Chapter 1: No simple ask, an Addams ask.
Chapter Text
The end of the year was approaching, and that made Wednesday pace around her side of the room anxiously. Not that she would ever admit that, for Wednesday was never anxious, especially not because of feelings for a certain blonde werewolf, no. She knew it was only a matter of time before she got a (crystal ball) call from her parents to talk about it. Winter break was only a month and a half from now, and she was sure her parents would try to sync with it, so preparations must start soon.
She sat by her typewriter to try and focus on something else, but detested every sentence she tried to write. She tried to read one of her books, but the only one she hadn’t finished was a guide to lycanthropian behavior. She grabbed her cello but none of the songs made her feel better.
That’s why three days later she almost knocked her crystal ball on the floor with how quickly she flung herself towards it to catch her parents’ call.
“Mother, father. What is this call about?” She didn’t wait a second before asking.
“Oh, are you busy, my little stingray? We can call later-” Gomez started, but was interrupted by his daughter’s raise of voice.
“NO!” Upon seeing the shocked faces of her parents, Wednesday cleared her throat and straightened her back. “I’m sorry, I only mean to satiate my fleeting curiosity at once.” Morticia nodded slowly, still a bit confused.
“Right. Well, we wanted to tell you that preparations for our annual Addams Winter Ball have commenced.” Morticia smiled and Wednesday’s pupils dilated. Finally! Gomez was beaming with excitement.
“That’s right! And we made sure it would take place during your vacation from Nevermore.” Bingo. Her parents were the worst.
“Is that so? You really are the most detestable parents a psychopath could ask for.” Morticia cooed and Gomez put a hand on top of where his heart supposedly was.
“Oh, thank you, my deadly jellyfish.” Then her mother continued.
“We weren’t sure how you’d take the news.”
“I’m dreading spending the night talking to Cousin It, I bet he has some gruesome stories to share.” The older witch smiled.
“Oh, me too!”
“And I’m sure my dear brother is gonna make a catastrophic entrance!” Wednesday felt the corner of her lips twitch at the mention of Uncle Fester, she had a special place for him in her torture rituals.
After a beat, the girl continued.
“And do you think Uncle Fester is gonna bring that serial killer he met in prison? That is, if the companion rule is still in appliance.” Wednesday was sure she had been as sneaky as possible, but her parents exchanged a knowing look.
“Why I hope so, I’m dying to meet her.” Morticia spoke. “Which reminds me, you are to bring one of your Nevermore colleagues, if that’s your wish. Everyone is welcome at the Addams household.” Gomez smiled widely and Wednesday tried to keep her face stoic.
“I shall think about it, Mother. Anything else I should be aware of?”
“I don’t think so, my rain cloud. You’re free to go torture your friends.” Wednesday nodded once and then hung up.
Wednesday got up from her seat and started pacing around the room once more. The easy part was done, which meant the hard one was up. She glanced at the nauseating bundle of color that was her roommate’s side and gulped. How was she gonna ask the overtly-cheerful werewolf to be her date to the Addams Ball?
Wednesday slumped down on her bed, still looking at Enid’s horrendous decorations. Wednesday realized she felt things for her roommate back when Enid moved in with Yoko. Normally she cherished being alone like nothing else, but with Enid’s absence she felt a hole inside her chest she had never felt before. She found herself feeling frustrated and annoyed whenever she realized the blonde wasn’t around and wouldn’t be, and upon further research, came to the conclusion that she missed the girl.
After that, when Enid came back, she felt herself twice as attached to the girl, and found out she most likely longed for her company. The final proof came after they defeated Crackstone and Thornhill. When Wednesday let herself hug Enid and be hugged, the final piece clicked. Enid’s embrace was so comforting, so right that she knew she no longer had to keep her walls up around the girl. She knew her heart belonged to Enid.
But she wasn’t nearly as sure about Enid’s heart. She would take care of it like her parents took care of each other’s, but did Enid want her to do that? She was way too familiar with the blonde’s infatuation with the gorgon boy, which was the biggest proof Enid wasn’t interested in her. But Wednesday was rather stubborn, so she would go after the answer before losing all hope.
She just wasn’t counting on Enid entering their room at that exact moment.
“Hey, Willa! How was your day?” The blonde threw herself on her bed as Wednesday tried to compose her thoughts.
“G-good. My parents called.” Enid propped herself on her elbows at that.
“Oh, is that so? How are they?”
“Fine. Disgustingly affectionate as always.” Enid chuckled at that and let her fall back on the bed. “What about yours?” The goth had been making a point of showing interest in the girl’s life.
“Good, too. Yoko and I went shopping, you know how much I like that.”
“I do and don’t comprehend it.” Enid giggled, and then started scrolling through her phone.
Wednesday was still sitting on her bed as she tried to organize her thoughts. Enid hadn’t mentioned Ajax in quite a while, and the doubt was eating her from the inside, so she chose to use bluntness to hide her true intentions.
“Enid, are you and Ajax still together?” The fact that the same 15 seconds of an obnoxiously bubbly song had repeated itself four times told the goth Enid was thinking. The blonde then let out an uncomfortable chuckle.
“Right to the point, huh, Wedn.”
The goth gulped, thinking that maybe she had crossed a line.
“It’s just that you haven’t mentioned him in a while and I thought it better to simply ask you.” Enid nodded at her.
“Makes sense.” She took a deep breath. “No, we’re not together anymore. We decided we’re better off as just friends.” Wednesday felt like she was dealing with a wild tasmanian devil inside her with such news.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.”
Enid shrugged.
“No, it’s okay, it was a mutual decision.” After a beat, Wednesday continued.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Enid took another deep breath and turned to face the goth.
“I didn’t think you’d be interested.”
“I’m always interested in you, Enid.” The Addams face was soft, but in a way only Enid was able to tell apart. The blonde smiled at that.
“That was very sweet, Wednesday. Are you going soft on me?” The ravenette scoffed and turned around to hide the blush adorning her dead cheeks, and Enid giggled happily.
As usual, Wednesday was still awake after Enid had fallen asleep with light snores. She often couldn’t turn her mind off of whatever issue plagued her, and at that moment it was her roommate. Things were looking up for Wednesday, but it was still a long way from being single to being romantically interested in the goth. She tossed and turned as the infuriating “what ifs” baraged her.
The next day, she went out into the woods in search of her favorite tortured artist. She knocked on his atelier door and a few seconds later, there the boy was.
“Hey, Wednesday. What’s up?” She fidgeted with her hands - something she despised doing - as she stepped inside the room.
“I came to talk to you about… matters of the heart.” He raised an eyebrow in utter confusion.
“What?”
She let out the breath she was holding and forced her hands to stay still.
“I need advice.” He nodded slowly. “Regarding asking someone to a dance.” He raised the same eyebrow as before.
“But we don’t- we don’t have any upcoming dances, Wednesday. We don’t have end of semester d-dances.” He felt very lost in the subject.
