down before looking at Alpha with a pleading look on her face.

Alpha gave her a reassuring purr before heading towards Echo's direction. Echo perked up a bit when she glanced at Alpha who leaned his snout close to where her hearing was and whispered something to her to which she agreed with a chirp and they immediately darted out of the nest. Blue let out a surprised chirp as he body moved to follow only to be stopped by Delta.

"Let them go alone." She chirped much to Blue's squawked anger, "I think they both need this." No words were added as Delta moved to take her share of the meat Blue and Alpha brought  back before Charlie finished all of them.

***

Echo and Owen darted across the forest, searching for suitable prey for two raptors. When Owen asked Echo to have a hunt with him, just the two of them, Echo wondered what Alpha was doing but she was not opposed to having a hunt.

So long as Alpha isn't too soft on the prey this time.

They came across a suitable prey (Pachycephalosaurs) and the two made quick work of a juvenile one while it wandered far from its parent. Naturally, the parent made a move to defend and attack. Owen didn't charge like a normal raptor should. He waited before jumping to the side and attacked the neck of the parent.

The parent screeched as Owen clumsily tried to use his claws. It didn't kill the parent but it did drive it away and leaving the child to defend itself as the parent let out a mournful roar before disappearing.

As Echo held the juvenile down with a painful stab from her dew claws, Owen was quick to kill it from the jugular, ending its misery.

Echo watched from the sidelines. It suddenly occurred to her that when she charged at the soft meat, the metal thing was raised in her direction. If Alpha hadn't moved, Echo would have been severely injured or died.

Once that metal thing was gone perhaps Alpha thought they wouldn't be much of a good hunt. At most they would scream and attract other predators. That would spell out as bad for the pack. While Echo was having this kind of understanding as she ate, Owen thought that this hunt had calmed the raptor down for both of them to talk it out without someone getting hurt or bitten by it.

"Echo, I know you're right about what you said. However I'm still adjusting. I don't think I could quickly get used to killing my own species" Echo had no idea what to say since killing the same species seemed about right for her should they pose a threat to the pack.

"I won't judge Alpha. Alpha is not soft. Alpha hunts smart. I did not see the danger I placed myself in.” Owen had no idea what she was talking about but seeing as it calmed her down he replied “Don’t worry about it Echo. So long as you don’t stop looking out for the pack” Echo barked and playfully shoved him to the side.

Thus raptor and human-raptor reached an understanding with a little bit of misunderstanding along the way.

***

Blue glanced at Echo then at Alpha. It seemed the two made up but why was Echo sticking close to Alpha?!

Seeing the look Blue was giving her, Echo could not help but tease her a bit more “Might need to catch up a little, sister. For once I might actually win” Of course, this was purely for the sake of pissing Blue off as the blue striped raptor pushed herself in between Owen and Echo and hissed at her sister with a warning glare.

However, if Alpha comes to her willingly, who was Echo to say no to her Alpha.

Delta watched Echo and Alpha interact with little less tension and felt herself calm immediately. Thankfully, nothing big happened. Charlie glanced at the two with a confused expression on her face "How did they made up? Why exactly did they leave without us in the first place?" Delta was quick to tell her to drop the subject otherwise, the elder raptor was sure the youngest would pester her with questions again.

Chapter 5: Ominous Discovery

Chapter Text

Weeks after the day the humans came to the island, Owen was on constant patrol around the nest and oftentimes scouted the area they were hunting. Despite a part of him saying that he was just paranoid and that nothing will happen considering they were very much equipped to deal with anything, he couldn’t help his human side being paranoid at anything and everything after that scare.

Upon further inspection of the rifle - to which Owen quickly tossed out to the sea - Owen guessed that the people came here for either of two or both: One, they kill dinosaurs and use their skins to sell them or they were associated with InGen and were out gathering whatever they could find here.

Neither of the two is safe for Owen so he had spent restless nights on the first few days.

It was confirmed later that the adults were probably killed when Charlie spotted a boat drifting on the rocks filled with scratch marks of a dinosaur big enough to stand on the boat and large enough to make those marks on the ship’s walls.

It still didn’t relax Owen’s vigilance of the next humans coming to the island.

***

“I worry about Alpha” Charlie couldn’t help but bark out as they watched Alpha disappear once again from the thicket. Delta and Echo worried too but they were a bit more understanding as to why Alpha was acting like this. Blue let out a chirp before standing up and following after Alpha “Make sure both of you come back early” Delta roared out.

She doubted the beta had heard her as she was already gone by then. Echo watched the trees from the opened doors before snorting and lying down “Better get some sleep else I would be the last one to wake” Echo said and Charlie moved to the same position though she vowed she would stay awake until Blue and Alpha returned but Delta tapped her dew claws twice on each side before Charlie was out for their afternoon nap.

Delta grumbled as she watched Charlie move around and kicked Echo’s side to which the poor raptor grunted and moved away.

***

Blue found Alpha close to their old nest, his eyes on the horizon with a grimace on his face. Blue let out a small chitter as she moved to stand beside Alpha. The sun glared down at them from the shade of the trees and neither moved from their spot.

"The girls are worried aren't they?" Owen huffed, gaze not turning around. Blue barked out a reply "We are worried Alpha. Soft meat won't dare to try and take us easily" As much of a reassurance it is, Owen did not feel that much better. He knows how humans would go through such lengths to get what they want in life.

He just didn't want to take any chances.

"Let's go back. I think I've seen enough for today" Owen said to which Blue let out an agreeing bark before they made their way back to the nest. They ran for close to 10 minutes when Owen yelped as he stumbled and skidded to a stop.

Blue let out a worried chirp and looked around for anything that caused her Alpha to act like that. Owen huffed and turned back to find out that feeling he felt on his feet. Sniffing on the ground, he snorted when he came across a bunch of flowers.

He raised his head slightly only to frown when he spotted a bush of flowers. That would've been a normal thing to see if the flowers in the center didn't look right. He hesitantly placed his snout close to them only to rear back when he felt coldness spreading and the flowers he just touched literally broke like glass.

"Alpha?" Blue peered from behind as Owen moved the flowers away. Owen stared down at the vent and although he felt the coldness coming. It was more like a residue of the coldness, whatever happened to the electricity that was running it was gone now. All that was left now to tell that it used to be cold was the coldness from the metal of the grate and the frozen flowers.

Owen didn't think much of it as he barked at Blue and they proceeded to head back to the nest to rest up and have a nightly hunt.

***

Somewhere deep and hidden away. What should have been a winter wonderland ice cold room was now warming up and with it, the cylinder that held something in started to slowly crack and break open.

There was no movement from what was within the cylinder of ice but the only thing visible was cold red eyes opened and looking around rapidly.

***

A quick drink from the Watering Hole was the last plan Owen had for today after their meal with two Gallimimus. Owen had to hand it to him, he still had that quick learner talent when it comes to learning new skills.

As soon as he and the girls were finished drinking, they quickly left the scene and headed to their nest. The 5 were unaware of the changes that were slowly taking place.

It started out small till it rapidly grew.

***

It was free.

The creature growls as it struggles out of the last remaining prison that is stuck to it. Its nose and eyes took in everything only for it to growl in anger when the sight it saw was the same as it was when it was still unable to move.

Pain.

Cold.

It was so cold.

It needed something.

Something to stop this pain! This… cold !

It blindly slashed at anything until it managed to hit and break the metal door off its hinges. It chittered as it saw red. The first red it was was an innocent Compy and red was the only color it saw and it was…A nice red…a warm , tempting red.

A pained scream from the poor Compy echoed the dim halls as the creature held its dead body in his mouth. He dropped the creature once the red was gone.

He looked around and there was no red.

Red.

Where is the red?

Cold.

Where is…red?

It ran to whatever direction it wanted and found itself somewhere…fresh, clean and…new.

It looked around and let out curious sounds but then its eyes locked on red.

So many red.

Red.

RED.

RED!

It let out a very screeching roar that echoed the entire island. Once heard, every instinct of the dinosaurs let out warning signals and red flags.

Back in the Raptor Nest, Owen's head shot up and he looked around. He had no idea why but something in his gut tells him that something was off.

"...Alpha…?" Blue let out a questioning chirp once she felt Alpha moved from his sleeping position right beside her. Owen shook her head and blinked before purring lightly at Blue.

"It's nothing Blue. Go back to sleep" Blue nuzzled against Owen and fell back asleep. The raptor squad slept close to each other right about now with the exception of Echo who seemed to be Charlie's favorite kicking bag when she slept.

Owen hoped that the words he said were true as he curled himself close to the nearest warm source of heat and fell asleep as soon as he made sure there weren't any weird sounds.

***

Three raptors were night hunting tonight. Freedom has done them good for enhancing their skills and social skills to each other without the interruption of soft meats.

They had just targeted a single dinosaur which was standing at the edge of the forest when the herd suddenly let out roars and started to run away. The raptors were confused. All three were chittering to each other and wondered if they had made a mistake when there was an unusual chitter behind them and they all turned their heads fast enough to see something black pounce on them.

Chapter 6: Red in The Dark

Chapter Text

What woke Owen and the rest of the pack wasn’t a screech of a dinosaur’s wake up call. No, what woke them up was the sound of Blue roaring and barking at the door to their nest. Owen immediately scrambled to stand, shaking the sleepiness off while Delta chirped and shook her head as she slowly stood up. Echo was already charging to where Blue was despite the sleepiness in her eyes.

Charlie, however, remained asleep until Delta forcefully nudged her awake. The youngest looked around in confusion until she noticed that everyone was crowding at the entrance to their nest so she joined them in finding out what was going on.

***

Owen was stunned when he noticed three familiar raptors lying close to death at the entrance of their nest.  They were covered in bruises and claw marks on their body. At least two or three spikes were on each of them.

The only thing that reassured Owen that they are alive and not…dead was their steady but heavy breathing.

"Get them inside" Owen ordered and Delta was the first one to object "Something happened to them during their night hunt and that might come after us if they can track his scent"

The girls growled to themselves before hauling in the three injured raptors. Owen closed the doors and looked around for anything that might come as a way to patch them up. "You girls stay here and make sure nothing happens to them." Owen said as he made his way to the door.

The sharp screech of one raptor made Owen stop and look at them "Alpha. Bad Predator. Like the Great One." One of the raptors wheezed out before falling back to unconsciousness.

Great One.

That sent a shudder through Owen and uncomfortable looks by the girls. Owen narrowed his eyes "Keep an eye on them. I'll be back." Blue barked out after him "I'm coming with you." She and Owen then darted out, leaving Delta, Echo and Charlie to care for the raptors.

"I didn't even get to eat" Echo huffed.

***

The nearest lab was the one close to the raptor pen. How did Owen know this? Well, when a man's raptor territory suddenly gets a notice that a lab will be set up close to the pen, Owen knew he had to check it out even if he might get caught.

Anything that screamed wrong to him, Owen had to check it out.

"Alpha, wait!" Blue barked as they stopped right in front of the lab. Owen knew why she did, the scent here smelled…wrong.

"Careful Blue." Owen said as he glanced around before proceeding to move to the lab door. Once again, Owen desperately wished he had opposable thumbs to twist the doorknob open.

He growled in frustration. Time was ticking and if he doesn't get something soon, those three girls might end up having serious side effects.

***

"Pull!" Delta roared as Charlie and Echo quickly pulled out the spikes and small amounts of blood began pouring out as each raptor roared out in pain.

"Encountered Killer while hunting. Barely escaped and found your nest. Lost feeling of everything then"

The leader, the only raptor that got hit by a single spike, was the first one awake and told the story. Fatigue and numbness in her body was felt everywhere. Her sisters were still not up, alive but not awake as they breathed heavily.

Thankfully, color seemed to come back to their scales after Charlie and Echo pulled out the spikes.

"Alpha went to get something to heal wounds" Delta informed them. She was surprised when the leader sprang up and the horror and fear present on her face. "Cannot go out! Killer dangerous! Kills anything" Echo straightened up.

"We find Alpha and Blue, now!" As she made a move to head out, her tail was grabbed by Delta who gave a chastising bite. "You doubt their skills?" Echo growled at Delta before answering "You don't worry for them?!"

"I always worry but we have to trust their skills to come back. We wait until the light circle breaks"

Echo wanted to protest but a pleading chirp from Charlie made her relent as she went to a soft patch of laid out grass and layed down.

All three hoped Alpha and the beta would come back safe as they heard an unfamiliar roar in the distance.

***

Since the lab was a total bust, considering Owen can't even grip the knob tight enough for it to turn, he decided on the next best thing: His Bungalow.

It wasn't that far from the raptor pen and Owen was sure that some dino would already be living in that area. He and Blue made their way towards his Bungalow very much unaware of red eyes spotting them in the distance and locking them in.

***

Red.

No Red anywhere.

Where are Red?

A sniff and one final glance around before it locked its eyes on two individuals moving further away.

Ah…see Red.

Two Red.

…I..wAnT…ReD.

***

Finally, they made it to the Bungalow. Owen grimaced when he saw plant vines beginning to grow on the porch. Making his way up, the entrance door was off its hinges, clearly some dinosaur entered her by force. Sniffing around and confirming that there was no one, Owen barked at Blue to come in.

Blue chittered as she cautiously entered inside. She looked around at the area she had visited with her sisters before and didn’t feel well to see Alpha’s old nest look like...this. Seeing Blue’s uncomfortable look, Owen gave her a reassuring purr before he searched through the mess for the extra medical kit he always kept in case of emergencies.

Owen finally spotted the white box and quickly pulled the lid off with his jaw, being careful not to break it. He growled once he realized he needed someone to inject the medicine in the raptors and he can’t exactly do that with a three fingered claw without opposable thumbs.

But one of the kids might.

Owen and the rest of the pack had picked up their scents from time to time close to the docks and he would often see them heading to their makeshift tree house. Owen wondered how to communicate with them while being under the guise of a normal raptor when Blue suddenly growled and crouched low as she faced off in one direction.

Owen barked and wondered what was wrong when he caught it as well. Pulling Blue behind the counter, Owen crouched low beside her, breathing heavily and his tail instinctively wrapped itself beside Blue who blinked at the sudden action.

At first there was nothing there but the rustling sound of bushes and leaves until an unnatural growl echoed and the trees parted enough for a pair of red eyes visible in the dark as if they were glowing. Owen took a peek and the creature emerged and to Owen, the Idominus Rex looked more like a nightmare than this hellish looking dinosaur.

A black scaled dinosaur with a brachycephalic muzzle, red eyes with slit pupils set high on its skull, a prominent overbite and jagged, uneven teeth. What the hell? When did InGen create this kind of dinosaur Frankenstein?!

The first and possibly the only thing he noticed in the dark was its red eyes. The eyes seem to pierce through him and render him motionless as Owen stares at it longer.

It was big.

It was dangerous.

The creature let out an ear piercing scream that made Owen and Blue wince as they quietly snarled as the creature slowly made its way inside the Bungalow.

Most of all, It was hideous .

Chapter 7: The Creature

Chapter Text

Owen and Blue huddled close together as the creature entered the Bungalow. Blue scanned the surroundings, looking for an escape route. While she had half a mind to attack the creature, something deep inside her told her not to engage.

Owen had the same thought as well. The creature hissed and roared and when it did, Owen was sure his ears would break. This creature's roar was something of a mix of a mic with a mix of volume settings.

Grabbing the small box by the mouth, Owen carefully guided him and Blue around the counter as the creature continued to sniff and scan the area. Owen and Blue kept their eyes on the creature as it growled and narrowed its eyes.

Seeing that they were close to the door, Owen shuffled closer when the creature suddenly snapped its head in their direction just as Blue was halfway out the door. The creature roared and pounced just as Blue jumped outside.

***

The creature entered the place…what was it called? Nest? The creature didn't think much of it. It was more interested in the missing red. It sniffed the area and caught its scent though the creature wasn't sure if they were still around.

It didn't matter, what mattered was the red is here and it may just still be here.

The creature jumped on top of the counter to get a better view. It still didn't see the red but their scent is still here. The creature let out a growl of frustration and narrowed its eyes.

Something told it to quickly turn around and it saw one red still inside while the other red was already out.

RED!

The creature roared and pounced but missed red.

The chase was on.

***

The two darted to the bushes just as the creature tore apart a section of a wall and ran after them. Owen thought they would be safe if they lost it in the safety of the coverage of bushes and trees but what surprised him was that it always found them wherever they were.

Almost as if it saw where we are.

Having to deal with a hybrid like the I-Rex first hand, Owen thought of the skills the I-Rex had that would be similar to this one.

They both are terrifying.

They have the same red eyes and aggressive nature.

None of these were helpful to Owen as he and Blue made a sharp left turn. The only significant thing that the I-Rex had which terrified him was the fact that it could camouflage itself and hide its heat signature.

Owen paused as he looked back on his thoughts before barking out to Blue "Follow me. I need to see something" As much as Blue wanted to roar at Alpha as to why he wanted to see something while they are being chased, she trusted Alpha's decision if he spotted something she can't see.

Owen quickly told Blue to his behind the rock in front of them while he hunkered down to a pile of bushes. In the dark, it would almost be impossible to see him unless…

Owen jumped away just as he saw the red eyes move towards him but completely ignored Blue as she ran after them, roaring and barking loudly.

I knew it…this guy's got thermal vision.

Owen cursed loudly in his head. He and Blue needed to get away from this creature and fast. They can't outrun this guy for long as they would soon tire out and then that would be the perfect time for this guy to catch them.

We need more heat..

Owen sniffed around, hoping to catch at least a whiff of any other dinosaur with bigger heat signatures than they are combined. Running side by side, the two made a break for the nearest scent of dinosaurs.

***

"Can't we just leave them somewhere away from the nest?" Echo asked as she watched the three raptors from where they were.  "We wait for Alpha to get back and decide what to deal with them" Delta said although she also agreed with Echo on her line of thought.

Injured raptors around the nest is a bad decision. Scent of the injured can lead to predators to find the nest. However, Delta was quick to notice how there hasn't been any scent of a predator coming close to the nest. What's more, the area surrounding the nest was quiet.

Way too quiet.

Delta wasn't sure if she liked this. An uneasy feeling bubbled up inside her as she guarded the front door to spot any intruders. Charlie grew curious at the spikes she had just pulled out from the three and decided to play with one of them.

She let out a yelp when she tasted something at the end of the barb and spat it out. Her tongue was immediately tingling. Echo came up to her with an enraged look with worry and concern mixed in with anger. "Charlie! Look what you got yourself into…" Charlie opened her mouth and her tongue flopped as she swayed and spoke.

"Mah…tongue…eels…unny" Charlie let out. What the girls actually heard from the youngest was a series of unknown noises they had never heard before "You sound funny…" Echo barked, which earned a push from the youngest.

"You don't feel anything else other than that?" Delta narrowed her eyes at the youngest to which Charlie replied with a "Oooo…izzy…ubing.." Which Delta understood and confused Echo.

"Alpha, you and Blue better get back here in one piece"

***

Thankfully, Owen and Blue managed to find themselves on a herd of Stegosaurus. They did try to swat at them with their tails with which the raptors nimbly dodged but then they began to run in the opposite direction. It was there that the creature roared and began chasing the herd. Having found a much bigger thermal heat than Owen and Blue.

