Chapter Text

It's not that Taehyun was trying to deny his crush, he just knew that it wasn't realistic. He had been pining over the star trainee ever since he joined the agency.
Taehyun had been scouted while taking a dance class weeks before, and today was finally the day he would start his idol training. He stood outside the huge agency building, fidgeting with his sleeves, anxiety slowly pooling in his stomach. He had already done all the prerequisite paperwork, he'd been assigned a dorm, vocal lessons, and dance practices. He took a deep breath and opened the agency doors.
Taehyun was already dressed in comfortable clothes, as today was his first dance practice. After wandering around the long, confusing halls, he found the correct room. He entered the huge dance studio, lined with mirrors, already filled with other trainees and for the first time he saw him. Jeon Jungkook. Taehyun has been following the trainee on Instagram and was a fan the day he found his profile. A true all-rounder, he could sing, dance, and had the most amazing visuals. Taehyun was frozen, just admiring his beauty when he was suddenly jolted back to reality by a hand on his shoulder.

"Ah!" he couldn't help but exclaim when he realized a boy had appeared right beside him. He was taller, had brown shaggy hair with bits of blondes throughout, and dark, but kind eyes. He was bouncing from foot to foot and waving enthusiastically.

The boy couldn't help but giggle at Taehyun's surprise.
"Sorry for scaring you, I'm Beomgyu by the way. It's your first day too, yeah? I think us newbies should stick together! Seems there's already cliques formed, we might actually be the only new people here today!"
When Beomgyu pauses to breathe Taehyun manages to get out a simple, "Taehyun....is my name."
Beomgyu laughs and grabs his hand with both and shakes it aggressively. "Pleasure to be working with you Taehyunie. You're kinda like a cat aren't you?" he asks as he ruffles Taehyun's silver hair. Taehyun rolls his eyes at Beomgyu's puppy-like energy that rivals his own apparent "cat energy" but smiles anyway. Taehyun can't help but notice his anxiety falling away as Beomgyu starts chattering away about the latest game news he's seen online.

The class continues, Taehyun is paired with Beomgyu and they're stretching. The two are chatting about this and that but Taehyun eyes are glued to Jungkook across the practice room.

"Uhh...earth to Taehyun?"
His eyes snap back to Beomgyu.
"Sorry, what were you saying?"
Beomgyu flips his hair dramatically, feigning offense.
"I SAID the new FPS game is out today if you'd like to come over and check it out?"
Taehyun agrees and the two swap contact info.
"Sure, sure. I just have to get to my own dorm first and see who my roommate is." Taehyun explains.

The class finishes up and Taehyun wants to approach Jungkook to introduce himself, but the agency's rising star is already surrounded by the other students. Taehyun takes his bag and leaves.

Taehyun is standing outside his assigned dorm room, nervously fidgeting with his bag. Perhaps too many minutes pass by as the door opens and a tall well-built blonde boy is standing in the doorway. He cocks his beanie clad head. "Tae?"

"Oh my god KAI?"

Huening Kai and Taehyun had met at a dance class around a year ago and had been close friends ever since, keeping in touch online.
"I thought you had moved to Hawaii?"
"I did! I got scouted after the agency saw my vocal covers online and was invited to join the trainee program! I wanted to surprise you!"
Taehyun smiles as he hugs Kai, comfortable that his roommate is someone he knows and trusts.

A couple hours pass as Taehyun catches up with Kai while the two unpack and decorate the dorm when his phone notification goes off.

Beomgyu: TAEHYUNNNNNNNIEEEE
Beomgyu: :D
Beomgyu: just picked up the game and just got back to my room
Beomgyu: so come on!
Beomgyu: >:(
Beomgyu: helloooooo
Beomgyu: i'm waiting on you dude!
Taehyun: lol i'll be there soon
Beomgyu: :D <3
Taehyun bids Kai goodbye, grabs his bag and heads to Beomgyu's room which coincidentally is on the same floor as his own.
Taehyun only gets one knock on the door before Beomgyu throws it open.
"FINALLY. I didn't want to start playing without you so let's go!"
Beomgyu beams as he grabs Taehyun's wrist and leads him inside. Taehyun has never been around someone with this much energy but he can't help but smile. Taehyun sits on the couch as Beomgyu gets the game ready.
"So no roommates?" Taehyun asks.
"Nope! Got the place all to myself."
"That's cool. I'm rooming with Huening Kai, we've been friends for awhile. Well, online this past year since he's been in the States."
"Oh I met Kai in the hall earlier! He seems nice."
Beomgyu is humming a pop song as he continues installing the game and finding controllers. Taehyun looks around the room, noticing the boxes of vinyl records, video games, and a guitar in the corner of the room.
"You play guitar?"
Beomgyu glances over, "I do! I'm no pro but I've written a song or two."
"Is that why you want to be an idol?" Taehyun asks.
"Sure is! I want to produce music! I realized that if I was given the opportunity to debut that would give me the opportunity to tell my own story. I try to remember the things that I'm feeling, the emotions and the parts of my life that I want to hold onto. I think the best way to express myself is through music, so I take these parts of myself and try to create something beautiful out of it."
Taehyun is impressed with the elder's answer.
"That's really amazing, Beomgyu. You'll have to play them for me sometime. I'd love to hear anything you've made."
"What about you, Tae? Why the idol industry?"
"Oh well, my answer isn't as cool as yours, but when I watched Shinee's 'Replay', I just knew. I wanted to be a singer." He smiles at the memory.
"Your voice is amazing, Tae. I looked up some of your covers online, I definitely want to make music with you someday."
Taehyun slightly blushes at the sudden compliment.
Beomgyu smiles to himself before throwing a controller into Taehyun's lap and flopping down right next to him.
"Alright alright it's ready, let's play! I've been waiting for this game for months!"
Taehyun and Beomgyu play the game for a few hours and the conversation never stops. Taehyun has never felt this comfortable with someone so quickly. He's happy to have found a new friend the first official day of being a trainee.
Taehyun checks his phone and realizes how late it's gotten.
"Ah. It's almost midnight. We should probably call it here."
Beomgyu throws himself across Taehyun's lap.
"Aww man but we're having so much fun!"

Beomgyu shoots the biggest puppy dog eyes towards Taehyun.
Taehyun averts his eyes, trying to ignore the heat that's rising in his face. He pats Beomgyu's head and starts to get up.

