You hummed as you stirred the small pot that held the bubbling liquid, glancing behind you to see your son playing with a wooden dragon. It had been made by some of Bilbo's friends, and it was Frodo's favorite by far. You jolted when you felt hands wrap around you, but you relaxed as you realized it was Bilbo.
"Why don't you take a break, love? I can look after that, and you can finish that book that you have been reading before the visitors arrive. You won't have any peace to read then." He smirked and let go of you, and you handed him the scoop and kissed his cheek.
"When did they say they would be here?" You asked and glanced outside. It had been raining the whole day, but now as the sun was starting to set, the clouds had cleared and there was a warm glow in the light.
"They should be here any minute. Why don't you go and hide the few barrels of good wine we have, I don't want them to drink all of it. If last time is of any cue, they will eat and drink everything in the house." You let out a soft laugh at his slightly bitter tone and walked to the chair you usually read in.
Before you could open your book and relax, you could hear voices from the door. All three of you looked up, and Bilbo smiled.
"They are here." Then, the door opened, and before neither you, Bilbo or any of your visitors could react, Frodo had jumped to his feet and sprinted out the front door.
"Frodo!" You yelled, jumping up from the comfort of the chair. It had been raining all day, and you had kept Frodo inside so he wouldn't get wet and catch a cold, but also because he loved playing in the mud. You and Bilbo exchanged glances before you hurried towards the door.
"Good evening- Pardon me- Coming through-. " You threaded through the group of dwarves that was standing in front of the door. As you made it out, the grass was wet under your feet as you glanced around and caught a glimpse of Frodo's yellow vest disappearing behind a corner.
"Frodo Baggins, come here right this instant!" You yelled and gathered your hem in your hands and sprinted after him.

Bilbo received quite a few looks from Balin, Dwalin, Dori, Nori, and Ori.
"You have a son?" Balin asked, and Bilbo nodded.
"Yes. Well, we took him in after his parent's died, but yes he is our son." The group nodded, and Dori asked with a warm smile.
"And who is this lovely lady who you are living with?" Bilbo blushed slightly and looked around. It was not hard to figure out that a woman lived there as well. There were vases of flowers here and there and the curtains hanging from the curtain rail matched the tablecloths. Bilbo had kept his house in good order, but it was clear that the place had gotten a bit of a woman's touch.
"Oh, Y/N. We have always liked each other but we never acted upon it until I returned. I think both of us realized that life is too short to waste in futile yearning, and we got married only a month after I returned." The dwarves raised an eyebrow at this, and Bilbo hurried to get the conversation away from the topic as it made him uncomfortable.
"How about we get some tea?"
Bilbo had just managed to get the tea to the table along with some biscuits when the door opened and more dwarves walked in.
"Oh, Bofur, Bombur, Bifur. It's good to see you again! Please, sit and have some tea." Bilbo welcomed them inside, and they joined the others and started catching up with them. Bilbo didn't want to intrude, so he picked a few of Frodo's toys off the floor and placed them into the small basket that was meant for them. Bofur noticed that and he smiled as he recognized the dragon in Bilbo's hand.
"I was worried that the package might not reach you but I'm thrilled that it did." Bilbo glanced at the dragon on his hand and smiled.
"Oh, I never got the change to write to you and say thank you. Frodo loves it, I have never seen him so excited about any other toy." Bofur's waved his hand in the air dismissively.
"It was my pleasure. The best thanks a toymaker can get is when a child truly loves their toy."
Bilbo opened his mouth to answer but the door opened and a small figure zoomed inside, colliding with Biblo's legs.
"There were frogs outside, Bilbo! They were huge! I would have brought you one but Y/N said no." Frodo pouted for a moment before he perked up again.
"I saw the stream, there was so much water in it!" Bilbo tensed. The stream led to the lake, the one Frodo's parents had drowned in.
"Frodo, we have talked about going to the stream. It's dangerous." You noted, your hands on your hips and Frodo's shoulders slumped.
"I know, I just wanted to see how much water there was, it has been raining for so long..." Frodo's voice trailed off as he noticed the dwarves sitting around the table, and he quickly hid behind your legs and buried his face in your dress.
All the dwarves observed the situation now, and you gently pushed Frodo forward, encouraging him to step out behind your legs. He glanced from the dwarves to you and then to Bilbo, who gave him a nod. Frodo took a step towards, but he still seemed highly hesitant, so Bilbo scooped him up. This made Frodo relax slightly, and he peeked at the dwarves from behind Bilbo's head. Bofur smiled at him, and maybe because of his generally friendly demeanor, Frodo gave a small smile and wave back.
"Hi." He whispered, and Bofur responded immediately.
"Hello."
You stood next to Bilbo, watching Frodo talk his head off to Bofur, who was listening intently. You had never seen Frodo this talkative before, he was usually very quiet and shy. But now, he was going on and on about how much he liked his dragons. Bofur just gifted him another one, and Frodo, of course, loved it.
All the other dwarves were watching them intently while they ate. "Bilbo told the truth, they did empty the entire pantry." You thought, and watched (slightly irritated) as they ate all the food you had prepared, leaving you nothing. Bilbo leaned a little closer to your ear.
"Don't worry, I hid us some seed cakes under our bed so we won't starve." You smiled at him and gave him a quick kiss, causing Frodo to gag.
"Ewwwwww!" You, Bilbo and the dwarves laughed as the little hobbit twisted his face in disgust.
