Chocolates, (for you idiot!)

Summary:

After finding out he had fallen in love with probably THE MOST stupid, weird looking, lame-ass-traffic-safety-earring boy, Mitsuba had decided to confess by giving the boy in question a box of chocolates.

Notes:

Hiii!! This is actually my first work for TBHK/JSHK, so I just wanted to add a little warning; this is probably horribly OOC. I tried-- anyway, Mitsukou hijinks are the best, I love these two so much, so enjoy just a short little one shot that I came up with kind of out of nowhere. This is probably one of my fics with the least grammatical errors, so, yaaay(?)

Work Text:

Mitsuba took a deep breath. Yeah, he could do this! He was the Mitsuba Sousuke– naturally, anyone he deemed worth dating must like him back, right? He was irresistible.

Even so, he still felt a little nervous– not that it would matter, no one could reject him. Nothing to worry about.

He took a peek inside the bag he was holding, as if the contents would have somehow disappeared while he was thinking. The familiar box of chocolates he had bought the night before still lay inside, the one which he had painstakingly decorated with a few brightly colored gel-pens and adorned with a label that read 'To Minamoto-Kun.'

He muttered quietly– it was still a mystery to himself as to how the hell he of all people fell for such a lame idiot, but it had happened somewhere along the line, so he might as well do something about it, huh? That's how he had found himself standing beside Minamoto's locker, early before school started. Minamoto always got to school early– probably something to do with his brother being student Council president– so here's to hoping that he would manage to confess his feelings early before anyone could witness such an embarrassing feat.

And just as he suspected, when he looked up, Minamoto was making his way over to where Mitsuba was standing. Yes, barely anyone around– it was now or never.

Finally, Minamoto had made his way up to him, but before he could ask what Mitsuba was doing, he shoved the bag into the blonde's hands. Minamoto tilted his head.

"Take it." Mitsuba said forcefully, looking down.

Wow, how graceful.

However confident he was in his own looks and abilities, that had been a horrible confession. He could've done better– what had come over him? It must've been Minamoto's stupid-ass earring distracting him– or maybe it was his dumb barf-worthy face. At least, that's what he'd say to make himself feel better.

After a few moments of confusion, Minamoto finally decided to take a peek inside the bag. It didn't take him long to realize what was going on.

"Oh."

That was the most unenthusiastic reaction he could've had–!

Minamoto's eyebrows raised as he looked between what was presumably the tag on the box and Mitsuba.

"Is that all you have to say!?" Mitsuba exclaimed, trying to mask how nervous he was. Honestly, he was panicking– this was probably the worst case scenario. Who reacted to a gift (and technically confession) like that!?

"I– well I'm just surprised. You didn't seem like the type to.. I mean, I.. You and.. Oh. "

He paused, and then shrugged.

Mitsuba could feel his heart sinking. No, no no no no.. This couldn't be happening. Minamoto didn't seem at all happy, or even flustered– BAD news. He couldn't even gauge what Minamoto was feeling– he had such a non -reaction.

Could this have ruined everything? It was one thing to get rejected, but possibly losing one of his few friends? Well– not like he couldn't make more, haha.. But it still wasn't a good feeling!

"Uhm. Well.. So?"

Was it just him or did Minamoto frown a tiny bit? Oh god, he was in for it now– this was quite possibly the stupidest decision he had ever–

"Uh, yeah! I'll give it to Teru-nii later."

…

what.

"What?" Mitsuba repeated out loud.

"What do you mean 'what?' Isn't that what this is for? You don't have to be embarrassed or anything, I get stuff like this for him all the time, though, he probably doesn't feel the same way, but I'm sure he'll like the cho-"

"That isn't for Minamoto- senpai !" Mitsuba groaned, stomping his foot out of frustration. Again, he had to wonder how the hell he fell for such a hopeless dumbass.

"Huh?" Minamoto looked at him with another confused gaze.

Is he going to make me spell out for him!?

Mitsuba put his face in his hands, slightly muffling what he said next;

"It's for you."

"... ohhh. "

The same word, and yet somehow a completely different connotation. Instead of sounding distant, he sounded fond, and maybe even a little bit disbelieving. Most definitely a better reaction than before.

"Mitsuba-kun.."

"Yeah..?" He removed his hands from his face, but never took his eyes off the ground.

"Do you like me?" He asked, a grin on his face. Mitsuba scoffed.

"What–!? You can't be this oblivious! You just want the delight of hearing a cute boy like me saying he has a crush on you!"

Another arrogant remark from his end, though he probably wasn't fairing well in this affair, considering he could practically feel how red his face was. It was all Minamoto's stupid fault anyway– he was the one dragging this out by being dense.

"Maybe."

Mitsuba's head shot up at the response.

"Wh-what– I knew it along! You're just a pervert trying to get me to say things you want to hear! "

"Wait– that's not what I was admitting to! Besides, weren't you the one who brought me the chocolates to begin with?"

"W-well–! I-I–!" Mitsuba sputtered, trying to come up with reasons as to why he was still right– at this point, the situation was downright mortifying. "Wh-whatever! Are you gonna take the stupid gift or not!?"

Minamoto laughed.  "Yeah, I'll make sure to eat these later."

"Well–! They w-were store bought anyway, so whatever!" Mitsuba stuck out his tongue at Minamoto, but before he could get a response, he ran off, leaving Minamoto giggling, awestruck, and maybe even a bit flustered.
