Chapter Text

Eights months of being part of the 141 you realized the bar in town became the place the 141 went to after mission or to pass time off base. This time was due to another successful mission. The mission went off without a hitch, no one was seriously hurt and we returned back to the base earlier than expected.

-

"You have exceptional combat skills. You'd fit in with the 141" Price commented when first meeting him. "You will be the only female Sargent on the team, if there is any problem that you face with that I urge you bring it to be immediately "

"It seems you already expect me to agree to be with your team Captain." You stated smiling, crossing your arms over your chest, "I know how to handle my self, but thank you for your hospitality."

Being a woman in the military is hard enough as is, being apart of a special task force you'd imagine become it become 100 times harder.

"You and I both know, I wouldn't be here if that was any different, Y/LN." He smiled walking over and patting you on the shoulder, "Welcome to the 151, go get your shit, leaving in 30 minutes."

-

"Scoot over will ye' " The Scottish man scooted closer to you, two drinks in hand. A tall stout for himself, a whiskey for you. "See any fine young men tonight lass?" He asked raising a brow, tipping back his glass.

You snorted looking at the crowed in front of you, half of your team, half the geriatric club. Price fell into both those categories. "Oh yeah,  I see myself with that bloke over there." You nodded towards a man slumped over ina booth, several bottles surrounding him. You raised the glass of honey colored whiskey to your lips, feeling it flow down your throat with ease, "Real catches out here," The sarcasm rolled off your tongue more freely now that you were on your fifth? No maybe sixth drink of the night.

Soap looked over at the aged man, "You know how to pick'em." He said chuckling at your flushed face pressed against your palm, making your lips pout out a little.

The two of you talked for a bit more, looking at Gaz hitting it off with a pretty woman on the small dance floor. The woman pointed behind her, your eyes following where she pointed, to another pretty woman who began walked over, talking with her friend and Gaz. Your friend nodded and left the pair, walking slowly to your booth with a wide grin.

"Wonder if that pretty friends for me," He laughed, bumping into your shoulder. His giddiness showed on his face, eyes crinkled, smirk spread nicely across his unshaved face.

"Hm yea, I wonder." You mumbled, starting to pick at the worn down varnished table.

You felt your chest get hot, the jealousy rolling throughout your body being unwarranted. You didn't know when or how the love for the man beside you came to be. You just knew it came and hit you like a freight train blowing through a piece of wet paper.

You tilted your head back, downing the rest of your drink in one gulp, at the same time waving at the bar tender for another drink. Your mind getting fuzzier by the second. You could only hope it would help you ignore your feelings.

-

"I never thought I'd end up so many cuts in my life." You said, grazing the irritated slash along your forearm. "Wonder what my sister would think" you murmured the last part to yourself.

"Never knew you had a sister," He said turning towards you, "Ye' never talk 'bout her"

"Yea, she's 23 now, haven't spoken to her in a couple years." You shrugged, "Complicated family stuff."

"Oh," He paused like he was choosing his next words carefully, "M' sorry didn't mean to overstep."

You shook your head, waving it off. "None sense, you're like.." you trailed off, is it embarrassing to admit to someone you think of them as your best friend at 26?  It felt like you haven't called someone your best friend since you were a teenager.

'Im like what lass?"  He was stood closer now, leaning against opposite of you. "Hmm?"

You felt your face heat up, looking at the ground, you taking a deep breath, "It's childish, but I consider you my best friend" your thumbs went in circles with each other between your clasped hands, trying to play it off like seeing him everyday didn't make your heart feel full, hearing his obnoxious laugh didn't make you laugh harder, being around him just making your day better. You wanted to be around him all the time. Your eyes widen for a second, heart stopping. This isn't just friend feelings...

Oh fuck, oh fuck. I love you.

"Im your best friend?" You could hear the smile in his voice, you nodded finally looking up from the ground. His face was flush from the humid night air, he took the few steps to get to you, wrapping you in a hug. "You're my best friend too, Wasp." He pulled away with a wide grin on his face, looking down at you.

The dim lights seemed to glow around him like a halo, enhancing his dark brown eyes. Definitely not helping with your realization the deepness of your love for this man. The flutter in your heart became harder and harder to ignore, you shuffled back some more realizing you both were still close together. The medic came in soon after that looking over your wounds and fixing you up. You left quickly after you were done, making the excuse you needed to talk to Price about something, he didn't seem to mind bidding you goodnight.

You walked back to your tent, thoughts flying a mile a minute, realizing you were screwed.

-

Gaz sat next to you, swinging an arm around you, "You feelin' good lil bee?" His body warmth calming you even more. "Mind if I steal your Johnny for a moment.

You nodded, too tired to respond now. The booth shook as the large men left, the warmth leaving right behind them. 'Your Johnny. God it sounded so nice' You thought giggling to yourself, receiving the glass of liquor shortly after they left.

