Chapter Text
3 months.
How had it been 3 months since the war ended. 3 months since peace was finally a word Katara understood. 3 months since Zuko had been crowned FireLord and 3 months since Katara and Aang finally started trying for a baby.
Katara knew sometimes it took several months to even years to conceive. But everytime she had Toph examine her for a tiny heartbeat only to come up short, she felt insurmountable disappointment.
Katara was a mom all her life it seemed. Always being the voice of reason, the mature one, the buzzkill, the nurturer and the provider. But she had always wanted an actual child of her own. When her 16th birthday came around, the year that most young women in her tribe would start thinking about finding a partner and having children, she wanted nothing more.
However the war trumped all hope, all allowance for yearning as she just couldn't bring a child into the world as it was. She wasn't even given much time to think about it, not that she didn't lie awake some nights pondering names.
When the Avatar came into her life he was nothing but a goofy child in her eyes and she supposed in the end he would always be that to her. But the day she restarted his heart on the back of his loyal flying beast, she saw something more. A companion, a powerful bender as she recalled was her perfect match. She saw someone who clearly loved her and someone who could provide her with what she desired most, willingly, eagerly.
When Aang woke from his coma, head swimming, eyes stinging at the sudden harsh light of day, Katara kissed him almost immediately. Then and there and she knew it was an act born of relief, hope and firm decision. He might not have made her heart thump in her chest, maybe he didn't make her inner thighs burn or her lower stomache flutter but she loved him. And maybe she didn't love him as she should but Katara was one who was able to sacrifice what she had to for the bigger picture. As long as Noone was hurt or wronged in the process. What she didn't know is how much hurt and wrong doing would come from this choice, her actions and her false hopes.
The conversation about children started with Katara blatantly asking Aang if his culture allowed international breeding. To which Aang blushed deeply and fumbled with his vocal affirmation.
"Good. I'd like to start trying if you would like to." She stated, sitting on his bed. His room was one of many in a communal hall of VIP rooms in the fire nation palace, shared with sokka, suki, toph and the firelord himself.
Aang had given it a moment of thought before nodding his head sheepishly. Though he didn't jump her like she'd expected any hot blooded male to. He merely sat in awkward silence with her for many minutes before perking up and suggesting a game of water tag.
Katara was used to this though. Aang just didn't have any seeming desire to hop into bed with her. He was still so immature at 15 and while he performed at a satisfactory level when the time came, he just didn't put much into it.
The months that followed resulted in a disappointing and frustrating series of mediocre beddings and negative results.
Afterward, Katara would go to her provided but unnecessary room and groan into her pillows. She didn't even like Aang touching her that way, he was nice and sure he wasn't bad looking but she just didn't feel sparks in any way and it was all becoming a bitter chore with no reward.
It was on one of these nights of miserable self isolation that Katara heard a rare but familiar knock on her door.
She let out an exasperated sigh and raised her face from her pillow.
"Come in." She tried not to sound too irritated just in case Aang was coming to check on her. As much as she wanted to abandon the facade relationship she still cared for him and didn't want to hurt him with her agitation. She pulled herself up and turned so she was sitting crossed legged on her bed so as not to reveal her pillow screaming session.
The door clicked and creaked open slowly, revealing an oddly comforting face. Dark shaggy hair loose from its usual crowned top knot updo, falling in thick whisps over bright amber eyes.
"Hey. Sorry to bother you." Zukos voice caused Kataras shoulders to relax slightly as the potential for confrontation and teetering heartbreak vanished.
"It's ok. What's going on?" Katara asked, shifting her gaze back to the bed.
Zuko cleared his throat and once he was fully inside the room he shut the door gently behind him.
"Mai was uh…wondering if I could look after her little brother tomorrow seeing as I don't have any meetings to attend." He paused, fiddling with the sash that tied his robe around his waist. Katara let her gaze move back to him, inhaling sharply as she noticed his bare collarbones peeking out from the confines of the crimson fabric he adorned.
Katara tried to focus on what Zuko had said instead of the question of how much skin she would see if he simply untied his robe.
"Sounds like the perfect job for you." She said sarcastically with a friendly smile, forcing herself to meet his eyes.
He shuffled awkwardly.
"I was wondering if….maybe…you'd be able to help me?"
Katara felt a weird twinge in her stomach. The timing couldn't be worse honestly, but she couldn't resist nor in good conscience reject the request of help looking after a sweet little toddler. She was surprised Mai would even ask Zuko of all people to manage something so serious and challenging but then again, Mai wasn't a very caring, considerate or passionate person. One of the reasons she was sure her and Zuko's relationship didn't last. Not that Katara would ever discredit Mais act of bravery in the name of love that aided in Zuko escaping from the boiling rock with Suki and Kataras brother and father.
Katara hummed in response.
"Sure Zuko. I'll be here, bring him to me and we will look after him together." She said matter of factly, trying to hide the wavering tone that might come forth, inspired by her roaming thoughts.
Zuko looked relieved, his face relaxing as he thanked Katara profusely before heading back out the door and shutting it just as carefully as he had when he entered.
Katara didn't move right away once her late night visitor had gone. Her mind was betraying her and her relationship, and yet she just couldn't bring herself to care. Zuko swam into her thoughts as he had done a few times in the past. Fingers fussing with his sash, the hooded collar of his robe slipping down off his shoulders, down his strong biceps.
Katara finally lied back against the headboard, submitting to a dazed state of shameful lust and images of dark messy hair, blazing golden eyes, tight muscles, ivory skin being exposed…more…more. His soft raspy voice ghosting in her ears. Keywords and mid battle gasps and groans pulled from memory to be twisted into something far more sinful.
Katara whimpered quietly as her thighs instinctively clamped together, both in attempt to provide some relieving friction and to shut out the tingling vulnerable eagerness that she had never felt before and hoped for with Aang.
"Oh….fuck." Katara groaned in defeat as she let her fingers slip beneath her waistband and under her sarashi wraps.
Her legs fell open again, the position she was in helped her visualize and play pretend as her fingers grazed her quickly dampening pussy.
This was once a man she hated so strongly she barely contained the urge to kill him. A man that made her gut twist in a sickened knot when she saw him. But he had redeemed himself tenfold and now she didn't feel as conflicted about pushing her fingers into herself while moaning his name as she had a few times at the Western Air temple.
Katara shifted down the bed so she could lay her head back and close her eyes while she pumped her fingers into her aching heat.
It wasn't enough. And the knowledge of that made her thighs tighten in frustration and animalistic want as she tried all she might to push herself over the edge.
She needed something bigger, something thicker and longer. Something hot and pulsing, being driven into her by the former banished fire prince.
That awkward boyish smile turning into a predatory grin, his eyes smokey flames as his pupils dilate with primal lust.
Suddenly she could see Aang sitting in the chair in the corner of the room. His arms bound, his frame slumped, his expression both angry and absolutely crushed, watching his girlfriend getting pounded good and hard by his former enemy.
Zuko's low raspy voice, chuckling as she begs him to pump her full of his cum as he fucks her into her bed. The shuddering moan escaping his lips as he bites down on her shoulder and slams into her. His cock twitching, shooting thick ropes of cum deep inside of her, his DNA swimming into her womb with only one purpose.
Katara finally felt the unexpected bolt of electricity in her core. It radiated throughout her body as she shook against her own ministrations. His name tumbling out of her mouth along with a long moan and a couple of curses.
When her orgasm finally subsided, her breathing fast and harsh, her fingers slipping out of herself and her pants, she realized she was whimpering ever so softly again.
"Oh no." She sighed, staring up at the ceiling.
Katara managed to fall asleep some time later to the perfect picture of a pale skinned baby with near black hair and golden eyes.
Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Summary:
Katara helps Zuko babysit Tom-Tom.
Notes:
OK this chapter is just a quick hit of sweetness for you softies.
Also I know technically Tom-Tom would be like close to 3 at this point but in my head I couldn't not picture early 2 year old Tom-Tom.
.........
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Chapter Text
By the time Zuko knocked on Kataras door, she had contemplated going and seeking him out. She promised she would be in her room but realized they had never set a time to meet and she was getting restless. When she sat her cleared breakfast tray outside the door an hour prior she nearly left but decided it would be best not to at the risk of causing Zuko a panic attack should he show up while she was gone.
"Hey." Zuko said with a non exuberant tone as he pushed her door open, not even waiting for her to answer his knock. Katara felt a surge of nervous excitement as her eyes settled immediately on Tom-Tom, who was squirming in Zukos arms and trying with all his might to get a fistful of Zukos loose hair.
Katara stifled a giggle before standing and moving to take the toddler from him.
"Firelord Zuko, I'd think you'd have your hair up regardless of the small child trying to rip it out." She said with a good natured smirk. Tom-Tom turned his attention to Katara and her enticing hair loops, shrieking with glee as he clambered into her hold.
Zuko huffed and shut the door behind him.
"I could say the same for you. You have handles on either side of your face." He smiled back at her. Katara moved back to the bed, lying on her back instantly and holding the toddler up in the air above her. She cooed and babbled to him and her heart swelled in her chest at his happy mimicking.
"Flyin!!" The little one yelled, arms stretching out like wings.
Zuko sat on the edge of the bed. It was clear he had never done this before and once again katara questioned why he was chosen for this job.
"So why did Mai ask you to watch Tom-Tom? I thought you weren't together anymore?" She inquired gently, sitting back up and tickling Tom-Tom who's laughter filled the room.
Zuko adjusted his position awkwardly and cleared his throat.
"Yea we aren't together anymore but she said Noone else was available and she said she trusted me. Not a very thought out choice or statement but here we are." He answered quietly, gesturing at Katara and the baby.
Katara eyed Zuko carefully. He seemed like he wasn't just uncomfortable, he hated this. A small scowl on his face as he avoided actually looking at her or Mais little brother.
She slid off the bed with the tot and placed him on the floor, watching him toddle across the room at high-speed.
An impenetrable silence filled the air, save for the random squeels and raspberries bursting from Tom-Tom and his chubby little feet slamming into the wood floor.
"Do you not like children or is this just really awkward for you, because of Mai?" Katara pressed lightly. Turning her attention to Zuko only for brief intervals, ensuring she had an eye on the exploring child as much as possible.
"I guess I've just never been around children all that much." He said, finally allowing his gaze to fall on Tom-Tom, who had discovered Kataras hairbrush sitting just within reach on a short table.
"Oh….maybe this will help you get comfortable with them." She said, remembering her inappropriate divergence in family goals the night before.
"I don't know." Zuko said gruffly. Katara knew Zuko was a simple man for the most part when it came to his feelings. He felt something and that was it. Sure he had conflicts within himself over the major decisions but musings on things such as childcare just weren't something she was going to hear easily.
Despite Zukos indifferent attitude, she saw a small quirk at the corner of his mouth and his eyes softening as he watched Tom-Tom try desperately to consume Kataras hairbrush.
"Tom-Tom we don't eat that." Katara said with a small giggle as she crawled to the little boy.
"Brush?" Tom-Tom asked, pulling the object from his mouth, a trail of slobber following it.
"Yep. Brush Tom-Tom. See?" Katara took the brush form the baby and showed him how it worked, running it through her long brown hair.
Tom-Tom let out an ear shattering shriek and lunged for her hair loops, succeeding in his dire mission and yanking hard on one of them. Katara let out a sharp yelp and grabbed the small hand, trying to unfurl his fingers from the death grip on her hair.
Zuko was beside her in a second, quick to try and help but suddenly completely useless as he stuttered, big hands hesitating over tom-toms tiny ones.
"Katara…I don't know what to…he's so small….how…" he stammered as Katara repeatedly groaned the word OW and fought with the small boy.
Zuko finally slid a finger into Tom-Toms grasp, between Kataras hair and his palm and pushed gently. Tom-Tom furled his fingers around Zukos and Katara pulled back quickly, whimpering as she rubbed her scalp where the loops connected.
"Oh my Gods thank you." Katara said, wincing at the pain.
Zuko didn't respond, in fact he wasn't paying any attention to Katara, his eyes locked on the baby, who was looking back and forth between Katara and Zuko.
"Oops." He said, his voice so sweet and innocent it could melt the entire capitol right there. Zuko blinked at the baby, his finger still in the grip of the tiny hand.
"Are you OK?" Katara asked Zuko, as if she wasn't the one who should probably be checked for scalp bleeding.
"Oops." Tom-Tom said again, now he was walking to Zuko, still holding his finger, and climbing into his lap. The baby wrapped his short chubby arms across Zukos sides in an apologetic hug.
Katara would be focusing on how she, again, was the one who got quite honestly attacked, if it weren't for the overwhelming scene unfolding in front of her.
Zuko looked like he was stuck in a state of shock as the little one let his weight drop in Zukos lap, nestling into him. Big strong arms came to wrap around Tom-Tom and Katara felt her heart physically ache at the display.
"So do you like kids then?" She chuckled, watching the two boys embrace eachother.
"He's just..very sweet….I don't know." Zuko snapped out of his daze and moved his hands under the child's arms, lifting him up and handing him right to Katara.
Katara laughed again, taking the baby and giving him a hug herself, although the boy seemed to only have eyes for Zuko, reaching a hand out and repeatedly saying "oops. Sorry!."
Katara decided she was OK with Tom-Toms misdirection in apology as she spent the rest of the evening watching Zuko settle into caring for the child with her. Eventually he was on the floor on his back tickling Tom-Tom who sat on his stomache, shrieking and giggling. The wide goofy smile that was plastered on Zukos face would be an image Katara would never shake from her memories.
Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Summary:
Katara tumbles further into her overwhelming lust for Zuko, with some influence. Her relationship with Aang is straining without Aangs knowledge.
Notes:
I hope Noone expects there to be too much genuine ATLA/LOK plot. There is a story here but it's just going to be alot of raunchy, filthy lusting and kinkyness. Eventually there will be a lot of wholesomeness, fluff and heartbreak but for now it's just horny, unsatisfied and unfaithful Katara.
Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if you were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes
Chapter Text
"How was babysitting, Katara?" Aang always sounded so cheerful when he saw Katara. And once upon a time Katara loved that about him. But lately it was more disheartening than anything. She couldn't return his adoration and that understanding felt like ice in her veins.
"It went very well, Aang. Thank you." She said with a smile, flopping down on his bed.
Aang stood a few feet away, his eyes roaming Kataras tired form lounging on his bed.
"Hey Katara…i was wondering…" Oh here it comes. The rare and always awkward inquiry. For the first couple of months in their relationship it had been her who initiated this. Attempted, as she might, to desperately find the sparks she knew should be there. When they started trying Katara had been dragging him to bed as much as she could. Either lying there and trying to mask her cringe as he fumbled with the task or taking over herself just to have it done quickly and with at least some satisfaction. Although that was usually a bismall too.
"I'm tired Aang." She mumbled bitterly into the arm she had thrown over her face. She really wasn't all that tired but she was definitely not up for faking enthusiasm while he climbed on top of her.
Aang moved to the bed, clambering next to her and sitting on his knees.
"Oh…OK. I just thought maybe babysitting Tom-Tom might have had you…you know…baby crazy." He said with clear disappointment.
Katara sighed deeply and removed her arm from her face so she could meet his wounded gaze.
"I am, Aang. I've just had a long day. I don't have the energy." You would if it was Zuko. Katara shook the intruding thoughts away and reached a hand out to the Avatar.
"I can do the work this time." Aang said quietly, not much hope to his voice as he took the waterbenders outstretched hand in his.
Katara felt her body sink further into the mattress, her eyes training onto the ceiling and a very insincere smile adorning her face. She hoped Aang wasn't picking up on her blatant reluctance.
"Alright Aang." She said, ignoring his beaming expression. Ignoring him as he removed his clothing and hers. Ignoring him moving on top of her, only responding randomly for his benefit. It wasn't until he was nearing his climax when Zuko came back into her mind.
Imagine if this was Zuko on top of you. Her inner monologue said slyly. Zuko would know what he was doing. Probably have more to him too. Katara thought. She felt the surges of guilt and shame, almost heartbreak for her current partner as she threw her head back and indulged herself in her fantasies. If she was going to do this regardless she might as well enjoy it however she could.
Imagine Zuko thrusting into you. I wonder what his cock looks like, I bet it's long and girthy. Imagine that pounding into you while he pins you down and says horribly filthy things with that sexy, growling voice of his.
I bet he could get you pregnant, that fire nation royalty sperm would know the assignment and give you a beautiful future Firelord.
Katara came unraveled under Aang, bringing him with her into what might look like a couple of lovers in the throws of passion. But Katara was a million miles away, alabaster and mocha in her mind dripping with sweat, fire meeting water in a steamy embrace, procreating with fervor.
When Aang finally rolled off of her Katara realized she had slammed her eyes shut tight and chose to simply relax them but not open them. She wanted to live in her fantasy a little while longer. Her subconscious visions playing out wonderful dreams of panting mouths meeting, tasting, biting.
"Katara, are you OK?" Katara snapped out of her hazey state and opened her eyes to look at her always far too concerned boyfriend.
"Yes, I'm alright. That was nice Aang. I'm going to go to sleep now though, I really am tired." She fained a loud yawn and stretched out her arms above her head.
"OK, goodnight Katara. I love you." Those words were starting to sting like ice cold water on her skin and in her organs. Why she continued to do this she couldn't figure out. But here she was, rolling over and allowing the airbender to wrap himself around her body, pressed against her back, as she drifted off to sleep with an ache in her body she knew she could never rid herself of.
……
The sun had barely peeked over the horizon when Katara sat up in bed, looking over at her fast asleep partner, cuddled into the pillows.
Katara let out a sigh and swung her legs over the bed. Aang had a meeting today but it wasn't until later in the afternoon. He had said they were going to discuss allowing Toph to teach metal bending. Katara thought that was brilliant and recalled beaming with pride at the short earthbender. Who would have thought that small blind rich girl would be the best earthbending master out there.
Toph was very enthusiastic about it and Katara remembered chuckling at the idea of her teaching a bunch of students the way she taught Aang. Boy were they in for a fun time.
It was likely too early for breakfast, Katara thought to herself, abandoning the bed and her snoozing boyfriend and shutting the door behind her quietly. However she usually didn't wake up so early and Spirits knew firebenders really did rise with the sun. For all she knew she was late to ordering up something for herself compared to half the palace.
Her musings were confirmed when she spotted the tray of neatly stacked and cleared dishes outside of Zuko's chambers as she made her way down the hall, heading for her own bedroom.
Katara was considering taking a shower, trudging past Zuko's door, when an odd noise caught her off guard.
Even though it had been months since the war ended, Katara still hadn't shaken the impulse to investigate every movement and sound that seemed out of the ordinary. It wasn't something she did consciously on purpose; it was simply second nature to her at this point. And she would still swear to this day that she wouldn't have taken a step back towards the firelord's door to listen closer if she had given it a genuine moment of thought.
The heated blush that spread quickly across her cheeks nearly burned her skin as she absorbed the clear sounds of Zuko moaning quietly. And maybe she could write the noises off as general groans of someone stretching from a good night's sleep but she knew better. The tray at her feet suggested he had been awake long enough and these weren't sounds of someone waking up, these were uncontrolled sounds of blissful pleasure, repeating over and over again.
Katara felt a tingling jolt shoot through her body in response to his gasps and moans.
A wet heat coiling in her lower abdomen and core, her mouth drying up as she all but pressed herself against his door.
Katara was grateful for the lack of Guards in the area, knowing they all must be down in the mess hall having breakfast. Possibly the reason why Zuko chose this time to carry out this activity.
Katara stifled a desperate groan as the raspy, breathless tones picked up. An urgency and anticipation to them that had Kataras fingers twitching over the waistband of her pants. She couldn't though. Even though she was technically alone, what if a guard came back, or Zuko managed to come out when she was too in her own head to notice, or Agni forbid, Aang.
She swallowed thickly and tried to ignore the pulsing between her legs. A sinfully arousing exclamation sounded from behind the door, sharp ragged gasps and low, muffled shouts assaulted Katara's ears in the most heavenly way as she pictured him lying on his bed, cock in hand, thick white cum spurting onto his pale, toned abdomen.
"Fuck." She breathed, nearly shaking from her own arousal.
When the chaotic noises of pleasure finally subsided Katara turned quickly and continued her trek to her own bedroom, now with a greater purpose than changing her clothes and maybe showering.
"What a waste." She mumbled to herself, consciously unaware of her teeth absent mindedly chewing at her bottom lip.
………..
Katara emerged from her bedroom an hour later, hair wet from the shower, wearing a clean set of fire nation clothing, and face flushed and dreamy from her indulgence.
"Hey Katara." Despite his voice being quiet and almost inaudible, Katara nearly jumped ten feet high before locking eyes with Zuko, who had happened to be walking past her room just as she was coming out.
Oh Spirits give me a break.
Once again he was wearing his robe with what looked like nothing underneath. His hair was far more disheveled than Katara could remember ever seeing, and the blotchy patch of rosy skin decorating his upper chest, neck and face was proof to Katara that he hadnt stopped his personal playtime after she left.
Impressive stamina. She thought to herself.
"Hey Zuko, you scared me." She admitted, pulling her door shut behind her as she stepped out into the hall.
"Sorry." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at the floor.
"Why aren't you dressed?" Katara asked, hoping Zuko couldn't see her own wicked blush spreading across her skin.
"I was going to shower, but I was restless and wanted to go for a walk through the halls before anyone else woke up. You're up early." He explained, cocking eyebrow at her in question.
Katara had to fight the urge to ask him if she could join. Her head was off in some horny fantasy land and all she could think about was cleaning his messy ministrations off his stomach with her tongue.
"Uh…ya, I'm not sure why actually." She answered. She wanted to slap herself hard for how awkward she was being. How ridiculous, how obsessed, how unfaithful. Zuko nodded at her response.
"Have a good day Zuko." She said all too quickly as she turned to speed walk down the hall toward the entrance to the palace. She thought some time with her element would help clear her mind, she pictured the fountains that sat outside the large royal building.
"You too Katara. And thanks again for looking after Tom-Tom." Zuko said quietly.
"You're welcome, Zuko." She responded softly, letting her eyes fall to the floor. She couldn't think about how unbelievably sweet he looked playing with the little boy. How her uterus actually ached at the emptiness inside her.
Nature was a cruel mistress, and Katara's mind was the poor fool that just kept succumbing to her.
Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Summary:
Katara has a calm morning with Aang, Sokka, Suki and a very excited future metal bending teacher.
Notes:
I actually wrote this chapter before seeing the comments on my previous chapter.
Katara is only 17 in this story and I like to be realistic with my writing. People do dumb things and nobody is perfect, especially at 17. And obsessive, hormonal infatuation is the norm.
Her kinks and her goals are intertwining and with her frustration in her current relationship, she's straying hard. Aang was the one who had the feelings bad for Katara, and being young, Katara thought thats who she was supposed to be with. And it is never easy to break up with someone, especially a very good friend and especially when you have the entire world's eyes and expectations on you.
She is severely in denial about trying to make it work with Aang while also harboring a crush on Zuko. This is going to be messy, but I promise it all works out in the end. Again, this is not for people who ship Kataang, but Aang is still treated like the sweet bean that he is, despite Kataras ruthless inner monologue.
Song for this chapter:
Now I'm laughing at my boredom
At my string of failed attempts
Because you think that it's important
And I welcome the sentiment
Chapter Text
The morning air was warm and inviting, the sun making its way lazily into the sky.
Katara always loathed the sight of red and black as those were the colors of the enemy. Now, she saw them as the colors of rebirth, redemption, unity. The four nations were finally coming together under the hard working hands of her committed group.
Katara admired the gold bands around each tier of the southern fountain that sat close to the entrance of the palace. Such bold and beautiful colors that acted like a statement of power and pride.
Aside from the few guards standing post or milling around, Katara was mostly alone, sitting on the edge of the dark stone fountain. She summoned an orb of water with her fingers, calmly swirling it around in the air. Giving it different shapes, separating it, sometimes completely into raindrops high above her before catching them just as they were about to hit her skin.
Katara knew if she was ever given the impossible option to change her element, she would never. Something about water always made her feel at peace. It always gave her a sense of awe at nature's raw beauty. And what she was most grateful for was the sudden lack of necessity in weaponizing it. It just didn't feel right turning this tranquil serene element into something dangerous and merciless.
Katara took a deep breath in and drew more water from the fountain, letting it float up and combine with the levitating pool in front of her.
"Good morning Katara. I thought I'd find you here!" The water dropped like a rock with a splash back into the fountain as Katara sun around in surprise.
