Chapter 1: Prolouge: Free

Chapter Text

Long ago, in a seldom-lived kingdom nestled in the lush greenery of the countryside, a King and Queen lived in relative harmony. They longed for a child to call their own, an heir to the throne, so that the kingdom would live on. The kingdom, though small, was prosperous, and its people were content.

One day, it happened. The kingdom was blessed with a baby boy named Amore, and the kingdom rejoiced as a new heir was born. However, the king died soon after, leaving the Queen in a world of loneliness, heartbroken, and the only person to take care of her son. Her heart ached with the loss of her beloved husband, and yet, it swelled with love for her newborn son.

In fear of the evil that is the outside world, The Queen keeps Amore inside, never leaving the castle, regardless of the situation, and never leaving unless he wants to get hurt. Isolated and alone, Amore chooses to study, and he does as he learns more about science and spends his time doing experiments. Though he would want to go outside, he already knows how to have fun inside.
💙
In the bustling village below, a retired knight named Lilia, with his weathered face and kind eyes, adopted a young boy he dubbed Silver, seemingly born on the same day as the prince. He was Lilia's joy, and he adores his son with all his being, even though he now lives under the cruelty of Lady Eliza, a seamstress he worked under.

Lilia taught Silver to be brave and loving to the less fortunate and always chose Silver over everything, despite his now poor lifestyle. Silver was always kind, though soft-spoken, and always chose to help, not harm.

As he grew, he started working as a seamster for Lady Eliza. Despite her harsh words and treatment, he never let her words damage his spirit or slow him down. He always did what she asked, never complaining—at least not to her face. But he always wanted a better life for himself and his Father and planned that one day they would leave the place and live a more peaceful life. His determination was unwavering, his spirit unbroken.
💗💙
Both of these men, with the aspirations of freedom, have never met. Little did they know, their paths were destined to cross, their fates intertwined in ways they could never have imagined.
Until...
🩷
The Queen, Serena, was told some terrible news. The royal mines seemed to be dry of jewels to make royal coins, and without that, the kingdom had no more money to support the village and its people. If the public found out, it may cause an uproar.

She had to speak with her royal advisor, Duke Divus Crewel, about the solutions. He kindly suggested combining the matrimony of another kingdom, which could help their kingdom flourish brightly.

But to do that was for his son, Amore, to wed the prince of the kingdom of the kingdom of his choice.

After a long week of discussion, Serena took a moment before she broke the news to her son.

"Amore," called Queen Serena, walking into the throne room, "Amore? Are you here? I have an important announcement to make."

Amore looks up from his book and looks at his mother in confusion. "Yes, Mother?"

"I have a special announcement to make." Amore nods, letting her continue. "As you know, our kingdom is going through a horrible money drought, and I have asked the next kingdom to order any help they can offer, and they have a solution for us."

"What is it, Mother?"

"Marriage."

Amore paused for a moment. "Pardon."

Queen Serena took a soft breath. "Yes, the Queen has asked us if you could marry her grandson, Prince Ruggie, and we could share our finances. Amore, think of this as a way to help our people, to help those who can't help themselves!" Amore silently put his book down and looked at her with disappointment.

"So, you're saying that you basically offered me up for marriage, without my permission and I'm basically in an arranged marriage because of our kingdom's lack of wealth?"

"Don't be like that." Queen Serena sighed.

"Mother, I am not ready for marriage and even if I was, I don't think it's a solution for a wealth issue."

"Then I suppose you don't want to help your people then?"

"Mother, don't be like that, "Amore sighs, "Of course I do, and I...I will marry Prince Ruggie for the kingdom."

Queen Serena smiles happily and hugs Amore, "Thank you, my darling. You'll be helping everyone so much with this."

Amore sighed and hugged his mother back, trying to fight any negative emotions he had within. But she was right; he had to do it for the kingdom, as it was his duty as the prince.

"Splendid," Serena grinned. "Crewel is on the way to get a wedding suit just for you. And he's going to your favorite seamstress, Ms. Eliza."

Even that news didn't make him feel better.

But he faked a smile and walked away, his book in his hands.
💙
"Excuse me," Silver squeaked as he carefully walked around town, carrying stacks of silks and fabrics that Eliza had demanded him to get. But it was one of those days when everyone was in the village, and no one cared to notice him. Luckily for Silver, he walked inside the dress shop without scratching the fabrics or himself. He let out a sigh of relief as he entered.

"Ah, Silver," Lilia greeted. Have you got everything?"

Silver nodded and carefully put the items away. "Yes, Father," he looked down. "Rush hour on the village today."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Lilia sighed, "I would've gone if it wasn't for my horrible back. Thank you for helping your old man out."

"You're welcome, Father," Silver nodded and continued stacking.

"You two, come here immediately," demanded Eliza, "We have a guest! An incredibly special one!"

"Who?" Lilia asked as he went up the stairs, followed by Silver.

There was a man, one Silver didn't recognize, but with his attire, he knew he was one of the few rich people living in the village. Behind him were two Dalmatians glaring and growling at Lilia.

"Ah, Advisor Crewel," Lilia smirked, "how many years has it been since we've seen each other?"

"Many," said Crewel, "still look as young as ever I see. What sort of witchcraft you worked on this time?"

"Oh, this is my natural beauty, unlike yourself, as the last time I saw you, you had a few wrinkles. So, I may ask what kind of spells you've used on yourself?"

"Lilia, enough," lectured Eliza. He's a guest from the royal palace."

"Yes," Crewel clears his throat. I would like you to create a wedding suit for the prince."

"For the prince?" Silver wonders.

"Yes, the wedding's in two weeks and we need everything to be in order before the big day."

"Ah, of course, with all the news of bankruptcy, of course, I understand where this is coming from, so let's see what we can do," Silver nods along with Father's prideful words and sighs. "Another piece of work."

"And I expect it to be done by tomorrow, at the very best," Crewel demanded. "Please do not be tardy with this. The Queen can be rather impatient as you know Lilia."

"Oh, do I," Lilia muttered to himself.

"And pardon me for being intrusive," Crewel chuckled. "But I did not know that you had a son. And what is your name, my dear?"

"Silver, sir," Silver nodded toward the man.

"And polite, unlike your father," Crewel laughed, examining Silver. "And such beautiful eyes. I must know, what color are they?"

"Uh, aurora-colored," Silver answered politely.

"Thank you," Crewel smiled. "Oh, I must be going, the queen hates it when I am gone for too long."

With that, Crewel departed, leaving Silver confused and uncomfortable.

Silver looked at Lilia and said, "Our work is never finished, hmm?"

Lilia laughs and leads Silver downstairs, "Oh, don't I know it."
🩷
A day has passed since his officially arranged marriage to Prince Ruggie, and this was the only thing he could do: Hide.

Amore hid as he heard the footsteps of the royal scheduler, listing so many of his duties for the day and how bad they were. He didn't need this, as a wedding was already a stress on his shoulders.

"Oh, we're late, late, late, "Cried the royal scheduler, "We have twenty, maximum twenty-two minutes for your royal fitting. And then it's move, move, move to your speech at the Historical Society. After that, we have to rush, and I mean rush, to the Horticultural Society Tea. And then there's your math lessons, your geography lessons, your science lessons..."

Amore was careful as he passed him. He sighed in relief as he walked down the hallway.
💗
All my life, I've always wanted
To have one day just for me
Nothing to do, and for once, nowhere I need to be
💗
Amore looks around before entering one of the hallways, watching how they were decorated and polished for the wedding. He sneaks by to watch the clouds swoop, looking down at the gardens in dismay.
💗
With no lessons, lords, or lunches
Or to-do list in the way
No one to say when to eat or, read or leave or stay
That would be the day
💙
Meanwhile, Silver sets up the mannequin with many fabrics for his wedding suit in the village. He starts to daydream as he cleans up the mess, humming and singing.
💙
All my life, I've always wanted
To have one day for myself
Not waking up with a pile of work on every shelf
💙
Silver walks by the window let a bird land on his finger and enjoys how the bird begins to sing along, as birds do.
💙
With no hems in need of pressing
And no sleeves in disarray
No wedding gown with a thousand stitches to crochet
And no debt to pay
💙
Footsteps alerted Silver out of his daydream, and he immediately started to work, trying to act less suspicious when she came around.

"What do you think I'm running here? A cabaret?" Eliza scowled.

"I would've said a debtor's prison." Lilia chuckles towards Silver, "How much do I owe you again?"

"Father," Silver hushed.

"Keep laughing, you'll be working for me for another thirty-seven years," Eliza sneered towards Lilia, " since you think this is funny to you."

"But he's already paid off more than half!" Silver protested.

"But there's an interest, isn't there? Your FatherFather should have thought of that before he borrowed so much," Eliza scoffed, walking back up the stairs.

"He did it to feed me!" Silver argued.

"His mistake." And the door slammed hard.
💙
What would it be like to be
What would it be like to be free (Free)

Free to try crazy things
Free from endless IOUs

Free to fly
Free to sing
💗
Amore gazed at a romance book and sighed, thinking of meeting someone, not just by marriage but by meeting up and getting to know them more realistically, as he dreamed about it.
💗
And marry whom I choose
💗
Queen Serena walks over and pats his shoulder, alerting him to a hug, "I'm so sorry, my darling. But as you know, you must marry Prince Ruggie. It is the only way to take care of our people.

"I know," Amore sighed. It's my duty." The maid walked in and handed Amore a gift, carefully wrapped in stings and ribbons.

"Oh! And look!" Queen Serena cheered, "Another engagement gift!"

Amore sighed and faked a smile as he walked away. Looking at his unopened gift, he almost ripped out the strings.
💗
You would think that I'm so lucky
That I have so many things
I'm realizing that every present comes with strings
💙
Silver hums as he dances with a long fabric, followed by many birds as he gets more for the wedding suits. Lilia couldn't help but smile at the sight as he sewed the cuffs of the wedding suit.
💙
Though I know I have so little
My determination's strong
People will gather around the world to hear my song
Can I come along?
💙💗
Amore finally found his way to his room, looking around for anyone not to disturb him as he rushed to his balcony and sighed in the afterglow of the fresh air. The only way he could be alone was to get rid of all the stress he had because of the wedding.

