Work Text:

A thread of Mills and the Donuts he might encounter/be marooned with. Non-canon because I hadn't seen the movie when I wrote a lot of these.

Mills - sad astronaut. Favorite line, "shit!" If there's a hole to fall into, a bug to crawl on him(not a fan), or an injury to be had, he's your man. Really good at finding quick sand.

Caleb - poor traumatized tech. He tries to put on a brave face but in the end he just wants Mills to wrap him up and keep him warm and safe. Mills doesn't know what to do with him at first, until he realizes he likes snuggles and that Caleb is really warm when the temps drop.

Andrew - already stranded in the land of dinosaurs when Mills arrives. His horse was spooked by a rattler and ran off a cliff, but he woke up here. Isn't sure he's not in hell, or at least limbo. Mills is appalled at Andrew's idea of 'civilization' that he's missing. Andrew tells him that he's been spoiled by luxury; he's used to having someone start his fire in the morning, and break the ice off the bowl he washes his face from. Luckily, it's not that cold here. Also, Mills isn't sure what a horse is; it seems unreliable compared to a ship. But Andrew does has the skills to treat Mills' injuries, and can find food, start a fire, and cook over it.

Monty - he was sent on the expedition because no one can look at a situation and figure out how to manipulate it to (the government's) advantage quite like him. He's a control freak, so he's scrambling to maintain it by manipulating Mills in anyway he can. Mills isn't naive, he knows what Monty is up to. But he's also super hot, so he just might let him when he tries to seduce him . . .

Sam - joined the expedition because the only options were either control himself, or kill everyone. It turns into he and Mills protecting each other: Mills protecting Sam from the dinosaurs, and Sam protecting Mills from Sam.

Thomas - the perfect person to get stranded on prehistoric Earth with. He has experience rigging death-traps for annoying, blood-thirsty creatures, and with his gardening skills they won't die of starvation. Or boredom, eating dino meat for eternity. Domestic and bossy is exactly what Mills needs to ground himself.

Gabriel - with no one ordering him to kill anyone he's actually very sweet. He saves Mills by shooting a raptor, so Mills let's him carry the gun sometimes--since Gabe's is useless once the bullets are gone. They whisper beautiful words and promises into each other's ears in the dark nights.

Hux - no matter how many pieces the ship was in, he would engineer something that would get them in contact, and get them off that planet. Mills wonders JUST HOW MANY KNIVES DOES HUX HAVE??!? Too bad there was only room for one in the pod, guess they'll have to squeeze up.

Tim - I haven't seen About Time, but how could time re-do's not be useful in the land of surprise attacks? Mills just has to keep poor Tim alive. Keeping him Very close at night seems like a good start. Unfortunately, Tim is just as good at finding trouble--& quick sand--as Mills is 😬

Faraday - if he was in 65 it would have been an incredibly short movie. He simply would have given the dinos 'a look' and they would have been his to do with as he pleased. Mills finds himself following at a cautious distance as Faraday scouts out his preferred resting place, with a troup of various smaller dinos creeping around his shadow. Mills has no idea wtf is going on, but there's something incredibly compelling about that man . . .

(for @gateway2thebest) Shergar - Mills doesn't always understand what he's talking about. At first he almost seems delighted at the fact that nothing they're dealing with has a higher level of consciousness than 'hunt, kill, eat'. But the longer they're stuck there, and the more attuned they get to their surroundings, the more Shergar becomes convinced that perhaps he can predict the attacks. Mills argues that they've just learned the little noises the dinos make when they're stalking, or the tiniest snap of a twig. Shergar falls deeper into an obsession that he's just like his father, and is torn between the idea that he truly is psychic--or just losing his mind completely. Mills desperately tries to keep him grounded, so he's not left by himself. Again.

