Sometimes, being a prince means doing things you don’t want to

Summary:

This story used to be called "Marry you. Oh, and also you"!

George sneaks away from the castle once in a few days to see his boyfriend, Sapnap. But one day, George doesn't show up, and instead his soldier Dream is there. Georges parents found out he was in a secret relationship with a man, and forced him to marry a girl. The thing is, Sapnap doesn't even know George is a prince, so how is he supposed to help?
Oh and also; Dream has feelings for George...

Or: a Royalty AU with a lot of (love) drama

Notes:

Sapnap is trans (ftm) and uses he/they pronouns! George and Dream are cis and both use he/him.
-
The POV switches a lot, I hope it doesn't make y'all too confused!

Chapter 1: They meet

Chapter Text

George stood in front of the window in one of his castle towers, while looking down upon the kingdom that soon would be his. He sighed as he turned around and walked away, he wasn’t ready. He wasn’t ready to be king yet; he didn’t even know if he could ever be ready for that.

George had a huge fight with his parents the day before because they wanted him to marry some random princess from another kingdom. He –of course- didn’t want this and started arguing with them, which his parents didn’t appreciate. But luck was on George's side that day, and he successfully convinced his parents to not force him to get married to someone they chose for him. However, even with this new compromise, he wasn’t fully happy. He still had to marry a woman.

He still wasn’t able to marry the love of his life.

-

Sapnap carefully placed the cutlery on the table. Even though George had never said anything about this to them, he still knew that his boyfriend was a very strict person and wanted everything to be exactly in the right place. They could always see it on Georges face, when their nose would scrunch up a little bit when the fork was on the wrong side of the plate, or how he looked so concentrated when he placed the cutlery down so that it would line up perfectly and so that it was in the right order. Sapnap didn’t mind this and actually loved placing the cutlery in the right spot now, knowing that something so small could make the brunette happy.

After they placed the last spoon, they heard three soft knocks on his front door. A smile spread across Sapnap's face, of course George was exactly on time, he had not expected otherwise from his lovely boyfriend. He ran towards the door and opened it as fast as he could. And indeed, George was standing there, properly and beautifully dressed as always and with a perfectly straightened back. If Sapnap didn’t know the other worked in the castle as a servant for the prince, they would probably assume that their boyfriend was the mysterious prince himself.

Sapnap jumped into the other’s arms and George embraced him a bit awkwardly but smiled anyway. Before he placed the ravenette down, he did a little spin with the other still in his arms, which made Sapnap giggle. The older one smiled at them and placed a sweet, short kiss on the mouth of the other.

“I missed you,” George mumbled softly under his breath. Their foreheads were touching and their eyes were locked on each other.

“I missed you too, you idiot.” Sapnap said, while playfully giving the other a soft slap on his arm. George just lightly shook his head at his action and let the younger one go out of his arms with a smile. When Sapnap stood on their own feet again, he remembered the dinner he had planned for him and his boyfriend. Their face lit up and they took George's hand to drag him inside of their house.

“Woah Sap, calm down please, what has gotten you all excite-,” George wasn’t even able to finish his sentence, because what he saw in front of him had taken his breath away.  There was a beautiful set table, with an orange candle and a light blue tablecloth - their favorite colors. Some fairy lights were hanging above the table and their light was being reflected by the perfectly lined up cutlery, that was laying in the exact same order as George always placed them in. The brunette almost broke down into tears when Sapnap lead him to a chair and motioned for the other to sit down. The brunette let himself fall down into the chair before he raised his head up, looking at the younger man with admiration. Sapnap just smiled, turned around, and ran away, towards his kitchen.

Georges smile grew even wider – if that was even possible - when he saw Sapnap coming back with a freshly made salmon salad, George's favorite. The ravenette carefully placed the dish in front of his boyfriend's face and also gave the other a quick kiss on his cheek. When Sapnap finally sat down as well, they looked at George's face, trying to see if he liked the little surprise the ravenette had planned for him.

“Sapnap, you’re the sweetest man alive,” George said with no hesitation while tears were now actually starting to form in his eyes, “I love you so much.”

“I love you too George,” Sapnap said softly, a loving smile forming on his face, “but the cooking made me very hungry, so let’s eat.” The brunette let out a laugh after hearing what his boyfriend said, lightly shook his head at the proud grin on the other's face, and started eating.

He wanted to marry that man.

-

Sapnap was worried, very worried. They were supposed to go on a date with their boyfriend today, but he wasn’t here yet. Sapnap had been waiting for ten minutes already, which isn’t a lot for most people, but it was for George. The brunette was never late. Never.

Sapnap was nervously playing with his hands until he heard footsteps from behind him. They immediately turned their head around and sprung up, ready to see their boyfriend and jump into his arms. But to his surprise, it wasn’t George who came from behind the shadows of a tree, it was somebody else, someone Sapnap didn’t recognize. Or at least not right away.

“Who are you?”, Sapnap asked the mysterious man confused, while taking the other up in him. He looked like he also worked at the castle, but then in a completely different function than their boyfriend did. He had an axe and a shield with him and he wore shiny purple-like armor. He also had a white mask that was covering his face, with a black smile on it, which creepily stared back at Sapnap. This man was definitely a soldier.

“I am a soldier from the castle,” yep, he was right, “I’ve come here to deliver a message from pr- eh, George, from George.” Sapnap was too excited to hear the mistake in the other's words, their boyfriend wasn’t dead! The man saw how excited the ravenette became and an unseen smile crept upon his face. The soldier zoned out for a minute, while staring at the younger man, but he was brought back to his thoughts when he saw the expecting face of the other. He quickly reached into his pockets to give the shorter the letter he’d brought for him. Sapnap immediately took the letter out of his hands, sat down, and started reading it. Their brows furrowed a bit and a slight pout became visible on their face. When Sapnap was done with reading the letter, he silently gave it back to the blonde, while sadly looking at the ground. The older got worried and decided to sit next to Sapnap.

“Is everything okay?”, he asked the other softly. The ravenette jumped up a little bit, not realizing the soldier had sat down next to him.

“Yeah, nothing to worry about. I’m just kind of sad he can’t make it,” Sapnap said after they had picked up their thoughts again and calmed down, “I had a lot of fun activities planned for today.” Sapnap's pout only became more visible on his face, which made the other's heart ache.

“Could I maybe do some of the activities with you?”, he asked the other without thinking too much about it. When he saw how confused the ravenette looked, he realized how weird his request had sounded. “I mean, we don’t know each other, but we both know George, don’t we? Maybe we could just do some activities together and get to know each other more, I think George would like for his friends to also become friends, right?”, the blond stammered embarrassed, trying to explain what he’d meant with his previous statement.

“Don’t worry, I got what you meant,” the soldier's face immediately relaxed, “and yeah, sure. I also think George would appreciate that!”, Sapnap clapped his hands and smiled softly at the masked man, before taking his hand in their own, standing up and also pulling the other up with them. Their faces were now very close to each other and Sapnap immediately took a step back and laughed a bit awkwardly.

“Wait, I just realized I never got your name.” The soldier asked, trying to change the topic so the other wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable.

“It’s Sapnap.”

“Nice to meet you Sapnap, I’m Dream.”

Dream. Why did that name sound familiar?

