Fashionable Tales of an Elegant Magistocrat

Summary:

Kaz Kaan is a gentleman of style and elegance and he likes to reflect that in his choice of attire.

These stories revolve around the magistocrat and his love of luxury formalwear as he dresses in classy suits, sleek silk shirts, and fancy tuxedos.

Notes:

What can I say? I just like writing about guys in formal attire and Neo Yokio gives me ample opportunities to do so.

More short stories following this theme will be added as chapters when completed.

If you're interested in reading stories where said classy and elegant attire winds up getting ruined or destroyed (usually during battles with demons), check out my other compilation work titled 'How Can I Be Neo Yokio's Number One Bachelor When My Outfits Keep Getting Ruined?!!'

Chapter 1: A Pink Silk Shirt

Summary:

Kaz is shopping for some new clothes when he comes across a silk dress shirt that's the perfect colour.

Chapter Text

Kaz Kaan was browsing around Bergdorf’s for some new clothes. One thing Kaz hated about his work as a magistocrat and exorcist was the toll it took on his expensive luxury attire. Battling demons often left his outfits in tatters. At least Kaz enjoyed shopping for classy new apparel to wear. He always liked to be on the ball when it came to style and designer fashion.

While Kaz was checking out the selection of silk dress shirts, one in particular caught his eye. The magistocrat picked it up and held it against himself in the mirror. The silk shirt was just the right shade of pink to match his hair. It was like the shirt was made for him. Kaz had to go immediately try it on and ran into a changing room. Once the buttons were fastened and the shirt was tucked in, Kaz then looked at himself in the mirror. He loved how stylish and fashionable he looked. Well, Kaz always felt he looked stylish and fashionable, but right how he was feeling even more so. He definitely had to get this shirt.

“Is there anything I can help you with, Mr. Kaan?” Herbert the salesclerk asked as Kaz stepped out of the changing room. “Yes, there is, salesclerk. I would like to get at least two more of this exact shirt,” Kaz sated and gestured to the pink silk dress shirt he was wearing. Kaz wanted to have a couple spares in case one got ruined during a demon battle like many other casualties from his wardrobe.

“Of course, Mr. Kaan. I will get them for you right away,” Herbert said and dashed off. Kaz looked at himself in another mirror. He was proud of himself for this find. Kaz felt like paying a visit to Lexy and Gottlieb in their little bar. He wanted to enjoy a caprese martini while wearing his stylish new shirt.

Chapter 2: All Dressed Up and Not Going Anywhere

Summary:

Kaz dresses in a fancy suit and just hangs around his apartment doing whatever he feels like.

After all, there's no rule that says you can't be all dressed up while just lazing about.

Chapter Text

Kaz Kaan looked at his reflection in the mirror as he slid up his necktie and then put on and fastened his suit jacket. Once the magistocrat felt that he looked fully presentable, he then gave himself a couple spritzes of cologne and added a fancy gold wristwatch to his ensemble.

He was all dressed up and ready…to laze about the apartment. After all, who says you can’t be dressed to the nines while doing nothing? For Kaz, a suit worked for any occasion, even if that occasion was just kicking back and watching TV. Kaz curled up on the couch and flicked on the television screen. He ordered Charles to go make some popcorn.

“Would you like extra butter, sir?” the mecha-butler asked.

“Just a little bit,” Kaz replied, “I don’t want the butter getting all over my good suit.”

“Very good, sir. I will make sure to add the exact amount and no more,” Charles said, then went off to make the popcorn.

Kaz flipped through the various channels. He had hundreds of TV channels available, yet very few had shows that he actually found interesting. He saw a schmaltzy romance movie and quickly changed the channel as it reminded him of Cathy. He saw a news report about protests against police brutality in the poorer parts of Neo Yokio and changed the channel because that was of no interest to him. Kaz then finally found a show he enjoyed, Lifestyles of Neo Yokio’s Filthy Rich. He knew many of the people who had been featured in the show. Kaz wished they would feature him in an episode, but unfortunately the show didn’t cover magistocrats. It was probably something to do with the show wanting to keep a good rapport with many of those who didn’t care for ‘rat catchers,’ as they liked to call magistocrats.

