Chapter 1: A Fated Encounter

Chapter Text

As always, the Hollyberry Kingdom would be as lively as ever. Nothing could ever keep it from being this active, no one could stop how much fun everyone would have.. and even the very excitable fights that would occur– Though nonetheless! It was probably the happiest kingdom on Earthbread. Perhaps that was an overstatement? Because as for some of the residents of the Hollyberry Kingdom, that was quite the opposite. The heiress to House Raspberry herself, Raspberry Cookie, was finding herself rather unhappy right at the moment.

In the wake of the argument she had with her father, Raspberry left their manor to flee to the Cranberry Forest. She often found herself here to calm down, it was always after her father decided to yell at her for the stupidest of things. He was more so mad at her as of recently because of her failing in the Princess Contest… it wasn’t fully her fault, and yet he blamed it on her ‘incompetence’ and ‘weakness’ and sent her off to her room so he wouldn’t have to look at her for the rest of the day. The only one who served to even comfort Raspberry was her cousin… it was always going to be Raspberry Mousse who at least tried in vain to make her feel better. It just made her feel slightly worse because a part of her believed the words of her father.

Nonetheless, she was just… trying to keep calm now. Sitting on a stray log, polishing her scarlet blade… calming down. But being here alone, only with her own thoughts to give her any sense of company, she could not help but once more feel increasingly worse than before. Thinking back to the words of her father, were they true? Was she a pitiful excuse for not only a daughter- but the person who was to take up House Raspberry after he was gone? He could’ve definitely replaced her, she had plenty of cousins like Mousse who could take up that role as the heir… but he didn’t replace her. Even as he saw her as so worthless, she was his only child- the only child he would ever have even after what happened to her mother… why he didn’t marry someone new? She did not know. She was stuck in this role that she tried her hardest to be proud of. Though as things progressed and she got older, it was harder to be proud of not only her title but her own self.

These thoughts that bubbled up within her mind would vanish in an instant when she heard a commotion nearby. It was not normal to her… she was already highly aware that creatures lived in this forest, and there were times when she saw some once or twice. But the normal rustling of leaves and the appearance of a small creature did not alarm her… not even in the slightest. But the noises she heard? They made her stand up, keeping her sword unsheathed. She was on alert now, slowly yet surely walking through the forest to approach the noises… it was akin to fighting. It was certainly a scuffle, but perhaps it was a scuffle between mere animals? That could be possible! But a part of her wanted no.. needed to see what was going on. She’d creep closer, making sure she was not seen and…

It was worse than she thought.

It was no scuffling of animals- There were these cake monsters… attacking another cookie?!?! They had overwhelmed the poor person, crowding them, so Raspberry knew she had to do something about it. She ran to help them, slashing at the cake monsters to fend them off. Some of them knew better than to mess with her and fled, and the ones who remained put up their own fight before running away themselves after becoming too injured against her scarlet blade... It made her incredibly frustrated, yelling at the monsters,

“Yes! Run away! Run away like the cowards you are!”

She breathed heavily, sheathing her sword back in its scabbard. Raspberry would then turn to the individual who was injured… it was a man who looked like no one in the Hollyberry Kingdom. He was cloaked, though the hood was askew to allow her to see much of his features. Dark skin, black hair with.. notable white streaks in it. Along with curious red eyes– no– red eye. The other one was scarred shut. One could say he was even handso- No! This was serious! How dare she think about such frivolous things! She moved to his side, taking notice that he was still conscious and grabbing onto his shoulders,

“Sir, are you alright? Sir??”

He would not respond to her, barely acknowledging her presence, with his consciousness eventually fading, his eyes closing… It caused Raspberry to feel somewhat panicked as if her heart dropped right into her stomach.  Did this man not have anything to defend himself with??? That was evident.. she saw no weapons nearby.. but she had to bring him to safety. He was injured, very much so, so she’d have to be smart about this. She’d lift him up with as much of her strength as she could,  heaving his unconscious body to rest leaning on her back as she made sure he would not fall. Another breath, and there Raspberry was off back home in the quickest way possible. She would save this man, she would not let him die! It would absolutely tarnish her honor… but there was something about this man that interested her…

Why on Earthbread did he seem so familiar?

Dark Choco Cookie would wake up slowly, blinking until his vision cleared.. staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling. Everything was unfamiliar to him actually, he smelled a strong scent of raspberries… where was he? The last he remembered, he was walking around the Cranberry Forest until… he was attacked at random. Unfortunately, he hadn’t been carrying a weapon with him, so he could not properly defend himself and was eventually swarmed. Though… someone had saved him. He could not completely recall everything, he was too injured to truly focus on anything, but the one thing he remembered was the pink hair of the person who came to his rescue.

What would redirect his attention though, was the sound of arguing outside of the room he was in… it was actually what had caused him to wake up in the first place. It was right outside the door, he could make out the words being spoken fairly well though it was slightly muffled.

“...Your head is full of idiotic thoughts! How dare you bring a stranger into my house!”

“He was injured, father! I could not let him die!”

“But someone like that? Someone who’s not from the Hollyberry Kingdom in the slightest?? It is your own foolish thoughts that took control of you! You could’ve taken him to a doctor– not let him stay here and be treated!”

“This was the closest way if I spent any longer he would’ve lost much more blood,” The woman's voice would grow slightly calmer, she seemed almost desperate to get this ‘father’ of hers to understand.

He’d hear a groan, and the woman would not be responded to… he simply only heard stomping that would grow fainter and fainter…

Suddenly, the door to his room would open. The woman herself, who else but the one who had come to his rescue, would enter the room and closed the door… leaning on it with a sigh. She had not yet noticed that Dark Choco was awake and sitting up– until she looked up at him in surprise.

“Oh, you’re awake… I.. did not expect that. But I’m glad.”

He looked at her curiously, she looked absolutely exhausted. The previous argument had taken a toll on the poor woman.. but that tiredness was covered by a kind smile on her face as she approached him. There was a chair by his bedside, and she sat there.

“I did not expect you to wake so early, due to your injuries,” She’d reiterate, “I apologize for not being able to help you sooner. I was there in that forest… and yet.. I spent much time in not realizing the situation until it was nearly too late.”

As far as he noticed, she was a very polite woman. Well, a polite woman with an air of nobility about her. She looked like a noble… she was most definitely one. He recognized as much with not only her clothing but the room itself. Either way, what was most notable for Dark Choco, was the politeness she showed. He had not felt such kindness for a long long time… even after he left his duty in the Cookies of Darkness and left his old life behind as a whole– Not many would treat him normally. He did have a strange appearance, along with cloaking himself.. anyone would be intimidated.

But this woman? She was not. It perplexed him with how nice she was, he was just that unfamiliar with such treatment. He too would have to reply to her, finding it rude that he kept her waiting… but she did not seem to mind??

“I.. It’s… it’s okay,” He’d say, somewhat clumsy with his words, “Where– Where am I? Who are you..?”