"It's only the first night of the trainee program, haha. We'll have plenty of time to game."
Beomgyu still pouts as he walks Taehyun out the door.
"I really had a lot of fun tonight Taehyunie."
Taehyun smiles and offers a fist bump.
"Me too."
Beomgyu bypasses the fist bump and throws his arms around his new found friend. Taehyun hugs him back and heads out the door. Taehyun makes it back to his room and falls asleep.

Chapter Text

It had been just over 2 weeks since the start of the trainee program and Taehyun had spent almost every day with Beomgyu. He was entertaining and easy to be around. His energy was hard to match at times, but Taehyun found it endearing.
Taehyun woke up the next morning pretty early, Kai was still asleep, Taehyun decided to go ahead and get to the dance studio. He sits on the studio floor playing on his phone to pass time.
"You're an early riser too, huh?"
Taehyun startled, looks up to see who is standing in front of him.
It's him. The Jeon Jungkook.

Flustered, Taehyun springs to his feet.
"Oh uhm h-hi! Jungkook-ssi right? I'm Taehyun!"
He manages to blurt out.
Jungkook smiles and flashes a peace sign.
"That's me! Would you like to stretch since we've got some time before class?"
Taehyun swallows and nods a little too enthusiastically.
Jungkook laughs and the two start stretching.

Taehyun can't believe this is happening. Jungkook is literally right in front of him. Minutes seem to fly by before Taehyun finds the courage to start an actual conversation with Jungkook.
"So uhm. Have you played that new FPS game?"
Jungkook eyes light up. "I haven't picked up a copy yet but I'm really excited to try it out! I've watched dozens of reviews already, it looks amazing!"
Just as the boys conversation started, it immediately ended as the other trainees pour into the studio.
Kai approaches the two and gasps.
"Wait a second isn't this the same guy that you have dozens of pics of saved on your phone?"
Taehyun tries to evaporate Kai's existence with his mind, but to no avail. Jungkook lets out a small laugh.
"Really? Oh, uhm-I'm flattered." Jungkook says with a smirk.
"H-he's joking! Oh my god Kai can you shut up." Taehyun doesn't want to know how red he's become.
Kai just giggles and darts away as a handsome boy with curly hair runs up to Jungkook and starts pulling him up by the arm.
"Jungkookie I really need help with the routine!"
Jungkook rolls his eyes at the boy. Taehyun is jealous, but thankful to have the conversation steered away from himself and his...photo collection.
"Tae-tae we literally have only learned two sections so far."
Taehyun's eyes fall to the floor. He wishes he was the one Jungkook was calling such a cute pet name. Heck, his name could be Tae as well.
The other boy juts out his bottom lip and Jungkook gives in and follows him.
"Nice meeting you Taehyun!" He calls out as he gets dragged away.

"Yeah....you too." Taehyun doesn't even get the chance to feel disappointed as he feels a weight lean up against him.
"Taehyunie I'm so exhausted!" his new friend exclaims.
"Beomgyu, don't tell me you actually stayed u-"
"Stayed up all night gaming. You get me Taehyunie!" he exclaims, leaning more into Taehyun. He hasn't ever really been a very touchy person, but he admits to himself that it's a nice distraction after the embarassment and having his pretty hyung taken away.
Class goes by and Taehyun keeps his eyes glued to Jungkook, amazed by how well he can control his body during the dance. The shaggy haired boy breaks the gaze Taehyun had locked on his hyung by sitting down inches from his face.

Taehyun flinches back, as he was completely engrossed in Jungkook only moments before.
"Taehyunie do you want to get smoothies?"
Taehyun notices Jungkook is already surrounded by the other trainees and realizes that he has no chance to continue the earlier conversation with his hyung.
"Sure. Sounds good to me" Taehyun grabs his things and follows Beomgyu out of the studio, sending one more glance towards Jungkook.
Along the walk to the cafe, Beomgyu chatters on about the latest game streams he's watched. They finally arrive at the cafe, it's small but trendy, the walls lined with pop music posters and plants hanging from the celing. The two order their drinks and head back to Beomgyu's dorm.
"Taehyunie lemme try your smoothie!" Beomgyu pleads.
Taehyun is hesitant, "You have your own..."
"Aw is my kitty Tae afraid of sharing an indirect kiss with me, hmm?"
Beomgyu pinches Taehyun's cheeks as his ears start turning pink. The pet names Beomgyu had been so comfortable using with him right from the get-go seem almost intimate in this moment. Taehyun shoves the drink towards Beomgyu. "Here!"
Beomgyu smiles as he takes a sip and says, "Delicious," all without breaking eye contact.
"Banana strawberry is a classic, I rarely get any other flavor," Taehyun admits.
"Oh yeah the smoothie is good too," Beomgyu says with a wink.
Taehyun's eyes widen as he realizes the joke(?) Beomgyu just made, and quickly grabs his phone as a distraction. Taehyun is scrolling through Instagram for the next few minutes when he pauses on a post from Jungkook. He looks good. And the thousands of likes prove that fact.
"Isn't that Jeon Jungkook?" Beomgyu asks, looking over Taehyun's shoulder.
"Oh-hah y-yeah it is..."
"You friends with him or something?"
"I've only talked to him once, haha.." Taehyun is embarassed.
"What's up with you? Gotta crush on him or something?"
Taehyun starts to fidget but freezes when Beomgyu puts his friend's face in his hands. "It's all good if you do! I might have a crush on someone too, ya know." Beomgyu smirks as Taehyun is stunned twice in a ten minute span.
"Anyway, time to game!" Beomgyu leaves Taehyun with the emotional whiplash and throws him a controller.
Taehyun returns to his own dorm with the thought of Beomgyu's hands around his face earlier. He was just kidding around, that's the kind of person he is. Just joking...right?
Taehyun pushes the confusion away and falls asleep.

Chapter Text

Taehyun lays awake most of the night, thoughts of Beomgyu's words racing through his mind. He ends up making an iced coffee and decides that going to the dance studio early might distract him, hoping to catch his crush again. Luck is on his side as he opens the door and sees Jungkook playing on his phone.
"Morning Taehyun!" Jungkook beams and waves.
"Mornin' Jungkook-ssi" he notices Jungkook playing Kartrider. "Oh I've been playing that a lot recently!"
Taehyun is internally screaming but remains cool as the two play games and chat.
Other trainees start filing in but Taehyun is so invested in his time with Jungkook he doesn't notice until he feels someone jump onto his back.