Chapter Text

George sat nervously in his chair, waiting for his parents to say something. The silence and the stern looks from his parents were killing him. The brunette's mind also constantly slipped towards Sapnap, he hoped they were doing okay. After some servants had told him he was expected to attend a meeting with their parents, he’d sent his most loyal soldier Dream – who was also his best friend - to Sapnap, to bring him a letter. But Dream wasn’t back yet, which made George worry.

George came back to reality when the king, his father, slammed his hands on the table. The prince looked at his father concerned, but that soon turned into fear. His father looked mad.

Really mad.

-

“How have you never done this?”, Sapnap playfully laughed at the blonde, who tried to keep his balance while standing on a very slippery stone. The moment the soldier got his balance back, he crossed his arms and looked away, trying to seem mad.

“Come on Dream, there are only two jumps left!”, Sapnap encouraged him. Dream shook his head but followed what the other said anyway, as he jumped towards the next stone. He looked into the younger man’s eyes, silently asking if that was an okay jump. Sapnap smiled proudly at him which made the tallest relax again.

“How can someone find this fun to do, I hate this.” Dream pouted while getting ready for the next jump.

“We both know that isn’t true Dream,” Sapnap said, while he helped the soldier by pulling him next to himself, so he was on the safe spot at the edge of the water. Dream just laughed and rolled his eyes, giving in.

“Alright, alright, I indeed loved doing that, it was fun,” Sapnap did a little victory dance, “and what did you further plan to do?”, Dream asked them, excited to do more fun stuff like this. The ravenette had to think about that question for a bit. Not because he forgot, but because he thought it might be awkward for them to do.

“Well, I had planned a romantic picnic by the lake”, they explained eventually, while motioning their hand towards a place a bit further away from them. Dream's eyes followed their hand and his eyes lit up when he saw the place, “but that might be weird to do.”

“Who cares, let’s go!”, Dream said, jumping up and down excitedly while shaking his hands a little bit. Only a few seconds later he realized that the ravenette might not want to do the picnic as bad as he did, and his voice turned serious. “But only as long as you want to, of course.” Sapnap giggled at that, took Dream's hand in his own, and started running towards the picnic blanket. Dream smiled from behind his mask at the younger man.

Sapnap was cute.

-

Uncontrollable tears were streaming down George's face when he opened his bedroom door, the meeting with his parents didn’t go well in the slightest. They’d found out he had a secret relationship with a man, and they were not happy about that. They withdrew the compromise they’d made with him a few days prior, and they were now forcing him to marry a girl they chose, so he could ‘forget’ about his boyfriend.

His parents were stupid. There was no way he could forget Sapnap. He could never forget how their smile made his heart warm up, how their touch set his skin on fire, how their voice could calm him down any second of the day, no matter the words that they spoke. Even if the prince was forced to marry a random princess, he was incredibly sure that he would never stop loving the ravenette, let alone forget about him.

George let out a deep sigh as he let himself fall backward onto his bed. He rubbed his hands across his face and let himself think for a bit. He wasn’t allowed to go outside anymore, which meant that he couldn’t see Sapnap. Luckily, Dream could bring his boyfriend messages from him, but he didn’t want the ravenette to find out through a letter. He groaned out of frustration as he flipped himself over on his stomach. He knew he should’ve told his boyfriend sooner, but he was just too scared. Too scared he was going to leave him or think differently of him. And now he didn’t know what to do anymore.

-

Dream smiled softly when Sapnap finished the last piece of bread they had with a smile. All the food was gone now and it was getting later and later. They had already seen the sunset -for as far as that was possible from in between the trees - and now they were waiting for it to get dark enough to see the stars.

“I think I see them!”, Sapnap shouted excitedly, while pointing his finger up in the air. Dream now also looked up and let out a soft gasp at the beautiful sky above them. He let himself lay down and motioned at Sapnap to do the same.

They were now both lying down on the picnic blanket, looking at the sky and stargazing together. The cool wind was softly blowing around them and it was gently letting leaves fall out of the trees surrounding them, one of the leaves even landed right on top of them. Sapnap giggled while picking the leaf up and letting the wind take it with a gust, before pointing at the sky again, telling Dream about their favorite stars.

And Dream just listened. He listened to Sapnap talk, he listened to how his voice got slightly higher when he was happy, he listened to his excited voice when he talked about his favorite stars and he listened to him talking about how much he’d enjoyed spending this day with the other. Dream smiled, agreed with them, and then went back to being silent and listening. The blond actually loved this. Finally, for once in his life, nothing was expected of him. Nobody needed him for anything, nobody wanted him to do anything. He could just relax and let himself go. He felt safe here.

-

George turned himself over, for what felt to him like the hundredth time already. He wasn’t able to rest, there was just so much on his mind to think about. He was trying to find a solution to all his problems, but he hadn’t been able to find a single one so far.

His thoughts got interrupted when he heard a familiar knock pattern on his door, five soft knocks, two harder ones, and then one soft one again. George pulled himself out of his bed and opened the door, being greeted by the smiley mask of his favorite soldier Dream. The brunette tiredly let him in and sat down on his bed again. Dream took off his mask while walking into the room and George couldn’t help but notice how happy he looked. The older man raised one of his eyebrows when the tallest made eye contact with him, silently asking what had happened that day that made him so happy. The blonde looked a bit confused at first, but soon got what the prince meant.

“I just had a really fun day.” Dream said while sitting down on one of the chairs, a few feet away from the prince’s bed.

“I thought you were going to deliver my message to Sapnap and then come back, where have you been? I was starting to get worried.” The soldier couldn’t help but smile softly at George's words, the other cared about him.

“Me and Sapnap have been hanging out,” the older man looked very confused, “we’re both your friends, so we wanted to get to know each other better! And besides that, Sapnap had already planned a lot of activities you two could do together, so it would just be sad to let him do them all on his own.” George nodded in understanding at the other's words but was conflicted with his own emotions at the same time. He was happy that the two spent time together and got along with each other, but he still couldn’t help but feel sad that his boyfriend had prepared a lot of things for the two of them to do, just for the brunette to not show up.

“Did they tell you that me and them were friends?”, the brunette asked the blonde with curiosity, mainly to get his own thoughts to focus on something else.

“Uhm, no, I just kind of assumed that...” Dream said while furrowing his brows, now feeling doubtful of himself.

“Oh okay. Because we’re not friends," now it was Dream's turn to be very confused, “he’s my boyfriend.”

Oh.

Oh.

Oh shit.

Chapter 3: They tell

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“I have to tell them, I just don’t know how!”, George yelled from frustration while he was walking in circles inside of his own room, with his best friend – who was actually also his only friend, if you didn’t count his boyfriend - next to him. His emotions had been all over the place, one moment he was trying to hold back his tears over the forced marriage, the other moment he was lovesick thinking about his boyfriend and now he was irritated and angry at himself for not telling the ravenette about his royal life sooner.

“George, just sit down for a moment please,” the blond said to the prince while lightly pulling his arm, desperately trying to make him sit. “You have to calm down, you can’t think straight like this.” The brunette rolled his eyes at Dream's words but sat down anyway. He let his head fall onto the taller one’s shoulder, it was clear to the blond that the other was very tired. Dream just put one of his arms around the other and pulled him a little closer to him, in a way to comfort him.

“I hate this, why does my life have to be like this?”, George muttered tiredly, while looking at his hands, trying not to burst down in tears again. The blonde just shrugged a bit and planted a light kiss on the other's hair, trying to soothe him and tell him it was okay. The older now also put his arms around the other and cuddled him, which was something he didn’t do often. The prince wasn’t really the biggest fan of physical contact, but now, with tears falling from his eyes, he didn’t really care anymore. Dream held the other tighter to his chest, wanting to wipe all those tears away and see the prince smile again. He didn’t even care what it took anymore. As long as George was happy, he was too.