Silver opens the small window, helps the birds out, and watches as they fly into the air, going to whatever they want, and no one can ever stop them. Silver knew someday he could be free as the birds that fly high in the sky and go somewhere else, away from this forced work.
💗💙
Now I fear I'll never be
Soon I will forever be

Free

I close my eyes and feel myself fly
A thousand miles away

I could take flight, but would it be right?
My conscience tells me "Stay"
💙💗
Amore watched and looked down at the village below them and knew that he couldn't be so selfish and that the town should matter to him. He wanted to save his people from a future of debt forever, and he could not forgive himself if he could not.

Silver watches his Father struggle, only for a short while. He knows that Lilia can handle himself, but he hates that he has to watch his Father struggle, not only physically, but with the debt that he had caused by him. Silver never tells Lilia, but he feels guilt for being the reason Lilia is in debt and does odd ways to make money for them.
💗💙
I'll remain forever royal
I'll repay my Father's debt

Duty means doing the
Things your heart may well regret
💙
Amore found a pink rose resembling admiration, happiness, and love. It's a sign that things will get better, even during the most challenging times, and that he may find real love and happiness if he continues to hope and believe. He smiled before putting the rose in his hair and looked at the sunsets.

Silver found a blue rose resembling aspiration and admiration. He knew that he could keep going and that helping his father and his Father was his goal. Even when he was abused and belittled, he never backed down or gave up, like his Father before him and what Silver inspired him to be now.
🩷
But I'll never stop believing
She can never stop my schemes

There's more to living than
Gloves and gowns and threads and seams
In my dreams
I'll be free
💙💗
💜
The night shined brightly as Amore looked out his window, watching the stars shine brightly above him. He watched the knights travel around the castle, guarding. But he wasn't happy.

"Why?" He pondered, "I don't know why life has to be surrounded by sadness and loss...after this, what should I expect from life afterward? Being a wife in a loveless marriage? I don't want that, and I don't want to be stuck here. Maybe, I could have one day of freedom, even if I have to wait, just one day is what I want."

Amore's eyes noticed Crewel walking out, his Dalmatians following him out, and walking out the balcony, watching him leave. "That's... odd," Amore muttered. "Why would Crewel go to the forest? At this late at night, too."

Amore sighed, closed the door, and walked inside. "I can ask him in the morning," he yawned and lay on his bed, his eyes slowly closing.
💟
Two men were inside the royal mines, codenamed Dee and Dum, as they were associated with bad business, i.e., finding and stealing gems so the kingdom could stay bankrupt, until...

"Dum?"

"Yeah, Dee."

Dee grabbed a rock from one of the carts and held it out to Dum, "What is this?"

"Oh," Dum chuckled, "I put that there."

"You idiot! We are supposed to find gems, not stupid boulders!" Dee hissed and threw the boulder away, "Do you even remember the boss's plan."

"Yes?" A tremble was heard, like a rock slide, alerting both men.

Thinking that someone had found their location, they rushed inside a cart.

A light went closer and closer until Crewel entered his head, grinning wickedly. "Hello."

He whispered. "Ah, boss," Dee gasped, "We thought you were someone else."

"Who did you think I was? The Queen?" Crewel sighed.

"Of course not." Dum laughed, "We knew it was you."

Crewel's face palmed, and they looked over at the duo.

"What did you find?"

Dee smiles and hands Crewel a golden nugget, which is big enough for Crewel as he snatches it. "This is perfect! This will be enough to save this kingdom and make me richer than the Queen herself!"
💟
I've been bowing, I've been scraping
I've been lying like a rug
And for ten long years,
I've had to pay my dues
But today, I am escaping
For the last, gold has been dug
It was waiting there, so how could I refuse?
💟

Crewel imagined himself delivering the gold, getting praise from everyone around him, especially the Queen and Amore, and becoming the king in progress.
💟
I'm returning home a hero
Who's discovered mighty wealth
And what better husband could a prince to choose?

I'm the suitor who will suit him
Bring the kingdom back to health
And I'll wear the crown, for how could I refuse?

Raise every glass and rouse every cheer
Praise that the reign of Crewel is here
Master in charge of all that I see

All hail me
And by marrying the prince
I get all that I desire, Like a moat, an ermine coat, and palace views

Even though he treats me coldly
It's a sign of inner fire
For inside, he's thinking, "How can I refuse?"
💟
"Does he know about the.." Dum mumbled to Dee.

"What are you two muttering about over there?" Crewel demanded.

"Well, the engagement," Dee answered, "Remember? The prince is destined to marry Prince Ruggie? In two weeks?"

"Hm, oh...that was happening," Crewel snarled.

"Yeah, I mean, the queen is a queen, she had a crown, a specter, and has a big fancy chair, and-"

💟
Silencio! No! I won't let go!
This peasant son won't turn and run because some reckless royal chose another beau!

Ah!

💟
He smirked and clutched the gold as a plan soon entered his hand.

💟
It's a temporary setback
It's a momentary lapse
But conveniently, my ego doesn't bruise
And the moment that I get back, I will show them who's the boss
You can bet your bullion there'll be no "I do's"
💟
"What's the plan, boss?" Dum asked, tilting his head.

"Oh, let me explain." Crewel laughed.
💟
Yes, suppose the boy goes missing
So the prince says "Au revoir"
Then I find him, bring him back, and make the news
Then the Queen will be so grateful
That she'll pledge the heir to Moi
And I'll humbly tell her
"How can I refuse?"

When our ceremony's over, I'll arise and take the throne
And that nitwit Amore can kiss my shoes
For the kingdom and the castle Will be mine and mine alone
If the crown should fit, then how can I refuse?
💟
"So you two, kidnap the prince by the end of this week, hide him in that desolate cabin in the woods, and keep him there until the prince leaves and the wedding's off," Crewel ordered.

"Of course, boss!" Dum proclaimed happily.

"Happily!" Dee added.

"Then I'll be king, and no one can stop me!" Divus cackled.
💟
So get ready with the roses (So get ready with the roses) And stand by with the champagne (And stand by with the champagne)

When you've got a brilliant plan, you never lose (When you've got a brilliant plan, you never lose)

Yes, before this chapter closes ( Yes before this chapter closes)

I'll be big as Charlemagne (He'll be big as Charlemagne)

It's a thankless job, but how can I refuse? (It's a thankless job, but how can he refuse?)

How can I refuse? (How can he refuse?)
💟
Crewel laughs echoed within the caves, causing bats to fly out into the dim night above.

Chapter 2: Act One: Village Day

Chapter Text

Amore sadly sighed as he watched the children of the royal gardeners play in the gardens, their laughter a testament to their carefree spirits. He only hoped those children lived without expectations like he had, stuck within the castle walls, with no one else to talk to most of the time. He couldn't help but notice their progression, a stark reminder of the life and movement he lacked.

A knock came on the door. "Oh, come in."

Fioare, one of the apprentice advisors, approached Amoré and presented a pink rose. "A flower for your highness?"

Amoré gasps and smiles as he takes the rose. "Thank you, Fioare, but why the formalities?" He stands from his chair. " It's just me. We've been friends for a while, you know."

"Ah, on the way over here," Fioare explained, "the queen told me to come to get you as the ambassador, as well as the welcoming queen, has arrived."

"Already?" Amoré sighed. "Please tell my mother I'm not in the mood." He walked to the balcony, "and frankly, I don't ever want to meet up with them."

"I suppose you are not over it?" Fioare chuckles, "I get it, Amoré, but these people are depending on you."

"Don't give me a lecture, too." Amore huffed. "All of this makes me go insane as it is."

"Oh, of course not. But I understand your frustrations, and maybe I can do something about it?"

"Fioare," Amoré smiles, "I thank you, but the flowers aren't enough to make me feel better about all this."

Fioare smiles, "How about a day in the village?"

Amoré's eyes lit up, and looked over, "Really?"

"Yes, my brothers and I are tasked with making some lovely flower arrangements, and I thought it would be good to invite you over to make you feel better," Fioare explained with a smile. Perhaps it's time for you to get some fresh air."

Amoré smiles and hugs Fioare, "Thank you, Fioare!"

Fioare smiles and looks at the gardens below, "Tomorrow morning?"

"That's perfect." Fioare nods and walks out of the room, leaving Amoré by himself once again.

Amoré looks out once again, now excited about tomorrow's plans. While looking, he sees Crewel return. "He's back...this late?" He whispered.

Amoré walks out of his room and strolls down the halls, looking for Crewel, meeting him halfway.

"Ah, Advisor Crewel," Amore greeted. "I haven't you all day."

"Me?" Crewel grinned. "Well, I am honored you thought of me, your Highness, but I can't help but worry about you."

"About me?" Amoré jumped as his Dalmatians growled behind him.

"Penny! Polly!" Crewel sternly spoke, "Don't growl at the prince." He looks back at Amoré, "You were saying, your highness?"

"Right. I saw you last night, walking away from the castle," Amoré explained, "what were you doing last night?"

"Ah, that is my business alone, your highness," Crewel sneered, "it's unbecoming of you to snoop around other people's business."

"You're right, but I was just being curious." Amoré huffs and turns around, "Good day, Crewel." Amoré walks away, ignoring Crewel's grin.

Crewel sighs, "Ah, young people don't stop weaseling their way into a business that isn't even there's." He opens the door to the throne room and bows down.

"Ah, Crewel." Queen Serena grinned, "Just in time. Have you got Amoré?"

"Ah, no, Your Highness." Crewel sighs. "He left as soon as I arrived." He walks forward, but you shall not worry. He will come around, and he and Prince Ruggie will be able to get along splendidly."

"Good for you to think so," Serena spoke, "and here is Queen Enda and her two advisors."

"Please to meet you." Crewel bowed.

"Oh, such a nice advisor, a fancy man too." Queen Enda chuckles, "You got a good eye, Serena."

One of the advisors rolled his eyes as the other bowed back. "Ah, the pleasure's all mine."