"Taehyunie!! My kitty! I missed you! You didn't respond to my texts this morning!" Beomgyu has now wrapped his legs around Taehyun's waist with no sign of letting go. He nuzzles his face into Taehyun's silver hair.

Jungkook laughs "I'll talk to you later Taehyun" as he walks towards a group of trainees.
"O-oh uhm bye!" is all Taehyun manages to say as the hangout is ended.
"Beomgyu what the hell? I literally saw you last night"
Taehyun, just a little irritated snaps at Beomgyu.

Beomgyu slides off of Taehyun. "It was just a joke, I didn't mean to break up your little date with Jungkook-ssi."
"I-it's not like that! It's fine. Sorry I didn't text you this morning."
Beomgyu smiles and taps his friend on the nose.
"You owe me a game session and I'll consider forgiving you."
Taehyun can't even be upset, he rolls his eyes and agrees.
The two are back in Beomgyu's room, both on their phones when Taehyun sees he has a message from Jungkook. He drops his phone which catches Beomgyu's attention.

Jungkook: Hey! I forgot to ask for your friend code for Kartrider :)
Taehyun smiles as he sends Jungkook the code.
Beomgyu notices the message. "You're smiling that big over a little message from Jungkook-ssi?"
Taehyun eyes widen, embarrassed, "What? I-we just played some Kartrider this morning before dance."
Beomgyu climbs on top of Taehyun, straddling him while looking directly into his eyes.
"Don't tell me you're getting a new gaming buddy?"
Taehyun freezes, completely taken aback by how close they are.
"What? I'm here now, right? Hah...turn the PS5 on already."
"Promise?" Beomgyu looks serious.
Taehyun offer his pinkie, Beomgyu hooks his pinkie around it.
"I promise. Believe me, Gyu."
Beomgyu laughs and slides off of Taehyun, and walks to the console. The moment isn't mentioned for the rest of the hangout.

Taehyun is lying down in bed, playing Kartrider online with Jungkook. Trying to keep calm. It's just a silly mobile game but he's playing it with the Jeon Jungkook. He suddenly receives a message from Beomgyu. Just a slew of memes and emojis.
The message reminds Taehyun of what happened earlier that day. Beomgyu is just a touchy person with a lot of energy. Kai is also a big on hugs, himself, occasionally linking arms with Taehyun when they watch dramas together. It didn't mean anything that Beomgyu did a little bit more. Right? Taehyun replies to Beomgyu then puts his phone down and tries his best to fall asleep.

Chapter Text

Another week goes by, Taehyun spends most of his time hanging out with Beomgyu, and their friendship becomes stronger by the day. Taehyun can tell Beomgyu any of his anxieties, and Beomgyu never judges him for how he feels. The older can flip his mood around just by joking or distracting Taehyun with a gaming session. Taehyun has also started to message Jungkook more and more. It might just be idle chit chat but at least it's progress, Taehyun tells himself.
It's a Friday afternoon, all dance and vocal lessons done for the day, so Taehyun and Beomgyu are at the small café sitting at a table near the back, this time also joined by Kai. Taehyun is just scrolling through Instagram while Beomgyu fidgets with Taehyun's sleeve absentmindedly, Kai chattering on about the latest game reviews he's seen on Youtube.
Taehyun glances up to see Jungkook and a few other trainees approaching his table. Jungkook smiles as Taehyun's eyes light up.
"Hey Taehyun! Hey Beomgyu! Hey Kai!"
They all greet their hyung.
"You three hear about Jackson Wang's party next weekend?"
The three shake their head in response.
"I'll text you the details! You all are welcome to come, Jackson always wants as many people at his parties as possible, haha."
Taehyun is smiling huge and nodding away as Beomgyu continues playing with his sleeve.
Jungkook waves goodbye and leaves with his group, Taehyun still beaming, mouth agape.
"Could you close your mouth before it dries out?"
Beomgyu pushes Taehyun's jaw closed and lets his hand linger for a moment before choosing to start fidgeting with Taehyun's bracelet. Kai notices the gesture but keeps it to himself.
The two wave goodbye to Kai and proceed to head back to Beomgyu's dorm, and are sitting on the couch together.
"I can't believe we got invited to such a big party by Jungkook." Taehyun says still trying to convince himself that the invite actually happened.
"You've been messaging him a lot recently so I mean.."
Beomgyu almost looks...upset?
"He's our cool and talented hyung, I could learn so much from him, so of course I'm gonna talk to him."
"Tsk, you know I'm a year older than you, I could teach you lots too." Beomgyu sticks his tongue out.
Taehyun smirks and challenges him, "Oh yeah, Gyu? Like what, how to be a huge nerd?"

Beomgyu slides close to Taehyun and takes the younger's face in his hands. "I was thinking I could teach you something like this.." the shaggy haired boy says as his eyes flutter down to Taehyun's lips.

Before Taehyun can register what's happening, Beomgyu kisses him. Hard. To Taehyun's own suprise, he doesn't pull away. Maybe he's just caught off guard but he can't help but close his eyes and starts kissing him back. Taehyun runs his fingers through Beomgyu's long hair.
It's so soft.
Taehyun lets his hands trace over Beomgyu's face as he leans closer into him. Taehyun has never kissed anyone and he can see himself getting addicted to this. Beomgyu bites Taehyun's lower lip then starts to slip his tongue into his mouth.
The moment ends almost as fast as it starts, as Taehyun's loud ringtone causes him to finally pull away. Kai's contact picture lighting up the phone.
"Oh-uh I'm sorry I gotta get this, Kai might need something. He never just calls for nothing. Actually I-I should probably just head back to the dorm anyway, I'll see you later Gyu."
Taehyun grabs his bag, trying to ignore the butterflies in his stomach, and rushes out the door before Beomgyu can even get out a goodbye.

Chapter Text

Taehyun wakes up to texts from Beomgyu.

Beomgyu: Taehyunieeeeee!
Beomgyu: wakey wakey!
Beomgyu: come onnnnnn
Beomgyu: the new game announcements conference is streaming soon!
Beomgyu: >:(
Beomgyu: you better be on your way here
Beomgyu: and thats why ur ignoring me
Beomgyu: don't tell me you forgot!!
Taehyun: lol i'll be there in a bit
Beomgyu: yayyyyy :) <3333

Taehyun is confused. Did last night even happen?
He pushes the concern to the side and starts getting ready to head to Beomgyu's dorm. As he grabs his phone and is about to leave, he notices a new message.

