Chapter 1: The Start
Chapter Text
When they had first decided to start a family, Enid was ecstatic that they were on the same page. Wednesday of course had her reservations regarding whether or not she would make a good mother but after countless nights of talking and a few therapist sessions she was just as ready as Enid.
After almost five years of marriage and nearly ten years together it was time to plant roots, so to speak. Enid had always seen herself as a mother since she was a young girl. She imagined giving her kids the life she never had. To love and support them no matter what. To value them as human beings.
She had no doubt in her mind that Wednesday would make a wonderful mother. She is knowledgeable in most things and her protectiveness is a strength. Of course, Gomez and Morticia would be the perfect grandparents as well. Morticia had pestered them about the wedding countless times but never about kids.
Morticia had handmade all of the floral arrangements for their wedding, even decorating the arch at the end of the aisle. Wednesday had thanked her mother with red painting her cheeks, an outwardly symptom of embarrassment that she blamed on allergies.
She had never asked if they were planning to start a family. Enid thinks she avoids the line of question to avoid angering Wednesday. The other reason being that Pugsley and his wife had just had a baby a few weeks ago.
It hadn’t surprised anyone when Pugsley had married his high school sweetheart showering her in love, attention and of course gifts. He would give that girl the moon if she asked. So, for them starting a family so quickly made sense.
Their new niece had stirred a bit of baby fever in Enid that had been lying dormant for a few years. As long as she has Wednesday, she is content, but seeing her wife hold that little girl so gently. Rocking the baby slightly while speaking to her in such a soft voice. It had painted all kinds of pictures in her head.
Pictures of Wednesday holding a baby of their own. Wednesday walking around the house with their child on her hip, a child with freckles across their nose and dark hair. She sees Wednesday working on her latest book with the kid in her lap, explaining the importance of good grammar.
It’s what initially made her bring up the topic with her wife who was surprised she hadn’t brought it up earlier. They had talked about kids a few times while they were dating, once in college and again when they had moved in together.
Enid had been ready to plead her case and convince the dark-haired woman to hear her out but before she could even bring out the power point Wednesday had tentatively agreed. The longer discussions and therapy sessions had been her conditions, she wanted to make sure that every base had been covered.
Enid had already thought of a lot of the things that Wednesday brought up like finances, who would be allowed to look after the baby, and possible health conditions. Enid had spent a lot of time already planning out which of their spares rooms would make the best nursery and what school they would enroll the little one in.
Wednesday was impressed and after all of these years it still fills Enid with joy to know that she can do what others cannot in regards to her wife.
So, on a Tuesday morning Enid finds herself in a thin hospital gown holding Wednesday’s hand and going through one of the first big steps of IVF. They had already been doing all of the treatments and taking all of the various vitamins and supplements before this to give her a better chance at getting pregnant, but Enid was still nervous. With the way Wednesday was squeezing her hand she must be nervous too.
“That’s all ladies. You should know for sure in about two weeks. If you have any questions or feel any discomfort, feel free to call.”
“Thank you, Doctor.”
On the drive back to their home Wednesday is quiet, which isn’t unusual, but Enid wants more than anything to hear her voice right now.
“Do you think we will have a boy or a girl?”
“Do you want a scientific probability based off our sperm donor or what I hope for?”
“Both.”
Wednesday looks at her for a moment, taking her eyes off of the road for no more than three seconds.
“Very well. Statistically we are more likely to have a boy but personally I don’t mind either. Do you have a preference?”
“No. I just want them to be healthy. Oh, and to have your hair.”
Wednesday chuckles a little, it shakes her chest and Enid feels most of her worries disappear.
“While the odds are in your favor for that I am partial to them having a much lighter shade of hair, similar to yours.”
When they get home Wednesday jogs around the car to open her car door and lead them to the front of the house. She had always been chivalrous but with the possibility of her carrying their child you could never be too careful.
They put off calling Wednesday’s parents, they don’t want to tell anyone until they are sure that the baby is growing healthy like they’re supposed to. The only one of their friends to know is Bianca and that’s only because the girl had helped them find a gynecologist.
Wednesday cooks that night, a tasty meal ate on the couch with some documentary playing in the background. Enid has an overwhelming feeling that this is the start of forever.
W&E
The two weeks pass by slowly and impossibly fast at the same time. She spends her days helping teenagers work through their problems both emotionally and literally. Some of the harder chemistry and math problems she sends to Wednesday to get a better explanation for.