Kaz sat back on the sofa and waited to see who the show would be featuring today. His face immediately curled into a displeased look when the person of interest was revealed to be Arcangelo Corelli. Kaz immediately changed the channel again. He’d rather be watching that schmaltzy romance movie than an episode of a show featuring his social nemesis. The magistocrat sighed. Would he find anything on television worth watching?

Kaz finally settled on an old action movie. He’d seen it before, but he really liked it and so didn’t mind watching it again. It contained a lot of violence, explosions, and scantily clad women. What wasn’t to love about it? Charles returned with the popcorn and handed to Kaz. The magistocrat took the bowl of popcorn and began eating handfuls of the movie snack. The mecha-butler placed some wet wipes on the coffee table in front of the sofa for Kaz to use when his hands got too buttery.

Once he had finished the popcorn, Kaz wiped his hands and then sat back to enjoy the rest of the movie. When it was over, Kaz then looked for something else to watch.

After a couple hours, Kaz got bored with watching television and turned his TV off. The magistocrat then stood up and stretched. He felt like listening to some tunes. While Kaz usually just requested Charles to play something from the mecha-butler’s vast selection of music, Kaz wanted something a little more physical this time. The magistocrat walked over to his record player and selected a vinyl album from his large collection. He then placed the record on the player and placed the needle gently on the record. Hearing the soft crackle of a vinyl record just felt soothing for the magistocrat. Kaz lay back down on the sofa as the stereo system filled the apartment with the dulcet tones of smooth jazz. Once one side of the record ended, Kaz had Charles flip it and play the other side.

When dinner rolled around, Charles asked Kaz what he would like to eat. The magistocrat thought for a moment.

“You know what, Charles? I feel like ordering a pizza tonight,” Kaz said.

“Excellent idea, sir. I will get on it right away,” the mecha-butler said and dialed Giuseppe’s Pizzeria through his system.

About forty minutes later, a call came into Kaz’s apartment that his pizza was delivered. Kaz let the delivery guy up to his residence and answered the door.

“Here you go,” the delivery guy said as he handed the pizzas to Kaz.

“Hang on, I thought I just ordered one pizza. Why are there two?” Kaz asked. That’s when Sadie popped out of her little compartment in Charles’ torso.

“Hey, I need to eat too, ya know,” she said as she stepped out of the contraption.

Kaz sighed. Of course. Kaz paid for both pizzas and even told the delivery guy to keep the tip. It was a small price to pay to make sure he had a good mechanical servant on hand. Both Kaz and Sadie sat down and enjoyed their pizzas. Once they were finished, Sadie hopped back into Charles and made Kaz a big sundae for dessert.

Kaz had enjoyed his day of sitting back and doing nothing while wearing a fancy suit. That’s when a call from Aunt Agatha came in through Charles. A demon who had been disguised as a fashion photographer was wreaking havoc at a photoshoot for a famous designer’s latest collection. They required someone to come deal with the problem immediately, so of course Aunt Agatha was charging her emergency rate. Kaz sighed and went to put on his dress shoes. So much for enjoying a full day of doing nothing.

“Alright, let’s go, Charles,” Kaz said. The two of them exited the apartment complex. Kaz then hopped on the back of his mecha-butler and they headed off to go deal with the demonic problem at the fashion photoshoot.

But that is another tale for another time.

Chapter 3: Silky Smooth

Summary:

Kaz puts on a silk shirt & tie to show off his elegance and expensive taste at Freddie Miles' party.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kaz Kaan fastened the buttons of a white silk dress shirt and tucked it into a pair of coal-grey dress pants. Kaz then tied a dark-blue silk necktie and tucked a matching folded dark-blue silk handkerchief into his shirt pocket. What was the reason for all the silk attire? Kaz was going to a party hosted by Freddie Miles, so the magistocrat wanted to make sure he gave off an air of class and style, even more so than usual.