Serena smiles. "Now we are all formally introduced, we shall discuss wedding plans. Because we have only have next week for the wedding."

"Next week?!" Gasped Crewel, causing many to look towards him.

"Ah, did I not tell you?" Serena gulped, "I apologize."

"Ah, sorry for my outburst," Crewel apologies, "I forgot about that little detail."

"Of course you did," muttered the second advisor, perched on a nearby wall.

"Don't be rude," Enda lectured. "Be nice. The Kingdom is nice enough to let us come over. And I hope that my son can arrive soon, but he wants to get his suit ready for the upcoming wedding."

"Oh, how delightful," Serena grinned. "He seems eager to marry my son."

"Eager is not what I would say," Edna's advisor sighed. "But yes, he seems responsible for once and went to get the suit created. And I hope he comes back in time."

"Yes, that is my hope as well." Edna smiles.

"Well, I hope that he and Amore can get to know each other the upcoming week."Serena frowned. "I fear that this is going to be a long week."

💙

"La la la...la la la... la la la la...," Silver mused as he chose new fabrics for new gowns, suits, etc. Silver was alone at the shop since Lilia and Eliza had gone to town for more fabrics and food. As he was alone, his mind began to wander into his imagination, like dancing with a prince as they sang a duet together. Besides joining the royal guard and sword fight, it was one of his common daydreams.

"...if you love me for me," he sang, dancing with a mannequin, "I will stay by your side if you love me for me..."

"Wow," breathed an unknown voice, startling Silver, "You have a beautiful voice."

Silver gasps, looks over, and blushes. "T-thank you," he says, setting the mannequin down. "D- Did you need anything?"

"Ah, yeah," the boy chuckles, "we heard this is the place for wedding equipment?' Silver quickly nods. "A-are you the owner?"

Silver shakes his head, "No, I'm just a mere seamster,...that's all."

"With that beautiful of a voice, I thought you would be a singer."

Silver blushes and looks down, "Thank you," he clears his throat, "let me take your measurements." Silver measures the boy, trying to avoid conversation as the unknown boy keeps talking or flirting with Silver the whole time.

After a while, the measurements were done, and the design was created.

"Don't worry, I'll work hard to get it."

The boy looks down at his hand and carefully takes it: "Not too hard, okay? Look at all those bruises, cuts, and small pricks. Haven't you got proper care?" Silver, stunned, shakes his head. Coins clash into his hand. "I'll see you in a few days, my dear seamster."

Silver blushes and nods. He watches him leave and sits down, trying to process what happened during those ten to fifteen minutes. Silver puts the coins in his small pocket. He gasps as he feels an unfamiliar object and takes it out.

It was a golden engagement ring with a small diamond at the center. Silver walked up to the counter to see the boy again, but he was nowhere to be found, even among the waves of people in town.

"..who are you?" He whispered, looking at the ring one last time as he carefully put the ring back into his pocket and walked back inside.

Silver started to sing again, imagining the stranger as he danced again, making the suit for the wedding next week.
🩷
Somehow, Amore could avoid Queen Edna and Prince Ruggie when he finally appeared yesterday. But Amore never wanted to meet him; maybe he would only be on the wedding day. Though he did want to know the stranger who wished to his hand, is it worth trying to love a stranger you just met?

He doesn't know and knows his feelings cannot be manipulated. He wants to feel love, not force it, and if he had that today, it would make him happy, but it would hurt him more.

But he shoved those feelings down when he dressed; he heard the door knock.

"Uh, who is it?" He called out.

He didn't hear an answer but a swish of a note that flew underneath his door. He walked over, picked up the note, and read it.

"Meet us at the entrance when noon arrives, but please avoid getting caught. We'll be waiting."

Amore could hardly contain his excitement as he quickly got dressed.

"Just go to your lessons and sneak out around noon," Amore planned as he brushed his hair. "I can't wait for my first...and final... day in town. I hope it can all be worth it in the end before I'm trapped forever."

As planned, Amore sat through his lessons like an actual prince. Sometimes, his excitement caused some lecturing from his professors, but he didn't care as noon approached. He managed to get to the carriage without being detected by the guards and even his mother, and of course, he was wearing a hood to conceal his identity.

"Stay hidden, okay?" Fioare whispered toward Amoré as he helped him into the carriage.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Mathys muttered, "I mean, we could get in trouble for this."

"It's what I want," Amoré whispered, "and Fioare promised."

"And don't worry, we won't be gone for long," Fortune grinned, "let us go."

The carriage rode off, and Amoré watched the view as he went past the palace walks to the outskirts of town, seeing horses eat the grass around them, ready to ride along with the winds of freedom.

"Ready?" He heard Fioare called out.

Amoré nods and walks out to look into the city.

"Just nervous," he answered, walking towards the town and looking around.

The brothers follow. "Now, Mathys and I will get some of the flowers for the engagement, and Fioare will show you around."

Fioare nods and takes Amoré's hand. "Follow me." Amoré and Fioare walk in the town.

"Look at this place," Amoré sighs. It's much more open than the palace, and everyone doesn't know who I am."

"Ah, that's great." Fioare smiles. How about I show you some of my favorite places? Like a small bakery nearby?"

"Oh? Please do." Fioare smiles and walks towards a nearby bakery. Amoré looks around and sees an upsetting sight: a man boarding up his shop and walking away sorrowfully. He looks around for more boarded shops and sees many carrying bags, leaving town either on foot or on horses.

This made Amoré sad, as he was unaware of the condition of his Kingdom and how many suffer from a lack of money. It made him consider not canceling the engagement, as it would help the people he was supposed to lead.

He couldn't shake off his guilt, but he knew he wasn't responsible. He just needed to do what was right; these closed shops reminded him of that.
💙
Like a bird that flies
In the morning light
Or a butterfly
In the spring
💙
Amoré gasps out of his trance. "What was that?" he whispered, walking towards a fountain in the middle of the town. He saw a hooded boy helping a girl with her injured knee, presumingly singing to calm her sobs down. Amoré watched, and now he couldn't stop looking. The song was beautiful, and the melody was unique.
💙
When your spirit rides
The wings of hope
You'll find your wings
💙
"Y-you have a beautiful v-voice," the girl whimpered.

"Thank you." The boy smiles and wraps her knee.

"C-can you keep singing? I like it.."

"Of course."
💙
For you're always
Free to begin again
And you're always
Free to believe
💙
He picks up the stack of fabrics and silks and waves at the little girl, who runs back to her mother, clearly happier.

Amore joined an apparent crowd that came to listen to the young man sing; a beautiful harmony filled the air. Amore thought it was like a love lullaby, a sweet tune that could help you sleep without any nightmares. He also saw how people gave the boy golden coins for the performance, and he did deserve it.
💙
When you find the place
That your heart belongs-
💙
"You!!" Yelled a woman towards the boy, "I knew it! You were slacking off again! Singing and daydreaming while I work my butt off for everyone in this godforsaken village! Now get back to work or else I-"

His hood came off as she grabbed him, revealing his face. Amoré gasped, seeing his face. The boy had aurora-colored eyes and silver hair contrasted with his golden and aurora-colored eyes.

"Sorry, Lady Eliza," the boy mumbles.

"You should be," Eliza hissed.

Amore blinked and quickly came to the boy's aid. "Leave him alone! He has done nothing wrong other than singing such a beautiful melody unlike any I have heard. Now, why don't you go on and leave him be."

"Excuse me! Why I outta-"

"Madam, please," the boy spoke. "He didn't mean what he said."

The woman huffed and grabbed the coins from the ground, counting them to herself. This upset Amore much more as he was ready to catch them, but the boy stopped him.

"Well, let's count this as compensation," she sneered. You and your father still owe me tons of money, Silver. But I can let you run amok for a while longer, considering you gave me more money."

"But I have earned that myself, Madam," the boy, Silver, argued.

"Ah ah ah, and you know where that money goes? To me."

The women left, leaving Amore with the boy, who sighed. With the coins he had brought, Amore smiled and gave him some.

"That was a beautiful song," Amore complimented. "I found myself humming along."

"Oh, thank you. My father sang it to me," Silver slowed as Amore removed his hood. "Woah...you...you look like me...?" he whispered, walking towards Amoré, "... same eyes."

Amoré blushes, "Yes, we have the same eyes, and I've been told that aurora-colored eyes are scarce. I mean, we do look similar... except for the hair. Oh, is that why your name is Silver?"

"I'm surprised your name isn't Golden," Silver joked, causing Amoré to giggle.

"So, why are you outside the palace?" Silver asked, tilting his head. "Aren't you supposed to stay in? I was curious to know how it worked over there."

"Oh," Amoré sits by the fountain, "It's the day I can be outside without responsibilities, rules, and no setbacks. I'm destined to marry someone I don't even know. So this is...my first and last taste of freedom before next week."

Silver frowns, "I'm so sorry. I didn't know.'"

"It's alright," Amoré laughs, "You must have such an easier life here than what I experienced."

"I wouldn't say that." Amoré tilts his head as Silver stands.
💙
If I like to have my breakfast hot
Madame Eliza will make me pay
💙

"Pay?!"Amore gasped.

"Yes."
💙
And I have to fetch the eggs myself
And the barn's a mile away
It's cold and wet, yet still, I get
An omelet on my plate
💙
Silver sighs, sinks to his seat, and looks around. Now, resting his head on the fountain, he is almost asleep. Amore is worried he is sleeping.
💙
But in my head, I'm back in bed
Snuggled up and sleeping late
💙
"And you know what, I'd rather sleep," Silver hums, getting up.

"Really?" Amoré gasped, walking towards Silver.

"Really," Silver responded, "But it's all right. I mean, I'm used to it. And you?"

"Well..." Amoré hesitated.