She’s been a school counselor for almost three years now and she loves almost every minute of it. She went into this wanting to help people and she feels that is exactly what she is doing. Students come to her with problems that range from needing a class change to wanting to run away from home.
She helps all of them to the best of her ability and at the end of the day she goes home both hopeful and slightly distraught. With all of its downs there were so many more ups. Like the happiness at helping a student who didn’t think they graduate get their diploma. Or having a student that has struggled with an ED for years eat two pieces of toast opposed to one.
Enid finds that sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most and that’s what helps her get through the awful, suspenseful two-week wait.
On the day of their appointment to see if the treatment had worked, she had a student walk in right after the final bell had rung. Enid had already been putting her things away, but she stopped when she noticed Autumn standing in her doorway.
Autumn was a sophomore who had been coming to talk to her since the beginning of her freshman year. She was a pretty girl with red hair and brown eyes, she played the piano and excelled in her academics. The girl was also painfully shy which is what led her to spend some of her lunches and free periods in Enid’s office.
“Hey Autumn. How can I help you?”
“You’re probably busy, it can wait until tomorrow.”
“Are you sure?”
Enid didn’t want to be late to their appointment, but she also had a responsibility to look after these kids. Autumn won’t meet her eyes now, nervously twitching her hands.
“Yeah. I’ll just come talk to you tomorrow morning before class.”
“Okay. Be safe going home.”
Enid watched her walk down the hallway for a minute before continuing to gather her things. She called Wednesday on the walk to her car.
“I may be a few minutes late.”
“Everything okay?”
“Yep. I’ll see you in a few. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
She makes it to the doctor in no time and finds a spot right next to her wife's black vintage Chevrolet 150. It was a graduation gift from her father and Wednesday treasured it right along with her typewriter.
She spots her wife almost immediately as soon as she walks in. She walks over to the front desk to sign in, but she sees Wednesday had beaten her to it. Her wife takes her purse from her the moment she is within reaching distance.
“How was your day love?”
“It was fine other than Brady’s geometry homework, it gave me a headache for most of the morning. The school needs to hire a math tutor.”
“How does your head feel now?”
“It’s fine.”
Wednesday hums and nods in acknowledgement pushing some of the free strands of hair behind Enid’s ear.
“Did you get a lot of writing done?”
“I finished a couple of chapters before the imbeciles across the street decided it was a good time to start mowing their lawn.”
“I have a feeling you’re beginning to resent me for convincing you to buy a home in the suburbs.”
Wednesday huffs sitting back in the uncomfortable waiting room chair and crossing her arms over her chest.
“I do not resent you. I despise them. It’s nearly winter, I don’t understand why anyone would be attempting to cut their grass this late in the year.”
Halfway through her ramble and nurse opens the door to their right poking her head out.
“Enid Addams.”
They both stand in sync and make their way to the kind looking woman. They get put in the same examination room they were put in last time and the nurse wastes no time in getting a sample from her.
They sit in that sterile room for what feels like an hour before they hear a knock on the door. When Wednesday says that they can enter their doctor comes strolling in with a clipboard and a smile.
“I’m sure you’re both eager for the results so I won’t make you wait any longer. Congratulations ladies you're pregnant.”
Enid cries. She lets the tears flow down her face and onto her pants and when she looks to her side Wednesday has a few tears of her own making their way to her cheeks. They hug tighter than ever before and when Wednesday releases her she hugs their doctor.
The older woman lets out a surprised squeak before patting her on the back lightly. With all of her tears wiped, she calms down enough to listen to the instructions clearly. Not that it matters seeing as Wednesday has been reading pregnancy books for months prior to them starting treatment.
“I’ll see you two again a month from now unless there are complications then you can call me before.”
They go back to the front desk to confirm their next appointment and then they separate in the parking lot to drive home in their individual cars. Wednesday beats her home and although she tries not to be smug about it the grin on her face says it all. Everything is a competition but that is what keeps their relationship interesting.
W&E
The possibility of her wife being pregnant versus the knowledge that her wife is pregnant gives her very different feelings. Before she was anxious and nervous, now fear conquers everything else. She wants a family with Enid, but she also knows that childbirth can be traumatic, and she wants no harm to come to her wife.
