Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter Text

Tommy crawled around the warped forest, happily giggling at the wiggling of the warped mushrooms and grass in the hot wind. He happily patted at the top of one, sneezing at the spores that were released. Tommy was about to pick the mushroom before he was grabbed and picked up. Shrieking, Tommy turned to see who it was.

Bad smiled at Tommy and adjusted him in his arms, “Hey, no need for screaming. We gotta get everyone inside. The Bastion is gonna be over to trade soon.” Tommy grumbled and latched onto Bad’s neck, looking into Sapnap’s eyes over Bad’s shoulder.

Sapnap reached over and poked Tommy’s cheek, smearing some of the spores. Tommy tried to bite him but Bad hushed the two as the trio walked into the village. Tommy waved at the other demons populating the town square and getting their booths ready for trading. There were vendors selling hoglin hides, weaponry, and gold jewelry. Bad stopped and bought the two boys some hoglin skewers, breathing a little fire on them to make them crunchier.

As they were walking around the market, they heard the calls of the piglins entering the town square.

“Look,” Bad said, pointing at the tallest member of the piglin warriors, “That’s Technoblade, he’s the strongest one in the Bastion. You guys want to grow as big and tall as him one day.” Sapnap and Tommy ooh’ed at him and strained to get a better look. Technoblade had a hand on his sheathed sword and was looking around at the crowd. Tommy leaned forward in Bad’s grasp and waved at him as hard as he could. Techno spotted him and chuffed a hello, nodding at him before going to look at some wares.

“Tommy! You have to be more careful. I could’ve dropped you,” Bad fussed, pulling Tommy further back into his grasp. “You don’t want to get hurt, muffin.”

Tommy raced through the halls of the Bastion, hearing the angered calls of the piglins and brutes behind him. He was so close, he could see the opening to the magma cube room and he was going to get inside. Tommy slid through a hole in the wall and leapt. He was then caught around the waist and was pulled back to the edge.

“Hey, I was so close! What gives?” Tommy cried, being dropped to the ground. He whirled around to see the unamused face of Technoblade, glaring down at him.

“You’re not supposed to be runnin’ around a Bastion unprotected,” Techno said. “You’re gonna get killed. C’mon, kid.” Techno started to pull Tommy behind him by the arm, chuffing in Piglin to the others filling the hallway. Tommy stuck his tongue out at them, squeaking when they rattled their weapons at them.

“You can let go now, I’m not gonna do it again.” Tommy grumbled as they were leaving the Bastion and walking towards the warped forest. “I’m leaving soon anyways.”

Techno hummed and let go of Tommy’s arm, falling behind him and leading the way. “Where ya goin’? Got a server to take you in?”

“Yeah, I got into this server with Tubbo - Dream SMP I think it’s called! I’m gonna rule that server soon,” Tommy grinned, nearly hopping up and down in excitement. “We’re gonna have so much fun, you should come if you have time between being boring and hanging out with your bird!” Techno shrugged, about to reply before Bad ran out of the forest with Sapnap.

“Oh, thank you for finding him Techno, we lost track of him and were worried sick,” Bad said, grabbing Tommy by the shoulders and crouching down to his level. “Tommyinnit, you’d be so grounded if we weren’t about to leave. Don’t do such reckless things!” Tommy rolled his eyes before walking further into the forest.

“Come onto the server if you want Techno, you have my comm ID,” Tommy called out as the three demons walked away. Techno shook his head before turning around and heading back home. He reached into his pocket and opened up the messenger, sending a quick DM.

       [Technoblade]: Stay safe, idiot.

[Tommyinnit]: hey you want to host a coup with me and my brother

       [Technoblade]: Oh boy, do I.

Chapter 2: First Meeting

Chapter Text

Bad ran towards the edge of L’manberg, slipping through the crowd to stop and see Tommy, Tubbo, and Dream in a standoff on the walls. He hissed under his breath, looking around for Sapnap. Thankfully, he was nearby, an indecipherable look on his face and he talked to George. Bad quickly walked over to the pair and pulled Sapnap to the side.

“Sap, we need to get Tommy out of here, this isn’t going to end well,” Bad whispered quickly, seeing Tommy flinch at something Tubbo said. “He needs to leave.” Sapnap yanked his arm out of Bad’s grip.

“He burned down George’s house! He needs to be punished,” Sapnap growled, looking back at George before glaring at Bad.

“And you’ll have your own cousin, someone you consider a brother, punished like this? For a mistake?” Bad was appalled. “We’re a social creature, son, he’ll die out there with no one to be there.” Bad could see Sapnap wavering but he still had that stubborn glint in his eyes.

“So nothing is wrong with hurting George?”

“Is nothing wrong with hurting Tommy ?”

Sapnap paced around before swearing quickly. “Fine, fuck, we’ll get him out of the fucking server, I guess.” He looked over at Dream who was gesturing angrily at Tommy now. “I can get you maybe ten minutes right now if you can get him.”