-

Sapnap sat on a stone wall close to his house while swinging his legs back and forth. They hadn’t seen their boyfriend in a week, and it was killing them inside. A week wasn’t supposed to feel this long, so why did it? Usually, the days would flow past Sapnap until George was here once more. But now that he didn’t know when he would see the brunette again, the days started to feel longer than ever.

The ravenette looked around themselves again. This was the place they first met George, this is where it all started. Sapnap chuckled to himself, remembering how awkward their first interaction had been. He’d just been picking some flowers and the moment he started to stand up, the brunette had accidently bumped into him. George had started apologizing immediately, but Sapnap just shushed him and gave him the flowers. From that day on forward, the ravenette went to this place every day, hoping to see the other there again. When they had almost given up on seeing the mysterious stranger, they saw the brunette running towards them. Both of them started to smile widely when they saw each other, and that was the moment they fell in love.

A small smile became visible on Sapnap's lips when he thought about their first interaction with their boyfriend. It was a memory they would keep engraved in their heart forever. He shook his head to get out of these thoughts, put his arms next to him, and pushed himself off the stone wall. They made a deal with themselves; if the soldier didn’t come tomorrow to bring them a letter from George, they would go to the castle and talk to the brunette themselves.

-

Dream didn’t come the next day, so there Sapnap was, slightly shaking from nervousness when he walked towards one of the back entrances of the castle. They were lucky that one of their fathers used to be a secret spy and that he’d taught him some of his tricks because that made sneaking into the castle a lot easier for him.

The ravenette straightened his back before they softly knocked on one of the back doors of the castle. An old, cheerful lady opened the door and smiled sweetly at him, while she was trying to adjust her glasses to have a better look at the man in front of her.

“You must be the new servant in training! Come on in, I can show you what you’ll have to do!”, the lady opened the door with a smile.

That was surprisingly easy.

-

“What do you mean a personal servant, why would I need one?”, George groaned frustrated when the blond finished explaining the wish of the brunette’s parents. Dream just shrugged a bit at the question of the older man.

“Maybe the king and queen wanted you to get used to having one? You’re the future king, and as king, you are required to have a personal servant, aren’t you?”, The taller one answered after thinking about it for a bit. The prince just pouted and let his head fall onto the desk he had been sitting at. George's head didn’t lie down for a long time, because he was startled by the noise of someone knocking on his door. After he took a deep breath, he slowly pushed his chair backward, stood up, and went to open the door.

“Uhm, hello your majesty, I’ve been assigned to be your personal serva-,” the man stopped mid-sentence when he looked George in the eyes. The brunette could only look back at them in utter surprise, what was the love of his life doing here in his castle, why was he talking about being a personal servant, and why was this going to be the way the ravenette found out about his royal life? Without saying anything, he let the younger in and swiftly closed the door behind them. George spun around to look at his boyfriend and took a deep breath before he started talking.

“Just go and take a seat, I’ll explain everything.” The still-shocked man sat down on the prince’s bed without asking any questions. He did look around and made eye contact with the soldier for a bit – who also looked very surprised - but then immediately averted his head down to the floor.

“Okay, so where do I start-,” George said a bit nervously, while constantly trying to look everywhere except for at Sapnap. “I am indeed the mysterious prince and not his servant,” George finally said, now actually making eye contact with the ravenette, “I’m so sorry for hiding this from you, I just wanted to live a normal life, without having people bow down for me everywhere I go and shit like that! And I could have that with you. I didn’t feel the pressure of having to take all responsibility for everything, I could just... live.”

The youngest slowly stood up and walked towards George, he could see that the other had tears forming in his eyes. They stood in front of each other for a few seconds - even though it felt like hours to them - before Sapnap wrapped both of their arms around their boyfriend and buried their head in the crook of his neck to try and comfort him.

“It’s alright George. I’m not mad at you, I understand.” Those were all the words George needed to hear to actually burst into tears, not because he was sad, but because he was so relieved. He’d finally told his boyfriend, and he wasn’t even mad at him! He loved the younger man so much, he’d give up everything for them. The brunette now also wrapped his arms around the other and pulled him closer to himself, he wanted to hold him in his arms forever, and never let go.

George lifted his head up a bit to see Dream staring at them. He seemed happy for them, but it was clear to see that he was also a bit uncomfortable, because he didn’t really know what to do. George motioned for him to come and join the hug, to which the blonde lightly chuckled at in response. This made Sapnap turn around and when they understood what was going on, they made little grabby hands toward Dream. The tallest chuckled again but actually stood up this time to join the hug.

“I really can’t believe you two.”

Notes:

I hope every single one of you is going to have a great day today <3

Chapter 4: They admit

Notes:

I have a lot of test coming up in the next two weeks, so the new updates have to wait a bit, I'm sorry!

Chapter Text

All three of them now sat in a circle on the floor of George's room, and Sapnap couldn’t stop looking at Dream. The blond never had his mask on in front of George, so when the youngest unexpectedly came in as the new servant, the blond was too shocked to put it back on. Dream looked over at the prince and signaled with his eyes that the brunette had to do something about the staring of his boyfriend. George just laughed at him and shook his head.

“I don’t blame Sapnap for looking at you, I would do that too if I saw you for the first time. You’re really handsome, you know.” The older responded, still laughing. Dream knew the other had probably said it as a joke, but still, he couldn’t help that his heart started beating faster and the temperature of his cheekbones started to rise. He rolled his eyes after that, quickly averted his eyes to the floor, and laughed a bit. He was trying to cover up how the prince’s words had made him feel.

After a few seconds of silence, the taller one raised his head up to look at Sapnap again. The man was still looking at him intensely like he was trying to figure something out. Dream tilted his head a little bit in a questioning manner, hoping that the ravenette would pick up on that. Luckily for the blond, Sapnap did, but he did have to blink a few times before he fully came back to reality.

“You just- look like someone I know.” They said a bit shyly, still having a debate going on inside their head if they should tell Dream about what they knew. It would be very embarrassing for them if they were wrong. The blonde raised a brow at the words that came out of Sapnap's mouth.

“Oh, what’s their name?”, he asked the other, trying to see if it was someone related to him.

“Uhm, Dream.”

“Yeah?”, the blonde answered immediately, without thinking too much about it.

“No, as in; he’s also called Dream,” Sapnap said a bit unsure of himself. When they looked up from their fidgeting hands, they could see how puzzled the taller looked.

“Well, you also remind me of someone, but she’s a girl and she has no siblings.” Dream said in a slightly softer tone, trying to understand what was going on here. Sapnap's jaw tensed a bit after the blonde spoke, and – luckily for the ravenette - George immediately noticed this. After a few seconds of quick thinking on the brunette’s side, he understood what was going on. He shuffled a bit closer to his boyfriend until they looked back and made eye contact with him. George then nodded at him, in a way to say that he could trust Dream and that it was fine to tell him. Sapnap looked a bit scared but took a deep breath and told the other anyway.

“I’m transgender.” He said very quickly, while shutting his eyes closed, afraid of the other's reaction. Dream's eyes just widened after he heard them say that and a few seconds later, a smile spread across his lips. He opened his mouth to talk, but no words came out, so he just threw himself at the other and hugged him.

