Chapter Text
The ninja walked across the ferry, looking at all the different elemental masters. Some looked harmless, some looked dangerous, and some looked like nobodies you would forget unless given a reason to remember them.
“Don’t underestimate anyone,” Garmadon warned. “Nobody here would be someone to be trifled with under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Chen is bringing you all together to do.”
“Do you know all these elemental masters?” Jay asked.
“Only a few. Most I’ve never seen, only heard of.” He nodded in the direction of a man with heavy-looking metal gloves on his hands. “That’s Karlof, master of Metal. And Griffin Turner, the master of Speed,” he added about another man nearby. “He inherited his powers from his grandfather.”
Jay scoffed as Turner zipped around the boat at an inhuman pace.
“Master of Speed? Pfft, that’s not an element!”
“So asks the master of Lightning,” Garmadon countered with a smile.
“Oh, snap, he gotcha there,” Cole laughed, and Jay pouted.
“What about them?” Lloyd asked, looking at a group of people all standing close together by the railing. They were the only other people who seemed to know each other, aside from the ninja. One blonde girl seemed to be with them, but stood slightly farther away, lost in thought.
“I haven’t met any of them before, but I know who they are,” Garmadon said. “The girl and boy with the brown hair are the Vacker siblings, Biana and Fitzroy.” Jay and Kai snickered at their names, but Garmadon ignored them. “They are the masters of Light and Mind, passed down from their parents. The other siblings are the twins, Linh and Tam Song, masters of Water and Shadow. Their aunt and uncle had no children to pass their powers on to, so they went to their niece and nephew.” Those two seemed to stand especially close together, Tam’s arm slung protectively around his sister. She didn’t seem to need it. They both looked powerful. Dangerous.
“Better watch out, Kai,” Cole said, nudging him with a smile. “Your hair might have some competition.”
Kai had to admit, their hair did look pretty cool. Long and black with silver tips, he had trouble convincing himself not to be jealous.
“The boy with the blond hair is Dexter Dizznee, master of Gravity,” Garmadon continued. “He got his abilities from his father.” The master of Gravity looked the least threatening out of all of them. There didn’t really seem to be anything special about him, and he didn’t seem to be especially close to anyone there.
“But what about her?” Lloyd asked, nodding at the girl standing a little ways off from the rest of the group. She had a careless, almost bored look about her, like she didn’t really want to be there, but had nothing better to do. Something about her made Lloyd wary. Despite looking fairly ordinary, she didn’t look like someone he wanted to mess with. She seemed like she was hiding something. Like she was more powerful than she looked on the outside.
“Ah, yes, the master of Amber,” Garmadon said. “Sophie Foster. I admit I don’t know much about her, other than her name and element. She’s the leader of her team, but I couldn’t tell you anything else. I believe she's adopted, so I'm not even sure where her powers come from.”
“Amber? What does Amber do?”
“Amber gives her the ability to absorb other elements. I would be careful around her,” Garmadon warned them. “She carries all of her friends’ elements, as well as those of any other elemental master she’s touched.”
“Yeah… let’s maybe stay away from her,” Jay said nervously.
“I would advise it,” Garmadon agreed seriously. “She is the most powerful out of all of them. She is arguably the most dangerous person on this boat.”
“... Sounds like a nice girl,” Lloyd said, watching as Sophie’s group was approached by girl with strawberry blonde hair. By the way they greeted her, she was one of them. Despite her small size, she looked like she could kick all the ninja’s butts at once, just by the cold look on her face.
“Who’s that?” Jay asked.
“I don’t know,” Garmadon admitted. “I’ve never seen her before.”
“I don’t like her,” he decided.
“Why, because you’re worried there might be someone in this tournament who manages to be both shorter and more powerful than you?” Kai teased.
“No! She just… she looks scary, okay? I don’t like the look of her.” He crossed his arms, and the others laughed.
“Whatever you say, Sparky,” Cole said.
“Okay, but seriously, what’s with those capes they’re all wearing? Are they trying to be superheroes or something?” Jay asked. “They look ridiculous.”
“Nah, they look alright,” Cole said thoughtfully, then grinned. “You’re just jealous because you couldn’t pull it off.”
“I could too!” Jay sputtered angrily. “Why is everyone bullying me right now, anyway? We need to be focused on finding Zane and getting home.”
“He’s right,” Lloyd said. “Finding Zane needs to be our top priority, and we can’t afford to get distracted.”
Kai sighed.
“Even if it means not bullying Jay?”
“Especially then!” Jay said angrily, and the others grinned.
Notes:
I was going to make Dex the elemental master of Technology, but then I realized that they hadn't been allowed to bring any weapons to the island, and assumed that went for gadgets, too. So he gets to be Gravity instead, since in the books he's always talking about how his dad makes him practice his skills all the time, and levitating is one of those skills. Anyway, I think it fits pretty well.
Chapter 2: Team Moonlark
Summary:
A little peek at the Keeper side of things
Notes:
Wanted to get another little something out before the new year and found this sitting in my docs! It's short, but I think it's a decent introduction to the Keeper side of the story :)
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
No one on Team Moonlark let their guard down as they stood on the ferry, watching the other elemental masters. Mr. Forkle had done his best to brief and prepare them, but there was only so much he could do before leaving the rest up to them.
Sophie leaned against the railing, pushing loose strands of hair behind her ears and trying to look nonchalant despite the panic rising in her chest.
She wasn’t sure what she’d expected, but it certainly wasn’t this. These people all looked so confident, like they knew what they were doing. She felt more and more out of place the more she saw.
She tried to calm herself, but nearly jumped out of her skin when a familiar voice spoke into her mind.
We’ve got this, Sophie, Fitz told her.
… Are we ready for this?
Of course we are, he assured her. I mean, as ready as we’ll ever be.
Sophie tried unsuccessfully to fight back a nervous smile.
Well, that makes me feel so much better.
Fitz didn’t bother hiding his smile.
Just relax, we’ll be in and out of that place in no time. We’ve done much more dangerous things, this should be simple.
Sophie didn’t bother arguing that this was quite possibly the most dangerous thing they’d ever done. Mr. Forkle had warned them how dangerous Master Chen was. She wasn’t about to underestimate him.
“... Oh, no,” she heard Tam breath, just as Marella rejoined the group.
She was about to ask what was going on when she turned and saw for herself. She felt a spike of fear as her stomach dropped.
The ninja.
After a moment of panic, she opened her thoughts and added everyone elses as well so they could have a telepathic conversation.
The ninja are competing?! Biana demanded immediately. How is that fair? They’ll win for sure!
Because I’m sure Chen is so passionate about being fair, Tam retorted, silencing her.
What are we going to do? Dex asked nervously. There’s no way we’re beating them! They’re freaking trained ninjas!
Sophie took a deep breath.
Look, she said seriously. This doesn’t change anything. We still have the same goal. We may have some dangerous opponents, but our mission stays the same. Get in, find Keefe, and get out. And until we get out of there with him, we play along with Chen’s game. All we need to do is stay in the tournament until that can happen. Got it?
There was a reluctant chorus of Yeah’s and Got it’s, and Sophie was satisfied.
They were going to find Keefe, and these ninja were not about to stop them.