“It’s not Nevermore related, it’s Addams family related.” The other brow joined the first one in understanding.
“Oh. Well, normally one person goes up to the other person,” Wednesday nodded along, “and get this, says: ‘would you like to go to the dance with me?’” He mocked her and Wednesday glared at the boy.
“This is a serious matter, Xavier. I don’t have time to play around.” He chuckled and shrugged.
“I’m being serious, there’s no big secret, Wednesday.”
She huffed in frustration.
“But that’s when the stakes aren’t high. When rejection is an acceptable possible outcome. This isn’t the case.” He frowned at her words.
“Why is this so important? And who’s this person anyway?” Wednesday looked at the ground and took a deep breath.
“ Because , if she says no then I’ll have to stare my humiliation in the face every. Single. Day.” His face relaxed in a knowing expression.
“Enid.”
“Yes.”
“Okay. We can figure this out.”
“If there’s a chance she’ll say no, I'd rather never ask the question.” Xavier rolled his eyes at the goth.
“You’re always so dramatic.” Wednesday frowned angrily.
“She’s important. I would rather have Enid in my life as nothing but a friend than not have her, understand me, Xavier?” He gulped and nodded.
“Yeah, yeah. Okay, I’m sorry.” He thought for a moment before continuing. “I can try to find out if someone knows if she likes you, how about it?” Wednesday tilted her chin up.
“Interesting. I like that. Do it.” He nodded. “I have a crystal ball call to make now. See you around.” And with that, she left.
“Mother.”
“Hello, my darling.”
“I need to speak with father.” At that, a voice came from off-screen.
“I’m here, my precious stonefish!” Wednesday sighed at her parents’ antics.
“Father, please exchange places with mother, I must talk to you.”
“Oh, but your mother can’t risk her deadly beauty by cleaning our Spanish Tickler collection.” Gomez answered, still nowhere to be seen, and Morticia batted her eyelids at him. Wednesday sighed again.
“Then, mother, please leave us be.” Morticia did the Addams equivalent of puppy eyes.
“But my darling daughter, we don’t keep secrets in this family.” Wednesday took a tired deep breath.
“Fine, you’re practically the same person anyway.” Morticia smiled. “Dad, how did you invite mom to your first ball?” The older witch melted at the question.
“Oh, it was positively horrible!” Wednesday rolled her eyes mentally, and her father’s face finally appeared on the screen.
“There’s nothing I rather do more than talk about Tish and I.” He took a deep breath with a lovestruck smile on his lips. “You see, I was infatuated with this goddess for a very long time, and I knew I had to kiss the very ground she walked on!” Wednesday scrunched up her face the slightest bit.
“I don’t bow for anyone.” The confession slipped her lips before she could stop it, and the surprised and then knowing expressions on her parents’ faces told her they saw the meaning behind it, making her sigh with what was about to come.
“Someone has caught the judgmental stare of our daughter, Gomez! How horrendous!” Morticia said excitedly and Gomez followed.
“Indeed, my love. Oh, how I waited for this moment!” Wednesday scoffed and closed her eyes in embarrassment.
“Stop this nonsense right this second. I’m merely gathering information.”
“Whatever you say, my darling.” Morticia still had a playful smile on. “Continue the story, Gomez.”
“Right, right.” Wednesday sighed again, this was taking longer than anticipated. “So what I did was show her how even the loudest thunder didn’t compare to her, how the world should bow to her.” Morticia smiled fondly at her man.
“Indeed. He gave me a bouquet of rose stems and my very own Black Widow.”
“How is Mary Elizabeth the 7th, by the way?” Wednesday asked and her mother extended her arm past the crystal ball. When she pulled it back, a small Black Widow spider was resting on top of it.
“Here she is, doing very well. Thank you for asking, Wednesday.” The girl nodded and Morticia continued. “But the greatest gift you have ever given me, mon cher,” she looked lovingly at Gomez and Wednesday felt like puking, “was a near-death experience.” They both bit their lips and closed their eyes in a blissful reminiscence that made Wednesday almost jump from her balcony. “If only you had gone through with it.”
“Cara mía, I’m so sorry, I just couldn’t keep my hands to myself. I didn’t mean to disturb the ritual.” Wednesday loudly cleared her throat, and her parents turned their attention back to her.
“Well, I feel like I have given Enid plenty of those.” Upon hearing the girl’s name, both parents widened their eyes, but Wednesday continued, not noticing the reaction. “Last time we ended up hugging. I thoroughly did not hate it.” Her parents’ eyes were about to pop out of their skulls.
“You hugged?” croaked out Morticia, followed by her lover.
“And she survived?” Wednesday nodded.
“I do not wish to see Enid dead just yet.”
“It’s the wolf, right?” Morticia inquired.
“That’s correct, she’s a werewolf.”
“The perfect maiming machine.” The older woman touched her neck as she spoke, and her daughter nodded once more.
“Exactly.”
“Oh, I’m so proud of you, my little storm cloud!” Wednesday couldn’t help but be filled with happiness at her parents’ approval. Ew, disgusting.
“You have yet to tell me how you asked mother to the dance.”
“Yes, right.” He looked adoringly at his wife and Wednesday eyed the dagger she had hidden under her desk. “Well, after courting her like the goddess she is, I wrote her a letter.”
“He told me nothing less visceral than his own blood as ink was worthy of me.” She batted her eyelashes at him. “Then asked if I would give him the honor of accompanying him to the Rave’N. I surely couldn’t resist his appeal.” The couple was about to kiss and that was one step too far for Wednesday, who cleared her throat as violently as she could.
“As disgusting to witness as this was, I thank you for the information. I must now go.” As she was about to turn the call off, Thing nudged her on the leg. “Thing says hi.”
“Tell the little fella- And she’s gone.”
“Oh, Gomez, I can’t believe Nevermore has yet again been responsible for the expansion of the Addams family!”
“Me neither, my Black Widow. My heart is exploding with happiness!”
Wednesday sat in her bed going through all the information her parents had given her. She did believe Enid was the most surreal being on earth, so she decided to copy her father, so she made her way to Thornhill’s old greenhouse. In no time she spotted the roses, and grabbed half a dozen of them.
She cut the flowers and buttons off, not being able to contain the giggle that escaped her throat as she imagined this was just like beheading in plant world. She wrapped them in black cellophane and went back to their room.
Around an hour and a half later, Enid finally entered the room.
“Hey, Wednesday! How was your day?” The goth tried to not draw attention to the bouquet just yet, as she got up from her bed.
“Unbearable, talked to my parents again.”
“You’ve been talking a lot these days. Is everything alright?”
“They’re just sentimental fools with nothing better to do than bother me.” Enid giggled at the girl, she was always amused by her eloquent cursing.
Then, Wednesday finally brought the bouquet from behind her, and Enid immediately saw it.
