Chapter 1: The Beginning part 1

Chapter Text

It was a normal day in the small town of Brighton, specifically in the Brighton Middle School where all the young kids and preteens of the city come to be educated. The night before there was an event with a group of three girls who changed their world in an incredible way, without knowing that this would not be the only change that there would be.

One of those girls was Andrea Davenport, the daughter of the richest family in the entire city, whose life has been changed thanks to a new girl in town named Molly McGee, who teaches her to think more of others and to be kinder in general. The other girl, and the one with the big change the other night, was Libby Stein-Torres, the shy and anxious daughter of the owner of the local bookstore, she didn't have the best reputation at school and generally didn't have the better luck overall, that wouldn't be until Molly McGee became her best friend and helped her out of her shell. Both girls thank Molly for many things, especially making them connect in a way that two high school girls with two different social statuses never would before, even going to a sleepover.

That day at school, before the last class, Libby and Andrea ran into each other in the school hallway.

"Hello Andrea."

“Hi Libby, how have you been? Feeling fresher?" Andrea says, making Libby very uncomfortable.

"What are you doing? Do you want to talk about THAT in public?” Libby asks with a super red face.

"Relax. Everyone here is busy watching my latest video,” Andrea says as everyone watches the video of her opening makeup boxes.

“Wow. It still amazes me that videos about that can be so successful.”

"Well, some people can make it work and some people can't." Andrea says as she moves closer to Libby even more. "So you've been feeling better?"

"Yes actually. Thank you for helping me there."

"Don't worry girl, I'll always be there to support you in those situations." Andrea says in her positive attitude.

"Thank you Andrea." Libby says, with a somewhat sad face remembering how Andrea was before

"But tell me, how did your mom react when she found out the news?"

"Well..." Libby starts saying with some sorrow on her face. "When I got home I told her and she got really excited, saying I'm now officially 100% a woman or something along those lines."

"Good. In other unrelated news but I really need to tell you about somehow; I have tickets for a movie in the afternoon, you and Molly should join me to-” Andrea says until she is interrupted by Libby.

“About that,” Libby says, interrupting Andrea. “Molly told me she'd be watching her own movie marathon with…” Libby cuts herself off before revealing that she was with Scratch. "...Her family from her."

“Ahhh…” Andrea says with some disappointment. "Well, I guess I'll have to mo-"

“Andrea, wait. I think you could still use those tickets, but the two of us."

“I mean… you and me? together?”

"Well... yes, why not?"

"Well, this was going to be a me and Molly thing, but I think you could come along."

"Thank you?"

"You're welcome" Andrea says before leaving.

The class passed, a couple of hours later, and now in the cinema, Libby is waiting for Andrea, until she sees a luxury limousine, they knew that Andrea had already arrived with a butler.

"Hello Libby, great that you came." Andrea says once out of the limo.

"Of course. I've been trying to socialize lately and I think this would be a fantastic opportunity for-"

“Fantastic,” Andrea says, interrupting Libby. "Okay, ready for the movie?"

“Of course…” Libby says before falling into an awkward silence. "...and what movie are we going to see?"

"Oh yeah." Andrea says when she realizes that she never said which movie they would see. “It is a biopic about the creator of the first scooters.”

"Well... I didn't think you were interested in that kind of thing."

“I'm not, but I've seen a lot of reviews saying it's an almost perfect multi-dominance movie, so I had to see it.”

"Well, it's always good to see new things to see if-"

"Come on, it's about to start" Andrea says interrupting Libby, taking her arm to get to the cinema on time.
In the movie theater, both girls walk in and sit in the chair, Libby, Andrea, and Andrea's butler taking Molly's seat. Both girls were watching the movie while in the middle of it they realized something, they hated the movie. So they left in the middle of that with anger.

"I can't believe it, what did I just watch?" Says Andrea while leaving the cinema angrily.

"I know, don't those guys know how to focus a shot?" Libby says following Andrea.

