After the debate, everyone walked over to a big building. They were told that this house was built to celebrate Wilbur's return. Jaiden stepped inside of the building and looked around. There was music, laughter and dancing, she walked off to the side.
She heard the rumors and the nightmare incident with the code monster has put her in a place where she knows no one trusts her much because of her past actions. She sighs holding a little cup in her hand when she hears little footsteps run at her. She turns to look and finds Pomme there. Jaiden smiled a warm smile.
Jaiden loves Pomme like her own little sister. This little girl had captured her heart just like Tallulah and Leonarda had. Looking at Pomme and other eggs, she remembers Bobby. She had started to wonder if she should still work with Cucurucho after all that has happened.
“Hello Pomme! What brings you here? Shouldn’t you be with one of your parents?” Jaiden asked crouching down to Pommes level to see her better.
Pomme gave Jaiden a big smile, her eyes sometimes sifting to look behind Jaiden. Jaiden chuckled at that. The reason Pomme was looking behind Jaiden was because she had 2 really big wings. The wings were all black but you could see little stars and purple lines going in her wings.
“Do you want to touch them again? They are soft as you probably remember from before” Jaiden said with a gentle smile.
Pomme was smiling more brightly and Jaiden extended one of her wings to Pomme who then slowly started to play with the feathers of the wings. Jaiden chuckled at that and went back drinking the juice from her cup. That was then when Forever came to speak to her. While they were speaking with each other they didn’t notice Ramón running into the building and dragging Fit outside.
Few of the people had started to leave the house because they noticed that Wilbur wasn’t there. Jaiden was with Pomme and she tugged Jaiden’s sleeve. Jaiden turned to look down at Pomme to ask if everything was ok. Pomme was holding a cage with something inside of it and she reached her arms up towards Jaiden.
“Oh you have a gift for me? Let me see” Jaiden said and as her fingers touched the corners of the cage she heard a hissing sound coming from behind her.
And as the time turned into slow motion, her eyes widened. She didn’t have any armor on, the sound was so close, too close. Jaiden knew she had little to no time to think. The door wasn’t close enough for them to run and she could hear one of the capybaras making funny noises as if to make fun of them.
Jaiden grabbed hold of Pomme and pulled her close to her chest, closing her wings around her. She put her hands on Pomme’s ears to protect her from the bigger effects of the blast. Before she could hide her face she felt an explosion go off and her face burn. She felt the fire burn her wings but she didn’t let go of Pomme, she couldn’t fail her and Baghera again. Even as the TNT burnt her wings, she couldn’t let go. She’d never forgive herself if she couldn’t protect an egg, like when she couldn’t protect her own son.
She could hear the distant scream of Antoine, he was calling for Pomme. His scream reminded her of her on that tree she sat the day she had fully lost Bobby, that day she promised herself she’ll never let a parent feel the same pain as she did. The fear and agony in his voice were too close for comfort.
Jaiden would have moved closer to the exit but even if her ears were ringing she still felt explosions going around her. She was holding Pomme tighter so her ears were fully covered. Finally as the TNT explosions started to calm down she turned to look down at Pomme. When she did this, she could see her eyes looking back at her, she could see small tear stains but when she quickly looked over Pomme there wasn't any big damage she could see.
Jaiden didn’t feel much of her wings, the ringing was still in her ears but soon she felt a touch on her shoulder. She flinched but looked up and saw Forever there and next to him was Etoiles and Baghera. Jaiden opened her wings and she put her hands shakily under Pomme’s armpits and lifted her towards Baghera.
As Baghera grabbed Pomme, Jaiden felt her energy leave her body and she fell to the ashy floor almost not hearing the screams of her friends begging for her to stay awake. She closed her eyes and fell into the dream world, finally in peace knowing Pomme is safe.
Jaiden woke up in the flower field. Looking around she sighed and put her hand on her face but quickly flinched her hand away. Even if she had respawned, she felt a big explosion scar on her face. She looked at her wings and saw a few feathers missing and some feathers bended. She pulled out her comms and saw people freaking out.
“Pomme..!” Jaiden screamed and ran to her waystone. Soon, as she reached the teleport, she realized she didn’t have levels to go back. She went to her house, the pain of the movements were strong but she needed to make sure Pomme was ok. She went back to the waystone when she had a few more levels and teleported to spawn.
She ran to the blast site. She looked around, there was nothing left. She could feel the shock setting in. She looked to her left and saw Fit walking to her. She waved at Fit before looking where her stuff could be.
“Hey Jaiden, are you ok?” Fit asked and she nodded and went to go get all of her stuff back. as she came out of the pit there was Bahgera waiting for her. She couldn’t fully read her face but it was a mix between shock and gratitude.
“Thank you Jaiden.. You saved Pomme, you saved her” she said and pulled Jaiden in for a hug. Jaiden hugged back with a smile on her face.
“It was the least I could do, my dear friend”