She’d perk up, “Oh! My apologies once more…”

Standing up from the chair, she’d put a hand to her chest, “I am Raspberry Cookie, heiress to House Raspberry. You currently are in one of the guestrooms of our manor.”

Raspberry… it was a fitting name, regarding her appearance. It was definitely confirmed that she was a part of the nobility, one of the great berry houses at that. As if he did not notice the accessory that decorated her hair late enough... Still, It made him a little curious as to why the heiress of House Raspberry was in the Cranberry Forest to begin with– or why she saved him in the first place. Perhaps those are questions for another day, though he did not know how long he’d even stay here nor how long he’d be in contact with this woman.

Now sitting down once again, Raspberry would ask, “And who may you be?”

He did… not know what to say. What could he say? He did not have the ability to come up with a fake name on the spot.. he… he– he had no clue what to do! What would she say if he went ahead and so boldly told her his true name?? Would she fear him?? Would she despise him?? He had done so many horrible things… he.. He could not tell her his name..

She noticed his quietness and his slight panic, and ever so kindly once more, Raspberry would wave her hand, “Ah- you do not need to tell me if it bothers you so. You can tell me at a later time, I don’t mind.”

Dark Choco sighed out of relief, he was grateful for this strange noble lady’s kindness. It was still so odd to him that she was so kind to begin with… yet… he could find himself appreciating it even more.

“Say,” She’d speak again, “Were you once from the Cacao Kingdom? I just find it somewhat odd that someone who would usually be so suited for a colder environment would come here to the Hollyberry Kingdom, which could be said to be the hottest kingdom on Earthbread.”

“Ah.. yes.. I was…” He’d reply, he couldn’t lie about this. He obviously looked as if he was once from there… his appearance said it all.

“I see.. you remind me of someone quite familiar..”

“Hm?” He began to get a little worried, what did she mean??

Raspberry would chuckle nervously, “I am not prone to spreading gossip, but– in the past, I had heard some things at tea parties I attended. The ladies spoke of the prince of the Cacao Kingdom… how beautiful he was, how he had such pretty flowing black hair with interesting white streaks, how strong he was… oh! And his striking red eyes. They adored him so, and were absolutely saddened and horrified by his fate.”

Panic.

“All I am saying is that you remind me of how he is described. You’re lucky you look so close to his appearance, if only you had longer hair.”

What could he say? What on Earthbread could he say??? She did not speak so ill of him as most others would.. but.. If he told her who he was, what would she do? Would she be horrified by him like those ladies she described? He didn’t know what to do at all! His mind continued to race.. he- Dammit, he was going to tell this woman. It was no use lying. He had to reveal his identity and take up for all that he had done and accept that no one would show him kindness if they knew who he truly was.

So he’d clear his throat, “I.. am… I- I am actually that… prince… former prince of the Cacao Kingdom.. I am Dark Choco Cookie.”

Poor Dark Choco, he was waiting for her to look at him with disgust and to yell at him.. moving as far away from him as to avoid his evil aura! Even kick him out even in this injured state of his! Though instead– she just stared at him. Her eyes were wide, her mouth hung open— before she immediately made a bowing motion staring RIGHT at the floor,

“I– I am so sorry! Forgive me– for– for speaking so idiotically in your presence.. I had never known what you truly looked like in person so I spouted nonsense gossip to your face!”

Dark Choco would look at her in shock, waving his hands, “You- You do not need to apologize to me! I am no longer a prince.. my title means nothing.. please raise your head..”

“But I still said such meaningless and perhaps even insulting things right to your face..”

“I am no longer a prince, they mean nothing to me. Those were things said about me in the past,” Dark Choco would sigh, he missed those days when he was truly happy. He was satisfied with finally being free now, yes, but— he was still always going to be unhappy. He was still always going to wish that he hadn’t found that damned sword and it hadn’t had its cursed grip on him for years. He was always going to wish he hadn’t hurt and betrayed his father, not only him but the people of his kingdom as well. He was not befitting the title of a prince, he did not deserve it in the slightest after all that he had done. He did not deserve the respect a prince would always have from his people and his peers.  Hence why he did not want to be treated like the prince he once was…

There were only small moments of peace where these thoughts of all of his mistakes would cease to linger on his mind, those were the best moments in his opinion. Where he did not have to think of all that he did, all that he hurt, all that hated him… but like always, they’d always keep creeping back in. He was no longer cursed, so these were thoughts of his own. His own guilt.

“I understand,” Raspberry would say,  sitting back up normally, “Once again, I apologize for my behavior…”

She kept on apologizing, he felt a little bad because they were genuine apologies– he could tell as much from her face. But it too tired him continuing to tell her it was alright, that she didn’t need to apologize, he’s experienced worse words from other individuals. Her words were not even insulting at all, if a little interesting, to get some insight as to how people used to think about him.

But then, surprisingly or unsurprisingly, the woman would revert to her former normal yet composed attitude, “Then, if you do not mind me asking, why were you in the Cranberry forest unarmed? Nowadays things are becoming more dangerous there… its why whenever I go there, I at least bring my sword with me. It used to be run rampant with dragonkin now the most I see there that could be considered ‘dangerous’ are cake monsters.”

“It was a misstep on my part,” Dark Choco would begin explaining, “I.. did not think of the potential danger there..”

“Fair enough, I can understand that. But it’s important to always be on your guard, do keep that in mind from now on... Though none of that truly matters now, you’re healing and you’re under the roof of one of the great berry houses in the Hollyberry Kingdom. As long as you’re here you’re under my protection.”

“It.. it does not seem like other individuals here are so happy with my presence…” He’d sigh, recalling the argument that he assumed Raspberry had with her father outside his door.

“What do you mean?” She’d tilt her head slightly, confused.

“I had overheard a conversation outside… it was what woke me up. I can only assume it was between you and..”

“Oh!” Raspberry became surprised again- and very remorseful, “I am so sorry! That was… I am sorry… I did something that was against my father's wishes, and it was bringing you here to heal. But don’t worry about any of that, I’ll do anything to not let you be kicked out.”

“Why?”

“Pardon?”

“Why are you so easily letting me stay here? Knowing what I have done.. we are strangers to one another yet you treat me with kindness I do not deserve,” Another sigh from Dark Choco, and he saw her expression soften.

“What happened to you in the past has nothing to do with me. The past is the past, so I smartly decided to not dwell on it… either way, I wasn’t even there to witness your atrocities. So what can I say about them?”

“So.. you do not hate me for what I did?”

“I cannot see myself hating you unless you were to continue the horrible things you had done– then I’d probably have a reason. But as of now? I do not, so don’t worry about what I think. The only thing I wish to worry about is if you’ll heal well.”