“That was literally the most boring experience I've ever had in my entire life, and I have to put up with my parents' business meetings and social events every month.”

“Did they seriously have to romanticize the story of a guy who cheated on his co-workers and committed various crimes to create the scooters? I'm surprised they didn't turn this into a musical in the process."

“I'm going to give this thing a bad review in every possible place to save my Fandreas from seeing this thing. They will thank me." Andrea says as she takes the phone from her.

"Know? I'm glad Molly wasn't here right now, I wouldn't have wanted her to go through what we just went through."

“Come on Libby, Molly wouldn't have suffered for this. Knowing her she might have found something wonderful about the movie that she would show us."

"Well, I think she would have seen how everyone hated it and she would have made a whole plan to change the movie with something else."

"Yeah, she does that kind of thing a lot, isn't she sweet?"

"I don't know if I would use that word, but she totally is."

Outside the movie theater, Libby and Andrea began to talk more about Molly, the butler considered calling to bring Andrea home, but after seeing her talk to Libby he decided to wait until the movie was due to end. Time passed, almost 44 minutes, with Libby and Andrea talking about nothing except Molly.

"Gosh, Molly is amazing. Remember that talent show the school had?” Libby said.

"Of course. I won because of my incredible routine.”

"Yeah, good for you. But on that day I had a kind of stage fright where I didn't think I could even stand there, but thanks to Molly's support and honesty, I was able to stand there and show the world who Libby really was."

"That’s like so wonderful. I wasn't there because I was preparing to receive my trophy, but what you say sounds really nice."

"Yes, it was."

“Well, that's nothing from the time Molly-” Andrea cuts herself off, realizing that she almost revealed her charity scam to Libby.

"Molly what?"

"Well..." Andrea says a bit nervous trying to think of something. "...The time when Molly did a certain thing that saved me from a thing about the thing with me getting my reputation ruined by the thing before and making my parents feel a thing for me." Andrea ended up saying all that with a nervous face.

"Oookkaayyyy?" Libby responded with a confused face.

"But you know what's one of the best things Molly has ever done?"

"What?"

“That she made me connect with you.”

Libby was speechless for a moment until she said; "What?"

“I mean, since you said my name wrong and had that accident at my sleepover, I didn't want to know anything about you in my whole life, I even completely forgot about your existence sometimes. But, with Molly having the best ever, she's like a bridge between me and everyone else, and you Libby is everyone else."

"Thank you?" Libby says somewhat confused. "Look Andrea, I'm not going to lie, I've never connected with you that much until now, and I don't think I would have if it wasn't for Molly, and I'm glad I did." Libby says, making Andrea blush. "So on my huge list of things I'm grateful to Molly for, being your friend is one of those."

"Thank you. That was so beautiful of you." Andrea says with some flattery. “Again, I want to apologize for the third grade incident. I'm sorry for bothering you about that."

"It’s okay, I already told you that I forgive you."

"And for forbidding you from going to all the sleepovers after that."

"It’s fine, I was too scared to go to sleepovers for years anyway."

"And for making everyone at school call you "Miss Brown Pants" for months."

“Andrea. Please stop before you can't go back."

"Yeah, thanks for stopping me." Andrea says as she pulls out her phone and looks at the time. "Well, the movie should have ended by now, now they must come for me."

“Hey wait,” Libby says, interrupting Andrea as she leaves for her limo. “This has been a fantastic afternoon. Apart from the movie, I would like to return the favor.”

"Sure, where do you want to go?"

"No, I mean that I will take you somewhere."

"Wait, you invite me?"

"Yes, I know something you're going to like."

"Okay, give me a call... I guess." Andrea says with some confusion while she went to the limo.

Andrea didn't quite understand what just happened, she was never invited like that. Yes, she went to Molly's sleepover, but what Libby suggested to her was something more personal. And while Andrea was in her limo, heading to the mansion where she lived, she wondered; what could you give the girl who has everything?