“Can do. You’re doing the right thing here, Sap. I’m so proud of you,” Bad said, dropping a kiss on his head. With one last nod, they quickly leave - Sapnap pearling to the top of the wall and Bad climbing onto a nearby roof to get a better angle to snatch Tommy quickly.

Sapnap dropped onto the walls, the crunch of the obsidian giving him away. The trio turned to look at him, Dream’s posture going tight.

“Hey, Sap, you really shouldn’t be here right now. Got something going on,” Dream said, ushering him further down the wall. “We can talk later if you need something.”

Sapnap shook his head, “Can’t Dream, we got a bad glitch going on at the Community House. Fundy is like trapped in a wall and blocks are getting glitchy.” Dream tilted his head at him and stared into his eyes. He cannot be caught now; a little self deluding is fine for Tommy. He’s going to be safe as long as he lies to his best friend for over a decade.

“Fine. Let’s take a quick look at everything. Tubbo, keep an eye on Tommy,” Dream said dismissively as he pulled up an interface, and quickly TP’d away. And within the next second, Bad leaped onto the wall and grabbed Tommy, covering his mouth so he wouldn’t scream. Tubbo spun around and caught the last glance of Bad’s tail as he flung himself off the side of the wall.

“Is he going to be safe,” Tubbo said quietly, watching as Bad ran away from the wall. Sapnap walked closer and covered his eyes from the sun as he looked.

“Eh, should be. Bad wouldn’t leave him with someone who would do anything bad,” Sapnap said, thinking a bit. “Well Uncle Tango would probably lose him but it’ll be fine.”

Bad slunk through the woods surrounding L’manberg as quietly as possible. They had no idea where Dream was at the moment and time was of the essence. He sighed in relief when he stopped next to the crying obsidian portal. Tommy wiggled out of his hold and dropped quietly to the ground.

“Bad, what is this,” Tommy said, walking forward and touching the portal frame. Bad reached out and patted Tommy on the head before grabbing a fire charge and his sword from his inventory.

“This is a secret that we’re going to be exploiting today, bud. Humans will never know the extent of knowledge that we have on our fingertips,” Bad said, cutting his fingertips and dripping blood on the fire charge. The charge hummed and glowed brighter. Tommy leaned closer and ooh’ed at the light show. “This is one of those secrets. I’m going to show you how demons have gotten away from invaders into our homes. You like a crying portal with demon blood and it opens to a relative that is safe.”

“But what if I can’t get back,” Tommy whispered. “Tubbo is gonna get hurt if I don’t go into exile.” Bad pulled Tommy in under his arm and Tommy curled closer.

“Bud, we’re going to be fine. Tubbo is under my protection and I’ll protect him with my life, okay?” Bad looked down into Tommy’s eyes smiling. “He’s going to be fine, we just need you safe first so I can focus on him and Sap.” Bad pulled away after a second before cracking the fire charge against the portal. The portal shuddered for a moment before lighting up a furious, glowing red.

Bad turned around once more and grabbed Tommy’s hand, pulling him closer to the portal entrance. “You just need to go into this portal and hand this note to the demon on the other side, okay?” Bad said, passing Tommy an envelope embossed with their clan sigil. “They’ll help you; you’re blood and a child.”

Tommy looked down and glanced back the way they came, almost thinking that he could see the lights of L’manberg over the trees. He took a deep breath, gave Bad one last quick hug, and flung himself into the portal.

The Hermits were enjoying a casual first meeting on their new server. Everyone was looking over the terrain and talking about what kinds of builds that they could make and neighborhoods they were thinking of forming. Xisuma cleared their throat and was about to start the opening words and introductions to new Hermits when they all heard a buzzing coming from behind a confused Tango.

Out of thin air, a portal formed on the ground. It was a vicious looking thing that had everyone readying themselves for battle until they saw a blonde teen tunble out at Tango’s feet. He was covered in soot and staring around at the people gathered before zeroing in on Tango.

“Ah, Big Man, gotta note for you!” He said, holding out an envelope. Tango scented the letter before his eyes widened. He quickly ripped open the note and scanned it for the relevant information. Tango crumpled the letter before lighting it on fire and sighing. Tango crouched down in front of him and poked the teen in the cheek, laughing as he tried to bite him.

“Welp, you’re stuck with me now I guess. Uncle Tango at your whims,” Tango smiled and lifted the teen up under his arms. He put him down facing the other hermits and they were taken aback by how similar the two looked, down to their eye shapes and nose. “This is my nephew, Tommy, and he’s gonna be with us for a while! Home burning down and child soldier, you get the gist.”

Tommy smiled with fangs showing and eyes glowing. “Nice to meet y’all. Name’s Big Man Tommy.”

Xisuma felt a sudden premonition - this is going to be another Grian situation.