Dark Choco laid back on the bed, staring at the ceiling again. This was so unusual to him, a part of him wanted to say she was lying to him.. yet.. she seemed so overtly genuine. He knew most nobles to be rather fake, putting up acts, but he could recognize her actions as no form of act. She was the one who dragged him here and demanded he be treated… using her power to her advantage to save a stranger. He felt like it was some sort of wicked dream, something that he had wished for so badly-- but he had to face the fact it was his reality, so there was no 'dreaming' necessary.

“Oh-” She’d stand up, “I  had nearly forgotten..  I had only come in here initially to check your bandages. I’ve had the great ‘honor’ of switching them out for you once before, so unless you have the strength and dexterity to do it yourself– do allow me to assist you. I truly insist.”

It seemed as if the former prince would continue to be surprised today, even such a noble lady would go so far as to be in the vicinity of blood! He truly underestimated her, and he was even further underestimating how hellbent she was on making sure he was alright. It made him so so confused… but.. he.. appreciated it more and more?!?

“I cannot say no to that… I don’t think I’d be able to do it myself..”

“That’s alright. Please, again, I will apologize if you become slightly uncomfortable– If I start to bother you do let me know.”

“I will,” Dark Choco nodded at her, slightly nervous. His body was already marred with scars, battle scars.. some perhaps self-inflicted… so he was already self-conscious about it all. Yet, again, this ever so strange woman did not mind it. She gently would take off his soiled bandages, most definitely covered in blood, slightly making a face at his wounds… it seemed as if she was sad than anything else to see them. He could only wonder what she thought of the scars that came before these newer ones… pondering if she’d even ask about them. But she was polite enough to keep her mouth shut, working diligently to change his bandages, cleaning up what she could of the wounds, and wrapping new bandages around them.

She’d overall look very satisfied when she sat back down on the chair, crossing her arms with a smile on her face.

That was when he realized… he had not thanked her yet. For anything. Another oversight, a terrible oversight, because clearly- she had done plenty for him. Too much for him. He had so much to repay already...

“...I… thank you.”

“Oh, there is no need to thank me. I am only doing my duty as the heiress of House Raspberry, dressing wounds is nothing special.”

“No no,” He’d try to explain, “I– thank you for everything. You… you had saved me when I thought no one else could. You even brought me here… to your home… even when you shouldn’t have…and have taken care of me…  I am in your debt. I will do anything to repay you.."

“You need not owe me anything, don’t worry about it! Just focus on getting better, like I have said before, you are currently under my protection so no one will bother you.. I promise that..” From his perspective, she looked a little worried when she said that last part… who was going to bother him? Why? Was it that man she called ‘father’ that she argued with? Was he the head of the household..? So many questions…

“But currently, I have other things to attend to. If you need any assistance, just pull this lever and a maid will come to serve you as soon as possible," She'd make a motion to the said lever by his bedside, "In fact, I’ll call one here soon to give you lunch. You must be starving…”

“I am.. Somewhat hungry. But it is not that much of an issue..” He’d say, which was a lie. He was truly very hungry-

“Eating is one way to get your strength up! I will see you again, Dark Choco Cookie. It was nice to finally meet the prince of the Cacao Kingdom.. even if you are not the prince any longer,” The woman would say, standing up from her seat and making a bowing motion– before heading out of the door.

Overall, Dark Choco found himself overly confused, curious, and… just… yearning to know more about this place. More about this woman who came out of nowhere to rescue him. Someone who doesn’t hate him.. Someone who seems to barely care about his past, all of his previous wrongdoings and savagery he had committed, and how he was once a part of the Cookies of Darkness. She overlooked the lot of it all, and mostly saw him as he was: The banished former prince of the Cacao Kingdom, someone who broke free from that cursed sword, and someone who dumbly enough traveled around without a weapon.

She was just so nice, he felt a little overwhelmed.. Letting him have access to the potential luxuries of an aristocrat such as herself. Laying on a comfortable bed, smelling such sweet scents, and eventually getting to eat the delicious sweet food that these lands provided. Treatment he had not had in such a long long time, someone actually respecting him and looking at him as if he was a normal cookie. It was almost like home but different, no matter how much he missed it-- it wasn't completely the same.

He just truly did not know what he was getting into. The life of an aristocrat is not easy, it’s far from easy, though its full of so many good and nice things-  he was only at the beginning of his time in the Hollyberry Kingdom and in House Raspberry’s walls itself.  He would not be leaving anytime soon, only because he couldn’t help but feel allured by the heiress of this once grand berry house....

Chapter Text

Dark Choco never left.

As in, after he recovered, he surprisingly did not just… leave, satisfied with the care he had received.

It had been only just a few days that he had been within the confines of Chateau Raspberry, free to leave as he pleased but remaining regardless, and it didn’t seem as if anyone minded his presence. At least, if they did find him unpleasant then they weren’t saying it out loud. Nonetheless, there seemed to be only one person actually vocal about their distaste for the former prince being there in the first place. Of course, who else but the head of the household himself, Raspberry’s father, Raspberry Tart Cookie.

He who had overall authority over House Raspberry, yet only spoke rudely about the man and did not actively force him out. It was odd behavior from him of all people, someone who did not externally show his daughter any love or kindness… yet… strangely, very strangely- ‘kindly’ allowed this fellow that his daughter had brought in to stay. Who knew his motives, perhaps he was testing her. She was to be the future head of the household herself, she was its heiress, and… it could be possible he was trying to prove something to her. That you don’t bring just any stranger into your house and let them stay.

It would be a fair lesson if it complied with the situation at hand. But the lesson would be one that was completely futile because Dark Choco proved to be a very ‘out of the way’ person. Though he was tall and large, he kept to himself and did not wish to bother the residents and the workers of the house. The only time he ‘bothered’ them was when he called for the maids in his time of healing… and it would leave plenty of a good impression on them actually! Raspberry would hear whispers of their silly chatter about him, speaking about how cute and kind he was… though his appearance was outwardly scary. It almost made her want to burst out laughing but…

It was true.

On a certain day, Raspberry had been invited over to House Bumbleberry, to spend some time with none other than Bumbleberry Cookie. She was probably one of the only other noble ladies that Raspberry found herself to be the fondest of, they shared the similarity of valuing strength over most other things… so therefore, she felt as if she could trust her over most other people. Either way, she was one of the nicer people she knew, and she hoped that she’d stay nice. Though even if they were considered friends, and even if she mostly could trust her, there would always remain that part of her that still didn’t. Gossip spreads and spreads, and in a world of nobles, it could absolutely ruin someone. It was what caused House Raspberry to fall from grace before…

Nonetheless, after a quick sparring session between them, the two ladies sat down at a table outside to drink tea. It seemed as if Bumbleberry could not wait to share something she had learned just recently,

“Raspberry, I heard that there’s a strange man that’s been living in your house for a fair few days and that you were the one who brought him there in the first place."

Just before taking a sip from her cup, Raspberry sighed and held it in front of herself, “And who told you about that?”

“Oh– One of my aunts told me… and she got it from one of your aunts. I was just curious to see if it was actually true…” Bumbleberry leaned forward a bit, “Is it?”