“Oh, what you got there, Wedn?” Overtaken with embarrassment, Wednesday simply extended the bundle of stems towards the blonde, while she looked away to hide her blush.
“I got these for you.”
The blonde was a little lost, but a second later realized what they were and grabbed the half-flowers.
“Oh, Wednesday, were these roses?” The goth still hadn’t dared to turn around.
“Y-yes.” Enid giggled once she realized this was probably how the Addams interpreted flowers.
“Why thank you, I love them.” She buried her face on the stems, more for show than anything, and then walked closer to Wednesday. “I wouldn't mind having the buttons as well, though.” She bent down and kissed Wednesday’s cheek. “For next time.” She then climbed on her bed, leaving a mortified goth behind.
Wednesday’s thoughts were jello now. Next time? Does this mean she wants me to continue courting her? She made her way back to her side, sitting at her typewriter and staring at it for god knows how long. Enid didn’t have the heart to tell her she could see she wasn’t typing anything.

The next day, right after lunch, Wednesday bumped into Xavier.
“Did you find out?” She inquired right away.
“Hello to you too.” Wednesday rolled her eyes.
“Did you or not?”
“So I went to talk to Bianca, so she could talk to Divina, who could ask Yoko.”
“Go on.”
“But I didn’t have to, because Bianca said she likes you.” Wednesday tilted her head to the side in curiosity.
“And how does she know? She doesn’t talk to Enid.”
“Yeah, well, she was adamant on it. Called me stupid for asking.” He rolled his eyes as he recalled.
“Well, then I guess it’s safe to continue courting her. If Bianca’s wrong though, we’ll have fish stew for dinner.” Xavier then raised an eyebrow.
“Did you even start to “court” her?” He did air quotes with his fingers.
“Yes. I gave her a bouquet of flowers.”
“Oh, that’s actually a pretty nice start.” If only he knew.
“Thank you, got the idea from my parents.”
Xavier smiled softly, he liked the pair.
“That’s definitely smart. They’re like the most in love people I’ve ever seen.” Wednesday rolled her eyes.
“Tell me about it.” She shuddered thinking about their romance.
“So, what are you gonna do next?”
“Well, my father did right a letter to my mother with his own blood,-”
“ Do not , I repeat, do not write a letter to Enid with your own blood, Merlina. ” Wednesday scrunched up her face.
“ Do not call me that if you don’t want to lose a limb.” He shrugged.
“It’s just so you know I mean it. Do not.”
“First of all, I have no idea why my dad’s family calls me that and I regret it profoundly to have ever told you, and secondly, I know. Enid can barely look at pictures with blood, imagine what would happen if she smelled it, or god forbid, touched it.”
“Good. But what are you gonna do instead?”
“Not sure yet.”
He sighed.
“Can’t you just ask her at once?”
She huffed at his lack of romance, which was even worse than hers.
“The more I get to know you, the more I realize the bullet Bianca dodged.” The boy scoffed at that.
“What, why?!”
“This is an important matter, I can’t just walk up to her and ask. That’s beyond lame, and honestly, something Ajax would do, and I refuse to be in the same league as him.” Xavier rolled his eyes.
“Whatever, do you want my help or not?”
“Be helpful and the answer will be yes.” He groaned in frustration.
“I’m trying!” He exclaimed.
“Try harder!” She shot back.
“I already gave you my opinion!”
Wednesday rolled her eyes. “It was a shit one!”
“Just fucking do it!”
“Fine!”
“Good!”
She stomped away to her dorm. God, that boy could be more infuriating than Pugsley. She started carving something on the floor, and Thing eyed her curiously. Then, she asked him to go get the gasoline, which he promptly did, and the girl filled the recently done grooves with it. She then waited patiently for her roommate to arrive.
After 40 minutes, Enid was back. And as soon as she stepped through the door, Wednesday lit a match and set her work ablaze.
Enid shrieked loudly and ran to the poor plant she kept by her bedside. She quickly dumped all the water from the vase, and then used the rest of her water bottle. Enid’s heart was loud in her ears.
“Wednesday, what the fuck were you doing setting our room on fire?!” The goth, in return, simply frowned at her ruined art. She got up and left the room, going straight to Xavier’s atelier, yelling from the outside.
“You imbecile, she didn’t even read it!” He opened the door in a haste, and Wednesday almost fell on her face.
“What did you do?”
“I carved ‘go to a ball w/ me: y or n?’ on our floor and set it on fire.” Xavier felt like ripping his hair out.
“Why the hell did you do that for?!” Wednesday scoffed at his tone.
“You told me to ask her, so I did. Just tried to make it more exciting.” He shook his head vigorously.
“I just wanted you to walk up to her and say the words ‘would you go to my family’s dance with me?’!”
“Then why didn’t you just say so?” His agitated self calmed down when he heard the question, realizing his mistake.
“I thought it was implicit.” She raised an eyebrow.
“You know that doesn’t work with me.” He looked at the ground embarrassed.
“I forgot.” The girl shook her head.
“You can’t just forget about my autism.” He nodded. “I almost set our dorm on fire.”
“You’re batshit crazy, Wednesday.”
“It’s part of my charm.” The boy chuckled at that.
“I sure hope so, otherwise you’ll kill her before you kiss her.”
After a beat, Wednesday spoke again.
“Okay, so what now?” Xavier sighed.
“Can’t you just please follow my idea and go talk to her, easy peasy?” Wednesday shook her head.
“No way. That’s way too boring, and Addams aren’t boring people.”
“Then I don’t know.” The both groaned.
A moment went by when suddenly there was a knock at the door. Xavier walked up to it and opened it, revealing a tiny figure.
“Eugene? What are you doing here?” Wednesday asked, and the boy shrugged.
“The bees said you were nearby, so I followed them. Is everything alright?”
He could feel the slightly tense atmosphere.
“Yeah. Just stuck in the middle of a quest.” She replied, and the boy perked up at that.
“Oh, can I help you?” She looked at Xavier, who only shrugged.
“What’s the harm? I wish to invite Enid to go to the traditional Addams Family Ball with me, as my partner. But I don’t know how.”
Xavier chuckled. “She almost set their room on fire trying.” Eugene widened his eyes.
“Wednesday!”
“ Xavier was the one who wasn’t clear in his message!”
The smaller boy shook his head.
“Did you try anything else?”
“I was trying to set the ground for it, so I gave her a bouquet of roses.” Eugene smiled and nodded in approval. “Without the actual flowers, of course.” His smile fell and Xavier rubbed his face in annoyance.
“You didn’t tell me you took out the flowers!” The artist protested and Wednesday scoffed.
“Why would anybody be interested in the flowers?!” Eugene couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but he should’ve expected something like this from an Addams.
“They’re the pretty part!” Xavier yelled back, and the younger boy stepped in the middle of the pair when he saw Wednesday reaching for the dagger in her boot.