Ash - Mills has hopes that the dinos won't recognize an android as food. Unfortunately they think Ash is as much food as Mills, and they don't recognize humans either. Basically, if it moves they eat it. However, Ash does have superior eyesight, hearing, reflexes and strength. And he doesn't need to sleep, which gives Mills a much needed break. Ash can also interface with Mills' boundary alarms, so he gets a heads-up when something is creeping around. Only, something is always creeping around, so while he's out investigating one, another finds Mills asleep . . . Ash is drawn back by gunfire to find that Mills has been dragged into the underground cavern. He uses his night vision and strength to find Mills and kill the dino. After he saves Mills, and Mills wires him back together, they realize they can be more for each other than just survival tools 🖤🧡

Levin - like Captain Henry, Levin would pre-date Mills' arrival. He's shocked not only by the unknown technology, but by finding another human being among the wreckage. He takes Mills back to his camp, patches him up, and brings him back to life. Mills doesn't seem to speak Russian, so communication is difficult. Levin marvels at the things Mills shows him on what's left of the ship. Some of them are very handy in protecting them, and the gun is like none Levin has ever seen. But the crap that Mills calls food? Levin will stick to what he can salvage from the bushes, and dig from the dirt, and the smaller dinos he can trap and kill 😝 (yes, I know he's probably not even speaking English. I just thought enjoyed the communication dynamic. Imagine the expression Levin makes when he realizes he's supposed to eat *that*)

(tw si) Moon - Moon is quiet, withdrawn. He's missing several fingers, and Mills gets the impression he's had a rough life. Watching Moon being apathetic, or downright reckless and not caring if he lives or dies shakes Mills from his own suicidal thoughts. He can't help wanting to protect someone so beautiful and delicate, especially from themselves. He makes his current goal keeping him alive, and giving him some reason to keep on living. The dark, quiet nights are the best time for them both. Together they find some peace and solace close to each other, the sounds of a non-stop life and death dance going on around them.

Thomas Burberry - Thomas is incredibly driven. No matter what situation he's in, the dog-eat-dog world of high fashion, or the hungry dino-around-every-tree in the jungle, he's determined to come out on top. He may not have the technical skills of Mills, but his brain is brilliant and non-stop. Whatever he wants, he pursues relentlessly, including Mills himself.

Techie - at first Techie is in shock, utterly unable to help keep them going, much less keep himself alive. Mills finds himself scrambling to figure out what to do to keep them safe and moving, and how to get Techie to do anything. However, once Techie shakes himself out of it, Mills discovers he's brilliant, and can make the most lifeless piece of equipment do whatever he needs it to. He also discovers under the hesitant, anxious exterior, is an incredibly passionate man who isn't afraid to make his desires known, regardless how limited their space at night 👀👀

Stensland - I struggled a little fitting him into the scenario. But then it dawned on me--damn if he wouldn't try and make the best of the situation. His high-flying condor would quickly be replaced by a pterodactyl (he thought about using the mighty t-rex, but dammit those arms). He would be just as accident-prone as Mills, so they would spend as much time saving each other as fighting dinos.

Blue - Mills recognizes the look in Blue's eyes after the wreck, and the first time they're ambushed by dinos. He knows war trauma when he sees it. He worries that Blue won't be able to hack it--until they see Koa attacked for the first time. Blue springs into action before even Mills and single-handedly takes down a raptor. They take to sleeping with her sandwiched in between them, or neither one can sleep.

Doofus - While Mills does get tired of hearing how much Doofus misses his best friend in the whole world (any world), and he's not much help in the self defense department (or cooking, finding shelter or repairing literally anything), Mills has to admit that Doofus's unfailing positive attitude is also incredibly annoying. But he can't find it on his heart to hate the guy, or even truly dislike him🤭

Trampis - having a football/soccer dude could be an asset. He's in shape, and can punt a smaller dino into the stratosphere. He entertains Mills at night by trying to explain football and rugby rules to him (sorry, I found Nothing online about this show, so I'm taking major liberties).

Bernard (Boy Eats Girl au, the zombies are part of everyday life now and B survived) - Mills initially despairs of his luck when he first realizes how much peril they're in. Bernard seems like a nice enough kid, but kind of useless. It isn't until he takes out the first dino with a piece of metal from the ship that Mills has hope. He wonders what the fuck kind of planet the kid comes from when he starts describing the monsters he's used to dealing with. Wth is a zombie??

Rodney - At first Mills is stymied by Rodney. Instead of being filled with dread and hopelessness in their situation, he's seems energized. It isn't until he learns Rodney's fate as an organ donor that he understands. No wonder he's thrilled, he gets a second lease on life, regardless of how imperiled. At least here he can defend himself from the ones coming for his parts. (Thank you to @gateway2thebest for suggesting a bunch of these!!☺️☺️