"Sorry!" Aang raised a hand in an apologetic wave as he approached her, Toph followed close behind.
"Hey, it's OK I was just really in the zone there." Katara smiled, turning to face the two.
"How did you both sleep?" She asked, feeling slightly guilty at leaving Aang to wake up alone when he would have expected his partner to be in bed with him.
"Really good." Toph said, stretching her arms above and then infront of her as if to add emphasis to her answer.
Aang moved to stand in front of Katara, bowing to place a kiss on her forehead. Katara looked up at him fondly when he pulled away. He was really a sweet man and she despised the path she was falling down then, wishing she could just force herself to feel for Aang like he felt for her.
"Me too. I missed you though. How come you were up so early?" He asked her with a soft smile as he toyed with her loose hair.
"I don't know. I guess I was so tired from yesterday that I got a good enough deep sleep. I didn't toss and turn at all." She said with a hint of relief.
Despite it having been a good bit of time since the war ended, Katara spent most nights jolting awake from nightmares.
Dreams where she would be sleeping in her roll close to Aang and her brother, shooting up to see plumes of dark smoke rolling up into the sky over the tree line. Images of Azula's unhinged, sinister grin as she lunged at her, lightning shooting from her fingertips. Nightmares of her waking up in a fire nation prison cell or reliving her mother's death.
One recurring dream where she would be walking down the hallway of the group's bedrooms, the hallway of important people in the palace would stretch and stretch as she walked through it. She never seemed to reach the end. And then suddenly she would blink and she was tied to one of the columns that stood tall in the Firelord's throne room.
His low taunting voice whispering against the shell of her ear over her shoulder before he stepped into view. Instead of the black armor and shame invoked ponytail, he wore his heavy, ornate firelord robes and had a full head of thick dark hair tied up in a top knot, and adorning the gold crown piece.
He would dangle her mother's necklace infront of her, snickering at her cries of confusion, fear, anger, sorrow before sending a blast of fire from his fingertips into the floor beneath her and smiling as he watched the flames consume her.
She would wake up in a cold sweat, thrashing wildly when this dream plagued her. She would always feel disturbed and uneasy moving about the palace afterwards. Avoiding Zuko for a good day or so, trying to shake the embedded, conditioned weariness and resentment she had hoped to have finally swallowed the day he took her to her mother's killer.
"That's good!" Aang exclaimed happily.
"So did ya here sugar queen? Aang says the consensus is in the bag. Looks like I'm gonna be teaching some snot-nosed brats how to become the best generation of earthbenders this world has ever seen!" Toph curled her fingers inward, a wicked grin on her face.
Katara and Aang stared at her silently for a moment.
Toph blinked, dropping her hands to her sides.
"Alright I won't call them snot-nosed brats, but I will call them weakling if they're anything like Aang was to teach." She closed her eyes, smiling wide and clapping a hand on the frowning Avatar's shoulder.
Katara giggled into her hand before standing up and looking at Aang.
"Well, a majority of future earthbenders are going to be in the hands of Toph Beifong. That ought to chill you to bone." Aang gave her an exaggerated look of pity directed at the idea of those poor eager students.
"Agni be with them. Anyways, want to get some breakfast? I'm starving!" Aang groaned, a smile spreading across his face.
Katara realized she had completely skipped breakfast despite her growling stomach when she woke up.
A brief flash of auditory memory filled her head as she remembered what had distracted her from getting something to eat.
Agni, those sounds would live in her head until the day she died and as awkward as it made her feel it equally aroused and excited her in ways she had never experienced before.
But again, she knew she couldn't do a thing about the tingling ache between her legs. She couldn't act on the constant daydreams and mental stimuli that dominated her thoughts. She would just have to accept that and try to turn her attention back to Aang.
"Katara?" Aang's voice broke through her internal reflections.
"What's the matter, sugar queen? You look like you stepped out there for a second." Toph asked, still smiling, no doubt distracted herself with anticipation for the meeting.
Katara smiled awkwardly and nodded her head.
"Sorry my mind was somewhere else. Maybe I didn't get enough sleep after all. Sure, let's go get breakfast. Maybe I'll finally see my brother in the mess hall." She rolled her eyes as they started making their way back into the palace.
"Ya him and Sukki never leave their room. What a bunch of degenerates." Toph laughed, Katara cringed at the implication.
……
"I'm sure you're very excited." Suki said warmly to the short earthbender over a bowl of oatmeal.
Toph grinned back, having completely abandoned her own breakfast to gush about the upcoming meeting.
"You better believe it." She replied.
"So where would they have you teaching? Ba Sing Se?" Asked Sokka, who had a five o'clock shadow as physical evidence of his distracted self quarantine with Suki.
Katara turned her head to look at Toph, who was seated on the other side of Aang. Aang had already finished his oatmeal and was also listening intently.
"I'm not sure. That will probably come up in the meeting." Toph said, taking her spoon in hand just to stir the contents of her bowl twice before shoving it aside and standing up.
The mess hall attendants would clear away their table once they had all left and Toph was happy to provide them the task.
"Alright you sorry saps, I'm going to do some bending, I'm too excited and I need to be one with the earth right now." The girl said with a departing bow.
Once Toph had left, Aang turned to Sokka. Katara took a bite of her eggs, mindlessly taking in her surroundings. Who would have thought she'd be having breakfast with the gaang in the fire nation palace mess hall.
She would never get used to this.
"Sokka, do you want to spar before the meeting?" Aang proposed eagerly, no doubt missing his friend in his romance-addled absence. Sokka looked to Suki who gave him a loving smile and nodded her head.
"Absolutely." He grinned. Aang shot his fist into the air in excitement, hovering off his seat for a moment and earning the attention and good natured giggles from nearby fellow consumers.
"Katara, is that OK? I didn't know if you wanted to spend time together before-" Aang settled back down to the bench, his eyes on Katara.
She waved at him nonchalantly, her gaze locked on her breakfast.
"Go, go. We haven't seen Sokka in days, it'll be nice for you to spend some time with him." Her eyes darted to her brother who stuck his tongue out at her.
Katara finished her food, stood and gave Aang a half-hearted hug around his shoulders. This was customary of the Avatar's girlfriend. She longed to be able to do this without the glaring intimate and romantic inference, she missed his friendship. The way he smiled up at her gave her that familiar twinge of adoration. How could she break such a pure heart. No doubt he would be an amazing father too, and she knew he felt horrible every time she came back with nothing after seeing Toph. She returned his smile, this time it was genuine and, she hoped, full of the familiar love she had always felt for him. The lack of romantic feelings shouldn't get in her way of making good him feel appreciated, not the way she had been lately.
As she left the table of chattering boys, and poor Sukki, behind, Katara considered what she would do with the rest of her day, deciding to lose herself in the library. A perfect way to clear her head and maybe distract her enough to lose the inappropriate school girl desires and get back on track with Aang. Maybe she would try a romance, get some ideas to get those nonexistent sparks going.

Chapter Text
The smell of aging books was another one of Kataras favorite things. She missed being able to read without it pertaining to the defeat of the fire nation.
Katara hummed happily to herself, her fingers dancing along the spines of various books that lined the mahogany shelves.
The palace library was enormous and beautiful. Gold moldings and long crimson drapes framing the tall windows. She hoped to have a similar library herself one day. Maybe a little smaller and maybe less fire nation decor and literature, but something just as elegant and enticing.
She must have been perusing for a good 15 minutes before her eyes fell upon a black canvas book with an intriguing gold title.
"Love amongst the dragons." Katara whispered to Noone in particular. She recalled Zuko mentioning the play adaptation being "butchered" every year by the Ember Island Players. Once she had seen that play reenacting their adventures, Katara believed that statement like she had believed in Aang's destiny.
Katara pulled the book from its spot and flipped through it. It wasn't too long and her curiosity had been peaked. She settled for a sleek black chaise and cracked the book open to the first page.
…….
Katara had lost track of time, her nose practically buried between the pages when Aang came bounding into the library with Toph, Sokka and Suki in tow.
"There you are! We've been looking for you for like an hour!" Sokka shouted, Katara fumbled the book in her hands, it fell to the floor and slammed shut.
"Ugh! I lost my spot Sokka." She groaned, bending to pick it up.
Sokka rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
"Toph got the go ahead!" Aang shouted excitedly. Katara snapped her eyes up to the group, Toph was grinning from ear to ear, Suki jumping enthusiastically beside her.
"That's great Toph! See, we knew it was just a matter of signing the contracts. No debate there." Katara placed the book next to her on the sofa and stood to embrace the earthbender.
"No. Ugh!" Toph squirmed in Kataras arms, attempting to shove her away.
"Where are they placing you to teach?" Katara asked, finally pulling away from the complaining girl.
"Near Yu Dao." Aang answered for her.
"That makes sense, they do specialize in metal. But isn't it basically a fire nation village at this point?" Katara inquired further, moving to give Aang a hug in silent apology for being completely absent for most of this important day.
"Yea but Zuko and Iroh mentioned holding a meeting with Kuei to do something about that." Toph explained.
"Are we finally reaching beyond Ba Sing Se than?"
"That's what it looks like." Aang smiled brightly, as he pulled back from his embrace with Katara. She was grateful he moved away first. Her nerves were getting the better of her and she worried that he might start to see through her desperate attempts.
"It's about time." She laughed.
"Well, I don't think the new Firelord has adjusted to his role quite yet. As distinguished as he may be." Sokka mused.
Katara thought back to that morning when she had seen him, for the second time, roaming about the palace in just a robe.
"He really does go from one extreme to the next doesn't he? One minute he's all about honor, the next he has no decorum. He can play the part well when he tries though. He just needs to get out of his own head and accept that this is actually real." Katara said with an almost frustrated tone.
It would have been misinterpreted had anyone noticed it, as she understood the pressure of such a title especially after the life lived previous to the coronation. But she did feel that 100 years of war left a bad mark on the nations and something needed to be done if they wanted to move on once and for all.
"Maybe you could help with that? Bringing the nations together I mean." Sokka piped up.
Katara cocked her head ar her brother.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you are all about bringing peace and love to everyone." Katara picked up on his mocking easily but understood the message, mulling over it with growing consideration and intrigue.
"Thats true! We could use someone to help join the nation's after all this time. You're the perfect person." Aang added with exuberance.
"A former victim of the war, you aren't fire nation yourself, and you helped end the war with the avatar while seeing the current firelords redemption first hand. The people would trust you. And I'm sure you're name has gone around with all your good deeds, now that you're considered an important person."
Katara digested their suggestion thoughtfully for a moment.
She had been looking for something to occupy her time. The sudden absence of purpose and function no doubt played a part in her wandering mind.
And they were right, she thought about the unattended post-war priorities quite alot. Who better to tend to the challenging task of cleaning up Ozais handiwork and uniting the nations.
She considered that it might be the firelords job to tend to such matters but sometimes she forgot that Zuko was the Firelord. He wasn't Aang, he did not have to even bother with the rest of the world and even if he tried to manage that himself, he'd just wear himself thin. He would be juggling ruling an entire nation while simultaneously pulling the nations back together.
Katara pondered the idea of roping Iroh and her father into this hypothetical coalition. A small smile spreading across her face as she looked back up to the group who awaited her response.
"I like the sounds of that. I really do." She said with a nod. Four separate and varied exclamations filled the calm silence in the mostly empty Library as hands clapped Katara and Tophs backs, a hearty pat to Aangs shoulder as well.
The group embraced each other and Katara felt a swell of pride and excitement in her chest.
"Alright alright. Should we let you get back to your book Katara?" Suki said as they all finally separated.
Katara let out a sigh, she had forgotten all about the novel and another surge of joy moved through her. She had things to occupy her, keep her busy and enjoying what life had to offer. Even the simplest pleasures, such as reading a good book, made her feel exhilarated at that moment.
As much as she wanted to flop back down and lose herself again, she had been inspired by the book and wanted to act on it. Although she didn't educate herself beforehand on the plot of the book and found it a tad cruelly coincidental.
"No, I think it's nearing dinner time. Aang why don't you go spar with Toph, a celebration spar if you will." They smiled at eachother, a light laugh on both their lips.
"I will order us up some food and you can come to my room in about an hour?" She finished, cocking an eyebrow at him. His smile widened.
"That sounds great, thank you Katara." He rose up quickly to peck her on the lips before turning to the earthbender.
"Let's do this twinkle toes." Toph taunted. Katara watched as the two younger benders bounded out of the library, Suki and Sokka nodding at her before following.
When the war had ended it felt like the group was divided suddenly.
Aang constantly in meetings and acting as a representation for the end of the war, not to mention being the Avatar, he had become quite popular and was constantly being whisked away.
Toph had been trying to get this metal bending academy idea going for 2 whole months now. Sokka and Suki were taking advantage of the free alone time they had yearned for when their entire focus was primarily on the 100 years of conflict and rampaging and the impending doom that the barely surviving nations faced.
And Zuko was now firelord. She only ever saw him at random. He was like a ghost to her when he wasn't making public appearances or summoning her to a meeting here and there. No wonder he was restless and wandering the halls this morning, wearing as little layers as he could in an attempt to relieve his body of the weight of his fire lord garb.
Katara missed this. She missed her friends. She missed Aang and Sokka fooling around and Toph's witty remarks. She missed Aang being almost like a little brother her.
But things were different now. And so she grabbed her book and followed the others out, turning the opposite direction as them as they headed toward the courtyard and she the hall of dignitaries.
Upon reaching her room she instructed the nearby guard to have a servant bring her dinner for her and the avatar, as well as some flowers and candles and a bottle of red wine. To which the guard bowed respectfully before hurrying to the foyer between halls to fetch the closest servant.

Chapter Text
The crimson fabric felt smooth on her skin and Katara thought she'd never feel this sexy.
She told herself she must thank Suki later for buying her the lacy lingerie. A spontaneous and unexpected gift that was left at her door the couple days after she had told her that Aang and her were trying.
Katara had accidentally buried it under her clothes to be forgotten. But tonight she remembered, it would be a highlight among the candles, flowers and glasses of the fire nation's finest.
Katara swallowed hard as she took in her set up. Petals strewn about, the light from the candles flickering and making the shadows underneath them dance. Two silver trays with large round lids sat on a flat stool next to the bed, soft pillows on either side meant for them to sit on.
She hoped that maybe the immense romance of it all would bring about whatever had been missing inside of her all this time.
She knew she loved Aang, and their bond was something from a fairytale. But usually, in fairytales, the prince kisses the damsel and the world comes to life, she is reborn and they fall madly in love. In her fairytale she felt more like she was going through the motions.
Everytime they were intimate she was hyper aware that she was doing that with someone she saw as a goofy friend. Aang just wasn't the type of guy that radiated sexual prowess. And she had never considered that to be an issue.
But here she was, nearly naked, save for some delicate red lace tight against her body, forcing herself to beckon at whatever it was she was looking for so desperately.
When Aang finally came through her door, Katara had placed herself on one of the pillows, a thin red robe pulled over her lingerie clad body.
"Hey…oh…Katara." Aangs jaw nearly hit the floor as he gazed around the room in awe before settling on Katara.
"I've got wiiine." She smiled, wiggling an already poured glass at him.
Aang smiled brightly at her and practically bounded to his adjacent cushion and taking the glass from her.
"You look beautiful Katara." His cheeks turning rosy. She hadn't done anything like this for him before and she hoped he liked it, he sure seemed like he did.
"Thank you Aang." She returned his smile and lifted her own glass of wine to her lips.
Alcohol, yet another thing to be grateful for.
"How was your spar with Toph?" She asked once she had swallowed a considerably large gulp of wine. She eyed the bruises on his arms and stifled a laugh. Toph was such a tough badass she managed to inflict such damage on the post war avatar.
Aang took on a sheepish expression.
"Oh..good. what's for dinner?" He asked, quickly moving past the conversation. Katara chuckled at him and lifted the lid of his tray for him.
"Oh boy!" He exclaimed staring at the spread of steamed vegetables, rice and breads.
"Good eating." Katara noted.
"I'll say!" He agreed as they quickly tucked into their meals. Aang nursing his wine while Katara all but chugged hers.
……
As always it was an evening of pleasant conversation. Friendly banter, reminiscing, and more discussion of plans for uniting the nations. Katara's ability to contribute became increasingly nonexistent as her words started to slur and her vision tilted this way and that. Her body tingling and her head a foggy happy mess, She felt wonderful.
"How much have you had to drunk…. Kasara cuz you are….so clearly messed up." OK so Aang wasn't exactly ready to attend any important meetings himself at the moment.
Katara simply giggled. Aang was sitting on the floor, leaning against the bed. Katara was laying on the bed with her legs propped up on the head board.
She had been mostly communicating in giggles for about half an hour.
A moment of blissful silence filled the room as they stewed dreamily in their intoxication.
Katara had forgotten what she had concealed under her robe, all inhibitions and perfectly planned out strategy aside, she threw caution completely to the wind.
"Hey Aang." She giggled again.
"Look." Aang turned just in time to see Katara yank her robe open, revealing her mostly nude body decorated with fine crimson lace.
His face went slack, eyes widening.
"Woah!" He clambered onto the bed so fast Katara thought he might have not even touched the ground.
"I assume this means you want to try tonight?" Katara did nothing to hide her eye roll. Again, he sounded like a goofy child.
"Yes dumby. Come on." She commanded, turning onto her stomach and moving so that she was on her knees across from him.
"OK." He smiled awkwardly. It was like she was making him open a gift in front of 30 strangers.
She was, however, drunk enough to ignore the little idiosyncrasies that turned her off normally. She wanted a man who would see her looking like that and pounce on her like a hungry wolf. But she couldn't shame Aang for being a bashful, respectful guy who's inexperience shone through his performance every time. He did try.
His hands and lips on her was a familiar thing, she knew safety in his arms. She had always known safety with Aang. These were hands that would never hurt her. He loved her with every fiber of his being and she only wished she could reciprocate those feelings.
Something else that made Katara impatient with Aang was how long foreplay took. It wasn't a slow lustful, teasing burn of touching and passionate, heated kisses. It was fumbling and far too determined movements that ended up either hurting or doing nothing at all. He rubbed at the bare patch of skin just above her clit. He twisted his fingers within her in ways that made her tense in pain. He clacked his teeth against hers and moved his tongue like he was trying to win a race.
When he finally entered her he took the shape of a plank and more or less flopped on top of her. There was just something about him that made him almost sexually incompetent and she felt bad for him. He loved so purely, so strongly. He treated her so well. And although the lack of sexual chemistry wasn't the only issue she was having in this relationship, it was a dominating aspect for what was to come next.
"Aang. Aang stop." She huffed, putting a stop to Aangs ministrations instantly.
He looked at her, the look of intense concentration giving way to a look of concern an question.
"Whats wrong Katara?" He sounded so innocent, it was like he wasn't completely naked on top of her, her red lace that hugged between her legs, pulled aside sloppily.
Katara heaved heavily. Breaking her eyes away from him.
"I….I'm sorry." The dam broke and loud sobs burst from her as she brought her hands up to cover her face.
Aangs face twisted in genuine fear and confusion. He pulled out of her quickly and moved to kneel next to her. A hand covering himself in shame as the other reached out tentatively to touch her arm.
"Katara?" He asked softly.
Katara knew then that it had to happen now. If she couldn't make it through what should have been a fun, romantic, intimate evening and an attempt at procreation, how would she be able to make it through a life long commitment with him and his child. Assuming she'd ever get pregnant.
But in that moment she wasn't thinking about that. She didn't have an ounce of anger or irritation in her as she wept into her hands much to Aang's dismay. They were laughing and talking for hours. But not as lovers. They were never lovers, not to her. And this desperate attempt to force what she thought was meant for her needed to end.
"Aang. I'm so sorry. I cant-" She groaned as she fought the anxiety induced pressure in her chest. She didn't want to lose him. She didn't want to lose this wonderful evening of giggling and reminiscing. It was only when they would do more that she wanted to shy away from him.
"You're my best friend." She cried. This was going to kill him. The avatar. The man that saved the world. The most dangerous and strong human being in the world. And she was going to be the death of him. His cold, heartless ex-best friend who teased him with eager plans to have a child together. Who blindsided him with a devastating break up in the middle of sex during the one time she actually cared to do something nice for him.
"I love you Aang. Please please I can't lose my best friend." She sobbed harder through her fingers.
"Wh…what?...Kat-." He sounded terrified. He knew. Even in their intoxication, nobody was lost in what was happening. What needed to happen. A sobering reality that was like a bucket of north pole water poured down his back.
"Aang, I can't do this anymore." She finally took her hands from her face, inhaling sharply as she tried her best to compose herself. It was happening, that was that. She had to be tough and do it. He was the one having his heart broken, who was she to be weeping like she was the victim here.
"What do you mean?" His lower lip quivered and she had to look away again. She knew the sudden cold tone she took on was cruel and harsh. But if she was going to do this she had to disconnect.
"Aang, we aren't compatible." That wasn't how she would have put it if she wasn't trying to be delicate. But it was the best explanation she could give without delving into specifics.
She could her him stammer, a whimper slipping from his throat.
"I love you. So much. But I don't think I love you the way you love me. I thought this was what was meant for me. My fortune, your love for me, our story. It just all made sense. But-" She finally turned to look at him and her heart shattered into a pile of organic debris. Fat teardrops tracked down his blood drained cheeks. His eyes wide, mouth quivering in bitter agony.
"Aang." She attempted a soothing tone. The want to heal him taking over but there was nothing there for her to heal. Not even that special northern water tribe water could fix this.
"Just say it Katara." His voice turned sour. His tone was similar to the one he took with her when he had lost Appa. She drew back, studying the furrow in his brow and the angry hurt that filled his stare.
"Aang… I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I love you so-"
"Stop!" He shouted suddenly, causing her to nearly cower. His tattoos glowed briefly and Katara felt true fear rake up her body.
"Stop telling me you love me. Obviously you don't!" He turned his face away from her and glared down at the floor.
Katara stayed silent. Unsure of what to say at this point. Her heart beating hard against her chest. She wanted to curl up and disappear.
"We were going to have a child Katara. Why would you…" He trailed off, shaking his head.
This needed to happen, she told herself. You knew it would be messy but you've been a coward all this time. Take what comes of it and be glad you didn't make it worse for him with a child.
"Aang." She reached out carefully, her finger tips grazing his bare arm that were riddled in goosebumps. She was certain they weren't from being cold as being in the fire nation it was always warm.
"Get out Katara." He demanded with near malous. She simply stared at him a moment, she didnt know why she felt so shocked and hurt. She awkwardly pulled herself up and adjusted her lingerie.
She grabbed the wine bottle, knowing she would be cradling that to sleep tonight. Hesitating near the door, still essentially naked, She had almost remembered to grab her robe but in Aang's despair and rage he rose off the bed a good foot, levitating in an ominous way, and yelled loud enough to shake the walls.
"I SAID GET OUT KATARA!" His eyes were blurred over with tears.
And that was that. Choosing to take the chance of being seen in the several feet of hallway between their rooms over one more second with Aang rapidly approaching the avatar state, she yanked the door open and ran out into the hallway, pulling the door with her.
The sudden silence and separation overcame her. Katara let another violent sob wrack through her as she slid down the wall outside his door, bringing the bottle to her lips and gulping.

Chapter Text
The loud crashing behind the thin safety of the door was what caused her to finally get up and stumble down the hall, away from Aangs bedroom.
She had sat there in a slump for quite some time, listening to him cry while she drank her troubles away. And by the time he had started destroying the room she was completely plastered.
Her own tears had subsided, her own sorrow and guilt being replaced by anger at the childish response.
Maybe had she been thinking with a clearer head she would have felt nothing but sympathy and shame. But in her current state, the sounds of objects being thrown around the room only made her want to go back in there and yell at him to calm down and grow the hell up.
It wasn't her fault he was so bad in bed she literally had to call it quits in the middle. It wasn't her fault that he put her on pedestal and ignored her clear lack of interest until she finally gave in, trusting in his constant rants about destiny.
Maybe they hadn't been about her per say but everything in this agni forsaken world seemed to be about your goddamn destiny, what fate was already written for you. And with the help of Aunt Wu, she was convinced that despite her own feelings, Aang was the man she was supposed to be with.
That's just how Katara always lived. Always putting her own wants and feelings aside for the greater purpose. Well she was done doing that and if he couldn't handle that then that was his own problem. She had been there for him through thick and thin, to hell and back.