“Thank you for telling me Sap, I really appreciate it!”, the blond finally managed to say. Sapnap chuckled softly at him and hugged him back, relieved the other's reaction was positive.

“I’m sorry for leaving you when we were kids, I was scared you wouldn’t accept me.” The ravenette muttered softly, but loud enough for both men to hear. Dream just pulled them even closer and George also started hugging them.

“I would always accept you for who you are Sapnap, please never forget that.” Dream whispered into his ears with a slight voice crack mid-sentence because of all the emotions he felt, but he honestly couldn’t care less about that right now. The youngest sniffled a bit but then started giggling. The other two couldn’t help but smile at hearing his happy giggle, and soon all of them started laughing. They laughed their emotions off, they laughed to relieve their stress, and most importantly; they laughed because they had each other.

-

“How did you even come up with the name Sapnap?”, the three of them had moved positions, Dream was now sitting on one of George's expensive chairs and the prince and his lover were sitting together on George's bed, cuddling each other. After Dream asked that question, Sapnap started blushing lightly and they removed both of their hands to put them in front of their face, which the brunette pouted a bit at.

“I don’t want to tell you, it’s embarrassing,” Sapnap whined jokingly while still covering his face up, now slowly rocking back and forth in his boyfriend’s arms. George shook him a bit, trying to get him to talk. The ravenette only whined harder, until he finally gave in.

“Alright, alright you idiots, I’ll tell you.” Dream and George smirked at each other in victory, and Sapnap just rolled his eyes and took a deep breath.

“Do you remember the nickname you used to call me?”, Sapnap said while he looked at Dream and got a bit shy again.

“Do you mean Pandas?”, Dream asked in curiosity. The ravenette just nodded his head at the question.

“Well, I just turned it around and replaced the d with a p.” Dream's face scrunched up a bit while he was trying to spell out Pandas in his head, but then backward. When he finally got it, his eyes widened and he let out an excited shriek, which scared the other men a bit.

“Oh my gosh! Sapnap, that’s so cute!”, Dream shook his upper arms and his legs in excitement, trying not to stand up and crush the younger man again with a hug. George just chuckled at this and placed a soft kiss on Sapnap's cheek.

“They’re indeed very, very cute.” Sapnap shook his head and rolled his eyes in disappointment from the cringe compliment, but the smile on his face gave his happiness away.

“Both of you are so stupid.” The ravenette said with a laugh while returning his hands around George's waist to cuddle closer to his boyfriend. They then made eye contact with Dream and smiled softly at him. The blond gave him a smile back before he started to stand up.

“I have to go to training now, I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone.” The prince chuckled at the soldier’s words and quickly kissed his boyfriend on the lips, while a smile formed on his face from watching the ravenette.

“See, that’s why I’m going. I will talk to you guys soon!”, the tallest said while he securely closed the door behind him and locked it, so other servants couldn’t disturb the couple. He sighed to himself as he walked away, shaking his head, trying to get rid of his thoughts. But he couldn’t, they were still there.

He wanted to be with them. So, so badly.

Chapter 5: They realise

Notes:

I made some time in between learning for my tests and exams to write this, so I hope y'all enjoy! I don't know when the next chapter will be out, but I think it'll take around one week or something like that. I'm done with my tests after that though, so expect more updates then :)

Chapter Text

Once again, the three men were sitting together, only this time they weren’t in the castle anymore. Dream had taken them to a hidden part of the garden, where nobody would find them. At least, that’s what they believed.

Dream and Sapnap were sitting together on the soft grass, while Sapnap was trying to teach Dream how to make a flower crown out of daisies. When Dream did something wrong, Sapnap would roll his eyes playfully, say something along the lines of ‘you’re such an idiot’, and then laugh. The soldier would always laugh with them, and sometimes George would also chuckle.

Talking about the brunette, he wasn’t on the grass with the other two. He was standing somewhere in the shadows; the sun had been too hot for him. The prince was fidgeting with the roses a bit, while he tried to keep his anxiety down. Almost all the secrets they had for each other – at least to George's knowledge – weren’t secret anymore, except for one.

“George!”, he quickly turned his head around when he heard his lovely boyfriend shout at him.

“What is it, love?”, the brunette answered after he graciously spun around and started walking towards the two. Sapnap jumped up excitedly with a flower crown in their hands, which made George smile. Dream also stood up, although a bit slower than the ravenette, and chuckled at the excitement of the younger man.

“We finished the flower crowns!”, Sapnap said with a smile, as if it hadn’t been obvious already.

“Mine is very, uhm,” Dream started saying while looking down at his self-made flower crown and turning it around a few times to get a better look at it, “bad.” He eventually sighed. Sapnap put his hand on the blonde’s shoulder upon hearing this.

“You should’ve listened to me better.” The youngest said, sticking his chin out proudly while trying to ignore the glare they got from Dream.

“Or you should learn how to become a better teacher.” The tallest bit playfully back as he removed the other's hand from his shoulder. Sapnap brought this same hand to his chest and let out a fake gasp, pretending as if the words offended him. The two men now started laughing at the stupidity of each other and soon the prince joined in.

“But in al honestly,” George said when they had calmed down from the laughing, “I don’t think you did a bad job on the flower crown.” Dream still looked a bit unsure, but gave the other a smile anyway. The ravenette was about to make another stupid comment, but he quickly shut himself up when he saw how much the compliment actually meant to the soldier.

“Thank you, George.” The blonde mumbled quietly, while he lifted the flower crown up to his eyes, looking at it one more time before deciding to put it on the brunette’s head. The oldest eyes widened a bit, he let out a soft gasp at this action and he made eye contact with the blond. He then gave the other an awkward but genuine smile, which Dream returned.

“Okay, okay, enough with the lovey-dovey stuff, you two are making me feel like I’m the single one here!”, Sapnap said with a huff as he playfully and softly pushed the other two away from each other and went to hug George, who immediately returned it.

“We weren’t even doing anything ‘lovey dovey’.” The tallest tried to argue with Sapnap. But when they only replied by rolling their eyes, Dream turned his back towards the two, acting like he was mad.

“Don’t deny it, Dream,” the prince said, “if Sapnap wouldn’t have pulled us apart, we totally would’ve kissed.”

The blond was lucky that his back was turned towards the other two, because even though what the brunette said was obviously sarcasm – the snicker of Sapnap confirming that even more – Dream couldn’t stop the blush that spread across his face after hearing those words.

-

George shifted uncomfortably in his seat, the widened eyes from the other two feeling like they were piercing through his soul. His hands were nervously tapping on his thighs as he tried to avoid making eye contact with either of them. He’d just told them his last secret and it was no exaggeration to say that the two men were absolutely shocked.

There were a few minutes of painful silence between them, until Dream coughed a bit, in order to warm up his voice before talking. Both George’s and Sapnap’s heads shot up towards Dream and they looked very relieved, glad that the blonde broke the awkward silence between them.

“That’s... that’s not good.” The soldier said slowly while looking at the brunette with concern. Sapnap rolled his eyes at Dream's words.

“Yeah no shit, we all figured that out already,” the ravenette said a bit irritated, “I thought you were going to tell us a solution for the problem, not the most obvious thing to ever exist!”

“Sapnap. Don’t.” The brunette said slowly as he tried to make eye contact with his boyfriend. The youngest furrowed their brows at the tone George was saying it in and looked down sadly while muttering a soft sorry towards Dream. They tend to get annoyed easily when they’re sad or scared.

