Work Text:

It was late when Jelpax arrived back at the academy from the history trip he had been on. He'd sent a message on the Deca group chat to see if anyone was still awake, but hadn't received a response. Not that he particularly wanted to talk to them. The trip had left him very socially drained. There was only one person that the message had really been intended for. He'd only been away for three days, and kept telling himself that there was really no reason for him to have missed Drax as much as he had done.

He opened the dorm room door slowly to avoid waking his roommate, and threw his bag down beside his desk. It wouldn't hurt to wait until the next day to unpack it. Despite the late hour, he wasn't tired. Still feeling the buzz from being able to see so many artifacts from the Dark Times up close. He decided to read for a while before settling down to sleep. He changed out of his robes into pajamas, and immediately felt the chill of the room after doing so. He reached for the hoody which he had left on the back of his desk chair, only to find that it wasn't there. Not wanting to disturb Drax, he left the light off while rummaging through his stuff, wondering if he had tidied it away without remembering.

"Hey," said a soft voice from behind him, thick with sleep.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you,"

"Nah, you didn't," Jelpax knew that he was lying. Drax rubbed his eyes and sat up. "How was it,"

"Yeah, it was great. I'll tell you more in the morning," he didn't want to infodump on his friend when he was very obviously tired, so turned away and returned to his search.

"Have you lost something?"

"M-hm. My hoodie,"

"Here," Drax pulled off the green hoodie that he had been wearing. "Sorry, I wasn't expecting you back until tomorrow,"

"Did something happen to yours?"

"No. It just smells of you," he murmured, partially hoping that Jelpax wouldn't fully hear what he said.

"You can borrow it if you like. I've got others,"

"No need. Now I've got the real thing back," Jelpax took a seat next to him on the bed, and wrapped an arm around his friend. Drax immediately snuggled into his side. "I've missed you,"

"I've missed you too,"

"Stay. Please,"

"Okay,"

Drax shifted over towards the wall, allowing Jelpax to lay down next to him on the bed. It was too small for two people, but neither minded the closeness. Drax snuggled into the crook of Jelpax's neck and draped his arm over the others waist. Jelpax moved his hand to stroke Drax's hair, earning a contented sigh from him. The sound made Jelpax's heart melt, and if he wasn't so tired he'd be embarrassed about the way his face turned pink. "Would it be weird if I said I'd been sleeping with your hoodie in my bed?" Asked Drax quietly, less shy in his tiredness.

"Not at all. I'd have done the same,"

"You're my best friend, you know that Pax?"

"I had my suspicions. Didn't think you'd let just anyone in your bed,"

"We should do this more often. It's warm. Comfy," Jelpax chuckled. Drax was obviously still tired, he was starting to make less and less sense.

"If you want to," Jelpax shifted slightly to hold Drax closer to him. "Goodnight, darling,"

"Night,"

Jelpax soon heard Drax's breathing slow, indicating that he had fallen asleep. He carefully pulled a blanket up over the pair of them. Drax stirred slightly, but didn't wake. It didn't take long before he too drifted to sleep. "Love you," he murmured, pressing a small kiss to the top of Drax's head.

------------

Drax was the first to awaken the next morning. He blinked slowly and rubbed his eyes. The first thing he noticed was that he was cuddled into something, which definitely was not just a pillow. He lifted his head slightly. Jelpax was laying next to him, still fast asleep. Drax felt himself blush, remembering the events of the previous night. He internally face palmed. Why on Gallifrey had he thought this was a good idea? Still, he couldn't help a small smile crossing his face. Jelpax really was beautiful. A few of his ginger curls fell in front of his eyes, and Drax had to fight the urge the brush them back. Drax was still admiring his friend when Jelpax's eyes began to open.

"Mornin," he said with a yawn, rubbing his eyes. "You been awake for long?"

"No," Drax shook his head. "Do you want to get up?"

"Not yet," Jelpax opened his arms, inviting Drax to move closer. He did so, hoping that Jelpax's lack of glasses would somehow render him unable to notice his blush. "Wanna skip first period and hear all about the history trip?"

"Jelpax? Suggesting skipping class? Whatever's become of the world?" Drax reached up to ruffle his hair. "As long as we get to stay like this,"

"Of course darling," Jelpax kissed Drax's cheek. Drax smiled, making himself comfortable in his friends arms.

Notes:

I was half asleep when I posted this and did not proof read it properly, but the academy era fandom is so starved for content I'm sure you'll take anything so here you are. Also this was heavily inspired by The Deca series by Barnable everyone go and read it if they haven't it's very good and the sole reason I ship these two.