Raspberry was somewhat annoyed…oh great! gossip! About herself! and the good deed she did- honestly what a bother... but she’d go ahead and answer because she could not keep her friend waiting, and she wished to set things straight,

“Well, yes, it is true. But don’t get any ideas, he got attacked in the Cranberry forest and I happened to be there so I saved him- and I made sure he was taken care of in my home. I do not know why he hasn’t left yet, but I think he just needs a place to stay.”

“Why were you, Raspberry Cookie, in the Cranberry Forest?”

“...To meditate. Am I not allowed to leave my household?”

Bumbleberry laughed, “Come on Rasp! I was just joking– but– seriously, that fellow is lucky you found him in the first place. My aunt told me that your aunt described him as scary, a hulking monster with one red eye! A bunch of scars too! Is that.. also true?”

Raspberry had long put her cup down, leaning back in her chair and shaking her head, “Of course not! While yes, he may be ‘hulking’ he’s just tall, and it is true he too has scars that is also..  correct. But all I have seen from that poor man is niceness… he’s very polite and quiet, nowhere near a monster. My aunt does not know what she's talking about, all she spouts is utter nonsense.. because she's never even tried speaking with him- our servants like him plenty!"

“Wow, you speak so highly of him!  ohhh– is he attractive too?"

“Stop speaking such foolish things about my guest!” Raspberry would yell, crossing her arms.

“So defensive! It was a joke!”

“Well, your jokes are terrible, Bumbleberry. You’re lucky I am not one of those overly dramatic ladies who take everything too seriously… you're even lucky I speak more casually with you in the first place. but I implore you, if you keep talking about my guest in that manner I will never speak to you again.”

Bumbleberry burst out in laughter, slamming her cup on the table which caused its contents to spill upon it… not like she noticed… not like she even cared nor minded it— Raspberry just stared at her with a sigh,

“If you are so curious about what my guest looks like, I suggest you come visit my manor next time we meet.”

“Ohhh?? Are you sure about that? I’ll probably charm him to death, take him away from you...” Bumbleberry snickered.

“You? Charm him? You’d at best overwhelm the poor man,” A shake of the head from Raspberry, who took a sip of her tea.

“I am super charming, Raspberry, how dare you say I am not!” Feigning offense, the silly noble lady would put a hand to her chest with a dramatic gasp. It finally got a chuckle out of Raspberry, who decided to loosen up a bit.. a bit more. She already felt at ease when she spoke with Bumbleberry… but there still remained a wall that she had to still, unfortunately, keep up. It was something she could not unlearn, not now, not anytime soon it seemed…

But the two would continue talking, talking talking talking… and eventually, Raspberry had to so sadly head home. She had her fun, but she wished she could’ve evaded home for longer… alas, if she did, her father would throw a fit in ‘worry’ of where the hell his daughter went. They seldom interacted in normal ways other than when he got into arguments with her, so she was always ever so curious as to why he sought the need to control her life in the first place... but those were thoughts for later. There was actually something she wanted to do when she arrived home, and that was talking with Dark Choco. All she wanted to know was if he would stay or if he would not.

A small little.. teeny weenie part of her was hoping he was here to stay. She needed more of a change of scenery in her life, in the house as well, this flash of black against all of the pink was always very nice to see. It’s what she was thinking about when she got out of the carriage that brought her home, thanking the coachman as she made her way inside.

“Excuse me,” She’d say to a nearby maid as she entered, “Have you… perhaps… seen that fellow I brought in not long ago? Black hair and all?”

The said maid would perk up a bit, “Oh… oh! Lady Raspberry, he’s in his room. It is.. where he mostly stays.”

“I thought so, thank you,” Raspberry would give her a kind smile, once again heading off somewhere– to the room Dark Choco stayed in of course! Knocking on the door once she was there, and brushing her coat off just to make sure she was pristine and perfect… (like always)

And the door opened, revealing the man himself! Same as he looked before, but a little cleaner,

“Oh it is you, Lady Raspberry… is there something you need..?”

He looked a little nervous, she could tell quite easily, so she’d once again have to give a very warm expression, “Just Raspberry is fine, thank you. Can you come with me to the drawing-room? I have something I wish to discuss with you… I’ll have tea brought out as well.”

(How much tea would she be drinking today? Plenty it seemed!)

His nervousness visibly intensified, it made her feel bad, but she hoped to ease his worries with her ultimate decision. Her father would not approve of what she did, but she did not care! This was a prince, a former one, but still… he was once royalty. She cannot just leave him to go roaming about again and possibly be attacked again. She knew he was strong, but without a weapon? One could consider themself just about weak!

“..if you need me to… I can.”

“Good! Follow me, follow me,” She’d motion him to follow, leading him off to one of the sitting rooms where she left him to sit as she got a maid to prepare tea, then sitting down herself…waiting… still noticing his overwhelming nervousness as he sat across from her. How he fidgeted with his hands especially. It was what continued to make her feel bad, but she’d also continue to try to reassure herself that he’d be happy with what she decided. That maid couldn’t take any longer, now could she?

But alas, alas! She’d come back, setting out the cups and the teapot, pouring the tea– and then leaving the two be to drink the tea that was served. It was what Raspberry did, once again noticing Dark Chocos' actions.. his hesitance that stemmed from that nervousness.

“The tea was served, you should try it. I picked a good flavor too! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.”

“Oh- right.. I apologize,” He’d bow his head slightly, and picked up his very own teacup… taking in the fragrance of its contents before going to taste it. His face brightened slightly, not having been entirely used to something so sweet but.. absolutely loving it apparently.

“Well, as you know, I brought you here for a reason. We could've spoken in your room.. but- this seems much more fitting. No one will bother us here, and no one will eavesdrop rudely.”

“Right..” He nodded along.

“I just have wanted to ask… how long do you intend to stay here?”

Dark Choco seemed to slightly panic, placing down his cup, “I- If you want me to leave I ca-”

“Shush!” She waved one of her hands, “I was not asking you to leave. It’s simply a question."

“I… I see… I… do not know…”

“What do you mean?” Raspberry would enquire, leaning forward in curiosity.

“I have… not had a stable form of shelter in a long time. I believe I've found myself far too comfortable... I apologize for overstaying my welcome, it is best that I go if I am not wanted.."

The woman would just shake just her head and sigh, “No no, I am not complaining that you’ve been here for a prolonged amount of time. If anything I would like you to remain, I was actually going to suggest that you stay here. If you’d like to remain within our grand household, but if you’d like to go then…”

“You’d allow me to stay?”

“If you wish to,” She’d shrug, "I don't see why you should not, we've plenty of room for you."

“...Why? Why do you continue to show me kindness?” His words were becoming fairly serious, wanting proper confirmation- so it brought Raspberry of her rather casual attitude to become more.. serious in turn.