You sat at the booth for a while more, sipping slowly on the whiskey, watching as people dance together slowly as some classics rolled through the speakers. You hummed along to the songs, trying to find the energy to get up to go to the bathroom. You blew raspberries out your lips, gripping the sides of the table as you slid out the booth, wobbling as you stood on your feet. "M'kay you got this Y/N," You whispered to yourself.

You focused on the sign pointing out where the bathrooms were located, walking slowly past the bar and to the hallway. You leaned against the wall for a moment, feeling like you just ran a marathon with swirly glasses on. You pushed through the door, seeing the pretty woman from before pressed against the sink, her dressed around her waist, and a familiar Scottish man's reflection in the mirror.

You let out a yelp turning around and facing the wall, "I'm sorry jus' need to piss," You slurred, hearing the rustling of clothes and quiet words being shared between the two. You leaned your forehead against the cool tile, groaning out "Fuckin' hell."

The woman quickly apologizing as she slipped out the door. You turned around staring at the man who was staring right back. "You..you're kinda gross you know." You laughed walking to the stall, leaning against it, "You don't even know her,"

Sober you already had a hard time thinking before you spoke, but intoxicated you? You had no filter or thought of stopping whatever came out your mouth. You laughed again, shaking your head, "Christ didn't know it was that easy to get in your pants, would-"

His hand slapped against the sink he stood at, "None of your business what I do with anyone!" His loud voice echoed in the bathroom, anger woven in every feature of his face.

You sobered up quickly, eyes widening at his actions. His eyes softened, walking towards you, "I'm sorry lass I-"

The door of the stall stopped you from taking more steps back, "I know it's not my business." Your voice was just as loud, eyes filled with sadness, "Now get out. I need to pee." Your voice did a 180, now so quiet he barely heard what you said.

He paused for a second, maybe two, before walking past and leaving the restroom. Probably back to the woman who he was in only minutes ago.

You waited a moment, pulling your fist back and slamming it into the stall door repeatedly. "God damn it!" You shook your redden, sore hand out. "Can't just have a good night." You sighed, going into the stall and doing what you originally intended to do.

You stayed in the bathroom longer, starring at your grim reflection. The bags under your eyes seemed more apparent, hair hanging heavily around your face, the same face that was complimented on appearing soft and young, now looked drained of all life.

You sighed, turning around and walking into the hall, seeing Ghost leaned against the wall. "Fuckin' christ man, gotta stop scarring me." You laughed, holding a hand over chest, hoping he wouldn't say anything that happened.

"Were in there quiet a while," He stated leaning against the wall opposite of you, "Saw that woman and Soap leave out here, thought'd to come and check.."He trailed off, not sure what to say.

'Well never mind about him not saying anything'  you thought.

You shrugged in response not wanting to dive into your feelings, "Yea saw a white Scottish ass more than I'd like to." You laughed and started walking away, Ghost grabbed your arm holding you back, he wasn't wear his full coverage balaclava, showing his raised eyebrows like he was saying "come on now.",  "It's fine, just need to wash my eyes out." You assured him, grateful he dropped it, following you as you walked away.

Price stood at the main entrance, waving the two of you over, "It's late, let's get going." He let out a yawn, scratching at his beard. The three of you walked to the jeep, hoping behind the wheel, Ghost hoping in the passenger.

You crawled in the backseat, not seeing the other half of your team, "Wait wheres Gazzy and McTavish?" You asked, your brain still too sluggish to piece together the information, you heard your Captain sigh continuing to pull out the parking lot, "Price? You just gonna ignore me?" You sounded like a kid begging for attention from their daddy.

"Thats enough Wasp," He finally answered, looking at you through the rear view mirror, quickly turning his attention the road again.

You sighed, "Oh Come o-"

Ghost snapped his head back, his eyes narrowed "Thats enough. It's none of your business."

You let your head fall against the window, not saying another word. You closed your eyes, the situation slowly piecing together in your mind, they were off fucking those women, you came to the realization. Your eyes opened seeing gates of the base, you huffed sitting up straighter, throwing off your seatbelt and climbing out the car. You bid the men good night quietly, apologizing to Price before your behavior. You walked through the barracks, Ghost walking slowly beside you.

You reached your room, hesitating to open the door, you turned to your superior whose room was beside yours, "I'm sorry for acting like a child Ghost, it was none of my business." You looked at him, nervously pulling at your fingers.

"Go to sleep Wasp." He said is calmly, opening his door, "And ice your hand. Thats an order." He said it like a parent scolding their child for getting into the cookie jar, getting into his room and shutting the door behind him.

You went into your room, stripping off your clothes, quickly getting under the covers. The bruised knuckles will be dealt with later, when you could walk to the bathroom without worrying you'd trip and bust your head open. You'd come up with a cover story later as well, knowing that your teammates wouldn't believe it. None of it matter at the moment. You just slept with the petty thoughts of being angry at your best friend, the person you loved.

This isn't how the night was supposed to go.