“Okay, okay, you two, settle down. This is just a misunderstanding.” The two teenagers glared at each other. “Wednesday, your interpretation of the world is a little different than for the rest of us, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Better.” She simply huffed out, and Eugene begrudgingly nodded.
“Fine, better. So I suggest: think the opposite of what you’d like to get, and that’ll be Enid.” Wednesday tilted her chin up, pondering. Then, she turned to Xavier.
“A thirteen year old gives better advice than you. How miserable does that make you feel?” She raised an eyebrow in provocation and the boy jumped towards her, but once more Eugene got in the middle.
“Stop this!” He groaned. “Ugh, you look like two little kids that have the exact same personality and can’t get along!” Xavier stuck his tongue out and Wednesday gave him the finger, which made Eugene roll his eyes. “You come with me, Wednesday. You can think about what you’re gonna do while I take care of the bees.” He walked out the atelier, and the goth followed.
It didn’t take long for the girl to have the perfect ask planned.
She returned to the atelier just as the sun was setting down and handed Xavier a piece of paper with the instructions of what to do to help her.
“I can’t make music.”
“You can make a cello, and a cello can make music.” He raised his eyebrows in surprise for a second.
“Smart.”
“Incredibly so.” Agreed Wednesday, and Xavier rolled his eyes. “Is that all your comments?” He shrugged.
“Yeah. I’ll have it ready by sundown tomorrow.”
“Perfect.” She walked to the door, but turned around before leaving. “Thank you, Xavier.” He gave her a firm nod.
“Don’t worry about it.”
The next afternoon, as Enid stepped into her room, she found a letter on top of her bed. It was written with cut out letters from magazines, and she frowned playfully, remembering the shit-show of a party she threw for her roommate.
“What are you doing, Willa?” She asked aloud, to herself.
The letter simply read: That little nose of yours will tell you where to go.
Enid couldn’t help but chuckle when she realized it started with only black and white letters and halfway they turned into a colorful mess. Wednesday probably noticed midway what she was doing and changed to better match Enid. The blonde smiled fondly before putting her nose up and catching Wednesday’s faint smell and following it.
As the smell grew stronger, Enid noticed red roses’ petals adorning the ground. ( “What did you do with them, Wednesday?” “Threw them in Thornhill’s lab’s trash. They’re probably still there.” ) Her curiosity grew, and suddenly she found herself in a clearing. She could smell other people and objects, but decided to ignore it for the sake of the surprise.
Then, behind her a tune started to sound. She immediately turned around to find a life-sized painting of Wednesday. The girl was playing the cello, and Enid quickly picked up the melody to one of her favorite KPop songs, even if it was a darker rendition. It wasn’t the same painting Xavier had made before, although similar. This time Wednesday was wearing a tad bit more formal outfit, and it started getting colorful as the notes were played. The blonde was amazed, letting her jaw hang open.
Then, she heard ruffling behind her and turned once more. There, right in front of her, was a sight she never thought she’d see: Wednesday Addams was holding a bunch of extremely colorful balloons in her hand and a cake in the same palette in the other. Enid gasped and walked closer. The image on top of the cake then came to life. It was a rendition of their Poe Cup win, with a canoe with a tiny Wednesday and Enid rowing, then Wednesday putting Enid on her shoulders as the girl raised the trophy high. The blonde gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. Wednesday finally spoke.
“Can you just take these, they’re burning my hand and for once it’s not very pleasurable.” Enid quickly took the balloons from the girl, noticing that indeed there were some red marks in her hand. “Thank you.” Enid had tears in her eyes as she looked back at everything.
“What is all this, Wednesday?” The wolf asked, not able to take the smile off her face. Wednesday cleared her throat and maneuvered Enid’s shoulder so she was facing a specific tree.
“I assume you have learned morse code to speak with Thing.” Enid nodded. “Good.” Wednesday then snapped her fingers twice with both hands, and a swarm of bees started enveloping the tree they were facing. They started to rhythmically flap their wings as one, and Enid widened her eyes. When she looked at Wednesday again, the girl was holding a big bouquet of white and pink roses and yellow and orange lillies, and Enid’s squeal almost made Wednesday’s ears bleed. “So, will you, Enid, be my partner at the Addams Family Ball?”
The blonde squealed again and jumped on top of the goth, embracing her like never before.
“Of course, of course, of course I will, Wednesday!” She kissed the girl’s cheek, making her blush, and continued without letting go of her. “God, this is all so perfect! This is amazing!” Then Xavier and Eugene came out of their hiding spots.
“Glad you liked it, it was a pain to make.” The older boy joked and the younger one shrugged.
“The bees were actually very cooperative.” Enid buried her face on Wednesday’s neck and once more squealed happily.
“Did you or Xavier bake the cake?”
“It was actually Kent, if you believe me.” Enid raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Yeah, I asked Bianca for help and she told me Kent was a great baker, and here we are. I wasn’t sure if you could eat chocolate, so I went with vanilla.” Enid beamed and smashed their bodies together for the hundredth time, then whispered in Wednesday’s ear.
“There’s just one tiny little problem.” She giggled and the goth tensed for a second, “I don’t know how to dance.” The ravenette smirked.
“Oh, mon chiot, that is entirely too easy to fix." Enid looked at her with curiosity. "I’ll teach you.”

Chapter Text
What Wednesday didn’t foresee was that in order to teach the girl to dance, they’d have to be close. Extremely close.
[@_jhdhc on twitter (https://twitter.com/_jhdhc/status/1608389784019537920/photo/1)]
As big as the goth’s ask had been, it was an act led by a certain amount of desperation, she really could not risk getting a no. But she naturally wasn’t romantic, and definitely wasn’t used to touching and proximity. So when she told Enid they could start the lessons, and the blonde was immediately right in front of her , Wednesday short-circuited. She was setting up the music, and when she had looked up, there Enid was, a few centimeters from her with that blinding smile. She breathed in sharply and stumbled backwards, sitting on the edge of her bed unintentionally. Her face was burning and she couldn’t find any words. Enid frowned in concern.
“Wednesday, is everything okay?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” The goth replied hastily.
“Well, because you basically tripped over yourself and I’ve never seen so much color in your face before. Did you eat something rotten again? I told you not even your stomach can take it.” Wednesday took a deep breath.
“I’m fine, it’s just a bit… hot in here.” She got up and walked to their window, opening it to let air flow.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure. But today I think it’ll be best if I let you get acquainted with what we’re gonna learn later.” Enid nodded. “Get your little box of torture, please.” As Enid fished for her cellphone, Wednesday did the same. “See if I learned correctly.”
“You sent me a video?” Wednesday nodded.
“Yes. It’s my parents, last year.” Enid’s face lit up at the information, but soon frowned.
“Wait, how did you record it?”
“Pugsley fell victim to the soul-sucking void of meaningless affirmation a few years back.” Enid chuckled.