That was what caused Katara to hesitate outside the large gold trim door that stood between Aangs room and her own.
Her brain fuzzy, sore and swimming, she knocked lightly. Her hand dropping mid rap as she tried not to sway and lean against the door.
Why am I here.
She looked down the hall toward her own door a few feet away.
I shouldn't be doing this.
She took a step back, wobbling slightly.
Just drink yourself to sleep, blackout on your bed with that book. That book you were reading to give you inspiration. That book that only made you think about him.
Katara suddenly felt weirdly agoraphobic standing out in the hall. Before the door could be answered she grabbed the intricate gold handle and twisted.
The door creaked open, soft light from the lit sconces in his room cascaded across her and the floor at her feet as she stepped into the room.
And again, had she been in the right mindset she would have never walked in without permission. Not just because it was an incredible invasion of privacy but also because she was sure the reprimand for just waltzing into the firelords chambers uninvited was not dignified or pleasent.
But it was too late, the door swinging open and her feet following without hesitation.
"Woah!" His understandably surprised voice filling the silence at the sudden mysterious intruder.
"Sorry Zuko it's just me." No doubt she sounded out of it. And no doubt she looked mildly unhinged to walk into his room spontaneously, wearing lingerie, a 3 quarters empty bottle of wine dangling from her hand.
"Ka..tara…what.." His words died in his throat as his startled gaze dropped to her exposed body, nothing but thin red lace to cover her most intimate areas.
Katara swallowed thickly at the site of him shirtless, laying on his bed, propped up on his elbows. The hand that had raised up, ready to blast flames at the door should it be an attacker, dropping back down to the bed.
Her body tingled in response to his golden eyes trailing her body.
Once he met her gaze they simply sat in silence for a moment, Zuko still maintaining the shocked expression while Katara chewed her lip nervously.
"Whats going on Katara?" He choked out finally.
She wasn't sure what to say. She didn't want to sit here, the both of them half naked, and cry over the failed relationship she didn't even really want in the first place.
The warmth from the alcohol mixing with the warmth of his room and her own uncontrolled desire felt like an exciting fire in her veins. Electric vibrations on her skin as she moved closer to his bed.
"Aang and I broke up." She stated quietly. Her eyes stuck on him and his on her as she stopped only a foot or so from his bed.
Zuko then took on the typical sympathetic look and Kataras intoxicated brain just wanted to tell him to wipe the apologetic frown off his face.
"Oh I'm sorry Katara. Are you OK?"
"Yes." She answered surely.
"You don't…look like you're OK." He said gingerly, once again taking in her current state with a mixed expression of pity and excitation.
Katara nodded at his statement. Realizing she probably looked like she had been crying alot and that maybe she looked a little like a crazy person. But she didn't care. She was trying to quiet her booze addled brain that was telling her to climb on top of him and forget all about what had just happened.
"I am , I'm just…" She finished her explanation by lifting the bottle. I'm wasted Zuko, that's why I'm here, She thought.
"I put this on, was trying to surprise Aang but…hes just…i had to do it. And anyways he yelled at me to get out so I didn't get my robe." Her words slurred as she forced them out. Zuko simply continued to stare at her.
"I'm sorry. He's just so bad in bed. I didn't tell him that….obviously Zuko." She said as if he had said anything. The inappropriate smile she felt spread across her face as she fought a giggle, felt so uncontrollable she only just then realized just how plastered she was.
Zuko blushed heavily, darting his gaze away from her. Again he said nothing.
"I just wanted a baby. I thought he was the one I was….destiny." She sighed, watching him fidget uncomfortably on his elbows.
"He isn't who I want though Zuko." If Zuko had looked at her then the message would have been loud and clear but with his averted gaze it merely sounded like she was simply confused and had made a mistake.
"I'm sorry Katara." He finally said, bringing his eyes back to her.
"Can I do anything…to help?" And of course he had to ask that question while she was almost completely naked, standing in his room drunk out of her mind in the middle of the night.
Katara felt the wicked grin spread further across her face. It was the night of taking leaps after all. And her system was buzzing with an abundance of red wine. The need to escape into bliss overcame her.
She recalled that morning where she had listened to him moan and pant. She was ready to give anything to see what was drawing such beautiful sounds from him. Hear them again and drink him in like the finely aged wine she still held in her hands.
"I want a baby." She pouted, looking to the floor innocently. It wasn't a request. Just a drunken statement that confused more than it revealed.
"Oh.. I don't know what-" He stammered, unsure of how to respond.
"I want to make a baby…with someone…who knows what he's doing…" her voice turned sultry, giving away her inner thoughts and causing Zuko to blink at her wordlessly as she moved closer to the bed.
"Someone who would make me shake and scream." Aang only made her want to scream with frustration. She reached a corner pillar at the foot of his bed, never breaking eye contact. Zuko swallowed hard his blush deepening.
"Someone who's got what it takes to get me pregnant. Someone…" She had never felt so sexy in her lingerie several hours ago, now, her entire being lit up with intoxication, she felt like a kitty cat, prowling up onto his bed. No inhibitions as she crawled closer to him, her words coming out in a purr.
"Sexy." She finished, sitting on her knees in front of him.
Zukos whole face had turned scarlet and although he shuffled back from her toward his headboard, the growing bulge in his pants was unmistakable from where she was.
"Katara I don't…think…I mean…you're…Aang would…are you…I can't." In this moment he was just as awkward as Aang. But that was understandable. Aang was given countless opportunity to adjust to their affairs and he continued to behave like he was new to the whole thing. Not to mention Katara, in her drunken state, had essentially just told him that she wants him to give her a baby.
Katara's head swam, a delicious ache between her legs as she did nothing to hide her hungry eyes on his erection.
Agni please. Her mind begged her. Her body begged her. Her fingertips tingling with the need to touch him.
She smirked at him playfully, throwing all caution to the wind and slowly ran a hand up his thigh, eliciting a sharp gasp from him.
She didn't stop on her little journey, the wine fueling her unbridled boldness, and she moved her hand up and cupped him through his pants at the junction between his legs.
He nearly shot forward at her touch. A soft "hmm!" trapped behind tight lips.
"This..says otherwise. I think you can give me exactly what I want, Zuko." A flicker of something crossed his eyes, and she drank it in. She knew she was winning, this was her hot blooded man that would give her everything she's ever needed.
Katara handed him the bottle she had rested on his bed frame. When that happened she didn't know. She wasn't sure she would remember any of this in the morning but that was OK. Because palming Zukos manhood through his pants was giving her vibrations in her body she had never felt with Aang.
Even if she woke up dazed and confused and oblivious to the previous nights actions, a splitting headache claiming her for the day, it would all be worth it…for this.
Zuko took the bottle, staring at her still, his eyes half lidded now as he succumbed to her advances.
As he put the bottle to his lips and tipped it back, Katara let her hands abandon their work and slide up his bare torso. She shuffled in between his legs and slowly, cautiously bent forward to place the flat of her tongue below his navel.
"Hmm!" The bottle tore from his lips as he shot his eyes to Katara swallowing the wine and nearly choking on it.
She peered up at him innocently, her tongue slowly moving up the trail of fine, dark hair that disappeared under his waistband.
His erection strained against her chest and she delighted in how quickly he was falling apart for her.
Zuko sat up gently, as to not interrupt Kataras indulgence. Still, she left his stomach and sat back on her heels.
"Why did you come to me?" He asked, already breathing heavily, burning amber eyes searching her aquatic pools.
She absent mindedly toyed with his waist band, noting the subtle hum that radiated from him in response.
"I haven't been able to get you out of my head." She answered quietly, shamelessly allowing her gaze to lower and absorb every inch of his lean, toned body.
"Oh." A sly smile on his face, Zuko no longer hesitated.
"Well then in that case." Katara blinked and his lips met hers.
Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Summary:
Zuko finally brings Katara's fantasies to life.
Notes:
You all deserve a lengthy amount of smut so get ready. I'm talking multiple chapters.
Keep in mind throughout this story that Katara does not hate aang, she doesn't want to hurt him. But she was frustrated and pent up and realized she had been wasting alot of time on a guy that doesn't make her feel the way Zuko does. This isn't an aang bash fest it's simply Katara going "Oh THATS what it's supposed to be like." For 2 whole chapters. 😂🙏
I see that sexy look in your eyes and I know
We ain't friends anymore
If we walk down this road
We'll be lovers for sure
So tonight, kiss me like it's do or die
And take me to the other side
Chapter Text
She squeaked in surprise, her hands taking a minute to register before flying to his body.
He kissed her like it gave him life. Opening his mouth to slide his tongue into hers. Hands roamed as they bit and sucked on puffing bottom lips.
"Zuko, I've wanted this so bad." She panted into his mouth.
"Me too." He rejoined, moving his mouth down to her jaw, down to her neck. He gripped her jaw with his hand to tilt her face up and give him better access.
Katara felt the burning heat between her thighs, the chaos of butterflies in her stomach and Tui and La, the sparks, both metaphorical and literal. Small harmless flames licked her neck as Zuko did the same.
There it was, the passion, the desire, the need. She couldn't possibly get enough of him, and him her.
Katara tangled her fingers in his hair and tugged his head back. Their eyes meeting, both half lidded, pupils blown and full of dangerous intent.
She kissed him again, and again, relishing in his taste and his warmth before taking her turn to move to his jaw and his neck. She sucked on his pulse point, nipped at his throat in animalistic hunger to taste more of his skin.
Eager to be wrapped up more in each other, she layed back on the bed and pulled him with her, hooking her legs around the backs of his thighs and sighed at the weight of him on top of her.
Her mouth never leaving him and her fevered ministrations never ceasing, she groaned into his neck at the pressure of his hard length against her progressively dampening core.
She decided then that he was wearing far too much clothing, even though he was completely shirtless.
She tracked her hands down his torso, ivory skin beneath featherlight touches, reaching his waistband and hooking her fingers under it.
"Mhm" was his basic grant of permission as he nipped at her earlobe.
Katara felt the warmth spreading behind her ears, knowing it wasn't just from the booze that still circulated her system. Everything beyond them vanishing rapidly and giving way to this once daydream of a moment.
"How did I get so lucky." He breathed into her hair, his voice was different, low and thick with arousal. He was going to be the death of her. This was what would take her to the spirit world and she would gladly let that happen.
"A beautiful girl coming to my door like that." She realized the remainder of the bottle he drank was likely hitting him and she grinned at the messy drunkenness of it all.
"I'm the lucky one baby." It felt so natural, all of it. So predestined that she knew she would question the last several months for the rest of her life. A powerful bender may just have been what was written in her stars and she had been oblivious and presumptuous to forget the other possibilities in her life.
They were yin and yang, push and pull, fire and water delving into each other in a mingle of powerful heat and graceful waves crashing together.
Katara finally pulled at his waistband, letting her legs fall apart from him so she could tug them down around his thighs.
She was aware Zuko had said something but the sudden slap of his cock against her lower abdomen muted his voice to her.
She pressed her body up into his, running her hands down his back and hooking her legs around his waist, his length shifting dangerously low and bringing a desperate want to her body.
His lips found her temple, and it was oddly romantic how he placed chaste kisses to it, a hand locating the thin bands of her lingerie at her rib cage.
"Katara?" He murmured against her.
"Huh?" Her chest heaved at the sound of her name coming from him, breathless and attentive.
"Are you particularly fond of these?" He pulled the strap back, letting it snap lightly against her skin.
"Right now I don't give a fu-" her words turned into a gasp as she felt the bands snap and fall away and a delicious heat burn her skin. The pain was slight but the impact was grand as she dug her nails into his flesh, leaving crescent moons on his back.
Zuko dipped his head into her neck and continued working over her flushed skin before he moved down to her collarbone. Placing kisses and love bites here and there as he worked his way down to her now exposed chest.
Scraps of her charred lingerie lay half hazard across her, only for a moment until Zuko grabbed them and tossed them off the bed to the floor.
"Wow, you are amazing." He praised once he reached her rapidly heaving breasts, her dark mocha buds peaking and summoning his mouth to them.
Katara let her head fall back as his warm tongue ran along one, flicking slowly across and then taking it into his mouth and sucking lightly.
"Oh…I…yes..thank you." She mumbled, her fingers drawing back up his body and stroking his neck almost lovingly.
Aang had never done this before.
His knowledge on what turned a girl on was severely limited and she just didn't care to ask him for anything. It wasn't like she was ever very eager to even go to bed with him so she knew that she would only feel awkward and uncomfortable even if he did do the things she wanted.
Assuming he managed to do it right. The poor guy fumbled every task he had taken on in the bedroom and while she couldn't be upset with him really, she could absolutely revel in someone else doing it right finally.
If it weren't for nearly a full bottle of the fire nation's best coursing through her veins she might feel guilty at what she was doing. But she just couldn't bring herself to focus on anything but Zukos mouth on her, the hand he wasn't supporting himself with sliding up to stroke her jaw, the weight of him ontop of her, his impressive erection…not where she needed it to be.
"Zuko.." She sighed, not wanting to disrupt him but eager for more.
"Mhm?" He continued to lick and suck at her, not even stopping to check in with her, which Aang would have done 5 times by now.
"Zuko, I want to taste you." She pleaded, looking down at him in time to see his gaze dart up beneath thick strands of dark hair.
"Mhm, and what if I'm not done tasting you?" She caught the smirk against her skin right before he nipped playfully at her sensitive nub. All the while still maintaining eye contact, mischievous and burning.
Katara knew she wasn't going to last long with him and she grew even more excited for the night of play ahead of them.
"Spirits." She breathed, lying her head back again.
Zuko just as quickly went back to his work, now moving down her body, by the time he was finished with her she'd have discolored marks all over her. Something about that made Katara tremble.
"I haven't even done anything yet and you're already shaking." Zuko chuckled as he ghosted his lips over her hip bone.
Katara could only groan in response, anticipating his clear path, fingers curling into his hair.
Once he reached his destination she tensed ever so slightly, waiting for it. He pulled the material between her legs aside, her mind racing, hair tickling her skin. But it didn't happen, instead he lowered further and stroked his tongue across her inner thighs.
"Here?" He asked her, oh Spirits his voice.
Katara whimpered, tugging gently at his hair soliciting another low chuckle, his breath tickling where she wanted him most.
"Oh….here?" Now the other thigh, this time brushing where her inner thighs met her body.
Another thing Aang never did. Zuko was teasing her, and it was turning her into a vibrating mess and as he had said, he hadn't even done anything yet.
Another whine escaped her lips.
"Zuko-oh!!" She was cut off by the flat of his warm tongue licking straight up her pussy and flicking off her clit.
"Fuck!" She shouted, digging her heels into his mattress.
"Here?" He sounded so innocent and so seductive at the same time.
"Agni, Zuko." Katara scraped at his scalp as he finally went to work on her.
This was all she wanted. To be shaking before the main event. To be dripping with want and need and have a man lap it up happily, sucking and licking in such a way that it had her squirming and lifting her hips off the bed.
Zuko hooked his arms under her legs and pulled her even further against his face, slipping his tongue inside of her and curling it. The physical sparks that came from his mouth hitting her and only fueling the inevitable.
"Does that feel good baby?" He asked before quickly biting at her thigh and returning to his task.
Katara panted heavily, rolling her hips against his mouth as he worked her over, sliding two strong fingers into her and pumping slowly.
"Uh-huh. Oh Spirits." She moaned, the familiar band coiling in her lower stomach, her core pulsating under his ministrations. Though this was a far more intense feeling than she had ever had before. Even before she came undone completely she could feel the waves of pleasure rolling through her.
When her climax hit she gripped his hair tight and let out a loud sob, her body tensing and trembling.
"Holy….fuck." She breathed, riding out her orgasm, stars dancing in her vision.
"You taste so good." Zuko murmured before giving her one last lick, sending a Shockwave through her.
She finally opened her eyes and looked down to meet his while he crawled back up on top of her. His chin slick with her arousal and climax, he placed a wet kiss to her lips, allowing her to taste herself on his tongue.
"See?" He asked when he pulled back. Katara nodded hurriedly.
"Hmmm." He hummed, looking down at her disheveled form beneath him, lustful eyes meeting his own as she continued to pant quietly.
"Is there anything else I can…give you?" He said, cocking his head and raising an eyebrow. Oh he's terrible.
Katara fought the childish pout and pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, raising her hips up to meet him. The bare space above her soaked pussy meeting his very hard length, the sound of air being sucked through teeth escaping them both.
Zuko lowered his lips to her ear.
"You're gonna have to use your words, Katara, I wouldn't want to do something you don't want." Even in asking for permission he sounded sultry and cocky.
Do it. Do it. Do it!! Her inner monologue screamed.
She had never asked for it like this. She had never been talked to like this. She recalled Aang asking her awkwardly if her wearing lingerie meant she wanted to try. It was almost clinical, save for the juvenile tone of excitement that lacked any composed lasciviousness.
Katara whimpered, becoming increasingly aware of the situation and Zukos dominant position. If Katara knew a year ago, that she'd end up in Firelord Zukos bed, whimpering beneath him with burning desire, she'd think she was absolutely wolfbat shit insane.
Zukos hand disappeared into her hair, gripping onto it in support as the other hand found its way to the red straps on her hips.
He replicated the snap of the band on her hip that he had done on her chest piece.
"Tell me what you want Katara." His teeth grazed the shell of her ear tauntingly.
"I want you." She whined.
"All of you….please." Katara was not a beggar and he knew it. And something about his ability to draw desperate pleading and whining from her made them both bite their bottom lips and groan.
Katara raised her hips to meet his, moving up against him. A horrible, delicious friction with nothing but the thin, wet lace between them.
A low growl resonated in Zukos throat as he pushed back, grinding into her.
"All of me?" He asked, repeating her words with smooth implications and then she felt the heat again. A sharp sting at her hip, and then he was ripping the scraps from her to join the top on the floor.
And suddenly there was nothing between them. Katara groaned at the feeling of him on her. Skin against skin, her hands in his hair, his mouth latching onto her neck as he lined himself up.
Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Summary:
Katars and Zuko cross the barrier.
Notes:
I actually intended for this to be strictly filthy and hot but it would have disparaged the story and you know I can't help myself adding some hard-core fluff. Plus I needed it to be clear that Katara didn't just break up with Aang cuz he's bad in bed. Katara isn't that shallow, this is supposed to be a revelation for Katara so she knows she did the right thing. The next couple chapters will have a clearer thinking Katara now that she's finally got that horny fog handled. 😂🔥
Fading in, fading out
On the edge of paradise
Every inch of your skin is a holy grail I've got to find
Only you can set my heart on fire, on fire
Yeah, I'll let you set the pace
'Cause I'm not thinking straight
My head's spinning around I can't see clear no more
What are you waiting for?
Chapter Text
The ache between Kataras legs would have incapacitated her if she tried to get up. She was his completely and in that moment. Every sinful thought, every inappropriate indulgence that left her breathless alone in her room, every glimpse of bare skin, the sound of him panting as he reached his climax behind an unwelcome door, all came flooding to the forefront of her mind.
She had wanted this so badly and she couldn't believe she had wasted so much time thinking she could force it to happen with Aang. This felt like nature's grand design and she had been disobeying it this whole time.
And her thoughts of making a baby now didn't feel like it would be a chore, but something she would happily drop to her knees for even if every test came back negative.
Katara craved more of him, burying her face into the crook of his neck and breathing in the scent of smoke and sandalwood.
He rolled his hips against her, sliding his length up, and then moving back down, sometimes pushing slightly so that there was a bittersweet pressure at her entrance that had her coming unraveled beneath him.
"Spirits Zuko, please!" She whined against him.
He sunk his teeth into her neck, both dominating and affectionate, as he finally pushed himself into her.
Their moans reverberating off the walls as he sunk deeper and deeper before bottoming out.
"Good girl." Zuko let go of her and growled in her ear, holding himself still so she could adjust to his sizable length. Katara moaned softly at his praise.
If the electric sparks between them didn't tell her this was destiny then the feel of him inside her did it. Where her and Aang was like trying to fit the wrong puzzle pieces together, her and Zuko were a perfect fit. He was made for her and her for him.
The pulsating in her core increased as he sheathed himself to the hilt, stretching her out and filling her completely.
"Oh fuck, Zuko…" She dropped her head back and raised her hips in a silent request for him to move.
"You're so perfect Katara." He mumbled into her neck, clearly feeling the same as her.
He slowly rolled his hips again, the friction and pressure of him moving inside of her was enough to make her thighs tremble.
"Good?" He asked simply. The butterflies in Kataras stomach flapped chaotically as her heart thumped fast in her chest. He was quite honestly perfect in every way. He still checked in with her but he did it right. In a way Katara didn't know how to ask for. His voice still heavy with desire, his words quick and open to any kind of response and it still gave her the option to back out if she wasn't comfortable, or to even make a request.
But she had nothing but praise for him teetering on her lips that took a sidestep for the string of moans and gasps.
"So…fucking…good." She answered.
"You feel so fucking good Zuko." Tui and La, this is what she wanted. She could fuse with him and still not be close enough.
She let herself indulge in the craziness of it all as he rocked his body into hers.
This was Zuko.
Push.
The banished fire prince, their enemy,
Pull.
The man she hated with every fibre of her being.
Push.
Aangs firebending teacher.
Pull.
Firelord.
Push.
Her savior.
Pull
Hot-headed, stubborn, obsessive
Push
dominating, sexy, brooding
Pull
passionate, awkward, good hearted
Push.
"Zuko." She breathed, tuggingnhis hair so he would lean back and meet her eyes.
A happy little hum escaped through a boyish smile as his striking amber eyes, half lidded and blazing, locked onto her blue steel gaze.
His hips still moving at a leisurely pace, in and out, in and out.
"Do you even know how perfect you are?" She cradled his face in her hands, and placed a delicate and lingering kiss to his scar.
"Oh agni be careful woman you're gonna make me fall in love with you." He rested his forehead against hers.
"My beautiful Katara, I don't deserve this." He said, before placing his own kiss to her forehead.
Katara felt a blissful panic she had never felt before.
Enemies, to friends, to suddenly…whatever this was. And Katara realized then that this was going to be a quick and exhilarating tumble into love that would claim her very soul.
Her chest ached, her entire body vibrating with a desperate need for more from him.
Zuko kept his lips to her forehead and his fist in her hair as he picked up the pace.
Katara could already feel her climax winding up within her. She tilted her face so that she could place kisses along his throat, feeling the vibrations of his dulcet moans against her lips. Raspy, euphoric, sounds she would conjure up in her mind at will and remember this elating moment.
"Oh Zuko, you're wonderful." She murmured. She sucked lightly at his neck, her hands pulling gently on his hair, her hips raising to meet his thrusts.
Zuko hummed in response, lowering his face to hers and resting his forehead against hers as he moved inside her more feverishly.
The sounds of breathless passion filled the room, the candles on his side table danced wildly and Katara knew it was because of him. His skin was growing hotter and hotter, sparks whispering across her lips as he panted into her mouth.
"Beautiful girl." Zuko sighed.
"I'll take care of you, Katara."
And I will never let you go. Her thoughts responded, her hands moving down his back, feeling every inch of alabaster skin that trembled under her touch. She could tell he was holding back.
"Zuko." She breathed, nipping at his bottom lip and pulling at him, urging him to let go.
"Come on baby, I want everything you've got."
Zukos rhythm was smooth and controlled, his arms tense, the bridle on his movements tight.
"I'm really close." He responded, his teeth gritting as he bucked into her a little harder.
Agni his voice. Breathless and breaking in just the right ways as he started to pound into her mercilessly.
"Fuck!" Katara yelled, her eyes rolling, her nails digging into the flesh of his back and raking down. Zuko hissed at her clawing but didn't stutter in his movements.
"Katara." He warned, teetering on the edge, every thrust threatening to pull him down.
"Cum for me baby." She moaned, feeling her own climax begging for release but she held out, focusing on him.
"But you haven't, I'll have to pull-"
"No, fill me up Zuko, give it all to me. I told you what I want." She mewled, thrusting her hands back into his hair and punctuating her words by sucking at his bottom lip.
"But…Katara." He argued, his voice straining, his rhythm faltering.
Katara felt him tense, his thrusts growing choppy and a low warped moan escaping him.
"Katara…seriously, I'm gonna-" Katara felt him go to pull out of her and she moved fast.
Hooking her legs tight around the back of his thighs, she tugged him against her hard, lifted her hips off the bed to press into him and hold him there. His final thrusts, mixed with her restraining him caused him to slam into her hard and drawing a loud yelp from her.
