Chapter Four

Summary:

A take on Kokichi's thoughts during chapter four.

Work Text:

That nasty good for nothing bitch Miu is going to kill him.

Well, try to kill him.

For an inventor she surely ranks to the very top of any leader board for absolute stupidity. Guess being fucked dumb would do that to a person. But really, she practically admitted to Kokichi’s face what she was trying to do.

Oh, hey let’s meet up super suspiciously in this virtual world that I crafted specifically to kill someone!

God! As if!

She’s not killing him because Kokichi has far too much to do. Afterall, he has a killing game to win!

A killing game that hosted at the end of the world. Where the last survivors of humanity have been killing each other over and over again. That’s a lie of course. And he doesn’t hope it, he knows it.

And dying is losing and Kokichi refuses to lose.

He needs to plan, Miu… Miu has to go. She’s already made everything that he ask, keeping her around would be pointless.

Illogical.

There is only room left for logic in a killing game.

And fun, Kokichi reminds himself, a game is fun. Even if it includes killing.

No, it’s fun because the killing. And some killing will be done.

He really doubts that that he can trick Miu into offing herself. Kaito and Maki, even if the killer girl is perfect for killing, would never go along with his plan. Keebo is suspicious as hell. Himiko is useless. Shuichi needs to be kept alive for any future use, in fact, this might be a good chance to see how far he’s willing to go.

That would leave…

He’s forgetting someone, right? Because Gonta is useful, a loyal minion that listens to him. Just like Shuichi, he has later use.

Tsumugi! He forgot Tsumugi again. But still, she’s even more useless than Himiko. He brushes her off without another thought.

Forget who needs to be the blackened. First work out a plan.

It has to be in the virtual world, a layout that he knows nothing about. The only thing he managed to pull up in the mess of code was the item list. Miu said she has removed anything dangerous mostly true, except a hammer that he expects her to slam his head in with.

He also knows that Miu must already have a plan in place. A measure that won’t allow Kokichi to resist and that brain of hers will set her up with an alibi. A way to get away with any crime she’d ever commit. But oops! She chose to murder him.

He can’t break the hammer, because Miu made everything unbreakable. Another way to reassure him that it’s safe but just another death sentence for him. At least no brains or bone to be splattered out of his-

Everything is unbreakable. Everything from a brick to the strands of hair on every avatars’ head. There was toilet paper on the list of objects.

That is so fucking funny.

And dirty irony for a dirty whore who gets wet from any basic ass insult.

Kokichi supposes he could try to find something heavy and return the favor she’s giving him. But why should he. She’s trying to kill him, a backstabber through and through, a pawn to be thrown away.

He trusted her and-

He’ll ask Monokuma to put a flashback light in the simulation. That, or he kidnaps and drags someone all the way through the death road of despair. He’d rather not.
That still is only Gonta.

Gonta is kind in a sense that he’d take on any burden without hesitation. Even if it means living in a horrible isolation after mercy killing everyone.
Would that be better?

No, no. Don’t be stupid.

Kokichi needs to win.

It would be easy enough to drag Gonta away after getting the virtual world. Maybe even easier than the real one. As real as you can call whatever lie everyone is living.

Gonta’s useful but it’s by time that Kokichi sticks with a concrete plan and Miu choosing to kill, shines a light on which one is the right one. What he’s doing is cruel, entertaining, and fun. Perfect to win by becoming the mastermind the real one could never be.

Gonta is too trusting.

He’ll still believe the best in Kokichi in a way that Kaito would never. He’ll question and just be a general nuisance in Kokichi’s way.

He’s not useful after that point.

Gonta is not useful.

The most use that Gonta could even think of for himself is getting himself killed by the Exisals. Kokichi will be giving a use to someone who doesn’t have one.
Because Gonta is useless.

Useless. Pointless. Lackluster. Worthless. Stupid. Trusting. Kind. Selfless.

It’d be illogical.

Gonta and Miu will die, and everyone will hate Kokichi.

It will be fun.

-

Kokichi was right. It was easy to lure Gonta away.

Easy to offhandedly mention how annoying it’d be to be watch. And Gonta took the bait easy. Just brush off Kokichi’s real intentions with a bodyguard comment.

It was easy to pull Gonta to the woods where a virtual flashback light sat in the virtual snow. It was easy to convince Gonta to check if it was a trap.

And it was horribly easy to convince him of murder.

It’s the right thing to do, this will save everyone. Here’s the plan Gonta, just listen to me and everything will be fine.

He turns away when the deed is done, going over the door to keep it shut is the excuse he uses. All while reassuring Gonta that there is no need to apologize.

They are doing the right thing.

In the end, when he wins, Kokichi will have done something right.

Not that Miu, or Gonta, or anyone else will reap the reward. But 16 measly students don’t matter in the long run. They don’t matter.

It’s less easy to throw Gonta under the bus when the time comes. Kokichi was expecting that Gonta in his stupidity and good heartedness would say something incriminating. But all that happens is Gonta acting confused by the virtual world and Kokichi being the one to show everyone the truth.

Ironic, but what isn’t?

It gets even harder when Gonta denies everything. Kokichi knows. Gonta knows. This trial should be over already and yet the cameras are still rolling. Why won’t Gonta admit it? Is he more calculative than Kokichi realized? Pulling Kokichi right down with him under the wheels of everyone’s suspicion?

But the way he’s acting just isn’t right. Because Kokichi knows what a liar is like and Gonta has never been one. And when Shuichi beckons the truth from hiding, warping wires in Kokichi’s gut come out as well.

But the rest of the trial is carried out as easy as it should. Talking Shuichi’s hand and letting him pull everyone along in a leader’s place, even if Kaito votes for him in the end.

And once it’s all over, it’s all out of Kokichi’s control and only temporarily back to Monokuma’s.

He still lies. He lies and lies and lies because who would he be if he didn’t? And it’s a gift for Gonta, something sweet, that Kokichi was trying to do something right.

Even Gonta asks for Kokichi to lie, to try to be friends with who’s remaining. Kokichi promises.

And even with all this lying the tears burn oddly like as if they’re real.

Gonta is killed by wasps and some abomination of incest. And Kokichi wonders why Monokuma didn’t use bees because bees make honey which is sweet.

And everyone is still trying to understand and try to find a truth that doesn’t exist. Not when there is an audience, cameras, and flashback lights that give them truth just as real as what Kokichi and Gonta saw of the outside world.

There is nothing left except for another lie.

And Kokichi will always oblige a lie.