“It’s okay Pandas, don’t worry about it.” Dream reassured Sapnap when he saw his facial expression. George turned his head towards the blonde again and now looked at him in an intense and concerned way, which made the blond sigh.

“George, really, it’s okay. This news is harder for them than for me. You have to marry a princess you’ve never met, Sapnap will lose their boyfriend, and I... I won’t even lose you.” The prince shook his head. He knew that the news hurt the blond more than he was willing to admit. He could hear it from the way his voice started trembling at the end of his sentence, he could see it from the tears that were forming in the soldier’s eyes as he tried to blink them away, and he could feel the sadness radiating from the tallest when he stood up, walked out of the door and slammed it shut.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry George.” The brunette averted his eyes from the closed door when he heard his boyfriend whispering apologies to him. His heart broke even more when he saw the ravenette, so he pulled them in for a hug. Sapnap didn’t waste a second, before wrapping his arms around the oldest, burying his head into the other's stomach, and letting his tears fall freely.

“It’s not your fault.” The prince said softly while lifting one of his hands to put it in the hair of the other, hoping it would help them calm down. The ravenette started to cry harder, but they didn’t let go of the hug. After a while, George heard the sobs from his boyfriend turn into soft snores, which made him smile to himself. He gave the other a small kiss on his head, took a deep breath, and leaned against the back of the bed, finally letting his body relax.

He didn’t want to marry some random princess his parents chose for him, he wanted to choose who he could marry.

He wanted to marry Sapnap. Maybe even Dream.

Or both.

Wait, what-?

Chapter Text

George had never felt this lost in his entire life. His parents were forcing him to marry some random princess – even though he already had a boyfriend and they knew that – and he just discovered that he might also have feelings for his best friend! Was that even possible, to love two people at once?

He had been trying to keep his mind from dealing with these thoughts. He’d trained a bit longer than he normally would, he’d walked around the castle gardens while listening to loud music and he’d even spent more time at the dinner table with his parents, even though he really, really didn’t want to.

It was getting late now, so George couldn’t really go out of his room anymore. Because of that, it became a lot harder for the prince to find a distraction. He tried to read, but that didn’t work, the book wasn’t interesting enough to keep him focused on it. Instead, his thoughts kept slipping toward his possible newfound feelings for Dream.

The brunette sighed a bit irritated as he closed the book and put it on his nightstand. He kept looking at it for a bit, before he gave up, laid backward on the bed, and turned his head around to face to the other side. He knew he couldn’t escape his thoughts forever and he knew that he had to deal with the thoughts as soon as possible, preferably now.

He just didn’t want to deal with the thoughts right now. The past weeks had been so much for him already, and he knew that it would be too much if he also pushed himself to think about all of this right now. He didn’t want to deal with this. At least not now. He really, really didn’t want to. He couldn’t even do it, he knew he couldn’t.

But he had to do it now. He’d been avoiding doing it all day, telling himself that he would deal with it tonight. And it was tonight. So he had to deal with his thoughts. Now. Just deal with his thoughts. Nothing more, nothing less. It seemed like such a simple task. Just do it. It isn’t that hard. Don’t overreact. Just do it.

George's new thoughts were roaming around in his head, filling up the entire space, leaving no room for anything else. His eyes started to water slightly, which only made the thoughts worse. Don’t be such an attention-seeker. It’s nothing. Everyone could do this easily. But you can’t. Just deal with the thoughts. It’s a simple task!

The prince put his hands on his ears, desperately trying to stop these new thoughts from coming in, even though he knew it wouldn’t help. Tears were now actually streaming down his face, with no intention to stop. He was hyperventilating, his hands started to tingle and his head kept spinning around. George curled up into a ball, and started rocking himself back and forwards as best as he could to try and comfort himself.

How can you not do this? You’re such a failure. You can’t even handle such a simple task. How do you even expect to become king like this? Nobody would want a king like you. You can’t ever do anything right. Nobody wants you. Everyone hates you. Sapnap and Dream hate you. They just pretend not to. They just feel sorry for you. They would never love you. You’re stupid to think that. You’re alone.

Stupid.

Failure.

Useless.

Alone.

-

Dream and Sapnap were standing outside the brunette's room. They both hadn’t seen him the whole day, so they wanted to check up on him and see how everything was going.

The tallest softly knocked their special knock pattern on the wooden door and did a step backwards, in case George would immediately open the door. When he didn’t hear an answer, he knocked the pattern again; this time a bit louder. After not receiving an answer yet again, the two shared a look of confusion and worry.

“Where could he be?”, Sapnap asked puzzled while looking around, trying to think of places around or in the castle that the brunette might be at this time. The blonde shrugged and also started to look around and think.

“I don’t think there’s anywhere else he’s allowed to be at this time,” Dream eventually concluded, “so I really have no idea.” Sapnap shot him a confused glance at the allowed part but decided to not ask anything about that now. That wasn’t what their focus should be on, at least not right now.

Silence fell over the two as they both started to think, that was until they heard faint sobbing. Their eyes widened as they looked at each other in alarm. Was that sound really coming from the prince’s room?

The youngest turned their head and leaned a bit closer to the door, trying to see if the sounds they heard were really coming from there. When he heard the noises again – this time a bit clearer – he automatically took the other's hand and squeezed it. The blond seemed to know what they meant by that and gave the ravenette a small, reassuring squeeze back. He didn’t let go of the other's hand after that.

“What do we do?”, the ravenette whispered softly to the soldier, ignoring how bad his voice cracked when he said that. Dream bit his lip and lifted up his chin a bit, trying to think of a way that they could enter the brunette's room, without the other actually opening the door for them. After some thinking, he remembered the way he used to do it.

“You’re officially George's personal servant,” Dream said, pausing a bit in between his sentences to see if the other confirmed the first part – which they did – “then you should have access to the key to his room! I always used to steal the keys from servants when I was younger.” The blonde chuckled a bit as he reminded himself of the old times, before composing himself. This was a serious matter, there was no time to laugh about his memories. Dream let himself relax again when he saw Sapnap beaming with excitement over the fact that they could get in so easily.

“Of course, why didn’t I think of that? That’s a much better solution than climbing up his window or breaking down his door.” The youngest said, making fun of his own ideas. Both Dream and Sapnap chuckled at this, and the ravenette reached out to their pocket to take one of the keys that could open the door.

Both of them immediately turned serious again when they opened the door and were reminded of the situation. George was lying curled up in his bed, violently sobbing and shaking. Dream and Sapnap's eyes met again, this time they shared a very worried look. Both of them knew that the prince was having a panic attack. The men wanted to immediately run up to the oldest, hold him, and tell him it’d be alright, but they knew that that wasn’t the right approach and that it would only make the situation worse.

So instead, the two slowly made their way toward the other, making sure their footsteps weren’t too loud, but loud enough for the brunette to hear and know that there were people in his room. When they stood in front of George, they didn’t immediately do anything, knowing that unexpected hugs and touches might scare him. After a few seconds, Dream slowly put one of his hands on George's shoulder. The prince’s body shook a bit more when he felt the hand, but it eventually helped him calm down a bit.

In that same time, Sapnap had made his way around the bed and slowly sat on the other side, waiting a bit to let George get used to the feeling of someone behind him. Dream nodded to the youngest after some time, telling them it was okay. Sapnap carefully put their arms around the brunette to eventually – when George was also used to this – hug him.