The sound Zuko made was like drinking another bottle of red. Katara felt painfully love drunk as his cock twitched inside her, pumping everything he had into her. Strangled and breathy sounds falling from his lips as Katara caught his mouth with hers and swallowed his moans.
she felt the rapid climbing, the tightening, the beautiful pressure and the mind numbing ecstasy she had been searching so hard for as she careened over the edge with him.
Zuko's body trembled and jerked at her rhythmic pulsing, her body milking him of every drop.
"Ah, fuck." He gasped, moving in her again, grinding them through the aftershock with the added friction that made each Shockwave an electric and blissful paraesthesia.
Katara hummed contentedly once he stilled in her and dropped his head down into the crook of her neck.
Her heart still racing in her chest, Katara wanted to cry at the rush of emotions.
She wrapped herself around him and held him tightly against her, a hand coming to stroke his hair.
She could feel him softening inside her, his cum leaking from her and dripping down onto his bed.
Normally she would feel uncomfortable, gross, unsatisfied, and almost depressed as Aang climbed off of her.
But this was so incredibly different it was like a shock to her system.
Her body was still shaking lightly from the pleasure. The feel of his ragged breath on her neck, his warm skin against hers, hearts beating against each other. Her fingers running through his soft, dark hair that was now an absolute mess from her tugging and tangling. The raw, tender pulsing in her core that would remind her for days just how well he had satisfied her. It was all so overwhelming in the best way, flooding her entire being with immeasurable oxytocin.
"Zuko." She whispered, the hand that wasn't stroking his hair came to the side of his face.
"Hmm." He hummed back.
"Let me look at you." She asked gently.
It took him a moment before he lifted his head up and looked into her eyes.
Spirits, this man was dangerous.
There was that boyish smile again, eyes half lidded, an expression that she could fall in love with so easily.
"Agni, you're gorgeous." He truly was. Like this, he was stunning, naked in her arms, smiling at her wistfully.
She sighed, stroking his hair more before moving to touch her fingers to the pink flesh of his scar.
Zuko leaned down and planted a kiss to the tip of her nose and then her lips. Another and another, longer and deeper each time.
Katara thought she might happily die in this moment of lazy tenderness.
"Thank you." She breathed between each bruising kiss.
After what felt like a lifetime, tangled up in eachother, kisses, touches and whispers, Zuko finally pulled himself off of Katara.
She suddenly felt so lonely and desperate at the loss of him against her.
"I'm sorry beautiful, I have a meeting tomorrow so I should really get some sleep." He smiled at her, his eyes heavy.
Katara sat up, for the first time in her life she didn't try to cover herself up. She didn't think she ever looked away from him consciously since she walked into his room.
He tugged his pants back up and sat back on his heels.
"I'm sorry." She said with an innocent and apologetic smile.
"Don't be. I hope you're OK." He said gently.
Katara chewed on her lip thoughtfully.
She was no longer drunk, and she was sure she would be plagued with various emotions in the morning but then in that moment she could only feel a blessed satisfaction and abundance of adoration.
"I feel wonderful. Thank you, Zuko." She answered.
"I'll always be here for you Katara. I know you were drinking and might regret this tomorrow. But…no matter what, I'll be here." He smiled softly at her.
"Accept when I'm in my meeting. Then I'll be…in a meeting, I won't be here but…I…spiritually? Will be…" He stammered.
Katara giggled at him, he was always so adorably awkward.
"I do not and will never regret this, Zuko. I've never been with someone like you before, you're amazing." She said, leaning forward to cup his scarred cheek.
Fiery amber meeting calm seas, they stared at each other in silence for a moment before Katara finally slid off his bed.
"Oh…" She looked down at her naked body.
Zuko chuckled and she noted the almost cocky, proud tone to it. It sounded very much like when they were wrapped up in eachother, lost in passion.
"Here." He said, grabbing his robe off the bed and handing it to her. She hadn't noticed that there before and suddenly she just wanted him to make love to her while she wore it. Claim her rightfully.
Katara blushed as she took the robe from him and pulled it over herself.
It wasn't a common fire nation robe. It was very clearly the Firelord's royal robe, gold trim decorating the thick lavish fabric.
The same robe she had seen him in those couple times. If someone were to see her wearing it so late at night, it would be the talk of the capitol.
"Thank you." She smiled, tying the robe around herself.
He nodded at her and looked as though he was going to say something but his mouth stretched open in a big yawn instead.
It was the cutest thing she had ever seen, next to momo and appa sleeping together.
"I'll let you get some sleep." She said, opening his door.
"Goodnight Zuko."
"Goodnight sweetheart." He was already shimmying under the blankets and extinguishing the candles with a flick of his wrist.
Katara's smile grew wide as she stepped out into the hall and closed the door quietly behind her.
She noticed two guards at their post down at the end of the hall and Katara was grateful they appeared to be distracted by their conversation. The sound of their laughter carried down the quiet, nearly empty hall.
When she made it to her room and had disappeared through the door, she leaned against it, trying to will herself to calm down and get ready for bed.
Her entire body and in between her legs was sore and wet, Zukos cum randomly dripping from her and running down her legs.
She didn't bother with it, simply reveling in the feel of him around her. The smell of him on her skin, his robe hugging her body, and the memories of him in her head as she simply climbed into bed and promptly fell asleep.
Chapter 10: Chapter 10
Summary:
Katara hides in her room to avoid Aang and gets a quick visit from Suki.
Notes:
I actually love the idea of Katara and Suki being best girl friends. They're closer in age and Suki is the least attached to Aang so I feel like she wouldn't be influenced as much by him.
They say I did something bad
Then why's it feel so good?
They say I did something bad
But why's it feel so good?
Most fun I ever had
And I'd do it over and over and over again if I could
It just felt so good, good
Chapter Text
"Oh…agni." Katara groaned, her eyes blinking open.
The sun cascaded onto her walls, signifying that morning had come and gone and she had yet to rise. It must have been close to noon.
She might have jumped out of bed in a hurry to start her day of doing basically nothing at all, but the mild headache kept her in place.
Besides, she was sure Aang had informed everyone of their breakup by now and she did not want to go near anyone today. Anyone except a particular firebender.
Katara winced at the soreness between her legs as she sat up. Zuko was much bigger than Aang and she hadn't considered how she'd be paying for it afterwards.
Memories of last night flooded her mind and she looked down at the robe that was wrapped around her. She hugged it against her body and found peace in the scent of sandalwood and smoke that clung to it.
Katara had missed breakfast by alot and her growling stomach was not very happy with her.
She got up and stretched out her muscles. Her body complained, longing to return to the bed and sleep off the events of last night until her head stopped aching and she recovered.
Then she noticed the tray on the floor infront of her door.
Katara cocked her head and moved to the tray, stopping and finding a note pinned beneath the covered dish.
I thought you might sleep in. I got you breakfast so you didn't miss out. I'm sure you need it. -Z.
She smirked, hearing the cocky tone even in his writing.
She lifted the silver lid up to expose the muffin, fresh fruit and spinach.
Spinach?
She decided not to question that contribution as it was Zuko after all. However she didn't remember ever seeing spinach as a breakfast option before.
She sighed happily and took the tray and note back to her bed to eat while she appreciated the view out her window.
She could see the ornate fountain she liked to practice her bending at.
Her mind threatened to drift to Aang and the chaos that ensued before she ended up in Zuko's bed.
Another sigh escaped her, this time full of anxiety and guilt as she picked at her food.
……
When Katara was finally faced with the outside world it was by a quiet knock on her door.
Her nerves had gotten the better of her and she had chosen to stay in her room for as long as possible, throwing Zukos robe over her bed post and finding something comfortable to wear. A couple hours had passed, chapters of her book filling her head with all kinds of ideas and feelings.
Katara froze at the rap on her door, anticipating the worst but hoping for the best.
It ended up being somewhere in the middle as she opened the door and was met by Suki.
"Oh hey." Katara said quietly, unsure of whether Suki was aware of what had transpired.
"Hey Katara, is everything OK? You haven't left your room and we are starting to get worried." She said with a sympathetic frown.
Katara still couldn't read the results in her tone or her face. She sighed and stepped back, allowing Suki entry into her room.
"Oh, ya I'm just not feeling the best today." She answered. It was both the truth and a bold faced lie as she had never felt better but also felt like complete shit at the same time.
Suki took a seat on Kataras bed.
"Well that doesn't sound good. What's going on?" She asked, tilting her head curiously.
Katara closed her door and sat next to Suki.
Her assumption, based on Sukis complete lack of connection, was that she had no idea.
Katara was surprised, seeing how Aang react last night; she couldn't imagine he wasn't locked in his room himself or rampaging through the palace.
"My head hurts and.." She figured she could be honest without giving detail, but the diagnosis on her aching body might not be so easy to work around.
"...my mind is just…" She waved her hand in a weak solidifying gesture, at a loss for accurate words.
Suki nodded.
"Is there anything i can do to help?" Suki asked.
Katara shook her head.
"I can get Aang?" So it was confirmed.
Katara shook her head a little too eagerly.
"No its alright….he'd just fuss over me and be all worried. I'm fine really. I'm sure I'm just coming down with something so maybe don't get too close." Katara placed the back of her hand to her forehead, pretending to check for a fever.
Suki sat for a moment, chewing her cheek in thought.
"Maybe you're finally pregnant?" She offered, causing Katara to tense.
That technically could be possible but the thought of it unnerved Katara, it would be Aangs obviously and she dreaded the idea of it. She knew her current symptoms weren't from pregnancy but she hadn't considered the possibility of falling pregnant with his child sometime in the last couple weeks.
"Maybe…" She stared at the floor disjointedly.
"I'll have Toph examine me tomorrow. Right now I just want to lie in bed with my book."
Suki nodded again.
"What are you reading?" She asked, looking at the open novel near Kataras pillows.
"Love Amongst the Dragons." Katara answered.
"Ooh, that play Zuko was talking about that one day. Isn't that a romance story about a waterbender and a firebender?" Katara told herself there was no hinting or suspicion in her voice.
"Yes, it's actually a very good book. Thought it might inspire me. I finally decided to break out that lacey set you bought me." She was treading on thin ice but it was better to steer them away from the book.
A sly smile spread across Suki's face.
"Oh ya? Bet that will be the one that does it eh? I imagine most women wind up pregnant after wearing a set like that." Katara blushed deeply.
Oh I might just end up pregnant but it won't be by the person she intended that to be for.
Katara forced a laugh.
Suki suddenly locked onto something behind Katara, causing Katara to follow her entranced gaze.
Her eyes settled on Zuko's crimson robe hung on her bed post.
Shit.
"Is that Zuko's?" She asked, a tone of confusion to her question.
Katara had to fight the panic response while also responding quickly enough as to not rouse suspicion.
"Uh, yeah, I borrowed it from him…last night…"
Shit. Shit. You've got nothing!
"...I was waterbending and some icicles cut up my shirt. He happened to be out and about and loaned me his robe." Katara held her breath, awaiting Suki's response.
"That was nice of him. You didn't hurt yourself did you?" She replied, pulling the robe off the post and into her lap.
"No, I'm OK." Suki looked at Katara and, once again, cocked her head.
"Are you sure about that you have…marks on your neck." She moved to touch what Katara assumed to be one of the marks.
"Oh…I guess I did get myself then." She tensed as Suki placed her fingertips to a dark bruise that sat amongst many on Kataras neck.
"These look like…" That sly smile appeared again and she pulled her hand away.
Katara remembered that she didn't have to be so inconspicuous, she was still with Aang in the eyes of the group.
Katara looked away with a shy smile. Sure the cat was out of the bag on that one but Katara felt amused at the thought that the cats were very different in both girls minds.
"So where is Aang?" Katara asked after a minute of uninterrupted silence. Suki had been fawning over the intricate gold design on Zuko's robe.
"I'm not sure actually. We saw him this morning, he was getting Appa tacked up but didn't say where he was going. He seemed a little out of sorts too." She folded the robe neatly and placed it on Kataras bed before standing up.
"Well I'll leave you to it then. I'll send Aang your way if I see him again. Make sure you give the Firelord his robe back. And try not to get him sick, he's got more meetings coming up and it's kind of hard to hold a meeting in the fire nation without the firelord." She smiled softly at Katara and opened the door.
"Thanks Suki." Katara returned the smile and watched as her friend left her bedroom.
Katara mulled over Sukis promise to send Aang to her room. While she would rather throw herself off a high cliff than face him any time soon, she knew that they couldn't leave things the way they were. She hoped that he wasn't out there somewhere getting into some sort of trouble.

Chapter Text
It wasn't until the early evening that Aang finally came to Katara's door.
"Come in." Katara sighed, recognizing the light knock.
She put her nearly finished book down on her side table and tucked Zuko's robe, that she had been using as a blanket, under her pillows.
"Hey." He sounded defeated instead of angry and Katara couldn't decide which was worse.
She refused to meet his eyes, staring in front of her at the bed absentmindedly toying with the hem of her pant leg.
"Hey." She replied quietly.
"I'm sorry…I just thought I'd check up on you, Suki said you weren't feeling well."
Katara felt the pain in her chest return. He loved her so much, and even after last night he still cared about her.
The overwhelming obligation to give in once again came back. She didn't want him like that and he knew it now, but she felt as if it wasn't about her. Like her feelings and her wants weren't valid. Not that Aang was responsible for these notions, and she reminded herself of that.
"I'm alright. Just not handling all of this very well, which sounds bad since I'm the one who…" She trailed off, eyes darting to his briefly and catching the hurt on his face.
"It sounded like you were handling it really well last night." Aang looked away from her, his demeanor growing bitter.
Kataras heart stopped for a moment.
"What…" She didn't know what to ask him. She knew she'd just anger him further if she played dumb but she didn't want to bring light to anything incase she was misreading.
"I heard you guys Katara, my room is right next to his." He bit back.
Kataras shoulders slumped and her gaze shifted back to the bed.
"I'm sorry Aang I was very drunk and I didn't want to be alone." She couldn't decide if that was the truth or not but it didn't matter.
Aang didn't say anything for awhile. Katara felt her nerves jittering in her fingers.
"I don't know what to say Aang. I'm really sorry. I can't force myself to feel a certain way and i'm sure you wouldn't want me to." She said finally. She looked back to him, taking in the way he nodded solemnly, leaning against the small desk by her door.
Katara paused briefly. Waiting for Aang to say something, but again, he didn't.
"I know you don't want to hear it but I do love you Aang. I love you so much you have no idea. But just not like that and I'm so sorry. You are an amazing guy but we…" She gestured between them despite his averted gaze.
"..don't belong together."
Aang looked at her with a sad smile.
"So I guess you and Zuko do?" He asked almost sickly.
Katara's face fell. She knew the timing of what she had done with Zuko was amazingly terrible to say the least, and it felt insensitive to Aang to have even done it so quickly, let alone be discussing it with him less than 24 hours after. But she knew she could put his mind at ease a little bit, even if what she said wasn't completely true.
"No Aang, Noone said that. I was drunk, he had a bit too. I was upset and I needed the distraction." Her words cheapened and disparaged her night with Zuko and she felt gross saying all of it but in that moment she just needed to protect his feelings.
For all she knew, Zuko might happily back her words and actually mean it. It would possibly destroy her but she couldn't speak for him and even if the situation wasn't what it was and she was simply venting to Aang, she couldn't exactly say they were in love now.
It was a hot intimate night between friends, and for now it would have to be considered just that until time had its say in the matter.
Aang nodded, swallowing thickly and Katara could hear his next question before he even said it.
"Was he good?"
Katara groaned loudly and buried her face in her hands.
"Aang don't." She said shaking her head.
"I want to know Katara. I'm not a complete child, if you can tell me right now that you were satisfied last night with him, happy, ecstatic even, there's a chance I might be able to come to terms with this. Because in my head I don't believe we are meant for anyone but each other. I believe you've been through alot, I was your first, and the pressure of trying was getting to you. We were good Katara, and suddenly you started slipping away from me and I just feel…" He stopped, shaking his head.
"I just feel like this isn't about me, or us as a couple. I feel like you're lost and I feel like you got scared." He finished, standing straight now and staring at her intently.
Katara shook her head again and looked at him.
"Aang….I don't know how to answer you. I'm trying to be sensitive. I'm trying not to hurt you. But it's like you're forcing my hand and I'm already the bad guy here. Why make it so much worse."
"What do you mean?" He asked cautiously.
"Aang, I don't want to be with you like that. I've said that. For different reasons. You're more like a best friend to me. We had that for so long and then we were suddenly kissing and whispering and having sex! And it was too much for me! It felt weird and awkward. It's not a comment on you, but I was trying so hard the whole time to find a way to want this. But it just got harder…and harder…and more serious. I couldn't have a child with you when I wasn't happy with our relationship Aang." She explained with exasperation.
"But you still want a child. You always have." He added with a slight frown.
"Yes. And I still do very much. And that was one reason of many that I tried so hard to make this work with you, but it would have been wrong. It wouldn't have been fair to you, me or the baby. I know that this is all terrible for you and again, I am so sorry. But you're young and you can find someone who will be jumping at the chance to be with you."
Katara could see the tears in his eyes and she prayed they didn't spill over. She needed to keep him calm and she wasn't doing a very good job of it.
"I guess I just hoped maybe some time to yourself would help us." He said quietly.
"No Aang. It wouldn't have because love…attraction…doesn't need a break, time apart, to build. Sure it's good to have some space once in awhile but there has to be love and attraction to begin with. There has to be something there to strengthen and there wasn't. I still missed you whenever you were in meetings or hanging out with Sokka or sparring with Toph. I still enjoyed last night with you but when it gets….intimate….It feels wrong. And I don't want that to hurt you. But we aren't meant to be together Aang. I have to be honest with you. I'm sorry." She sighed loudly and rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly.
Again, Aang thought over her words in silence. Shuffling his feet and staring at nothing in particular to the side.
"So….then…how do you feel about Zuko? You say love and attraction needs to be there. And if all that time with me didn't help, and you felt so uncomfortable with us…being…" He gestured between them much like Katara had done.
"Than what was different with Zuko? I never noticed anything between you before. You were very quick about it Katara it just makes me wonder." He chewed his lip and gave her a wounded look, he had figured it out and it was her own fault. But she didn't have to be crass or insensitive. Katara took a minute to think about her next words carefully.
"I was trying. I really was. That entire evening I had planned out for us. I did it all for you Aang. So trust me when I say I had the best intentions for us, for you. That I never wanted to hurt you, and I never thought I would end up hurting you." She took a deep breath before continuing.
"I have to be honest about my feelings towards Zuko. Because I don't want you thinking something horrible. I don't want you to think that you're just an issue here and that you aren't good enough. That I would happily jump into anyone's bed but yours. But it is impossible here, not to hurt you in some way if you're going to insist on asking me these questions." She looked at him, leaning slightly to catch his eyes and draw them to hers. Giving him the chance to tell her he'd rather not hear this, wrap this up and go their separate ways for now.
But Aang merely cocked his eyebrow at her and chewed at his bottom lip. She almost hated him in that moment for making her say things to him she didn't want to say. But he deserved an explanation. He deserved to understand what was going on. She was his supposed life long partner 24 hours ago and she spontaneously pulled the rug out from under him. It was only fair that he had complete closure so he could mourn his relationship and move on.
Katara sighed again, looking back to the bed.
"So many things told me that the world wanted me to be with you. And I trusted that because…you're you. You're the avatar. Our savior. My best friend. And the most loving, caring, loyal person I think I might ever meet. You're truly amazing Aang." Aang blushed at her praise. But she could see as she looked at him briefly, just as clearly, the sorrow in his eyes. She turned her attention back to the blanket in front of her.
"But I'm not like you Aang. I like to help people and I'd like to think I have my good moments as a friend. I try to be a good person. And I wish I were as perfect as you. And I mean that. You are a person to be admired. But I am a simple watertribe peasant. I say that as a simple fact, Aang." She said when she heard him start to protest, cutting him off.
"Thats my title. I'm not the avatar. I'm a simple woman, a simple human. And I am far from perfect. My mind goes to dark places sometimes. I do stupid things often and my eyes wander when they shouldn't." She looked up at Aang again. Maintaining eye contact as he digested what she was saying.
"I had never done anything about it but my mind has betrayed me and as I said, I cannot control what I'm pulled to. But I tried Aang. I put my all into righting my path but destiny showed me last night that I was forcing my fate to what I thought it was supposed to be. And I was fighting with it. It was a battle I wasn't going to win. I had to accept that before it was too late. I didn't intend on putting you through any of that last night and I didn't intend on ending up…where I ended up. But it was the first time in a very long time that I stopped fighting myself. I focused on what felt right and trusted in my destiny. I let it lead me and I found something that I know, at least then, was right." Her chest heaved as she tried not to panic. At this point she was essentially spilling her guts to the last person who should hear any of this.
"So…you think you're meant to be with Zuko." Aang asked again. His voice was calm and she hoped that all this communication might be helping. She knew it likely wasn't but he no longer looked like he was coming apart.
"I don't know Aang. Because I've decided to stop trying to guess what is meant for me. Because that's how I ended up hurting you in the end. I need to let what happens happen and trust in my path as it's given to me. It felt right. And that's all I'm going to say. But all I really know is, you and I were meant to be in eachothers lives. Clearly. After all we've been through. I can't lose you Aang." Katara shifted off the bed, moving to stand infront of him, her expression hopeful and apologetic.
He gave her a sad smile and pulled her into an unexpected hug.
"You will never lose me Katara." His voice was breaking and she wanted to stay in that moment for as long as possible. Feeling free and whole at the embrace of her best friend.
The sense of closure made her smile over his shoulder. She knew there would still be pain for him, and awkwardness. But she didn't have to lie to herself anymore and she didn't have to feel guilty.
Maybe it wasn't so bad that he made her confess it all to him. Being an air nomad really gave him a large understanding of peace and tranquility. This was the best way to handle the situation. And she was grateful that of anyone, she was going through this with him.
"I don't want to tell anyone yet though. I just…I just want to process it myself for a little while first if that's OK." Aang said quietly.
"Of course, Aang."
They hugged in silence for a good while before Aang finally spoke up again.
"Do you want to get out of here finally and get some dinner? Sokka, Toph and Suki are probably in the mess hall already." Aang said softly as he pulled away from her.
Katara smiled and nodded her head.
"I'm starving." She said and soaked in the sound of Aang's laugh. She prayed that she wouldn't ever stop hearing it, that was one of her greatest fears.
"I bet!" He gave her a reassuring yet sad smile, opened the door and gestured for her to go first into the hallway.
A gentleman as always, Katara thought.
Chapter 12: Chapter 12
Summary:
Katara finds Zuko with a message for Iroh that she's about to forget about completely.
Notes:
Alright, after all that seriousness we have to have some absolutely filthy, kinky smut, right? Right.
Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down, eat you alive
Just like animals, animals, like animals, —mals
Maybe you think that you can hide
I can smell your scent from miles
Just like animals, animals, like animals, —mals
Chapter Text
Katara enjoyed the shared meals with the gaang. She felt blessed by the company that she had worried would dwindle and break apart upon the end of the war. Especially given the current circumstances, that concern had only grown tenfold.
Sokka and Toph were bickering over empty bowls, Suki telling Sokka to lay off the poor blind girl, which only made Toph more ornery.
Aang sat across from Katara. He looked lost in thought, staring off in the distance with a concentration to his face that Katara understood was him mulling over everything that had happened between them.
It was going to take time.
Katara seemed to be the only one to immediately notice the happy old man approaching their table.
"Hello, young warriors." He greeted cheerfully upon reaching them.
The 3 voices at the table stopped and everyone turned respectfully to address Iroh.
"Wonderful dinner tonight. I had enough for this whole table, I think I'm ready for a long nap." He grinned, patting his stomach gleefully.
The group smiled back at him. Iroh was always a positive presence and Katara wondered, sometimes, if he was aware of how he could make people smile.
"It was very lovely." Suki agreed, stretching across the table to gather and stack the empty dishes.
"I was hoping one of you kind younglings would deliver a message to my nephew as soon as you can. I have….plans." He bumped his eyebrows up and down at them.
Katara chuckled.
"Could there be a new lady in your life, Iroh?" She teased.
"Oh maybe." Iroh sighed happily.
"I need him to know there was a last minute meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 9am and his attendance has been requested."
"Will I need to be there?" Aang asked.