“I never asked, do you just have those lines ready in your head or do they just come to you?” Wednesday rolled her eyes at the question and Enid chuckled again.
“You’re lucky you’re cute.” Wednesday grumbled, but Enid had very good senses.
“What did you say?” She asked innocently, and Wednesday once more cosplayed a tomato.
“I said you’re lucky I don’t shoot you.” She stomped away and Enid giggled to herself.
The next day, Wednesday was sure she had prepared herself to be close to the blonde. Yes, she definitely was.
“Okay, come here.” The goth stood in the middle of their room and extended her hand towards the blonde, who jumped up immediately. Wednesday then put Enid’s left arm on her own shoulder and her right hand on Enid’s waist. She was on a mission to not look at the blonde’s face or let her mind comprehend what was happening. For the most part, she was doing a great job, with only a tint to her cheeks. But then, Enid moved her hand and placed it on Wednesday’s waist.
“Why can’t I do it?” The girl squeezed the skin under her fingers, and Wednesday breathed in sharply, feeling all her composure vanish in a second. She looked up to the blonde, and their distance was minimal.
Enid’s breath hitched at the sight and she quickly jumped away from the goth, feeling her face flush. She ran to their window and pushed it open.
“Wow, suddenly it’s hot in here. Aren’t you hot today, Wednesday? I sure am. Oof.” She rambled anxiously as she dealt with the window and tried to calm herself down, Wednesday doing the same.
“Yeah, leave it open.” The blonde slowly walked back to their position. “I, uhm, I just assumed you’d be in the, uhm, position traditionally assigned to the woman in the, erm, c-couple. And be-because my position was of the one who leads the da-dance. T-that’s why.” She gesticulated to the hands’ positions she had set up earlier and Enid nodded. “But we can, uh, change it if you- if you want.” Wednesday was trying to avoid the blue eyes at all costs, and Enid rubbed her hands together.
“Oh, no, it’s, uhm, it’s okay. I’m also taller, so it’s, you know, more comfortable for me the way you showed first.” The goth nodded rapidly.
Then, she put her left hand in the air, waiting for Enid to copy her with her right one. And just as they clasped them together, both girls blurted out at the same time:
“I’m sorry if my hand’s clammy.”
“I’m sorry if my hand’s cold.” Wednesday looked at the ground and Enid snorted, immediately letting go of the goth to clean her hands on her skirt, then getting back into position.
“Go on.”
Wednesday took a deep breath before speaking again.
“Okay, I’ll start with the basics and as you catch on we’ll make it harder.” Enid nodded in understanding. “So first let’s take a step to your right.” Each took a step in a different position and tugged the other one. “ Your right, E.”
“This is my right!” Wednesday would never admit there was a laugh playing on her lips.
“That’s your left, wolfie.” Enid stopped to think for a second.
“Oh, my bad.” Wednesday shook her head in amusement.
“No worries. Come.” They joined their hands once more. “A step to the right.” Wednesday shook their joint hands to emphasize the side, making Enid giggle but comply. “And another one. That’s it.” Enid beamed at the goth. “Now we do one step back and one forward. Yeah, just like that.”
Enid giggled and the sound made Wednesday’s skin crawl. She felt the heat on her face once more and wished she could hear the blonde for the rest of her days.
“Okay, after that it’s basically repeating. I’ll pull you towards a direction and you follow, always in that same pattern, alright?” The blonde nodded. “Two steps forward, one back, one forward, change direction.”
“I think I got it.” Enid was desperately trying to not step on Wednesday’s toes, so she kept looking down. After a minute, Wednesday stopped and removed her hand from the blonde’s waist, instead placing it under her chin and gently pulling it up.
“Look at me.” Enid got flustered in milliseconds, and Wednesday followed suit as soon as their gazes met. Taken by surprise, the goth took a step back and stumbled on whatever colorful atrocity the blonde had left on the floor that day. Enid, with her wolf reflexes, quickly caught the girl by her waist.

“Willa!” Once more their faces were far too close to not incite any reaction, and upon noticing, Enid yelped and let go of the ravenette, who fell on the floor with a loud thump. “Oh my god, Wednesday, are you okay?”
“Yeah.” The goth groaned as she tried to stand up.
“I’m so dumb. I'm so sorry, here, let me help.” She extended her hand and the smaller girl took it. But forgetting her wolf strength, Enid pulled Wednesday too forcefully, and they ended up almost smacking each other. The blonde yelped and jumped away once more, but this time Wednesday managed to find her footing.
She took a breath and walked to her bed, clutching her speeding heart.
“I think that’s okay for today.” Enid also sat on her bed and nodded. “Wanna listen to the song we were supposed to be dancing to?”
“Oh, yeah, of course!”
Wednesday then put a beautiful cello and violin rendition of the Blue Danube on her phone.
“Strauss’ Blue Danube.”
“It’s beautiful, Wednesday.” The blonde has her eyes closed and is humming along with it; Wednesday can’t help but stare at her in awe. After a while, she clears her throat and remarks:
“I find it to be way too cheerful, but it’s a classic and the basics of waltzing. Once we get it down we can move to what my parents are doing in the video.” Enid gasped and sighed.
“Oh, okay. It’s gonna be hard, though.” The goth softened her features.
“You can do anything you put your mind to, Enid.” As soon as the words are out of her mouth, she regrets it, as her whole body becomes warm with the girl’s coos.
“Thank you, Wednesday, that was very sweet.”
“If you tell anybody I’ll rip your tongue out.” Enid giggled at her and Wednesday couldn’t help but groan at the lack of fear of her threats.
The next day, Wednesday used the time to set the gramophone to calm her nerves. Her hands shook slightly as she gently placed the needle on top of the vinyl. You can do this, it’s just a stupid dance. You’ve been practicing for a few days now, get your act together, Addams!
She cleared her throat before turning to her roommate, who was eagerly waiting.
“So, today we’ll do the same as yesterday but with the song.” Enid nodded vigorously. “And everytime I let go of your waist and put our joint hands up, I want you to twirl, alright?” Enid squealed at that.
“That’s so exciting!” The goth couldn’t help but twitch the ends of her lips up, she loved to see the blonde happy.
Then, as Enid took a step closer, Wednesday quickly grabbed the girl and pulled her closer. Enid blushed furiously with the girl’s certainty and their proximity, but she would be lying if she said she didn’t like it.
[@mozzalu on tumblr (https://at.tumblr.com/mozzalu/enids-first-tango-lesson/819yyacbdbxm)
“Ready?” The ravenette asked, and the wolf didn’t trust her own voice, so she simply nodded instead and let Wednesday guide her through the dance.
It was much easier with the music on, and Enid felt herself relax with each passing minute. Wednesday quickly let go of her waist and pulled her chin up.