Kaz loved wearing silk formal attire because not only did it show off his elegance and expensive taste, but he also enjoyed the feeling of the soft and smooth fabric on his skin. If he got lucky, perhaps the smooth texture of his silk shirt would entice a girl at the party to wrap her arm around his and remain next to him. Between Cathy, Sailor Pellegrino, and Helena, Kaz hadn’t had very good luck keeping a woman by his side. That needed to change.

Kaz hopped on the back of Charles and headed off to the party. As Kaz flew through the air, the wind made a rippling effect on his shirt and his necktie flapped in the air. Once he landed, Kaz smoothed out his shirt and and adjusted his necktie to make sure he was still as well put together as he was when he had left the apartment. Kaz then walked up the stairs to Freddie’s residence and joined his fellow rich young members of high society at the party.

Chapter 4: The Purple Tuxedo

Summary:

Kaz is looking for an outfit that will make him stand out and show off his style and elegance to everyone at an upcoming party. He comes across one that he feels will do the trick.

However, Kaz's archrival Arcangelo is also planning the same thing. When the two gentlemen cross paths at the party, they're both quite surprised to see what the other is wearing.

Chapter Text

Kaz Kaan was browsing around Bergdorf’s for the perfect outfit for an upcoming party. He needed something that displayed his class and elegance, but it also had to be something that made the magistocrat stand out. He wasn’t about to be shown up by Arcangelo Corelli again like he was at the Black and White Ball. It would be Kaz that had the last laugh this time.

The magistocrat was having a difficult time deciding on what he was going to wear. While there was no shortage of elegant formalwear at Bergdorf’s, there was nothing that really stood out to Kaz. None of the designer suits looked anything out of the ordinary, probably because Kaz wore that kind of attire on a regular basis. No, Kaz wanted an outfit he knew would catch everyone’s eye. That’s when the magistocrat spotted something he thought would do the trick. Out of the corner of his eye, Kaz caught a glimpse of a tuxedo on display and walked over to get a good look at it. The outfit in question consisted of a royal-purple-coloured jacket with black lapels and matching royal-purple dress pants. It also included a white pleated dress shirt with gold-trimmed black buttons. A black bow tie and two pairs of gold cufflinks completed the ensemble. This was just the kind of outfit Kaz was looking for.

“I see you eyeing our display. Are you interested in purchasing this ensemble?” Herbert the salesclerk asked as he approached the magistocrat.

Kaz stroked his chin as he eyed the display. “I am certainly considering it. I need a new eye-catching outfit for an upcoming party. I think this might be it,” Kaz stated.

“You have a very good eye, Mr. Kaan. I’d expect no less of someone with your level of taste,” Herbert stated. He took a key and unlocked the display case. “The jacket is made of silk velvet and is incredibly smooth to the touch,” the salesclerk said. Kaz placed his hand on a jacket sleeve to get a feel of the fabric. Touching the velvet material confirmed Kaz’s feelings. He absolutely had to try the outfit on.

Kaz fastened the tuxedo jacket and then looked at himself in the changing room mirror. He adjusted the cufflinks and straightened the bow tie. The magistocrat then carefully looked himself over in this new outfit. He would definitely be catching the eyes of his peers in this outfit at the party. The magistocrat had made up his mind. He would be purchasing this ensemble.

After Kaz changed back into his regular outfit, he had Herbert take his new tuxedo away to be placed in a garment bag and rung up for purchase. Usually, Kaz wore his new outfits right away, even before leaving the department store (this included tuxedos). However, this time the magistocrat didn’t want anyone seeing him in his new outfit until the day of the party. He wanted to keep it fresh for the occasion. While he was there, Kaz decided to browse around Bergdorf’s to see if there was anything else he could add to his wardrobe.

“Hey, homie!” came a familiar voice.

Kaz sighed. “I should have just left,” he muttered to himself, then turned around. “Hello, Arcangelo,” the magistocrat said while resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

“Trying to find something to impress everyone at the party? Don’t bother. Once everyone sees me in my outfit, no one is even going to be paying attention to you,” Arcangelo gloated.