"Well?" Silver echoed. Amoré gulps.
💗
If I want some eggs
I ring the bell
And the maid comes running in
💗
Amoré pulls Silver up, pretends to be a servant, and hands out an imaginary tray, and Silver takes an imaginary cookie from it. He could feel Amore's annoyance, watching him slump around, almost pouting.
💗
And she serves them on a silver tray
And she brings a cookie tin
💗
Amoré bows, helps Silver onto the table, and pretends to serve him, making him laugh.
💗
And while I eat, she rubs my feet
And strolling minstrels play
But I'd rather be in my library
Reading music books all-day
💗
"And honestly, I can't help but feel so...crowded," Amore sighed. I want to do things I want, and that's what I want people to believe, but that's not even true."

Silver gets back up and looks over at Amoré.

Amoré's simple portrayal of his life made Silver visualize how Amoré was unhappy with it. "You know..."
💙
I'm just like you

🩷: You are?

You're just like me
There's somewhere else we'd rather be
💙
Amore gasped as birds came forth as Silver sang, but he also welcomed the birds that landed on him.
💙
Somewhere, that's ours.
Somewhere that dreams come true.
Yes, I am a boy like you
💙
Amoré looks at Silver and pets the bird as it nuzzles his finger.
💗
You'd never think
It was so
But now I've met you, and I know
It's plain as day
💗
Amoré takes Silver's arms and starts to twirl, catching Silver off guard but enjoying it nonetheless. The birds dance around them, leaving them happy as well.
💗
Sure, as the sky is blue
That I am a boy like you
💙
"So," Amoré laughs, "you're a singer?"

"No," Silver corrected. I work at Madame Eliza's penitentiary," he cleared his throat. Uh, I mean Dress Emporium."

"My mother loves Madame Eliza's dresses! And she never shuts up about them either." Amore groaned. "I know where I get all my clothes from."

"Want to know a fun fact?" Silver looks at Amoré's suit. "I made the one you're wearing."

Amoré gasps and looks, "You made this?" He asked, "It's my favorite. The design looks so complicated!" He looks over at Silver, "How?"

"Oh, but it isn't really." Silver laughed and began to mimic the movements, giving Amore much to imagine.
💙
First, I choose a fabric from the rack
And I pin the pattern down
And I stitch it in the front and back
And it turns into a gown!
💙
Amore giggled as he began to think about dancing in the middle of his room in a new gown without marriage tying him down.
🩷
I wear the gown without my crown
And dance around my room

And imagine life without the strife
Of an unfamiliar groom
💜
Amoré looks up, sees his palace, and sighs sadly, "But I'd never let my mother know. I wouldn't want to disappoint her, and I doubt she would understand me."

Silver looks over at Lilia and nods in agreement, "I completely understand." Amoré eyes teared up a little when Silver said that, and his grin was happier than his previous.

It was odd, but at that moment, he felt understood.
💜
I'm just like you
I think that's true

You're just like me
Yes, I can see

We take responsibility
We carry through (We carry through)

Do what we need to do
Yes, I am a boy like you
💜
The boys danced in unison as they celebrated their friendship, each happy that they had found a friend in the hardships of their lives. They were each different but wanted to do better, if not for themselves, for someone else.
💜
I'm just like you (I'm just like you)
You're just like me (You're just like me)
It's something anyone can see
A heart that beats (A heart that beats)
A voice that speaks the truth
Yes, I am a boy like you
💜
"That was amazing," Amoré laughs, "We could be brothers!"

"I suppose so," Silver smiles, "..I mean, except for the hair of course."

"Well, let's ignore the hair,"  Amore giggled, putting on his hood, Silver following. "See, we look pretty similar despite it. You think we can fool someone?"

"Possibly? But who?"

"I do have something else," Amore smiled as he carefully undid his coat and shirt to reveal half a crown birthmark on his right shoulder. "It's a sign of royalty; only some have it. And it's the only thing that reminds me of my father...I barely know him."

Silver looks and shows off his left shoulder, hesitating to show a half-crown birthmark.

Amore gasped. "You....You're like my other half!"

"Yeah, I always had it, but I never told anyone," Silver said. "Once my father told me, he did offer to let me go, but I couldn't leave my father, you know."

"Absolutely. And between you and me, the royal life is not worth gaining if you lose the person you love." Amore sighed.

"Yeah, but it's somewhat relieving to be with someone else."

"Yeah."

"But wow, it's like we're brothers!" Amore beamed.

"Technically we are.."

As they conversed, a litter of kittens zoomed past them as a dog began to chase them. They also watched as an older woman ran, the presumed owners of the kittens.

"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear," the woman muttered as she ran over.

"Ma'am, what's the matter?" Silver asked.

"Oh, I was with my kittens, and then that dalmatian came in and tried to scare all my kittens away!" the woman panted. "Oh, i fear for them!"

"A dalmation?" Amore questions. "Come on, Silver! Let's go!"

Amore grabbed Silver's arm and started to follow the dog, barking at the young kittens, who were now running into a corner, cuddling against each other.

"Back down, you horrid thing!"  Called a voice from afar.

Amore and Silver watched as a strange man in black armor grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck and glared at him. Silver sighed and put his face in his hand as he watched the man lecture the dog for terrorizing the poor kittens for no reason.

"Oh, what a charming individual," Amore whispered.

"Oh, extreamnely," muttered Silver. "Sebek, leave the dog alone. I think it got the point."

"Pardon me...Oh, Silver. I didn't expect to see you out here." The man cleared his throat. "But I did what I have to do."

Silver rolled his eyes as he walked past Sebek and lowered down to soothe the frightened kittens, humming a minor melody.

"Ugh, Divus's dog." Amore scoffed. "Snifing around like he usual does."

"You know this dogish fiend?"

"He belongs to my royal advisor, Divis Crewel," Amore explained. Penny. Now, I want you to return to him this instant, young lady."

Penny snarled but listened to Amore and walked away.

"Hmph, I can't believe that man..."

"Oh thank you, thank you." The woman grinned, catching up. "You have done so much. Please, how can I repay you?"

"Oh, there's no need," Silver smiled as he put the kittens back into the basket.

But one white cat jumped out and snuggled into Silver's hands, purring. Silver carefully picked it up and petted her hair.

"Woah, hello there." Silver greeted.

"Oh, that's how. That's why I was here today, to help these little ones get adopted." The older woman grinned. "Please, each of you."

Amore smiled as he grabbed a brown and white spotted kitten, who nuzzled against his finger welcomely.

"Oh, they're so sweet." Amore complimented.

The woman grinned and looked at Sebek, who politely declined the offer. Although she was saddened, she was happy that the two identical men had adopted some of her precious kittens.

Suddenly, Silver's kitten started barking loudly, jumping with joy.

"Did he...?"

"Yeah, she seems to have a mind of her own," the woman laughed.

"I do think it's a welcoming surprise," Silver chuckles and puts the tiny kitten into his pocket. "Pleased to have you with me, Briar."

"Oh, and the same with you, Thorn." Amore grinned at his new kitten, who meowed with glee.

The woman thanked them again and walked away. The trio walked back to the fountain.

"So, you're Sebek?" Amore smiles. "It's nice to meet you, sir. I didn't think I would see a knight around here."

"I came with my grandfather," Sebek explained. "He and Silver's father, Lilia, are friends from the past, and he tries to help with his current living situation as much as he can. And I sometimes visit when I have the time."

"And does something increibly loudly," Silver added, putting his hood back on.

"Excuse me," Sebek huffed. "It is not my fault that you are lazy and sleeping all the time."

"Hm," Silver hummed, not responding.

Amore giggles. "You two seem close already."

"He's Been since childhood," Silver said. He can be loud, but he's the closest to a brother I have."

"That's so sweet."

As they continued to walk, they told Sebek about their encounter and the discovery of the same birthmark, which Sebek couldn't believe in his own eyes, but he did once he saw them for himself.

They arrived at the side entrance of Eliza's Dress Emporium.

"Father," Silver called out. "I'm back."

"Oh, already?" laughed Lilia as he came into view. "And you brought some friends, how lovely."

"Who's here?" called out Baal. "Oh, Sebek. Back on time."

"Yes, and I have made an acquaintance."

"Oh, and who he might be?"

Amoré looks up, carefully removes his hood, and smiles, "You can just call me Amoré, sir."

"Amoré, hmm?" Lilia laughs, "My, you have the same name as the prince. And you look like him too. Perhaps you are the prince?"

That comment made Amore flustered, which made Lilia laugh wholeheartedly.

"Lilia," Baal groaned. "I apologized. He has always been a prankster."

"Don't worry, I won't tell." Lilia said with a wink. "I'm just surprised you came by, is all. Especially since a royal as yourself never leaves the castle other than events. Well, the queen does."

"Yeah, and leaves me with tons of servents and tutors every time," Amore pouted.

"Oh, do stay. I would like to hear more about you."

Amore smiled as he sat down, now happy to be away from everything else and listen to new stories he had never heard.
💜
Fioare was panicking, as he couldn't see Amoré anywhere. He asked around, and it led him to Eliza's Dress Emporium, a place where he remembered Crewel going for Amoré's wedding suit.

"Why would Amoré be here?" he wondered. I don't think he knew about the suit." He shrugged off his nervousness and knocked on the entrance door. Eliza walked out and sneered, "What do you want?" "Oh, my apologies, but I came to get a wedding suit for the prince."

Eliza's eyes narrowed.

"I'm a worker of the Royal palace."

"Come on," she leads him inside and knocks on the door, "Lilia! Is the suit ready?"

"Lilia..?" Fioare muttered.

"It's on the way!" Lilia cheered from beyond the door.

The door opens, revealing Lilia. "Hello," he greets. Let me show you what we did so you can tell me if it's ready."

Fioare gulped and followed Lilia down the stairs. "Are you scared of me?" Lilia teased. "I suppose you know about my olden days as a knight, hmm?"

"Yes, Sir Lilia," Fioare answered. "I've heard many tales of you on the battlefield, and knights have always told stories of you when training new trainees."

"Aw, I'm flattered," Lilia grinned, "I worked for that queen when I was a young fae, but after a few years, I... retired."

"Yes, many didn't know why."

"Ah, let's just say that The queen and I had a major disagreement."

"What about...?"

"Oh, nothing in particular. Silver, can you get the wedding suit?"

Silver looks up, "Which one?