Jungkook: hey tae!
Jungkook: the new game announcements stream is today!
Jungkook: my roomies are out so i have no one to celebrate with
Jungkook: or complain to lmao
Jungkook: if you're not busy you could come by and watch with me :)

Taehyun looks at his phone in disbelief. Hanging out with Jungkook...hanging out with Jungkook alone?! In a daze he immediately replies to Jungkook.

Taehyun: yes please! :) i can head over now!
Taehyun: oh wait what's your dorm number?

Jungkook gives him the info.
Taehyun is punching the air in excitement when he gets another text.

Beomgyu: hey if you haven't left yet bring an extra controller!
Beomgyu: i might've broken one .__.;

Oh shit. Gyu.

Taehyun considers lying to Beomgyu, but decides against it. He knows he should be honest with his closest friend.

Taehyun: hey sorry!
Taehyun: so jungkook invited me to watch the stream
Beomgyu: oh? :(
Taehyun: i promise to hang out with you later!
Taehyun: i just shouldnt turn him down
Taehyun: since he's our hyung and all
Beomgyu: alright
Taehyun: we can watch highlights tonight!
Beomgyu: k
Taehyun: ill ttyl!
Message read.

Taehyun cringes with guilt at Beomgyu's responses. He's never sent a single letter, let alone single word responses before.
Taehyun decides he can't let this opportunity pass him by, he'll make it up to Beomgyu later.
Kai catches him before he leaves.
"Off to Beomgyu's to watch the stream?"
"Oh-uhm actually I'm going to watch it with Jungkook-ssi..."
Kai raises his eyebrow, confused.
"Okay....and you didn't invite Beomgyu too?"
Taehyun hesitates.
"I mean I didn't want to just assume. Jungkook-ssi only invited me...I see Beomgyu all the time and after what happened last night..." He pauses.
Kai tilts his head and gives Taehyun a curious look.
"Last night?"
Taehyun bites his lower lip. "I'm going to be late I have to go."
"Don't leave me with such a cliffhanger!" Kai calls out as the door closes behind Taehyun.
Taehyun makes his way up a few levels of the building, literally running away from Kai's questions and his own overwhelming feelings.

Taehyun gets to Jungkook's dorm and knocks. Jungkook opens the door and lets Taehyun inside. Jungkook walks towards the kitchen and looks towards Taehyun, who is still idling next to the door. "You're allowed to sit, haha. Need anything to drink?" the older asks. "Oh uhm yeah, haha. Yes please. Anything's fine."
Taehyun sits as Jungkook reaches inside the fridge and tosses him a soda, turning to turn on the TV, Taehyun doing his best to relax.

The two sit and comment on the stream's announcement and get through the whole thing without much happening when Jungkook asks, "So you like my Insta pics, hm? How many did you save was it? Dozens I think I heard" he has a mischievous look in his eye as he asks. Taehyun nearly spits his drink out and starts coughing. "Kai was-Kai was just trying to mess with me!"
"So is that a no?"
Taehyun's eyes widen, "I mean of course your pictures are....nice...I mean you get thousands of likes!"
Jungkook smirks, "So you'll collect my photocards when I debut, right?"
Taehyun laughs nervously. Jungkook ruffles his silver hair, "I'm just giving you a hard time. It's cute seeing you squirm." Taehyun has to pinch himself to confirm this is actually happening.
"So can I ask something?" Jungkook rests his face on his hands and looks towards Taehyun.
"O-of course, anything. What's up?"
Taehyun tenses as Jungkook scoots closer to him on the couch.

"Are you and Beomgyu...together?"

Did he hear him correctly?
Was this the impression he and Beomgyu gave everyone?
It's not that Taehyun didn't like Beomgyu. It just wasn't...
like that. Right? I mean they did kiss, but that was just, it was just something spontaneous. Yeah. Just something really good friends do.
His mind continues to race when he realizes he needs to answer Jungkook so he spurts out,
"N-no! Beomgyu and I are just really good friends."
Jungkook eyes flash to Taehyun's lips, "I see."
The older starts to lean towards Taehyun when the door flies open and two boys stumble in.
"Jungkookieeeeee!" the same curly haired boy that Taehyun's seen before leans over the back of the couch and slings his arms over Jungkook. "Oh hey! Who's this?"
Jungkook introduces them, "Taehyung this is Taeyhun, Taehyun this is Taehyung." The curly haired boy flashses a boxy smile, "We almost have twin names!" Taehyung slides over and hugs Taehyun who's still too surprised at the earlier moment to even react.
"Oh do I not get a grand introduction? I am the coolest in this dorm after all." the other roommate speaks, Taehyun glances over at the voice. He is small framed and his visuals are angelic. His hair styled is perfectly, and dressed in what seems to be designer brands.
Jungkook rolls his eyes, "This is the prince of dorm room 613, Jimin."
Jungkook waves his hands dramatically towards the pretty boy.
"That's more like it!" Jimin flips his silver dangle earring.
The three roommates start chattering while Taehyun checks his phone. I really need to go see Beomgyu, Taehyun thinks, feeling guilty about the morning texts.

Taehyun: hey gyu!
Taehyun: i can head over now :)
Beomgyu: busy
Taehyun: what?
Beomgyu: im busy
Taehyun: alright well i'll be at my dorm
Taehyun: text me whenever you're free
Message read.

Taehyun is hurt by the exchange but reasons that Beomgyu honestly is just busy. He spends another half hour or so chatting with the three older, and then says his goodbyes, thanking Jungkook again for inviting him over. He heads back to his own dorm and sees Kai on the couch. He throws his bag down and joins him.