Not liking to rest out in the open, the two headed to a much safer area with lots of rocks located and rested. Owen dropped the medical kit which was now filled with his saliva as he panted.

"Alpha. That Killer is dangerous" Blue growled softly. She could feel it deep inside her throwing warning roars whenever it got too close to them. She wasn't one to back down from a fight but something about this creature didn't seem right. Owen let out a noise of agreement as he scanned the area. If he guessed right, they might be close to the old Jurassic Park's Visitor's Center.

"We're almost home Blue. We just need to find someone who could help with this" Owen said as he gestured to the box "Why are we even helping them?" Blue couldn't help but slightly complain. As much of a great help they were in destroying the Fake Alpha back then, they were more of a  hindrance now and a danger to Alpha.

Just look at how much danger they put Alpha in simply because they got injured and Alpha was the first thing they thought off.

Sometimes, Blue wanted to tell Alpha off that having this kind of trait could give him an easy death but it was this kind of trait she was so used to having and selfishly trying to exploit whenever.

Owen placed his snout close to Blue "I know Blue but this is why I do it." Owen knew what he was doing might make the girls question his decisions again but he has no regrets. It comforts him to know at least some characteristics of him were still human.

Right, they got the kit but what they needed right now are a pair of human hands. Something Owen is clearly lacking. Now he is against kidnapping children but -

***

The two raptors eyed the makeshift tree house the kids made. Owen had to give the kids a respectful look from what they did to the remains of the camp.

He scanned to see a few of them on top but there was one who stayed below. It was a dark skinned boy that looked oddly familiar.

Blue growled when she recognized one of them. "Alpha. That hatchling tried to usurp Alpha position in the pack" Owen glanced at Blue with a bewildered look on his face. The kid did what?

He had no idea what Blue just barked out when she recounted to him what had happened prior to him getting up from his bed by a call from Barry about his raptors.

It turns out it was these kids that entered the raptor pen by themselves. When Barry explained to him what had happened, Owen only knew that kids entered the pen. He had no idea of their names or physical description.

Well, now he knows.

Owen stared at the kid as he wrote something in his notebook. Owen had an idea on how to lure the kid out. From the way he was staring at the stray Compies with a starry eyed look, it would be easier to draw a dino geek out in the open if he sees something that would be totally unnatural for a raptor to do.

Well, Owen can do the unnatural.

***

Darius had just been updating his notebook and realized that there were still some more dinosaurs he had yet to write about in his book. The raptor notes he had were more in line with what Ian Malcolm wrote in his book.

Darius wasn't sure he wanted to find out if he ever got the chance to meet a raptor. From the way they were described, they were smarter than any dinosaur here on the island, fast and have excellent pack hunting skills. Three things that would quickly put Darius in a body bag or on the mouth of a raptor.

His musings were cut short when there was rustling in the bushes. He froze when there was a familiar hiss and chittering. He wanted to call out to his friends from above the house but he refrained when a snout slowly became visible in the dim lighting of the house.

In the darkness, forest green eyes met brown ones.

Chapter 8: Unnatural Behavior

Summary:

Sorry for the slightly short chapter. Lately I have been busy with other stuff that kept me slightly away from this for the time being.

Chapter Text

Was Darius dead? He was pretty sure he was still alive since he felt his heart pounding so fast in his chest. Then, why was it that he couldn't breath?

Darius let out a breath that he had been holding as a raptor's face parted from the bushes. The raptor in front of him let out a curious but soft purr.

"Uh…guys?" He called out and all activities from above stopped. They peered down fron where they are and tensed when they saw the raptor. "Darius get away from there!" Brooklyn cried out as Ben quickly grabbed anything to serve as a weapon and slid down using the slide and got in front of Darius.

Seeing the hostility, Blue broke cover and hissed and roared at them, placing herself beside Owen. There was another roar and Owen blinked when he and Blue were suddenly facing a blue Ankylosaurus that let out a threatening roar at the two and banged its tailed club twice on the ground in warning.

Owen rose to his full height and barked at Blue to stand down. Darius pulled Ben away who looked like he had half the mind to charge at the two raptors with his weapon. "Guys, calm down." Darius said when he noticed from the corner of his eyes, the green eyed raptor holding a medical kit and looking at him.

"Look at what he’s holding…”

“Oh great, can a raptor distinguish a medical kit?”

As Owen moved closer to the blue fence, Bumpy let out a roar and swung his club at Owen who dodged and made Blue roar and tried to swipe at Bumpy’s face with her claws. Seeing the agitated raptors, Darius quickly told Ben to placate Bumpy to stand down. The boy looked at Darius with surprise and confusion.

“Are you nuts? And let them have the upper hand for an ambush?” Ben asked incredulously. Even Darius knew what he was asking might lower their defense and give the raptors a chance to attack but something in Darius told himself that the way the raptor was acting wasn’t normal.

He had to check it out.

"Just lower it down slowly, we don't want to agitate it… especially the one with the blue streak " Darius thought the last part with slight terror. He remembered that raptor, the look in her eyes that speaks of literally slicing and chomping off every meat in his body made him gulp.

Ben gripped his weapon tightly as he slowly went out of the blue fence protecting their camp and laid a hand on top of Bumpy's head. The Ankylosaurus let out a confused roar as Ben slowly made him back up slowly, not taking his eyes off of the raptors.

His glare made Blue hiss which Darius pointed out "Don't stare at her directly, she'll think you're challenging her" To which Ben's eyes went elsewhere aside from Blue's eyes.

"Ease up Blue, they just lowered their defenses" Owen said, his mind calculating how dangerous the kids might pose in the pack. If he was human, he wouldn't hesitate to walk up and talk to them like an adult but he's not human now and since seeing the kids survived here on the island for weeks on end, they must pose some level of threat.

As Blue straightened up from her crouching position, she eyed the Ankylosaurus and Ben warily. Darius waited for the raptors to do anything but they seemed to be waiting for something as well.

What were they waiting for?

In any case, they need to find a way to make the raptors leave without them attacking. Who knows how many there are in the bushes.

***

Owen was getting frustrated. They were running out of time and he was pretty sure the raptors back in their nest would be too. Once he was sure that the Ankylosaurus and the boy who was giving out commands of the Ankylosaurus, Owen quickly dropped the medical kit he was carrying and darted through the fenced camp.

Everyone screamed and yelped. Bumpy roared as Ben let out a yell and raised his weapon only to step back when Blue hissed and roared close to his face.

Every gut instinct in Owen that was raptor was berating him for this foolish attempt. Actually, it had been steadily growing ever since he brought those three raptors in.

He grabbed a terrified Darius by the scruff of his white shirt before dragging the boy off out of the fenced area. Blue grabbed the fallen box as the two quickly made their way deep in the bushes.

"Darius!" His friends screamed. They had literally been shocked to stillness by the events that had just happened right before their eyes. They quickly moved to follow their friend, grabbing whatever they could use as weapons.

They followed to the direction the raptors left.

***

Dariues screamed as he was dragged off before he was thrown to the ground. He sat up and came face to face with the green eyed raptor. He froze as the raptor huffed and the other one dropped the medical kit to his lap.

Darius blinked and glanced up in surprise and slight confusion. The green eyed raptor growled before shoving him forward. Darius then realized that the raptors wanted him to head in this direction.

A part of him wanted to run but he knew that would be futile and it would only serve to anger the raptors. Something he did not want.

They need him for something he wasn't sure what it was but it was better than being eaten alive after he was captured.

The green eyed raptor shoved him again and this time with a bark. Darius quickly sped up the pace, bosy tense and all possible escape plans formulating in his mind.

He was entering dangerous territories and one of which is the unnatural behavior of the green eyed raptor. Darius would go so far as to say that the raptor almost acted like a human if the expressive green eyes had something to say.

But he might just be halucinating. He had been stuck on Isla Nublar long enough.

Chapter 9: Unnatural Behavior Pt. 2

Chapter Text

Darius had been walking along the road before the green eyed raptor hissed and got in front of him. The raptor then turned to the blue streaked raptor and began conversing with her. Darius had no idea what they were conversing about but the blue streaked raptor gave him a hiss and glare before she darted off.

Which means he's now alone with the green eyed raptor. The one who Darius thinks might be the most intelligent one from its pack.

Darius avoided eye contact at all costs while the raptor in front of him made inquisitive noises. The raptor tilted its head to the side while Darius blinked and glanced directly at the raptor before averting his eyes.

The raptor was obviously male based on the crest and how different he looked from the blue streaked raptor and the fact the raptor looked a bit like the male velociraptors on Isla Sorna from Ian Malcolm's book, he wasn't sure how but he was sure that the raptor pen had no males back when he, Kenji and Brooklyn broke in and thought it was the Compy Pen.

The only reason he didn't run right away is because he knows his friends will be out looking for him…and for some reason, he felt the male raptor before him could be trusted.

Crazy right?

***

For once, Owen was glad the kid was behaving obediently, otherwise he might have done something drastic to make sure the boy stayed still. All he needed to do was to help with sending the meds to the three raptors and send him off before the kid could notice anything more unnatural than he was already displaying.

There is also the fact that black monster is still roaming around and all sensors within Owen were used up to their max. Any sudden sound or movement had his claws and feet raking and his jaws threatening to burst forth in a warning roar.

These things were noticeable enough for Darius to scan his surroundings as well. He didn’t know when it started but subtle changes in a span of minutes on the island made him wonder what was going on. First, he noticed that there were a lot less Compies around their camp or anywhere in the whole island at most he’d see three or close to five of them but that would be it. Then there was the agitation of the dinosaurs both herbivores and carnivores. The herbivores grew aggressive to almost anything that wasn’t familiar to them or part of their herd.

The carnivores were a bit confusing. They were being chased less - despite it being a good thing it was quite alarming for a dinosaur that needs meat to survive - and when they found signs of a carnivorous nest, it was freshly abandoned. Not only that it looked like the nest had just been made for a few days before the carnivores decided to leave.

So, yeah. Whatever agitated this raptor is stressing Darius so much he was slightly squeezing the medical kit a little too tightly.

There was a slight rustle and both heads turned to the bushes only for Owen to bark upon seeing Blue appear and behind her were the three raptors with Delta and Echo. “Oh crud…” Darius gasped when he saw the sluggish way the three raptors seem to be moving. The three stumbled before falling to the ground as Echo and Delta circled around him, blocking any means of escape.

Darius blinked. Did the raptors think he was a veterinarian for dinosaurs? Well, he wasn’t even sure if they knew the word “vet”.

The male raptor moved and pushed him forward towards the three raptors who looked at him with different amounts of killing intent. The male raptor hissed and screeched at them as they avoided looking at him and settled down. Darius took note that the other three raptors standing were on high alert and if he read anything about raptors, the weak ones were always expendable to the pack.

But this time, the raptors were doing everything to save their pack members, a behavior Darius hadn’t seen in the written books about all the facts on raptors. Guess not all is true in the books, you just gotta experience it first hand.

Darius knelt down beside the raptors, a bit further than intended, before opening the medical kit. He stared at the single syringe before turning to the male raptor and dared himself to ask “A-are you sure?” Owen barked and nudged him forward.

Truthfully, Owen wasn’t sure if the stuff inside the syringe was going to work but it was handed to the trainers by InGen in case any of the raptors fell ill to any sort of disease or toxins from outside forces.

Well, it was time to test it.

The raptors hissed and glared at the young boy holding the syringe with distrust in their eyes, to which Owen couldn't blame them. All their life till reaching adulthood they spent their lives inside a space of four walls with no sunlight for fresh air with only the smell of a sanitized lab. It didn’t surprise him if they immediately recognized a syringe and what it does.

“Bad human. Painful weapon!” The leader hissed to which Owen replied “That human can heal you. I can’t because…I don’t have the right structure” Owen glanced down at his three fingered claws and grimaced slightly, feeling powerless.

Darius isn’t sure how much dosage he was going to inject to the raptors but he divided the dose equally to the three. At first they were a bit hesitant and hissed at him but when the male raptor barked and let out a bunch of chittering noises the raptors calmed down enough for Darius to inject each of them with the serum.

As soon as that was done, there was a change in the raptors as they stopped circling and blocking his escape routes. He felt a snout snatching the back of his shirt and dragging him away from the circle of raptors and dropping him a few feet away from them. He stood back up slowly as the raptors let out warning hisses.

Darius took that as a sign that his role was done and that he should leave.

Keeping his eyes on them, he made sure his back wasn’t turned to them until they were out of sight before he turned and sprinted back. Retracing his footsteps, he just made it pass a tree when he yelped out in surprise before falling on his butt as did Bumpy who reared back as he roared in surprise.

“Darius!” Various calls of relief and hugs came as Darius flailed his arms around, not sure where to place them “We’re so glad you’re alright” Yas said as she watched them finish their hugs. She only gave him a pat in the shoulder before she moved away for the others to glomp him. “We were worried somethin’ bad happened” Sammy said as she scanned Darius for any injury.

“Well, let’s just say I had an eventful experience” Darius said, his whole body relaxing. “Did the raptors follow you?” Ben asked, looking around to which Darius frowned but then shook his head. “No, I don’t think they had the time to follow me. They needed me to take care of their fallen pack members” There was silence all around as the kids tried to digest what Darius had just said.

“Um..dude, you know that dinosaurs aren’t that intelligent on a human level, right?” Kenji asked, hoping he was right “You’re right but this pack is different. None of their behaviors match up to the ones I know from the books or on TV documentaries. This is an unnatural behavior”

“Do you think this has something to do with how the dinosaurs we see so far are acting out?” Brooklyn asked, to which Darius has no answer. “I’m not sure. Let’s head back to camp first. I’d rather discuss more there than out in the open” Sounds of various dinosaurs echoed through the night as the kids hastily returned to their camp home.

***

After various discussions and more fussing from Sammy and Brooklyn on Darius, the kids went to their separate beds to sleep, hoping that tomorrow would be a brand new day and a good start to make new plans on how to get off the island.

Darius found himself still awake somehow. The memory of the green eyed raptor flashing through his mind from time to time. Taking out his notebook, he skimmed through the pages until he landed on the section where the raptor details were.

He stared at the drawing of a raptor before he grabbed a pen and started adding little details to it, like the crest and the way it stood.

By the time he realized what he was doing, the green eyed raptor stared back at him through the pages. The eyes that may look reptilian did resemble the expressive eyes of a human.

He closed the notebook but not before naming the raptor "Alpha" because clearly, the raptor he met commanded the pack to obey his commands of not killing him and even sent him off.

This went against everything Darius knows about raptors and it sent a thrill to be able to discover such a pack.

His mind shifted to the three injured raptors and hoped for the best that they survived. He wondered as to where they got such injuries.

***

By morning, Owen was amazed by the biology of dinosaurs having such ability to quickly heal any external injuries. The three raptors felt sluggish but they could move again and even talk without sounding like they might die after a few words.

The three raptors also didn't stay long, knowing they were intruding on their nesting grounds despite Owen telling them he invited them in. Once again, Owen wasn't that hard minded when it comes to others invading their territories except his girls.

"Let's not do this again Alpha" Delta chirped once the three raptors disappeared from their sights. Owen didn't say anything so Delta took it as a sign of agreement before walking back to the nest.

Owen was more concerned over the creature that had done those injuries to the girls. He knew that it had thermal vision so it could track their heat signatures even from far away. Also, from the way it attacked him and Blue before it changed course to the Stegosaurus herd, Owen can think that its mind is more on killing for sport than survival just like the Indominus Rex.

Thinking of the white monster made Owen lightly hiss. He thought that nightmare was over and that all they had to worry about was carnivores bigger than them and stampeding herds with the possibility of occasional human visits of the island.

Clearly, the universe loved to mess with him to prove him wrong.

Chapter 10: Meet the Cousins

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Despite the threat of the creature on the island, Owen continued to lead the pack on hunts like it was a normal Monday morning without the looming dark threat over them.

Although, finding a herd that wasn't aggressive to almost anything that came near them is almost impossible. Delta had voiced out that something bad is happening to the prey that is causing them to act like this. Owen wasn't surprised by her quick assessment; Delta is the smartest raptor next to Blue.

Owen and Blue decided to tell the rest of the pack what they know so far of the predator that attacked them. When Echo heard of that, she had almost ran out to find the thing itself and attack it. Delta had managed to pull her back by the tail.

Owen hissed at Echo to never do that. At most he got information from the three raptors on their account upon meeting the creature.

Avoid the spikes on the tail.

Watch the claws.

Fast.

Moves weird.

Okay, that covers what to avoid. How to defeat it - Owen is still thinking of possible solutions for that. He and the girls traveled further from their nest to search for food. They managed to snag a few Pachycephalosaurus and Parasaurolophus but most of them were juveniles.

By the time they were finished, the sun was rising high and it was time for them to head back to their nest. They took the quickest and shortest route to their nest. For Owen, it was a miracle they got to have a decent meal. Ever since the appearance of that creature, Owwn noticed how unbalanced the natural order of the dinosaurs became.

The human part of him wanted to deal with the threat but the raptor part of him opted for the safety of the pack and since the creature wasn't threatening the pack yet, the raptor part of him deemed the creature as a possible threat but not important.

Owen wanted to bash his head against a tree but in doing so would give the girls concern and worry which is something Owen tends to avoid since he seemed to be giving them that constant feeling.

They had just ran past another abandoned building called Jurassic World: The Ride when Blue stopped and scented the air, her reptilian eyes narrowed. Seeing his beta's reaction, Owen let out a questioning noise "What's wrong Blue?" Blue replied back with a chirp "I just…smelled something familiar…"

A short memory surfaced through her mind. When she and her sisters first hatched, there was another batch of eggs there across them. One of the eggs hatched. Alpha had reached out to place the raptor in his arms when Blue let out a small screech of a roar and pounced.

Flashback:

"Woah girl, easy" Owen shouted as he pried Blue off from biting the poor baby raptor. He placed the newly hatched raptor away from Blue as her sisters screeched and barked at Blue.

Blue hissed, showing her baby teeth at the baby raptor who seemed to have gotten the message and moved away as Owen approached her.

"Huh…" Owen paused as he stared at the baby raptor hissing at him, clearly warning him to stay away.

Owen thought that raptors would imprint on the first sight they saw. He was stunned to see this one act differently.

"Looks like this one's defective" Dr. Wu said with a frown, quickly noticing the behavior. Owen glanced at Dr. Wu with a grimace "She just hatched. I think this little one's a fighter" Owen said with his arms crossed. He doesn't know what happened to dinosaurs that are defective but he sure as hell won't let any baby dinosaurs get thrown away simply because they look different.

Dr. Wu glanced at Owen with an inquisitive look. "Then how do you propose we deal with this…dinosaur? It would seem this batch doesn't hold that one with high esteem." Owen glanced at the baby raptors - that would later became known as the Raptor Squad - roaring and hissing at the baby raptor from across.

"We just raise the others normally, I doubt the raptors would cause any trouble"

Years later, the Indominus Rex incident happened and all thoughts on this batch of raptor eggs were long forgotten by Owen.