"For the prince!"

"For me!?" Amoré gasped, getting up from his seat.

"Amoré!!" Fioare sighs in relief. "Thank the stars, you're okay! Why did you wander off?"

Amoré hugs Fioare and pats his back, calming him down.

"I'm fine," Amoré smiles, "I've been here the whole time, safe and sound. And I made a new friend!"

Fioare looks over, and his eyes widen when he sees Silver. He looks back at Amoré, going back and forth between them.

"I know, right?" Lilia joked, "Similar in almost every way."

"It can take a while to get used to," Sebek added.

"Oh my god," Fioare breathes. "You two look so similar. I mean, it's like looking at a portrait."

"It's a compliment, "Amore winked.

Silver hums grabs the suit and quickly boxes it.

He then goes over and hands it to Fioare. "Thank you."

"Silver, Sebek, you don't mind walking them out?"

Silver and Sebek nod and lead them outside the shop as the carriage arrives, and Fioare opens the door.

"It was a pleasure meeting you both," Amore grinned. I hope to see you again."

"Maybe one day," Silver smiled. "When I'm not busy here."

"Indded, seeing yiu again would be a delight, considering the stories you gave told us."

"Aw, thank you."

Amore walked forward towards the carriage before turning back to Silver.

"One day, I'll invite you to the palace," Amoré concluded, "We can do everything together and maybe you can even sing! Like the beautiful melody I heard earlier."

"I'll be here," Silver looks back at the shop. "Always."

"Don't worry, I'll come by personally to get you. I promise you!"

Amore looked at Sebek, walked over, and kissed his cheek. "And I promise that you will have front-row seats to that performance."

Sebek blushed as Amoré walked inside the carriage and waved as the carriage rode off.

Silver waves back and smiles. "What a day. Sebek? Sebek, are you okay?"

Silver noticed that Sebek was staring at the back of the carriage and let out a laugh. "Oh, Sebek finally has a crush? What a day indeed."
🩷
When he entered the carriage, Amore began talking about his day, meeting Silver, adopting Thorn, and meeting Lilia and Sebek, hoping to see them again.

"You met Lilia!" Mathys hissed, "The feared guard of the palace?! And he's a semester? What has the world become?"

"Mathys was very nice and maybe even a bit giggly at times," Amore explained. "And he does have a son that he adores, so it seems to me he's good in life. And that son, Silver? He's a boy like me."

"Well, that's fantastic," Fortune said. "He seems very happy."

Amoré didn't listen; he looked back at the village and smiled, petting Thorn to sleep.
🩷
That night, Amoré couldn't sleep; perhaps he was buzzing after the day in the village. So, there he was, looking at books about specific flowers and their meanings, at around midnight, watching Thorn sleep on a nearby pillow. He was always reading, and the book was special, as Fioare had gifted it to him.

"Maybe a walk in the gardens could help.." he muttered softly. Thorn yawned as he woke up, watching Amore leave, and decided to follow him.

Amoré walked outside his room, carefully and slowly, towards the bottom of the stairs, trying not to alert the guards.

Unfortunately, as soon as he opened the door to the garden, a bag immediately covered him, and he was tied up. He screamed to be released, but the two men who kidnapped him were laughing and running as soon as he was within the confined of the bag.

Amoré could only see the darkness and laughter of the evil man, which scared him as now he was whisked away from his home.

Chapter 3: Act One: Captured and "Returned"

Chapter Text

Amoré fell onto the floor, and the door locked behind him. He ran up and banged on the door, trying to break it down, but Dee and Dum's laughs did not help his circumstances.

"Let me out!" he demanded, pulling into the door handle. How dare you kidnap me! I am the prince! Let me go this instant!!"

"Yes, your highness," Dum obeyed, walking towards the door, but stopped by Dee.

"Yes, your highness," Dee mocked, smacking Dum's head, "Crewel puts us in charge, you dunce! Try to be at least more demanding!"

"Uh! Right! I knew that." Dum laughs.

"You are so brainless," Dee sighs, "Come on, you get over here and I'll get us something to eat."

Amoré stops pulling on the door at the mention of Crewel and slowly backs away from the door in fear. Crewel? As in Divus Crewel? His mother's advisor? That same advisor who was the only one possibly opposed the wedding and always treated him like a child?

Amoré was now livid. "He did this," he whispered, looking around. "I have to get out of here. But they'll notice." He waited for the area to get quiet and looked around every single area, even small areas, until he felt a breeze.

It was a small hole, but it looked like it could be broken up with a big object. He needed one before he could execute his plan.

"How should I open this? Any Ideas, Thorn?" Amoré wondered, checking the size of the hole. "It's manageable and breakable, but what to break it with?" He looked at his shoes and carefully kicked the hole, causing slight damage.

Amoré smirks, "Bingo."

He carefully puts Thorn down, takes off his shoes, and starts to break open the hole for about 30 minutes, but he decides to feign ignorance once Dee and Dum are in earshot. And just in time, too, as he hears the entrance open.

"Have you got him?" He heard Crewel ask and his dogs growling.

"Yep, in there," Dee instructed, "just like you said, boss."

"Good," Crewel sneered. "Keep him there until the wedding's canceled. The queen will be delighted at the sight of her lost son by my hand."

Amoré kept silent, but he wasn't as scared as before. Amoré had found his escape plan, even if it took all night. He should sleep it off now, as the night was finally over. He looks down at Thorn and smiles.

"He won't get away with this, and I will ensure he doesn't. Even if it takes all night..."
💜
The morning peaks through the windows as Serena walks around Amoré's room, looking around, followed by Crewel.

"Amoré? Amoré, my dear?" she whispers, walking around. "Oh, you must be sleeping in again. Dear, I have told you that studying damages your sleep schedule." She walks over to the bed to see it surprisingly empty.

"Maybe he's in the gardens?" Crewel suggested.

"Hmm, he shouldn't be." Serena said, "I didn't hear any ruff housing this morning." Serena walked over to his desk and picked up a note.

"What is that, my queen?" Crewel asked. Serena looked at the note in horror and said, "It says Amoré has run away!"

Crewel dramatically gasps, "You don't say!"

"It says that Amoré ran away because he doesn't want to marry Prince Ruggie! How could he leave us at this time? And how should I tell Queen Edna and her grandson!" Serena sobs again, "That boy!" She quickly runs off, sobbing, leaving Crewel alone with a wicked grin.

Word spread quickly around the castle of Amoré's heinous deed, so it spread to the garden staff.

"Amoré? Running away?" Mathys asked. "We know Amoré enough that he wouldn't run away even when he was in a corner."

"I know," Fortune agreed, "Amoré running away seems so sudden and unlike him."

Fioare looks up at Amoré's room and back at his brothers. "I don't believe it," he announces.

"Fioare, we know you like him," Mathys groaned, "but if the queen says it, it's bound to be true."

"No," Fioare denied. "We wouldn't notice. Amoré would always be silent if he planned something, but for the past few days, he was always ready for a conversation—even when the marriage was hurting him."

"What do you propose what happened?" Fortune asked.

"It's either he did run away," Fioare offered, "or he was kidnapped!"

"What?!" Both brothers gasped.

"Are you sure?!" Fortune gasps, "You must be out of your mind to suggest that!"

"Yeah! You must be in serious denial to even think that!" Mathys added.

"Let's check his room to find out." Fioare sprouts his wings and starts to fly to Amoré's balcony.

"I tell you," Mathys groaned, following Fioare. "He's going insane." Fortune and Mathys landed on the balcony and watched Fioare look around the room for clues.

"I feel it's more of lovesick," Fortune whispered toward Mathys.

Fioare looked at Amoré's work desk and searched for anything unusual but found a familiar smell of...

"Lavender..?" He muttered.

"What?" Fortune walks over, "What do mean lavender?"

"Yeah? What's so special about lavender?"

"It's not flowers, but the scent," Fortune explained. "Whenever he gave us a letter, the scent was more rosey." He looks at a nearly empty container of perfume, "and if Amoré used this for his letter, this would be empty because of how much he uses per letter."

Mathys asks the two, "How many mystery books have you read?"

"That's not the point," Fioare mumbles. "That means Amoré was kidnapped and didn't run away."

"But now we know that," Mathys started, "how do we prove it? Or a better question, how to find him?"

"We should ask around." Fortune suggested.

"And let people know we snuck into the prince's room? No, thank you." Mathys huffed. "They'll think we did something."

"You're right, but we need time so no one can suspect us," Fioare's face lits up, "and I have the perfect distraction! You two, cover for me!'" Fioare flies down from the balcony and starts to get ready to go to town.
💙
"Look at you," Lilia cooed over a napping Silver. "You're just as cute as I adopted you." He put the sewing supplies away.

"I can't believe she would ask such a horrible thing to do. And she wonders why I retire "early." Lilia sighs and walks up to the counter area.

A knock caught his attention, and Fioare knocked on the door. Lilia walks over and opens the door, "Fioare? How are you today?"

"Uh," Fioare stammered, "Look, it's an emergency and I need to speak to you and Silver about something very important."

"Of course," Lilia ushes him in, "What's the matter?"

"It's about Amoré, and I think you and Silver would be a great help." Lilia nods, leads Fioare down to the worker's area, and shakes Silver slowly to awaken him.

"Silver...hey, wake up," Lilia whispers to Silver.

"Mm," Silver yawns and looks over, "What's going on?" He looks over towards Fioare, "You're... Amoré's friend? Am I right?"

"Yes, I am but I need to talk to you."

"What's the matter?" Silver stands up and walks over to him.

"Look, not everyone knows about this," Fioare gulped, "The Prince has gone missing and I need you to...well, pretend to be Amoré for the time being."

Silver gasps, "Are you out of your mind? If someone finds me out, I could be taken to prison or worse killed!"

"I know. Same here for me, but look at you, Silver," Fioare mentioned Silver. "You look exactly like Amoré, even to your eyes, and if this plan works..."

"We can find the real prince in time," Lilia added, "If what you say is true, then we should try."

