Training Run

Chapter Text

Bumblebee woke up to see Hound grinning down at him. “You tazed me!”

“I was under orders!” Hound held up his hands in surrender. “But don’t worry, Ratchet already took it out of my plating when he replaced your data cable. Sorry about that, none of us thought the lock would malfunction like that.”

“Forgiven, I think.” Bee sat up slowly, and realized that Agent Jazz and Commander Highbrow were in the recovery room with him. Jazz’s visor was still cracked, but neither of them looked injured otherwise. “How’d we do, sir?”

“Oh you and Mirage passed.” Highbrow smiled for a moment. “Captain Slapdash will be re-assigned outside of intelligence, as I believe he should have been vorns ago. Agent Jazz, on the other hand, failed his first training exercise since he was a cadet. Excellent work, Agent Bumblebee.”

“You failed him?” Bumblebee blinked.

“He failed me,” Jazz confirmed with a rueful grin. “Says I got too cocky. He’s probably right.”

“Where’s Mirage?” The minibot contemplated climbing out of the medical berth and then decided against it. Hound had said that Ratchet had been in charge of his repairs, and he had no desire to make their chief surgeon angry today. “He got back safely, right?”

“He did.” Highbrow nodded. “He’s been running circles around some of our newer recruits while you recovered. You can expect a visit at the end of his shift.”

“Thank you, sir.” Bumblebee nodded.

“Agent Jazz will keep you company until then. I want the two of you to get to know each other better, since you’ll be transferring into the Iacon team, Bumblebee.”

Highbrow left the room while Bee was still staring at him in shock.

-_-_-_-_-

“Bumblebee?” Bee looked up from his data pad at the sound of Mirage’s voice. “I would have thought Ratchet would have released you by now.”

“Apparently my processor is still a little scrambled. I’m stuck here for observation overnight.” He marked his place in the literature file and gave Mirage his full attention. “It’s not a big deal. Jazz even gave me a book to read while I'm stuck.”

“I wish I had known you were that badly injured.” Mirage frowned. “But I am glad you are recovering well enough to read. Did the commander give you the news?”

“We passed, and I’m being reassigned to Iacon, yeah.”

“Oh, not just that.” The taller mech’s frown lifted. “You, Jazz and I will be forming the core of a new special division. Apparently the Prime wants a group of spies and saboteurs who are not afraid of doing anything it takes to achieve their goals.”

“Hm. not sure how I feel about that.” Bumblebee frowned.

“Well, it certainly sounds more appealing than being thrown out onto the front lines and being smashed by a combined gestalt team.” Mirage shrugged. “I am looking forward to the challenge, and the companionship.”

The other mech looked so earnest that Bumblebee had to think again about what was happening. “Yeah, maybe it won’t be so bad. We made a pretty good team, when we weren’t fighting.”

“Indeed we did. And I believe our next team project should be revenge on Hound. That taser was uncalled for.”

Bumblebee laughed, and Mirage joined in a moment later. They were going to make a great team, Jazz or no Jazz.
