Discovery

Summary:

Discovering yourself is a long and difficult path, but sometimes help comes from the most unintentional and unexpected places.

Basically Reki and Langa see Victor and Yuuri's kiss on TV and realisations happen.

Inspired by m1tomothman 's fic 'To find our happiness'

Notes:

Idk what to say here lol, enjoy the fic. I might make this a two shot.

Work Text:

Langa was 12 years old when he watched Katsuki's routine. His mother had been flipping aimlessley through various channels when she had stumbled upon a live coverage of the 2016 grand prix finale.
"Ooo let's watch this, it's been years since I last watched a grand prix" Turns out his mother used to be a figure skating fan.

Langa stared passively at the TV as his mother prattled on excitedly about all of Katsuki's jumps and spins, gasping everytime Katsuki pulled of an assumedly amazing feat. While he didn't understand half of what Katsuki was doing, he could recognise the man's strong and graceful movements (like a ballerina, he thought) as he glided effortlessly across the ice.

But it was what happened after that stuck in Langa's mind and probably changed the rest of his life.

Katsuki slid into the centre of the ice, arm reaching out towards something off of it, expression pleading. The music came to a close and the crowd burst into applause, people whooped and hollered, but Katsuki was unpeturbed as he bolted away. Panicked, the camera swivelled around to where he was heading to. There a grey haired man stood-

"Victor Nikiforov?!" His mother exclaimed.

Just as the words left her mouth the man leapt into the arms of the other skater sending them both crashing into the ground, their lips pressed together. Langa's eyes widened and something... something clicked in his brain. Like he had been trying to solve the worlds hardest puzzle and he'd finally found how all the pieces fit. As the two on the TV gazed lovingly into eachother's eyes Langa came to a realisation. That he wanted to be like that with someone. Wanted to be loved like that not by a girl but a boy. Feeling out of place when his male classmates would talk about their female crushes finally made sense. He felt scared but happy, somewhat content with the fact that he knew and didnt need to worry about that just yet. He probably wouldn't find someone to date until he was old like the skaters on TV.

Reki was 12 when he caught his mother and sister watching the grand prix finale.

"Why are you even watching that it's SO BORING." Reki groaned making his sister stick her tongue out at him.

"Shut up Reki, we're not watching your stupid cartoons!"

"Hey! They're not stupid. YOU'RE stupid!"

"Can you both quiet down please," their mother sighed, "Japan's up next."

Reki sulked in the corner as his mother and sister gazed at the screen intently. What was even so great about skating anyway? It was just some people sliding around on ice, even he could skate (granted he fell over several times but he could still do it).

Then it was over. The crowd cheered and Reki jumped up. Finally they could actually watch something decent. Turning to the TV Reki froze mouth agape, they were kissing, two men on the TV were kissing and Reki's brain short circuted. But wasn't it supposed to be a man and a women- no, Reki rationalised. Why couldn't two men kiss and be in love and stuff like that? You know what good for them, he thought. Though something about the kiss made him want to pause but he brushed it off. Why should he give it anymore thought? They could kiss and it wasn't as if Reki wanted to do that. Kissing was gross and anyway he was pretty sure he liked girls.

It was 5 years later that Reki would discover bisexuality after 3 minutes of panicked googling when a cute Canadian guy had beat one of the top skaters at S and Reki developed a small (read huge) crush on him.