End:

Blue snapped herself out of the memory as soon as Charlie let out an excited chirp "I recognize this scent" She quickly ran around the back "Oh not again…" Delta let out a long, drawn-out noise before running after the youngest.

They headed inside the building as Charlie sniffed around. "Quiet down girls, we don't  know what surprises we might find" Owen softly barked as he looked around in the dim lighting thanks to the sun.

Soft patters of raptor feet did not go unnoticed by the residents in the area as it prepared to pounce and take out the closest one.

Which happened to be Owen Grady.

SCREECH!

FWAP!

Owen let out an alarmed bark when he felt something big hit him on the side, rendering him flat on his other side on the floor before he was pinned down and felt teeth grazing at his neck.

"Alpha!" All four girls roared. Blue in particular let out a warning growl as she hissed and moved closer to the unknown raptor.

"Girls! Girls, wait!" Owen barked when he felt the jaws around his neck tightened a bit. The girls growled but backed off as the unknown raptor growled in warning. It was a standoff.

Owen's mind raced through so many thoughts of escape while the raptor in him grew outraged and wanted to show the raptor pinning him as the dominant alpha male in this pack.

Tensions rose all the more as it grew on and as Owen was beginning to think of the first move, there were tiny high pitched roars and barks before two raptor hatchlings ran out of the darkness and stood in between the unknown raptor and the Raptor Squad. The unknown raptor let out an enraged roar while Owen’s pack let out confused trills. At first they all thought these were the hatchlings of the raptor pinning Owen and that she attacked due to protectiveness.

However, the tiny hatchlings smelled slightly off like they were also related to them which confused the girls until Owen let out a curious bark “Bravo…?” At that sound, the female raptor pinning him scrambled back in surprise. Owen slowly stood up to glance towards the dark greenish velociraptor. Sure enough, he remembered the baby raptor that was deemed deficient since it seemed she didn’t follow Owen, the first human she saw and imprinted on.

Blue quickly placed herself in front of Owen with a hiss and it was easy enough for Owen to figure out why Bravo didn’t come with him when she was still a hatchling. “Bravo?” Charlie let out a curious chirp before she let out excited barks when she recognized the raptor “You’ve grown!” She barked as she moved around to check Bravo’s physique.

Said raptor let out an amused trill “Charlie? You still look…less grown than me” Charlie let out an offended hiss before she was dragged back by the tail by Echo “I thought you died?” Blue stated “well I’m not. Alpha you look…different?” Owen huffed. Bravo had no idea of the events that happened . “What brings you to my nest?” All eyes turned to Charlie who let out an indignant noise. “Always the curious one…” Delta chitters silently to which Bravo lets out a snort. The tiny hatchlings, having never seen other raptors - more so a male raptor - sneakily checked Owen out with curiosity.

Owen was even more curious of them. Judging by how old they appear to be, they must have been the last batch of raptor eggs that hatched before the island was abandoned.

One hatchling tried to climb up by jumping up on Owen's leg when he knocked them off gently before letting out a purr as the hatchlings ran around him. The girls watched the interaction with fascination. Blue in particular felt something within her move towards the scene of Alpha playing in a mock fight between raptors and bigger animals.

Alpha would make a great father.

That thought again surfaced in her mind and huffed as the play ended when Bravo barked at the two to return. The hatchlings quickly ran behind her, barking incessantly “Your hatchlings?” Delta inquired to which Bravo answered with a snort “My siblings…” The hatchlings were eager to introduce themselves as Sierra, a light brown raptor with blue patterns that bears a striking resemblance with Echo and Tango, a green raptor with dark green patterns.

While Echo played with the hatchlings, Delta and Charlie were busy chatting with Bravo to catch up, having seemingly forgotten their first encounter when they were just newly hatched, Owen took the chance to scout the surroundings. The building didn’t look stable and parts are already falling off, vines were already creeping up on the walls and wild plants grew from the cracks. By the time he was finished inspecting, Owen frowned at the nest Bravo had built herself for her sisters.

“Alpha is planning to let them in the pack?” Blue asked although she already knew the answer by the determined look on Owen’s face. “I don’t think this nest site is suitable for ba - hatchlings to live and grow in” Owen said before he marched to where Bravo was with Delta and Charlie.

Bravo noticed the look Alpha was giving her and couldn’t help but bark out “Alpha is asking if I and my sisters could stay with your pack?” Delta and Charlie paused and looked at Blue who let out a noise of agreement. The three raptors they took in before were strangers to them and thus didn’t interact much with them, preferring to ignore them until Alpha got back with beta Blue. However, it was different for Bravo and her sisters. They already knew them by sight and smell on the first day they hatched, granted their meeting was a bit tense and close to Blue throwing herself at Bravo and trying to bite her hard.

Bravo thought of her options. On one hand, she had imprinted on Owen when she was still a hatchling but barely got to see him because Blue wouldn’t let her even get close to him. The other is that she could finally stop worrying every time she goes out to hunt because she knows her sisters are in a safe place and not in this…dangerous nest site. Seeing the uncertainty in he raptor, Owen barked out “Doesn’t have to be today. We’ll come by next time for the -" Owen didn't even get to finish when Bravo's snout was suddenly close to him.

"Alpha, I have decided. I will join the pack and help with the hunt." Bravo said before her gaze turned to her sisters. Although it worried her, Bravo knew her sisters were old enough to make their own decisions. "Sierra wants to join!" Seeing her sister say it first, Tango couldn't help but add in "Same. Same!" Both reptilian eyes looked up at Owen, to which the young male raptor let out a playful huff.

"Alright, alright." Owen settled the kids down before he scented the air for any potential threats nearby and, deeming it safe, the pack went home bringing with them the new members of the squad.

They were very much unaware of the intruders in their nest.

I could not help but add in their cousins. Let me know what you think in the commentary below.

Chapter 11: The Intruders

Sorry for the very late update. Been busy with college enrollment and other important family events. Anyways, here's the long awaited chapter.

Chapter Text

Nest sites are considered to be homes for newly born hatchlings and a place of refuge for the dinosaurs occupying said nest sites.

However, chances of intruders invading nest sites are considered common for dinosaurs. Owen knew this and maybe an instinctive part of the girls also knew this fact. Though the raptors never had any incident of intruders invading their nest.

Until it happened and they didn't take it very well.

***

Sierra and Tango were excited to see their new nest and once Alpha showed them the place, they began to jump around excitedly and started sniffing the area. Compies ran around when they saw the raptors returning to which the hatchlings began to give chase.

As Owen let the hatchlings run ahead of them to the entrance of the old park's Visitor's Center door, he caught wind of human stench around the area. He let out a bark before dashed to where the hatchligns were and placed himself in front of them, blocking them from moving forward.

The girls, scenting the same thing, didn't need Owen's barks to tell them that there might be intruders. The girls spread out, each heading to different locations where the intruders might be.

***

As the most athletic one in the camp fam, Yas was the first one close enough to reach for the compass they needed to navigate at sea. Unfortunately, a Compy, attracted by the shiny light it reflected, caught it and used it as part of its nests. Which brought them here in the Old Park's Visitor's Center.

Unlucky timing for them as the raptors came back after their morning meal.

The Compies were quick to notice their return as they quickly ran up to high ground where the raptors can't catch them. The kids quickly hushed down and stopped scaling up when one of the Compies on the ground turned back and let out a roar before dodging a set of raptor jaws.

Blue entered through one of the holes after finding nothing from where she was at. She narrowed her eyes when the human stench grew stronger. They were here.

She growled and walked around, trying to sniff them out of their hiding place. The scent smelled fresh so they were here or still are here.

Darius quickly placed a finger on his mouth in a shushing motion to which Yas and Kenji nodded in agreement as they stared at the raptor in slight fear. Darius recognized the raptor simply because of the single blue streak on her body. It was one of the raptors that helped to kidnap him and give strange serum to the three obviously injured raptors.

He had no idea what happened to the three but Darius hoped the rest of the pack was somewhere far away. His hopes dashed when there were sounds of baby raptors as two hatchlinga ran in. Kenji looked at Darius in shock, mouthing "baby raptors?!" To which Darius shook his head.

Blue hissed and quickly barked at them not to go far. Cousins they may be - whatever that word is - the moment the hatchlings entered the pack, something in hee clicked and the feeling of protectiveness towards the young stunned her slightly before she deemed it as a natural occurence.

As a beta, the protection of the pack's young extends to her.

Owen came in soon after once he realized his charges seemingly disappeared from his sight "They're related alright…" Owen thought with a content feeling as he trakced them inside. He saw Blue already barking at them with a disapproving look on her face while the hatchlings looked like they wanted to get away but could do nothing under Blue's watchful eyes.

"Easy Blue, they're hatchlings." Blue snorted "Should learn to follow. Might get them killed" Owen blinked then glanced at Blue. The way she behaved right now…it was so similiar to a mother scolding her child that it gave Owen the impression that she's already grown up.

The feeling of pride welled up, making him bark out "You would be a great mother, Blue" Blue perked up before she pressed her snout closer Owen "Really?" Owen, not used to having his snout pressed so close to another and feeling that something about this doesn't seem quite right, made him move slightly back.

"Uh..yeah, you really would make a great mom. You're already filling the part with these young ones" The young raptors let out screeches to which Owen and Blue responded by purrs of their own.

For a moment, the hatchlings looking up at them made Blue think of her own hatchlings, the things she could teach and pass on to them. As for the father, Blue glanced at Owen and felt the stirring inside her grow all the more.

Want…Alpha…

Owen sniffed the air when he caught something other than human smell. Something musky and heady?

The hatchlings let out screeches as they stared at Blue. Owen hushed them, they still needed to find the intruders and chase them off the nest.

Plink!

It was soft but it was noticeable enough for a raptor with sharp hearing. The moment gone, Owen and Blue glanced at one another before Owen herded the hatchlings close to him as he and Blue circled around.

***

Playback a few minutes ago, the kids watched as the blue streaked raptor barked and hissed at the hatchlings when another raptor entered. One that Darius knew but the others had no idea.

Darius watched as the raptors interacted with one another. He was both fascinated and terrified of them. Kenji motioned to him, gaining his attention before Kenji mouthed "Babies?!" To which Darius nodded. If there were hatchlings here, they probably might be nesting close by.

Which means that any trespassers coming to their nests means a death sentence. What luck they have for a Compy to get their compass and nest here right below a raptors' nest.

Yas glanced down at them, making a move to continue climbing up to reach for the compass. Darius nodded while Kenji shook his head, feeling as if it would be a bad idea and it would attract the distracted raptors.

Sure enough.

Plink!

The kids froze as the raptors snapped to attention. The male herded the kids close to him as he and the blue streaked raptor circled around from below.

Bodies taut with tension, the kids waited and didn't make a sound, much less breath properly as the raptors circled around.

***

"Above us" Owen chitters silently as he gives a quick glance up. Blue, having figured out where the intruders were, let out a hiss before she barked at Owen "Make distraction, lower their guard to come down and we strike."

Owen nodded in agreement to Blue’s plan as Sierra and Tango found their way to Charlie's treasured bones.

***

The said raptor, scouting the area outside, let out a sharp hiss "Found something?" Delta barked out in question "I feel like someone touched something they shouldn't," Charlie growled. The only possessions Charlie grew possessive of - aside from her pack of course - is her pile of bones she brought back to the nest after successful hunts out in the open.

If there were any bones she liked to have she would bring it back to the nest so she could play and arrange them however she liked. It also made the nest look more dangerous and would serve as a warning for any trespassers.

“You must be thinking of the time Echo accidentally threw away your favorite bone when you were still a hatchling” Delta asked to which Charlie hissed before she glanced to where Echo was. The said raptor let out a confused noise before responding back "I had no idea it was that important. I don't regret throwing it away though. Bone is sharp enough to cut through the scales" Echo hissed, remembering the time she felt the bone poking her sides back in the old nest.

Unlike the new nest they have, their old nest was relatively small in size with just enough room for four raptors but not enough room to freely run around. It was more cramped up in their old nest site than their new one. When Charlie had her first favorite bone - it was a gift from Alpha after the pack managed to snatch and snack on a prey - she kept it close to where she slept in their old nest.

Unfortunately, her poor sisters had to scoot away once they got too close to the sharp end of the bone. It was to Echo's delight she had thrown it away; the problem was that she and Charlie went into a full blown argument close to a fight.

Alpha had managed to calm them both down but Charlie stopped speaking to Echo for a few weeks before Blue decided to force Echo and Charlie into talking and made up.

It was a painful memory for Charlie since that bone served as a safety thing for her by Alpha when she was just a hatchling and Alpha had to take long hours away from them everyday.

A pack without the presence of an Alpha out in the wild is doomed especially for the young that rely on the Alpha for safety and protection.

Although Charlie got over it as she got older, she developed a possessive habit if there were those who grabbed her possessions without her noticing.

The sisters were cut off from their trip down to memory lane when shouts of soft meats in terror echoed in their ears along with Blue's furious roars and Tango and Sierra's cries for help.

Chapter Text

The kids dashed out of the park in panic before they made their way to an abandoned park raptor jeep as the blue streaked raptor furiously chased them.

"Why did you have to kick the machine down?!"

Yas wanted to bang Kenji's head to the dashboard as they locked the doors to the jeep. The blue raptor simply banged against the vehicle using her body before she turned and disappeared into the bushes.

"I'm sorry okay, I panicked" Kenji said as they looked around, searching for the missing raptor. Turning the clock back to the minute before this all started, the raptors had located the kids from above and decided to trick them into lowering their guards by disappearing into the foliage where there appeared to be a hole that led to the outside behind it.

Unfortunately, Sierra and Tango spotted them and didn't bother to hide it as they chirped and barked out to the kids which frightened the campers.

Kenji slipped and fell as he was trying to get to higher ground but managed to grab the bars but his body swung uncontrollably towards the vending machine and hit it from the front causing it to fall backwards right where Sierra and Tango are.

Owen jumped into action and pushed the two away before he got half of his body crushed under the heavy weight of metal. Owen screeched as Blue roared. Kenji screamed as he dropped from the ground and ran for his life with Darius and Yas following soon after, using Blue's distracted gaze to Owen to run away.

They didn't hold back their voices from screaming as they ran out, which caught the attention of the rest of the pack. Sierra and Tango's screams were also noticeable which led Bravo to move where she located where her sisters might be as Blue ran after the campers.

Which led them here.

There was silence in the jeep as the kids fearfully looked around, hoping to spot the raptor "Where'd she go?" Yas asked out after she felt the silence lasted long enough for her nerves. "Maybe she went back to get her raptor friends?" Kenji guessed to which Darius replied with “The pack would’ve been here by now. I don’t know why they aren't-" Darius' voice was cut off when Blue suddenly appeared from the front and on top of the hood.

The kids screamed.

***

The pack found Owen trapped under the vending machine - half of his body was sticking out as he lay down sideways - with Sierra and Tango looking at them with barks and shrieks of worry and fear. Delta quickly makes the decision as acting leader for Bravo to follow and chase after Blue while the rest will try to get Alpha out.

Bravo wanted to disobey but under the insistence of her sisters, she relented and darted after the beta. Owen grunted as he tried to push the vending machine off of him as it groaned by the movement as it slowly rose but it wasn't enough for him to move to a position where he could twist his body for him to move.

"Girls place your bodies under as much as you can and push up!" Finding Alpha's new idea intriguing, the rest of the pack did as Alpha instructed and soon Owen felt there was enough room to wiggle and move. He let out a breath as Sierra and Tango flocked towards him and began squawking.

"I'm alright, let's go find your sister and Blue"

The pack didn't wait for anymore barks as they shot off to where they pinpointed Blue and Bravo's location with the scent of the kids still lingering in the air.

***

Bravo had just tracked them down only to find an upturned vehicle with Blue stuck underneath. She roared as the kids moved away but didn't turn their backs for fear of Bravo chasing them down.

She hissed down at Blue who let out a crying noise of defeat and slight embarrassment. Just then, another noise caught their ears. Compies, and there were a lot of them. Bravo grew defensive as she hissed and snapped as more Compies came and surrounded her.

Blue let out various calls for help as Bravo snapped her jaws for any Compy that came too close. Darius watched the whole thing with a guilty look on his face "C'mon dude let's go!" Kenji said as he grabbed Darius by the arm.

"We can't just leave her here. They'll kill both of them" Darius said. If it comes down to it, Bravo would have to leave Blue for her survival and Darius knows that would spell badly for the poor raptor stuck underneath. “Not our problem bro, enemy of my enemy and all that!” Kenji stated “But she wasn’t our enemy” Yas cut Kenji off as he was about to spout out more “We were trespassing in their home with kids in there. Any parent would be furious if someone would intrude in our homes”

Kenji groaned knowing Yas was right “Fine, Dino whisperer, what do you suggest we do?" Darius looked at the tranquilizer gun he has and checked to see how many there are.

"Not enough to tranq them all" Darius mumbled and before he could input his thoughts, Blue and Bravo suddenly let out unnatural calls. The three kids stared at them in surprise before Darius paled and quickly pulled them to the bushes.

"Ow! Darius!"

"They're calling for help!" Darius hushed when multiple raptor calls seemed to surround them. The kids tensed when one of the Compies was suddenly snatched up and ruthlessly killed beofre it could make a squeak. The rest of the Compies, seeing back up has arrived, hissed before they ran straight to the bushes for cover.

The Alpha of the pack burst forth as the other raptor snacked on the Compy it killed. Darius noted only three of them came. The rest must've stayed back in the nest to watch for the young.

***

"Blue, are you alright?" Owen asked as he stared at the jeep keeping her pinned under. Blue let out an embarrassed chirp "I'm fine. I hate it, Alpha sees beta in this position" Blue chirped, eyes avoiding Owen's concerned gaze.

"No Blue, you did good. I don't think we thought this would happen" Owen said as he pressed his snout against Blue in reassurance. "Alpha, I don't think pack can lift this up" Delta barked as she sniffed at the jeep. It felt too heavy for her, Echo and Bravo to lift up.

Owen glanced at the bushes he was sure the kids were hiding in and let out a series of barks and chirps, eyes never straying from that patch.

***

"What's it doing?" Yas whispered as Darius risked to move his head up a bit to see. The leader's gaze never left the bush they hid. "She knows…" Kenji whispered "He…That's a boy" Darius replied.

"So, what do we do now?" Yas whispers. Darius remembered the feeling he had when he encountered the raptor male. It never gave him a vibe of dwanger despite how it looked at him warily.

"We should help it" Darius said. Kenji and Yas looked at him as ofbhe had somehow gown an extra head "Are you nuts?! Head straight in where there's a chance we might get eaten?" Kenji whispered harshly in disbelief.

Barks and growls sounded off again only this time, the kids heard a long growl, feeling like a warning. "Well we have to try. If they wanted to eat us, they would have done so by now" Darius said before he made himself known as he walked out of the bush with his hands raised up.

The raptors roared and hissed but they didn't move to attack him as the Alpha male hissed and growled lowly at them. Yas and Kenji looked at one another before they followed Darius' move. The kids made their way slowly to the jeep as the blue streaked raptor let out whines.

"Come on, help me lift it up" Darius said as he positioned himself close to Blue. Yas and Kenji nervously looked at one another before they followed and struggled to lift the jeep up but they're kids, not superhuman and they struggled to barely lift up the hundred pound jeep.

