Work Text:
Wonwoo sighs as he exits out of his frankly insane amount of tabs and shuts down his laptop for the day. He winces as he straightens up in his seat, grabbing onto the armrests and twisting left and right, the pops coming from his spine nothing but satisfying.
“Heading home?” Seungcheol calls out from the desk across from him with a knowing smile. He’s shifting from foot to foot behind his standing desk like he can’t sit still, glancing at the bottom corner of his screen where the time shows 3:20 pm. “Gotta love those new dad perks.”
Wonwoo can’t help the besotted smile on his face as he pushes on his desk's remote and moves it to the base position. “Yeah, I’m gonna finish up this report from home. Seokmin keeps scolding me for going home early but I don’t really wanna leave him alone for too long.”
“Hyung, don’t worry about the report,” Seungkwan says from his seat next to Wonwoo. He puffs up his cheeks and takes a sip of his coffee, straw tucked snugly in his pout. “Just focus on playing house with your husband and your sweet little girl. We can handle a little bit more work, okay?”
“Oh, Seungkwannie,” Wonwoo teases, swinging his laptop bag over his shoulder, “you’re so sweet to hyung. This is why you’re my favorite dongsaeng.” He chuckles softly when Seungkwan gives him a mischievous smile. He calls out his goodbyes to the rest of the team in their little corner of the floor and then makes his way out of the building towards the subway station.
Once he’s in the subway car, he takes a minute to shoot a text to Seokmin.
To: Seokmin ❤️
Do we need anything from the store? Gonna stop by on my way home.
He’s putting on his earbuds, IU’s soft voice just starting to ring in his ears when Seokmin replies.
To: wonu~ ❤️
mmm i think we just need more formula
oh!! and can u bring more pineapple? a ripe one pls!
u always pick them the best 😇
Wonwoo lets out a soft hum and adds pineapple and formula to the list he has in his notes app, right below perilla leaves, potatoes, toothpaste, and trash bags.
To: Seokmin ❤️
Okay, baby. Love you ❤️
Seokmin replies with a string of hearts and kissing emojis and Wonwoo lets out a small huff of laughter as he pockets his phone, watching people hop off and on the subway car at the various stations.
His good mood persists throughout his commute and into his grocery trip, even as he weaves in between people in the crowded grocery store. He manages to get all the items from the list, as well as a box of Seokmin’s favorite cookies and a packet of sour candy for himself, in just under 15 minutes. He hums to himself as he walks the remaining three blocks to their apartment building, picking up the pace when it comes into view.
He shifts all the grocery bags into one hand as he exits the elevator and presses the keycode of the door with his now free hand. When he opens the door, he sees Seokmin laying on his side on the floor of their living room, their daughter laying on a soft blanket next to him and an idol music program playing softly in the background. Seokmin looks up when Wonwoo walks in, surprise painting his features along with the afternoon sun shining through the open blinds.
“I’m home,” Wonwoo calls softly, toeing off his shoes and pushing his feet into his slippers. He grins when Seokmin sits up quickly, mouth still parted in surprise. “You’ll catch flies if you don’t close your mouth, baby.”
“I thought I said you didn’t need to leave work early!” Seokmin says, a small pout beginning to form on his lips. He watches as Wonwoo sets down the groceries on the kitchen counter and makes his way to the living room, unbuttoning his polo and pulling it out from where it’s tucked into his slacks. Wonwoo moves to sit down next to Seokmin, leaning in close to kiss his cheek softly.
“I know I don’t need to leave work early, I just wanted to,” he mumbles into Seokmin’s cheek, pressing another kiss onto the mole that he loves so much. “I wanted to see my babies.”
At that, Seokmin melts, his smile pushing his cheeks up and his eyes scrunching up in happiness. Wonwoo can’t resist pecking the beautiful wrinkles at the corner of his eyes. “Okay,” he says conceding, “but only if you’re sure it’s okay.”
Wonwoo hums and waits for Seokmin to turn towards him fully to give him a proper kiss. Seokmin sighs into the kiss, tilting his head slightly for Wonwoo to press more firmly. Wonwoo watches as Seokmin’s eyelids flutter closed and he reaches up to caress his cheek, guiding him right where he wants him.
They’re interrupted from going any further when they hear babbling from the baby on the floor in front of them. They laugh as they pull away, Seokmin pecking Wonwoo on the corner of his mouth before turning to pick up their daughter.
“Look who’s home, darling,” he says sweetly, turning her so she can look at Wonwoo. “It’s Wonwoo appa!”
“Seohyun-ah,” Wonwoo coos, reaching out and grabbing her from Seokmin carefully. She continues babbling even when Wonwoo presses a light kiss on her forehead and he laughs when she reaches out and starts trying to grab at his nose. “I missed my sweet girl. Were you nice to Seokmin appa today?”
