Work Text:
The halloween party was in full swing downstairs, but Jaune was on his own secret mission. In recent years his limited trick or treating success had been diminished by his girlfriend, who always requested (or rather demanded) her birthday share, like she did with everyone. But unfortunately for him, he was also taxed on ‘girlfriend privileges’ as well. But not this year, he had resolved.
He hadn’t even seen Ruby for most of the evening since his team made it back from trick or treating. Presumably she was off scoring her own share from all of their other friends. No matter, it had given him the perfect opportunity to save his candy for himself for once!
He crept quietly along the hallway until he reached his room. A quick glance both ways confirmed he was alone, and he slowly cracked the door open, slipping inside. Yes, he’d made it! All he had to do now was stash his candy under the bed, sneak back to the party and-
“Jaune!”
The lights flicked on, and Jaune shielded his eyes against the sudden brightness. His heart, however, sank as he recognised the voice, and turned to see Ruby standing by the light switch, glaring at him with as much intimidation as she could muster.
“Hey, Ruby,” he said as casually as possible, hiding his large bag behind his back.
“And just what do you think you’re doing?” she said, not buying his casual act at all.
“Oh me? I was just er…just trying to get away from the party. It’s all very loud, you know how I don’t do parties, one half of the socially awkward duo and all that!”
“Yes, sure,” she nodded slowly. “And what are you doing with that bag?”
“Bag? What bag?” he answered innocently as she began stalking towards him. Jaune glanced his eyes back towards the door, calculating his odds of escape.
Ruby however easily predicted him, and she used her semblance to dash past him and block the door, and his only means of escape. Before he could say anything else, she reached around him and snatched the bag from his hand, and began to rifle through it.
“Now let’s see…I’ll need to take this for the birthday tax,” Ruby declared as she pulled out a handful of candy. “And then this is for girlfriend privileges.” She pulled out an even bigger handful, then turned to look Jaune in the eye, as she dropped it all back in. “And then the rest will almost cover the betrayal. Do you have something to say to me?”
“Heh, eating that much candy will be bad for your teeth?” her glare intensified. “Sorry for…trying to keep all my candy to myself?”
She gave him a single nod. “That’s better.”
“Can I…leave then?”
She shook her head. “I don’t think you were listening. I said this almost covered the betrayal.”
Jaune gulped, as she reached back into the bag. “Oh look! Strawberry laces!” she stated as turned back to him, and started to menacingly stride towards him again, a devious smirk on her face.
“Oh, uh, how nice!” Jaune stammered, slowly backing away. He didn’t have far before he hit the bed, and he fell backwards onto it. “C-come on Ruby,” he tried to reason, having no idea what she had planned. “How about I give you all my halloween candy every year from now on?”
“Oh Jaune,” Ruby chuckled, smirking at him, “Just giving me the candy? Where would be the fun in that?”
Yang winced slightly as she barely heard a soft ‘thud’ from upstairs. Godspeed, vomit boy. Your sacrifice will not be in vain, she thought to herself, as Blake walked up behind her.
“The others want to know if we’re in the clear,” she said.
“Yep, we can consider Ruby distracted for the rest of the night. We might finally be able to get some Halloween candy for ourselves for once.”
As Yang turned to head back to the party, Blake said, “You know, Jaune won’t be happy if he finds out you snitched on him to Ruby.”
Yang shrugged, “Meh, we all get sweets, Ruby gets sweets, and I’m sure Jaune will get some sort of treat for his effort. In the end, everyone wins.”