Despite fulfilling a major key moment of his destiny, Aang was still very much a part of things in the world. He was seen as a sort of God in ways. If anything important was happening in the nations, the almighty Avatar would be there to help in any way he could.
Iroh thought for a moment.
"If you'd like to attend you are more than welcome, however you have not been summoned for this particular meeting young Avatar." Iroh bowed respectfully to which Aang returned.
Iroh repeated the gesture at the group as a whole, once again being met with several bows back.
"Thank you. Now I need to go buy some panda lilies!" Iroh grinned before shuffling off and leaving the group to their own devices.
Katara noticed Aang looking at her thoughtfully.
Suki and Sokka were whispering to each other and giggling, triggering Katara's gag reflex.
"Aang we missed our morning spar today since you took off without any explanation." Toph piped up.
Aang looked at the blind earthbender.
"Ah, yeah sorry about that. I needed some time to myself." His expression looked melancholy, eyes darting to Katara.
"Ya well you owe me a scrap, Twinkle toes." She said pointedly.
"Alright alright, but someone needs to tell Zuko about the meeting." Aang responded, standing up and eyeing the couple absorbed in their own romance.
It was actually rather amusing, and slightly irritating, how they never once looked up since Iroh left. Maybe if it weren't for one of them being her brother, Katara might find it sweet, but in this case scenario, it was gross and made her want to chuck a bowl at them.
"Katara can do it, let's go, I don't have all day to kick your ass." Toph stood up, waving a hand at Katara as she spoke.
Aang and Katara locked eyes.
"I'll do it. But give him an extra kick for me would you?" Katara obliged, turning her attention to Toph.
"Oh absolutely!" Toph grinned at Aang, who let out a sigh and turned away to leave with the excitable blind bandit, avoiding Kataras stare all the while.
Katara hadn't seen Zuko since the night prior, and it oddly felt like it had been a week. An onslaught of varied emotions surged through her mind.
She looked to her brother and his girlfriend and decided she wasn't even going to bother. Abandoning them with the table of dishes Katara headed for Zuko's chambers in hopes of finding him there.
…..
Skin against skin, tongues and teeth, hips grinding against each other, instinctive sounds of heated passion. Whispers by worn candles, delicate touches and kisses, adoration in a love drunken stooper.
Katara's heart picked up, thrumming hard in her chest as she turned the corner into the hall with the few bedrooms belonging to Zuko and the group.
When she reached his door she knocked instantly, counteracting the hesitation that would only cause her to spiral into her own nerves.
Katara heard a sound from the room that confirmed someone was in there. She knocked again.
Still sounds behind the door but Noone answered. Katara exhaled in frustration, remembering how she had essentially just walked into his room that night unwelcomed because apparently her knock was far too quiet and Zuko's room was quite large.
She grabbed the door handle and turned, slowly opening the door so as not to immediately burst in and scare the daylights out of him.
She hadn't considered her own ability and large possibility to be startled as her eyes searched the room and settled on Zuko lying on his bed.
His back against the headboard, head tossed back over his crimson pillows. Not a stitch of clothing on him, legs parted slightly, and his impressive manhood, flushed and erect in his hand.
Beads of precum glistening on the tip, he stroked himself slowly, base to tip and back again, soft and breathy moans escaping his parted lips as his other hand massaged his balls.
Katara froze in place, momentarily forgetting that the door was still open for anyone to walk past and see the Firelord jerking off, completely oblivious.
Katara felt her body light up like a bolt of lightning in the sky. Her core pulsing as all the blood ran from her head. She felt tingly with the overwhelming urge to do terribly bad things to him.
She realized she hadn't actually seen him before. When they got together the night before, she had felt him through his pants, and of course she had felt him inside of her but she hadn't actually looked at it, or touched it with no barrier.
Her bottom lip caught between her teeth and rapidly increasing dampness between her legs, Katara allowed all critical thinking to take a dive. She stripped from her clothing quickly and took a step forward, not before quietly closing the door behind her.
She marveled at how completely out of it he was. It was quite honestly concerning as anybody could have walked in here, he was lucky it was her.
His hand picked up the pace, the gleaming pearls now running down his shaft and getting swiped by his hand to coat him.
Her eyes trained on him with animalistic hunger as she took another step and braved her voice.
"Now that's a waste." The predatory tone her words took on surprised even her. But it was nothing compared to how it surprised him.

Chapter Text
Zuko tensed, ceasing all movement. In complete understanding that there was not much he could do to recover from being caught, he simply lifted his head forward to meet her half lidded gaze.
"I didn't tell you to stop." She said so simply that she might as well have interrupted him doing paperwork.
Zuko's wide eyed stare calmed ever so slightly at the delayed recognition.
However he still didn't continue his actions, his eyes raking down her naked body.
A sly smile slinked across Katara's face at the twitch of his cock, still in his hand.
"Hmmm, Katara." He hummed, laying his head back again and slowly stroking himself.
"You're supposed to knock first." He scolded.
Katara smirked, moving closer to the foot of the bed.
"I did. You were too busy to hear apparently." She reached the bed and wasted no time climbing up on top and crawling in between his legs.
"The thought of you can be very distracting." He replied smoothly, his eyes closed, his hands moving together to work himself over.
Katara longed to simply sit back and watch him, let him give her a show. But her ache to get involved was far too strong.
She stared intently at his ministrations, learning what he liked while simultaneously acknowledging and appreciating his cum slicked cock.
His length, his girth, the shade of pink his head was. The dark trail of hair leading to the neatly trimmed patch, and the thick muscle and bulging veins running up the shaft. She longed to run her tongue up it, clean him off and pull him over the edge with her mouth.
Katara chose to ignore the saliva pooling in her mouth, knowing he was likely close and not wanting to waste a drop of his seed.
She climbed over his hips and held herself over his lower abdomen, causing Zuko to raise his head and look at her again.
"Did you come to play?" He smirked at her, cocking an eyebrow and pulling his hands out from under her.
"It just looked like such fun, I didn't want to miss out." She purred, shifting back and hovering over his flushed erection.
Katara remembered she actually did have something to tell him but everything outside of this moment felt insignificant, selfish as it may be. She didn't care.
"It is more fun with friends." He teased, smiling at her innocently, though she could feel him tremble against her thighs.
"I always want to play with you, Zuko." With that statement she took him in her hand, agni just touching him is fucking amazing, and sank down on him slowly.
Zuko groaned loudly, the sound mixing with Katara's gasps and moans. Once again his head fell back against the pillows and his eyes slammed shut as he was slowly buried to the hilt.
She settled against him, adjusting to his size and indulging in the feeling of him inside her, filling every inch of space within her and stretching her walls around him.
"Oh…spirits… I might never get used to this." Katara breathed, shifting her weight and reveling in how the simple movement caused him to bump delicious spots in her core.
Zuko hummed quietly in response, his hands coming to rest on her hips.
She looked down at him, taking in how raw and beautiful he looked beneath her. His hair an absolute mess, his expression was one of complete bliss. His bare chest heaving wildly, his toned stomach only becoming more inviting as she trailed her eyes down to where he disappeared under her.
"Fucking gorgeous." She sighed, leaning forward to place kisses wherever she could reach before suddenly being met by his own eager lips.
Katara began to rock against him, nipping and sucking at his bottom lip, tongues intertwining, her hand disappearing into his thick mane.
They moaned softly into eachothers mouths as she moved and Zuko raised his hips to meet her movements with powerful thrusts.
When she craved more control, Katara finally pulled back from him so she could bounce on his cock with more aggression.
Raising herself up and dropping back down, drawing out mutilated and brain weakening sounds from him.
Zuko thrust up harder into her, faster, more desperate and disconnected from his human side.
Was there another reason she came here? Another reason besides riding him and draining him of his contribution to nature.
"Agni, Zuko I caught you at the perfect time." Katara quipped between her own vocalized pleasure.
"Mhmmm" Zuko agreed, pressing harder on her hips at each drop and returning to his laid back position.
"I want you to breed me Zuko, won't let one drop go to waste." She moaned, watching him closely.
Zuko nodded, much to Katara's surprise.
She wasn't sure if he was simply too far gone to care about what she was saying but she was going to run with it regardless.
"Impregnate me with that beautiful DNA of yours." He nodded again.
They were both panting, sweat beading on their skin, nothing but the sounds of unbridled passion around them, between them.
"Spirits, your cock is so…fucking…big." Katara groaned, grinding into him between their movements.
Zuko moaned loudly, the cords in his neck tensing, his fingernails digging into the flesh of her hips.
Katara bit at her bottom lip, drinking in the sight of him responding to her movements and her words.
"All mine." She breathed.
"All yours." He agreed through gritted teeth.
She had felt the mounting heat in her lower stomach for a while, her pussy throbbing around him, but chose to hold out for him. She knew how much he loved having her contract around him while he shot into her.
It was getting harder to keep herself from falling apart as Zuko pounded up into her and panted her name as well as fumbled praises and curses.
She could tell he was close, his back arching off the bed, his movements stuttering, and his breaths turning into quick, short gasps.
"Come on daddy, give me what I want." She commanded, tilting her hips so she could roll up and down his shaft while grinding into him.
"Fuck..fuck..gonna…" His voice husky and strained, he pushed his heels into the bed and slammed up into her as hard as he could while she met his hips and bore down on his cock.
A long raspy moan tumbled from Zuko's lips as he held himself still inside her. His hips jerking, body trembling, and his cock pulsing rhythmically while he filled her completely.
Katara felt herself unravel on top of him as shuddering waves of orgasmic ecstasy racked her body, milking him thoroughly and drawing out uncontrolled grunts and moans from both of them.
"Good boy. Fill me with your cum." Katara trembled violently with him as their climaxes transitioned into sporadic jolts of aftermath bliss. A guttural noise sounded from Zuko in response to her praise, something she was learning he liked..alot.
Even in her climactic state, Katara was surprised. She never knew this side of her existed. Yet Zuko appeared to pull out a whole different Katara in general. She never wanted anyone so badly, never wanted to talk like that. Never wanted, so desperately to touch, taste, bite, feel, and submit to yet dominate completely.
"Fuck Katara." Zuko breathed, dropping his weight back to the bed, taking her with him. She squeaked in shock as she dropped back down and impaled herself on his still rigid and throbbing cock.
Zuko shot forward at the impact and found himself wrapping his arms around her, burying his face in her chest.
He held her for a moment, and she felt that new found pang of overwhelming adoration as she stroked his hair. That was becoming something she loved and would look forward to everytime, running her hands through his hair and holding him close to her.
Suddenly Katara let out a surprised shriek, giggling hysterically as he bit at her still sweaty skin, and tickled at her ribs, all the while making snarling noises.
"What are you-AH! HAHA!- DOING?!" She all but cackled as she tumbled off of him, his length slipping from her and bringing a steady flow of his cum with it.
"Zu-hu-hu-kooo!!" She writhed under him and his merciless attack, barely catching the wicked grin on his face between thrashes.
"ST-HAW-AWP!!" She begged, scream laughing and attempting to shove him away.
Zuko finally quit tickling her and sat back on his heels, chuckling at Katara, who had curled into a ball with tears in her eyes, still giggling.
"Whyyy." She whined, turning her face to meet his gleeful, burning gaze. Her sides hurt as she tried to recover from the assault.
She would have to memorize every time she ever saw that man smile so brightly. It wasn't easily attained but it was stunning every time.
He simply shrugged, placed a breathless kiss to her hip and slid off the bed.
"Where are you going?" Katara pouted, sitting up quickly.
Zuko flashed her a cheeky grin, sauntering across the room toward his private bathroom.
She loved how confidently he walked. He was completely naked, hair pushed back in an unruly mess, as he disappeared into the bathroom.
Firelight flickered within the dark room and danced along the walls outside the door, beckoning at Katara to follow.
Oh look, here I go, what a surprise. She thought excitedly as she jumped off the bed and hurried to the bathroom, ignoring the soreness and dripping between her legs.

Chapter Text
Katara was still in awe over the presence of showers in the palace.
She had never seen one before and the ingeniousness of them was astounding. Even with her own specialty in the ways of water, she wasn't entirely sure how it worked. But at the time she wasn't about to start studying the mechanics of it.
Not while Zuko was stepping under the warm spray, his hair matted to his skin, which was glistening with the growing moisture.
Oh Tui and La look at him. Could he be any more perfect?
Katara stole herself a quick moment to stare at him. Her element cascading down on him and imprinting the most breathtaking image into her memories. That right there would now occupy the part in her mind where she would go to find peace and serenity.
"Are you coming in?" His voice broke through, bright, golden eyes catching her roaming gaze.
For some reason Katara couldn't quite put her finger on, she blushed deeply. She oddly felt as though this was more intimate than anything they had done thus far.
Nonetheless she stepped under the water with him.
"Oh." She breathed. She had never felt this good, this connected with life before.
Warm water raining down on them, her cool skin sighing in response, muscles relaxing and an affectionate desire filling her entire being.
"Zuko." She nearly whispered, bringing a hand to his face, cupping his scarred cheek.
He smiled softly, water dripping from his bangs into his eyes.
Katara hummed contentedly and smoothed his bangs off his forehead, slicking his hair back.
"I'm so happy you're here Katara." Zuko said, resting his face against her hand.
"Me too baby." Katara said quietly, losing herself in his amber eyes. Eventually her gaze drifted to the upward quirk at the corner of his lips. She wanted to taste that smile under the downpour.
And so she did. Katara took a step into him, her body pressing flush with his. When their lips met once again, the sparks had yet to calm since that first night.
They were still new to whatever this was but Katara had never felt such chemistry and electricity with Aang. She had expected her lustful desires to be satiated and done with after their first time. Yet something completely unexpected was happening instead and it made her yearn for more, like she was drowning and he was oxygen.
The heat between them intensified. Warm water trickled through any rare gaps between them and ran in streams down their faces, and exposed skin.
This kiss felt different. The others were intense, eager, hungry. This was slow, passionate. An eternity of moving their mouths in unison, a graceful, poetic dance saturated in her element and their burning desire for each other.
It was like they had all the time in the world and the world belonged to only them. His hands felt the damp skin of her stomach, her waist, her chest, her back, before getting lost in the wet tangles of her hair.
Her hands glided along his body, touching every part of him she could reach. Even when her palm smoothly ran up his hardened length, gripping gently before moving on, it had a different feeling behind it.
They weren't seeking gratification, nor were they trying to stimulate the other with climactic intent.
They were appreciating each other as a whole. Eyes remaining closed, lips, tongues and teeth still locked in a beautiful, blurry waltz. Humming into eachothers mouths only to swallow the return.
Agni, when I die, please let it be like this. You could strike me down right now and I would go happily just as long as this was my last waking moment.
Katara wanted nothing more than to drown in Zuko's kiss and embrace. And so she did.
She broke their kiss and welcomed the continued streams of water that ran down her face, trickling into her mouth as she transferred her affections to his scar, his jaw and then his neck.
Zuko sighed as she placed chaste kisses to his warm skin before latching onto him and sucking lightly, moving his matted hair off his neck with her fingers.
She nipped slowly and gently, grazing her teeth across his pale flesh. Running her tongue along his skin before closing her lips onto his pulse point in open mouthed kisses that made them both tingle.
OK so maybe there was a growing intent. Katara couldn't stop even if she wanted to. And she knew there was very little in this world that would make her want to stop.
"You are wonderful." He mewled, his hands running down her back, tilting his head back so she could spread her ministrations wherever she pleased.
Katara pulled back only slightly, taking in the sight of the water running down his throat.
"Zuko." She said quietly, leaning back completely now.
"Hmm?"
She hesitated, hoping she would never manage to mess this up. Wishing she could hold onto him tightly and never let go.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" She chewed on her bottom lip nervously.
When he looked down into her eyes with that charming, boyish smile, she thought she might enter the spirit world.
"Of course! Please!" They grinned at each other in unbridled joy before crashing together again in a frenzy of wandering mouths and hands.
Katara wanted, more than anything else, to indulge in him completely. To worship every inch of him and teach him just how strongly she was enamored with him.
Their soul kisses broke once again as she took her time, lowering her attention. Taking some time for each part of him.
His neck would be bruised well after all of this, likely drawing an array of questions at tomorrow's meeting.
Oh ya!! Shit!
Katara decided to bank that thought for later. Now wasn't the moment to inform him of the pain in the ass meeting early the next day.
She moved to nip at his collarbone, her knees bending as she kissed and ran her hands along his strong, broad chest.
"Where are you going?" Zuko asked with a sly chuckle, watching her kneel in front of him and kiss, bite, lick and suck at his toned abdomen.
She took one of his hands and brought his thumb to her lips, looking up at him innocently through thick, dark lashes.
"You better not-" He bit back a growl as she slid his thumb into her mouth and sucked, humming happily as she slipped it in and out, never breaking eye contact.
I'm gonna eat you alive
The animalistic side of her was to the forefront of her mind with full force. Katara pulled him from her mouth and dropped her gaze and hands.
She finally came to his manhood, which stood at full attention just for her.
Katara had only done this once before at the spontaneous request of Aang.
He was never an overtly sexual person so it had caught her off guard. She hated it of course, but with Zuko, she couldn't get the thought and urge out of her mind.
She looked up at him again. Meeting his fiery half lidded gaze gave her a sense of comfort and further wanting to make him feel as good as he did to her, just with those eyes alone.
So she wasted no more time taking him into her mouth slowly, inch by inch.
Oh this isn't going to be easy. She thought, regarding his size and her very limited experience.
But the sound that resonated from Zuko spurred her on regardless of her concerns.
She pushed further and swallowed his entire length, gagging slightly but maintaining her position.
She brought her hands to his thighs and gripped him hard as if to steady herself.
"It's ok." Zuko said softly, stroking her hair.
"It's ok sweetheart, don't push yourself. You're amazing no matter what you do." His voice was so full of respect and tenderness she could cry right there with his cock halfway down her throat.
She nodded slightly in acknowledgement, then finally moved back before sliding back down his shaft. She worked carefully, adjusting to the feel of him in her mouth.
He tasted salty and sweet at the same time.
His natural scent was an intoxicating mix of pheromones that brought her mind back to the warm tingle from that bottle of wine.
Something primal and drunken took her over as she lifted herself up and pressed herself into him, humming as she swallowed him again and again with a lustful urgency.
Her hands wrapped around his waist, nails digging into the flesh of his lower back as she applied enough pressure to guide him further down her throat.
The water from the shower ran down his abdomen and mingled with her saliva that coated him. Rain streaming down her face and connecting them in her element.
She bobbed her head up and down, sucking like her life depended on it, and swirling her tongue around the tip on every upstroke.
She stopped here and there to run her tongue up his shaft and tease him, her eyes flashing up to meet his. Sometimes she missed them as he threw his head back.
His fingers had laced through her hair and gripped tight. She could feel him holding back from pushing her down further and thrusting into her mouth.
Another time she would let him, welcome it, encourage it. But she was still gagging randomly just doing what she was doing and she didn't want to push it by submitting control.
Zuko made a strangled throaty sound when she moved a hand to cup his balls, squeezing and massaging, she took a breath, and took his entire length into her mouth again in one swift motion.
She worked fast and worked hard, encouraged by every distorted expression of pleasure the raspy voice above her had to offer.
"F-fuck…Katara…I'm.. " He warned between sharp gasps. Katara had learned quickly that he always gasped right before he hit his climax. It was the most arousing thing in the world.
She hummed in response and braved further. Pressing her face into the sopping dark patch of hair at the base and lapping at his balls as every inch of his cock slid down her throat.
It was worth the gagging, every bit of it.
Zuko moaned so loudly she thought the entire palace might hear it. Losing control, he bucked his hips unconsciously and pressed her down on him more, even though she didn't think it was possible.
"Oh FUCK! I'm gonna cum…Katara…gonna-" Katara pulled back, fighting his strong hold on her, and bobbed her head as fast as she could, all the way down to lick at his balls, back up to swirl her tongue, devouring him.
And then it was both chaotic and calm at the same time.
He stilled completely, buried to the hilt. His cock pulsed on her tongue with every spurt of cum he shot down her throat. His knees buckled and he practically sobbed as he filled her mouth.
Katara swallowed the first few pumps but retained the rest. Reveling in the taste of it as she wrapped her tongue around his contracting cock, sending shivers through his entire body.
When he finally relaxed, Katara sucked lightly on him still and watched his face closely as he jumped at the over stimulation.
That was the hottest fucking thing ever. We are definitely doing that again! Katara's inner monologue groaned.
She pulled back off his cock with a pop and kept her swollen lips sealed as she stood to meet his drunken stare.
"Spirits…that was-" Katara cut him off with a wicked smile and stuck her painted tongue out, his cum pooling and dripping.
He looked pained, staring at her display like it was too good to be true.
"Damn Katara, are you trying to kill me?" He groaned.
Kill you with carnal kindness, maybe.
She pulled her tongue back into her mouth and swallowed, tugging her bottom lip between her teeth after and giving him an innocent smile.
"You taste fucking amazing." She whispered.
Zuko let out a shaky breath.
"What about not letting any go to waste?" He questioned.
Katara mulled over his question thoughtfully.
"That wasn't a waste. I just wanted to taste the batter." She batted her eyelashes and trailed her finger up and down the path of dark hair under his navel.
"Thats hot as fuck." He said quietly.
Katara actually wasn't sure, but she thought it was clever at least.
Zuko pulled her in for a hug, squeezing her almost too hard, his chin resting on the top of her head. She returned his affection and they stayed in their embrace for a significantly drawn out portion of time.
But eventually they had to let go, and take to washing each other in comfortable and intimate silence.

Chapter Text
"I'm worried that someone will notice I'm here. As far as everyone thinks, I'm still with Aang." Katara pulled one of Zuko's maroon shirts on. It was entirely too long on her, which made it perfect.
Zuko sat cross legged on the bed, watching Katara get settled for the night. She located his hair brush on a narrow dresser near the bathroom. She thumbed the gold swirls against the cool black of the handle.
"I'm sure Noone will disturb us…or Aang, for the rest of the evening. And I rise with the sun. I will wake you up." He paused, Katara looked over at him expectantly while she ran the brush through her long, dried hair.
"Any way you'd like." He smirked, a gleam to his golden eyes.
Katara finished up with her hair and set the brush down before bounding over and hopping onto the bed.
"Promise?" She said softly, eyeing his sleeping clothes. He looked very cute but Katara still couldn't help finding him alluring in the simple undershirt and shorts.
His smirk grew bigger in response.
"Well if you're so eager to have a baby, shouldn't we be taking advantage of every chance we have?" He said, catching her off guard.
Katara studied him carefully, the promiscuity in his voice made her consider her own neglected thoughts.
"I'm curious." She started. Running her fingers along his calf muscle, absentmindedly.
He cocked an eyebrow at her, the smirk remaining.
"How are you OK with this? I mean I didn't expect you to actually…be on board with that whole idea." She questioned.
Zuko nodded, taking in her words and contemplating his own response.
"You didn't give me much of a choice the first night." He teased.
"I know…I'm sorry, I just…Aang wasn't…meeting my needs. And that was becoming the only goal in my head when we would…" She gestured vaguely in reference.
"I didn't really want that with him. But I've had my eye on you for a long time now so the idea of you…" She blushed deeply as she trailed off and shied away from his gaze.
"Wait…how long have you been…." Zuko questioned with peaked interest.
Katara didn't say anything for a moment. She chewed at her bottom lip in avoidance, but eventually accepted the inevitable.
"The temple." She admitted.
Zuko's eyes went wide.
"The temple?!"
She looked back to him and her blush grew more.
"Shut up." She whined.
"That's very interesting. But I'll leave it alone…for now." That cocky smirk was going to earn him a scrap.
"I guess I'm just not very conventional." He explained.
"All my life it's been rules, and what's proper, and having everything predetermined for me. If you were some random girl I'd be rejecting the idea completely. But…I've had my eyes on you too Katara. And I don't intend for this to be some fun little adventure and then it's done." Katara cocked her head, her heart beating faster.
"If a baby is what you want, a baby is what you'll get. If you want one with me, I'll give you that. Or at least try to anyway. Because if you want me in any way Katara, you've got me. If things go my way… I'll be marrying you, and making every day of your life as perfect as you. Why wouldn't I want to do the same for your…our…child." He said it all with such straight forward confidence.
Katara was at a loss for words. Every emotion she'd been feeling hit her at an alarming rate and she almost burst into tears in front of him.
She simply stared at him in awe. However, as matter of fact as he was saying all of that to her, she could see him start to panic in her silence.