“Look at me.” But Enid knew she couldn’t concentrate if she stared at the brown eyes, so she immediately whipped her gaze somewhere else, but Wednesday pulled her chin back again. “I said at me .” A shiver went down Enid’s spine at the girl’s decidedness and she felt her body getting hot again, but she complied anyway.
Then, a few seconds later, once again Wednesday let go of her waist, but this time she lifted their hands above her head, and Enid clumsily twirled, letting a giggle escape.
“That’s good. Give me another one.” Wednesday did the same thing and this time Enid twirled much more gracefully, giggling again. Wednesday could spend the entire day listening to the girl’s laugh make her ears bleed, she didn’t mind one bit.
When the song finished playing for the fourth time, Wednesday let go of Enid.
“Well, I think we’re good to go. If you do not wish to learn more, we’re already at a good enough stage with this dance to present it at the Ball.”
“No!” Enid yelled as she grabbed the shorter girl by her lapels, making the goth widen her eyes the slightest bit. She let go of her. “S-sorry.” Wednesday raised an eyebrow, asking her to explain herself. “I want to do your parents’ dance.”
“Okay. But it’s gonna be hard.” Enid nodded at that.
“I know, but we can make adjustments, right?”
“Of course.”
“Then yeah, I wanna impress them.”
Wednesday scoffed.
“Parental approval is an overrated use of brain power.”
Enid shrugged.
“Maybe. But I want them to like me.”
The goth scrunched up her face.
“Oh trust me, they’ll love you. It’ll be disgusting.”

Chapter Text
Once more, the pair found themselves ready for another practice the next day.
“Alright, I’ll teach you the most important parts and we’ll add the obnoxious little details later on.” Enid smiled brightly.
“Alrighty.”
“Okay. So, we’re gonna start with a twirl.” Enid nodded as Wednesday showed the video once more, then continued. “Mother’s awfully big on those, as you must’ve noticed, but for the love of all things dark, do not do that.” Enid giggled. “Just… once. Maybe twice.”
Enid skipped forward like an excited kid and they took their positions, Wednesday giving her a little bit of impulse. Enid stumbled on her own foot, and the ravenette quickly took a step forward to catch her.
“Careful.” Enid blushed as she looked into Wednesday’s eyes, which were full of worry, and nodded.
“Sorry.”
“No need to apologize. Let’s go again.”
Third time’s the charm as they say it, on the third attempt Wednesday was satisfied for the time being. She stabilized the blonde and put her right hand on her waist, extending the other one for Enid to take. The wolf took it with certainty and Wednesday fought a smile that threatened to form on her lips.
“Now we’re gonna take five steps to your right.” Enid nodded once firmly, and they did so. “And now a slow, 360 degrees turn.” Enid beamed as she watched the Addams’ composure and focus.
“You look so hot like this.” The moment the words escaped her mouth, Enid became a tomato, and Wednesday followed suit, her eyes widening. “S-sorry if that was out of line.” Wednesday’s brain wasn’t working enough to reply.
“I, uhm, eh, where were we?”
Enid’s heart was settling down.
“The slow turn.” Wednesday shook her head to organize her thoughts.
“Oh, yeah. Now we’re gonna look to our rights, then left, then to each other.” She did the action while she spoke to illustrate, and when their gazes met, pink returned to their cheeks and Enid whipped her head away. “How about we do everything from the beginning?” Enid quickly nodded, unable to find her voice.
On the fifth try they managed to get everything right without stumbling into each other. Enid clapped excitedly.
“See, Wednesday? We’ll get this down in no time!” The goth allowed herself to soften her expression.
“Indeed we’re progressing steadily.” The blonde squealed at that.
“C’mon, let’s keep going!”
“Fine, but just for a little while.” Enid nodded. “Okay, now we’re gonna take three steps backwards.” They did so. “Two to your left.” Then Wednesday stopped for a second. “Then you’re gonna twirl,” Enid nodded, “but before you can finish it. I’m gonna go behind you,” she was acting it out as she explained, “and we’re gonna do another one together.” Enid nodded once more.
“Okay, I think I got it.”
They began practicing it, but as soon as Wednesday flushed her body against Enid’s, the blonde inhaled sharply and jumped forward, her cheeks reddening immediately.
“Are you okay, Enid?” The girl turned around and laughed nervously.
“Yeah, yeah, just, uhm, your breath on my neck, erh, made my wolfy-sense tickle, you know?” She scratched the back of her neck and Wednesday frowned.
“Wolfy-sense, what’s that?”
“Like spidey-sense?” Wednesday’s blank star made Enid sigh. “Well, as we have more enhanced senses and are supposed to always be alert, everything catches our attention. I guess my body was startled by your proximity.” Wednesday tilted her chin up in that way that meant she was thinking.
“I shall take a step back, then.” Enid’s face scrunched up with the idea, and she lunged herself towards Wednesday, grabbing her by her lapels.
“NO!” Wednesday widened her eyes. “That’s not what I want. I was just startled, I’m okay now.”
“If you say so. But It’s no problem, I can-”
“No!” Enid had pulled Wednesday close again, and now the goth was blushing with the proximity, making the blonde hastily let go of her and take a step back. “S-sorry!”
They stared at each other for a minute before Enid let go of the breath she was holding.
“I think we can call it a day, don’t you think?” Wednesday slowly nodded.
“I agree. Excellent work today, Sinclair.”
“Thank you, Willa.” Enid smiled and Wednesday gave her a firm nod before retreating to her bed to do some reading.
“Okay, and now only you twirl. Yeah, that’s it.” Enid was still flustered everytime Wednesday came too close to her body, but now she had managed to make her brain work. “And now we cross the room,” they did so, “another twirl,” Enid had no idea how she was able to not get dizzy, “and now we join our hands without intertwining them and we lean first to your left than your right.”
The blonde complied, but her cheeks blushed again at their proximity.
“Now would be the moment I’d do a back handspring, but our room is too small for that.” Enid raised her brows.
“Wow, that’s so cool! I remember you doing something similar in your fencing match with Bianca.” Wednesday scowled and scoffed at that.
“We don’t talk about that failure. I would rather remove it from my memories.”
Enid rolled her eyes.
“No one got that close to beating her, and definitely not with such style.”
The goth shook her head.
“Still, I lost and made a fool of myself. At least I learned to never underestimate someone.” Enid smiled and nodded.
“Exactly! And then you never lost to her again. Take it as a valuable lesson learned.”
“Still, I don’t like to talk about it.”
“Then we shan’t. Let’s get back to the dance choreo.”
“Yes.” Enid took a step closer to Wednesday, waiting for her instructions. “After that, it’s the moment you throw a knife at me.” The blonde’s eyes widened.
“What?”
“Don’t you remember the video? Mother throws a knife at father and he catches it with his mouth.”
Enid laughed nervously.
“I thought we would skip that part.”
Wednesday sighed.
“We can switch then, I throw-”
“No!”