George's shaking had gotten a lot less by now, which caused a smile to form on the blonde’s lips. The soldier leaned down a little bit to whisper calming things into the other's ear. Just like Sapnap had done, the tallest slowly lowered himself down on the bed, until eventually, he was lying down next to the other two. He put his hand – that had been on George’s shoulder a few minutes prior – in the prince’s hair and instead of talking, started softly humming George's favorite song.

Dream made eye contact with the ravenette, who was still hugging the prince, and saw how they smiled at him, noticing what song he was humming. Dream smiled back and closed his eyes, focusing on the song. After a few minutes, the room became almost silent. The only things you could hear were the humming of the soldier and the – now mostly calmed down – shaky breaths from the brunette.

Dream stopped his humming to give the prince a short kiss on his forehead, before he pushed himself farther away from the couple, planning on leaving the other two be. But before he could stand up, he felt a hand tugging at his arm, which made the soldier look back in curiosity. George had his eyes slightly opened and looked at the blonde while tugging at the other's arm a bit harder.

“Stay, please.”

And who was Dream to say no to that?

Notes:

Summary: George had a panic attack because he felt like he should have a solution to all the things that were happening. Luckily, Dream and Sapnap found him and helped him calm down. They all cuddled and fell asleep together.

Chapter 7: They stare

Chapter Text

Sapnap slowly opened their eyes as they tried to remember where they were. It only took him a few seconds to see the sleeping man in his arms, which made him become aware that he was in George's room. Luckily, his boyfriend had stopped shaking now, and the only sound escaping his mouth were soft, rhythmical breaths. The youngest smiled and planted a soft kiss in between the other's shoulder and neck, where the head of the ravenette previously had been resting. They carefully unwrapped their arms from George's waist and got up out of bed, while trying to not wake the other up in their process. It was only when they looked back at their boyfriend, that they realized that Dream was also still there.

The smile from before made its way back onto Sapnap's lips, as they looked at the prince and the soldier sleeping together, looking so peaceful and content in each other’s arms. He knew that most people would probably get jealous if they saw their partner cuddling with someone else, but that wasn’t the case for Sapnap. Seeing this made him very happy, even. But only if George was cuddling with Dream though, the youngest wouldn’t like it if it was another person. That was probably because they were best friends, he reasoned. And besides; Sapnap had also cuddled with the blonde multiple times before.

The still-smiling ravenette turned around and started to walk toward one of the windows in the room. They opened the curtains a bit, only to realize that it was still very dark outside. He then turned his head to look at the beautifully decorated clock, and saw that it was indeed very early; somewhere around 4 a.m. Sapnap sighed a bit and looked ponderingly between the bed and the balcony doors. They softly shook their head to themselves, before they opened the doors that led to the balcony.

The cold air immediately surrounded them as soon as they stepped outside, but they didn’t pay any mind to that. They walked a bit further until they were at the edge and then they just looked in front of themselves; taking in the beautiful landscape that was portrayed in front of their eyes. He looked at the kingdom; how most of the lights of the houses were out, but how you could still see some light from a few places. He looked at the forest and how it was too densely wooded to see anything from up here, but how he could still identify every single place, as seen as he knew the forest like the back of his hand. He looked at how the big lake flowed beautifully through the whole kingdom to provide the villagers with fresh water, and at all the bridges that were built to be able to cross the lake. There was almost too much to look at.

Sapnap was brought back to reality, when they heard the balcony door open and also close softly a few minutes after. They kept their gaze on the landscape though, not alarmed by the new person. He could identify from the pattern of the footsteps – that hadn’t changed one bit in all those years – that it was his best friend Dream who was joining him on the balcony.

“I didn’t wake you up, did I?”, Sapnap asked with a light breath, still looking at the same place. The blond softly chuckled at the question and let his arms – just like the youngest had already done – rest on the decorated railing.

“No you didn’t, don’t worry.” Dream answered them, in the same gentle tone the other had spoken, which the ravenette just responded to with a soft hum. Silence fell over the two childhood friends, but it was nowhere near awkward. Both of them were lost in their own thoughts, looking at all the beauty around them and just enjoying the presence of each other.

This moment reminded Dream of the first time they met. Well, at least the first time they met after not seeing each other for a few years. The first time they met as Dream and Sapnap. It was the moment at which the youngest had taken him to do all sorts of activities in the woods – that they had actually planned for their boyfriend and themselves – which ended with the two of them stargazing. Sapnap had enthusiastically told him about all of his favorite stars, and – as far as the blonde could see from the corner of his eyes – he seemed to be looking at the same ones right now.

Dream let his eyes also focus on the stars now, still not remembering the names of all of them. But he could point out a few and identify them, those ones were Sapnap's all-time favorites. He knew that because the other had gotten extra cheerful and excited when they started talking about those stars. That’s also the reason why the blonde remembered them.

Over the time that they were standing there, the two had slowly but surely intertwined their pinkies together. They didn’t know which one of them did or initiated doing this, but they both couldn’t care less. The only thing that mattered at that moment was them.

Both of them. Together.

They stayed like that for some time, until Dream decided that he should probably try to get some more sleep. It was getting close to becoming morning, and he also didn’t want George to wake up alone; especially not after what happened last night. So he carefully let go of Sapnap's pinky, pushed himself up a bit, and shifted his weight, so it was being supported by his legs again.

The youngest slowly unlocked his eyes from the mesmerizing nature to turn his head towards the taller man. This was the first time that night that the ravenette had actually looked at the other. They had a questioning look in their eyes, confused as to why the other was leaving.

“I’m going back to bed.” The blonde said softly, grabbing the other's hand once more to give it a reassuring squeeze. The youngest nodded and let his gaze drift back to where it had been before, letting the other know that he was not planning on going with him. They heard the tallest do something behind them, but they weren’t listening close enough to make out what exactly that was, assuming the tallest was just leaving. He felt the blond tap on his shoulder, so he turned around to face him, a bit confused as to what he wanted.

When they turned around, they saw – to no surprise – Dream standing there. He had a soft, caring smile on his face and he was holding one of his hands out to the other. The ravenette let his eyes wander down to see what the blonde was holding. It was his hoodie.

“So you don’t get cold.” It was indeed very cold outside, and wearing Dream's hoodie would definitely help with keeping his body warm. But the ravenette was way too stubborn to let the other know that.

“I don’t need that, I’m good.” The ravenette said, about to turn around again. They heard a sigh behind them and before they knew it, they had Dream's hoodie in their arms. Sapnap rolled his eyes at the blonde but didn’t make any further comment about it.

“Bye, I’ll see you tomorrow Pandas.” the youngest let out a huff as they turned their back to his childhood friend again. The moment he heard the door close and was sure the blonde was back in the bed, he put the hoodie on and let himself relax again; but with a new warmth surrounding him this time. Maybe they did have it a bit cold before.

While taking in the new comforting warmth and looking back at the shining stars, Sapnap noticed that his cheeks had started heating up. The eyes of the ravenette widened a bit, as he himself was shocked by his realization.

The old, pushed-away feelings that Sapnap had for the blonde man all those years ago were coming back.

Or maybe they never left.

Fuck.