"Father,"

"Silver, he's right. You look identical to the prince, and with our help, we will guarantee that he will be safe and sound just in time for the wedding. Don't worry, I can come along and say I 'recused' Prince Amore."

Silver thinks momentarily, looks over at the castle, and sighs.

"Alright," he spoke, "Count me in."

Not long after, Silver and Lilia were in the carriage and on their way to the castle. Silver looked over, still nervously, as they approached the castle.

"What was the castle like?"

"Not the fondest of times," Lilia chuckles. "But it's a beautiful palace and has some very royal feeling to it. Not that I complain, she gave me a home and I became her knight."

"As you told me."

"I just worry what would happen if she sees me again?"

"I hope with graditude," Silver smiles as she pets Briar.

"Okay," Fioare opened the carriage door. "Let us be on our way. And hope that any knights aren't on duty right now."

Fioare leads Silver and Lilia past the gardens and into the castle without any knights around, which Silver is relieved by.

Silver looks around the castle, trying to hide it under his hood. "This place is so big, just like Father mentioned. And he was also right..the queen has self-portraits everywhere."

"On tell me about it," Lilia laughed. Fioare nodded in agreement and took Silver to Amoré's room. Silver looked around, but that was short-lived when Fortune tackled and hugged him. "Amoré! You're back!!"

"Uh...!" Silver looks over at Fioare.

"Fortune," Fioare laughs."That's not Amoré." He helps Fortune away from Silver... "This is his look-alike, Silver."

Silver smiles and takes off his hood.

"Oh my," Fortune gasped. You do look awfully like our prince; it's incredible."

"Oh, trust me," Lilia grinned. "Very similar, and that's why we are here."

"You want him to be the prince?" gasped Mathys. "Oh, we are going to prison. Or worse, killed!"

"We know, but I can't stand still knowing that the prince is missing and presumably harmed. If my father can find him in time, I'll do my part to help."

"Alright, you convinced me."

"But we need to start with a little detail," coughed Silver. "My hair, it's a massive giveaway and I don't know how to change it quickly."

"Leave that to us," Fioare grinned.

Fioare smiles and opens a nearby box, revealing a wig similar to Amoré's hair.

Silver takes it and carefully puts it on, "It feels odd, and why would you have this?"

Fioare laughs, "Trust me, even princes have bad hair days."

Silver fixes the hair and makes sure it falls down his back perfectly, trying to hide his silver hair underneath. "Now, we have another small problem," Silver looks at the brothers, blowing a strand of loose hair away. I may look like a prince, but I don't know how to act like one. "

"Leave that to me," Lilia smiled, and he walked away. Moments later, he has a book in his hands.

"It's all here in the Princess's Book of Etiquette," Lilia said, grabbing a book, setting it on a stand, and looking through it.

"Shouldn't it be a Prince's Book of Etiquette?" Silver questioned, looking at the brothers.

"Eh," Mathys sighs, "Don't be surprised about that. We have all known the queen for years. She's pretty shallow."

"Yes, but Let's begin," Lilia spoke, "No nagging, bragging, sweating, fretting, slipping, tripping, slurping, burping, twittering, or frittering allowed. Stay present, stay pleasant, stay proud."

Silver nods and sits down.
💜
To be a prince is to know which spoon to use
To be a prince is a thousand pairs of shoes
💜
Silver gasped at the array of shoes and watched as Fioare helped into the new shoes.

"Is this necessary?" He questioned.
💜
To maintain a regal gain
Leave the parsley on your plate
And be charming but detached and yet amused.
💜
"Well that's fantastic," Silver muttered, folding his arms.

"Hm, he's learning quickly."
💜
To be a prince is to never be confused
💜
Mathys pulls Silver up and forces in the middle, "Ready?"

"For what?!"Silver spoke, now a little annoyed.
💜
Do a plié and never fall
Don't ever stray from protocol
💜
Silver carefully walked with his father as he learned more. He was still trying to keep up, but his new-heeled shoes weren't helping.
💜
All through the day there's just one way you must behave
💜
"Like what?"

"This," Lilia instructed.

As Lilia pushed Silver out of the room, they heard a groan and a thud. They rushed out to see Silver's face planted on the floor, crown a few meters away.

"Must you push me, Father?" Silver muttered.

"Does he need more practice?"Fortune asked. Before Fioare could answer, horses neigh from outside, causing a minor panic.

"No time! The royal family is here." He rushed over, helped Silver, fixed his wig, and put the crown on. "Let's go."

Silver grabs Fioare's arm. "I'm ready."
🧡
"This is outrageous! As soon as our...prince decided to actually introduce himself, your son has gone missing!"

"I'm sure we can find him," Serena replied hopefully, "I sent my best knights to search all over for him."

"Eh, like I said," Ruggie laughs. "He would take desperate measures to end this horrible marriage, as would I."

"Ruggie!" Edna lectured, "Prince Amoré has gone missing and you show no remorse."

"Oh, my apologies," Ruggie sighs, "I didn't mean it in a bad light. I'm just saying I know where he's coming from."

"Unfortunately, you are right, Prince Ruggie," Serena whimpers, "Amoré would do this."

"Don't let his words discourage you, your highness," Crewel spoke, "He's just a spiteful prince."

"I am not that-"

Fioare clears his throat, alerting everyone of his appearance.

"Do you need anything, flower boy?" Crewel hissed, "Especially during an important meeting?"

"Well, I have an announcement to make," Fioare smiles and walks to the side, "I have a man who has claimed to know what happened to Prince Amore."

"And who might that be?" Serena spoke and looked over at Fioare.

"Me, your highness," called a man.

Serena gasped as she saw Lilia walk forward, an old smile on his face. She stumbled a little back and stared at Lilia and everyone else.

"Lilia?" Serena gasped.

"It's a pleasure to see you again, your highness," Lilia bowed at him. "I heard about the dissapearence of your son and I wanted to come by with all of the infomation I could give you."

"I thank you, Lilia," Serena gulped. "Now, what is this information?"

Lilia smiles and looks back at the door. Then, raising his hand, he announces, "Let me present you, Prince Amoré."

Silver walks in and smiles awkwardly. His gaze meets Ruggie's, which is a wrong move as he tripped over his new shoes. He expected to fit the floor, but Prince Ruggie caught Silver. They stared at each other for a moment.

"Are you... okay? " he asked, looking down at Silver.

Silver felt his face heat up, quickly got up, and bowed toward Ruggie. "I am. Thank you, Prince Ruggie."

Silver walks over to Serena. Serena grins and hugs Silver tightly, her eyes tearing up. "My sweet son! You're back!" Serena cried, holding Silver close, "I'm so sorry for everything."

Silver could Lilia roll his eyes in annoyance.

"I should be sorry," Silver said. "I should've talked to you and shouldn't have run away. My people need me, and I almost failed them."

Ruggie looked over, and a slight tint of blush covered his face. 'He's actually cuter than Grandma described,' he thought but shook his head in discouragement. ' What am I thinking? This is still a forced engagement!'

Silver looked over at Crewel, who looked at him quite menacingly. "Ah! It's a splendid day! Our prince has returned," Crewel said with a forced smile. "You look radiant as ever, Amoré."

Silver wanted to step away from Crewel but kept a nice smile, "Thank you.."

Silver saw the dogs behind him, but they looked calm despite Lilia's warning. He recognized one as the dog that had chased Briar and her siblings the day before.

"We should celebrate your return," Serena cheered. Silver gulps and looks down, already feeling guilty about his decision. "Please join us, Lilia!"

"Uh, I will pass your highness," Lilia chuckled. "I still have a job to do, and I will be punished if I am late again."

"Oh, then let one of my cooks give you a meal to go. Crewel could take you back to the village."

"How generous of you," Lilia smiles. "Very well, I suppose one mean shouldn't hurt, hmm?"
💜
"I am quite surprised you have found him." Crewel sneered towards Lilia as he stopped by the village. "How did he even find you?"

"Oh, luck, I guess," Lilia answered. "But I am pleased that our prince has returned safe and sound. But I should be off, now."

"How's your son, Lilia?"

"Oh, perfectly fine. But it is late and he must be asleep at this hour."

Lilia smiled again as he walked away, but Crewel glared deep at him.

"Count your day, Vanrouge."
💗
Amoré panted softly as a big hole appeared in front of him. "Perfect," he whispered and looked down at Thorn. "Let's hope they're asleep, first of all." Amoré rested his head against the door to hear the nauseated snores of his captives.

"Good," Amoré walks back to the hole and gets down, "Goodbye, stupid henchmen, I'm outta here!" He crawls out of the hole and begins to run away from the cottage, disappearing into the

Chapter 4: Act Two: If you love me for me

Chapter Text

Amore sprinted down the trail, his bare feet aching with each step. He knew that even a moment's rest could mean capture, so he pushed on, the fear of being caught driving him forward.

But a moment later, he fell, and a sob was forced out of his mouth. He felt a pain in his leg, and Thorn licked his face, now worried about his new friend.

"I-I'm sorry," Amore sobbed. "I just fell down, I can keep going. But how far can I even go from here? My feet hurt and I don't think I can walk. I was punished for something I didn't want! I didn't want to get married, I didn't want to get kidnapped. Nor anything else."

Amore groaned as he lifted himself, ignoring his feet pain. "Come on, Thorn. Town must be this way and I can finally get help."

Amore sighed and walked forward. He didn't know how long he had walked, but it had been all night as the sun rose. However, he didn't feel like stopping for fear that Crewel's goons were behind him at any moment.

After running for so long, he found an area to rest his legs, and he started to sob, hugging his legs.

He wished he was back home, with the only problems being his mother and the arranged marriage. But if he stayed, would it be better for him? Would it be better to be with a man he never knew or to be kidnapped? Amore couldn't even think about his own answers.

Amore kept sobbing until he felt a hand on his shoulder, comforting him. He saw a familiar man and felt his nerves calm down.

"Sebek," Amore whispered.

"Why are you out here?" Sebek lectured. "The outdoors are no such place for a prince such as yourself."

"Sebek...It's a long story," Amore looked down. "But I can't even process about it."

"What do you mean?"