The Addams frowned at that, offended.
“Don’t you trust my knife-throwing abilities, Enid?” The blonde shook her head.
“I trust your knife-throwing abilities, what I don’t trust are my knife- catching abilities, which are, you know, nonexistent.”
Wednesday sighed at that.
“You’re a wolf, aka a dog, isn’t catching a thing you do?”
Enid scoffed playfully.
“Did you seriously just call me a Retriever?!” The ravenette shrugged and caught her phone, showing it to her roommate. It was an edit Yoko sent her of a picture of a Golden Retriever and another of Enid in her wolf form in their dorm, the resemblance was unavoidable, and the blonde scoffed again. “Whatever.”
“If you don't wish to do it, it’s okay, but I believe you’ll master this skill very quickly.”
Enid changed her weight from one foot to the other, thinking.
“I guess we can try, but just… go slowly.” Wednesday nodded and walked to her things, rummaging through it.
“Go on, wolf out.” Enid frowned, confused.
“Wolf out, why?”
“I believe it’ll give you confidence at the beginning.” Enid shrugged.
“Maybe.” Enid then forced herself to become the huge animal, and Wednesday finally found what she was looking for.
“Here. This is a training butterfly knife. Not the most ideal, for its weight and shape is different from a throwing knife, but it’ll do.” Enid nodded. “It doesn’t have a sharp side, so you’ll be fine.” The blonde barked softly in understanding. “Okay, now stand in that corner and I’ll throw it to you. I’m going to do it horizontally instead of vertically, which would be more common.”
The first throw had Enid with wide eyes. The knife went by her and collided with the wall, leaving a little mark there, and Wednesday had to fight a smile when she saw the dog’s expression.
“C’mon, E, it’s not gonna hurt you.” Enid barked angrily at the girl, and Thing gestured to Wednesday. “Since when do you speak wolf? Whatever, if I throw it slower it’s not gonna fly straight and she won’t be able to catch it at all.”
On the fourth try, Enid finally stretched her head forward and caught the knife, realizing it was… easy . From then on it was easy peasy.
“I think that’s good enough. Wanna try with a normal knife?” Enid replied with a series of barks, but they didn’t seem angry, and Things translated.
‘She said she thinks it’s better to try in her half form.’
Wednesday frowned a bit in confusion, but then Enid shifted into something in between, a human with dog ears, a tail, fur and fangs.
“Oh.” Wednesday was mesmerized by the sight, Enid truly was a marvel.
The blonde wagged her tail and smiled.
“What do you think, Willa?”
“Wow, that’s… pretty impressive.”
The other girl squealed and clapped excitedly.
“I know, right? I’ve been training for a while now, it’s like the best of both worlds!” Wednesday felt her cheeks warm up at the sight, she really loved seeing Enid happy. “And it hides my scars!” She said eagerly, but the goth hated how self conscious Enid was about them. They were beautiful, and a symbol of greatness.
Wednesday walked up to Enid and cupped her cheek, making her blush violently.
“Oh, Enid, your scars are beautiful, just like the rest of you. They do not need to be hidden, for they are a showcase of your nobility and strength.”
Enid felt her eyes be filled with tears, and she closed her eyes before they could be spilled.
“You don’t think they’re ugly?” Wednesday shook her head.
“On the contrary, I’m completely infatuated by them.” They both blushed wildly at that, but didn’t step away.
“Thank you, Willa.”
“No problem, E.” The goth gave her a forehead kiss before walking back to her side of the room.
“Now let’s get back to knives.”
They didn’t get to use real knives, but Wednesday was getting bored of not using them for violence, so after another 20 minutes they called it a day, with the Addams sitting by her typewriter and Enid flopping down on the girl’s bed, just so they wouldn’t be apart.
Enid found Wednesday’s presence calming, and her compliments had really helped calm her heart down, so she didn’t want to get away.
After a few minutes, Wednesday switched to typing with only her left hand, which, admittedly, slowed down her process significantly, but it was for a good cause. Enid was curled up on her bed, and she had fought long enough the urge to run her hand through golden hair, so she finally relented.
The blonde hummed at the contact and leaned into it, and for at least half an hour Wednesday kept it up. Then she got ready to sleep, but didn’t have the heart to wake the girl. And that’s how she found herself squished against the wall, all just so her beloved could continue peacefully sleeping. If anyone ever implied Wednesday ended up cuddling the werewolf, this person would lose a limb. Wouldn’t make it any less true, but still.
“C’mon, E, you’re doing it perfectly!”
The blonde whined.
“What if I cut my tongue or something?”
“You’re not, you’ve mastered the technique.” Wednesday argued but Enid whined again.
“But what if my nervousness makes me mess it up?”
Wednesday sighed.
“Okay, how about we use one that only has one sharp side?” The wolf fidgeted with her hands for a few seconds.
“Fine. But I’m still nervous.” The goth softened her expression and bumped their shoulders.
“You’ll be okay. Trust me, alright?” Enid took a deep breath and nodded.
But as soon as Wednesday threw the knife, Enid squealed and took a step back. This happened another three times until the Addams sighed and walked closer to the girl.
“Enid, you can do it.” Her gaze was intense, and the blonde wanted more than anything to believe the girl, then Wednesday took one of her hands on her own. “Do you want to wolf out? This way you can see the knife better.” The blonde shifted her weight from one leg to the other before nodding quietly. “You can tell me these things, I want you to be as comfortable as possible.”
“You’re gonna think I’m a coward.” Wednesday rolled her eyes at that.
“I might think you’re being idiotic, because I know you can do it, but never a coward. New things can be scary, and this does have the potential to hurt. And if in the end you don’t want to do it, it’s also fine.” Enid sighed and looked at the ground.
“I wanna do it, it looks dope as hell, but I don’t know, I’m scared.” Wednesday grabbed her other hand.
“It’s okay. We’ll go slowly.” Enid nodded. “Do you wanna try as a wolf or do you want to do something else?” The blonde took a deep breath.
“No, let’s try as a wolf, maybe it’ll give me the confidence I need.” The goth let the tips of her lips turn up at the girl.
The first and second tries, Enid missed the knife entirely. Then on the third and fourth attempts, she grabbed the handle. Only on the fifth one she decided to really pay attention to the object from the moment it left Wednesday’s grip. She bit down on the spine with perfection, and the two girls cheered her accomplishment.
Wednesday ran to her and scratched the back of her ears.
“See, what did I tell you? You can do it, Sinclair. You can do whatever you set your mind to.” Enid thanked the gods she was in wolf form, because otherwise she would’ve blushed violently at the words. Instead, she pressed her wet nose on Wednesday’s, and before she could lick her face, the goth sent her a death glare. “Don’t you dare.”
The taller girl then shifted to her halfway form and hugged Wednesday’s neck tightly, with the goth sighing.
“Now let’s try like this.” The Addams nodded at the words and walked to her side of the room, getting in position.
