The Battle for Hateno

Summary:

Link and the Champions of Hyrule must come together to defeat the Golden Lynel and its horde of monsters before they lay waste to Hateno Village. Will they make it in time? And will Link be able to hold them off until they arrive?

Notes:

This is something that I imagined after hearing the Avengers Endgame "Portals" soundtrack and reading Ebony McCloud's fanfic of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game over on FF.net. I thought this really fit 'cause it's super cool! One-shot only, but if you wanna try and turn this into an actual story, PM me!

Work Text:

Link stood in front of the west gate to Hateno Village, bruised and bloodied, his last potion already used up. He looked back at the villagers, gazing at him with hope that was slowly turning to fear in their eyes. He was already exhausted from fighting previous waves of the hordes and anyone could see that, Champion of Hyrule or not, he was on his last legs...

But he would not falter. He would fight to his last breath to protect their innocent lives from these evil creatures. Glaring up at the Golden Lynel leading the monstrous horde, he reached down and, with a sharp tug, tightened the strap securing the Hylian Shield to his arm before picking up the Master Sword from where it was embedded in the ground and stumbled forward to meet the leering monsters. As he prepared for what might be his last fight, he could hear someone call his name and looked back to see Impa with Paya and a few other Sheikah running up after warping to Hateno's shrine. Paya meets his eyes and answers his unspoken question with a nod of her head.

All at once, he feels a low rumbling, rushing roar tremor through the earth. Looking past the twisted and confused faces of the monsters towards the Dueling Peaks, he could see billowing dust clouds and great splashes of water approaching and surrounding the army of vile monsters. As the first party became visible, Link smiled in relief.

From the south, leading his troops into a leap out of Lake Jarrah, Lightscale Trident in hand, Prince Sidon flashed Link one of his toothy, confident smiles before turning back as the other Zoras moved into position at the monsters' southern flank. Among them he could see the members of the Bazz Brigade standing ready. Armed with their Zora and Silverscale Spears and garbed in their silvery armor, the race of marine warriors were awe-inspiring.

Rolling up to the Ovli Plains, an avalanche of Gorons crashed in to block off the monsters' northern retreat. What was surprising of all was that Yunobo was leading the charge. Link was proud of him, as he could see how difficult this was for the normally timid Goron. With their tremendous strength and thick skin, few Gorons felt the need for any kind of weaponry or protection, although he could see a few Cobble Crushers and Stone Smashers among the hulking, fearsome warriors.

Overhead, squadrons of Rito soared in and settled between Link and the village gates, tossing the bows to their wings as they landed, ready to launch volleys of arrows. At their front, Teba found Link's eye and gave a short nod before turning back to the monsters. As the race most accustomed to long-range combat, the Rito had come armed with as many Falcon Bows and various kinds of arrows as they could. With their piercing gazes, sharp features, and unerring accuracy with the bow, you could be forgiven for believing the rumor that a Rito archer could kill you with a look as easily as shoot you.

At the front of each race, a squad of Sheikah ninja warriors stood at the ready, having guided the different groups to where the battle was taking place, nearly matching the monsters' might in numbers. Covered head to toe in their purple and grey uniforms and armed with their Eightfold Blades, Mind's Eye Shields, and Phrenic Bows, the Sheikah were a sight to behold.

Spirits bolstered, Link turned to Impa and asked, "What about the Gerudo?"

She snorted, "Be patient; they had the most difficult journey having to travel further south to escape Calamity Ganon's notice."

Link turned back, and from the west again he sees a force of dark women on horseback arriving to take their place at the western edge of the army; it was the Gerudo warriors, with Riju and Buliara at their head, and the Sheikah squad with them was lead by Dorian. With the rising dust and the light reflecting off their golden armor, the warrior women of the desert gave the appearance of arriving in a storm of lightning.

With the arrival of the Gerudo, all the races began yelling out their war cries, the sound warping and turning into a thunderous roar. The monsters began to show signs of fear and backed up a step, but the Golden Lynel growled them into submission before turning and roaring back at the assembled forces in front of him. Link raised the Master Sword high above his head. "People of Hyrule!" he shouted, before lowering his sword to point at the Lynel's army. "ATTACK!" As one, united once again against a common foe, the warriors of this age and the old charged to destroy the monsters. The Lynel roared even louder than before and reared before launching itself to meet its foes and spill their blood. In a few moments, they would clash in a battle for the fate of the land...