"Zuko…" She placed her hand on his ankle and gripped him, staring into his, now, worry filled eyes.
"I'm not saying you don't have a choice. I know that all sounds so fast, I'm sorry, Im not trying to scare you. I just…" He groaned and started rubbing the back of his neck.
"You're so cute." Words she could find easily as she looked at him with pure adoration.
He gave her an anxious smile and continued rubbing his neck.
"Zuko, I have never felt this way with anyone before. All of it. It's only been 24 hours and it feels like it's been a month. I was only with Aang because I was stupid. I thought I was supposed to. But every time i saw you, or heard your voice, it made me ache in a way I didn't understand." Zuko reached forward tentatively and stroked her hand with his fingers.
"And now…I just feel like I found what I've been looking for. What I've been trying so hard to make happen with Aang. And I feel so stupid for thinking I could make that happen. I feel stupid for letting the last several months go to waste when I could have had what I really wanted all this time." She took his hand in hers and brought it to her chest, placing it over her rapidly beating heart.
"You make my heart race, it's almost painful how hard it pounds just from being around you." Katara paused and lifted his hand from her chest to her lips, kissing him gently.
Zuko looked like he was blissfully lost in her words and might never come back.
"And spirits…I can't get enough of you. You're so handsome." A flicker of something flashed across Zuko's face, his eyes darting to the bed.
Katara was quick to bring him back, purposefully cupping his left cheek and stroking her thumb along the pink marred flesh under his eye.
The doubt and shame that took over his face was heartbreaking.
"I mean it." She said sternly.
"You are the most attractive man I have ever met. You're absolutely stunning, Zuko. I know you don't believe me but I just want to stare at you constantly. You're unbelievably sexy, and i would be eternally happy living the rest of my life falling into bed with only you." Kataras smile turned sly.
"Or shower..Or anywhere else." She added.
Zuko smiled back at her, finally meeting her gaze again.
"Agni, Katara, I don't deserve this." He said quietly.
"Why do you think that?" She asked, stroking his cheek before brushing his hair back and exposing the disrupted, jagged hairline.
"I mean…"
"You've been through so much pain and abuse Zuko. You were manipulated, mistreated, and by your own father and sister. He burned your face Zuko!" Katara tried to hide her anger, taking a breath.
"And your mother. I know what that's like. And it made me turn into something I'm not, countless times. You are not that person anymore. And you weren't before either. You're a good person Zuko." She let his hand drop and moved her own to the other side of his face, holding him in place so she could plant a kiss on his forehead.
"You have proven that." She finished, kissing the tip of his nose and then pulling back and letting go of him.
He looked at her with innocent eyes, a near sheepish smile.
They simply looked at eachother wordlessly while Zuko thought over everything she had said.
"I really want to say it." He almost whispered.
Katara's chest tightened in understanding. They were moving so fast they were tumbling down a hill at high-speed. And yet it felt so right that it felt disturbingly wrong it took so long.
"But it's so…so soon. But it feels like I've wanted to say it for a very long time."
Images flashed in her mind of Zuko joining them at the western Air temple. Poorly executing jokes, showing up with her brother and father safe and sound from the prison escape.
How he took her on a journey to face her mother's murderer, watching respectfully and unjudging as she made her decision on the matter.
His body twitching as blue lightning, that was meant for her, ripped through him and burned him from the inside out. The healing sessions, his coronation, meetings where he dressed so proper in his firelord clothing, his hair up in a top knot with the crown piece adorned.
How disheveled he looked in the morning or after they've been together. Him playing with Tom Tom.
His hair falling in her face as he panted into her neck, the weight of him on top of her, the feeling of him inside her. The sounds and faces he made during climax, the water running down his alabaster skin.
And how he was looking at her right now, the words he had said to her before, forever leaving a mark on her.
"I love you Zuko." She purred affectionately.
His eyes lit up in shock. Saying nothing immediately, he leaned forward and kissed her deeply.
This is my destiny. This is the path I'm meant to walk. I have loved you for so very long.
Zuko broke the kiss, breathing heavily and resting his forehead against hers.
"I love you, Katara"

Chapter Text
It felt surreal climbing into bed and under the blanket next to Zuko.
His body heat warmed her instantly as she snuggled into his side, resting her head on his chest.
Zuko wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly, resting his face on the top of her head.
Katara knew nothing but peace and euphoria, listening to the powerful thumping of Zuko's heart beat as she stroked his bare abdomen absentmindedly.
"Zuko." She said quietly.
"Mhm?"
Katara sighed at the sound reverberating in his chest.
"I remembered I had something to tell you." She traced the muscles of his stomach. Trying not to lower her hand and run her fingers along the strong V that disappeared under his waistband, all too aware of her own weaknesses.
"What's that?" He asked softly.
Katara reflected in Iroh's words she was so quick to forget earlier. She felt guilty only just now telling him when he was half asleep.
"Your uncle told us that you have a meeting tomorrow morning." She said apologetically.
There was silence for a moment in the dim light of the single candle that remained lit on his bedside table. She felt his chest rise up as he let out a miserable sigh.
"I'm so sick of meetings." He grumbled. Katara relaxed a bit, noting that if he was frustrated with her procrastination it wasn't showing through.
"I know, baby." She whispered, running her open hand up his stomach and resting on his chest where her thumb would stroke his skin in a soothing manner.
Katara knew he'd be up bright and early regardless but an early meeting would drain him mentally for the rest of the day. He would likely appreciate a nice bath and a backrub.
Zuko pressed his lips to the top of her head in a prolonged kiss as he stroked her arm lovingly. One lazy hand came up and he flicked it in the general direction of the candle, extinguishing the flame and casting them in peaceful darkness.
And it wasn't until his lips relaxed against her and his fingers went limp that she realized he had fallen asleep
Katara lay there for a while, leg slung over his thigh, arm wrapped around his rib cage, rubbing her thumb across his warm skin. Soaking in the tranquility of this wonderful moment, the gentle rise and fall of his chest and nothing but the sounds of his heart beating and his sedated breathing that carried her into a serene slumber.
….
Katara wasn't sure what point in the night he had altered their sleeping positions but when she awoke she was still on her side but Zuko had turned away from her.
She was stuck to him like a backpack, one hand resting on his side, her other arm was slid under his head and her one leg was nestled between his. Her body flush with his and her face buried in his thick hair at the nape of his neck.
Katara cracked an eye open to see the reddish orange glow of the rising sun peaking over the horizon and through the window.
Zuko appeared to be fast asleep, mumbling incoherently, his breathing slow and deep.
She smiled to herself, listening to him sigh and talk in his sleep, and placed a kiss to the back of his neck and then his shoulder.
What a beautiful dork, She thought.
His skin was like fire in the best way. Maybe if they had thicker blankets on them she'd be pulling away for the heat, but like this, it was welcomed.
Her laxed hand wandered over the plains of his stomach, appreciating him in this vulnerable and intimate state.
Her fingers danced lazily over taught muscles, tracing his navel and tracking down the line of short dark hair. Reaching his waistband she hesitated, deciding whether or not to act on her half asleep impulses.
He said he's all yours. Her subconscious remarked in her head.
So she slipped her fingers beneath his waistband, stroking the skin beneath it. Traveling lower and reveling in the twitch of his sensitive areas, she closed in on her main objective.
Much to her surprise, Kataras touch met ridgid flesh, risen from the soft dark hair beneath her palm. Hesitating again, only for a moment, she finally ran her fingers up the hardened length of him.
Dipping her head and humming quietly in between his shoulder blades, she peppered his back with kisses and gentle love bites.
There was something lazy and intoxicating about her placid indulgence. Her touches, a small dance of fingertips over her lover's body as she absorbed his everything into her own somnolent being.
Katara let the minutes tick by as she appreciated the warm skin and unconscious muscles beneath her touch and her lips. The soft breathing, the scent of him enveloping her, and the feel of his stiff masculinity against her fingers.
Taking him in her hand she began stroking him smoothly, soliciting a twitch and a sleepy "hmm" from him.
"Well good morning." His voice broke the quiet, even raspier than normal with sleep.
"Good morning handsome." She purred, continuing her affections, earning her a shuddering breath and a low groan.
"You really do rise with the sun don't you?" She teased playfully, giving him a light squeeze.
Zuko carefully turned onto his back, allowing Katara to shift herself.
That boyish smile plastered on his face with a hint of embarrassment made her weak, as she continued her movements.
And then he turned and looked at her, those almost unnaturally golden eyes meeting her adoring gaze.
Spirits, how is he so perfect?
"Wow you're so beautiful in the morning." He murmured, pleasure flickering across his face as her leisurely pace became more determined.
Katara's heartbeat quickened, an inescapable smile spreading as she brought her lips to his in a slow yet assured kiss.
Their mouths moving together in a carefree, relaxed waltz. Katara pulled her hand back briefly as Zuko gently tugged his waistband down, his erection springing free only for a second before Katara had it in her grasp once again.
Her pace picked back up almost instantly, pumping his cock with fervor.
"Katara." Zuko groaned between intensifying kisses.
Katara hummed against his mouth, nipping at his bottom lip before indulging in the taste of him over and over again.
When he started panting and those short gasps tumbled from his lips, ghosting along hers, she gave him a couple rhythmic squeezes with each quickening stroke.
A sly and appreciative smile spread across Katara's face as Zuko broke their kiss and dropped his head back. His hips raised off the mattress as she worked him.
"Katara." This warning was more of a growl that was followed by a sharp grunt as jets of hot cum shot across his abdomen.
A shaky moan escaping him as Katara slowed her movements, her hand getting coated in his sticky climax. A hungry sound of satisfaction slipped from Katara.
She didn't expect to enjoy the scene next to her as much as she did. The sudden dampness between her legs and her ragged breathing making her aware of her debilitating arousal, Katara let go of him and brought her slick fingers to her mouth.
Zuko recovered enough to look up just in time to see Katara take her cum soaked fingers into her mouth.
"Agni Katara." He breathed heavily, watching her suck her fingers clean.
"Oh how do you taste so fucking good." She moaned, sliding her digits from her lips.
Is it too much to clean off his stomach for him as well?
Zuko's mouth fell open as Katara leaned down and lapped at the mess that had splattered up his toned body.
Salty and sweet meeting her tongue, she marveled at the difference in her responses to Zuko versus Aang.
With Aang it felt oddly unpleasant, she'd turn away at the last minute and let him take over. She wanted to cover her ears when he'd vocalize his peak and would simply toss him one of his dirty shirts to clean off with. Yet with Zuko she was like a dog, licking his stomach clean, having to refrain from moving lower and indulging in him obsessively.
When Zuko made those sounds she felt a delicious fluttering in her lower belly, an ache in her entirety as she dreamed of swallowing those sounds as a main source of sustenance.
His body was her moon and tides, his voice like the sound of waves crashing against rocks and his eyes like the sun rising over the tranquil sea. And she just wanted to drown in him over and over again.
When she was finally satisfied with her cleaning job, Katara moved to place kisses on his chest and up the side of his neck.
She climbed up his body, sucking lightly here and there, tugging gently on an earlobe and nuzzling into the soft hair that tickled her face. His neck was hot and inviting and it took every ounce of strength to pull away from him.
"We should get up." She said with a disheartened sigh.
Zuko pouted slightly at her.
"Come on, Firelord Zuko." She teased, mimicking a parent scolding a petulant child. She tapped a finger on his nose, following it with a quick peck of her lips.
Moving off of him and leaving the bed was almost preternatural, her body scolding her for such a defiant act against nature.
He won't be in that meeting forever, I can meet him here after, naked and eager. He'll come in and he'll take me just like I need. That wonderful cock filling me-
"Katara?" His voice cut through her gallivanting thoughts.
She turned to look at him as she pulled on her clothing.
He was now standing next to the bed, slipping his shorts off.
Her eyes roamed his completely naked body, the sunrise cascading over his ivory skin and illuminating the brunette highlights in his hair.
"Can you pass me my clothes please. They're hung up in the closet." He gestured toward the closet that stood to the left of her.
Katara happily obliged, grabbing him his firelord robes and stripping them from their velvet hanger.
When she placed the clothing on the bed in front of him he had nearly finished putting on his sarashi loin cloth.
"Ugh." She couldn't help the groan, her fingertips grazing his hip and caressing his inner waist. Her touch disobeying her inner restraint, featherlight touches finding a prominent sex line.
"Can I help you?" Zuko quipped with a chuckle, watching her lose herself in his physique.
Katara's train of thought was derailing rapidly, her bottom lip caught between her teeth, she peered up at him innocently.
"Let's put some clothes on you before I drag you back to bed."
"Still tired?" He started with a teasing smirk, moving closer to her, closing the gap between them.
His body nearly pressed into hers, his breath hot on her neck as he brought his lips to her ear.
"Or are you not done playing?" He purred, his voice husky and low, devious. Strong fingers suddenly between her legs, stroking long, slow strips up and down her core through painfully wet clothing. His other hand snaked up to grip the back of her neck.
"Oh." Katara's eyes fluttered closed, her lips parting as she melted into his touch.
"Such a bad girl." He hummed, nipping at her earlobe before pulling away from her completely.
Katara nearly fell forward at his sudden absence, eyes shooting open and staring at him with disbelief.
Oh that's just mean.
The smirk on his face was simply insidious as he began pulling his pants on.
"Wh…I…" Katara sputtered, her head swimming with desire and shock, a throbbing between her thighs.
Zuko merely smiled innocently at her, tugging his shirt over his head and covering his lean, toned torso.
Katara stood there dumbfounded. Once again she reflected on her past experience and the vast differences in her current ones.
How had he unraveled her like this, so easily, and then casually walked away to carry out his tasks. Aang wouldn't have been so bold and seductive at all let alone tease her so mercilessly like that.
And if he had she wouldn't have whimpered softly as she was now, shuffling her feet and rubbing her thighs together in an attempt to alleviate the desperate ache.
Katara snapped out of her trance as Zuko picked up his outer robe.
"Here." She said softly, the buzzing in her mind obnoxiously loud and the sexual frustration even more so. Still she helped him into his robe, smoothing out any wrinkles and tying the gold sash around his waist.
All the while he stared down at her with amused fondness.
And she couldn't stifle the matching smile as she kept her attention focused on her work.
Finally she raised her eyes to meet his and brought her hand up to caress the marred skin on his left cheek.
"You're a terrible man, Firelord Zuko." She said with such sincerity in this hushed moment of erotically charged tension and romance that it caused Zuko to chortle.
"And youre an amazing woman, Katara." He smiled down at her.
Idiot, She thought, her smile turning into a grin.
Their leering was briefly interupted as Katara pulled his shoulder piece onto him, grimacing at the weight of it. The robes themselves felt like they weighed a ton. Once again she made a mental note to give her man a nice warm bath and a massage when he finally retired for the day.
"Alright sit on the bed." She instructed, moving to fetch his hair tie, brush, and crown that all sat discarded on his dresser.
"Yes ma'am." He bowed at her before taking a seat on the bed obediently.
She was cautious about the task at hand, ensuring a kempt and pristine job. Dragging his brush through his unruly shock of hair.
Standing over him, she dropped the brush onto the bed. She ran her fingers through his hair, pulling it up and combing any stray hairs into what she had collected in her other hand.
She folded and tied the cluster into a knot before taking the sharp gold crown and sliding it into the hair carefully.
"There." She said confidently, placing her fingers under his chin and tilting his face up so she could admire him.
"So handsome." She said with reverence.
Before he had to leave she placed a delicate kiss to his forehead and pulled him up by his hands.
His expression was one of loving appreciation. He kissed her, softly at first before escalating it into something needy and promising. He then took a step back and gave her another warm smile.
"You should spend the day with the group." He said, very out of the blue and catching Katara off guard.
"As much as I'd like to show you off, I'm sure it wouldn't be wise to let people get suspicious. Go wake Aang up and get something to eat" His directions felt unnatural but they were mandatory. Katara nodded with a small huff.
"I will see you tonight?" She asked, hopeful.
"Of course, sweetheart." He answered, tenderly stroking her cheek.
"We have unfinished business, remember?" A wry smile formed on his face as he turned to leave.
"I love you." Her voice came out as a near whisper.
"I love you too, my beautiful girl." He returned, looking at her fondly before opening the door and disappearing through it.
Katara let out an undecided sigh. Wishing she could walk him to his meeting, let everyone see as she kissed him good luck.
Instead she ran his brush through her hair, tied it in the usual fire nation fashion she had been sporting for awhile now, and left his bedroom to go wake her ex boyfriend.

Chapter Text
Katara felt awkward knocking on Aangs door.
There once was a time where she would simply walk in without hesitation. If anyone were to come into the hall and see her, they'd have some questions for sure.
When Noone answered at her gentle raps she brought her knuckles down harder against the wood, slight irritation fueling her knock.
"Agni, I can't really be this bad at knocking on a door" She mumbled to herself.
That seemed to do the trick as, a few seconds after her stronger raps, the door was pulled open and Katara met Aang's sleepy eyes.
"Hey, sorry to wake you." She apologized, shuffling her feet and rubbing the back of her neck.
Aang smiled at her, that look was still there however. A clotting expression of a deep wound trying to mend itself.
"I just woke up before you knocked, it's alright." He replied, the familiar freshly roused tone in his voice.
Katara sighed and continued rubbing her neck.
"I thought maybe you'd like to get some breakfast?"
She winced ever so slightly at the glimmer of near excitement that lightened his expression.
"Uh…sure!" He perked up. He was still in his sleeping clothes. Also fire nation like the rest of them.
"Meet me down there? I just want to get dressed first." His voice was far too chipper all of a sudden.
Katara nodded and gave him as pitiful a smile as she could. He, of course, didn't appear to notice this. He simply smiled wide at her and closed the door as she turned to walk back down the hall.
…..
When Katara came to their usual table in the mess hall, tray of oatmeal and toast in hand, Toph was already there eating by herself.
"Good morning sweetness." The girl said, smiling over her shoulder as Katara approached her from behind.
"Good morning Toph. Where's Sokka and Suki?" Katara inquired, sitting across from the earthbender.
"In their room, being the acting inspiration for me leaving to get breakfast." Toph answered bitterly.
Katara studied the blind girl closely.
"Do you mean you can…" Katara asked, her heart picking up speed.
"Mhm. Sometimes it's kind of hot but not when I'm trying to sleep."
"Ya that's fair." Katara said carefully, eyes still trained on her friend's face. She ignored the disgust that tried to cloud her mind at the mention of her brother's sex life.
Toph took a long sip from her tea.
She hummed softly and tipped the cup away from her mouth, her lips curving upward in a wry smile over the rim.
"I can also detect that wild heartbeat Sweetness." She remarked, slyly.
Fidgeting in her seat, Katara stirred her oatmeal and tried to think of what to say.
"Hey Toph!"
Oh thank the spirits.
Aang plopped down next to Katara with his own tray of oatmeal and toast, smiling widely at the chuckling earthbender.
"Good morning Twinkle toes."
Katara started eating, thankful for Aang's distraction. However her curiosity would be pecking at the back of her mind all day.
There's no way Toph could know who she's been sensing in Zuko's bed. He was a very attractive man with an attractive title. He always seemed to have an abundance of girls drooling over him.
However, Aang's room had become a solo dwelling the last few days, and last night Katara's room was empty. Toph was not picking up any nefarious frequencies in that room, not anymore.
If Toph were to be intrigued, and smart enough, it wouldn't take much to put the pieces together. And Katara knew Toph was a curious and smart little shit disturber. It was only a matter of time before the powerful earthbender caught on.
"What's on the agenda for today?" Toph asked, continuing to sip at her steaming cup.
"I'm not sure. I don't have any meetings today. What do you think, Katara?" Katara looked at Aang, who was munching on his toast and giving her a hopeful look.
"I…Uh…" Katara remembered Zuko's instructions.
She had hoped to once again hide away in her room and wait patiently for Zuko to come find her so she could pamper him properly.
However he was right, regardless of her own personal world of new found love and sex, she had to maintain her usual role in the group. At Least for now.
When they felt comfortable telling everyone she could lock herself in his room for a whole day and enjoy him all she wanted. She could sit on her bed and stare out the window in a dreamy, impatient haze while he was in meetings, and she could relax her nerves when Toph looked at her in that certain way.
"I know you usually spar with Toph after breakfast but I was wondering if I could take this one." Katara finally answered her table mates, who were looking at her expectantly.
"Sure, sounds good to me!" Aang agreed excitedly. Toph merely grumbled behind her cup of tea.
"Well you are a couple, it only makes sense." Toph answered. Katara couldn't detect any sarcasm or skepticism. It was mostly a disheartened, almost irritated tone.
"Well, then I'm going to practice my bending in peace, I'll let you guys have the large courtyard." Toph said, not doing much to mask her disappointment as she stood with her tray.
Katara gave her a sympathetic expression. She was just about done with the confusing mess of feelings and secrets.
Aang was clearly getting too far in his own head at Kataras' invitations to spend time together.
Toph, regardless of whatever knowledge she held about the entire situation, was obviously hiding her own feelings toward Aang.
And Katara simply wanted nothing more than to lie in her bed and let the buzz of her love-drunk mind claim her until Zuko met her to take over.
As Toph departed from them, Katara looked to Aang, who, like her, was finishing his oatmeal and appeared lost in thought.
"I hope you're doing OK." She said, tentatively placing her hand on his forearm.
He let his spoon rest in the mostly empty bowl and met her gaze, letting out a sigh.
"Why are you so interested in spending time with me today Katara?" He questioned, his brow furrowed, otherwise that hopeful expression still on his face.
It was Katara's turn to sigh as she looked back down at her food, which was looking less and less appetizing as it cooled and her attention diverged completely.
"I'm not trying to make this harder for you Aang." She could sense the slump of his shoulders in response, the optimism draining from him almost immediately as he lowered his eyes back to his abandoned meal.
"I don't like this either." Katara knew even before Aaang scoffed that it wasn't the best thing for her to say.
"But even you said we should just keep all of this to ourselves for right now." She continued.
"So this is just for appearance?" Aang asked bitterly.
Katara didn't know what to say at that point. It was all getting too complicated. She looked at him, studying the contempt in his features.
"Yes…but no…Aang, you're still my best friend. We talked about this. I still want to hang out with you. Have meals together randomly. Spar. All of that." She paused briefly, going over the next few words in her head first.
"Maybe right now it's just hard. That's all I mean. It's hard for us to be near each other, spending time together. Keeping up with the appearance that we are still a couple." Aang nodded, the anger fading from his face, his shoulders, that had tensed during the conversation, now relaxing.
"Zuko suggested I spend the day with you." She added. And then it was back just as quickly as it had left. The hurt, the jealousy, the anger, flickering back into his eyes.
"I'm trying really hard to keep my feelings about all of this in control, Katara. And it isn't easy." His voice was becoming aggravated like it had the night they split up.
"I pretend that I'm fine. I pretend I'm happy for you. I pretend that just hearing his name doesn't make me…" He practically seethed and his tattoos, once again, glowed briefly as he clenched his fists on the table and scrunched his eyes closed.
Katara looked around at the dissipating crowd enjoying their breakfast around them. Her own nervousness at Aangs directed rage at her mingled with the cautiousness of his dancing on the edge of the Avatar state right there in the middle of the mess hall of the fire nation palace.
"Aang, please. I understand completely. I'm really sorry. We can't do this here." She rose from the table and began walking away.
"Come on. Let's go to the courtyard." She said quietly, a twinge of concern in her gut at what he might unleash on her while out there.
Chapter 18: Chapter 18
Summary:
Aang loses control of his anger and hurt.
Notes:
I was skeptical about keeping this in as it was hard to find it believable that Aang would ever hurt Katara. But in my mind he's so hurt and Katara has removed herself from the pedestal he put her on, the betrayal and pain is triggering his avatar state and causing him to lash out more aggressively.
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
I don't like your kingdom keys
They once belonged to me
You asked me for a place to sleep
Locked me out and threw a feast
Chapter Text
Katara was sure to keep a few paces ahead of Aang, though the sound of his footsteps behind her confirmed he was indeed following.
Her eyes caught one of Zukos advisories standing outside the stables, talking with one of the hands. The conversation looked like it was business focused.
They entered the court yard and Katara did her best to shake any outside thoughts from her mind. This might in fact be one of the hardest battles of her life, if Aang gave in to the Avatar State.
As reckless and unnerving as the situation unfolding there was, Katara knew he needed it. He needed to physically fight her, get his anger out in a better way than just throwing a vase through the air.