Chapter 8: They confess

Notes:

I'm sorry for my crap upload schedule, I'll try to upload more, but I sadly can't promise anything :)

Chapter Text

The prince slowly lowered himself down onto his bed, before looking the other two in the eyes. He didn’t manage to do this for a long time though, as he started feeling nervous under the other two’s concerning, but strong gazes. Of course, he was really thankful that Dream and Sapnap came into his room the other day to help him with his panic attack. They’d treated him so well, and they knew exactly what to do to help him, without making the panic attack worse. The only thing was; they now wanted to know what actually caused his panic attack.

“George, really, take all the time you need. The most important thing is just that you tell us, we really want to know the reason behind your panic attack.” Dream spoke softly to the brunette after noticing that he was starting to tense up a bit.

“It’s not like we’re going to judge you; you know we’re not like that. We just want to prevent it from ever happening again. And we can only do that if we know why it even happened in the first place.” Sapnap continued Dream’s reassuring and explaining. The oldest looked up again, to give both of them a small smile; attempting to make it as sincere looking as possible, but it still not turning out genuine and believable enough. His boyfriend didn’t mean any harm with the sentence – of course he didn’t – but it also failed at making George feel better. Because they are; they probably are going to judge him.

The prince shook his thoughts away and stared the two in their eyes for a few seconds, before wending his eyes to the ground. He felt Dream and Sapnap each take one of his hands in theirs, which made a small, this time genuine, smile form on his lips. He took a deep breath to calm himself, before starting to explain what happened.

“I was just... thinking too much. Overthinking things, you know how it is...”, he stopped his sentence because he was having an inner debate with himself, should he tell them the truth and face the consequences, or should he continue to keep it a secret from them; just for a little bit longer? Sighing, he realized that both Dream and Sapnap could see straight through his lies so it wouldn’t do any good for him to not tell the truth about the situation. And besides; he has to tell them eventually, and this was the best entryway he was probably going to get in a while.

“Overthinking is usually the way people get a panic attack yeah,” Sapnap said under his breath, more to himself than to the other two, before wending his attention back to George again, “but could you please tell us what you were thinking about, babe? Then we would be able to help you.”

“I was just...” George started, squeezing his eyes shut. You know what, he thought to himself. Fuck it. It’s now or never. “I think that I like you guys. Both of you. Romantically. As in; I also like Dream. Love. Maybe love even, I don’t really know anymore. These feelings confused me so much, and I didn’t really want to think about it, but then I had to think about it, which made me mad at myself, and then I started overthinking and panicking about not wanting to think about it.” The prince stopped himself in his rambling, took a deep breath, and opened his eyes again to look at the reaction of the two in front of him. Dream seemed to look happy, while Sapnap's face was just displaying pure shock.

“Uhm, I think I like you too actually. Well; not think. I’m very sure of it,” Dream said while squeezing George's hand, letting him know he was there for him, “and you too Sap, I think I like the both of you.” The brunette let out a shaky breath, shook his hands out of excitement, and softly giggled, happy that the other felt the same way and happy that Dream also had feelings for Sapnap, just like he himself has had for years now.

While George kept squeaking and shaking his hands in excitement and relief, the blond was just looking at him with such a fond and soft look on his face. When the brunette had calmed down, he looked over at his boyfriend. The youngest sat still in the same position as before, but now looking even more shocked and tense. George's eyes met Sapnap's and the oldest asked silently what the other thought of all of this.

“I- I think I need some fresh air.” Sapnap let go of the prince’s hand, quickly stood up and walked towards the balcony. The other two’s eyes locked and they shared a look of concern, scared that they made the ravenette feel uncomfortable. George also let go of Dream's hand, not wanting to do anything his boyfriend might not feel comfortable with anymore. He gave the blonde an apologetic smile, which the other returned with a small understanding nod.

They sat together in awkward silence for another few minutes; both in their own thoughts, before the prince decided he should check up on his boyfriend. Was Sapnap even okay with still being his boyfriend, now that they knew that the brunette also had feelings for his best friend? George didn’t know and he also didn’t want to figure that out now, his priority lies on Sapnap and if he’s feeling alright.

George quickly motioned to Dream that he should stay where he currently was, before the brunette stood up and also walked towards the balcony, where the ravenette had disappeared to, just only a bit ago.

“How are you feeling Sap?”, he asked the other carefully when he was outside, making sure he was standing a bit away from the youngest. The ravenette sighed before looking him in the eyes and giving him a small smile.

“I’m doing fine love,” George immediately calmed down a bit, the youngest was still calling him pet names, which probably meant that the other didn’t want to break up with him. “It was just a lot for me to take in all at once. I hope I didn’t scare you two though.” The prince just shrugged, not confirming nor denying his boyfriend's statement. Sapnap walked towards their boyfriend, took his hand into theirs, and pulled them into the room again, which shocked the brunette a bit, but he just laughed it off when he saw Sapnap's playful smile.

Dream instantly felt better when he saw the other two walking into the room while George was laughing, that meant that he at least didn’t ruin their relationship with his stupid confession. He might’ve ruined his and Sapnap's friendship, but he honestly cared more about the other two. Sapnap and George sat down on the same spots they’d sat before and Dream turned his attention to them, not wanting to miss anything they’d say to him.

“I’m sorry for walking away, I shouldn’t have done th-”

“Don’t be sorry Sapnap,” Dream interrupted him immediately, “you did nothing wrong, so you have nothing to apologize for. Walking away because you need some time is a totally normal human thing to do.” Sapnap’s annoyed glare turned into a small smile, before clearing his throat a bit so he could talk again.

“Well, I just wanted to clear things up. I’m not mad at any of you, I’m not sad or even any emotion that’s considered to be ‘bad’,” the blonde let out a sigh of relief, and even George –who already guessed that – did too, happy to actually hear it come from their mouth. “In fact...”, Sapnap stopped his sentence to give his words another thought.

“What do you guys think about a polyamorous relationship?”

Chapter 9: They break

Chapter Text

Happy and in love were the perfect words to describe the feeling that the three had felt these past few days. After they’d confessed their love to one another; they had decided that a polyamorous relationship – just like Sapnap had suggested – would be the best option for all of them because it would make them the happiest.

Even though being in a relationship with them had been fairly new for Dream, he adjusted and got used to it quickly, as he fit just perfectly in the already existing relationship between Sapnap and George. The tallest had never once in these few days felt actually left out – even though he did say that sometimes, but that was only so he would get more cuddles from them – and he couldn’t be happier.

It was the same for the other two actually. They’d already been very close with the soldier, so adding him to their relationship hadn’t been a weird or hard thing for them to do, or to get used to. The only real difference for them was that Dream would now actually stay the night with them instead of awkwardly leaving the room and that they could now also kiss him anytime they wanted – as long as he consented to it first, obviously.

In other words, all three of them were extremely happy with their new relationship and how things were going with them. But – of course there’s a but, even though they would love to, it can’t all be sunshine and rainbows – there was a problem. A problem that’s called Amy. Or actually, if you want to get more specific, the problem was called George’s parents.

Amy was the princess that George’s parents chose for him to marry. George had already met the princess before – at fancy parties in the past – and she wasn’t all that bad, but that didn’t take away from the fact that he was currently in a relationship already and that his parents still forced him to marry someone else. Someone he didn’t even choose himself, and someone who probably also didn’t choose to get married to him.

-

George sighed to himself after he closed the big wooden door. He’d just had a meeting with his parents about the marrying situation, and now he knew that there was definitely no way that he would be able to convince his parents to not let him marry that princess. They had made it very clear that they’d spent ‘so much time’ and ‘so much effort’ into finding the perfect bride for him, while they didn’t forget to add that being with a man, as a man; was just strictly not allowed as a prince.