Seokmin shuffles so he’s leaning against Wonwoo’s shoulder, nuzzling the slope of his neck slightly and reaching out to stroke Seohyun’s soft hair. “She was amazing today. Hyung, we seriously have the best baby in the whole entire world and I swear I’m not being biased. Like, yeah, she cries but she’s quick to settle down from her fits and she falls asleep in five seconds flat. The only thing is she eats like crazy. That’s why I asked you to get more formula, she’s nearly cleared the can we bought last week!”
“The doctor said we can introduce her to solid foods now,” Wonwoo says, Seohyun now laying on his lap with her head cushioned on his crossed ankles. He strokes a hand up and down her belly smiling when she lets out a little sigh and kicks her little legs out. “We can start with things like mashed fruits and veggies and slowly get her to drink less milk.”
Seokmin smiles, watching Wonwoo respond to Seohyun’s babbles like she can understand him (“And did you have nice dreams during your nap today?” “Bah, bah, bah.” “Oh, that sounds like a very interesting dream, Seohyunnie.”) and then he stands, making his way towards the kitchen and putting away the groceries.
“Do you wanna try some bananas? I think you’ll really like them,” Wonwoo murmurs to Seohyun, picking her up and holding her to his chest as he carefully stands up from the floor. He makes his way into the kitchen and sees that Seokmin has already begun cutting up the pineapple into small chunks and putting them in a small bowl. Wonwoo sets Seohyun in her high chair and then moves next to Seokmin with a banana and one of the special bowls they bought for Seohyun’s meals.
They work in comfortable silence, Seohyun’s babbles and coos filling the air like music to their ears. Once Wonwoo’s done mashing the banana, he grabs the tiniest pink spoon in existence (this particular spoon had made Seokmin cry a little when they first saw it in the store nearly nine months ago now) and pulls up a chair in front of Seohyun’s high chair.
“Okay, Seohyun’s first taste of banana,” Wonwoo says, scooping a bit of the banana onto the spoon. He’s about to hold it up to her mouth when he hears Seokmin stop chopping and tells him to wait a minute. He watches, bemused, as Seokmin rushes to grab his phone from the living room, unlocking it and opening his camera while he rushes back into the kitchen.
“You’re funny,” Wonwoo chuckles, mushing the banana just a little bit more as he hears the shutter of the camera go off and then the little noise signaling the start of a video.
“I have to get these milestones on camera!” Seokmin says indignantly. Wonwoo can tell he wants to pout but he’s smiling so hard at their precious girl that he couldn’t even if he tried. “She’ll only ever try banana once in her life.” He holds his phone to make sure both Wonwoo and Seohyun are in frame.
Wonwoo scoops some banana onto the tiny spoon and holds it up to Seohyun’s mouth. “Say ahhh, Seohyun-ah,” he says, opening his own mouth wide for her to mimic. He prods her lips with the spoon until she opens her mouth and chews as well as she can with just her gums. Seokmin and Wonwoo watch with bated breath as she smacks her lips together, eventually breaking into a wobbly smile, wiggling her little arms and legs with glee.
“Is it yummy, darling?” Seokmin asks, the force of his grin pitching his voice up. Wonwoo takes a thumb and pushes some banana that fell onto her chin back into her mouth, cooing when she sucks in the mush eagerly. Seokmin films Wonwoo feed her one more spoonful of banana before ending the video and pressing sweet little kisses all over her face, laughing when she shrieks with delight.
“My sweet girl, growing so fast! Already eating her first fruit,” he leaves her with one final kiss on a chubby cheek and goes back to the counter where his pineapple sits in a bowl. Wonwoo watches him chop the last bit of pineapple into chunks, totally enamored, only going back to his task when Seohyun reaches out and tries to grab the bowl from his hands.
He’s halfway through the bowl when Seokmin appears holding a piece of pineapple up to his lips. The juice shines as it runs down his hand and onto his wrist, Seokmin telling him to hurry or he’ll get sticky, and Wonwoo opens his mouth to be fed. He makes a delighted noise as he chews, “It’s sweet.”
“I told you, you always pick the best ones,” Seokmin says as he chews on his own piece. He feeds Wonwoo another piece, watching Seohyun and Wonwoo with a smile. When he glances at Wonwoo, he finds that he’s already looking at him, that fond look in his eye that he’s had since they were dumb college students. When Wonwoo scoots back slightly and pats his thigh, Seokmin doesn’t protest and takes a seat on his lap, leaning back on his husband’s strong, sturdy chest.
It’s a little impractical with Wonwoo having to maneuver around Seokmin, especially when he gets another piece of pineapple pressed to his lips, but they make it work. As they cheer when Seohyun finishes the bowl of banana, he thinks that if you told the him of seven years ago that he’d be sitting in his kitchen with Lee Seokmin from his Algebra 2 class and their six month old daughter celebrating her first taste of fruit, he probably wouldn’t believe you.
Now, with the weight of Seokmin and Seohyun in his lap and the taste of pineapples and Seokmin’s mint chapstick on his tongue, there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