Enid grabbed the handle again on the first try, but already caught the spine on the second. After a few more successful tries, the blonde spoke excitedly.
“I wanna try with the real thing!”
Wednesday furrowed her brows slightly.
“What do you mean?”
“The throwing knives. I wanna try with them.”
The goth raised an eyebrow.
“Are you sure?”
Enid nodded.
“Yeah, I trust you.” Wednesday blushed immediately, and Enid looked away as she felt her own cheeks heat up.
The smaller girl rummaged through her things until she found her set, letting a smile grace her face at the sight of such beloved possessions.
“Here they are, my babies.”
Enid laughed, only an Addams would call a set of knives their baby.
“Are you ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.” Wednesday nodded once.
“Excellent.”
It was, in fact, excellent. Enid really leaned into the retriever side of her persona, and Wednesday couldn’t be more proud. Her parents would burst with affection, no room left for rejection of her chosen partner. Well, she’d still have to tell Enid what they were doing was essentially a public announcement of their coupling, but this was a problem for future Wednesday.
The rest of the choreography was simpler, because Enid refused to be a human beyblade and Wednesday gagged with the unnecessary and overtly-affectious ”ornaments” her parents adorned their dances.
The next two weeks were spent rehearsing, and rehearsing and rehearsing some more. Enid, more than Wednesday herself, was set on presenting a flawless sow to the guests, so they barely left Ophelia Hall in their free time.
Wednesday was getting increasingly nervous with Enid’s excitement, because she has yet to tell the werewolf the truth.
Wednesday tried a couple of times, but she found herself tripping over her words, something that only happened a few scarce moments in her life. But now her parents had asked her if she was bringing someone, and she was forced to reveal her canine companion. She had hastily hung up when the couple started asking questions she didn’t want to think about, such as if they were more than friends and if Wednesday loved Enid. Did she? She didn’t know, all she knew was that Enid was now a visceral part of her, almost as important to her physical integrity as oxygen, and that she would rather be forced to undergo a marathon of colorful chick-flicks than to be apart from the blonde. But she definitely didn’t know if she loved Enid or not, no clue at all.
And that’s why she was now pacing around their room, fidgeting like she only allowed herself to do at home, waiting anxiously for the bubbly wolf to step through the door.
Enid did so approximately 23 minutes later, and Wednesday couldn’t contain herself.
“I lied to you.” Somehow, the goth could feel Enid’s muscles tense, the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and her breath hitch. “More like omitted an important fact. And I will completely understand if you hate me from now on and do not want to associate with me any longer.”
“What are you talking about, Willa?” Enid was nervous, she hated when people dropped bombs like this on her.
Wednesday diverted her gaze to the ground.
“Our dance, it’s-” the goth felt her heart thump violently against her ribcage, disturbing her train of thought, “its-”
“What about it, Wednesday?” The blonde took a step closer, fighting the urge to cradle the ravenette’s face, which looked oh so sad.
“It’s not what you think.”
Enid furrowed her brows in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
Wednesday, somehow, stared at the ground even harder.
“It’s not just a fun, cool thing.” She tried to steady her breathing. “It’ll be interpreted as-” hell, why is this so hard, “as a courting announcement.” She finally managed to get it out, but she couldn’t look up to meet Enid’s blue eyes, which would no doubt be filled with anger and disgust at her antics. She wouldn’t blame Enid.
And then she heard a giggle. Enid Sinclair was honest to god giggling at the information, and Wednesday couldn’t help but look up. Enid was smiling.
“Ha, that’s so silly!” Wednesday looked at her like she was insane. “You have to announce you’re trying to woo someone? That’s so funny to think about.” She giggled some more and Wednesday felt like calling Pugsley to have her head exploded. Her eye twitched as the blonde went on. “And besides, I thought it was pretty obvious what we were doing after a live painting of you serenaded me in a balloon-decorated clearing with animated cake and bee messages. But I guess your relatives weren’t there and you don’t post anything on social media. Actually, makes perfect sense in an Addams world. Huh, funny.” She finally stopped rambling to look at the goth, who looked like she had been run over by a monster truck. “Are you okay there, Weds?”
“I’ve been getting eaten alive by my anxiety and guilt over this and you-” her eye twitched again, “you say our situation was obvious?!” Then Wednesday’s face contorts itself into one of rage. “OBVIOUS, SINCLAIR?! OBVIOUS, WITH ME?!” Oh , the penny drops for Enid. It’s Wednesday. Enid chuckles embarrassed.
“You- you brought me flowers, Wednesday, lots of them. That’s pretty straight-forward to me, I just thought-” She shrugged and Wednesday walked closer to her, much calmer.
“It’s just that-” she sighed, she hated being this vulnerable, “you never did anything in return. Not that I was expecting it, but I figured you thought it was just to ask you to the dance, nothing more.” Enid allows herself to hoover her hand close to Wednesday’s cheeks, waiting for permission, which is granted, and the blonde caresses the pale skin.
“I just figured that wasn’t your thing. Like, it’s my thing and that’s why you did it, not because you also wanted it.”
Wednesday whispered:
“I didn’t.”
“I know how much you value your personal space, how much you hate physical contact and surprises. I know you don’t like to be around many people, even if they’re your friends, and I’m acutely aware of how much you despise your parents’ PDAs. I didn’t want to push your boundaries, because I know people are constantly doing that, and it must be exhausting. I didn’t want to add to it.” Wednesday took a step forward and let Enid wrap herself around her tiny frame. Only Enid could see her break, and a single tear ran down her cheek.
“Thank you.” Enid kissed the top of her head. “It- it means a lot to me. I did not know you put so much thought into me.”
Enid chuckles.
“Are you kidding me? You’re the only thing I think about, Weds. All the freaking time, it’s so annoying!” Wednesday playfully punched her shoulder.
“That's gay, Sinclair.”
“It is, Addams. I’m gay for you.” Wednesday chuckles almost imperceptibly.
“See, straight forward!”
“More like gay forward.” Enid wiggled her eyebrows and Wednesday shook her head disapprovingly.
“Do not ever say that again.”
“Can’t promise anything.” Wednesday scoffed playfully and the wolf continued, pulling Wednesday’s chin up so their eyes could meet. “Can I kiss you, mister?” Wednesday blushed furiously, she had once whispered to Enid how she rather be called mister instead of miss or ma’am.
“Y-yeah-h.” They closed the space between them, and Wednesday’s breath hitched with all the sensations running through her body, while Enid couldn’t contain the smile plastered on her face. After another minute, the blonde giggled.
“Yoko is gonna have a field day when I tell her we were not, in fact, dating yet.”
Wednesday grimaces.
“Tell her the moment she makes fun of me she’s gonna be showered with so much garlic she wished she was dead.”
Enid giggled again and kissed Wednesday’s forehead.
“I will, don’t worry.”