Owen hissed as he and the girls went in to help. Darius suddenly found himself in a situation that seemed only to be read by in fictional books: Dinosaurs helping humans.

Blue struggled to move as she clawed the ground to pull herself up. The kids grunted as the jeep began to slowly move up as Blue shifted and moved herself out from under the jeep as the strength of the kids gave way and the jeep fell back down with a bang.

The kids gasped as they tried to gain back their strength as Blue chirped and barked as she pressed her snout against Owen to which he replied with a coo and a rub against her head. Turning their attention to the kids, Owen hissed and growled at them before he barked at the pack to return where Charlie was waiting with the hatchlings back at the nest.

"Well…that was…"

"...odd? Terrifying?"

"All in between" Darius said with a sigh of relief. He wasn't sure what to make of this raptor pack that seem to disregard everything written by Ian Malcolm.

Perhaps there are some things that even the greatest scientists and mathematicians know nothing.

***

Sierra and Tango barked and chirped with joy as they greeted their sister. Charlie barked as she met up with the rest of the pack.

Owen felt exhaustion hit him. This was an eventful day from the time they left for a hunt to meeting Bravo and her sisters and accepting them in the pack and chasing the kids out of the nest.

All in all, the raptors dropped into a heap as they each let out yawns and fell asleep. Sierra and Tango barked and tried to wake each of them up but a harsh snap from Alpha made them quiet their playing.

Owen took note that the girls needed training as soon as they've acclimatized to their new nest.

***

One month.

During these past few days, Sierra and Tango enjoyed acclimatizing to their new nest. Back in their old nest, they barely had enough room to run around under the watchful eye of their sister but now, they get to run around and play fight anywhere under the watchful eyes of the adults. It even helps that there are Compies around for them to have a mock hunt.

Bravo had watched her sisters' growth spurts shoot up as they slowly grew and gained weight.

As soon as they reached the appropriate height, Bravo requested for her sisters to join in on the hunt to which was seconded by Blue for the experience and for Sierra and Tango to stabilize and secure themselves within the pack.

Owen had no way to refute.

Sierra and Tango's first hunt and the girls were already jumping around in excitement, having woken up early which roused the sleepy adults up with grumbles "If I am going to have eggs of my own, the first thing I'm going to do is to teach them to restrain themselves" Echo grumbled as she shook herself to get rid of the dust and dirt.

Delta snorted at her sister's barks "In that case, that lesson should start with the mother" Delta huffed as she shook off the dirt accumulated from the ground AND from Echo's shaking.

Owen barked as the girls gathered around him. He stared down at Sierra and Tango who gave him chirps and barks of impatience and excitement.

Owen huffed before he barked at the signal for them to be off.

***

Because of the small heights of Sierra and Tango, the pack slowed their speed of running. Owen sniffed out the nearest herd of prey.

They came across a small herd of herbivores. Sierra and Tango glanced at the adults, every breath and form they instilled in their minds. Someday, they would be the ones who would hunt along with the pack.

Owen chirped and barked out the plan before the pack split into small groups. Sierra and Tango hid in the bushes and watched the action. Observing everything they could as the adults easily took down the likely runt of the herd and moved to the juveniles who were far away from the herd.

Both very unaware they had become targeted prey themselves.

***

The pack had managed to take down the last prey for their morning meal. Licking the blood splattered on his mouth, Owen found himself thinking back to when he was still fresh from being a raptor, he had to hold back a vomit every time they had to take down a dinosaur to eat. Speaking of eating, raw meat, at first, made Owen's stomach churn in revolt at the same time, made him feel that sense of hunger. At times, he just closed his eyes and blocked the sound of meat grinding against his teeth and the sound of bones crunching in between.

Now look at him, the sight barely managed to flinch him although there were moments that made him look back to when he was still human, Owen mentally argued that killing dinosaurs for survival is still the same concept when hunting for food out in the wild.

He turned to call Sierra and Tango after making sure there were no more prey or predators around. Owen heard no reply and felt himself grow suspicious. He called again, this time walking to where the young were hiding.

He let out a roar when the familiar smell of predator and danger flashing across his instincts. The same predator that attacked him and Blue but never heard from it for some time. Owen cursed himself for letting his guard down for one moment as he barked out for the girls - who glanced up at him from their meal with concern - to hurry up.

Hunger gone, Owen felt the hunt rising again and this time, they were hunting something other than prey.

Chapter 13: Sierra and Tango's Adventure Pt. 2

Chapter Text

Sierra and Tango ran through the twigs and bushes, hoping for their chaser to stop chasing them but no matter how well hidden they try to be, they were always found by the predator.

The predator in question is the same killer that attacked Owen and Blue although if Owen were to track down the predator that chased Sierra and Tango away he'd be in for a surprise.

The predator chased the two snacks across the forest, noting how they were close to being tired. It opened its claws as it leaned forward to gain speed until it stopped and sniffed the area.

Humans. A lot of them.

The predator growled as it looked at the direction the delicious red were going. It wanted to mindlessly follow and finish them but the threat of humans still lingered. It wasn't strong and big enough yet to take all of them down.

The predator retreated back to the safety of the bushes and away from the scent of humans and the delicious red. Knashing teeth in frustration, the predator took note of the delicious red scent and hopefully they would survive for it to devour and savor the red.

***

Sierra risked a glanced back before she slowed to a stop and barked out at tango who was already 5 meters away from her.

"Danger gone." Tango huffed as the girls took the time to catch their breath and regain their energy. "Where are we?" As if suddenly remmebering the pack, Sierra and Tango looked around, trying desperately to sniff out their pack to no avail.

Dread is not something dinosaurs should feel. At most, they feel panic before resignation to their impending death. That is the law and their ways. However, Sierra and Tango were still considered to be children at their age and when they realized the situation they placed themselves in, panic and helplessness rose.

Sierra and Tang looked around and wanted to begin shouting and roaring for their sister and their pack but -

"You must never roar or make noises outside the nest." Alpha looked down at them sternly as the two baby raptors looked at him with rapt attention.

"Why Alpha?" Tango chittered "Many predators out there. Young like you are easy prey for them. Just stay where you are and we will find you if we ever get separated"

Sierra and Tango looked at each other. Trusting their pack to find them, Sierra opted they find shelter at least. They both walked straight ahead until they came across a part of the park that was already covered in vines and mud.

No doubt other dinosaurs passed by here.

The girls glanced at the tall structures before Tango barked with joy upon stumbling across a nest full of eggs. Rumbles from their stomachs made the girls head straight for the eggs. Very much ignoring the fact that if there was a nest, the parents are not far behind.

A loud bellow of anger made the sisters look up to see a charging triceratop,  with its horns lowered, running straight towards them. Tango and Sierra bolted for the safety of the bushes all the while screaming and roaring in panic.

***

Not far, Owen and the pack caught wind of their cries and doubled their speed, heads lowered as they followed the scent.

Owen stopped once he noticed the scent of danger suddenly split up in a different direction than the girls. Sniffing the air, human scent registered his brain when human colonge and sweat drifted his nostrils.

Should he pursue the predator or find the young?

The answer was obvious enough as Owen and the pack proceeded to head to where the hatchlings might be.

***

"Man, this dinosaur moves fast. Can't we put a leash on her?"

Dr. Riley Martin's computer intern, Chad, complained as the group tried to catch their breath at the fast paced dinosaur that was looking for her eggs.

"You could try but do you want to be dragged through thejungle at 30 miles per hour?" Dr. Kate Walker asked. "Jeannie's headed back to her eggs. You can't blame her for being in a hurry" Allison, Dr. Walker's paleo veterinarian inter, stated before she moved closer to Jeannie the Troodon, speaking in a conforrting tone.

"Don't worry Jeannie. We will reunite you with your babies" Allison said only to rear back in shock when Jeannie hissed and growled at her in warning. Dr. Kate quickly ran to Allison's side.

"Woah, Jeannie" Kate warned as Jeannie barked before resuming her search "I know you mean well Allison but according to the Dino Decoder, Jeannie's still getting use to you so be sure to keep your distance" Kate said as she patted Allison who looked kinda hurt.

"Alright!"

Chad's excited scream made most of the group turn to him "We're in the Jurassic World Adventure Zone!" Chad exclaimed "I always wanted to swing around with the vines but security had this stupid rule about being for park guests only. Well, now my time has come!"

Chad worked in Jurassic world and is not a guest which means they didn't allow him to swing around with the vines. The staff preferring to work rather than play.

"Alright…Oscar, you're finally loosening up and having some fun!" Chad said with joy as he watched the man climb up a tall wooden structure "Shut up" Oscar said as he was halfway up the top.

"And…poof, the fun is gone" Chad sighed. "Oscar, what are you doing up there?" Martin asked "I'm looking for the T-Rex" Oscar replied. If reports are true and the T-Rex singlehandedly defeated the Indominus Rex, its a terrible dinosaur to be close to.

Better spot it and give distance away from it.

"Do you see her?"

"No, but we should keep moving" Oscar stated. The structure wasn't tall enough for him to spot everything. "Good idea. See, this is why we ask Oscar to come. So we don't die " Martin said before glancing at Chad sternly as if warning the energetic boy not to make any reckless moves that would put him and by extension, the group in danger.

"Hey guys, I think I found something" Allison said as she moved the remaining patches of grass that hid the eggs (most of it had already been moved out by Sierra and Tango before the triceratops chased them out).

"Jeannie look! It's your eggs!" Allison exclaimed in excitement as the group turned to her with shock and expectant joy. Jeannie ran to where Allison was but then backed off "What's wrong? Don't you want your babies?" Allison asked as she picked one up.

Upon closer inspection, Martin froze "Allison, those look a little to big to be troodon eggs" He stated "Well if they aren't Jeannie's who's are they?"

Her reply came in the form of an enrage bellow followed by a pair of screaming shrieks as Sierra and Tango darted back and ran past the surprised group.

"Nevermind, get back!" Martin shouted as he swung his backpack around and pushed Chad to a safer distance. "Those are triceratop eggs."

"Yeah, thanks for the tip"

Jeannie, sensing danger, placed herself in between Dr. Kate while eyeing the triceratops. Said triceratop ignored the raptors in turn to face the new threat thay actually held her child.

Allison, face pale and slightly shaking as the towering horns drew closer to her "I don't like this…" Allison said meekly. "Allison, she's just defending her young. Put the egg down" Dr. Kate calmly said despite the obvious slight shake in her form.

The group expected to be attacked by predators that loved to eat meat. They never realized that the first dinosaur to attack them would actually be a herbivore.

***

Sierra and Tango ran fast and across the bushes when the bellowing sound suddenly faded away. The two raptors stopped and glanced back, ears straining to listen but there was no one chasing after them.

Sierra and Tango looked at each other and relaxed their tense postures. Rumbles from their stomachs made them glance down, hoping that the pack did find them.

"We should head back and see" Tango said to which Sierra looked at her sister in surprise. Tango thought that staying close to the humans would heighten the chances of being found by the pack since they would pick up on this scent and with their added scents mixed, the pack would no doubt track down the humans. They just need to stay hidden.

Lost in their musings, both girls lowered their guards enough for a group of men to drop a cage on them.

Sierra and Tango screeched.

***

Chad was many things. Loud, energetic, outgoing, a typical young adult boy. So it was to Martin's shock that when the triceratops faced him with her horns pointed at him, ready to charge.

He hung upside down uselessly as he screamed when he heard Chad shouting "Don't worry Dr. R!" Martin gaped with his mouth slightly open as he watched Chad literally swing around towards him looking like he was Tarzan.

Chad rolled as he released his hold on the rope and dropped down. He stood in front of the triceratops with his hands raised. "Chad! What are you doing? You're gonna get killed!" Martin cried out "Relax, I saw how Owen stopped the raptors. I got this" Chad said confidently "Chad, Owen Grady was the Alpha to that pack of raptors, it's not going to work" Kate stated.

"We'll see about that." Chad said as he held both hands out and issued a command. "STAND. DOWN" all he received was a snort of cold liquid from the triceratop.

"Chad, you need to get out of there" Oscar said loudly "Guys, I'm clearly in control. Easy girl" Chad said as he walked forward. The triceratop backed off as well. To the eyes looking at the two, it would seem Chad is indeed in control but their eyes were currently on the dinosaurs that suddenly appeared out of the bushes on different sides.

Oscar tensed up from his position above the tall wooden structure as he gripped the shock stick to his side while Allison, hiding behind the Adventure Zone logo, ducked down to avoid being seen.

"Uh…Chad?" Allison called out to which the ignorant boy dismissed the warning in her tone "Seriously, I got this. I'm totally in its head" Chad said, very unaware that five raptors were slowly closing in on him.

Martin quickly looked away when one seemed to glance at him before continuing on.

***

Owen stares at the boy who looked like he was giving out familiar commands and hand signals to the triceratop. Wait, weren't those his hands signals and commands?!

The triceratop roared and bellowed out as it backed away all the more. Chad felt very confident in the moment when he commanded it to speak and it did roar out.

The pack kept its eyes on the rest of the soft meat humans, especially the one with a long weapon they are familiar with.

"Chad, look behind you" Oscar, having slowly come down from his position, said to Chad with his shock stick by his side. Seeing uow serious Oscar suddenly looked, Chad looked back and stumbled on his behind when he came face to face with a snarling raptor.

Bravo barked as she demanded the triceratop on the location of her sisters. The triceratop, having not understood a single bark, bellowed again in anger with its horns lowered to their position.

Taking this as a sign of attack, the raptors released themselves from their compressed formation and surrounded the triceratop, completely ignoring the humans.

"They really don't like each other."

The raptor pack roared as they charged and pounced.

***

Hearing the familiar roars of their pack, Sierra and Tango suddenly began barking and clawing at the wooden box they were thrown in.

"Shut them up!" Someone shouted and the girls jumped when there were loud bangings and shaking. Sierra and Tango quickly shut their mouths and glared in any direction the voice came from.

"Alpha is nearby" Tango barked excitedly. Sierra huffed "Pack may not hear us. Bad soft meat make us stay silent. I want to kill them…" A murderous intent flash through Sierra's mind. "We will make them our prey. Listen to Alpha's words, we wait and attack when they open this…" She looked around at the dim lighting of the interior of the box. The only light seeping through are the holes on the sides for the raptors to breath in.

Sierra went back to observing the bad soft meat.

***

Owen and the rest of the pack manage to drive the triceratop away but now the human group faced off Owen and his pack as they circled them around. Bravo was extra irritated today, the triceratop didn't provide much info aside from her aggressive stance which gave Alpha the conclusion that the triceratop drove them away.

Whichever way the girls went, they were still trying to track down their scent to determine their direction.

It did NOT help that the surrounding scent of terrified humans mixed in made their tracking all the more confusing.

Hence, Bravo's irritability.

She growled and hissed at the backing humans. Owen wanted to calm her down but from his experience with women: Don't try to calm them down unless they calm down to a certain degree else you'll just put yourself in her line of fire.

Owen was slightly surprised when a light green dinosaur suddenly ran in front of the humans and began speaking in perfect raptor "Don't hurt them. They're my pack!" Blue narrowed her eyes and barked back "Who are you?"

"I am called Jeannie"

Owen blinked and stared at the female dinosaur, if he didn't know what this type of dinosaur was, he would've mistaken this as a featherless chicken, the ancestor of chickens.

"You speak like us?"

"Yes, I understand your words"

"We are looking for two kids - hatchlings. They were separated from the pack." Jeannie remembered two small hatchlings running across to the other side before the triceratop burst through and began attacking them.

"Two hatchlings came running here and headed in that direction. That was all I saw before my pack had to confront Giant Horn"

Giant Horn, fitting description for a triceratop.

Bravo quickly turned and ran to the direction Jeannie pointed out "Bravo Wait!" Owen barked as he ran after her with the pack following behind.

***

Sierra and Tango felt the ground they were standing on stop swaying, they peeked through the holes to see the bad soft meat started doing things they can relate to such as making a nest.

Sierra and Tango looked at each other through the dim lighting. They wanted to know why there were so many soft meat around. From what Alpha said, they don't belong here.

"We have to get out and warn pack" Tango growled as she inserted her hand out and began waving and clawing at anything.

Both girls were very much unaware they had been spotted by a relieved pack once Bravo noticed the clawed arm sticking out.

"They're okay…" Owen let out a relieved breath before he hissed at Bravo in warning "Bravo, I'll let you off once since this is still new for you to be in a pack but I expect you to listen to every word I say otherwise it might compromise the pack!" Bravo lowered her head.

"Apologies Alpha" Bravo said with her head lowered in submission. A part of Owen both the raptor in him and the navy, felt his tense posture relax slightly at the obedience.

A soldier who disobeys orders are dead on the battlefield.

A sentence his pa once said and Owen would be damned if any of the girls try something reckless with armed humans.

Owen checked the surroundings and knew they were outnumbered and based on the cages stationed, he bet there were tranq guns laying around.

He wasn't going to recklessly head in to find out. He turned to the pack who were awaiting his orders. He glanced at Blue before he told his beta the plan.

"We strike at night"

Chapter 14: Sierra and Tango's Adventure Pt. 3

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Sierra and Tango could not help but feel excitement when the scent of their pack entered their nostrils.

Pack is here!

The humans were none too happy at the sudden chittering noise inside the box. A bing from the top with yelling "Quiet!" made the girls silent for a moment but then they got noisy again, this time it was even louder than the last one.

"Ugh…I can't wait till we get off this island" One of the men grumbled as the sun slowly started to set. "Can't we just gas them?" Another soldier asked as he took out a canister.

Owen growled as the young continued to make noises. Bravo had no idea what the soft meat was doing but hearing the growl and the anger from Alpha, Bravo guessed it was something bad. "Alpha…"

"Hold, Bravo" Owen hissed before he gestured the girls to spread out quietly and take down the men closest to them. The girls darted out, taking positions where the soft meat humans were stationed closest to the bushes and trees.

Owen's eyes pinned down on the man closest to him and before the man could even lift his gun or do something, Owen was already on him and bit directly at the neck, instantly killing the man.

The pack took note of Alpha's attack and how easy it was to take the prey down; the girls followed his example, taking down the soldiers simultaneously. Once again, Owen had to admire their quick learning skills.

The men that were furthest from the bushes were too stunned and shocked to move that it was all the time the raptors needed to take a lot of them down before they started firing.

"Cover!" Owen barked through a hail of tranqs and bullets. Delta quickly darted through a pile of boxes before rounding a corner and avoiding a hail of tranqs aimed at her.

Peeking out, she growled when she realized she was pinned down. If she made a move away from her cover, she would most likely be shot from somewhere.

Echo roared and charged at the men that had Delta cornered. Unlike Delta who prefers to think through her actions, Echo charged straight through the fray with Charlie right behind her, darting left and right to confuse the soldiers at which raptor to aim.

Delta watched the two of them and felt like Charlie's growth is heavily influenced by Echo from the way the two of them are darting through the fray. If she doesn't set Charlie straight, the youngest would no doubt follow Echo's acts in charging through.

They were gonna have a serious talk about this.

Delta circled around and provided cover for the two while Owen and Blue worked to break the box holding the young ones inside while Bravo stood guard.

