Work Text:
dental work
There's a new cavity
Sat right in between your teeth,
Right where your tooth curves in
Toward the root,
Your second and third molar
On your left side.
But the ache only starts
When sugar weaves its way in,
Plaque settled where you refuse to floss,
So you've learned to only eat sugar
With the right side of your mouth.
Eventually though, as all things do,
Your right side wears thin
Your enamel gives up
And an ache becomes a pain
And the pain shoots out of your mouth
And these shots ring out loud enough
To detonate your eardrums and
Your best friend and the plaque in between
His teeth and yours
And the hard candy you bit into
Because it wouldn't get any smaller
And the sugar nestled in between
Your second and third molar
On your left side.