"Hey! How'd it go?" Kai looks up lazily from his phone, as he scrolls through Twitter.
"It was nice! He got a little close, it almost felt like he was gonna..."
Kai immediately puts his phone down and gives Taehyun his full attention.
"Gonna what?" Kai asks mouth agape, tugging on Taehyun's sleeve.
Taehyun sighs, "Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but he called me cute and it looked like he was leaning in to kiss me but then his roommates came home and I left."
"Woah. Maybe you do have a chance."
Taehyun scoffs and checks Beomgyu's messages and sees nothing new has been sent. Kai glances and notices the contact name.
"Oh yeah! You have to tell me what happened with Beomgyu last night!"
Taehyun shifts his gaze away, nervous. "I don't know..."
"You can trust me, Tae!" Kai is hugging his arm, eyes wide in anticipation.
"Can I? You were the one who told Jungkook about the saved pictures..." Taehyun starts fiddling with his bracelet.
"Oh god I'm sorry Tae! He didn't bring that up, did he?!"
"It's fine. He kinda used it to call me cute, so I can't be too upset."

Kai smiles but then asks "So what happened with Beomgyu? After hanging out with Jungkook I thought you'd bust in here doing cartwheels, but you seem down."
There's truth to what Kai said, spending time with his pretty hyung was great, but he still felt like he betrayed his best friend.
"Beomgyu...we-well the last time we hung out, uhm he-...kissed me." Taehyun finally admits.

"HE KISSED YOU?!" Kai shouts in surprise and grabs the older by the shoulders and starts shaking him.

Taehyun pries Kai's hands off his shoulders and lets his eyes dart around the room. "Yeah, h-he did. But there's no way it meant anything. I mean he's always hanging onto me and hugging me, he's just be a touchy type of person, I mean you and I cuddle when we watch k-dramas, it really can't mean anything, he's just my friend and I-" Kai puts his hand over Taehyun's mouth.

"When I move my hand, you're gonna stop talking and take some deep breaths, okay?" Taehyun nods as Kai passes him a penguin plushie to hug. Taehyun takes a second to calm himself then continues. "I don't know what to think, Kai. Gyu has become my best friend so fast, I really do feel like I can be myself with him. But if there's even a speck of a chance with Jungkook, then I feel like I'd regret it if I didn't take it."
"Which chance would you regret losing more?" Kai asks genuinely.
Taehyun puts his face in his hands, "I think I need sleep, Kai."
Kai nods understandingly as Taehyun goes to his own room, fighting his racing thoughts before finally drifting off to sleep.

Chapter Text

Taehyun is woken up by Kai the next day, as he barges into the room holding a takeout box and a smoothie.
"Oh god how is it already 2pm?" Taehyun rubs his eyes and finally sits up.
Kai hands him the food and sets the drink on the bedside table.
"I figured you needed the rest, we've got a few days off after all."
Taehyun thanks him for the food and tells the younger he'll be out after he gets up. Taehyun checks his phone.
Still nothing from Beomgyu.

Taehyun swallows the lump forming in his throat. He decides he is hungry and finishes his food before joining Kai in the front room.
"I still haven't heard from Beomgyu."
"Oh...he could just be busy!" Kai does his best to plaster a encouraging smile on his face, but Taehyun can see right through it.
"I'll just give him space for now." Kai takes Taehyun's hand and gives it a squeeze. Taehyun is thankful for Kai's friendship.
The two spend the afternoon chatting and watching cheesy k-dramas. Taehyun's mood lightens up enough for him to text Beomgyu.

Taehyun: gyu im sorry about yesterday
Taehyun: i wanna make it up to you

No response.

Taehyun: i miss you

No read receipt.

Minutes pass "Are you okay?" Kai asks as Taehyun starts to fidget.
"Yeah, no, I don't know. Beomgyu still hasn't responded and I'm worried."
"Ah...I know he'll come around. Maybe if he doesn't respond by the morning, go see him?"
Taehyun's eyes fall to his feet, "Yeah, you're right, you're right." He repeats, trying to convince himself.
The two spend the rest of the evening gaming and Kai does his best to distract his friend.

The next morning arrives and Taehyun's messages remain empty.
Taehyun goes to the kitchen to see Kai making breakfast.
"I'm going to check on Beomgyu." Taehyun tells Kai.
"Alright but at least eat this toast before you go!"
Taehyun agrees, then gets ready and heads to his best friend's (he hopes this is still the case) dorm.

He stands in the hallway. Nervousness fills his mind but the want, no the need to see Beomgyu and fix everything overrides it. He knocks. No answer. He knocks again.
Nothing.
Taehyun grabs the knob and finds it unlocked. He enters the dorm and heads to Beomgyu's room, pausing right outside the open door as he hears singing. It's Beomgyu's voice. He's sitting facing away from Taehyun, wearing headphones and strumming his guitar. He sighs in relief, starts to step towards his best friend but freezes in spot as he listens to the words.

Together together

Taehyun kneels behind Beomgyu and places his hand on his shoulder. Beomgyu yelps, throws off his headphones and turns to face the intruder.
"Oh my god Taehyun, what the fuck!"
Taehyun notices the lack of pet names. His face twists up and his vision blurs. Beomgyu face falls as he notices the tears forming in Taehyun's eyes.
"Woah no, it's okay! You just scared me!" Beomgyu looks panicked.
"Was that song about me-" he struggle to ask but chokes out a small cry follows it.
"Taehyunie, it's okay, sh-sh." He pulls Taehyun into a hug.
Taehyun leans completely into him, "I'm so sorry Beomgyu."

He cries for a few minutes as Beomgyu rubs his back.
He composes himself and finally looks up at Beomgyu.
Beomgyu glances away before saying,
"Yes, the song is about you." He looks embarrassed.
"Gyu I'm so so sorry" he starts to chew on his own thumb before Beomgyu takes both his hands and squeezes them. Taehyun continues, "We already had plans and I just threw them away just because Jungkook asked. I shouldn't have treated you like that, you mean so much to me. These past two days felt like an eternity without you. I don't want to lose you."
Beomgyu just pulls Taehyun down so his head is laying in the elder's lap, Beomgyu starts playing with Taehyun's silver hair, lost in thought.
"I overreacted, Tae. I just-I really like having you around and thought I might've scared you off. It's what always happens."
"What do you mean?" he takes Beomgyu's hand and holds it to his chest, waiting for an explanation.
Beomgyu sighs.
"I know I can be a bit...much sometimes. People I've tried being friends with in the past have always ended up leaving because of how annoying and overbearing I am. I'm too loud and obnoxious, I don't blame them." Beomgyu's far away look proves he believes his own words.
Taehyun sits up immediately and laces his fingers with Beomgyu's. "Gyu, we've only known each other for a short time but it's already obvious that I need you in my life. You bring me so much joy. If anything, I probably cloud your life with my own cold personality."
Beomgyu releases one of Taehyun's hands and lifts up Taehyun's chin so their eyes meet.
"Please don't say that about yourself, Taehyun-ah. You make me so, so happy." Beomgyu's eyes flicker down to Taehyun's lips.
Beomgyu bites his own lip and looks away, like he's
stopping himself?