“Because I pity you, and I respect you. Though you are no longer a prince… you were once one. I can’t just sit here, with my honor and everything I have, and deny you sanctuary. Do you not yearn for somewhere to stay? Somewhere comfortable? Is that not why you’ve stayed here even after already getting better?”

“...But I do not deserve it-”

“Bah- Stop with that nonsense! ‘I don't deserve this I don't deserve that’, listen to yourself– Even if you’ve done so many horrible things, as I told you, you’re not doing them now. Sometimes it is fine to be selfish, and you may be selfish right now and take up my offer though you think you do not deserve it.”

He was quiet as if he did not know what to say.. well- that was the truth. So Raspberry would continue further, “As I said before as well, as long as you are within our manor, You are under my protection. Even if we are strangers, I want to help you.”

“Why?”

“Again with this? Because I am smart enough to understand that you’re someone who has had a rough existence for years now. I can see it in your face! Your entire demeanor! Your clothing!! Hence why I want to do something good for someone… and this someone happens to be you.”

Another span of silence from him.. the only thing he did was fumble with his hands some more and stare at the floor.

When he finally would speak again, it was yet another question, “...How can I repay you for your kindness?”

“You do not need to repay me, not at all,” Raspberry would say, almost proudly, “Because I am simply here to help you. Your.. knight in shining armor, if you will! And You know, if you do not want your identity known here, we can give you a different name. A different appearance too! But I can’t help you with your hair until you grow it out more. I have lots of work to do, certainly.”

It seemed as if she finally, finally reassured Dark Choco, an unexpected light chuckle coming from him out of all people, “Your words are… interesting.. but thank you.. for this and everything else.”

“It is my pleasure. But now, do you simply wish to talk and finish this pot of tea with me? Since you’re staying here long-term.. It's about time I sit down and get to know much more about you.”

He’d blink for a moment, before nodding and giving her a small smile, “I would like that.”

“Good! Now first– what is your favorite dessert?”

Chapter Text

“You did what?!

..That was the first thing Raspberry Tart would say in response to Raspberry's announcement, to him in person in his office, that she had told Dark Choco he could stay and that she wished for him to stay in the first place.  Admitting such a thing in the face of her father, her confidence and even apparent ‘disobedience’ unwavering, as she looked on at the angry man with a straight face. He had snapped the ink pen he was writing with right into two, discarding it by throwing it across the room.. he was absolutely seething.

“I said what I said father, I apologize for being rebellious, but I truly believe he should stay.”

“...You insubordinate fool! You cling to such a man, for what reason? To spite me? To spite all of your suitors, all of the people who I’ve had set up for you, and who you’ve turned down? Why this man of all of them..? What makes this stranger special to you, you ignorant excuse of a daughter-” Was her father's response, he was even shaking from how angry he was.

“Father… I have no intention of courting this man. I simply believe he should stay, you must hear my reasonings for this conclusion of mine. Please calm down and let me explain.”

It would seem as if Raspberry Tart would soon calm, sitting back down in his chair and leaning back…

“Go on then, tell me whatever idiotic excuses you have…”

Further ignoring his negative wording, Raspberry would clear her throat… slightly nervous in even beginning to try to explain her reasoning even SHE believed was slightly strange… Either way, it was how she felt…

“Father, the man I’ve brought into our house is none other than the son of the king of the Dark Cacao Kingdom. He is Dark Choco Cookie, one cannot deny his resemblance to the prince nor deny the fact he admitted to me that that exactly is his true identity. I know you may say that he is indeed a monster as has been said over and over again by others… that he will hurt us because he has done horrible things in the past… but from what I’ve seen and experienced, he is in a vulnerable state and outwardly expresses his guilt and remorse for his past actions. He has implied to me that he was under the control of a curse… and he is free of it now. He is not a violent person father, please believe and understand my words.. my countless reasons.. my insistence on allowing him to stay. He has nowhere else to go where he will be safe."

For once in his life, Raspberry’s father showed a different expression that was not anger nor hatred, or even annoyance… but an expression of utter surprise. He looked at his daughter dumbly, blinking a couple of times, taking in the mass of information she spouted out at him.

“...You are telling me… the former prince of the Dark Cacao is living in our home?”

“Yes, father, exactly as I said,” Raspberry nodded, holding her hands together and absolutely squeezing the hell out of them because she was hoping he would not have an outburst about this… much more of one, at that.

Instead of blowing up at her about this… he just let out a long exhale,

“...I know, you are so stubborn that you will not allow me to force him out. So for this once, I will grant you your wish… only if you work harder to become the future head of our grand household than ever before. You already have such a long way to go… now you’ve made it harder for yourself, it’s a fair trade for keeping a traitor to his own kingdom within the walls of our manor. Do you understand, Raspberry?”

A relieved sigh would come from Raspberry, making a bowing motion toward her father,

“Of course, I won’t let you down.”

“You’d better not.. and in addition, you are responsible for whatever he does. You will be the keeper of that dangerous man because even as I allow him here, I do not trust him. Do whatever with him.. disguise him and not let anyone know of his true identity. I do not want your idiotic actions more so ruining the reputation of our household. Do you understand that as well?”

“I do, I promise I won’t let anything horrible happen... I will protect the honor of our household...” Another nod and bow from Raspberry.

“Do not let anyone else know of his true identity either. Not your friends… not our servants, not anyone. I believe I’ve made myself clear enough…”

“You have, please place your trust in your daughter that she will not fail you..” She was becoming exhausted with all of these promises… she had to do so much to reassure her father that nothing bad would happen. Such a heavy burden, it was nauseating, but she kept calm outwardly.

“Good,” He stared at her as if he was quite literally looking down at her, “Now, leave me.. I’ve better things to do than continue droning on about this topic… you’d better get started at what I’ve told you to do.”

“I will, father. Please have a nice rest of your day,” One last bow towards Raspberry Tart, and this exhausted daughter of his would leave the room, shutting the doors behind her and deflating slightly now that all of that was over…

“Are you alright?”

Ah right, Dark Choco… she left him outside of the room to wait for her. His face showed concern because she did certainly look tired.. but Raspberry just smiled at him in an attempt to reassure him,

“I’m fine, don’t worry about me. Talking with my father can be slightly exhausting, I have to walk on eggshells around him sometimes… but do not worry, I have everything sorted out.”

“I heard bits and pieces of the conversation… I did not want to eavesdrop but I unintentionally did so.. I apologize.”

“Bah, do not apologize, my father is a very loud man,” She waved him off, “Just know everything is alright and.. we have a lot ahead of us!”

“We..?” Dark Choco questioned, narrowing his eyes in confusion.

“If you didn’t hear it, the conditions of my father allowing you to stay here is… if we change your identity slightly. At least some form of disguise, and a new name… I was already thinking of that before but he solidified the idea. Are you alright with that?”

“As long as it doesn’t burden you, yes,” He’d nod.

“And… another one of his conditions is that I must watch over you like you’re some child… it’s almost funny… but yes that is his condition.”

“Again, if you truly want to.”

