Work Text:
Pages scattered on the floor, most were darkened with spots of red, as for others were scribbled onto, as if every masterpiece was to represent the mind of a true psychopath. Though most psychiatrists Beyond have met with were within psych wards. His life was surrounded with nothing but psychology appointments and medication to maintain his murderous urges to give the one he loathes most another case that could be unsolvable. It was a shame that during the process of his crimes, L was already aware of who was behind it all, hence Naomi Misora’s involvement.
L was always too cowardly to face his faults, the faults of those he had ruined and destroyed.
Beyond paused upon the pages, his eyes caught a piece that stood out more than the others. A poem, one that he has always favored.
"For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams / Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes / Of the beautiful Annabel Lee."
A low chuckle slipped from his throat. The words were written in a neat cursive, it was familiar, yet his emotions were no longer connected with the memory. Nowadays, his early memories of the orphanage were static plastered on a television screen with the eerie sounds of its white noise.
Beyond looked out the window, his eyes looked outward, meeting the dreary midnight landscape. Oh, how he longed to get away from where he started, how cruel it was of L to bring him back to his home, and now he stayed in that very room where it all began. He knew that L was informed of how damaging this could be to a human’s mental state, which was exactly why he was put into this room filled with exquisite death.
Nevertheless, Beyond Birthday isn’t human, nor was he ever seen as such by the eyes of his mentor.
Humanity is a wondrous topic. Filled with evolution and cruelty. Nothing truly made someone ‘human,’ that, to Beyond Birthday, was a societal construct. It is what kept drawing Beyond to L, and to the beautiful Annabel Lee.
Beyond felt the urge to leave his room, to go against L’s own morality and wishes. Once he had turned the doorknob and left the darkened room that once lived, he was met with a long and hollow hallway. The murderous man had one goal in mind, to find the beautiful Annabel Lee and to tear into his internal body.
The common room was dark, the feeling was lifeless to the core. Annabel Lee had never contained the energy of the sun. The sun is energetic and lifted the mood to everybody in the room, even if no one was present. It was a gift that only one successor could have the joy of possessing, before his eyes were truly opened to the exanimate world of L.
Beyond looked towards the arched window, and there stood Annabel Lee.
Moonlight illuminated his face, as he stared out the window full of space. The ever so slight freckles on his cheeks represented an angel's kiss.
Beyond dared to walk towards the winsome boy, to break the barriers once put onto him by his mentor.
Annabel Lee looked as exquisite as always, his pale complexion and feminine physique represented an angel itself in Beyond’s eyes. An angel waiting to be corrupted by a system of labefaction.
Beyond stood there creepily. His reddened eyes widened like a wolf at its prey, the containment of a disgusting creature ready to devour the poor little white rabbit.
Not a word had been spoken between the two, not even when the predator gets uncomfortably close to the prey’s personal space. Beyond’s hand reaches to the poor successor’s face, his mortal hands can feel and touch the soft and white hair that Annabel barely cared for.
When he kisses him, he thinks about gnawing his face off clean. How his blood would pool inside of his mouth, and his ears ringing with curdled screams of agony. Instead, Beyond placed his lips underneath the faint freckles underneath Near’s left eye.
Beyond is a very patient man at heart, however, his sadistic mind could hardly wait to feel how his actions affected the body of L’s successor.