While Bravo herself wanted to be the one to open the box and rescue her own sisters. Blue was adamant that while she could rescue her sisters there is a big possibility she could be distracted on checking to see if the young ones has injuries.

Bravo acquiesed when Owen reassured her they would get Sierra and Tango out.

***

Sierra and Tango heard screams and squelches with the sudden thick sent of blood that sent their stomachs rumbling. The raptors screeched when jaws suddenly appeared as Owen tried to pry the lid off that was shut by a lock and key type.

He growled when his jaws barely made a dent on the lock and just scratches. "Alpha!" Delta roared "We can't hold out much longer" Owen cursed and with a reckless decision with adrenaline riding in, he chomped down on the lock and broke through the wood surrounding the lock.

Sierra and Tango yelped when something was pried open from above and light began to seep through the medium sized crack. The lid was then pulled open and Blue's face made the raptors chirp in excitement as she grabbed them by their tail and placed them down on the ground.

Owen was in a state of pain as he pried the the wood that surrounded the lock away. The result was two broken teeth that very much hurt like a bitch!

It was more painful to remove teeth that weren't supposed to be removed. Shit, how do crocodiles and sharks deal with this?!

He angrily spat out the lock and turned to Blue and saw the hatchlings already out. Hearing backup coming from the distance, Owen immediately shouted at the girls to retreat as they disappeared among the patches of bushes.

"Shit! They've taken the assets! The fuckers must have been looking for them!"

***

Blue quietly glanced at the blood that dripped down from Alpha's mouth. She knew that blood belonged to Alpha and from the slight grimace, it was painful.

"Alpha…"

"I'm fine Blue. But shit does this hurt! " Owen thought the last part as he led the pack to a nearby creek to wash off the blood to prevent any predators with good smell to catch the scent.

Owen's tongue darted through the missing teeth. Thankfully, they would grow back and the pain was already receeding. He yelped when there was another tongue that licked him on the side, close to his mouth. He turned to Blue who gave him a worried and concerned look.

Feeling something was off, Owen wanted to take a step back but refrained himself when he saw the look Blue was giving him "It's alright Blue, I'm fine. I'll recover but the hatchlings might be-" Owen had no idea how to introduce the girls to psychological problems after the things the hatchlings might have gone through.

Blue glanced to where Sierra and Tango where with Bravo fussing over them and checking to see any external injuries.

"Sister, we are fine!" Tango stressed out with a huff. She knew her sister was just worried but really, its embarassing to be seen like this in front of the entire pack.

Delta was busy scolding Charlie about how reckless she had been and how Echo is a terrible influence to her to which the said raptor turned a blind eye and went off to scout ahead. Charlie felt like a hatchling once more and from there, Tango and Charlie formed a kinship based on their nagging sisters.

Owen glanced at his pack before he stared up at the sky to check the location of the sun and knew thay dusk was closing in. They were too far from the nest and predators roam about at night.

Owen hissed internally before barking at his pack "We need to find a temporary nest for tonight. Bright light is falling and the hatchlings are in no condition to move at night" The pack nodded as they begin to search for a temporary nest site with Sierra and Tango staying in the middle of the group

***

Fortunately, they found a large tree with a slightly shallow root ground good enough for the hatchlings to rest in and the roots provide extra protection.

Sierra and Tango settled in for the night while Owen, Blue and Echo took patrol around the area to make sure the temporary nest was secure.

Delta and Charlie grabbed bushes and any greenery they could find to cover and fortify the nest should any passing dino come around.

Sierra and Tango knew they should feel apprehensive and scared after such an ordeal but seeing the adults moving about to secure the area gave a sense of security that Sierra and Tango slowly felt sleepy and were nodding off to slumber.

Bravo looked at her younger siblings and relaxed her posture as Delta and Charlie returned with Owen, Blue and Echo.

Echo and Delta took their first watch as the pack settled in and slept. 5 hours after Echo and Delta shifted so that Blue and Owen would take the next shift, there was a sudden cry for help.

Blue turned to the direction of the noise and narrowed her eyes. She knew that roar as did Owen who suddenly shifted his position.

"Alpha going?" There was no judgment in Blue's tone. Owen nodded to which he leaned closer to Blue "Will you come with me?" Of course Blue acquiesced in Owen's decision. How could she ever say no to the alpha she wanted as a mate.

Owen sniffed the air when he noticed that same musky, heady scent he caught back in their nest.

This…

"We're coming too!" Echo barked, which made Blue hiss and snarl in her direction. Owen blinked when he saw Echo and Charlie appear. Charlie looked like she had just been abruptly woken up while Echo looked like she barely slept at all.

Strange. I didn't notice them coming.

"Charlie you look like you could barely move and hinder Alpha. Echo, you haven't rested much after your shift. Your lack of energy might hinder Alpha"

Blue shot down the reasons her sisters would be unable to join. "But Charlie wants to join in." Even Owen could clearly see the fatigue Charlie was showing.

"Echo, you and Charlie stay and guard the pack. Blue and I will handle it." As Owen turned and headed out. Blue gave Echo a smug look before she darted off after him.

Echo huffed in annoyance. She would never understand why the eldest would act like this towards Alpha. Come mating season, they would choose suitable partners to create the next generation of raptors in their pack and as leader, Alpha could mate as many as he wanted and the girls wouldn't mind.

Unfortunately for Echo, monogamous humans are a complete mystery to her and Owen was one of those monogamous people.

Charlie let out a yawn as Echo reluctantly guided her back to the temporary nest to wait for their alpha and beta to return.

Chapter 15: Sierra and Tango's Adventure Final

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Millions of years ago, the inhabitants of Earth were very different and dangerous, but 65 million years later, they went extinct and new life came in after the old.

However, there are times when the line between 65 million years ago and later would blur.

That came in the form of hatchlings who woke up from their slumber and were too excited to go back to sleep despite the insistence of their sister.

Sierra and Tango overheard the conversation between the adults outside and there was one thought that crossed their minds.

They were going to sneak out and follow .

"But Tango, Alpha said we should rest before we head back to the nest when Bright light appears"

Sierra silently chirped to which Tango ignored her with a flick of her tail. Hatchling interests come and go as quick as a bird flying past. Now there was something interesting that could sate her boredom.

"We'll just watch from a distance away from the battle"

Tango said. Sierra glanced to her sleeping sister and to the rest of the sleeping pack before her gaze landed on Charlie and Echo as the two adults stared off at the entrance for any signs of intruders.

"Elder sisters Charlie and Echo are watching. You can't slip past them without being spotted" Sierra argued one more time but she knew that once Tango's got an idea, she wasn't going to let it go until it actually happened.

And seeing the determined look just proved her point as Tango made her way to where the adults were guarding. Charlie had long since fallen back asleep, her young body unable to resist the sweet temptation of rest while Echo was on the verge of falling asleep, having assured Delta that she will watch more before waking the next raptors up for their shift.

Keeping her sneaking skills to the test, Tango snuck past Charlie before she cre[t up close to where Echo is. Glancing back, Tango could see Sierra shaking her head to stop Tango at what she was doing before they got caught. Unfortunately, Tango ignored her and proceeded to brisk walk past Echo, keeping as quiet as possible.

Echo snorted.

Tango froze while Sierra promptly shut her eyes, not wanting to see. By some miracle, Echo huffed and merely shut her eyes. Tango relaxed her stance and kept moving closer until she was out.

Sierra watched as the figure of her sister drew further away. She glanced back at Bravo then at the direction Tango went before she resigned herself to follow her sister if only to stop her from whatever plan she was doing.

Tango brightened when she saw Sierra coming up from behind her "I knew you would follow." All she got was a glare as the two darted off from the temporary nest and after Owen and Blue.

***

Once Owen and Blue stumbled upon a frantic Jeannie who gave them looks akin to a human finally finding salvation. "You have to help me. Bad humans have my pack and my hatchlings!" At first, Blue wanted to bark at Alpha that they were backing out but when Jeannie mentioned her hatchlings and Owen's sudden rise of determination to help, Blue knew she couldn't say "no" anymore.

Not when hatchlings are involved and not when she's planning on having Alpha's eggs but acting like a terrible mother based on how she rejected Jeannie's request for assistance.

Still, it was odd for Blue to be helping out another dinosaur that's not one of them, especially since the foremost rule of her instincts is to survive but something inside Blue wanted to help. Something beyond the instincts embedded in her gene.

Owen watched as a myriad of thoughts crossed through Blue's mind. He wanted to speak up but he knew Blue had more than just instincts, she had empathy which is more than enough for Owen to give him the confidence he has in Blue's decision.

Sure enough, Owen saw Blue let out an affirmative bark to which Jeannie wasted no time turning and leading them to where her pack was being held.

Blue had wanted to ask Alpha as to why he waited for her to make a decision and not just say yes directly to avoid confrontation but then from the corner of her eyes, she spotted something within Alpha's reptilian eyes that made her insides swirl.

Trust.

For all the things Blue prided herself with, Trust and Loyalty stood among the traits she puts up as important for the stability and respect of the pack. It was also the first thing she saw on Alpha's face when he faced her soon after she grew from her hatchling body.

Soon.

After this whole thing is over, she'll announce her intentions for the coming mating season. Whether Alpha wants her or not, Blue can wait. She has enough patience within her to make sure Alpha sees her as a potential mate, the only one suitable for him.

After all, the prey captured from all the hard work put into it is all the more sweeter.

***

Echo yelped when something hard hit her and she abruptly woke up. The thing that hit her was none other than Delta's own tail which she swung around like a club. Delta glared down at her sister with eyes that promised death. Charlie, hearing Echo's yelp, jumped up in surprise but backed off and closed her eyes again once she saw the furious look her sister was giving to Echo.

"I didn't do anything!" Echo's first choice of words did not help Delta's growing ire. The said raptor snarled, teeth showing. "Really? Have you not noticed something missing?" Delta growled. Echo looked around "I fell asleep and forgot to wake you?"

"Where are the hatchlings?!" Bravo’s cries entered their ears as Echo looked around to then notice the two missing hatchlings “Oh, they’re gone…” Delta really wanted to give Echo a big round of lecturing and maybe some fighting to get this sudden burst of rage energy off her but right now -

“We need to find them. Where’s Alpha and Blue?” Delta looked around, hoping to spot at least one of them. “They left.” Echo said. Delta glanced at Echo before she placed her snout close to the ground, determined to catch their scent before the pack was off, sleep forgotten.

***

Owen and Blue arrived just in time to see humans scattered about, some cowering behind barrels and pipes while others were out in the open with weapons.

Owen sniffed the air and caught the smell of gas. His gaze shifted to the nearest gas station and saw one soldier holding a makeshift flamethrower attached to the gas station.

With a bark, Owen charged at the man and pounced. Blue roared and took down the soldiers closest while Jeannie ran to where her pack was.

"It's Jeannie! And she brought help!"

"Yeah! Go Blue! Go…whoever that other guy is!"

As Owen and Blue took down the soldiers, Sierra and Tango burst through the foliage and watched the chaos.

"There's Alpha!" Sierra barked once she spotted the male biting down a bad soft meat weapon. Owen took down the soldier but then paused once he smelt Sierra and Tango nearby. Quickly locating the two, Owen felt his eyes blazed.

Odd, he was never one to get pissed so easily. Sierra and Tango winced when Owen roared "What are you girls doing here?!" In the background, Owen heard one of the humans speak out in surprise.

"What are raptor hatchlings doing here?!"

"Do you think this is their nest?"

Did you really think I'd let them get this close?!

Blue barked as she ran to them, knocking out a few winded soldiers who were trying to get up.

ROAR!!!

Owen's gaze turned to the T-Rex, finally realizing her presence after charging in. "Watch out! She's gonna hit the pipes!" Dr. Kate Walker shouted in warning.

Owen glanced to where the T-Rex was located, easily spotting the pipes that were dangerously spewing out gas "Shit!" With a warning bark, he and Blue grasped Sierra and Tango by the tail as the two bolted away.

"It's gonna blow!" Oscar screamed just as the pipes let out a massive explosion that startled the T-Rex as it let out a roar.

It was just around that time that Delta and the rest of the pack members burst through. "Sister!" Sierra and Tango shouted but then quickly winced back when they saw the furious look on her face.

"You two are in for a lot of trouble!"

Owen and Blue dropped the girls safely in the circle of raptors before turning to the man whom Owen thought was responsible for all of this. Glancing from the corner of his eye, Owen took note of the compressed group of humans that Jeannie regarded as her pack.

"What's going on? What are they doing?!" The man shouted when he was surrounded from all sides. Blue barked as she glanced at the T-Rex who only had eyes on the man they surrounded.

"I think they're giving you a head start" Dr. Kate Walker replied before the T-Rex slowly started to move as Mr. Kurt backed away quickly, turning around to run.

Big mistake.

The T-Rex charged as the group watched the disappearing figure of the dinosaur. Later on, Kurt's screams echoed in the forest.

The raptors quickly leapt into action as they barked, hissed and roared at the remaining soldiers who took off running. Echo made a move to follow but was quickly called back by Alpha.

"Yeah! Get out of this island!" Chad whooped with joy. "Hey uh…guys, can we get off this island too?" He asked uncertainty.

"Well, I think it's safe to say that we're the first people to fight off a band of evil mercenaries with the help of a Troodon, a Tyrannosaurus Rex and velociraptors" Martin said, still processing the events that actually happened in the middle of the fight. Nature is still one of the great mysteries of Earth.

"They are still here!" Oscar stated when he saw the pack crowding around the two baby raptors.

"Aw…how cute - minus the teeth and claws" Allison stated as the two baby raptors chirped and barked. The humans thought they were witnessing a pack moment.

Unknowingly…

***

"What do you mean we're not ready?!" Tango huffed as she stared down at Alpha only to look away when his stare turned even colder. "Tango, you really need to think first before you act. Look at the dangers you put your sister and yourself through? Also, Sierra I was hoping you would've put your foot down when this happened. You lacked restraint and the other lacked a backbone"

Seeing their downcast forms, Blue stepped up to intervene when she felt that Alpha said enough.

"Alpha, I think they get it" Owen breathed deeply at the reassuring purrs of Blue. This was a different kind of fear. Owen had experienced many things and even knew some of his army mayes to disobeyed orders from time to time if the situation called for it.

He always felt fear when faced with the dangers of death in the army but this fear…this was new.

Is this how ma always feels when I go out?

A memory from long ago flashed across Owen's mind. Of a young, adventurous boy who would leave the house without his parents noticing and coming back late or getting lost to the point his ma would call the police.

He would always get earfuls and slaps in the butt for doing such things but he did them anyway.

Damn ma, I have a lot to apologize for.

Owen sighed as he stared down at the two girls "One day, you'll have to be a part of this pack and one rule is to follow Alpha." A part of him wanted to tell the girls that it was alright to disobey him from time to time but he couldn't and wouldn't do it.

Hatchlings barely survive to adulthood as he knew back when he was young and watched too many documentaries of hatchlings being snatched off from nests, torn to bits and even stolen away.

He wasn't going to let anything happen to his girls.

The girls let out apologetic chirps before they turned to their sister who nodded at them. Owen lowered his snout down to receive their apology.

"The soft meats are watching…can we eat them?" Echo said, casually saying before asking after trailing off in the end. "Leave them, they are pack" Owen said before he made his move to leave with the girls following behind them.

"Thank you!"

Owen turned and let out a bark before he and his pack disappeared straight through the foliage heading straight towards their home.

Chapter Text

There was something in the air…

Scratch that, Owen was sure there was definitely something in the air. He sniffed again but he really could not detect anything unusual.

Seeing his girls still asleep, Owen quietly made his way out of the nest and out in the open for a quick run. He was very much unaware that a certain beta kept her eyes on him before she swiftly but quietly followed him.

***

Delta woke up and found out how late she had woken once she found out there was no one in the nest.

Strange.

Delta stood up and picked up the scent closest to her location and followed it. She found Charlie and Echo standing by with various emotions playing on their faces. Charlie had a fond look on her face while Echo had a more disturbed and uncomfortable look on her face.

"What happened?" Her stare turned to Echo who let out an offended yelp "I didn't do anything this time. We were just wondering where Alpha and Blue went" Echo's tone took a dark turn.

"We tracked the eldest sister's scent but…" Charlie could not look at Delta anymore while Echo breathed deeply before continuing "It's so shameless to produce it around the nest! It ruined my day patrol!"

Delta went to where Echo was gesturing and took a hesitant sniff. Sure enough, Blue’s heat scent entered her nose. Tracking it down, it became apparent to Delta that Blue surrounded this area with her scent alone.

Isn't this a bit extreme…?

After all, its Alpha that decides who he mates with. Then again, showing a potential mate your abilities and warding off other competitors could give Blue a higher chance of winning Alpha's favor.

"Where Bravo and hatchlings?" Delta turned to Echo with a confused chirp "Bravo went to teach hatchlings how to properly sneak" Charlie explained just as Echo was about to answer.

"Sister Delta, you want to be Alpha's mate too?"

That put Delta in a pause. Right now, although her body told her she was ripe to take a mate, there was a bigger part of her that stayed on high alert and slightly paranoid of her surroundings.

These all started when the Predator appeared.

Soon, Delta began to notice how hard it was slowly getting to find prey that isn't alert or skittish. Prey like that are danger to pack with their size since their defenses would be on high alert. More often, they would even see aggressive behavior of prey.

"I…don't know…" Delta answered honestly. She wasn't opposed to Alpha in trying to breed her and carry his eggs but if she were to think of them doing it…Delta would most likely scan the surroundings instead of enjoying the copulation.

It also occured to her that Alpha and Blue always had a special bond Delta wasn't able to identify. Out of all her sisters, Blue was the one Alpha paid attention to the most.

Perhaps he had planned to mate her long before she wasn't a hatchling anymore.

That was the only explanation Delta could come up with. Another thought entered Delta's mind, Alpha's friend that had a somewhat similar bond with her.

A small part of her wondered where Alpha's pack friend was.

Shaking out of her thoughts, she turned to her two sisters "We hunt by ourselves" Since Alpha and beta aren't here, it was natural for the leadership to fall to her at the moment. "Who made you pack leader?" Echo grumbled but followed her sister out in the open.

***

The forest was peaceful today.

Minus the fact that there were a few animal calls echoing, a thing Owen took note as months rolled by. A part of him even felt himself growing more alert as the silence in the forest continued.

It was always so noisy before that thing appeared.

Never mind that, there was an even more pressing matter to attend to.

He had been thinking of heading back to the nest to see if his girls were awake after his run. It was to his surprise to see Blue suddenly appear right in front of him as he made his way back. At first he thought she needed something, probably about today's hunting strategies.

He was right in the first half but very much wrong on the other one.

Owen slightly backed off as Blue advanced. Her eyes dangerously looked a lot like a predator spotting their favorite prey.

"Blue what-"

"I really want to mate with you Alpha."

Owen really felt his brain might explode by the sudden bombshell his beta had just announced to him. Currently, he was cornered against a tree with Blue's snout close to him to the point that Owen was sure if their snouts were actual humana mouths, they would be perceived as kissing.