“I do! Believe me– I cannot sit here and let something potentially bad happen to you, your staying here is a good thing in my eyes. Please don’t worry, you’re no burden to me, I actually quite enjoy helping other people,” Raspberry went on and explained, continuously trying to really get it through his poor fellow's head that she’s not at all bothered by him OR doing anything for him. She was used to doing things for people!

“...Alright…”

Raspberry would again smile, “So starting tomorrow, we can begin to do all of this… identity changing activities… and I can take you to one of the best tailors I know. You do need some clothes for yourself! To fit into the fashion and style of our kingdom and to lessen how much you stick out.  But for now, I’ve things to do… you should explore the manor more. I notice you usually stick to the same places, but now as you officially live here… be as free as you wish. Just don’t go into areas you obviously can’t go in, of course.”

“I see, thank you Raspberry.”

“You’re very welcome, now off you go! Explore to your heart's content, this is your home now.”

The very overwhelmingly kind lady would leave afterward after giving him another sweet smile and a wave, therefore leaving Dark Choco on his own. On his own to… traverse the manor and quite literally tour it all on his own! He was rather hesitant to make his first movement, but in time he decided to go the opposite way that Raspberry did. Walking calmly throughout the mostly quiet halls of the grand manor, seeing a maid or two walking past him, the former prince took to knowing more about the manor very… well actually.

There were plenty of rooms that he passed by, rooms that most definitely belonged to Raspberry’s family members.. he actually started to become curious about them. He hadn’t been here long, and the only individuals he saw that were clearly related to Raspberry were her father, a man who looked at him as if he hated him (He does), and a woman, who assumably was one of her aunts. She who previously, on an earlier day,  had looked like she was watching him.. observing him...  and once he looked her way she became so frightened that she left as quickly as possible. Were they scared of him..? If they were, he wasn’t offended.. he was by far used to this kind of thing. It only made him uncomfortable that he was being watched by these people too as if he was some creature to be observed.

Perhaps that could change? He hoped it would because if not, he would… quietly be bothered by it.

The next place of interest Dark Choco took.. well… interest in was the sizable library that was full of books (obviously) and well furnished, he could imagine sitting in this library for hours and reading some of the books, he did like to read quite a lot whenever he had the time to. Now he truly had all of the time in the world, didn’t he? The mere thought made him happy, but he couldn’t stay for long. He didn’t want to intrude on the individuals who were already in the library in the first place… not many but few enough that he left as to not be a ‘nuisance’.

Room by room he’d peer into, the very luxurious dining hall in which he could imagine the extensive family of House Raspberry all eating within.. but a part of him knew, from the strained relationships he had witnessed, that this family wasn’t one to each all together often at all. He could only guess this, such an assumption was actually correct, but it was an incredibly sad thought...

There was the main hall too, the entrance of the manor overall. Everything was so large and expansive, luxurious too.. bright.. very bright, unlike the castle he lived in whenever he was younger and... happier. He loved his home dearly, but this was a very welcome new experience. He could definitely get used to this! But in order to not keep himself in one place for long.. Dark Choco went through another hallway…

In this hallway, he observed portraits on the walls. They were either of other family members, ancestors, or scenes of the past... even general paintings that were just pretty and nice to put up on the walls. Though one of them especially caught his eye… because it was by far one of the biggest paintings shown. It had its own little section too, to make people look at it more than the others.

The portrait itself was of a man, a woman, and a child sitting on the woman's lap. The child looked very familiar to him, and once he pieced it together– he realized..

Was this Raspberry and her family?

He had seen Raspberry Tart once or twice, so much that he could certainly identify the man in the painting as him. He looked happier here, less old and worn out, smiling even. The woman beside him looked incredibly sweet, and very kind,  with curly yet long light pink hair.. he could guess where Raspberry had gotten her looks from. Then Raspberry herself but as a child, she definitely looked happy too. But it was something that looked rather genuine, even in the form of a painting, it overall exuded a genuinely happy feeling all throughout it.

Honestly, all he wondered now is what happened to make things the way they were... Outwardly, Raspberry Tart was nowhere near what this old painting would make you think. That's the impression he had gotten, especially from what he heard the fellow say towards his daughter… concerning, hateful words.

But his thoughts would be cut off, being interrupted by a figure who approached him. It would be curious to literally anybody as to why he was staring so deeply into this painting…

“Ah, so you’re the fellow my cousin brought in?”

Dark Choco paused for a moment, then peered over to see who was speaking to him. The man looked similar to Raspberry, they were related of course, but his hair was a lighter pink and tied up.. along with that he most noticeably wore a hat.

Before he could respond, the man continued further, “Pardon my rudeness, I am Raspberry Mousse Cookie. But you may just call me Mousse if it makes it easier for you.”

“It is.. nice to meet you, Mousse,” Dark Choco would reply, hesitant to say his own name in return.. they were going to hide his identity, right? So- not even some of her family members could know who he truly was… right?

Those thoughts were immediately dashed as Mousse would continue speaking,

“Do not worry yourself with telling me your name, I already know who you are. Raspberry told me… I am… going to be honest with you. I do not trust you, yet she does.. her judgment is wholly different than mine. I mean no ill will against you, Dark Choco, but I truly insist you keep yourself as least of a burden to my cousin as possible. She deals with enough as it is, and having to observe and watch over you and help you is just adding onto all that she already has to do…

Mousse just shook his head, walking past the tall man... but turning back to him and adding,

“I hope you heed my words, former prince of the Dark Cacao Kingdom. This kingdom may seem all sunshine and rainbows, but behind closed doors that is not the case. I almost pity what you’ve been dragged into by even being here… but that is that, I can't change it. I can hope you can adapt to it, for Raspberry herself already holds so much hope in you already... that I cannot understand. I do not wish to overwhelm you, but this is a mere… warning of sorts."

With such strange words, Mousse would go on his way.

Dark Choco simply watched him leave… slightly confused, dumbfounded even. From his childhood and any other time he visited this kingdom, he only knew it as someplace that was very warm... very full of happiness... just overall exciting compared to the rather serious place he called home. He loved his home, he always would, but being able to further express himself and have all the fun he wanted was always-- just that! Fun! He was just starting to understand that maybe the happiness of this kingdom wasn't a lie, but more so...

The nobles, the grand berry houses, kept it together and did not have as much time to be happy as regular people did. All of their outward actions being facades... to mask the truth underneath. Did Hollyberry know of this? Or was the woman who was once queen completely unaware...?? He'd never know, well, he'd never know now. He couldn't simply go up and ask her... he was sure she did not want to see him anyways.

But he was certain he'd been through worse than this, painful experiences that he could never forget. Truly, truly, was the life of the nobility of the Hollyberry kingdom worse than what he had to face before ending up here...??

