Work Text:

The bell rang and Enid didn't know who was more eager for the end of the day, her or the students. It's not that she hated teaching or anything but it was Friday and she was looking forward to picking up Thing from doggy daycare and having some quality time with her wife. They had barely seen each other that week and that was just very homophobic in Enid's opinion. She expertly dodged students as they milled about towards the exit and she went the opposite way, towards Wednesday's class.

"Bye Ms. Sinclair!"

She waved at a couple students, her smile getting bigger the closer she got to the literature department. Wednesday's door was open and there was a small group, mostly girls, giggling and whispering between themselves as they looked inside. Enid couldn't help quickening her steps as curiosity got the best of her. She stopped abruptly right by the door as she saw Xavier Thorpe, the other art teacher, casually leaning against Wednesday's mahogany desk. Wednesday's face was as impassive as ever but Enid was an expert in reading her and could see how tense her shoulders were, which meant she was probably annoyed and Enid should intervene before things escalated.

"Ms.Sinclair! Don't go in, Mr. Thorpe is asking Ms. Addams out on a date!" one of the kids said, followed by more giggling.

"He's doing what ?" Enid's voice went a little higher than she liked at the last word but who could blame her, the pretentious ass was hitting on her wife!

"He has a crush on Ms. Addams!"

Enid couldn't even identify which kid was talking as they all giggled again, and before she had even made a conscious decision her feet were carrying her into the classroom.

"...So, what do you think? I promise it's more interesting than it sounds."

She only caught the end of his sentence but his tone of voice and eager eyes were enough to set Enid's teeth on edge. She had never really liked Xavier, he was too pretentious for her liking and acted like he was better than her because he taught High School kids while she tended to the younger ones. And seeing him hitting on her wife was definitely not helping Enid feel any warm feelings towards him.

"I'm sure it must be, Mr. Thorpe, although I don't understand what that has to do with me."

Enid couldn't hold back a small smile at Wednesday's words, apparently she hadn't picked up on Xavier's flirting yet. She considered letting this go on to see what her wife would do when she did pick up on his lame attempts but she was tired of delaying their weekend plans already.

"Hey, honey, ready to go?"

Enid wrapped an arm around Wednesday's waist and pressed a kiss to her cheek. They weren't big on PDA on school grounds, especially Wednesday, she liked for them to keep some professionalism, but Enid figured she was allowed this small sign of affection considering the situation. By the way Wednesday leaned back against her she didn't seem to mind, maybe because it was after hours.

"Yes. We should hurry, Thing does hate when we are late for pick up."

Enid grinned, thinking about their weird but lovable pup. "He sure does. Oh, hi, Xavier, I didn't see you there."

Xavier was blinking at them like she had just asked him to solve a very complicated equation. Wednesday finished packing her papers into her briefcase and offered her arm for Enid to hold on to, completely oblivious to the gaping man.

"See you Monday, Thorpe!"

Enid couldn't help the little smirk that pulled at her mouth as she waved cheerily. The small group of kids at the door were all doing a pretty great interpretation of Xavier's dumb face, except for one girl who was staring at them with a giddy smile. Enid didn't know her but made a mental note to find out who she was, she liked to make sure the queer kids were properly looked after and that girl's look was definitely coming from a baby queer.

"Enid," Wednesday said as they exited the school towards their car. "Why were you acting so strange back there?"

"Me? I was acting perfectly normal!"

Wednesday's silent stare was enough to get Enid to crack and she chuckled.

"I was just subtly telling Xavier Thorpe to back off." She shrugged and slid into the driver's seat before her wife could protest.

"Enid, I'm driving."

"Nope! It's my turn, Weds. You drove this morning. Come on, Thing is waiting!"

Wednesday made a show of rolling her eyes and sighing before opening the door to the passenger side and sliding in. Enid pulled her in by her jacket's lapel and pressed a quick kiss to her wife's cold lips.

"Don't be grumpy, Weds, it's Friday!"

Wednesday rolled her eyes again and settled in for their ride to Thing's day care.

"What did you mean you were telling Thorpe to back off?"

Enid hid a smile behind her hair, once again thankful she had let it grow a little longer this year. She loved how Wednesday wouldn't let a subject go until she understood everything about it.

"Weds, he was trying to ask you out!"

"He was? Why would he do that? I'm obviously married."

Enid laughed. "I don't think anyone but Yoko knows that, honey."

"How? I know they must have at least one brain cell between them all to be able to teach, it shouldn't be hard to figure out a simple fact."

"I don't think it's as obvious as you think. You wear your ring on a chain that is mostly hidden by your shirt and we don't really act all coupley at work." Enid turned into Thing's day care's street. "There's also the fact that I completely forgot to submit all the paperwork to get my name changed to Addams."

"I knew I should've done that myself. I'll be looking into it when we get home, I already have to deal with pubescent teenagers asking me stupid questions all day, I don't need stupid teachers doing the same."

Enid giggled. "Of course Weds. It's past time I ditched the Sinclair name anyways."

As she jumped out of the car, a huge smile already on her lips as she saw Thing's tiny frame shake with excitement and straining against his leash, Enid sent a happy thanks to whatever deity was looking after her and allowed her to have this little family that she loved more than life itself.

Notes:

I had a random idea about them being teachers and being shipped by their students and this happened. Hope you guys enjoyed!