Wait, how do dinosaurs even kiss? Or do they just show affection by rubbing against each other, biting and licking?

Why does that sound even weird in his head?

Owen felt his IQ just dropped when Blue boldly licked his snout. "BLUE!" Owen's tone was in between shock and harshness. Blue backed off, seeing how agitated Alpha looked.

"Beta can wait for Alpha"

Seeing as Blue wasn't going to press on her advances, Owen nodded before he suddenly caught a whiff of a familiar scent he scented back in the nest when those kids invaded their nest.

Don't tell me…

Owen's gaze drifted down before his eyes went back up, suddenly feeling like a pervert if he had checked to see if it was Blue…producing something from that general female area.

"I need some time alone" Owen mumbled before he briskly walked away, trying to subtly get away. It might've been rude but Blue took note of Alpha's rigid form and the way he almost stumbled to get away made her excitement from obtaining Alpha as a mate doubled.

It was very unfortunate that heightened scents of dinosaurs in heat could very well be a feeding beacon for two dangerous predators.

***

Delta growled once they came across another dead prey pack. This one was a little smaller than the last dead prey pack they saw. Delta had no idea if this was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Herd scattered everywhere." Echo stated as she checked the surroundings. There were more tracks she could sniff, obviously this was a much bigger prey pack before but they scattered.

This will be a problem for the pack if Killer keeps killing prey food.

Delta let out another frustrated growl.

Charlie's ears picked up quick movement and her body lowered. "Something's coming…" No sooner had she said those words, something burst through the foliage and the girls were assaulted with the scent of a familiar blood that made their hackles rise and anger to take over.

Apha's blood.

***

Owen held back from fully screaming out in pain as he tried to ride off the poison in his system. Right beside him, Blue pulled out the last remaining barbs embedded in Alpha's body.

It was hard seeing her Alpha like this. It made Blue feel useless as she lay beside him. A memory of Alpha's kind helping those raptors Alpha took in, made her want to track them down but she didn't want to leave Alpha.

Owen's vision was swimming as his system worked against the poison. It was a mistake on his part, he had let his guard down and Blue was clearly in no shape to control her heat. They were quickly ambushed by the Killer Predator; they had managed to get away but not before Owen received another big shock to his life.

Another creature, almost the exact replica of the other one they were trying to get away.

How and when?

Were the first thoughts that entered Owen's mind. He had no time to get his thoughts together when it locked its gaze onto Blue.

He had no idea when his body reacted, all he knew was that something embedded itself in his body before a burst of pain invaded his brain.

How they managed to get away was a mere stroke of luck when the other one emerged and the two suddenly duked each other out with the intent to kill.

Owen's mind was hazy as he leaned against Blue as they quickly moved away from the fight and seeked shelter.

Which led them to an abandoned cave they now occupy.

Judging from the smell, Owen guessed it was a Parasaurolophus herd that stayed here.

Feeling some movement  before a warm body placed itself next to him, Owen was assaulted with Blue's natural scent. The familiar scent became a comfort to Owen as he fought off the pain.

"Alpha…"

Wet.

Something wet landed on Owen's face as he bleary opened his eyes to see Blue staring down at him. Owen wondered whether he was hallucinating or not because he was sure he saw tears streaming down Blue's face.

Blue let out mournful noises as if she was mourning a dying loved one. "Blue…" Reassuring and wheezing purrs broke out of Owen's mouth as he tried to ease her worries. In the back of his mind, he probably was just adding fuel to the fire of Blue's sudden confession of…love? Do dinosaurs even know how to fall in love?

A sharp pain from the numbing sensation made Owen shift slightly in discomfort. He'll figure things out in the morning.

Right now, the feeling of Blue's warmth right beside him and her comforting smell allowed Owen to drift in a lulling sleep.

***

It rained.

Delta wanted to roar out loud in frustration when she lost the scent. Echo barked as she scanned the surroundings, ear straining for any sound of Alpha or Blue.

The pack had been surprised when not one but two Killers appeared and the stench of Alpha's blood wafted into them. The girls attacked in fury.

However, it occurred to Delta that the Killers seem less interested in them but more interested in themselves. Delta barked at her sisters to back off and they watched as the two Killers, identical in every way, attacked and tried to injure the other to the point of fatal wounds.

Finding that searching for Alpha was more important than

"Alpha is okay, Alpha is smart and sister Blue is with Alpha" Charlie chirped. Delta and Echo looked at each other before agreeing to Charlie's words.

They needed to head back to the nest quickly. Bravo is vulnerable alone with hatchlings around her.

The pack turned around and left, memorizing the area so that they would search again when the rain ends.

***

Owen's stomach rumbling was the first thing that woke the injured raptor up. Owen lifted his head only for him to plop it back down when a wave of dizziness spread. The scent of raw meat entered his nose and his stomach rumbled.

"Alpha?"

Eyes looking up, Owen spotted Blue bringing in a large chunk of meat. She dropped it close to him enough for his jaws to clamp shut on a huge portion as Owen ravenously ate his fill.

Once done, Owen tried to stand up. He weakly stood as he surveyed the area. They were in  a cave, quite far from the nest and there was no sign of the two Killers they encountered.

His mind went back to the present when Blue suddenly appeared close to his face. Remembering her sudden confession before the ambush, Owen was suddenly hit with an internal crisis.

Blue, his companion, his raptor of whom he considered close to his child, is currently asking for him to take her like a man would to a woman of his interest.

What am I going to do?!

Notes:

Next Chapter Teaser:

The kids are back and they brought guests!

Not the kind that a sane person or dino would let them enter their own home. With the threat now endangering the pack, Owen and his pack with an unlikely alliance with six kids must stop the threat before it threatens to add more disruption to the delicate balance on the island.

Chapter 17: The Final Showdown

Chapter Text

Owen and Blue slowly made their way to the nest with the comforting and quiet sounds of the forest entering their ears. Although it made Owen slightly aware at how close Blue was sticking to him especially after her confession.

Blue was just beside herself with relief when she found that Alpha seemed to be strong enough to walk back to the nest.

Yes, Alpha is strong. Her perfect and only chosen mate.

She was very much unaware of the internal crisis brewing in Owen's mind.

***

How am I supposed to go about this?!

How long did Blue even have this?

Owen's mind was having an internal crisis while on the outside, he was steadily walking back to the nest. His entire body was fighting off the poison at the moment and it was a shock to him that he was still alive even moving albeit slowly.

He wasn't one to be a nerdy geek on science so he chopped it off to his strange transformation as a raptor and his heightened immune system.

Owen stopped to rest for a while as Blue took position to guard. Without her noticing, Owen began to study her. From a human aesthetic point of view, she was downright horrifying with death covering her entire being like a warning beacon.

To a velociraptor's perspective…Owen thought of the camaraderie he and Blue had even before he became what he is now. She was strong no doubt about that, she strategizes on the next course of action every hunt when the first would fail, he knows he could trust her to lead the pack when he's not around and the trust they had to each other was tightly bonded by the ever growing trust and experiences they had with each other not just the imprinting part.

Dangerous and Beautiful.

Blue yelped when she heard a loud smack and whirled around to see Alpha looking blankly in another direction. She wasn't sure what made the sound but seeing that Alpha was unharmed, Blue returned to looking out for any attacks.

Owen winced slightly at his aching head which seemed to have doubled all the more the pain he felt. It was hus own fault for that, the thought was so shocking that he needed something to wake him up before he dared to go down that path further.

Been a raptor too long Grady.

Owen sighed as he turned his attention back to Blue. He wasn't sure when it happened but it suddenly occurred to him that his 3 year old girl was already an adult. Not his little hatchling anymore.

Owen stood up, holding back an invisible bile from coming out and barked out to Blue that they were leaving. The pair walked silently through the forest, very much unaware of the chaos that would soon brew in their own nest.

***

Delta wanted to curse herself. It was a mistake on her part. She had forgotten to cover their tracks lest a much bigger and stronger predator finds them.

Now the Killer is inside their nest and roaming around it and spreading its invading scent like it owned the place. A primal part of her wanted to rush forward and attack but a rational part of her needed to wait for the chance to attack.

Bravo and the hatchlings stayed farther behind, with Bravo making sure the scents of her sisters were covered.

"More intruders…" Echo growled as their attention turned to a familiar group of children with one of them holding a familiar weapon.

Danger. Threat.

Eyes locked on the unsuspecting boy, the raptors waited for the right moment to corner the kids. Hopefully, Alpha and beta sister Blue would be back in time.

***

Something was wrong.

Both raptors scented the air and their bodies grew tense. The sniffed the air and on the ground and growls erupted within them.

Shit.

Owen shifted to a run but stopped when he felt his body spasm in pain. Blue let out worried noises when she saw Alpha fall. Looking up at Blue, Owen sternly gave her an order "Go find and help the others. I'll catch up!" Blue wanted to protest but steeled herself when she saw Alpha glaring at her, slightly challenging her to disobey an order.

Blue quickly dashed through the foliage as Owen struggled to sit up from the bouts of pain he was feeling.

Bear with it Grady!

Owen stumbled before his head turned to his side and vomited out a huge volume of weird looking, coloured gunk.

***

"Where's Alpha?" Was the first thing Echo questioned when Blue arrived at the scene without Alpha. "Alpha fine but injured. Ordered beta to deal with the threat" The displeasure in her tone made it clear to the sisters what Blue felt about it.

Children screaming entered their ears and all attention veered to their nest which was no doubt on the verge of being destroyed completely.

That did not sit right with the pack.

Just as the children ran out of the entrance way to avoid getting chomped and buried down by a pair of aggressive hybrids, they were soon forced back when a pack of familiar raptors semi-circled themselves around them, leaving the kids nowhere to go but back.

The kids huddled themselves closer together as they were caught in between a territorial pack of raptors and a pair of aggressive hybrids.

Who exactly came up with a dangerous plan again?

"What do we do?!" Kenji whispered as they all looked around for…something… anything!

The raptors roared as they faced the bigger opponents before turning their attention to the kids. The kids in turn were close to cowering and trying to appear small.

The two hybrid predators were busy engaging in what appeared to be an argument, finding those that looked small to them to be weak, that would soon quickly become deadly.

Darius reached out for the tranq gun but froze when a raptor's snout was literally inches away from biting his hand off. Darius pulled back as Blue growled as she gave him a challenging look. She remembered this one.

The one that stunned both her and her sisters when he dared to try and take Alpha's position.  Seeing the challenging look that was written quite plainly on the raptor’s face, Darius’ heart sped up as he breathed deeply and closed his eyes with his hands raised up and palms open as a human gesture for surrender.

He has no idea if this raptor understood his movements.

Blue had no idea what this hatchling was doing but she recognized the position. Back when they were just hatchlings, there was someone that entered their nest they didn’t recognize and their first instinct was to attack. Unfortunately, that resulted in all of them being caught. Blue had no idea what was going on but the second she was lifted up, hatchling instincts to call to their parents kicked in.

In other words, the baby raptors made noises.

It was all it took for Blue to spot Alpha barrelling in with a furious look on his face as he tackled the intruder. Later, Blue spotted the intruder making a position the hatchling was doing right now and perceived it as a sign of submission.

Remembering that, Blue quickly made her decision “Bigger threat kill first!” At once, the pack moved to attack the hybrid that was on the ground. A sudden dinosaur brawl occurred that if the scene wasn’t so terrifying and so very real, Kenji was sure he would be yelling and cheering.

Blue let out a pained roar when the Killer literally slammed her to the ceiling via jumping up high with Blue on her back. Delta and Echo retaliated by chomping down the hybrid’s two feet to try and bring it down. Charlie secured the tail to make sure it didn’t swing around dangerously close to her sister’s. Despite their small stature, raptors were known to have a very tight grip on their prey.

And so it became a weird dance of the five of them trying to pin the other down. Never mind the ceiling was slowly caving in thanks to the other hybrid trying to get in from above, clearly high on bloodlust after watching so many red converging together.

***

Bravo was itching to do something as her ears picked up on the sounds of her pack fighting. Her sisters were of no help as well, glancing at her then back to the direction of their invaded nest. “Sister…” Tango looked up at her with a concerned look as well as impatience. A part of her wanted to join in with the pack to fight, she and Sierra had been training for this. Unfortunately, she took up more of Blue and Delta’s strict rule of listening to orders.

“We can help!” Sierra argued, finally letting go the last of her patience. Bravo wanted to snap her jaws at her in warning when she caught the scent of Alpha from behind. Turning around, she saw Alpha coming out of the forage, still looking sickly but doing fine.

“Alpha…” All three girls greeted as Owen huffed “We have to go." He said before moving to a light sprint towards the battle. Part of Bravo wanted to stop Alpha but seeing the stubborn look on his face. She didn't argue back.

Her sisters enthusiastically followed after Alpha.

***

Owen burst through the forage with Bravo and her sisters and spotted the hybrid on top of their nest. Growls erupted from the raptors as Owen quickly ran ahead and scaled up towards the hybrid. 66w

So consumed was the creature from its bloodlust that it failed to spot Owen running towards it with full speed before the raptor narrowly dodged it violently swinging tail and bit it from behind on its back.

The hybrid roared as it suddenly realized that there was something clinging onto it. Sierra and Tango ran around its leags from underneath, occasionally biting and making claw marks over the skin as it slowly bled red.

The creature leaned all the more forward as it tried to get away, the strain from the weight of the hybrid made the railing and the rusted metal beans snapped.

Owen felt the whole world tilt as they fell. Bravo yelped as she landed hard on the ground while Sierra and Tango fell on top of the hybrid from below and slid off.

Delta managed to push them to the side just in time before a swipe managed to catch her and send her flying to where Echo was.

Owen refused to let go as he roared out a command. "Herd them!" The raptors quickly circled the hybrid monsters around, leaving them no room to escape.

Well, the hybrids were pretty much occupied with roaring and threatening each other to even pay attention to them. The fall of the other hybrid caused the already rusty and broken internal structure to shake before it all but slowly collapsed into huge piles of debris.

Seeing the opportunity, Darius quickly called for his friends. They only needed to push the pillar holding everything together and the whole place would fall.

Feeling medium and small sized concrete hiting his back, Owen glanced up to see the ceiling beginning to cave in. Quickly, he barked at his girls to retreat.

Sierra and Ta go quickly ran beside Bravo as she made it out of the collapsing opening first, Delta, Echo and Charlie came out respectively and it was only after seeing the entire pack was out, Owen and Blue quickly ran to the exit, their bodies squeezing through the debris that was slowly piling up.

There was a loud boom and a huge dust cloud covered the entire area.

Chapter 18: "Peaceful" Times

Chapter Text

As the dust cloud slowly faded away and everyone's visions cleared from all the dust and dirt, the human kids stared at the clawed hand that reached up from the wreck.

Owen tensed up a bit at the sight, waiting for any more movement but after a few minutes of waiting and scenting the air only to smell nothing but death, Owen relaxed his posture. They did it. Holy shit, they managed to kill it.

"Our nest…" Tango's slight whimper made Owen turn to stare at the young raptor who eyed what remained of their nest. Echo huffed and growled. The raptors had mixed feelings when they saw their destroyed nest.

A part of them felt detachment as soon as they saw the destroyed nest as if the place they just lived in was nothing more than just temporary shelter. Another part though, felt anger and frustration at seeing the nest.

Owen, noticing the conflicting expressions on their faces, decided it was time to leave the area. "Let's go" Tango and Sierra looked like they were about to protest but a stern look from Alpha stopped them and followed the pack as they disappeared into the bushes before the kids could turn their attention to them.

***

The sunset seemed to brighten as the raptors made their way across the woods. For a moment, Owen felt a swift change in the atmosphere almost as if the heavy and tense feeling he had been receiving all but disappeared.

Slowing to a slight jog, Owen noticed that the dinosaurs were slowly moving back to where their places were, ones that were closest to their nest where the hybrids intruded.

Owen hummed as he slowed even more to a walk. The walk made the pack's tense bodies relax as the bloodlust brewing inside them simmered down.

"Where do we go now?" Tango asked. As she stared at Alpha with a curious look on her face. Owen huffed as he stared ahead of the woods that were slowly dimming down in the sunset's rays. What appeared to be a silent and terrifying scene made Owen's blood slightly pump with excitement as he remembered the days he spent exploring the woods from beyond his family's yard as a kid.

"We'll find an even better nest" He looked towards Blue who gave him a nudge with a purr. Echo snorted at the display while Tango and Sierra started chattering about what their new nest might look like.

"Water falling is coming," Delta said, sniffing the air. Owen raised his snout up and sniffed as well. Immediately the smell of rain water and the sound of thunder reached her nose and ears.

"We'll take shelter. Find a new nest tomorrow" Owen said and none of the girls made any argument as he led them deep into the woods.

***

The sound of thunder that rarely appeared in Jurassic World Park made Sierra and Tango scoot closer to the closest pack mate they found.

Charlie curled herself around Tango while Echo promptly shoved a protesting Sierra away only for her to scoot closer to the wall after a brief flash followed by the booming sound of thunder.

Delta wondered if her eyes could roll all the way to the back otherwise she'd just watched the amusement that's her sister. Too proud to say she's terrified and putting up on a brave face.

Owen and Blue lay down side by side. To be fair, it was Blue that took the initiative to lay beside Owen, said Alpha managed to scoot slightly away before he lost any more room to scoot away.

Now Owen was contemplating on what grounds his relationship with Blue stands. Why is he contemplating? Because just a few hours ago, Blue had just straight up confessed to him about her feelings and he had gone from seeing her as his dangerous kid to a full grown woman of a raptor that wasn't ashamed to speak things like this.

Owen suddenly felt like a school boy who had just received his first confession. Although he wouldn't mind if women flock around him to raise his pride a bit as a man, it was quite different on the subject topic of love.

Claire Dearing, the face of the red headed woman who literally stole Owen's heart enough to pursue her (that ended when they had a disaster of a first date) was his first love and though he remembered her face, Owen can't help but notice his clear image of her face was slowly becoming blurry as days pass (He wasn't exactly sure of the time and day).

"Alpha?" Blue's voice broke him of his musings and turned his attention to her only to find out that she was examining his body with a worried look on her face "I'm fine Blue" He reassured. Literally, after vomiting that colorful gunk out, he had been feeling slightly better, if not for running a slight fever but it was nothing that he couldn't handle.

Blue hummed before settling herself close to him again and closed her eyes to drift off to sleep. Curled up like this, Owen could see the little hatchling Blue was before she grew up into the deadly and lethal raptor she is now.

After some brief hesitation, Owen curled himself around her and closed his eyes to sleep, the booming thunder and pitter patter of rain sounded more and more like nature's lullaby at night.

***

Helicopters.

That was the first thing Owen heard from a distance. Despite the thunder and rain, Owen managed to catch the sound of helicopter propellers from time to time which roused him from his sleep.

Straining his ears to make sure he wasn't hallucinating, the sound became clear after a few seconds of booming thunder. He slowly stood up, feeling Blue shift from her sleeping position.

He stared at her sleeping form then at the rest of the girls before deciding to venture out on his own, not far from where his girls rest.

He followed the sound till he got out of the clearing and came across a cliff. Turning his head to the right, he spotted the light of a helicopter in the distance.