She had been over preparing herself to combat the negative feelings, but nothing was putting her at ease. Without any other options she calls her father. The phone rings a couple of times before being picked up.
“Hello, my little storm cloud.”
Her father’s voice eases her tumultuous emotions just slightly. She leans back into her desk chair letting out a sigh.
“What troubles you?”
“I need to tell you something and you have to swear on mother’s life that you will not utter a word of it to anyone else.”
“I swear.”
She hears the serious tone of his voice as if he’s in the room with her.
“Enid is pregnant, and I am concerned for her.”
She hears her father jump from where he must have been seated behind his own desk, because she also hears his knees hit the solid wooden furniture.
“Congratulations this is splendid news. When should we expect our new grandchild?”
“Early July but that is not why I called.”
They go over Wednesday’s concerns until most of her anxiety has been sated. Gomez tells her everything he remembers about her mother’s pregnancy with her, and he gives her the contact information of her cousin Jack who has had two children with a werewolf.
Just as she’s hanging up Enid knocks twice on her office door. Wednesday lets her know it’s open and the other girl walks in with a huge smile and a gift bag. She sits down gently on Wednesday’s lap locking their eyes.
“What is this?”
“A gift.”
“It’s not my birthday.”
“I know that, just open it.”
Wednesday takes the paper out of the bag dropping it to the floor before reaching in again and pulling out a black baseball cap that has the word Mama in white thread stitched into the front.
“Get it because you’re going to be mama and I’ll be mommy.”
“Yes, I get it. Thank you, I love it. I love you.”
Wednesday kisses her softly enjoying this simple intimacy with her wife. When they finish trading gentle, chaste kisses Enid pulls back to look into her eyes.
“I can’t wait to be a mom with you.”
Her blue eyes are sparkling with sincerity and happiness. Wednesday in this moment decides that regardless of her fears she is going to be strong for this woman. She is going to be strong for their little one and everything is going to be okay.

“Wednesday Friday Addams, we agreed to tell your parents together.”
It had only taken a week for Gomez to open his big mouth and share the news with his wife who then called Wednesday’s wife to congratulate them. Enid had come stomping down the stairs and into the kitchen where Wednesday was dicing some vegetables.
“To be fair I only told my father, and it was in a moment of weakness. I swore him to secrecy, but I should have known better. He can’t keep anything from my mother.”
Enid still looks angry, but she steals a couple of pieces of cucumber from the cutting board and Wednesday knows that she will be quickly forgiven.
“I wonder if I’ll have morning sickness. My mother complained all through my teen years that she was always sick when she was pregnant with me. I think half of those complaints were just to take a jab at me but still.”
Wednesday continues slicing before wiping her hands on her apron and facing her wife.
“Even if you do have some ailments Grandmama left all of her natural remedies to me when she passed.”
She had already stocked their medicine cabinet with anything they would need throughout this pregnancy. Some of the ingredients were a little harder to find than others but it would all be worth it to ease her love’s possible pain.
“My mother used several of Grandmama’s special recipes she never had more than one bout of morning sickness. She didn’t even need an epidural for any of our births.”
“I trust you.”
She picks up a few cucumber slices feeding them to her hungry wife, placing her thumb over the other woman’s lip when she’s done eating. They share a sweet kiss just wanting to be closer to one another.
W&E
Seven weeks in and Enid has her first round of morning sickness. She wakes up sweating and runs to the bathroom barely making it in time. Her eyes sting with tears as she heaves into the toilet. She stays with her knees on the floor and her head in the toilet for several minutes before she feels a presence behind her.
Wednesday is rubbing soothing circles on her shirt and for a moment Enid wants to tell her to leave because she feels disgusting. Her clothes are damp from sweat and she knows her hair must look horrible. Not to mention her stinky morning breath paired with bile.
Enid opens her mouth to tell Wednesday to go back to bed but the shorter woman glares at her as if knowing what she was about to say. When she’s strong enough to stand Wednesday helps her up and they walk to the sink so Enid can brush her teeth.
Wednesday watches her until she’s sure she won’t faint or anything before going downstairs to find her wife something to eat that won’t make her nauseous.
Enid hops in the shower next taking her time under the warm spray, emerging into their bedroom wrapped in a towel. Wednesday comes in shortly after with an apple and a bowl of plain oatmeal.
Enid takes pride in the fact that her wife stumbles a bit when she gets a good look at her bare legs. They’ve been together for a long time but Wednesday always seems to look at her the same way she did when they were teenagers.