"....I just got kidnapped by my mother's own advisor!" Amore suddenly cried. "I don't know why it happened! My legs are harmed and bruised, and I feel like what choices do I even have?"

Sebek felt his eyes soften as he carefully decided to pick him up. "Well, the town isn't far from here, and I'm sure Lilia and I can help your wounds."

"..Thank you," Amore cried again, holding Thorn.

"It's not a problem, and rest. It may tale a while."

Amore nodded and yawned, snuggling into Sebek before drifting into sleep.
💙
"Amore? You barely touched your food," Serena spoke, watching Silver stare at his food.

"I just don't have it in me to eat, Mother," Silver gulped. "I'm still quite shaken up."

"Oh, I understand, my darling," Serena smiles. "But you need to eat. You will need it as the prince will come by tomorrow."

"Tomorrow...already?" Silver stammered. "But I..."

"Are not ready? Please, Amore, you are the epitome of ready. He'll adore you, like he did before. You are beautiful, so why would the prince not marry you?"

"...many things," Silver whispered.

"Oh, don't worry, my darling, you will be perfect, just like how I raised you." Serena grinned, eating her soup.

Silver sighed as he looked at his reflection in his soup, already feeling dread in his stomach. He wasn't Amore; how long can he play it before he gets caught?
🩷
Amore yawned as the sun's rays hit his eye. He groaned as he carefully got up, shielding his eyes from the sun, trying to remember where he was, even though it took time for his vision to clear up.

"Madam Eliza's basement?" He whispered, getting up. "...Oh, Sebek...he carried me here."

Amore took Thorn off his lap and set him down on the bed before walking to the workshop. He saw Lilia cleaning some dresses and humming to himself.

"Mr. Lilia?"

Lilia turns and smiles at Amore. "Good morning, Amore. How's your legs?"

"Pretty better," Amore answered, walking forward. "I mean, I can walk, so that's something."

"That's the start," Lilia grinned and walked over to the table, presenting his little breakfast. "Sorry if it's a little cold."

"It's not a problem," Amore smiles and eats the soggy egg. "I'm just happy to eat something nice after getting kidnapped. It's giving me some comfort I suppose."

"I suppose it does," Lilia acknowledged. "I understand why. But there is something that you should know before you start any plans."

"What is it?"

"I may have done something illegal,"

"It can't be that illegal? Right?"

Amore went silent, realizing a crucial detail was missing from the dress shop.

"Where's Silver?" Amore asked, looking around. "I thought he'd be more happy to see me."

"That's the illegal part," Lilia sighed. "In order to find you and keep peace at village, Silver had decided to take your place."

"...In what sense, Lilia?" Amore slowly asked, getting concerned.

Lilia paused for a moment before continuing.

"As you. He's pretending to be you at the palace."

"...Are you serious? If Silver has been found out, my mother will not be forgiving," gasped Amore, now panicking. "Oh, Silver better know how to be me, or else this will be a disaster!"

"Oh, I taught him everything he knows," Lilia said. "The queen is none the wiser, Amore, and that'll give us time to learn who did this to you and I do have a suspect in mind."

Amore looked at Lilia, his hands shaking. "I found out already. It's Divus Crewel, my mother's advisor."

"Oh, then I don't need to tell you more, but if we accuse him now, he'll do anything to flip that back onto us," Lilia sighed. "I know the man since my knightly hood, and he's good at rearranging a tale to fit his view. He can make me look bad if we go to him now."

"You're right," Amore agreed. "Crewel is someone I can admit is very intelligent and a proud advisor to my mother, always double-checking her decisions. But he's someone that I know had bad intentions, and I had a feeling I was some sort of scheme, but I thought he wanted to woe me so he can get the throne."

"That's is the plan," Lilia confirmed. "He wanted to woe Serena, even though she was married, but I guess he never gave him."

"But what can we do?"

"Hmm, I do have an idea," Lilia's eyes sparked happily. "I suggest we spy on him. I can keep track of when he leaves the palace and where he goes. I know that man, and if he's doing this to get the riches, then we can catch him in the act."

"Hm, he always does sneak out when 9:00 exactly hits, his two dogs always following him around."

"Hm, that means he's hiding something from the queen," Lilia suggested. "If he's willing to sneak out, what is he hiding?"

"He wanted to hide me so I couldn't marry the prince," Amore gasped in realization. "He didn't want me to know it was him. He planned this to..."

"To make you think you saved him and would marry him out of gratitude." Lilia finished. "...Well, that's one convoluted plan, and maybe would've worked if he didn't expose himself."

"Yes and now with Silver in my place, he must think Silver...or well, me, escaped."

"And now will think of a backup plan."

"Exactly. If he doesn't think of one, I will still marry Prince Ruggie at the end of the weak."

"Splendid thinking, Amore, and now here's the tricky part. How can we spy on him without him noticing."

"Then we have all day to think about it, Lilia, and maybe while I am here, I can help you."

"I hope you can handle it then," Lilia chuckles. "Thodr needles are sharp, and you will be covered in bandages after an hour, I'll tell you."
💙
Silver groaned as he got up, the sun's rays beaming through the window, feeling the lush bedding beneath him.

He realized where he was now.

"Oh, I thought I was dreaming," yawned Silver. "Now I realize that I'm not. Oh, I wish I didn't accept this, but I'm doing for Amore, come on Silver, you can do this, even without your father."

Silver jumped a little as Briar started to bark happily, jumping up and trying to get Silver's attention.

"Shhh, Briar," Silver chuckles as he grabs Briar mid-jump. "We need to act like we belong here. I know that it's hard but we got to do this, but I can see that you are such morning person."

A knock on the door made Silver rush for his wig, and Briar quickly jumped back onto her.

"I-In a moment!"

"Amore, again? I suppose I can't change that about you," laughed the Maid. "You're always so frazzled in the mornings, but I got you some breakfast."

Silver sighed and rushed back onto the bed, trying to look presentable. "Come in."

The Maid opened the door and smiled. "Good morning, Your Highness. I heard a dog earlier, should I be calling the royal dog whsiper?"

"Dog? No, of course not. I just adopted a sweet cat and I didn't want to tell mother yet."

"Well, I suppose that makes sense," The Maid chuckled and patted Silver's hair, setting the breakfast tray on his plate. "Always so sweet, huh? You should eat."

"..All of this?" gulped Silver. "Are you sure? There's so many stuff here and I can't think of what to eat first."

"Well, hmm, you are right, that's a hard question."

"How about this? I can give you some." Silver recommended.

"Your highness, that's oddly kind of you, but I surely can't."

"No, go on, help yourself," Silver smiled and gave the Maid a couple of pieces of bread.

The Maid tilts her head but takes the bread with a smile. "Well, how about the bath? Do you want the bath salts, lavenders scented bubbles or rose scented bubbles?"

"Oh, how about everything?" Silver recommended eating his breakfast.

The Maid gave a simple shrug and left the room, leaving Silver alone with breakfast and feeding some to his lovely cat.

Silver sighed in relief, eating his breakfast.
🧡
Ruggie groaned as the carriage rode closer and closer to the castle. He had to, but he wished he had a say about it. His grandma was happy, and he couldn't hurt her feelings.

But his mind wondered about the seamster he met the other day. He couldn't help but remember his beautiful singing voice, his soft hands when he paid him, and how his heart sank seeing the bruises and cuts on it. He knew what digging through to get what he wanted was like. He saw how his grandma tried to rebuild the kingdom after his father left and that things never leave you, even when you want to erase them from your mind.

So, maybe he can give this a shot.

When he entered the castle doors to the throne room, he thought he would see Amore, but it was Serena, sighing to herself.

"Is something that matter?" Edna asked.

"Amore is taking a bath," Serena sighed. "I know he loves his bath times, but I wished he was a little more aware of the time."

"Oh, I get it," Edna chuckled. "I had to get this lazy hyena out of bed this morning myself."

"Gran!" Ruggie huffed. "Not to the queen."

Serena laughed and got up from her throne room. "Oh, that did make me feel better."

"Ruggie, be a dear and get Amore for us?" Edna asked.

"Are you sure?" Ruggie sighed but couldn't argue when his grandma was in a good mood, so he decided to go up towards Amore's room, not really happy about it.
💙
Silver sighed softly as he rested in the tub. It was nice to just rest his feet. It was so lovely and warm that he wanted to take a nice nap before getting ready for the day, but he didn't really have to, as he heard strange noises from Briar.

"What's wrong, Briar?" Silver asked with concern. "Are you sick? Something in your throat?"

Briar made to make those strange noises again, but this time, it was clear what she was trying to do.

"Wait a minute, are you trying to meow?"

Briar tries to meow one more time, but she barks. Her ears flopped down in sadness, and Silver quickly went to her, petting her head.

"Oh, dear.."

💙
I can see it when you're feeling low
You can't hide that from me
You're no status quo Calico
So why keep trying to be?
'Cause you're more than that
You're a doggish cat
I wish you could see the you I see
💙
Briar tries to meow again, but it turns into a bark.

"No, that doesn't fit you," Silver sighed and smiled at her.
💙
I say if you bark, celebrate it
Make your mark, serenade it
Noah's ark should've had a cat like you
💙
Silver smiled and grabbed Briar, petting her tiny tummy and watching her eyes glow happily.
💙
And if what you are is a strange you
Doesn't mean you should change you
Only means you should change your point of view
💙
"Eh, Prince Amore?" Ruggie carefully opened the door, but what he heard was a beautiful melody filling the air.
💙
Hey, feline, you fetch just fine
To thine own self be true
Your bow wow's the cat's meow
It's how I know you're you
💙
Silver giggled as Briar jumped, trying to grab the remaining bubbles as he carefully adjusted his bathroom. He knew Brair was slowly starting to understand his newfound love for her, but he still wanted to enforce it.
💙
You don't need the bows or tiara
Bid your woes sayonara
Trust your nose 'cause it knows the way to go
When you chase your tail, you're enchanting
Spirits sail when you're panting
When you wail, you're a rover Romeo
💙
"... so familiar," Ruggie whispered as he closed the door. He still heard the beautiful song echo behind him and felt his heart be pulled in multiple directions. Such a sweet melody about acceptance made him weak in the knees.
💙
There is not one hair of you
That I would rearrange
I love you the way you are
And that will never change
That will never change
💙
Briar barked happily as Silver's nose nuzzled her.