XXXXXXX

The next day, after school, Andrea was in her locker to pick up her things and then look for Libby so she could take her where she wanted to go. When she opened her locker, she saw a note, took it and read it. “Miss Davenport, if you want to see something only two one person know about, be on the park of the town at 10pm and you'll see something unique. Signed, Libby.”

This was confusing, to say the least. Andrea was intrigued, before she wouldn't have cared or done something like this, but maybe she has something of Molly stuck in her because she decided to go there, regardless of all the security at home that she would have to dodge. …which wasn't much because it was her house and he had easy access to it.

It's night, Andrea is in the park with nothing but her phone's flashlight on her, looking everywhere for Libby, when she suddenly comes out of a bush and scares her a little.

"You came." Libby said excitedly coming out of the bush.

"OMG Libby, are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Andrea says something agitated by the frightened.

"I'm sorry Andrea, it's just that I wanted to be sure that no one had followed you or me."

"I already checked and no, and for your information, it was quite difficult to leave my house-"

“Wait,” Libby says, interrupting Andrea. "It's time."

Libby takes Andrea by the arm and leads her to a desolate part of the park. "I won't lie Libby, this being outside, especially at this time of night, isn't exactly my thing." Andrea says something annoyed. "Don't worry, we're here." Libby says to her as she opens up another rather large bush and shows Davenport a bunch of fireflies flying around them.

"Fireflies?" Andrea says confused.

“Yes, I discovered them a couple of years ago and since then I have been coming here at least twice a week.” Libby says, while Andrea continues to watch the fireflies in admiration.

“These look amazing.”

“I know you'd like it, I've only shown it to Molly and Scr-” Libby cuts herself off, almost mentioning Scratch. “Scrop. A turtle I had when I was little."

Andrea, still impressed by the fireflies, decides to take her phone and take a picture of them, but before that, Libby takes her hand, lowers it with the phone and says; "How about instead of taking a picture and experiencing it in the future, why don't you experience it now?" Andrea would normally be mad at Libby for touching her phone, but she wasn't, because she heard her and saw the fireflies like she'd never seen them before.

For a whole hour, Libby and Andrea were looking at them in various ways, they just sat on the floor while they looked at her, they ran and almost danced around the place while the fireflies were with them or followed them, among many other things. At that moment they were not thinking very clearly, they were living in the moment, that's why at one point they even held hands and began to walk around the field while the glow of the fireflies made them both see each other with a brilliance that could never be seen. They had seen each other since before. And after all that, both girls just lay on the floor laughing a little, after a whole night full of joy and emotions.

"Libby, that was magical!" Andrea said on the floor with a light and relaxed tone of voice. “Thank you so much for introducing me to this.”

"I knew that you would like it." Libby said also on the ground and with a long smile not like anything seen before.

"You know? You are too much like these fireflies."

"Really? How?"

"You illuminate my life." Andrea said, causing Libby to blush.

"Well, you are amazing too Andrea, you are the 'G' in OMG, but instead of God, you are my Goddess." Libby said, making Andrea blushes too.

"Wow, thank you."

After that, Libby and Andrea looked at each other for almost a whole minute, going as far as looking directly into each other's eyes. After that, they both looked away from each other while they blushed even more with both feeling very embarrassed.

"Well..." Andrea said, getting up with some awkwardness and nerves. “This was fun but I have to go home and go to sleep, I have to maintain this complexion with my beauty sleep.”

"Yes, I have to go too, I have to help my mom with the bookstore tomorrow and I can't stay up all night." Libby said as she got up nervously and clumsily.

After they both gave each other an awkward handshake and said goodbye, they both headed home in the two most opposite directions possible. Upon reaching their homes and opening the doors to enter, they both walked the corridors of their places to get to their rooms and sleep, but along the way they have many thoughts in their heads, but the biggest one that did not leave them alone was;

"D- do I have a crush on Libby/Andrea?"