I don't want to make Mousse an asshole but let's just say he cares a lot about Rasp and is very... VERY-- protective :>

Chapter Text

More changes would soon come to the former prince… most importantly his wardrobe and looks. Raspberry was thinking ahead on how exactly they’d pull this off in a much more secret manner, a way not to have the rumors swirling about and giving her a massive headache. She could simply imagine it, people talking about how Raspberry of House Raspberry was seen with the most mysterious of men and how she most definitely was courting this man in some way shape or form– oh she was already getting a headache even conjuring up all of these possibilities within her head! But she knew what she was going to do already to ensure none of that would happen.

First, she’d make ‘disguises’ for them… basically, she’d cloak both of them which would mostly hide their identities. Secondly, she’d use a more secret way to get to her favorite tailor's shop, through the less populated back alleys of the kingdom. Thirdly, she’d contact that tailor who she trusted very much and who would keep her mouth shut about the fellow she was about to see. Lastly, they’d get this all over with and Dark Choco would come out of it all with new Hollyberian clothing that fit him exactly and a proper permanent disguise to keep people from seeing who he truly was. Raspberry would do that last part, she thought herself very useful in the way of restyling his hair.. she took such care of hers! It would be fitting to show off such a skill, it was something she was proud of after all.

(She too, took care of her own cousin's hair from time to time. Mostly for special occasions where they both had to be especially fancy, so she’d turn his fluffy hair into fluffy ringlets. She would almost weep with how proud she was at the results and Mousse would show her an annoyed expression.)

Thus, her plan was set into motion and was currently processing smoothly enough. She and Dark Choco were walking through those mentioned back alleys, Raspberry trying her hardest to not feel uncomfortable under the dark garment that made her feel the true heat of the Hollyberry Kingdom. It was as if she’d melt any second, but through her own resolve, she’d push through… there was no way she’d let a dark-colored cloak of all things make her feel weak. Especially when her new friend who followed after her quietly didn’t seem to struggle at all– she was not going to look weak in front of anyone either! So, therefore, she’d persevere until the two reached the backdoor of her preferred and most favored tailor’s shop.

The door was already unlocked in preparation for their arrival, so with swiftness, Raspberry opened the door and went inside– allowing Dark Choco to come in, and she closed the door behind him. She’d remove her cloak with an exasperated sigh,

“I could not deal with another single second of that, I do not like wearing such heavy things.”

“It was bad for you…?” Dark Choco questioned as he removed the cloak over himself, he didn’t see her struggle as much as her words made it seem she did.

“...well… no… yes? That is beside the point! We’re here now, and I will have to put it back on when we leave. I hope that is not anytime soon.”

The shop was closed today, so there was no one around but the two of them and the tailor… speaking of which-

“My my, you’ve finally arrived. I was almost thinking you were not about to come… I do hope this is worth it for my day off-”

She spoke at first without seeing who was with her customer, and she had dropped what she was holding as she looked at Dark Choco. Looking back at her, Dark Choco was equally surprised to see the woman. It was as if they knew each other… Raspberry was certainly confused at this new predicament.

“Chocolate… Bonbon?” Dark Choco would say, his eyes wide.

“..So.. so it is you…”

The tailor, Chocolate Bonbon Cookie, approached Dark Choco and…. Quite literally smacked him over the head. Even for someone who was shorter than he was, he towered over just about everyone, she managed to reach his head and gave him quite the ‘bonk’ which caused him to lean over as it hurt … surprisingly??

“You— where have you been?! The last thing I knew, you were banished from your kingdom and were gone for years! Now you’ve come here?? And you’ve not even thought to come to see me until now?! I’ve been so worried!”

Raspberry looked from Dark Choco to Chocolate Bonbon rapidly and was the definition of utterly fucking confused, “What is happening right now???”

“Pardon my words, Raspberry. It's just that this lousy fellow has seldom visited his auntie and she’s very upset by that fact,” Bonbon crossed her arms.

“You two are related?!”

“Not in a traditional sense, but when he was little he called me ‘Auntie Bonbon’... and he continued to call me as such up until he was banished and he disappeared.”

“I… I am sorry, I would have visited but… there were many things that held me back,” Dark Choco sighed, frowning.

“I’d imagine, I assume you’re on your own now? Disconnected from those people?”

“Yes, but it's a very… complicated story,” He nodded, it was so complicated that he felt that he wasn’t ready to tell it all. It would take time for him to tell quite literally anybody because what he went through in the Cookies of Darkness was something he never wished to go through ever again. All he could think about was her and how she had such strong control over him… it made him shiver.

“Well, you can tell me all about it later.. that is that, but what is now is that we need to get you a new wardrobe,” Bonbon would say, having noticed his unease, “It makes me incredibly uncomfortable to see you in clothing that does not suit you! Raspberry, you should know that green is not his color. I thought I taught you better…”

“Ahaha… I'm sorry… it was all we had that could fit him…” Raspberry sulked, “It’s exactly why I need your help with making him new clothing. Or alternately, I can buy already made clothing.”

“Hmm..” Bonbon glanced at Dark Choco, “I could do that… but I already am thinking of new outfits. This child was once my muse, you see, he even inspires me now in this sorry state of his.”

“Ah but… perhaps we could do both? I apologize! I want to get him clothing much sooner rather than later, I know you are no slow worker and I admire your work overall, I just wish to get him out of the rather ‘unfitting’ clothing you see here and quickly into something much more…”

“Suitable?”

“Exactly!”

As the two women discussed the specifics, Dark Choco looked elsewhere around the shop, it was a little different from how it was when he was younger. He did not mind that Raspberry was taking over with the whole clothing thing… he truly didn’t care. As long as it aided in shielding his true identity to the public he was completely fine with her changing his outward appearance entirely. Though what had caught his attention was a framed photograph nearby… it made him curious enough for him to go towards it and see what it exactly was-

Oh.

It was a picture of him when he was happy alongside Chocolate Bonbon. He actually remembered taking this picture… happily standing beside the woman he always called ‘auntie’ and posing for the photo that he truly did not think would have much meaning. It was to mark the moment she made one of his signature outfits! But even if it was a pleasant sight to most... he could not help but feel jealous of his past self. The one who always smiled and was always there for others, who wasn’t afraid to do things like go out in public and talk to others and have them absolutely dazzled by him.

But his ‘auntie’ loved this picture so much that she had it framed, and put somewhere where not only she could see it but others could too. It marked how much he meant to her... but it just… was not him anymore, he feared she was utterly disappointed in what he became in the end. The opposite of this happy figure… it made him feel horrible, such feelings bubbling within him that could not be stopped.

“Dark Choco..?”

Raspberry’s words cut through his thoughts, and he turned around to face her. She was now closer behind him, almost reaching out towards him but stopping when he peered over at her.

“We- we were wanting to discuss what you thought about some concepts Bonbon came up with… I- are you okay? Your face looks awful.”

“I’m fine.”

“Are you sure? You can tell me-”

“I’m fine,” He repeated, “Let's just… see what she thought of.”

As Dark Choco passed by Raspberry, she was nearly going to follow him but– She went to see what he was so distracted by previously.