Kaz looked Arcangelo up and down. Instead of his usual turtleneck and jacket, the rich blond was wearing a light-blue suit and matching necktie with a light-pink dress shirt. “In that outfit? It looks pretty average to me,” the magistocrat retorted.

“Pfuh! This thing? Please! This is just a little something I decided to add to my wardrobe. In fact, I’ve been thinking about knocking down a wall to one of the guest rooms in our mansion so that I can expand my closet. After all, with so many guest rooms at our manor, what’s one less?” Arcangelo stated in a haughty manner, “My actual party outfit will be much more dazzling than this.”

Kaz finally rolled his eyes at his archrival’s comment. “Sure, Arcangelo. Whatever you say,” he said sarcastically.

“Humph! You just wait and see,” Arcangelo said as he gave his hair a flip. He and the other East Side Gentlemen then walked away to a different part of the department store.

After that little interaction, Kaz wasn’t in the mood to shop anymore. He decided to just go pay for his new outfit and leave. The magistocrat hopped on the back of his mecha-butler Charles and took off for his apartment. He couldn’t wait to show off his tuxedo at the upcoming party. Not even Arcangelo could ruin that feeling.

It was the day of the party and Kaz was getting himself ready for the occasion. He stood in front of the mirror as he dressed himself in his brand-new tuxedo. Kaz admired his appearance as he tied his bow tie and fastened his cufflinks. Kaz then pulled on and buttoned up the tuxedo jacket.

“You look marvelous, sir,” Charles said to the magistocrat.

“Indeed, I do, Charles. Indeed, I do,” Kaz said as he carefully looked himself over to make sure every part of his ensemble was correct. Once Kaz felt that his outfit looked perfect, he rode his mecha-butler to the party.

After landing and hopping off of Charles, Kaz smoothed out his tuxedo jacket and straightened his bow tie. He then walked up to the front door of the establishment where the party was being held. The doorman standing guard checked the list of names to see if the magistocrat was on it. After confirming that he was, the doorman allowed Kaz entry into the party.

Kaz entered the main hall where the party was being held and glanced around at his fellow partygoers. Most of the guys were dressed in the usual designer suits and there were even a few others in tuxedos, but none of those outfits looked as fancy as what Kaz was wearing. The magistocrat felt really proud of himself for his find.

Kaz accepted a glass of champagne offered by a servant. With his drink in hand, the magistocrat began wandering around to see who he could chat with at the party. He joined in the conversation with a couple of young women at the party where they discussed the latest goings on in Neo Yokio high society and all the current trends. The two women looked Kaz over and complimented his attire. It was definitely the standout outfit at the party in their eyes. Kaz was feeling very confident. He would be taking the top spot on the Bachelor Board after tonight for sure.

The three of them carried on a conversation for a while before Kaz heard a familiar annoying voice.

            “Kaz?!” the voice inquired.

The magistocrat sighed and turned around. “What do you want Arcangel-” Kaz asked before stopping mid-sentence as he saw what Arcangelo was wearing. The rich blond was sporting the exact same outfit Kaz had on, right down to the gold cufflinks.

“Well, well, well. Look who decided to copy my look,” Arcangelo said with a smug demeanor.

“Excuse me?! How dare you make such a slanderous accusation! I found this outfit at Bergdorf’s and chose it for its eye-catching appeal. It has nothing to do with you. In fact, I saw you at Bergdorf’s after I picked out this outfit. Who’s to say you’re not the one copying me?!” Kaz angrily replied. If the magistocrat had had a white glove, he would have slapped Arcangelo with it for this attack on his character.

“Me? Copy a neo-riche loser like you? In your dreams, rat catcher,” Arcangelo laughed, “I had this outfit personally flown in from Paris over a week ago.”

A crowd had gathered around Kaz and Arcangelo and watched as the two gentlemen continued to glare intensely at one another.