She deserved to take the brunt of his emotions. Maybe if it was a simple breakup, she'd be telling him to get it together and maybe buy him some ice cream.
But Katara had made him aware that she essentially rolled out of his bed and into another's. He wasn't enough man for her. No, she needed his former enemy who he finally thought he could trust, who he had come to think of as a newfound brother. She didn't wait all of 2 minutes before she begged him to stick it to her.
And if only he knew how I love him. How I just might have loved him for months, she thought.
She could never let him know that though of course. As far as he knew now, Katara was simply seeking out comfort in the arms of the closest non related man she knew. Much to the disregard of Aangs feelings.
Katara was just trying to ensure that his anger was outletted on her, because it was only a matter of time before Aang snapped and went after Zuko.
A battle between Aang and Zuko would result in a very large crack in the repairing of the nations after the war. The nations would be rocked again and the dynamic of the group in the fire nation would surely be the subject of a banishment discussion.
The courtyard was empty, open and available for whatever was to come.
Katara crossed to the far side, taking deep breaths as she collected herself.
By the time they faced eachother, eyes meeting across the large courtyard, Aang appeared a bit calmer.
Katara wasn't entirely certain if he had simply collected himself to properly lay into her or if he had overcome his bout of anger and was preparing to have a regular spar.
Katara bowed to him out of respect. Aang did not return the gesture. Katara swallowed thickly as she eyed him carefully, nothing but anticipation occupying the thick silence between them.
Katara hadn't wanted to spar really. She was mentally drained and would have settled for some conversation. But clearly that wasn't an option for her and Aang. At Least this way they could do what needed to be done, the inevitable, without raising suspicion. Not that anyone was in the immediate area to take any notes.
Katara was quick to arm herself, drawing the water from the water skin on her hip and taking a neutral stance.
Aang was a powerful opponent, one not to be messed with if you weren't properly prepared.
And Katara knew her waterbending, although very skilled and potentially very dangerous, was no match for Aangs variety of bending skills.
He immediately went at her with his earth bending. Stomping the ground, raising up a large pillar of rock and sending it at her at top speed.
Katara dove out of the way, summersaulting to the side and blasting a surge of water in his direction with a grunt.
Aang merely shot his hands out and caught the water. A disembodied grasp that held the liquid floating in place infront of him.
Katara watched him from her crouched position, waiting for him to send it back.
Aang only stared at her a moment, as if contemplating his next move. As if he needed to think about it. He could destroy her in under a minute, this wasn't training for him anymore. This was physical venting.
After a solid minute, Aang shaped the water into a long whip and snapped it towards Katara.
Replicating the same thieving move as Aang, Katara took hold of the water whip and pulled back. She let it splash to the ground before collecting it back into her hands as quickly as possible.
Aang awaited her counter attack. Katara pondered the idea of moving closer, potentially freezing him in place.
She dashed forward only to be stopped abruptly by a gust of wind forcing her back and the water dropping from her hands to splash into the ground.
Aang covered the ground between them quickly, his hands outstretched and a funnel of wind connecting him to Katara.
He looked positively riled up. Not in a good way much to Kataras concern.
He was not having fun, this was not two friends having a harmless match. This was exactly what she had expected.
Just as soon as the air blowing her back ceased, rock burst up from the ground and encased her arms, locking her in place.
Aang approached her with a fierce determination and in that moment, for the first time ever, Katara feared the airbender.
Someone who at one point would never hurt her, would throw away his own values to protect her. But she had damaged him in a way that was different from anything g he had ever experienced. She deserved this completely.
When he was finally a foot or so infront of her he stopped. His face red, his eyes fuming, fists clenching at his sides.
"I don't care Katara. I said everything is fine and it's not! So you're just gonna have to deal with that!" Aang shouted, causing Katara to cower into her restraints.
"You told me you loved me!" His voice echoed within the confines of the courtyard.
"You told me you wanted a baby with me! And I tried! How could you do that to me?!" He brought his fists up to curl into his chest in manic desperation.
Katara kept her mouth clamped shut, her eyes diverting to the settling dust from their fight.
"You broke my heart Katara! And then less than an hour later you're in his bed. I bet it didn't even phase you…touching him, saying his name while he…." Aang struggled with the words, huffing as he dropped his hands back down, fingers still curled into his palms.
"I'm sorry Aang-"
"Don't you DARE!!" He yelled so loud she felt the vibrations in her shackles.
"I don't want to hear it Katara! I thought you were better than that! And I'm asked to just be OK with all of this. Play pretend??" His face was so red he looked like he might blow a blood vessel.
"I didn't want to tell people. But I didn't want to go ahead and pretend like we are still together. Like in a couple hours you aren't going to get fucked by someone else." The sharpness of that word coming out of his mouth made Katara recoil even further.
He never swore. Even at his age now he always kept a gentleman's tongue for the most part. Hearing him say such crass things was like an incredibly poor note from a tsungi horn.
"Is it worth this Katara?? Is his cock worth what you're doing to me??"
Katara felt tears filling her eyes, threatening to spill over the brim as she refused to make eye contact, flinching at every profanity he surprised her with.
"Well I hope it is. Because after this, I don't want to see you for a long time. Don't talk to me in meetings, don't come and sit with us for meals. You can go ahead and hide away in the firelords chambers like you want to and forget about me. It's been so easy so far right?" He was seething, his voice lowering at the end as he glared daggers at her.
The tears flowed freely then, sobs wracking her body, trembles claiming her as her knees wobbled under her.
"Aang.." She cried, finally looking to him.
Only then did she notice his tattoos flickering. His eyes glowing white and then dimming before lighting up again.
"Aang please I'm sorry." She begged.
Suddenly the rock tore away from her arms and she dropped to the ground.
He glared at her through pulsing eyes and she continued to cower in front of him.
"Aang-" A wave of water splashed over her so hard it stung her skin and filled her lungs.
She fell back at the impact, sputtering and coughing as she crawled backward.
"You want a firebender Katara?" And then the tattoos stopped flickering, solid white all around. His eyes blank and glowing he lifted off the ground.
Katara sucked in a sharp gasp as she watched him levitate and flames come to life in the palms of his hands.
"Aang!" She shouted desperately.
A hand shot out and before the fireball could leave his fingertips Katara gathered all the water around her. Pulling it from her clothes, her skin, her hair. Calling it from the potted plants nearby, and pushed it all at him in a small tsunami that sent him flying backward unexpectedly.
Katara took that opportunity to run. Dashing across the court yard, passed the skidding Avatar and sprinting for the palace.
She heard nothing behind her and didn't bother to look as she bolted into the palace.
Guards readied their swords and Katara could only assure them with a quick wave before darting down the hall and disappearing into her room. Locking the door and backing into her bed.
She breathed heavily, tears streaming down her face as she turned and walked briskly to the bathroom.
A shaky hand turning the knob for the shower on before she sank to the floor and let herself wail into her hands.
Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Summary:
Katara and Aang are put in an unideal situation that saddles Aang with Zuko and Katara the lonely one.
Notes:
I'm not even sure why I did this but it won't be for too long 😂❤
All along it was a fever
A cold sweat, hot headed believer
I threw my hands in the air, said, "Show me something"
He said, "If you dare, come a little closer"
'Round and around and around and around we go
Oh, now tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know
Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay
Chapter Text
Katara wasn't sure how long she sat in the shower for, curled up on the floor beneath its rain.
When she finally came out of her bathroom, a robe tied around her and red puffy eyes from crying, Aang was sitting cross legged on her bed.
She jumped backward upon seeing him and the urge to flee nearly overcame her.
"Please don't run away." He sounded shattered. His eyes trained on the bed in front of him.
Katara couldn't calm her racing heart, rooted to her current spot by the bathroom door, she said nothing.
Aang sighed deeply before speaking.
"I'm sorry Katara." He started.
"I've been very stressed out lately and I let my emotions drive me. I know better than that." He looked ashamed, wounded, not daring to look at Katara for the knowledge of just how frightened she likely looked.
"I thought I would never do something like that to you. I was just so angry and confused and hurt. And you know when I go into the Avatar state…" He trailed off, shoving the heels of both palms into his eyes in frustration.
Still, Katara said nothing, stuck where she was, unmoving.
"When we talked the other day, I led you to believe that we were passed that. That i wasn't going to lose it again. I'm sorry. But I think I got it out of my system." He continued, dropping his hands back down in his lap.
"There's not much sense rehashing things and saying what's already been said. But I really mean it when I say I need a break from…you, katara. I can't hang around you like this while the wound is still so fresh. It messes with my head." He sighed again, looking at her finally. Katara had calmed a bit but she still didn't move any closer.
"And outside of meetings….I don't want to even hear his name. Not for a long time. You have to understand why, Katara." She nodded slowly at the earnest stare he was giving her.
"But as for you, I didn't mean what I said. Please, that's not like me. Nothing I said out there was OK. And of course you are still my friend, and you can be as part of the group as you want. Just maybe give me some space for a little while. Please." He turned his defeated expression back to the bed.
Katara finally braved a few steps towards the bed, walking on tiptoe as if the sound of her footsteps might trigger the avatar state again.
He didn't look at her as she sat cautiously on the edge of the bed in front of him.
"Aang I will give you all the space you need. I'm sorry. We don't have to play pretend, we can just have space from each other, it doesn't have to be a big reveal of our private business." Katara fiddled with the sleeve of her robe, water from her wet hair trickled down the back of her neck and she just wanted to properly dry off and put it up.
Aang nodded in response.
"Thank you Katara. I might take a trip or something, maybe I'll see if Sokka or Toph wants to come with me. Just for a few days." He said thoughtfully.
"I'm not sure you'd be able to drag Sokka away from Suki but I know Toph would love to go with you." Katara wanted to chuckle at her statement but she just didn't have it in her. They had done this already and it proved to be moot. He had attacked her. She hoped silently that he did take a trip for a little while. Clearly she couldn't be around him during this breakup, the knowledge of where she would be every night, one room over, would only make things worse. He needed to go somewhere to cool off for longer than a few hours.
"Toph is a presence though isn't she?" And the small grin that Aang cracked made Katara breath a sigh of relief. She couldn't relax completely, not after all that, but for right now she could untense just a little bit.
A knock at the door broke their conversation and they both looked at eachother with awkward consideration.
This was Kataras bedroom. It could simply be Toph or Suki coming to have some girl time with their friend. It could be Sokka seeking out his sister for whatever, likely annoying, reason. It could also be Zuko, looking to conjugate with Aangs ex girlfriend some more.
Katara realized the meeting should be over now and an odd pit of excitement mixed with dread filled her stomach.
She just wanted to be happy in her new relationship. But she knew she didn't fully deserve that and simply having Zuko at all was more than enough to be grateful for after everything she had done to Aang.
Katara maintained eye contact with Aang as she summoned the mysterious knocker into the room.
Neither of them expected to turn and see Iroh enter.
"Good afternoon young lovebirds." He bowed with his always calming and friendly smile.
Despite a nerve being plucked so hard the twang was nearly audible, they both returned the gesture.
"Master Aang, Master Katara. I hope I am not disturbing you but the Avatar has been requested to join us on a trip to Ba Sing Se for a conference with King Kuei." Katara and Aang looked back at eachother again.
"Oh." Aang replied, searching Kataras face for her own response.
They looked back to Iroh. Katara realized that Zuko would be going on this trip as well, and she could tell by how Aang had looked at her that he was thinking the same thing. This also meant that Aang would be traveling with Zuko. Katara would have entertained the idea of joining them if it didn't only make things more difficult.
She would have to stay with Aang no doubt, and things would be tense, awkward, suspicious. She wouldn't be any happier there than hanging back. She also considered that maybe this was perfect. Aang needed time away from her and despite the anger, jealousy and resentment of being stuck with Zuko, Aang might actually do some healing and maybe even some reconciliation.
Still, her heart began to ache as she accepted the circumstances.
"How long will you be gone for?" Katara asked, looking down at her feet hanging over the bed, attempting to hide her disappointment.
Iroh gave her a sympathetic smile, and Aang looked at her again, a confusing mix of emotions on his face that translated perfectly to Katara.
"We should be back in no later than 1 week." Iroh answered.
A week. Katara couldn't go a week without Zuko. She thought she wanted to envelop herself in him before but now she ached so badly for his presence that it physically hurt. A whole week.
Iroh seemed to notice the disheartened expression that took over Kataras face, he cleared his throat.
"I apologize for…stealing your man away from you for so long Master Katara." Katara met Aang's eyes again, chewing on her bottom lip. The combination of hurt, sympathy and apology in their shared stare said everything they couldn't outloud with Iroh standing there.
As much as Aang was still wounded and angry, as much as he winced just as much as her at the continuous addressing of them as a couple, he still clearly understood that Katara was unhappy.
And the firelord traveling was always a risk. Especially for Zuko. Even in his own nation, Zuko had several people that hated him, loathed his title. The rest of the nations had citizens that not only held malous for the fire nation and anyone occupying its throne, but held insurmountable indignation for the man that brought mayhem, carnage, and merciless brutality to their people and their homes.
"We have arranged some eel hounds to be boarded on one of our navy ships. They're tacking them up right now and my nephew is waiting for us at the docks." Iroh said softly, pulling their attention back to the discussion.
Aang looked at Iroh and nodded, taking a deep breath before responding.
"I didn't realize we were leaving immediately. If it's just a few of us going we can take Appa." Aang suggested. Iroh rubbed his bearded chin thoughtfully for a moment.
"The king wishes to see us the morning after next, so ideally we would have left yesterday. I do think that taking your bison would be much better. Might cut a day's worth of traveling out too. No sense hauling an entire ship just for a small group of people."
"Great. Thank you Iroh." Aang and Iroh bowed to each other once again.
"I will be right there, just let me pack some things. I'm sure someone at the stables will be able to have Appa tacked up for us." Iroh nodded before closing the door and leaving the two in a heavy silence.
Katara finally let out a deep sigh as Aang stood and moved to the door.
"I'm sorry Katara. For everything. Maybe we both need this……..Wish me luck." They stared at each other for a minute, sharing an awkward smile before Aang opened the door. He looked back over his shoulder as he turned to leave.
"And don't worry, I won't do anything to him." Aang promised, purposefully avoiding his name and Katara's eye-line. And then he was gone and Katara was left alone with her discontent.
Chapter 20: Chapter 20
Summary:
Katara is having trouble adjusting to her new romance being put on pause.
Notes:
Day jumps do occur during this week departure because I myself would literally just sit around the entire week waiting and that's makes for boring reading. 😂
Living without you
Living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you
Wanting you near
How much I want to bring you home
Chapter Text
That first night was cold. A word Katara never thought could be used when describing the fire nation. However she tossed and turned, the blankets weren't enough suddenly and the room was far too quiet.
The blue hue of the moonlight streaming through her window and dancing across her bed was a blinding distraction from any possibility of sleep.
It had only been one night in his bed but it was enough to make her feel like she had never slept alone in her own bed before.
It wasn't so much painful as it was irritatingly uncomfortable. She wasn't sad, she just found herself shifting alot as if her body was subconsciously seeking something unavailable to her. It was, and Katara almost hated herself for it.
The bed was far too barren for her liking, her arms lay empty, spread in front of her awkwardly. Had she forgotten how to sleep? This was ridiculous.
So she lay there, on the edge of unconsciousness but never fully falling into the deep, restful sleep her brain demanded. Especially after the day she had endured., her eyes sore, her head pounding from her uncontrollable sobbing in the shower. Her body ached from the terrifying battle with Aang, her mind oozing into her veins like honey from the stress, the emotions, the chaos.
And yet she still didn't leave her bed when the sun came up. She didn't leave it when the rays brought shadows to the ground from the trees. She didn't leave it when it drifted back south into the horizon.
The most she did was lean over and pull her book from the end table next to her bed.
Katara finally fell asleep, book in hand, only 3 pages left, when the blue light of the moon started to blend with fiery orange.
…….
It wasn't until the unrestrained knock on her door the next day, awakening her, that Katara realized she hadn't eaten since the previous morning.
Her eyes snapping open at the loud rapping and her stomach churning angrily, she sat up and groaned before looking out the window.
Judging by the sun's high placement in the sky, Katara concluded that it was around midday. She had slept for approximately 15 hours, give or take. She had been in her bed for a full 24 hours, scrambling for sleep, reading, overstepping. Her head pounded all the more.
"Agni." She groaned again.
"Come in." She called, tossing the covers off of herself and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. She noted that she hadn't even bothered to change into sleepwear.
The door cracked open and, much to Kataras indifference, her brothers face appeared.
"Good…afternoon, princess." He said sarcastically.
"What do you want Sokka?" She mumbled, her head still groggy and her voice showing it.
Sokka took a single step into the room, leaving the door ajar. He eyed his sister thoughtfully.
"You look like hell." He remarked.
"Thanks." She scoffed before standing and moving to locate her ivory hairbrush on her dresser. One of the few things she had traveled with all this time. Her mother had given it to her when she was little. Every morning she ran it through her long brunette hair and every time she thought of her mother, sitting cross legged with Katara pulled into her lap, singing some hauntingly beautiful water tribe song while she ran the brush through Katara's hair gently.
With Sokka there it only made this recanting all the more vivid and jostling as she tugged a tangle out here and there.
"Suki and I thought you might want to join us for lunch." Sokka spoke up, his voice compassionate.
"Sure." Katara did not hesitate to accept the invitation. She was starving and quite honestly couldn't handle another second in her room alone.
"OK, I'll save you a seat." As if anyone else would casually plop down at their table. It was common knowledge that the gaang was a tight knit group that was to be left alone unless necessary or called upon. Simple courtesy.
Sokka peaked back through the door as he was leaving.
"I hear they're serving chicken-pig soup." Katara caught Sokka licking his lips in the mirror.
"Meat!" He declared enthusiastically and then shut the door. Katara shook her head and went about changing her clothes for the day.
……
Lunch went by like every other meal.
Lots of banter and teasing, Sokka and Suki making googly eyes at eachother while Katara did nothing to hold back her mocking.
Toph was quick to join them, commenting on Aang leaving for a whole week and offering Katara sympathy that was definately more needed by Toph herself. At Least in regards to Aang. Katara, on the other hand, wanted so badly to just admit everything and complain about missing Zuko.
But she didn't. She ate the soup, she talked about Tophs future classrooms of brats. They talked about Katara and the United nations, Katara finally having something to occupy her. While Katara had actually found something she wanted to fill her time with almost at a constant, she really couldn't agree more.
Sokka recanted stories from their war days and how neglected of meat he was most of the time. This would elicit a feigned soothing from Suki and an eye roll from the other 2 girls.
Katara, during a moment of quiet amongst the group, had contemplated discussing her book. The only other available contribution to the conversation she could really make that hadn't already been talked about to death.
When she decided she needed to share this with them and started off by saying she hadn't expected it to be so good, she regretted it immediately.
Instantaneously a solid 10 minute debate on the virility, passion and intimate skill of firebenders ensued. Sokka frowning at Suki who admitted she had heard many stories about male firebenders being the best lovers. Toph complaining about not having anyone to bed her let alone a hot blooded man who knew what he was doing.
And then, as Katara had anticipated, Zuko became the focal point of the conversation.
Sokkas face became even more vexed and Katara could feel the heated blush staining her own cheeks.
Suki and Toph pondering Katara's new man's stamina, size, skill, kinks, and more was surreal and provided her with a variety of emotions. Ranging from a secretive smug pride to nervous, awkward, embarrassment.
The oxymoron feeling of wanting to share every detail, flexing her rendezvous with the firelord, while also attempting to hide her face so as not to spill their little secret, was conflicting.
"I figure he's the silent type. I like when a man is vocal but could you see Zuko making noise or talking at all in bed?" Suki laughed at one point, ignoring Sokka who was outright scowling at her.
Oh yes Suki, he makes noise. You should hear how he moans when he's fucking you real good. How he gasps and pants right before he cums. The unbelievably filthy things he says, the swearing and the teasing.
It was Toph that noticed the now uncontrollable smirk on Katara's face. Despite her eyes remaining locked on her spoon gently swirling around in the pitiful little puddle of soup at the bottom of her bowl, Katara had shown a glimmer of her true feelings on the subject.
"What's up Sweetness, you haven't said anything in awhile?" Toph prodded with her signature grin.
"She's blushing." Suki commented with a friendly giggle.
"I don't think Katara is really the type to talk about this stuff, let alone when it's about a good friend. Sorry Katara we'll stop." Suki said with a smile before leaning in to give Sokka a loving kiss to the temple.
"Besides, I think someone over here is getting a little jealous." She teased much to Sokka's clear annoyance.
"I don't need to think about what Zuko's dick looks like or what he's like in bed." He grumbled, grimacing at the idea.
"Alright, fine. It's just talk Sokka, what's the harm in being curious?" Toph inquired with that usual carefree attitude, earning a humph from the watertribe man.
With the bowls and utensils having sat untouched for some time, any remnants of soup long gone cold, the group decided to break from the table finally.
Sokka and Suki mentioned something about getting out of the palace and doing some shopping. Finally a subject Sokka could get behind. And Toph, with a big dramatic stretch and obnoxiously loud yawn, declared she was due for a nap.
Katara stayed behind a few minutes longer after the others departed from the mess hall.
She found an odd, bitter-sweet comfort in allowing herself to sit at the table in her own thoughtful silence. She watched the oblivious people around her eating and chatting amongst themselves while she herself subconsciously listened to her inner monologue.
What do I do with the rest of my day?
Her own voice echoed in her head as Katara traced the edge of the table.
How am I going to kill an entire week. No meetings even, just me at will with several days of free time.
She let out a sigh, her eyes lazily set on two young lovers enjoying their meal together, one hand from each outstretched to grasp the others.
She smiled at the sight and felt a soothing warmth spread through her chest. A calm appreciation for the beauty that life had to offer after the war had finally ended and one could take notice of these trivial little moments. Even if that person wasn't a part of what they were seeing.
Kataras thoughts carried her to Zuko, something she wasn't surprised at. How she couldn't wait to hold him and give him all the kisses she could possibly give him. He deserved all the kisses in the world.
The smile she adorned only spread wider at her affectionate musings. But she considered then that she wasn't going to make the time go by any faster if she simply sat there yearning and daydreaming. She needed to find something to pass the time.
And so she collected herself, stood from the table and left the mess hall, the gold rimmed fountain calling to her.
Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Summary:
Katara and Suki have tea together a discuss their personal lives.
Notes:
This was really wholesome to write, even with the blunt parts of the conversation and Kataras horny brain 😂
Oh, baby, when you're gone
I realize I'm in love
The days go on and on
And the nights just seem so long
Even food don't taste that good
Drink ain't doing what it should
Oh, things just feel so wrong
Baby, when you're gone
Chapter Text
"I figured we could have some girl time, Sokka is out gallivanting the streets with Toph." Suki said with an affectionate eye roll.
"That sounds about right." Katara retorted with a laugh.
Agni knew those two could really be the best of friends when Aang wasn't around. Both troublemakers, both sarcastic and fun yet stern when it was called for.
Katara didn't really trust them going out "gallivanting" but being so directly involved with the firelord gave her an advantage should she have to spring them from the joint.
She and Suki sat together on Kataras bed, a tray resting between them with a kettle, two cups, and a few warm, freshly baked buns set upon it.
"This looks wonderful Suki, I needed this actually." Katara said with a warm smile, pouring tea into her cup and then Suki's.
"I figured. It must be hard having Aang so far away for so long." Suki said, taking her cup and blowing on it to cool it down. Wisps of steam curling along the surface of the hot liquid.
"It's only a week." Katara replied, doing the same.
It wasn't really that long, but it was long enough to make Katara's chest ache and her train of thought constantly derail as it counted down the days, hours, minutes until they returned.
"I know I'd go a little crazy if it were Sokka." Suki shrugged, finally taking a sip and looking appreciatively at her cup.
"Good tea." She remarked, to which Katara nodded as she too let the soothing beverage slip past her lips.
"Well you're over halfway now. Only two more days." Katara lowered her cup, sighing at Suki's words as she set her cup down on the tray and grabbed a bun. It was still warm and soft and wonderfully inviting.
"I'm just not sure what else I can do to pass the time. I've done alot of bending, meditation, reading…I finished my book days ago. I guess I could find another." Katara looked out her window, the sun was high in the sky, illuminating the verdun leaves of the trees in the palace garden.