‘Ah’ , She thought, ‘So this is what was upsetting him?’

Looking it over, Raspberry would realize that she really wasn’t attentive to what was in Bonbons' shop… quite embarrassingly unattentive that she never noticed this photo. To her, it was very interesting to look at as it finally gave her some point of reference when it came to what Dark Choco looked like before– he truly was what one could call handsome. It wasn’t as if that wasn’t the case now but… in the least, he actually looked happy in the past. It made her sad for him since she knew it already troubled him to remember the past.

Oh, if only she knew more, she’d actually be able to understand him better. Perhaps one day he would tell her more… though in the meantime, Raspberry would focus on the task at hand. She followed Dark Choco, and would proceed to have another lengthy discussion with Bonbon (Dark Choco included this time!) about clothing and the like– She did have already-made outfits that fit Dark Choco nearly perfectly but did need some touchups. It’d all be done then and there after all, to give Dark Choco something to wear (that actually suited him) that day and some more suits for the future,  it made Dark Choco truly wonder how much Raspberry was even spending on him here…-

But he knew that Bonbon's eyes sparkled with joy when she saw him look so fancy and so proper in one of her signature suits, he looked so good wearing her brand, and boy was this woman proud of it. Nearly shedding a tear over remembering the past, even, he was truly her muse even in his less outwardly happy form. Raspberry just complimented him and it made him feel… odd.

Regardless, at the end of the day and after all of this clothing nonsense.. the sun was already setting in the sky and everything was becoming much cooler and calmer within this rather hot kingdom. It relieved Raspberry, who was talking through the payment for the clothing and when they’d arrive, the next day, and the future of coming back to fit the brand new outfits that Bonbon was to create. It was all a lot for Dark Choco to take in but he knew it was to disguise his appearance… there was still the matter of actually changing his looks apart from his clothes. He didn’t know how exactly Raspberry could do all of that, completely unaware of her skills… oh he’d see.

After recloaking themselves, the two would go ahead and progress right back to Raspberry Chateau- but someone, or rather the sight of someone, would stop them from this progression. The former prince’s attention was drawn to something he saw in one of the entrances to these back alleys–  a performance with many people who too were drawn to it and crowding the stage where the beautiful dancer moved with ease alongside her fellow dancers.

“Oh, I know her. In passing, I’ve never spoken to her… that's Rose Cookie, she’s very popular because of her dancing of course,” Raspberry would say, standing beside him to watch, “Hah… do you want to know something funny?”

“What is it?”

“Mousse has a very… very large crush on that woman. Deny it he will, but one cannot help but notice how his face gets all red in any form of talk about her.”

“Really..?”

“Yes! Look, it may be hard, but you can definitely see his hat poking out through the crowd– he’s here watching and I know it,” Raspberry nodded, scanning through the crowd and eventually pointing towards a certain direction where she spotted him, “Look, there he is!”

“Ah..” Dark Choco looked, and soon enough even he’d notice. How odd.

“He comes to every one of her shows, he skips out on things he’s meant to do and prioritizes seeing her… he hasn’t even spoken to her yet. He may act serious and the like, but in all truth, he’s a coward who cannot even talk to the woman he likes. Don’t let him bother you, alright?”

“... I’ve been through worse, I will be fine.”

Raspberry shook her head, “Don’t just say that– either way.. Mousse isn’t bad at all he’s just somewhat… what's the word…”

“Protective?”

“Indeed, you could say we’re the only two in House Raspberry who are always on good terms. We’re close, he may be my cousin but he’s more like an older brother to me.”

“..I see…”

“You may be used to being bothered but I certainly don’t want him bothering you because he’s suspicious of you. If he understands that I trust you, soon enough he’ll learn to do so as well. If not… I’ll teach him a fine lesson and not talk to him for a whole day. Or perhaps I’ll tease him about Rose… or beat him in a sparring match and rub it in his face… oh the possibilities are endless.”

Dark Choco would chuckle, “You two truly are close.”

“Mhm! He’ll come around to you, I know it. Let's get going before the day truly ends…we can watch another one of her performances at a later date.. if you’d like. Maybe tag along with Mousse because you know he’s going to be there as well.”

Raspberry would get moving, Dark Choco following after and replying, “It’s a… nice thought.”

“Just if you’re comfortable with it, of course.”

“Right…”

Finally, they would be back at the manor.. and Raspberry's appearance-changing activities could finally begin. She decided to do this whole process in her room… there was enough well– room for it all to be done. So with her having put more casual clothing on, she’d announce to a seated (and kind of confused and curious) Dark Choco,

“Let us begin!”

Thus, she’d show him her true ‘power’. From dyeing the white streaks in his hair black to washing his hair thoroughly then to cutting it and styling it… Raspberry was truly talented and Dark Choco was in awe that he did not even know what to say. Maybe she should have taken up being a beautician over being a swordswoman but… let us be honest, she was equally skilled at doing both. She worked so diligently as if this was normal for her, and it was.

It was a soothing process either way, but it soon eventually ended with him sitting in front of the large mirror of her vanity with her making her finishing touches.

“You have very pretty hair, Dark Choco… that is… a little awkward to say, but it’s the truth. It makes even me jealous.”

“... it's… not as good as it used to be,” He’d sigh, staring at his hands. Her compliments continued to make him feel odd, he didn't understand why...

“Who says it's still not lovely? You can always grow it back out, or if you want to keep it short I can help you with that. You have complete freedom, you can’t let the past stop you from doing what you wish, you know?”

“...I know but the past is…”

Raspberry frowned at his response, but patted his shoulder, “As I always say, the past is the past. It may hurt but I am sure you’ll eventually heal and flourish once again.”

“You’re too kind to me…”

“Ah, quit saying that, you deserve as much. Now what do you think of the name ‘Bittersweet Choco’ as a fake name? It’s not quite Dark Choco… but… ahhh I could not think of anything else–”

“I like it.”

“And what do you think of your new look, I think I’m finished. It’s not much but it’s the least I could do to hide that signature ‘former prince Dark Choco’ look.”

Dark Choco looked at the mirror and squinted his one functioning eye, “I… like it?”

Raspberry paused for a moment, before covering her mouth to muffle some of her oncoming laughter,

“Ahaahaha… we should… we should consider getting you some glasses next!”

Notes:

Honestly, this chapter holds a LOT of headcanons that are mostly based on canon itself.

Since Ovenbreak and Kingdom are clearly in similar but different universes, at least in the Kingdom Universe-- Chocolate Bonbons' whole brand is located in the Hollyberry Kingdom. Like her base of operations, she's very popular ofc

I don't think Bonbon has known Dark Choco as long as I imply in the fic in canon but SCREW IT she's his auntie, it's official in my heart.

And a little fun fact to end things off, it's very funny how I got my hair done today (my sister made my hair PURPLE) and I've written a little about Dark Choco getting his own done... sort of... akin to the process that was done with mine.