"That's my girl," He laughed, holding her close.

"Uh...excuse me," Ruggie coughed, causing Silver to jump. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude, but I was told that you were late, so I had... to get you. Sorry if I scared you."

"N-no, but I didn't know I was late!" gasped Silver as he quickly rushed behind a curtain. "I...I just got carried away, that's all."

"I know," Ruggie chuckled. "You have a lovely singing voice by the way. It's very angelic, and I know I had heard that voice before."

"You..you have?"

"Yes, actually. At a dress shop," Ruggie answered.

Silver felt his face blush as he remembered seeing the prince last week, and now he felt worried.

"Don't worry, I'll be right down," Silver spoke, getting back into Amore's room and slamming the door. "Oh, dear. What am I going to do?"

After a while, Silver was quickly dressed, and the wig perfectly placed on his head. He looked at himself, brushing the wig to look presentable, just trying to keep his cool.

"Your highness," hummed Crewel as he entered the room. "You are late and your mother is requesting you."

"I know, I know," Silver groaned. "I'm trying to hurry up."

"Always so hasty now, hmm?" Crewel teased, taking a bit of Silver's wig's hair. "Is that how you speak to the man that has been helping your mother for years now?"

Silver gulped. "N-No."

Silver's eyes turned to see two Dalmatian dogs who stared at him. However, Silver wasn't so worried as he started to walk away, passing both Penny and Polly and ignoring them.

"Strange," he whispered. "You girls would've growled at him when he made eye contact. What's change?"

Crewel watched as the prince walked away, his mind now curious.

Silver rushed down the stairs and gasped as he saw everyone, including the pianist, at the piano, waiting for him.

"Sorry I'm late," Silver gulped. "But what is happening?"

"Oh, you won't believe it!" Serena cheered. "Prince Ruggie wanted to sing a beautiful deut with you, cause he heard you singing. I never knew you sang, Amore."

"It's more of a hobby, I promise you," gulped Silver as Serena brought him closer towards Ruggie.

Silver awkwardly looked towards Ruggie, who looked back and smiled. "You don't have to be nervous. I can tell you that you have a majestic voice, and you don't need to hide it, now do you?"

Silver gulped as the pianist started to play.

"Sing, darling." Serena urged.

Silver took a deep breath and started to sing the only song that he could only think of at the moment.

Once, a lass met a lad
"You're a gentle one," said she
"In my heart, I'd be glad
If you loved me for me
You say your love is true
And I hope that it will be"

Everyone watched in amazement as they heard Silver's beautiful voice, which rang delightfully throughout the ballroom. Everyone couldn't help but be speechless as Ruggie took his hand, carefully leading him toward the ballroom.
🧡
I'd be sure, if I knew
That you loved me for me
🧡
Silver gasped as he pulled away, leading Ruggie towards the garden, trying to hide amongst the roses that surrounded him, but Ruggie always found him every corner, just making Silver blush and laugh. He couldn't help it when Ruggie grabbed his hand again.

Will I be the one you choose?
Can you tell my heart is speaking?

Everyone who was watching knew that Silver and Ruggie were slowly falling in love. Ruggie even played with Brair, teaching her how to play fetch. Silver couldn't help it again, but he smiled, watching how Ruggie cared for his new kitten, even petting her stomach.

Ruggie had a new appreciation for the prince; it was odd. But it must've been true love if even he couldn't find something to complain about.

They somehow rewound in the ballroom, dancing as they sang to each other again. Silver kept looking down but always looked back up at Ruggie once more and was surprised to see a beautiful blue rose in his hand. Silver was speechless, but he carefully took it.

Silver didn't know why, but he kissed Ruggie, one that Ruggie happily returned, holding each other close. It was until a surprise bark from Brair snapped him out of it.

"Oh, I'm sorry I should've asked," Silver breathed softly.

"Don't worry about it," Ruggie blushed. "Just, gave a guy a little warning before something like that. Not that I mind."

Silver blushed madly, and Ruggie laughed again.

"I... I think we're moving too quickly!" Silver immediately screamed, rushed out of the room, and crushed down onto the gardens, covering his face.

He looked around before taking off his wig and saw his reflection in the pond.

"Ugh, what am I doing!?" Silver groaned. "Amore is still missing, and here I am! I'm in love with the prince he's supposed to marry, and I kissed him! Kissed him! I should've seen this coming.."

Silver sighed again and put back his wig on. "...I hope father can handle this."
🩷
"Almost done," Amore laughed.

But when Lilia and Sebek looked up, they saw that one sleeve was longer than the other, and Amore flushed in embarrassment.

"Sorry," Amore sighed. I'm still learning the whole dress business here. You don't have to stare."

"Sorry, but you do learn more than Sebek. He always forgot the colors," Lilia teased. "You are alright, Amore."

"Hush it, Lilia!" Sebek huffed angrily.

"Sorry, but you know that I adore teasing you," Lilia laughed. "I always had, and you thought I haven't stopped?"

"No, you don't," Sebek sighed. "But I do not know what expected from you, Lilia. But it's nice to know that even during the circumstances, you still like to crack jokes."

"As always," Lilia grinned.

"Oh, that reminds me," Amore chuckled, grabbing some fabric. "Lilia, I heard that you were one of Mother's proudest knights. What made you retire so early?"

"Well," Lilia hesitated. "I was actually her husband's knight, and even before that, I was a knight in a faraway kingdom, but I chose to transfer as I owed the king for saving my life. Your father, Amore, was a great king but a much kinder man. No one would even look at Faes, but he always offered a hand to those who needed him, especially the poor people without much many."

"Really?"

"Oh yes. Your father made everyone smile, and the riches he found within the forbidden caves all those years ago made it better. I remember that he found so many gems, gold, and other things. He made the kingdom wealthy and use that wealth to help the others. But of course, good things must come to an end and he passed away and I promised him to continue to help with the kingdom. But before that, he had you...and Silver."

"Yes, he did told me about that but he didn't really expand on it..." Amore gulped.

"Yes, and he adored you both, but as time went on, your mother turned into someone that I had barely recognized. She was spiteful for some reason, and she hated Silver, but I thought it was because of the effects of childbirth, which I understand. But after your father passed, it seemed like she couldn't have the care nor energy for a second child, and I didn't like it. I kept looking, and silent, so I decided to do something about it, and you might've guessed that I took him. I took Silver, and hid away, breaking my oath and betraying the queen. I couldn't even make much money because of my fatherhood, so I, unfortunately, stole from Madam Eliza, and that's how I ended up being here. It's a little strange, but I am still grateful that I did that and if I didn't, who knew what would happen."

"You...You did such a great thing," Amore stammered after silence. "My mother wouldn't even appreciate you even if you stayed and you stood by your own principals."

"Thanks," Lilia smiled. "But don't worry about me. I am quite used to this lifestyle, and I have lived to appreciate it, even though Madam Eliza can be a handful."

"Hmm, it's a given that Lilia can adapt to anything," Sebek agreed. "Even the people he surrounds himself with. "

"Hey, I'm only getting older here, and I want to live my life." Lilia pouted.

"We know."
🩷
Amore and Sebek walked side by side, a little nervous. It was the brink of night, and Amore couldn't sleep, but Sebek joined to protect him. It was so awkward.

"So, Sebek, you are a knight in training?" Amore asked. "I mean, I heard you mention it once and I couldn't stop thinking about it."

"Yes, my grandfather inspired me, and I decided to become a knight to my lord. His name is Malleus, and he was from the faraway kingdom Lilia mentioned. He worked for his parents before their unfortunate passing."

"My condolences," Amore sighed. "I understand what it's like to lose a parent, and I am happy that Lilia told me so much about him. My heart hurts for your prince, and I guess, by extension, yourself."

"You don't have to worry about me," Sebek affirmed. "I am simply there to become a protector for my life and my life alone. But if you did ask, I would also protect you as well."

Amore blushed and slowly went closer to him. "Thanks. I do think I don't need it all the time, but I am much more safer when I am with you."

Sebek felt his face heat up a little. "Ah, I thank you, your highness."

"You can simply call me Amore. I prefer it that way."

As they continued to walk, almost hand in hand, both were a little nervous, but Amore was happy to be with someone else, with a new face to meet.

But Amore gasped as he saw Crewel, followed by Polly and Penny, heading towards the closed-off minds that Lilia also mentioned. Against his better judgment, he rushed over to the cave, keeping out of sight.

"Is that?"

"Yes, Divus Crewel, my mom's advisor and my kidnapper," Amore whispered. "He must know something about these mines; maybe that's why he was sneaking off."

"Should we tell someone?" Sebek whispered back.

"No, I need to know what he wants," Amore fumed. I want him to pay, but I know I can't."

Sebek heard ruffling behind him and becoming well aware, grabbed his dagger and kept Amore close. He saw two figures in the darkness, but with the dagger, he managed to see who they were and pulled Amore away from the two potato sacks that appeared out of nowhere.

"You..." gasped Amore.

"Oh? Do I hear someone familiar that should be in bed?'

Amore and Sebek turned around to see Crewel maliciously grinning at them. "Ah, such a shame that you had to follow me, Amore, but you always had such a righteous view, just like your pathetic father. Alas, I cannot stop you, but now I can officially act out my plan. With you officially gone, Prince Ruggie will actually leave. But knowing him it would be impossible after the beautiful moment you two had."

Amore stammered, trying to keep his composure, especially since he didn't know what Crewel was talking about. Crewel laughed.

"I knew it! That Amore in the castle was fake! It makes my job much more easier!"

Sebek and Amore gasped as Dum and Dee ambushed and held them tight.

"Hey! Let us go!" Sebek ordered.

"Ah, ah, ah, you are both coming with me."

Crewel laughed as Sebek and Amore were forced to enter the mines against their will, hoping that some good fortune would help them.