He squinted his eyes before growling. Aside from the kids stuck on the island (He was quite impressed by their survival skills), no other human stepping foot on Isla Nublar have good intentions.

Deciding to bring the girls deeper into the forest, Owen went back to their temporary nest to wake them up.

Blue woke up from Owen's incessant nudging and all sleep left her when she caught one look of Owen's slightly worried look "Alpha?" Her gaze sharpened as she stood ready for anything he told her "More humans coming. Need to bring pack further in"

"Alpha went out by himself?" Blue startled squawked woke the rest of the girls up as they groggily tried to get their bearings "I'm fine Blue, Didn't even get close to them" Owen said before turning to the girls.

"We need to leave, more humans coming"

"Alpha, we can fight them off," Echo protested. Almost having enough of running away. Delta hummed but didn't disagree with Echo's statements. Seeing how stubborn his girls have become, Owen wanted to snap his jaws and bark at them for their defiance but held himself back.

Seeing their looks, Owen knew he can't persuade the girls into hiding so he might as well bring them along with the excursion.

***

Scenting the direction the helicopter was heading, and the obvious loud sounds it was making, Owen and the pack ran after the sound until they came across a vast clearing. Owen halted in his run as did the pack, feeling alertness seep in.

Owen turned to the pack "Blue and I will scout ahead, the rest will lay low and keep watch" Blue perked up at that before the two quickly crouched low and began to sneak their way close.

Hiding behind a boulder big enough for two raptors to hide, Owen risked a peek and his anger almost immediately returned when he saw who was climbing out of the helicopter

"Wu…" It wasn't lost to Blue at how much venom her Alpha seemed to release as he glared and showed his set of teeth at the soft meat in white. Setting her eyes on the target, Blue narrowed her gaze at Wu, remembering the prey's stature before she felt Alpha nudge her and used his snout to point out the hidden hatchlings not far from where they were.

Blue let out a curious and startled noise. Why are hatchlings here?

There was another sound of a helicopter and Owen looked up only to move back in shock when a cage that was tied to the helicopter by a cable was lowered. It was obvious that the cage was meant for a dinosaur to be locked in.

A horrible thought went into Owen's mind. Did Dr. Wu come for him? Knowing the doctor, Owen would think that Wu would go as far as to retrieve him for experimental reasons.

It placed him on edge but it didn't rattle him. He and Blue observed the entire scene with Owen forcing his body to stop when one of the men managed to grab the little blond haired girl while the other escaped.

"We avoid them. Humans are dangerous for the pack, especially the cage…".

Blue wanted to argue but seeing the cage and the familiar tools she knows humans use to harm, she had to concede.

The two returned to the pack who looked about just to have reached the last of their patience before they perked up when they saw Alpha appear with Blue.

"Bad humans. Dangerous" Blue informed "Prey to challenge?" Echo perked up. She was always up for a game of taking down not-so-easy to kill prey.

"No, we hunt first. Gather strength then decide if we attack or not.'' Owen said, realizing they haven't eaten in the past few hours. Their stomachs must be close to empty by now.

Feeling their stomachs rumble at the promise of food, the raptors quickly left the area and headed to a nearby spot where herds of prey should be grazing.

***

For once, Owen let himself forget about Wu and his team and focused more on enjoying a meal with his girls after a successful hunt, this was the first bountiful hunt they had ever had since the crazy hybrid woke up from cryo storage.

Sierra managed to let out a burp while Tango went off to take a short dump in the company of Charlie.

Owen made sure to keep an ear out for any unusual movements or sounds within his hearing reach.

CRACK.

All heads turned to one direction before Owen barked at the girls that they move out, it was dangerous to linger here linger than they should. Snacking on their last piece of meat, the raptors quickly disappeared.

***

"Do you really think a human could turn into a dinosaur? I don't know man, sounds like a whole lot of bull"

"The more you hear it, the more I feel like its just movie trope baloney"

Two men couldn't help but wonder of their assignment. To bring back a sample blood or the body of a green eyed human turned velociraptor named Owen Grady. They know Grady based on the reports and the files given and have come to have some sort of small respect for the man until it was hinted on what his updated status is.

"Quiet! The sooner we find Grady, the sooner we finish this mission and get off this island" one soldier said before raising his gun once he heard a dinosaur roar he heard that was quite close for comfort.

The men were one team in charge of capturing Owen or his blood sample while the other team accompanied by Dr. Wu was in charge of retrieving the research left behind in the lab.

One group left to go capture the raptor while the rest stayed behind to watch over and secure the cage.

The men trekked through the dense forest. Cutting down leaves and bushes in the way, it was a miracle no carnivores noticed their presence right away from the noises they were making.

Owen had long since spotted their presence and location.

Currently, the pack was observing their movements. From the way they were clumsily moving around, Owen could tell they were new to the island.

"Spring a trap. Be careful not to get caught"

Owen hissed as they dispersed into groups of two. Sierra and Tango stayed behind to observe and count as back up in case anything happens.

Owen and Blue crept closer to the soldiers who had their guns pointed everywhere. Charlie let out a warning growl before she pounced on the nearest soldier.

The scream was enough to trigger a pandemonium as the girls leapt into action, taking down one soldier at a time and rendering them dead or barely alive as they aimed for their neck.

"Shoot them!"

Owen chomped down on the guns that were loaded with traquilizers before flinging them off somewhere in the bushes. "Shit! It's Grady!" One of them soldiers shouted. Hands grabbed Owen by the neck like a cow as Owen roared in defiance before he twisted his head and managed to bite off the man's nose enough for the man to scream in pain and release Owen.

Gunshots echoed from behind as Owen barked at his girls to retreat. Sierra and Tango quickly ran ahead with Charlie, Echo, Delta and Bravo following right behind them. Owen and Blue were the last to run off. One of the soldiers blindly grabbed a gun that he somehow managed to find and aimed at the two blindly.

One shot and one raptor screeched and went down.

Chapter 19: Natural Enemies

Chapter Text

Owen had heard Blue screech and turned just in time to see her fall with two darts on her neck. "Blue!" Owen cried as he prepared to fully turn around only to jump back when one of the soldiers started shooting at him "Alpha go!" Blue managed to roar out, her vision swimming. Owen growled in frustration as more shots fired before he turned and disappeared.

That was the last thing Blue saw before she went out.

***

"Stop!" Delta roared as the girls halted once they were in a safe distance. Sierra and Tango wheezed, trying to get their air back as Delta checks to make sure everyone was present "Alpha?" She called out when she couldn't spot Owen from where he was.

"I'll go look for him.'' Bravo turned to run back and almost bumped into Owen as he ran right behind her. He had a wild look on his face that startled the girls as they have never seen Alpha look so…afraid?

"Blue's been taken" Was the only thing Owen said before the girls growled in anger and frustration. "We have to go back!" Charlie barked before Owen held her off "Too dangerous. Need to stay low. Humans know we might be coming" Owen said, reeling himself and the girls in.

This is the first time he felt rage like something important had been taken from him and it is something important. Blue is a member of his pack and family.

Is that all she is to you after everything?

A very unknown thought jumped straight in his head which startled Owen that he even thought of that.

He saw her as something akin to family the moment she first hatched followed by her sisters then he saw her as a comrade and someone to confide in during the Indominus Rex fiasco and beyond.

Now that she flat out confessed to him with no other intentions hidden, Owen had no idea what or where their relationship stands right now.

But…

He turned to the direction where he fled and Blue was captured, his eyes dangerously narrowed.

He didn't know what to think anymore. All he knows is that Blue is special and very important to him and he would get her back no matter what.

I'll come get you Blue, I promise

***

Blue growled from her cage. The bars that brushed her sides whenever she moved or so much as turned, made her feel uncomfortable.

She tried many times to claw some soldiers whenever they got too close, she did manage to scratch one but that ended with her being shocked with a taser in revenge.

The soldiers managed to get a hold of Wu to inform him that they were unable to capture Grady. Frustrated as Wu was, he immediately changed tone when they informed him they managed capture a raptor with unusual blue stripes.

Wu was smart enough to confirm it was the Blue velociraptor and immediately informed the men to clear the area. He may not have Grady, but the Blue Velociraptor's blood is needed for his next hybrid project.

Blue barked when she saw the men starting to place long things (cables) on the bars and saw the black thing moving, Blue felt her stomach drop when she realized they were leaving and taking her away from home.

No!

Blue roared and started to bang on the bars and bite at them to no avail. "Someone tranq that fiesty one!" Someone shouted as Blue turned and faced the one aiming a gun at her.

She let out a roar of defiance before it was followed by a man's scream when something blurry shot out of the forage and bit on the man's arms hard. There was a cracing sound before Owen dropped both of the man's appendages in his mouth. He sneered at the screaming man, snapping his jaws in warning.

Blue let out a surprised yelp and reared her head back in surprise as the remaining back ambushed the still stunned soldiers. This time, they aimed for their arms and snapping them off, rendering them useless. The soldoers who weren't immediately killed by the raptors suffered slow and painful deaths by bleeding out on the floor.

"Hello? What's going on?! Someone call -" Owen stomped the device before it could transmit anymore and headed to Blue. The said raptor purred as Owen huffed as he stared at the padlock that served as the lock to Blue’s cage.

What was really different from the lock that shut Sierra and Tango before was that it wasn't big enough that Owen was sure his teeth wouldn't be more than just lose, they would downright shatter his teeth.

Slightly remembering a phantom pain, Owen growled before he raised his hands and began trying to pick the lock. Blue watched in fascination as Owen tried to get his claws into picking the lock that was huge enough for his claws to act as pins.

Owen wasn't sure if the smirk he felt growing was seen on his face when the lock managed to unlock after a few trials and errors. His claws received scratch marks which would fade overtime as they would be replaced with new ones once the parts that were scratched over grew and Owen needed to trim them down via scratching on hard walls, concrete and basically hunting that would keep his claws sharp.

Blue quickly pushed the cage door open as Owen barked at the girls distracting the soldiers for a retreat. Before the men could even shoot their guns, the raptors were already in the safety of the bushes and trees and out of the clearing.

***

Owen led the pack deeper before coming to a stop once he made sure he couldn't hear any soldier or vehicle chasing after them.

"Big sister Blue okay?" Sierra asked as she stared slightly up at the raptor. Blue let out a reassuring purr as she rubbed the top of Sierra's head.

As soon as she was done, she was slightly startled when Owen suddenly walked up to her and proceeded to give her the concept of a human hug in raptor form. Slowly, Blue relaxed and let herself enjoy this. Owen hummed as the two raptors felt each other, reassured the other was there. The girls felt left out and decided to rub against Blue and Owen.

Blue felt the anxiety she had been trying to bury release and dissipate quick. The safety and security the pack brought released the tension within Blue.

Owen purred as they slowly backed off to give Blue some space. The sound of a helicopter's propellers heading their way made Owen glance up to see a helicopter heading up straight to the skies. He could not stop a growl from erupting before he barked at his pack and they headed straight back to their temporary cave.

It was too dangerous to search for a potential nesting site for now.

***

The night spent in the cabe was uneventful for the pack as they were still quite full from the human meat they had just consumed.

Blue was currently resting but from the slight twitching every now and then, she was having a bad dream not much of a nightmare but enough to make Blue feel uncomfortable.

Owen got up from his sleeping position and lay down beside her. After hesitating for a few moments, he quickly placed his head on top of hers. Feeling a familiar and comforting weight, Blue relaxed and moved her head closer to that warmth.

Owen hummed and closed his reptilian eyes and listened to the sounds. From time to time, Owen would open his eyes and glare at nothing. Events of today that led him to almost losing Blue made him very much wary of the humans that come here.

It never occured to Owen that he was slowly separating himself from his former life as a human his mind slowly consumed with nothing but the pack and survival.

***

Somewhere in a location slightly remote, there was a young woman who was staring up straight at the sky with her hands clasped together in prayer.

It had been months since the incident.

Months since he last talked to her and her husband.

Whenever she asked for his whereabouts, all she had were vague answers that lead to more questions.

Is it so hard to ask if her son was safe or not?

Owen, my boy, where are you?

Chapter 20: Pack bonding

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Charlie, youngest of the raptor pack before the addition of Sierra and Tango, was curious by nature. It also helped that she was quite nosy with everything that's going on around her.

So when she found out how close Alpha and the eldest were getting after bad humans came and almost took the eldest away, Charlie thought getting one's life in danger was one way for the bonds of the pack to strengthen.

So imagine Delta and Echo's surprise when Charlie suddenly brought it up. That ended with Delta explaining everything to Owen which brought Charlie to this situation right about now.

Finding ways for pack to bond. Aside from the hunts they go for food. Normally on dinosaur behavior focusing on raptors, they don't normally behave like this and oftentimes, pack bonds depend on each individual's usefulness in the pack, once they are deemed worthless, they are given two options: Kicked out or die by the pack. Either way, a raptor without a pack signals their death sentence.

This all changed when Owen, a human who studies animal behavior but really had no idea how to act like one, became the actual leader of his raptor pack.

Owen had thought of this before but he wasn't exactly sure if all of his girls would agree to this kind of new hunting style.

***

"This is fun"

Charlie squawked as she held up another fish in her mouth. Echo and Blue were busy with competing on who would grab and hunt the most fish. It was a rare day that Owen took to relax and enjoy with his girls.

Owen never thought the girls would just straight dive in when he introduced water hunting to them. Right now, the girls were having fun trying out new techniques and having fun catching fishes (that would later become their snack) and hone out their skills.

"Sister Delta!"

Charlie called and from the shore, Delta had a look that made Owen think she was glaring at the water as if it were her hated enemy.

This would probably be Charlie's 3rd call for the second eldest to come join them. It wasn't that Delta was scared , she was a bit uncomfortable with this new kind of hunting ground.

Owen waded close to her and nudged her encouragingly. Delta let out a hesitant squawk before Echo suddenly sided up on her other side and forcefully pushed her, causing her and Owen to tumble and fall straight into the water.

Delta opened her mouth to shout at Delta only to sputter when water quickly filled her lungs. Owen expertly moved under her and pushed her up to the water's surface as she steadied her legs from the current.

Her eyes sharpened straight towards Echo who was already heading straight for the shore. Blue took it upon herself to pull her suster back via biting her tail and yanking her hard back to the water.

Echo shrieked and when her clawed toes couldn't find anything solid to latch on and ended up slipping. Owen wasn't dire if raptors could laugh but he swore Delta would be chuckling evilly at her sister's luck.

Echo quickly pounced on Blue as the two ended up in a water fight. Charlie shrieked when she was doused with water and ended up joining them in the fight but was pulled back by Delta when the latter realized Echo and Blue were completely ignoring her and focusing more on pushing the other down underwater.

Owen watched his girls "play", munching on freshly caught fish and wished that moments like these would last.

There was the sound of rustling as Owen's head snapped to the direction but stopped when he caught the scent of Bravo, Tango and Sierra.

The two younger ones burst out of the bushes and headed straight into the crossfire of Echo and Blue. What happened next were screeches of messy limbs strewn about with Bravo watching the scene with a blank look on her face. Owen's face probably matched hers as well.

"Sorry Alpha. Told them to run slow, never listen to orders" Bravo apologized for her sisters but Owen shook it away. Having a time spent more on other activities rather than hunting or basically anything that warrants a life or death situation is good for the physical and mental health as far as Owen knows through experience as a former Navy.

"You may join them if you wish" Owen chittered before he made a move to walk away. Ignoring the younger ones duking it out with Delta trying, and stressfully failing, to stop the younger ones from joining sides with either Blue or Echo and starting another round of water fight.

"Alpha, is there something wrong?" Bravo chirped as Owen stopped abruptly before turning to her and replied "Nothing. I just need to check on something" He then left the area with Blue glancing at Owen with a concerned look on her face before Echo shoved her and taunted her that snapped her out of her thoughts and went back to the fight.

***

Owen narrowed his eyes as his dew claws tapped the earth. He was sure he felt it and it was much stronger and getting more obvious.

The earth was shaking.

In the days Owen spent working in Jurassic World both as human and now as a raptor, he knew earthquakes rarely happen in this area and if it does, it shouldn't be constant and getting stronger at the same time.

Owen stared up at the sky that was filled with white fluffy clouds. Such a beautiful scenery if only it did its purpose to calm Owen's growing agitation.

These small, subtle and growing earthquakes. I don't know why but I really have a bad feeling.

Notes:

Sorry for the very, very late update. Going from place to place for Christmas and New Years with little time to relax is tiring that I'm slightly having writer's block at the moment. Thankfully, I managed to finish this one. Anyways, here's a small chapter for you readers and have a Happy New Year

Chapter 21: Island Invasion

Chapter Text

Owen hadn't felt the shakes anymore after a long period of weeks that passed by and decided to put that behind for now.

Right now he was more enjoying the times he was spending with his girls and expanding his knowledge on dinosaur behavior.

It doesn't hurt to know a little bit more about the prey you're eating and the predator you're avoiding.

Sierra and Tango had grown into fine adolescent raptors. Owen couldn't help but feel pride once he saw them take down a pteranodon on their own when they were out hunting for avian prey among the cliffs.

Delta had given them extra meat from her catch as she grabbed more meat from the pteranodon. It still baffles Owen to this day as to why she would prefer that over meat that has less bones.

Another thing that changed within the pack was his relationship with Blue.

It did take him some time to accept whatever thing that's been going on with her and while he was still gently rejecting her advances, it gave Blue motivation in her pursuit when Owen stopped verbally rejecting her and just let her do as she pleases, only moving away when it got too…comfy.

Life on the island was simple but full of adventure and danger in every turn and Owen often would feel that childish and youthful drive of adventure back when he was still a kid that would wander around their woods for hours on end with a wild imagination for danger at every turn.

However, peaceful life never usually lasts. At least, not for animals who were considered to be extinct.

Owen took one last look of the dark horizon of glittering stars, a part of him thankful that none seemed to resemble the lights of a ship or a helicopter.

After the last human encounters with some good but most of the time, they were hunters that looked for them as easy prey or brought them out of the island to be sold off to some high company.

It filled Owen with a small sense of foreboding of when the next batch of humans will arrive and how much of a threat they will be to the whole island? To his pack?

At one point, he had almost forgotten the face of human kindness in the face of humans pointing guns at him. The only things that kept him sane enough to let the humans go (once he was pretty sure they would never set foot in this island again) was the face of his parents and the friends he has.

But even then, their faces were slowly starting to blur from his memories.

He was cut off from his musings when he heard someone approach. Blue, from what he gathered from scent alone, never bothered to hide the stomps of her clawed feet.

Blue didn't say anything except started giving him comforting rubs and licks that were too close to his jaw. It was moments like this thay Blue figured her Alpha missed them. Granted, her views to humans in general will always be filled with hostility but perhaps she might make an exception with Alpha's former pack.

So long as they don't anger her.

Owen finally reciprocated and let out rumbling purrs and noises as he nuzzled back, even going so far as to lick in between her eyes. Blue, subtlety but enthusiastically responded back.

The moment would have lasted for another few minutes had it not been for the unmistakable honk of a ship. Scratch that, Owen heard more honks reply back from the first one and the moment ended as he snapped his attention back to the sea that stretched for miles.

It was faint but he could see it.

