Work Text:

Kaeya is a child of summer. He absolutely despised the cold. He loved warmth and the sun, his skin soaking the rays in and him glowing even prettier because of it. He would spend days in the heat, trailing after the little duckies and farm animals, playing imaginary games and pretending to look for treasure. Kaeya loved laying on flowers and the fresh cut grass, he loved mud puddles and getting his clothes messy. Kaeya loves how summer makes him feel. Free and warm and loved.

Diluc absolutely hates the sun. He loathes it even more than he loathes the Fatui. Curse the blasted summer heat! He wants to stay at home, soak up the coolness of the fans they installed, he wants to eat up all of the ice cream he saved, even if Adelinde disagrees with him. Diluc loves winter, he loves the pretty bits of snow that would fall from the sky. The chill feels more at home. It gives him an excuse to hole up in his room and relax, reading through his various romance novels that Kaeya makes fun of him for and he wants to drag that little minx under the covers and revel in the soft coolness of his skin. Diluc loves how winter makes him feel. Safe and nostalgic and at peace.

That being said, Diluc is absolutely miserable right now.

“Look, Luc!” Kaeya called out, “It’s so sunny outside!”

“Enough to fry an egg and roast steak on the ground.”

“Oh, don’t complain. Tell you what, let’s go to the lake and have a picnic, hmm?”

“I’ll throw you in it.”

Kaeya stuck out his tongue and waved his hand around, flaunting the shiny ring on his finger. “No takesies backsies!”

Diluc’s face soured. “Archons help me, I married a child.”

Diluc missed the days when Kaeya was so little and small, he would always cling to his gege’s side and hold his hand, so amazed and terrified of the world but so trusting of Diluc. Always listening to what Diluc said like a good cute little didi.

Now he finds himself listening and agreeing to everything and anything Kaeya says. The annoying part is that he’s fully aware that he can’t say no to that face and he wants to smack himself for it. Lisa’s voice giggled slyly at the back of his mind, “You’re so whipped, Master Diluc~”

Kaeya dragged him outside on their “Little Summer Adventure”, as he called it. Diluc immediately took the bags that Kaeya was carrying, even as the cryo user attempted to get them back. He eventually relented, running up ahead and enjoying the summer heat. Kaeya wore a light baggy shirt and pants, forgoing his shoes or slippers, opting to go bare feet to fully enjoy nature’s gentle thrumming underneath his soles. Diluc, who was suffering under his heavy red mane, decided to abandon his shirt, much to Kaeya’s pleasure. Unlike Kaeya, he decided to wear his slippers, because there was no way he was going to feed his suffering even more.

It was worth it, though.

Kaeya jumped around like a little nature fairy, glowing so prettily that Diluc swore he looked like some beautiful foreign archon. That growing flush in his cheeks, his skin colouring pleasantly and the happiness in his eyes. For Diluc, he removed his eyepatch, a lustrous gold and a starry blue pair gazing at Diluc with so much warmth. Yes, summer is an awful thing, but Diluc would endure a thousand more of them in his lifetime if he must.

Kaeya will have to suffer later in the winter, anyways. It’s a fair trade.

They arrived at the lake Kaeya was so intent on going to. Diluc set down the bags as Kaeya placed down some things, by the sounds Diluc was hearing. He turned around, and then froze.

Kaeya stripped down to his underwear and reclined on a towel he laid down, bathing in the sun. Beautiful, bare skin on full display, plump and soft and dripping with sweat.

Diluc’s jaw slacked.

Kaeya raised his brow. “Move out of the way, loverboy, you’re blocking the sun.”

Diluc pouted and sat in the lake.
