Work Text:

Jason had been working hard to improve his relationships with his family recently. He was even starting to get close with Bruce again, although the man was currently out of the country on a business trip- not Bat related for once, surprisingly.

After all of the mess that happened with his return, he was finally feeling like he could start being part of the family again.

It was why he agreed to the mission in the first place. Bonding time with his siblings over their shared interest in taking out bad guys.

And of course there was the added benefit of being able to take out the drug ring that had been spreading to Gotham from the surrounding cities.

But a little bad intel and suddenly the whole operation had fallen apart.

All of them had come out of it alive, but not one had made it out unscathed. Least of all Jason.

Although the others had gotten away with bruises and some superficial cuts and scrapes, meanwhile Jason had gotten a lucky hit to the leg with a metal bat.

His attacker definitely had ended up worse off after that, and while it made him feel a little better, it didn’t make his leg any less broken.

Getting back to the Batcave was a massive pain, literally, but they couldn’t just stay out here in the middle of the city.

Alfred reset the bone back at the cave, but it was a nasty break. While the cast didn’t cover his knee, it was close enough to somewhat limit mobility.

After he was finished in the medbay, he got himself up to the library, slowly but surely. Everyone else seemed to have left to do their own post-mission recovery things.

By the time he got comfortable on the couch, foot elevated on a pillow on the table he was exhausted.

Dick wandered in just before Jason was about to nod off, and he remembered something important.

“C’n you call Roy? Gotta check ‘n. Tell ‘m I’m okay.” Jason said, already half asleep.

“Sure thing, Jay.” He heard Dick reply softly. He felt as Dick draped a blanket across his lap before he finally passed out.

When Jason woke up, the first thing he noticed was how warm he was. Then how much his leg hurt.

With that, he was awake again. He looked around the seating area in the library where he had ended up the night before. It seemed no one had wanted to move him. Or were able to.

His siblings must have decided that it was a comfortable enough room, because some of them were lounging around the room in varying degrees of wakefulness.

He noticed Cass and Steph sitting on the love seat and Damian (surprisingly) on one of the armchairs around the room.

Just then, Dick came into the room, talking to someone who was still in the hall. The voice sounded familiar, he realized as his brain sluggishly began to power back on.

“Where’s Jay?” The voice said. “I just want to see him. Make sure he’s really okay.”

Jason turned towards the door as it opened and in walked Roy Harper. Trailing along behind him was six-year-old Lian. When she spotted him, she lit up, then took off running towards him at full speed.

“Papa!” She shouted.

“Hey, pumpkin!” Jason beamed as he caught her before she could barrel right into his freshly broken leg.

The kid was adorable, but Jason really didn’t want to deal with the cast for longer than necessary.

Lian cuddled right up to Jason, curling against his chest as soon as she was set in his lap. Jason held her close with an arm wrapped around her back.

Dick and Roy calmly walked over towards the others, but stayed standing next to the couch.

“We missed you!” Lian whispered once she was settled in his lap.

“What was that all about?” Somebody asked.

Jason looked over to see Tim on the adjacent couch, looking over at him inquiringly.

“What do you mean?” Jason replied. He didn’t think they’d done anything that was particularly out of the ordinary for them…

He looked around at his other siblings, curious if the rest of them had thought anything was odd as well. They all seemed to have an inquisitive look on their faces.

Except Cass, of course. She seemed to understand. Or she didn’t think it was that big of a deal. It was hard to tell, with her.

“The ‘Papa’ thing” Tim clarified.

Jason raised his eyebrows in shock. That was their issue? What did that matter?

“Roy and I have been raising Lian since she came to live with him.” He said, baffled. ”Which was a little bit after we started living together.” He added on after a moment.

“What do you mean? We’ve been to your apartment, you live alone.” Dick said.

“Yeah, my safe house apartment. Not our actual apartment.” He said. The cat was already out of the bag, might as well tell them now.

“Huh. I never would have thought.” Dick said, mostly to himself.

“So, but- why does she call papa? I’m still confused.” Tim asked again.

“Yeah, I’m gonna second that.” Steph added from her seat.

Damian remained quiet, watching with confusion, but he seemed content to simply watch the scene play out.

“Well, that’s kinda what happens when you’re raising a kid together…” Roy piped up from where he was standing near the couch.

Dick went to join Tim on the other couch,

Probably needing to sit down so he could process better.

“Yeah but, why would you be raising her together? ” Tim emphasised.

Jason shot him a deadpan look. Some detectives they were, huh?

“Roy’s my husband. We've been married for years.” The bomb finally dropped.

What?! ” Came the multiple shocked cries.

“Did you guys seriously not already know? I call him my partner all of the time! It wasn’t like I was hiding it!” Jason said incredulously.

Somehow, Jason had thought they were just being kind enough to never make things awkward by bringing it up. Now he could see how oblivious they had been.

“We thought you meant, like, partners in crime!” Dick exclaimed.

“Why can't we be both?” Roy said.

“Dick, you’ve seen us kissing before! How did you not put it together?” Jason asked.

Sure the man could be pretty oblivious sometimes, but surely he at least considered the possibility.

“What does that have to do with anything?” Dick shot back “Wally and I kiss each other all of the time! That’s just what best friends do .”

There were several more loud exclamations of disbelief.

Apparently he was that oblivious. Roy came and sat down next to Jason as his siblings began a shouting match.

“How are you feeling?” Roy whispered in his ear over the cacophony around them. He leaned into his side. Jason wrapped his other arm around Roy’s shoulders.

“Better now that you’re here.” Jason replied.

And it was true. Sure his leg still hurt a lot, but here, with his husband and daughter in his arms, and his siblings all around- Jason couldn’t be happier.

Notes:

So, this came to me randomly and I simply had to write it immediately. I didn’t intend for Dick to be in a relationship with Wally unknowingly, but he’s just like that, I guess.

Anyway, I thought it was cute, so let me know if you enjoyed it!