Lights that weren't stars getting bigger and bigger.

Deciding to worry about that tomorrow since there wasn't anything he could do, Owen and Blue quickly retreated back to the nest under the cover of the night and trees.

Dozens of huge ships meant to carry heavy loads began unpacking empty cages of different sizes. Coupled with vehicles and other machinery that will aid in carrying the empty cages once it is filled up.

"Alpha…this is bad" Delta growled as the pack hid under the obscurity of bushes, far from the humans to spot them but close enough to see the action unfold.

Owen knew they weren't the types of humans they had dealt with before. They were prepared, dressed fully in clothing that signified they were here to stay and for a long while.

It didn't help that Owen spotted a crate full of night vision goggles. What really placed the raptors on edge was when the first batch of human soldiers came back but this time, they weren't alone.

"What are they doing?!" Charlie barked when she saw prey and predator literally walking side by side with the humans, their firms rigid and eyes straight ahead as if they were robots.

Fuck.

Owen cursed when he got the gist of the situation when he saw the remote controls on the hands of some soldiers that seemed to be the ones that control the dinosaurs.

They did it.

They finally made something that could suppress them with no will to fight. As the next batch of soldiers began to move, Owen motioned his girls to head back as they quickly moved away.

Owen needed a counterattack plan for this. After all they have been through, he wasn't going to let them take him or his girls away from the island, their home.

He first needs a plan for when they would come at night.

Unknown to our Raptor Alpha, there was talk amongst the soldiers that began to head out with guns and remote controls in hand. Talks of a single raptor pack that was located somewhere on the island.

Their intelligence far surpasses the known factors scientists have on the raptor packs from Isla Sorna.

What really stood this pack out of the rest was its Alpha. An unknown raptor that wasn't in the known files of the dinosaurs in Isla Nublar. Many questioned those working on Isla Nublar before the incident but even they were baffled at the sudden appearance of a raptor they have no knowledge about.

The only thing that could connect that Alpha raptor was the workers of the raptor pen but among the workers there, Owen Grady was the only person missing.

Many speculated he died from the incident, believing he was killed by the very raptors he trained or by the new Alpha raptor that took his raptors.

His parents, Angela Lila Anders-Grady and Patrick James Grady, never believed in the rumors of their son's death mainly because Owen's closest friend, Barry Sembène, assured them their son was very much alive but for reasons unknown, cannot return home to them.

Nevertheless, many knew that by capturing the Alpha raptor would mean they scored a jackpot. With every dinosaur they caught, they couldn't help but scan for any signs of raptor activity.

The island of Isla Nublar, blooming with life and untouched by humans, was slowly being invaded by dinosaur enthusiasts who see them as nothing but cash.

Chapter 22: Danger Rises, Extinction's Imminent

Chapter Text

If there was anything that pissed Owen off, it was when people seemed to mind his own business. It occurred to him quickly that they were more interested in him and his girls when he noticed they would always seem to double check the surrounding area and they seem to carry extra ammo in their bags.

It forced the pack to separate into smaller groups to hunt to avoid getting caught in enemy lines when they group together. He trusted Blue to lead the other team while he and Echo would try to destroy the organization bit by bit and rescue the dinosaurs.

It confused the girls a bit on their Alpha’s plan so Owen was quick to tell them if they would let the humans take the prey away and there would be no food left for them to hunt. Such words gave the girls their consent on the plan and so this happened for over a month after the humans invaded the island.

Owen and Echo crouched down to get a better view of the situation. As far as Owen observed the device can be used only on a specific remote that controls the dinosaurs, they destroy the remote then the dinosaurs are free.

Echo was about to move close to attack the nearest guard holding a remote when Owen bit her by the tail and dragged her back. Echo held back a noise before turning to her Alpha with a questionable look and slight annoyance. Licking the bite wound as an apology, Owen gestured to an oncoming yacht.

It looked expensive and probably belonged to someone rich, then again, anyone that managed to hire a fleet to enter the island can be indeed rich. “Let’s take a closer look” Owen mumbled as he and Echo moved to another hiding spot to listen in on the conversation (mostly it’s Owen that listens to the conversation).

“Alpha…that boy…” Echo’s growl caught Owen’s attention before he followed his gaze and saw… him .

The events back then were hazy in Owen’s memories but he was sure that boy was with the group of children that had been trapped on the island. So what was he doing here with all these men around? Where were his friends?

Owen didn’t have time to think about the situation with the boy when his attention focused more on the two men talking. He couldn’t hear clearly what the men were talking about but he guessed it had something to do with this little project they had been working on. He recognized one of the men as Lewis Dodgson.

He watched him hand the other man what appeared to be a list. He wasn’t sure what kind of list it was but they can’t act right now, not with all these soldiers around. Hissing slightly at Echo, the two turned and headed back to where they came from to complete their objectives.

Blue had managed to hunt a decent meal for the pack and had decided to bring some for Alpha and…Echo. In all honesty, she was slightly angered by the humans that keep coming on the island and interrupting her pursuit of Alpha. When something like this always happens, it makes Alpha focus more on driving them away than any other thought he might spare for her.

Then again, this was one of the traits she loved about Alpha. That drive to protect and defend and stop danger from coming towards the pack. On their way back to the nest, Blue halted when she caught a whiff of nearby humans and they were close to the erection of their old nest where the monsters lay. Seeing the seriousness on Blue’s face, Bravo dared to ask “What’s wrong?” Blue didn’t reply but gave a sharp order to Delta to keep the pack moving to the direction of the nest but quietly.

Delta, sensing the urgency in Blue’s orders, didn’t question the order and barked at the others to keep up. Bravo gave Blue one last concerned look before she followed after Delta. Blue didn’t stand still for long as she headed in the direction of where the humans were.

Owen and Echo managed to disable three remotes before they were gunned down by soldiers. Owen wanted to find out more where they hid a few more supplies of the remote and devices but couldn’t find anything. At most, he only saw dart guns and other equipment.

They’re probably still test driving this thing.

Which is both good and a bad thing. The good thing was that they can still shut this operation down but the only problem is that if this would be a hit, then him, his girls and the rest of the dinosaurs would be in grave danger of being mind controlled slaves.

As he and Echo raced across the forest floor, they were suddenly tripped to the ground not by the soldiers but…

“Echo, get down and move!” Owen roared as he crouched down and began moving ever so slowly while looking up at the shaking trees. Echo followed after him as they soon spotted a clearing.

CREAK…

“RUN!” The two made a break for it as the trees crashed and fell, some even smashing against other trees causing them to topple over. Echo and Owen stumbled and rolled over as they lay down on the ground and waited for the quake to stop.

“Both of you stay close!”

Bravo roared as Sierra and Tango stuck close to her as they ran against falling trees and the shaking ground. Delta led them away from the trees as words from her Alpha echoed her mind.

“If you feel the ground shaking, head for a clearing with no trees and stay there till we find you or it stops”

She remembered the direction of a small clearing not far from where they were and hoped the pack would make it safe without any severe injuries.

Danger! Run! Danger !

Instincts screamed at Blue to run to safety but the raptor had no idea to whom she was running away from. She had managed to trap the humans into the territory of the folding round head prey (Dilophosaurus) but ever since the quaking started, Blue had been dodging falling trees and rocks. She knew she needed to head to safety but the thought of her pack and her Alpha in danger made her run straight into danger and ignore her instincts. All to make sure they were alright and she won't be left behind.

As the shaking stopped, Owen and Echo slowly stood up and surveyed the area “Alpha…” Echo wanted to ask what just happened but then Owen’s attention turned somewhere else. He wasn’t sure if he was seeing things but as he blinked again, he was sure there was a small smoke coming out of the volcano.

Face turning serious, he turned to Echo “Change of plans. There’s something I need to see” Wondering what Alpha wanted to see, Echo could only follow after Alpha though a small part of her can’t wait to see Blue’s reaction when she finds out she and Alpha took longer to return.

If there was one thing that hasn’t changed the last time Owen was here is that the place was always hot. He hasn’t come here ever since this place reminded him how he almost lost his girls. Babies they were back then, he had already bonded to each one of them.

So excuse him that he was still slightly hesitant in coming back here. Lifting his nose up in the air, Owen scented the air before he snorted when heat literally wafted straight to his nose. He snorted as he made his way inside the volcano. He was stunned to see that the ground was slowly but surely filling up with lava.

For a moment, Owen swore he heard roars of worry, agony and pain ringing inside his head before Echo screeches brought him back.

“Alpha, are you okay?” Echo wasn’t one to quickly show concern but right now, it made her shudder when she saw the look in Alpha’s eyes, as if he had already seen what was happening right now.

“It’s nothing Echo, let’s get out of here” Owen said solemnly, he had seen enough to confirm it. The volcano was waking up and once it erupts, the dinosaurs will fall into extinction again. As they turned around, they froze when they heard the sounds of guns reloading.

“Found you…”

Chapter 23: Striving Forward

Chapter Text

Owen quickly placed himself in front of Echo, a snarl ripping out of his throat when the soldiers spread out, forming a half moon circle and blocked the raptors from moving even further. Still, it was a miracle for Owen that Lewis or that other guy was not here. Otherwise, Owen may very well end up having their detached heads in his mouth and innards.

Owen once again growled out a warning at which the men just aimed their guns at him. At Owen’s sudden swish of his tail, Echo pounced on the soldier at the far left of Owen which made the men point their guns at her to fire but then Owen ran straight for the soldier at the far left. Geared and armed as the men were, they forgot one crucial detail, they forgot to protect their heads.

Echo and Owen moved like clockwork as they used the distraction and confusion to their advantage, darting everywhere and making sure to kill one at a time precisely with the victim no longer moving after a few bites and slashes.

Echo dodged as the device barely grazed her before she cleanly bit by the head, her jaws aimed at the eyes which made the man scream in pain. Owen focused more on disabling his prey before he began biting and slashing at him, dew claws burrowing deep in the skin to prevent the man from pushing him away.

A single man shook as he held his gun right in front of him as Echo and Owen cornered him. He stared straight at Owen’s eyes as the raptor approached him. Green eyes threatened to send him straight to the depths of darkness.

“I’m sorry…I’m sorry”

Owen opened his mouth to say something but stopped when blood splashed across his face as the man literally killed himself on the spot. Owen let the blood flow before he closed his mouth and swallowed the remaining. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to say other than to stay away from his pack but with their impending doom, he wasn’t sure.

By the time Owen and Echo found the pack, Delta had managed to check them for injuries. Charlie only scraped a part of her leg when it caught against a bark of a tree while Sierra and Tango had bruises on their sides when they protected Bravo (she roared at them for that before she started licking them) and Delta was still lightly rattled at what just happened.

Owen scanned his girls before he noticed one of them was missing. “Where is Blue?” Owen asked. The girls looked at one another before Charlie barked out “I thought Sister was with Alpha” Owen cursed himself before he told Delta to lead the pack somewhere safe as he went in search for Blue.

It didn’t take long to find Blue.

Owen and Blue had apparently crashed into each other just as Owen was about to run straight into a bush. He let out a yelp when Blue suddenly appeared and they ended up toppling over each other in a heap before scrambling to stand.

“Blue, are you okay?”

“Alpha, you’re not injured?”

Both of them chirped and barked at the same time. Owen blinked before he purred “I’m fine Blue. No need to worry” Blue hummed before she nuzzled back. It was always a novel for her to act like this especially when she was around Alpha and her pack.

The two raptors probably would have lost themselves to time had it not been for the sound of a ship’s horn. Owen perked up and separated himself from Blue, which she ganached her teeth at the direction the sound was coming from, before he headed to the docks with Blue after him.

The two arrived at the scene of the entire team packing to leave but they were bringing along the animals that Owen and Echo failed to rescue. It was especially disturbing for Owen to see the boy controlling the remote of a very familiar blue Ankylosaurus.

“Alpha, why do they leave?” Normally, it would surprise Owen and Blue herself that she asked such a question when it was such a good thing the humans were leaving but there was a reason why and Owen knew.

With a heavy heart that felt like it was slowly being filled with sand and stone, he barked at Blue to follow him to where the others were so he could deliver the news.

The air was tense and the girls felt their entire beings straighten up in alert as Owen glanced at each of them with a heavy look on his face “Alpha, what’s wrong? You’ve been like this since we came back from the big hill” Echo said as she noticed the look Owen had on his face. He stared at his girls who stood by his side when the world he knew crashed down and welcomed him to their world.

Now he wasn’t sure if he would let them know or let them live in ignorance that their world was slowly coming to an end. A comforting purr from Blue made him straighten up and quickly break the news before nerves get to him again.

Needless to say, the pack didn’t know how to take that.

It was so silent around the nest by nightfall that it suffocated Owen when he would catch glimpses of Bravo curling herself closer to her sisters or Echo not even grumbling once Charlie managed to accidentally hit Echo’s snout with her foot again.

It terrified him all the more when he suddenly noticed Blue slowly moving away from her sleeping position and heading out into the night. Making sure, he wouldn’t wake the rest of the girls, he followed after Blue silently.

“Alpha…” Of course, Owen knew what an excellent hunter Blue is and with her keen senses, it was easy enough for her to pick up Owen following her. She didn't say anything as he walked up to her to stand by her side but she did glance at him from time to time wanting to say something but she never voiced it.

Owen knew. He knew of her pursuits and he in turn kept a respectful air about them every time she tried to make a move. He put this off for far to long and now that their lives may be ending anytime soon, hell it could happen tomorrow even, he needed to give her an honest and direct answer.

In truth, he had long felt something for Blue that was way beyond special than the rest but the only thing that kept holding him back was the fear of facing the consequences and the hope that he might return back to his world, the world where he was most familiar with and the loved ones he had.

He remembered Claire and the obvious crush he had on her so much so that Barry even set them up on a date (That blew out so fast). He still missed her but with the days he spent with the girls and Blue, the world he knew back then was slowly blurring in his mind, replacing the wild and new world he was thrown into.

“Blue, I…I thought about, well us, and to be honest I still…” Blue watched Owen fumble at his words before he huffed and focused his attention solely on her. “It’s gonna take me some time but I want to…well, go slow” Okay that sounded a lot weirder when he said it out loud cause Owen Grady wasn’t one to second guess his decisions when it involves something life changing in his opinion.

Except when it comes to the subject of Romance.

Blue, not knowing what “Go slow” means but hearing the affirmative tone from her Alpha’s words made her let out a roar with joy before she proceeded to boldly nuzzle against a tense Owen who slowly relaxed his position and began nuzzling back. Said nuzzling turned to purring and Owen’s alarm bells sounded that they were slowly treading dangerous waters here and he wasn’t even sure yet where their relationship stands for now.

Pulling himself away from Blue to give themselves distance, Owen barked out to return back to the nest. The two didn’t say or do anything else once they got back and settled themselves for the night.

However, Owen was painfully woken up by the sounds of Echo and Blue having a brawl with the former roaring and biting at Blue for “making moves” while the others were asleep. Charlie and Bravo watched the brawl with fascination as Sierra and Tango busied themselves to do something else while they patiently waited for it to end.

“They are lively today” Delta commented as she glanced at her Alpha moving to stand up and watched the entire thing in confusion. At first, Owen’s brain wasn’t processing much and was about to ask what the heck Delta was saying when he realized that the entire atmosphere was a little different from yesterday. It was lively again almost as if the conversation they had yesterday didn’t exist.

Owen watched the interaction with a soft look on his face. It was almost as if he was back when he was still in his human form and Echo and Blue were up to their usual arguments and brawls. “Nice as this is Alpha, I suggest we break them up. Otherwise someone might end up having another scar” Her gaze glanced at Echo who sneered, literally showing her teeth and the prominent scar Blue gave her.

Agreeing with Delta, Owen immediately moved to stop the girls from progressing their fight further with the help of Charlie and Bravo. After settling the girls down. Owen stared up at the volcano that was barely visible in the morning fog before he looked at his pack with renewed vigor.

“Let’s hunt”

Chapter 24: TEASERS

Chapter Text

The small, hatchling raptor tripped as he ran across the forest floor. Everywhere he went, there was a sense of urgency and fear shooting through him. He had lost sight of his sisters and the rest of the pack when their nest suddenly got trampled by running prey.

The only thing he could do now was to keep on running and survive.

Survive.

That was the first thing his sire taught him.

Pain was the first thing Blue felt as she regained consciousness though that was soon followed by confusion, realization and pain as she let out mournful and painful yowls and howls. A two legged prey was saying something and trying to press hard on the part that hurt.

Was it trying to kill her?

Blue wanted nothing more than to succumb back to the darkness, at least she didn't have to think about how she was now somewhere far away from her nest, her pack and her hatchlings. The only things that were left of her Alpha that perished under many two legs attacks.

Angela gasped when familiar eyes stared straight back at her. Heart pounding, she didn’t want to believe who this raptor was. Most reports say this was a hidden raptor male that wasn’t ready for showcasing until the incident with Jurassic Park.

Hands tentatively reaching out, Angela called out her son’s name in hopes to receive a reply from the raptor in front of her. All she received was a roar to her face and anxious pacing back and forth in the cage almost as if the dinosaur was searching and looking for someone.

Standing on top of the rooftop with nowhere to go except face death that was standing literally behind them, Patrick James Grady wanted to spew out several curses as he pushed the little girl behind him and formed a protective stance. In front of him stood the dinosaur - could a monster made out of human hands be even considered a dinosaur?- as it growled and lowered itself, signifying it would pounce the moment it had a chance.

The hairs stood on the back of his neck as the little girl behind him clutched his shirt tightly to the point that he was pretty sure it might rip if it wasn’t brand new.

“HEY!”

“Patrick!”

The ex-navy’s eyes widened to see his wife, soaked to the bone with bruises and small wounds, to the body parts that weren't covered by her clothes - and his son’s former first love?, who was banging the gun in her hands with a wild look in her eyes.

The monster turned and roared at her as she deliberately pointed the gun at it before activating the small red laser. Almost like in a trance, the monster followed the small red dot as Claire aimed it at Patrick before moving it away to land on one lone raptor from another roof.

The smaller raptor roared in challenge to the bigger one as Claire almost immediately pressed the attack button. Target locked, both the monster and the raptor leaped into the air to meet midway. The little girl behind Patrick screamed as she closed her eyes and buried her head in his shirt and all Patrick saw were flashes of claws and forest green eyes as his wife shouted out their lost son’s name.

“OWEN!”

There was bloodlust in the air as Owen faced the caged monster that was supposed to be an improved version of the Indominus Rex. He felt his hackles rise as flashes of something from his eyes appeared in glimpses like an old cinematic movie of a time when raptors were smaller than what they are now, of when males…

Ah…

Owen gets it, this monster was a male and had more of Raptor Blood than the Indominus Rex had. This was a fully matured male with the mind of a hatchling and it basically moves on instinct. Now, instincts were rearing when the monster scented his girls.

The monster wanted his girls and Owen was the only male Alpha standing on his way.

A wild look entered Owen’s eyes as he and the monster had a brief stare down amidst the chaos of people screaming and his girls venting out their anger. The hatchlings were thankfully in hiding.

The monster wanted his girls? Owen wasn’t going to let him near them unless he was lying dead and badly mutilated.