“Looks like we’ll have to ask our peers who wears it better. Of course, everyone knows it’s me. Prepare to lose the popularity contest, Kaz,” Arcangelo said with a cocky grin. He then turned to the crowd watching the two of them. “Everyone! Your attention, please! Which of the two of us looks better in this outfit?! Let’s hear those answers!” Arcangelo announced.

The members of the crowd looked at each other. A number of people said that Arcangelo wore it better, while several others said Kaz did. Quite a few people couldn’t decide and said they both looked good in that outfit. In the end, there was no decisive winner.

Kaz sighed. “Well, I guess it’s a tie then,” he said. However, Arcangelo stood with a clenched fist as he gritted his teeth.

“No! I refuse to accept this outcome!” the rich blond exclaimed angrily. Arcangelo then spotted someone at the party that he felt could determine the final answer and so approached her. It was Constance Bjornson, who was considered Neo Yokio’s new premier fashion blogger ever since Helena St. Tessero quit the business.

“Hey, Constance. You enjoying the party? Listen, I need your expertise on a little problem,” Arcangelo said.

“What are you doing?” Kaz whispered with a bit of annoyance and confusion in his demeanor, but he was ignored by Arcangelo.

Constance turned around to look at the rich blond. “Yes? What is it you need?” she asked. She then saw Kaz and noticed that the two of them were wearing the same outfit. “Oh, is this the latest trend that I’m witnessing?” Constance asked with intrigue.

Arcangelo gave a cocky smile and flipped his hair. “Well, it’s true that I am a trendsetter,” the rich blond said, which made Kaz want to gag at his comment. “However, that’s not what I approached you for,” Arcangelo continued, “It is imperative that everyone be made aware of who wears this outfit better. I mean, I know it’s me, but there needs to be an official statement from someone of your position.”

Constance carefully looked the two guys over in their fancy tuxedos. “Hmm, I’m having a really hard time deciding. Both of you look very classy and elegant in your attire,” she said, then pulled out her cell phone. “I’ll need some support for this one,” Constance stated as she tapped on her phone screen. “I’m going to take a picture of the two of you. Give me your best profile,” she said as he held up her phone. Both Kaz and Arcangelo posed for the camera as the picture was taken.

“I’m posting this to my social media in a poll so that my followers can decide who wears it better,” Constance stated as she went back to tapping on her phone screen, “Then we’ll have a clear winner.”

Arcangelo turned to Kaz and gave a smug smirk. “I’m looking forward to beating your ass by popular vote,” he said before walking away.

“Ha! I wouldn’t be too sure about that,” Kaz replied. The magistocrat had been trending in popularity recently, especially after saving a couple of important historical buildings from demonic attacks. He felt that this might be the final push to get him to that top spot on the Bachelor Board.

Kaz gazed around at the party as he adjusted his bow tie. “Alright, Kaz. It’s time to work that ol’ magistocratic charm,” he said to himself and went to socialize with his high society peers.

A few days after the party, Kaz was sitting at the dining table and staring glumly at the chocolate fudge sundae Charles had prepared him. The results of Constance’s poll had come in and Arcangelo had won it with 54% while Kaz came in at 46%. However, for Kaz, Arcangelo might as well have gotten 100% of the votes as it had mattered about the same. Kaz also remained in second place under Arcangelo on the city’s Bachelor Board.

“Is this what I’ve been resigned to in life, Charles? To always be second best?” the magistocrat sighed.

“Don’t worry, sir. I’m sure there will come another time where you will be able to prove your worth and take that top spot from Mr. Corelli,” the mecha-butler stated.

Kaz slammed his fist holding the spoon down on the table. “I always come so damn close, but I can never seem to get it!” he ranted.

“Have patience, sir. The time will eventually come,” Charles said, “In the meantime, would you like me to get you a big Toblerone to help you feel better?”

Kaz just sighed. “No, that’s fine, Charles. I’ll just drown my sorrows in this sundae,” he said and began eating the dessert in a melancholic manner. So much for making an impression at that party, but hey, at least he still looked good in that outfit. That gave Kaz a slight bit of solace about the situation.