Before Taehyun can realize, his body moves on its own. He leans towards his best friend and kisses him.
Beomgyu's eyes widen in shock, but he doesn't break away.
They kiss. And kiss. And kiss.

Beomgyu pulls Taehyun down so he's right on top of him. Beomgyu uses his tongue to trace the inside of Taehyun's mouth. Taehyun hums into him, enjoying every sensation, as Beomgyu plays with his silver hair. Taehyun lets his hands slip underneath Beomgyu's sweater, touching his bare chest and letting them slide down to his waist. Beomgyu lets out a small moan and Taehyun can't handle how desirable the older can be. He runs his thumbs over Beomgyu's hipbones, admiring how soft his skin is.

They only part when Taehyun's loud text ringtone goes off.
Taehyun slides off of Beomgyu's lap so he can fish his phone out of his pocket.
"Oh-uhm lemme make sure it's not Kai needing something." Taehyun and his best friend are both frazzled and blushing.
Beomgyu leans on the younger's shoulder, running his hand up and down his arm while Taehyun opens the message.

Jungkook: hey whats up! :)
Jungkook: if ur not busy we could game!

Beomgyu starts to sit back and give Taehyun space when he sees Taehyun spring to respond to the hyung.

Taehyun: hanging out with gyu!
Taehyun: ill ttyl! :)
Jungkook: sounds good!

Beomgyu is taken aback.
"Are you sure? I mean, it's Jungkook..."
Taehyun gives Beomgyu's hand a squeeze, as he leans forward and kisses the older on the forehead.
"I am not leaving, no matter how much you want to get rid of me." He smiles and continues, "Now can we watch those stream highlights? I need you to hear how ridiculous I think it is that Rabbids are getting another game."
"Hey! Rabbids are cool!" Beomgyu playfully punches Taehyun on the arm but turns the stream on. They spend the afternoon cuddling and laughing.

When Taehyun starts grabbing his bag and walks towards the door, Beomgyu clings to him, "You don't have to go Taehyunie you can stay the night if you want please, my bed is so comfy!"
Taehyun doesn't think his heart could handle sharing a bed with Beomgyu after the emotional overload he's already dealt with.
"Sorry, Gyu, I promised Kai we'd finish that k-drama tonight."
"Ugh fine, fine. Only because I like Kai." He crosses his arms and looks away.
"Come here please, Gyu." he holds his arms open as Beomgyu runs into him, nearly knocking him over.
"Thank you Gyu"
"For what?"
"Forgiving me."
"Yeah yeah yeah, it's in the past now. I couldn't stay mad forever, you're my favorite!"
Taehyun blushes and hugs the older tight before heading back to his own dorm.
Taehyun enters the dorm and flops down on the couch next to Kai, who already has the k-drama episodes queued up.
"Oh my god you have makeout hair." Kai claps his hand over his mouth to stifle the laughter.
Taehyun rushes to flatten his hair back down. "I do not!" his blush does not help his case.
"I'm taking it the visit went well?"
"It did."
Kai smiles, "Well if you wanna spill, I'm all ears, otherwise I am starting these episodes! This cliffhanger has me by the throat!"
Taehyun thinks of someone he wouldn't mind having him by the throat. He pushes that thought away for now.

Chapter Text

Taehyun spends the rest of the week, attending dance classes, vocal lessons and hanging out with Beomgyu. His conversations with Jungkook have been light, mostly about dance or Kartrider. One afternoon, after getting lunch they head back to Beomgyu's dorm. The two are sitting on the couch, the older is scribbling down notes in his lyric book, hair hanging down from his face. He glances up to see Taehyun staring at him.
"What's up?" he smirks.
Taehyun eyes dart away at first, blushing, but reaches forward to push Beomgyu's hair behind his ear.

"You're really...pretty." Taehyun finds the courage to admit.

Taehyun expects the taller to have a snarky comeback or roll his eyes, but he's quiet. Taehyun starts to slightly panic,
"I'm sorry-I just-I-" Beomgyu cuts him off with a quick peck on the lips.

"Thank you, Taehyunie," Beomgyu finally says, "I think you're really cute too, if our makeout sessions haven't proved that already, heh." Taehyun can feel his heart pounding in his chest.

Has Beomgyu always been this...irresistible?

Taehyun grabs a handful of Beomgyu's sweater and pulls him into his lap, and starts kissing his neck. Beomgyu whimpers and discards his notebook to the floor.
"Tae," he breathes out, "that tickles."
Taehyun starts kissing along the older's collarbone, leaving bites along the way. Beomgyu pulls Taehyun's face towards his own, kisses him, and wastes no time letting his tongue slip into the other's mouth. Taehyun slips his hands under the taller's sweater and around his small waist. Beomgyu breaks the kiss and looks down at Taehyun, biting his lip as he lowers his hips into Taehyun's lap, scooting forward slightly.
Getting lost in the moment, Taehyun lets out a small moan,
"Oh..fuck."
Taehyun digs his fingers into Beomgyu's waist, pulling him closer.
Beomgyu smirks and shifts his weight back and forth on Taehyun's lap.
"Kiss me. Please...Gyu," Taehyun's eyes glaze over, staring at the taller. Beomgyu complies and kisses Taehyun deeply.

Beomgyu slides his slender fingers around Taehyun's throat and grips lightly. Taehyun eyes widen in surprise as he breaks the kiss,
"Gyu, no...I-I.."
Beomgyu loosens his grip, "Oh my god Tae, I'm sorry I shouldn't have I just-" the taller slides off of his lap and eyes darting around the room.
Taehyun grabs Beomgyu's hand, but doesn't make eye contact.

"It's not that I-....that I don't like it, just..." Beomgyu's eyes widen as he listens, "I just don't think I could control myself if you did that."
Beomgyu laces his fingers through Taehyun's,
"Good to know." He winks.
Taehyun turns bright pink and playfully punches his friend.
"Sh-shut up."
Beomgyu flips on a random gaming video and cuddles into Taehyun's side.
Taehyun scrolls through his phone, "So Jackson's party is tomorrow, we're going together right? Kai wanted to know." Taehyun asks.
"Yeah of course! I've heard rumors about Jackon's parties, it'll definitely be interesting."
"If you want to meet at our dorm tomorrow by 8 we can all go together." Taehyun squeezes Beomgyu's hand.

