Chapter Text
Sophie was determined to make it to her brunch meeting on time. Her plan was foolproof.
Get out of bed
Take a shower
Get dressed
Leave
Arrive at meeting
The plan was simple enough, though it didn't account for the one hindrance she should have:
Her girlfriend.
Sophie had already rescheduled the meeting once before due to an unforeseen Bat emergency, though, if she were honest with herself, she had been dreading attending the meeting in the first place.
She found the need to have it at all archaic and patriarchal in nature, however, she found herself…not needing the approval, per se, but she wanted it. For peace of mind, and all that.
Thus, the plan.
Only, Ryan was making it very difficult to complete task one which was to get out of bed.
Ryan knew what she was doing, too, with the way she straddled Sophie's lap and covered her breasts with her hands, kneading them gently. Taking Sophie's bottom lip in hers and tugging at it with her teeth, she knew exactly what she was doing and what else she needed to do to keep Sophie in bed with her instead of attending some random meeting on a Saturday morning when she could've been laid up with her.
"Ryan…" Sophie moaned but it came out more like a whine. "I've got to go. I'm going to be late."
"Do you really ?" Ryan asked as she tweaked one of Sophie's nipples causing her to hiss. She took advantage of Sophie's opened mouth and kissed her deeply before bending down to soothe the nipple with her mouth.
Sophie nodded quickly, wanting desperately to believe that Ryan's warm mouth around her nipple wasn't doing it for her.
"Are you sure?"
Sophie shook her head no as Ryan reached behind her and slipped her fingers beneath the waistband of Sophie's panties. Ryan laughed, her fingers all too distracting as they stroked Sophie to completion.
Ryan finally allowed her out of the bed when Sophie squeezed her thighs together and trapped Ryan's hand between them.
Task one: complete.
Taking a shower should've been an easy task to complete, but then Ryan decided to join her and…Sophie was distracted again, but to be fair, she dropped to her knees on her own. Worth it.
Task two: complete…eventually.
Task three, getting dressed, was easy.
Task four, leaving, was not.
She blamed Ryan, again, because yet again, her girlfriend knew exactly what she was doing when she asked Sophie to rub lotion on her back. Sophie was now slightly wrinkled, but Ryan was moisturized, and…here she was completing Task five.
She hurried into the restaurant and found the other party to her meeting already there and waiting for her.
"My apologies for being late," she said as she sat down at the secluded table.
"Only 40 minutes, but who's counting?"
"You, obviously," Sophie replied as she stared at Jada. 3 years of dating Ryan and the woman across from her still grated on her nerves. Maybe it was because despite the many, many times she and Ryan requested she knock before entering their home, the woman never did. Or maybe it was because she still hadn't quite forgiven her for turning Jordan into a human popsicle. Either way, she would do her best to ignore all of that, because…well, reasons.
The women ordered and made small talk before Sophie decided to get right to the reason for calling the meeting.
Or, she tried to, at least.
She cleared her throat and straightened her posture in her chair. Jada raised a brow in response and sat her glass of wine down in front of her, leaned back in her chair and said,
"Let me guess, my daughter was the cause of your tardiness and the reason you've requested to meet with me?"
Annoyed at the interruption, Sophie began to inform Jada of why she wanted to meet with her when Jada pointed to just beneath her jaw and said, "you've got a bit of lipstick right…"
Sophie's eyes widened and she opened the camera app on her phone to see a lipstick print right under her jaw: Ryan's last attempt to keep her home instead of going to her meeting.
"Fucking Ryan…" she muttered under her breath as she accepted the kleenex Jada held out to her and wiped the lipstick away.
"Isn't that why we're here?"
"Excuse me?" Sophie looked up sharply with the kleenex mid air.
"We're here because-"
"Okay, no. I mean, yes, but-"
"Sophie," Jada said, stopping Sophie's attempt at dispelling her very accurate assessment. "Have you chosen a ring yet?"
Sophie's jaw dropped and Jada found that she resembled a fish with the way her mouth opened and closed repeatedly.
"How did you know?" Sophie asked when she learned how to form words again.
"Honey, you would rather meet with Victor Zsasz at Arkham than voluntarily spend time with me."
"I'm here, aren't I?"
"And that's because of your love for Ryan which is greater than your hate for me."
"I don't hate you," Sophie began and Jada leveled her with a stare, "...anymore. And, no, I haven't found a ring. I've been looking, but nothing seems to be the right fit."
Jada reached for her purse next to her and pulled out an age-worn box, placing it on the table in front of Sophie. Sophie eyed Jada as she grabbed the box and opened it, viewing the vintage art deco style diamond engagement ring inside.
"This ring was given to my grandmother and has been passed down to each first born daughter. When I gave Ryan up, I never thought I'd be able to pass the ring on…"
Sophie pulled the ring out of the box and studied it. The ring appeared delicate, but felt strong in her hand, very much like the woman she yearned to call her wife.
"You don't have to use it, but I'd be honored if you did."
"It's perfect. She'll love it."
Jada smiled as Sophie placed the ring back into the box.
"So, does this mean that I have your blessing?" Sophie asked as she placed the box into her bag.
"You don't need it, but if you desire it, yes, you have my blessing to marry my daughter."
"Thank you. Does that mean you'll start knocking now?"
Jada laughed, "you wish."