“It’s the best I could do for now. I might go grocery shopping this afternoon if you want to make me a list.”
Wednesday sets the food on her bedside table coming closer to untangle her hair with her fingers. Enid closes her eyes and lets the other woman take care of her for a moment.
“You should get dressed; I’ll drive you to work today.”
“I’m not bed ridden Wednesday. I can still drive.”
“I know that, but it would please me very much to not only drive you to work but to also pick you up.”
“Fine but only because I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Wednesday leaves the room after glancing at her one more time letting her gaze linger. Enid blushes from the attention and quickly finishes getting ready. She reads her emails while she eats the breakfast Wednesday had prepared, it’s bland but at least she can keep it down.
Her wife is in her office with the door open when she gets downstairs, the girl is furiously typing away at her laptop. She still mostly wrote on the typewriter, but the laptop made for easier edits and a faster way of sending drafts to her publisher.
She had been published three times since they graduated, two of which ended up being bestsellers. Her forth book is predicted to make that list as well and it’s what she’s been working so hard on lately.
“Wends are you ready to go?”
“Yes, just one moment dear.”
She types a couple more sentences before closing the laptop and standing to follow Enid out of the office and towards the front door.
“Do you have everything you need?”
“Everything except the list. I’ll just write it in the car.”
Wednesday rolls her eyes with affection and guides the blond to her car, opening the passenger side door.
Enid, true to her word, spent the whole drive writing down foods that she thinks she’ll be able to stomach. Wednesday drives more slowly than usual to avoid making the blond’s task harder. By the time they get to the school Enid has a page filled and she hands it off with a smile.
“I’ll see you this afternoon. Call me if you need me.”
“I’ll be fine Wend’s a little morning sickness never killed anybody. At least I don’t think so.”
Enid makes her way to the side entrance of the school looking back once to wave at Wednesday who is still sitting there, waiting to make sure she gets inside.
Enid walks to her office with a smile on her face. Although morning sickness had been gross it was proof that she was doing something that she had always dreamed of. When she sits at her desk, she places a hand over her stomach rubbing gently.
She looks up when she hears a few short knocks on her door. Autumn is standing there waiting for permission to come in.
“I need to talk to you.”

“Wednesday! Don’t call them that.”
“Why not? It’s intended as a compliment.”

Chapter Text
Enid went from happy to worried in the span of seconds. She stands and gestures for Autumn to come in and sit down on her couch. She walks over and shuts the door to give them a little more privacy.
“What do you need to talk about Autumn?”
“It’s my parents.”
Autumn puts her binder and books on the coffee table in front of her, replacing them with a throw pillow in her arms. She sinks back into the couch, cradling the pillow to her chest. Enid takes her place in the armchair across from her, waiting for the young girl to speak.
“It’s like they’re never home anymore. They know I can take care of myself, so they just leave for days at a time without even telling me sometimes. With my older sister moved out and my parents in an early retirement it’s like they forgot I exist.”
Enid listens carefully, making sure to keep her expression neutral, something she learned from Wednesday.
“That sounds lonely, do you have any other family members you could stay with when your parents are traveling?”
“No, half of my grandparents died before I was born, and the other half died a couple of years ago. Both of my parents were only children, so I don’t have any aunts or uncles.”
Enid contemplates for a minute what exactly the best course of action would be. She settles on giving the girl some advice on how to start a conversation with her parents and sister about how she’s feeling. Although her older sister isn’t living with them, she may be able to offer some comfort to her sister if they have an honest talk about what’s going on.
By the time Autumn is leaving her office, the first bell is ringing, letting students know it’s time to head to homeroom.
The day goes by quickly. She answers emails, helps a few students with their college applications and hands out a total of five bags of chips and three caramel candies. Wednesday texts her when she’s in the parking lot but when Enid is locking her door, she feels a presence behind her.
“I know it’s you.”
Wednesday lets out a chuckle.
“Of course, you do. Your sense of smell is one of the most attractive things about you.”
“And here I thought you married me for my arms.”
Enid turns to face her wife fully taking in her casual attire.
“I married you for your ass and nothing else.”
Wednesday lets a smirk raise the corners of her mouth before starting the walk back towards the parking lot.
“Wednesday Friday Addams, you did not just say that.”