Chapter Text

The evening of the party has finally arrived and after a good hour of pulling every single article clothing he owns, Taehyun finally decides on an outfit. An old sleeveless concert tee with the band's named crossed out, tight plaid strappy pants, and his white creepers.
"You look really cool, Tae!" Kai throws his arms around Taehyun's middle. The blonde is wearing a ripped white band tee, a half skirt covering black pleather pants, and black combat boots. He also sports a thin black choker.
Just as they walk into the front room, Beomgyu bursts through the door, "Turn up!!" he yells.
Taehyun rolls his eyes, "Oh my god Gyu, save that energy for the party."
Beomgyu is wearing a black band tee, tight plaid pants that have the knee section cut out, the two sections attached by straps, and white creepers.
Kai whines, "I didn't know we were going to match! Tae didn't tell me!"
"D-did we actually match?!" Beomgyu laughs, "We have to take a selca!"
Taehyun blushes as the older pulls him in close and snaps a photo with his phone.
"It wasn't planned, haha," Taehyun admits.
A smile spreads across Kai's face as he throws his head back and places his arms out dramatically, "It must've just been fate, and I can't be upset over that."
Taehyun flicks Kai on the forehead, "We gotta go guys."

The three walk up to the mansion that's only a few blocks away from the dorms, "Are you sure this is the place?" Kai asks eyes wide with curiosity. They notice several other trainees walk up to the house and follow them through the giant doors.
Loud techno music blasts over a sound system as dozens of people mill around, holding drinks and chattering away. The three shuffle awkwardly to the side, not knowing what to with themselves, when suddenly a skinny, dark-haired boy with the brightest smile bounces up to them.

"Oh my god, Jeongin?!" Kai exclaims and throws his arms around the other, "I didn't know you were gonna be here!"
The two chatter on before Jeongin announces, "Kai you have to meet Felix, you're going to love him!"
Before Kai can answer he's being dragged away by the smiley boy, shooting an apologetic look to his two friends.

"Should we get something to drink?" Beomgyu asks.
"Yeah, my nerves definitely need it." Taehyun follows him into the kitchen, weaving through the crowd.
Beomgyu mixes a vodka and energy drink and passes the large cup to Taehyun.
"Oh my god, Gyu," he winces, "did you use half the bottle?"
Beomgyu laughs, "Maybe I did!"
Some time passes and several drinks are had when Beomgyu is approached by a trainee, "Beomgyu oh my god I need to borrow you for this scavenger hunt please it won't take long!"
Beomgyu glances at Taehyun who just waves him off,
"I still need to finish my drink, no worries Gyu."

Taehyun finishes off his drink and is scrolling on his phone until he feels a hand grab his shoulder. "Oh my god Tae-tae! Hey!"
He looks up and sees Jimin in front of him.
"Hey Jimin-hyung! What's up?"
"We're about to play some spicy games and I was sent to find more players, so you're coming with me!"
Jimin pulls Taehyun out of the kitchen before he can protest and is set down in a circle of other party-goers. Taehyun freezes when he notices Jungkook giving him a small wave.
He waves back as Jimin practically slams an empty champagne bottle in the middle of the circle. "Spin the bottle! You know the rules, you guys ready for this?! You are going first Jungkookie!"
Jungkook rolls his eyes and heads toward the bottle, and spins it hard. Taehyun is holding his breath as he watches the bottle slow to stop, pointing directly towards himself.
Jimin screeches in surprise as Jungkook holds his hand out to Taehyun, "Shall we?" the older asks.
The two are practically shoved into a nearby room by Jimin.

Anxiety hits Taehyun like a wall, "W-we don't have to do this or anything, you're so cool and I'd understand completely if you didn't want to."
Jungkook ruffles his hair, pulls Taehyun towards the bed and sits on the edge. "You're really adorable, who said I don't want to do this? Is it okay if I kiss you?"
Taehyun's heart starts racing.
He hesitates but breathes out a "Yes."

Am I dreaming?
Jungkook cups Taehyun's face in his hand and leans towards him.
Taehyun closes his eyes as he feels the older's lip connect with his own.

Oh My God. This is happening.
Jungkook slips his tongue into Taehyun's mouth while pulling him closer. "Mmm" Jungkook groans into him.

Wait. This is everything Taehyun wanted...right? The older is a great kisser and he's extremely handsome so then what's the problem? Why is this situation void of the warmth and spark he feels with..

Oh. Oh.

Beomgyu.

The door is opened and before the two can break their kiss, a voice calls out.

"...Taehyun? I-is that you?"

Taehyun eyes widen as he sees the very person he was just thinking of standing in the doorway. "Beomgyu!?"

Beomgyu, with tears already forming in his eyes rushes back into the party. "Beomgyu, wait!" Taehyun springs up to follow him, pausing to turn towards Jungkook. "I'm sorry, it's not you, I just-I have to follow Beomgyu. I think I just-I think I really...I-I" Jungkook gives him a knowing nod, "You like him."
Taehyun bites his bottom lip and nods, "I really do like him."
He finally admitted it out loud, and realizes he needs to find Beomgyu and confess. He gives Jungkook a small wave and rushes out of the room.

Taehyun rushes through the crowd, eyes darting all over.
"Kai!" he finds the tall blonde in a group, "Have you seen Beomgyu?" Kai shakes his head and notices how frantic Taehyun is, "What happened?!"
"I screwed up big time, I need to find him" Taehyun rushes outside the party and notices Beomgyu walking out towards the sidewalk, he sprints towards him and grabs his arm, "Gyu!"
Taehyun is devastated by the empty look Beomgyu gives him when he finally turns toward him.

Beomgyu sniffles, "It's fine. You have a crush on him, right? I should be happy for you, but it hurts, Taehyun."

"Beomgyu, I-"

The older interrupts him, "I just need some space right now, Taehyun, I'm heading back to the dorms. Y-you should make sure Kai gets back safely."

"I can come with you, we can talk about all of this."
"Taehyun, I just need to be alone. I can't do this right now."
The younger freezes and is left standing alone as Beomgyu walks off.