Chapter 5: Kaz's Dilemma

Summary:

Kaz is faced with a serious dilemma.

He can't decide which colour silk shirt to wear for hanging out with his friends.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

In a penthouse apartment located in the wealthy section of Neo Yokio, a young, pink-haired magistocrat was getting himself ready for that day’s plans. Kaz had freshened up and was now putting on an outfit. However, the magistocrat was faced with a serious dilemma. He could not decide which silk dress shirt to wear for hanging out with Lexy and Gottlieb. He had so many in a variety of different colours that it was incredibly difficult to choose. When selecting a look that was not his usual one, Kaz would often spend a lot of time trying to find something to wear. Some might have said that was a waste of time, but Kaz always liked to make sure he was dressed in the perfect outfit.

To make things a little easier for himself, the magistocrat put on a pair of black dress pants as those would go with any colour. This way, Kaz could completely focus on deciding which shirt he wanted without the added stress of making sure his pants fit with it as well. It was tough being such an elegant and well-dressed gentleman.

Kaz tried on numerous silk shirts that came in a variety of different colours. The problem was that they all looked good on him. He wished that he could somehow wear all of them at once or that his magistocratic powers would allow him to magically switch to a different shirt whenever he pleased. However, neither of those was a realistic option, so Kaz would simply have to choose one of the silk shirts out of his collection.

“Sir, far be it from me to force your hand in your delicate decision-making process, but I would like to remind you that it is getting close to the time at which you agreed to meet your friends,” Charles the mecha-butler stated.

“Yes, I am fully aware, Charles. But they won’t mind if I am a little fashionably late,” Kaz replied. It was not the first time that he had been late in meeting up with his friends due to taking a long time to choose the perfect outfit for the occasion. The magistocrat then sighed. Why did selecting the right attire have to be so difficult? He then thought of something. “Hmm, maybe if I did it by process of elimination,” Kaz said to himself.

Kaz tried on a black silk shirt and looked at himself in the mirror. “Eh, I think I’ll save this for one of my more melancholic days,” the magistocrat stated as he looked at his reflection. The black shirt with black pants reminded him of Professor Muhly and Kaz was just not feeling it. After that, Kaz tried a white silk shirt, but it just looked like part of his usual attire. He wanted something different. Kaz then put on a pink silk shirt that matched the colour of his hair. The magistocrat had always thought that shirt was made just for him. However, he had already worn that colour when hanging out with Lexy and Gottlieb and Kaz didn’t like fashion retreads. The purple silk shirt reminded the magistocrat of Arcangelo, so that one was a no go. Eventually, Kaz had managed to narrow things down to just a few colours.

Now came the hard part. Kaz had to make a final decision from the silk shirts that remained. He tried on each of them one more time to see how they looked. After some consideration, Kaz eventually settled on a silver-blue silk dress shirt for his outfit.

“This is the one,” the magistocrat declared as gazed at his reflection and admired his appearance.

“Wonderful, sir. Then I will return the rest of these shirts to your closet,” Charles stated and then proceeded to do so. A moment later, the mecha-butler poked his head out the closet doorway. “Oh sir, while I am in here, did you want to add a tie to your outfit or not bother?” Charles asked.

Kaz looked at his reflection in the mirror for a moment before burying his face in his hands. He had just resolved a major dilemma and now he was faced with a new one.

Notes:

There are a couple of references to other stories I've written with the colours of the silk shirts. The pink one is a reference to A Pink Silk Shirt (which can be found in an earlier chapter) and the silver-blue one is a reference to Smooth As Silk (which can be found in the story collection How Can I Be Neo Yokio's Number One Bachelor When My Outfits Keep Getting Ruined?!), perhaps to make up for the one that was destroyed in that story.

Every odd-numbered chapter seems to be silk-shirt-related. What can I say? I have a thing for silk dress shirts and I like writing about characters wearing them. Kaz Kaan is a frequent go-to for the subject.