He walked back to his room as quickly as he could, and when he finally arrived, he immediately shut the door closed and leaned against it. He closed his eyes as he put one of his hands in front of his mouth; not trying to hold back his tears anymore, but still wanting to be as silent as possible, so he wouldn’t worry anyone.

He felt... he didn’t even know how he felt anymore. Empty. Just empty. For the first time in a few days, he didn’t feel happy anymore. Dream and Sapnap had always made sure that he was doing okay, and that he wasn’t stressing too much about things. The thought of his two boyfriends had also always made him cheer up, but not this time. Now thinking about them left him with a stinging feeling inside his stomach. He was so in love with them, but he couldn’t be. He wasn’t allowed to. He was the prince, he was supposed to marry a princess, that’s the tradition, that’s what he had to do.

There was nothing he could do about it, the decision of his parents had been final. Sometimes, being a prince means doing things you don’t want to, his mother had told him multiple times growing up. Usually, he would silently nod his head at that and then do the thing he was asked to do. But he wasn’t able to do that right now, this was a much bigger deal.

This was about the person he would be spending the rest of his life with. This was about not being able to love who he loved, just because some rulers from the past had made that decision for him. This was about so much more than just his duties as a prince. This was about his life. This was about him.

And as if that wasn’t enough already, even more tears and muted sobs left the brunette when he realized another important fact. He had to break up with his boyfriends. He had to tell them, to their face, that their relationship wasn’t working anymore and that he had to step out of it.

Of course, he could still explain the reasoning behind it and tell them that he still loved them, but the thought of seeing their faces after he told them, was enough for George to let his whole body fall down onto the ground. He curled himself up into a ball; trying to make himself as tiny as possible and wishing he could just disappear. He wished he was never born a prince, he wished that he could marry whoever the fuck he wanted to, and he wished that he could just live a normal life; just like he had at the beginning of his and Sapnap’s relationship.

But he couldn’t, he was born a prince after all. And being a prince means that you sometimes have to do things you don’t want to.

So George lifted himself off the ground, wiped away his tears, straightened out his clothes, fixed his hair, and looked at himself in the mirror one last time, before leaving his room and going to talk to his boyfriends about the situation. Or – the now more accurate way to say it – his future ex-boyfriends.

Notes:

Not even 1 full chapter of them being boyfriends and I'm already making them break up-

Anyways, I hope everyone has an amazing day <3

Chapter 10: They wed

Notes:

This chapter is a bit shorter, I'm sorry!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Dream tried to hold back his tears as he read the letter in front of him. Sapnap was next to him with their head lying on the blonde’s chest, trying to hide away from reality. The letter –that both of them had just read – was an invitation. A wedding invitation to be exact.

The whole kingdom is invited to come and watch the wedding of the soon-to-be-king; George, and the soon-to-be-queen; Amy, was written in beautiful elegant letters at the top of the card. They didn’t even have to read it any further, that sentence on its own was already enough. George was going to marry – was forced into it, actually – and it wasn’t to Dream and Sapnap. Not even to only one of them.

Dream tightly wrapped his arms around his boyfriend; trying to hold the ravenette as close to him as possible and protecting him from the world in a sense. The prince had broken up with them a few months ago, and since that moment it’d just been the two of them. George had advised them to not stay in the castle anymore, as seen as it would be too hard and painful for all three of them. It was already hard for them that they had to break up, but if they had to see and talk to each other every day, it would just hurt them even more. So, with pain in their hearts, Dream and Sapnap left the castle to go and live in Sapnap’s house, just the two of them. Without George.

They honestly hadn’t really heard a lot from George after they left. If that was because he was trying to distance himself from them, because he was busy with all the preparations, or a mix of both, they didn’t know. But either way, they didn’t really know how George was doing, they’d only heard some information about the brunette through the villagers. This didn’t happen quite often, as seen that George had the reputation of the unknown prince. Nobody in the public had actually seen the brunette's face before, and all the things they did know about him, were very limited. So; whenever the villagers did get a little bit of information about the royal prince, the news spread like wildfire.

That’s also why the two boyfriends knew, that almost immediately after Dream had officially quit his job, there was a new personal guard assigned to George. They also knew that he was supposedly more in his room than normal, but they honestly weren’t really sure if they could trust the source they heard that information from.

They themselves had also not tried to contact George in any sort of way, because they knew that around the time of a wedding and coronation; guards would check everything that was sent to the castle to try and prevent any sort of crime. So, sadly for them; writing to the prince was not an option, or at least not any time soon.

“Do you want to go to the wedding?”, Sapnap asked in a soft and shaky tone, not moving their head from its place on Dream's chest. The blonde sighed, before thinking about the question. Did he want to go? I guess it would be nice to see George again, but on the other hand... it wouldn’t be nice at all to see George get married to some random girl he didn’t even like.

One of Dream's hands had absently moved towards Sapnap's hair to carefully play with it because it usually helped him concentrate more. The ravenette just let out a soft hum when he felt the hand in his hair and leaned even further into the other's chest if that was even possible.

“I honestly don’t think I do.” Dream responded with the same softness the other’s voice had. The younger hummed again, letting the other know that they agreed with his decision. The blonde smiled at him for this and gave him a short kiss on the forehead.

“He’ll be okay hun, he knows how to take care of himself.” Oh how badly Dream wanted to believe Sapnap. But it was hard for him to do that when his boyfriend hugged him even tighter after he’d said those words, obviously not even believing himself.

“It’s okay to feel sad about it Pandas, you don’t have to be the strong one. It’s okay to let your feelings go.” At hearing those words, the ravenette broke. The blonde’s shirt got almost immediately wet from their tears, but they both didn’t really care about that. All Dream and Sapnap cared about at that moment was George.

Their ex-boyfriend, who was forced to marry a stranger.

Notes:

As you might already have seen, this is the last chapter of this book. However, I promised a happy ending, so I will be making a new book in the Royalty AU series, DreamNotNap, which will be part two of this one!

Thank you for reading this book, that really means a lot to me! I hope every single one of you has an amazing day/night, and I’ll (hopefully) see y’all soon <3

Chapter 11: A/N's

Chapter Text

A/N, 08-10-2022

This is not a real chapter, I’m sorry for putting this in here, I just have some important things to tell you guys

-I changed the name of this book! It used to be called “Marry you. Oh, and also you”, but I decided that I wanted to name part two that, so I renamed this one :)

-Talking about part two, it’ll probably take a long time before it comes out. That’s because I’m taking a mental health break. These past few weeks have really been a lot for me, and I haven’t had the time to write as much as I would want to. I do really love writing, but taking a break from it will definitely help to release some pressure on it. I do really want to write part two eventually, I just don’t know how long it’s going to take. I hope you all understand.

Have a great day/night, I love you guys <3

Uh, hello everyone!

It has certainly been a hot minute since my last upload... I just wanted to let y'all know that I rewrote the book, but that I am sadly not planning on writing a part 2 - as you probably already guessed, since it has been so long.

I had rewritten this story, like more than half a year ago, but I just never uploaded it -_-

So just beware, it's still not great or anything, and there are probably a lot of mistakes that I missed. But at least it's better than before, lol.

Thank you so much for all the support throughout my journey with this book, and I'll hopefully see y'all somewhere in the future!