Taehyun slowly walks back to sit down on the steps of the houseparty, thoughts racing through his mind.

I've liked Jungkook for awhile now, I finally had my chance with him and it felt like absolutely nothing. But with Beomgyu, I feel at home. I've never felt so comfortable with someone in my life. Is this more than just the shallow crush I had before?

His thoughts are interrupted as Kai settles down next to him.
"Did you find Beomgyu?"

"I-I did but, I messed up so bad Kai, I-" Taehyun struggles to speak, Kai pulls him into a hug.

"We can head back to the dorm, Tae, this party is getting a little loud, anyway."

Taehyun just nods as Kai pulls him to his feet and the two head back to the dorm building. Kai lets Taehyun stay silent until they reach their dorm.

Taehyun has changed into a hoodie and sweatpants and has been sitting with Kai on the couch, and his mind hasn't settled since he let Beomgyu walk away.
"You have to tell me what happened, Tae, I want to help you."
Kai finally asks Taehyun after sitting in silence since they returned.

Taehyun sighs.
"Beomgyu got pulled away by another trainee and while I was waiting for him in the kitchen, Jimin-hyung asked me to join a game of spin the bottle. Before I knew it I was alone in a room with Jungkook and he started kissing me."

"Oh my god?! But that's-that's amazing right?"

"That's how expected to feel, but Kai. I-" his eyes shift to the floor, "all I could think about at the time was Beomgyu. How everything feels right with him. Jungkook is so handsome and I've been crushing on him for awhile, but my feelings were completely shallow. The kiss with him felt like nothing. But with Beomgyu, this is cliché, but I really do feel those fireworks. And God, Kai-as soon as I realized all of this Beomgyu walked in on us. He didn't give me a chance to explain and I felt too awkward to push him anymore."

Kai covered his mouth in shock before pulling Taehyun into a hug.

"Kai, what if I ruined everything?"

"It'll be okay. You'll get to talk to him and explain everything, I promise."

"I can't just let him sit there and come up with some scenario and make everything worse than it already is." Taehyun runs his hand through his hair and sighs in frustration as he pulls his phone out.

Taehyun: can i come over?
Taehyun: pls let me explain everything
Beomgyu: :/
Beomgyu: it's fine tae
Beomgyu: i just need to process some stuff
Taehyun: theres been a misunderstanding
Taehyun: i need to talk to you
Several minutes pass as the typing dots appear and disappear until finally the notification dings.
Beomgyu: i'll leave the door unlocked..
Taehyun: see you soon
Message read.

Kai rubs Taehyun's shoulder and gives him a nod,
"You got this. Just be honest with him."
Taehyun exhales, "Right."

Chapter Text

Taehyun shifts his weight from foot to foot as he stands outside his best friend's dorm. He can do this. Everything will be alright. He can fix this. Beomgyu is worth it.

He pulls open the door, and heads to Beomgyu's bedroom, he can hear a gentle strum of a guitar. He walks into the room and the dejected look the older gives him hits him like a brick.
Beomgyu props the guitar against the wall and forces a smile.
"Hi Taehyun."

Taehyun flops onto the bed next to him and takes a deep breath, collecting himself before finally making eye contact.

"Beomgyu I-I am so sorry."
"Tae, we're best friends. We might mess around sometimes but I've known you've had a crush on Jungkook. I just li-it's a little hard accepting this. I am jealous...I can't help it. But I'm willing to get over it. I don't want to lose you over something as silly as a-a-" Beomgyu groans as he covers his face in embarrassment.

Taehyun takes Beomgyu's hand and the older's gaze fall to the ground.

"Beomgyu. I'm really sorry you had to see...that. I just-Jimin-hyung pulled me into a game, and I guess I had some liquid courage and went along with it. I'm, in a way, kind of glad it happened though."

Beomgyu looks a little offended as he pulls his hand away.
"That's great, dude. I'm really happy for you," he says dryly.
Taehyun grabs the older's face and continues.

"Let me finish. I'm glad it happened because it helped me realize what my feelings really were. My crush on Jungkook was completely superficial. I felt nothing when he kissed me. But with you..." Taehyun lets go of Beomgyu's face and covers his own as a shade of red creeps over his face.

Beomgyu places his hand onto Taehyun's thigh, "But with me..?"

"I-I-well you know I-" Taehyun bites his lower lip and exhales, realizing it's now or never to be completely honest.
"The feelings I tried to pass off as just us being really close friends were wrong. It's so much more than that, I feel safe with you, I can be myself with you and I know you'll never judge me. I have so much fun being with you," the younger's gaze finally flicker up and meet with Beomgyu's eyes.

"I really, really like you, Gyu."

Beomgyu starts tracing circles onto Taehyun's palm before finally speaking, "I've been pining after you since the moment I saw you. I just didn't think you wanted to be anything more than friends. I honestly thought I was processed the first time I just up and kissed you. I thought I'd be fine with just kissing you and staying friends, but after seeing you earlier...I realized I couldn't handle it. I want you Taehyun, I don't want anyone else kissing you."

"So...should we try...being together?" Taehyun looks towards the older expectantly.
Beomgyu pushes Taehyun backwards onto the mattress, swings a leg over his waist, straddling him. Beomgyu eyes over Taehyun before leaning in and kissing his neck over and over, then starts biting softly.
"Gyu..." Taehyun moans into his ear, "...is that a yes?"
Beomgyu sits up and rolls his eyes,
"Yes! Taehyunie, yes!" Beomgyu dives back down and slips his tongue into his now boyfriend's mouth.
The spark Taehyun has come so accustomed to fills his chest with warmth. The two continue to kiss but are interrupted by a text message tone erupting from Taehyun's pocket. They finally break the kiss, and Beomgyu slides off of Taehyun and lays next to him as the younger pulls his phone from his hoodie pocket.
"Oh my god how is it already 2am," Taehyun blurts out.
Beomgyu rubs his hand up and down Taehyun's arm before asking, "Do you want to stay here tonight? I mean, you know how dangerous the streets are at night."
Taehyun laughs, "Gyu I literally live down the hall."
Beomgyu gives him the biggest doe eyes, "Pretty please!"
Taehyun's heart races as he looks at his boyfriend.
"I'd-I'd love to...let me just text Kai."

Kai: is everything okay?
Taehyun: yes :)