"I just have a hard time moving on to a different book. A story sticks with you, I can't just shrug it off and start another one." Katara was grateful that only she knew of her chaotic uprooting and birth of her current relationships. Her words suddenly sounding like an ironic euphemism for her love life.
"I know what you mean. That's why I rarely ever read. I need to digest a book for a long time before I'm ready to crack open another." Suki agreed, taking another contented sip.
They sat there for a moment. A comfortable silence between them as they gazed out the window and studied the sheer beauty of the royal garden. Speckles of pinks, reds and whites among a sea of various shades of green. A pond set in the middle of a patch of lawn, a family of turtleducks paddling along the surface.
"It's so beautiful here, isn't it?" Suki breathed after a few minutes of quiet.
"Very." Katara answered as she picked at the bun in her hand and placed small ripped off chunks into her mouth.
"So do you think you'll be staying here very long? I mean, do you plan to return south at any point?" Suki asked, looking back to Katara.
Katara contemplated the question, she hadn't really thought too much about it. Dating Aang meant not really having a set home. He traveled everywhere and she went with him. But now she was free to be wherever she chose. But right now, especially with Zuko, this was her home. It was still so new though, despite such long buried feelings they only just got together.
Katara watched the turtleducks splashing and diving under the water, she hoped that she might stay here. She hoped that this puppy love would truly blossom into something as beautiful as the garden. And for the first time in her life she didn't feel any doubt in her heart.
"I'm not sure. I like it here. I guess I'm not in any rush to leave right now." Katara hoped to avoid playing pretend any more than absolutely necessary. She was being completely honest in her answer but should Aang come up, it was time to put on the facade again and lord knew she was just sick and tired of it.
"That sounds alright. No need to decide anytime soon. What if you finally get pregnant though? I imagine you'll want to return home?" Suki pressing was to be expected. She didn't think she was asking anything abnormal or making Katara shuffle on the bed because she was uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation.
"I'd visit for sure. But I just don't know if I'd want to stay there. I like living here and there's much more to offer. Imagine raising a child here." Katara said dreamily, once again taking in the serenity out her window.
She pictured light skinned children with dark hair playing out in the garden, feeding the turtleducks and tackling their proud and handsome father.
Katara found it interesting that in this vision, Zuko had exceptionally long hair.
"Still no luck I guess huh?" Suki asked.
Katara looked back to her friend who was also enjoying a warm bun, her cup of tea in the other hand.
Katara shook her head, sighing deeply.
She wished so badly that she could just go off and rant to Suki. Tell her she's trying with a completely different man now. Tell her how unbelievably crazy and wonderful, and weird it was to sleep with Zuko. How on board he is much to her surprise.
How they must be out of their minds to be trying immediately. How they've clearly been in love with each other for some time now and it was going to result in an 'all caution to the wind, screw it let's do this' bundle of joy.
"It's ok, it takes time right?" Once again, Katara heard her own voice and felt that sting of shame. Had she thought that at all while with Aang? Not at all. Had she given him that patience? Nope. But maybe that was a cruel and unfair way of validating her lack of satisfaction.
At Least she didn't vocalize it to him. Saying it to Zuko was more an ego stroker, fuel for his fire, so to speak. It was obvious the idea of Zuko impregnating her got them both a little hot and bothered, spurred him on and made her nearly chew through her bottom lip. An animalistic drive that tapped into their most primal sides. He was the alpha male and he would be the one to breed her. Simple as that.
Katara hadn't realized she was lost in thought until she caught sight of Sukis hand waving infront of her face, blocking out the view she was set on out the window.
"Sorry! My mind wandered a bit." Katara blushed, an embarrassed laugh escaping her as she looked back at her friend.
"That's OK. I understand." Suki said with a wink, dropping from her hand back to the tray to retrieve the bun she had put down.
"Are you guys trying alot? Like how often are you…" Suki bumped her eyebrows up and down suggestively, eliciting a good natured groan from Katara.
"Come on, I've been around a couple girls who were trying to conceive. I've heard it all and nothing phases me." She assured, taking a bite and following it with a small sip of her tea.
Katara knew that there would be more intrusive personal questions like that. She had to be honest about the technicalities if there was going to be any point to this discussion. But it was jut another tiny reason why Katara jut wanted to cut the crap and expose her and Aangs breakup and her new romance with the firelord.
"I don't know…I guess alot. More so lately."
I wonder why, she thought to herself with amusement.
"When was the last time?"
Katara hesitated. She hadn't always stayed with Aang every night. This was common knowledge, she liked her own space which is why she had requested her own room in the palace. If Suki, or anyone for that matter, had visited him or even asked about Katara being with him the couple days before they left, there's a chance it would have been revealed that she wasn't in his room those nights.
"The day before they left." Katara answered. She had to stop overanalyzing. This wasn't an interrogation and she wasn't getting the feeling that Suki suspected anything. It was hard not to worry though. Not only did she want to keep this to herself, despite the desire to be over and done with faking everything, and maybe flaunt a little bit, but she had Zuko and Aang to think about.
Suki nodded.
"When was your last period?" Suki asked these questions like she was asking about training, so cavalier.
Katara thought for a moment, she remembered having just finished it a couple days before she broke up with Aang. A contributing factor in why she ended up snapping. Her period always had her hormones shooting through the roof. It made her amped up and wanting. But Aang could never satiate her urges once given the opportunity.
She recalled the night after she finally stopped bleeding. Her body arching off her bed with images flooding her mind of Zuko ontop of her.
"I'd say it ended about 8 days ago." She answered finally.
"Hmmm." Suki appeared to be doing her own math in her head. Eyebrows furrowed as she popped the last chunk of bun into her mouth and placed the mostly empty cup onto the tray. Katara watched as she counted quietly on her fingers.
"That means you'll be ovulating right around the time they get back." Suki said after some calculations.
"Better get to it. Give him a nice 'welcome home' present." She said with a sly smile.
As if Katara wouldn't be pouncing on Zuko as soon as physically possible.
"I hate the waiting game." Katara sighed.
"I hate not knowing, waiting so long just to find out nothing happened." And now she was far more eager. An unbudgeable certainty in her current choice of mate had her yearning for a positive result as soon as possible.
But just like Aang, it could take a while, if it happened at all. She had simply hoped and assumed that Zuko was healthy and virile.
"I can imagine. But if you track your cycle better your odds will increase significantly. Plus you both should try eating lots of fish and greens. Boosts your fertility. There's also different positions you can try."
This made Katara perk up with intrigue. If she was being honest it didn't seem like changing position would matter, either way she knew the initial goal was being achieved. But she was willing to give anything a try and it might make for even more fun.
Katara took a long sip from her tea, raising her eyebrows at her friend in interest.
"So you're gonna want to use positions that allow for deeper penetration." The sound Katara made when she sucked her tea into her lungs was no doubt incredibly startling. She coughed and sputtered, all but slamming her cup down on the tray and holding a finger up to Suki.
Suki giggled in response as Katara finally cleared her chest and took a deep breath.
"You alright there?" She asked with a wide grin.
Katara nodded.
"Uh-huh. I'm sorry. I just….didn't expect that. I don't know why." She blushed deeply and wiped the tears that had formed in her eyes.
"Go on. Sorry. I'm alright." She laughed.
Suki gave her a genuinely affectionate smile before continuing. Despite the awkward personal conversation, it was nice for both of them to have such a close female friend. Toph was more like one of the boys so it wasn't the same talking with her.
"Anyways, missionary is always good. The tried and true. Have him hold onto your hips and kind of pull your lower half down onto him. Riding him upright it's just gonna come out." Suki spoke matter of factly while Kataras face reddened further.
"Another one is have him behind you, but it's better if you either lie down on your stomach completely or atleast have your upper torso touching the bed and raise your hips up. I'm not sure with Aangs height if that will work right though."
This wasn't helping Katara's sex deprivation. Imagining Zuko behind her, his hips slamming into her ass as he fucked her, penetrating her as deeply as possible, had her chewing her bottom lip and her mind happily skipping off into fantasy land.
"And after ejaculation you should like…lift your hips up for a little while, and it really helps if you have an orgasm, preferably at the same time as him." Suki poured herself another cup of tea, oblivious to the complete change in pigment of Katara's face.
"Mindset is important too. If either of you just isn't in the mood, it's not going to help. Passion is key." She added, holding her index finger up.
None of that is going to be a problem, Katara thought.
"OK, sounds good. Thank you Suki." She choked out with a barely stifled giggle. She always thought she was the mature one of the group but this conversation made her feel like Sokka or Aang. However it was also making her ears hot and her fingers tingle with need.
A subject change was almost necessary at this point.
"So what about you and Sokka? Are you guys thinking about having kids?" Katara asked, contemplating another bun, while graciously accepting Suki pouring more tea into her cup.
"Oh for sure." Suki answered firmly.
"Although I'm not sure we are in as big a rush. I don't mean that in a bad way. Sokka is just not as mature as you and Aang are." What a convenient choice of words, Katara thought.
"I think he'd probably faint if I told him I was pregnant right now. Or he'd run away. I don't blame him. Could you imagine though? Our kids playing together. The gaang all together like a big family, you and Aang and your children, me and sokka and ours. Toph would be the crazy aunt." Suki laughed dreamily.
Katara felt that recently familiar pang of guilt and sadness. The gaang as one big family. An idea that likely made a wonderful image in everyone's minds. She herself thought it would be an ideal little world for them all. But it was not how it was going to be. It wasn't actually what she wanted, as picture perfect as it would be. And all she could think was how she was disappointing them. How Aang likely dreamed of such a euphoric fantasy. But thats all it was now. A fantasy.
Katara couldn't help but notice the absence of Zukos name in this imaginary portrait of their future. Her heart sank a little. Maybe she was the last of them to accept Zuko into the group, but once she did, that was it, he was one of them.
But he wasn't there the entire time. He was their enemy at one point. A big obstacle that gave them headaches and indirectly caused Aang's death at one point. He only came to them at the end, and while his impact and contribution was grand, his absence and nuisance seemed to outweigh his redemption at times.
While Sokka and Aang still joked with him and Aang clearly had, at one time, a growing fondness for him, the firelord was not considered a permanent and important member of the gaang.
Especially now. If Aang hasn't killed him yet he'd be dreaming about it for a long time to come. And once Sokka found out he was slamming his sister and he was essentially half the downfall of her relationship with his best friend…
Suki and Toph would follow suit in the resentment.
Katara gave Suki a sickly smile.
"Thats a very wholesome image Suki. Do you think Sokka will at least propose to you in a reasonable time? I oddly imagine him just not thinking of it for years and years until you say something." Katara laughed awkwardly, not entirely sure if what she was saying was better left unsaid, she just wanted to steer the conversation from children and her own love life.
"I don't know, he's more of a romantic than you think. I could see him proposing soon if I'm honest." Suki looked wistful as she finished her second cup of tea.
Katara raised her eyebrows at her friend, draining her own cup before looking back out the window and studying the slightly lowered sun.
Two more days.

Chapter Text
The sun hung high in the sky, beaming down on Katara as she sat back on the grass and watched the turtle ducks happily gobble up the bread that Sokka tossed to them.
Suki lying on the ground with her head in Kataras lap, was gabbing with Toph about teaching metal bending.
"I'm going to be an awesome teacher. Can't you just picture it right now?" The short girl was picking at her toenails a few feet away under the shade of the tree she was sitting against.
"Absolutely. Children crying and begging for mercy while you taunt and torment them until, in a fit of hopeless irritation, they metal bend a desk around you like a cage." Sokka teased, coaxing a baby turtle duck out of the water to come take a piece of bread.
Suki chuckled and Toph merely looked prideful at Sokka's banter.
Katara adored the sun on her skin as she absent mindedly ran her fingers through Suki's hair.
She now felt the sun much deeper than she had two weeks ago. It was like it had a connection to her, brought her life and serenity. Like a small beacon of warmth and fire that tethered her to Zuko, despite how far he was.
Suki's auburn hair had grown quite a bit the last few months and Katara found herself falling into the peaceful task of forming a braid into it. She contemplated asking Zuko to stop getting those monthly trims so she could play with his hair like this.
"Aang comes home tomorrow, you excited sweetness?" Toph asked, tucking her arms behind her head and laying further back against her tree.
Katara nodded, a soft smile on her face as she busied herself with Sukis hair.
Tomorrow was like a sirens call, but instead of being lead into shipwreck, she was being lead into utopia. The promise of tender touch, warm skin on skin, that sultry, husky voice and Oh to kiss him again. Katara never knew 'feeling the spark' could be so literal.
She remembers feeling a bolt of hot vibrations shoot from her toes, through her core, filling her stomach and chest with an energy and burning desire she couldn't even fathom before him. Every kiss bringing another rolling wave of ecstacy, physical sparks dancing over her lips and across her tongue.
"Look at you, are you even with us anymore?" Suki's voice filtered up and shook Katara from her daze.
"Sorry." She blushed and went back to braiding the ginger locks that she had begun fiddling with in her love drunk stooper.
"I haven't seen you like this in a while. Looks like that underwear I bought for you was magic." Suki smiled, raising her eyebrows at Toph, who looked openly indifferent.
Poor Toph, Katara thought, maybe we should be telling the group so Toph doesn't have to hurt anymore. She wondered how long Toph had been harboring feelings for Aang, a small exasperated sigh escaping her as she felt even more guilt fall on the ever growing tower of shame and remorse.
"I guess so. Thank you again for that." They were burned off the first time I wore them Katara thought as she finished up the braid in Sukis hair.
"All done." She breathed out, leaning back on her hands and allowing Suki to sit up.
"Thank you, I'm gonna go look at my reflection in the water." She said contentedly, standing and brushing the grass from her pants.
"Shove Sokka in for me while you're over there." Katara quipped with a teasing smile.
"Of course." Her friend replied seriously before bounding over to her boyfriend.
When Katara turned to Toph the earthbender had sunk further down the trunk of the tree and her eyes were closed.
Katara sat for a moment, watching Suki take in the little braid in her watery reflection. Sokka stood next to her, eyeing the pond's surface with her.
The sun began to slowly paint the water, orangey texture arising on the grass and the warmth dwindling. Katara felt the final warm kisses of the sun's retiring rays as she stood.
Sokka and Suki had settled on the ground by the fountain, leaning against each other as they watched the sunset. Toph had started snoring, a small stream of drool trailing from the corner of her mouth to her chin.
"I'm heading to bed guys." Katara said with a stretch.
The couple turned their faces to look at her.
"I would, just sleep the last of the wait time away. Have a good night." Suki smiled, Sokka joining her.
"Good night Sis." He added.
……
The blue twilight is unforgiving this night, like a perfect bookend to her week.
Excitement tickling her nerves, her brain a live wire of ideas and fantasies mingling with lonely, yearning adoration that made time drag.
It must have been around 2 in the morning when she slinked into Zukos empty room. It felt nearly disconcerting being in there at night without him. His bed was neatly made, the moonlight illuminating the pristine red silk sheets. His robe sat folded in spotlighted isolation atop it where Katara had left it after Zukos departure.
She moved silently across the room to his bed, hesitating only briefly before delicately picking up his robe and letting her fingers glide over the extravagant fabric.
There was something eerily comforting, being alone in his room now. At first she felt like she was stumbling upon ancient ruins instead of her boyfriend's bedroom. The firelords enpty room had a daunting aura about it but as she climbed under the covers with his robe tucked against her chest, she found her heart aching in the sweetest way.
A new feeling she couldn't place. Her chest felt tight, her stomach felt jittery. There was a rising pressure in her throat and she thought she might cry but there wasn't an ounce of sadness. No, the nearly painful, drawn out breaths, like smoky, weighted sighs and the nervous scrape of her top teeth on her bottom lip was something brought on by a crushing, warm joy she only ever felt when thinking of her parents.
He was coming home tomorrow. And she was going to hold him tomorrow night, feel his warmth against her, the smell of sandalwood and smoke surrounding her.
He would tell her about his trip and she would lap up every little detail and ask for more just to hear his sly, raspy voice go on so innocently unaware of how delicious he was.
Katara turned onto her back, suddenly feeling too warm. She had finally begun to sink into the bed and relax when her skin decided to overheat.
She pulled her top off and shimmied out of her bottoms, tossing them to the floor.
A rush of smug excitement filled her already overwhelmed consciousness as she considered that she had slipped into the firelords bedroom while he was out, undressed and lay in his bed in his absence.
The secretive affair only become more thrilling.
Katara sighed at the cool silk top sheet against her warm skin. His scent enveloped her, dusting his robe and the bedding and tickling her nose like pollen from a rose.
Her legs, which were drawn up after she discarded her pants, now instinctively fell apart. She hummed contentedly as she grazed her puffy lips with his robe, eyes fluttering closed while images pulled from memory flashed in her mind.
She wondered, as her thoughts meandered through a sea of retained visual, physical and auditory stimulation, if Zuko was doing the exact same thing. Mind you he would likely be on Appa with Aang, his uncle and whoever else.
Maybe he did this before he set off back home. Recalled every spine tingling moment, every detail. Conjured up little ideas and indulged in the excitement of a hot and sweaty reunion.
Maybe he got too warm too, and had to slip out of his clothes. Maybe his fingers trailed down his stomach, the way Kataras were.
Her fingers slid into her wraps and danced across her dripping entrance. A wonderful shudder racked her body at the contact. She hadn't done this all week and the knowledge of what was to come the next day made her tremble all the more.
In her mind, Zuko was crawling between her spread legs, thick cock lining up with her heat, his toned, yet lean body surrounding her. Her fingers finally dove inside her core in unison with fantasy Zuko pushing into her.
Katara moaned loudly, whimpering at the end with impatient want as she pumped her fingers in and out of herself, curling inward between strokes. He fucked her hard, his hand moving to her throat. Katara slid her own hand to her throat, fingers sliding up her skin before gripping as she picked up speed. She whined louder and louder before shoving a section of his robe into her mouth as a gag.
He flipped her over and pinned her down like an animal as he slammed into her. She panted, her hot breath moistening the cloth in her mouth.
He tugged her hair back, telling her she was a good girl and asking if she wanted him to cum. She nodded subconsciously as she arched her back and her neck, her eyes slamming closed as her body tensed and unraveled.
Waves of bubbly ecstasy overcame her and she made a moaning sobbing noise at the end as she tried to tell her body to be patient.
She fell asleep snuggled into his robe, curled up on her side and trying to contain tears of excitement.
She would have thought she was sick with something if she hadn't heard the old women in her tribe talk about this feeling.

Chapter Text
Katara had never woken up so restful. Despite her inability to sleep as deeply as normal, eyes fluttering open constantly in anticipation of the sunlight. It was on nights full of waiting that the dark would seemingly go on forever. Never had Katara wished the moon away before. And that night, Yue relentlessly clung to the navy and black ink of the sky.
When the unearthly red hues began streaming in through the window, Katara was pulled from her slumber. His robe was wrapped and twisted around her body, under her arms, cluched in her hands as she nuzzled sleepily into the sandalwood scented pillows.
She opened her eyes slowly and almost surprised herself by the contented hum that escaped her.
His element rising and cascading a firey glow across the floor had her almost levitating. This was the feeling, among other new feelings, that Katara had read about. That women in her tribe talked about when the men would leave for long hunts. A beautiful ache, a deep, marring desire that seemed to stem far beyond the flesh.
This was the feeling she feared, she longed for, she began to assume was simply exaggerated fairy tales.
Katara could lie in her lover's bed all day, soaking up the warm rays of light, enveloping herself in his scent on the royal bedding she swam in.
The others might be up soon, she thought, sitting up and remembering she was almost completely naked.
She sighed and drew his robe up, slipping her arms into it and pulling it around her shoulders.
She didn't move after that. She simply sat on his bed, the blankets a mess around her and the light filtering in more and more by the minute.
No part of her wanted to go down to the mess hall. No part of her wanted to go back to her own room. For once she felt absolutely no need for that extra space. Even with him gone she pulled every memory of his presence from the room and held it close.
This room felt like home.
Like she had been lost for so long and suddenly she found that clear path that she had brushed off all this time. Thinking it couldn't possibly lead anywhere of importance and yet here she was lying back against the pillows again, sighing once more and letting her eyes close slowly as she enjoyed the safe haven of his bed for just…a little…bit…longer…
……
Tickling. That was the first sensation. The fog of her dreams was clearing as her skin in the real world twitched.
There was a sound as well. Something comforting that she couldn't place. It made her happy, like white noise, the rush of water at night, the hum of cicada-roaches in the summer. It spoke to her, rocked her gently as she surrendered to her rousing.
Oh and the warmth, the heat and the tickling trickled into her subconscious and Katara saw fog give way to the black of her closed eyelids.
And then the smell of sandalwood. Of smoke. The feel of rough, war torn hands and soft lips. Fingers dancing on her hip, teeth scraping at her neck gently. She moaned softly.
"My my I didn't expect to find a beautiful girl lying in my bed wearing nothing but my robe." More kisses to her neck, a weight in the bed next to her. That raspy voice had her eyes flying open.
"Oh…Zuko." She moaned as the firelord nuzzled further into her neck, his hair tickling her skin.
Her hands instantly moved to touch him. Fingers burying into his hair, her other hand tugging at his tunic, pulling the firelord closer to her.
"Zuko." She turned her face so she could pepper his own with kisses, sliding the hand lost in his clothing up to his scarred cheek.
Finally he moved his attention to her face.
"Good morning sweet heart." He said quietly, that boyish smile she missed so much was the best thing in the world to wake up to.
"Zuko." She said again, returning his smile, albeit hers was far wider and there was an air of desperate adoration about her.
Katara kissed his forehead, his eyes, his scar, his nose before meeting his lips.
Spirits she missed him, to have him against her like this, sweet, passionate kisses with an urgency so fierce it was as if they were dying of starvation.
Her heart had never felt so full. In that moment she swore that this was her first time kissing him. Everything they did a week ago had obviously been a dream, a delicious fantasy. There was a passion between them that answered every one of her prayers and had her questioning how she had survived so long without this exquisite uphoria.
She groaned into his mouth, opening up to him and reveling in the heat of him, the taste of him.
She couldn't think clearly. She had wanted to be at least conscious when they returned. She wanted to ask how it went, to figure out if she should even be here right now instead of putting on a new installment of the Aang and Katara:Lovebirds show.
And yet she couldn't pull away from him for the life of her. She wanted more of him, she drank him in greedily, pawing, breathless, hungry.
Zuko moved himself between her legs, never breaking the kiss as he let his weight settle on top of her, his hands lost in her wavy brown hair.
They fought for dominance, for submission. Neither one fully certain of the role they wanted. Eventually an unspoken agreement was made. This was going to be uncoordinated and messy. A reunion of reckless abandon.
Katara sucked and nibbled at his bottom lip, he did the same. He licked at her jaw and neck, grazing his teeth across her tingling flesh. She did the same.
She tugged at his hair almost in demand, soliciting a growl from him, which in turn, brought a whimper from her.
"I miss you, I missed you so much." She was nearly panting as she spoke between fevered affections.
"I missed you too beautiful." He sighed, letting his hands drop down, caressing every inch of her body. When he finally reached her chest she jumped lightly, gasping at her own need and his attentive nature.
"So much." He added. Katara nuzzled his face, wishing she could make him feel the thrum of her heart, the electricity coursing through her body and the intensity of her emotions. That small act was something Katara was new too. An act so tender and sweet it made her heart hurt in such a beautiful way.
Oh yes, this was the feeling. This was what it all came to. This is what was meant to be. Months of confusion, months of wandering eyes and butterflies. Months of smiling a little too hard, lingering touches, easy laughter. Battle scars that would remind them forever, that what was between them ran much deeper than doe eyes, fantasy and romantic intimacy.
She felt almost as though he was a part of her now, a piece of her that had become vital to her existence. And she would come to ponder, now and then, just when it had happened.
Before she climbed into his bed, drunk, angry, sad, wanting. Definitely. Before she saw him in his firelord robes for the first time, an odd sense of pride filling her, knowing that the man she had once hoped to drain of life, now deserved his title and more. Yes. He deserved her. And maybe she knew this the day the irritatingly attractive guy who enraged her beyond comprehension, stood by her side and respected her decision to spare a murderer. Comforted her, the heat of him holding her sending abnormal signals to her brain, her body.
Yes, he was a part of her, he gave her life, he gave her freedom, he gave her hope.
She attacked him then, no longer able to tether herself to the earth, she wrapped her legs around his waist. Hands roaming, tongues intertwining, her body pressed up into his in an attempt to absorb him into her being further.