Wednesday keeps walking ahead of her not slowing down for a moment. When Enid catches up, she slaps her on the shoulder playfully. She knows her wife is just teasing her, but she definitely wasn’t expecting such a comment.
When Wednesday opens her door she leans into the car, making them eye level to one another.
“I married you because no one else on this planet could make me feel the way you do.”
Their drive home is filled with pop music and questions about each other’s days. It passes by quickly and before she knows it Wednesday is on her side of the car opening her door for her as always.
Wednesday cooks them a nice dinner, consisting of steak and vegetables, something the blond has always enjoyed. She only gets to eat three bites before running off to one of their downstairs bathrooms and emptying her stomach.
Wednesday is hot on her tail (metaphorically) and is holding her hair back within seconds. They stay there for a few long minutes, until Enid is sure she can stand again. There are tears stinging her eyes by the time she makes it to the sink; she keeps her head low refusing to look at her wife.
Wednesday hovers nearby, no longer touching her but still in the same room. She finishes washing her hands and brushing her teeth. She wipes her eyes before walking towards Wednesday.
When she bypasses the kitchen in favor of going to their bedroom Wednesday follows her. Enid ungracefully falls onto their bed, annoyed at herself and frustrated with her body. She lets out a heavy sigh.
Wednesday sits softly next to her grasping one of Enid’s hands in one of her own.
“Is there some food you know won’t make you nauseous? You need to eat my beloved.”
“I’m not sure. The oatmeal you made me this morning was fine and the wrap I had for lunch stayed down no problem. I’m sorry Wednesday.”
Wednesday’s face switches from concern to confusion in the span of seconds.
“Why are you apologizing?”
The floodgates open at the question as if they were waiting for it. She lets Wednesday’s hand go in favor of using both of her own to catch her tears. Her sobs wrack her body and Wednesday, much like that morning, resorts to rubbing circles into her back.
“Falling ill is not your fault Enid. We decided to start a family and I am just as much on this journey as you are. If that means trying one hundred different recipes until I find something that you can eat I will.”
Her cries slow down and she slowly looks up to meet Wednesday’s eyes.
“I didn’t get to eat the dinner you made us.”
Wednesday chuckles a little, a smile threatening to curve her lips.
“After this baby is born, I’ll make you steak every day.”
“You mean that?”
“Well maybe not every day.”
Once she has calmed down and her tears have fully stopped Wednesday goes back downstairs to save the food they had been eating. Enid grabs her laptop off of their ottoman and begins researching the best things to eat while pregnant and battling morning sickness.
Wednesday returns with a banana and upon seeing what Enid was up to she grabbed a pencil and a notebook. Enid points out the things that she would be interested in trying while Wednesday writes them down. They work in tandem and when Enid finishes her banana her wife goes back to kitchen to try one of the new “safe” food options.
W&E
Instead of making Enid come down to the kitchen where she knows some of the smell of the previous food may trigger her nausea again, she brings the food to her. She plates it all on a tray that she usually reserves for breakfast in bed, but this was a special circumstance.
Enid sets aside the tv remote when Wednesday enters a smile stretching across her face.
“Thank you Wends.”
“You’re very welcome.”
After making sure her wife was perfectly situated to comfortably eat, she picks up the remote. She finds a documentary on the life of Frida Kahlo that they had not finished, and presses play.
Wednesday settles in next to the blond ready to jump out of bed at any minute. She has been anxious since this morning, not liking the way she feels so out of control when her wife is sick.
Enid had only been sick a handful of times in all the years that they had been together. Her werewolf immune system was nothing to joke about. The worst had been a cold that she just couldn’t seem to shake their freshman year of college.
It had lasted for nearly two weeks, leaving her eight pounds lighter and so weak she could barely stand on her own. Wednesday hadn’t cried in front of the girl but in the privacy of their bathroom, while Enid was asleep, she called her mother and she wept.
Her parents had offered to fly out and to help them but Wednesday had refused, instead asking for some natural remedies locked away in the Addams’ Family Library. With everything written down she started giving Enid anything that she thought would help. It took five recipes and a lot of patience but soon she was on the mend.
She’s just as scared now as she was then.
Enid finishes everything on her plate and she sets it aside in favor of scooting closer to Wednesday. After thirty minutes had passed, she figured the nausea wouldn’t be a problem this time.
They get ready for bed in sync and Enid has no trouble falling asleep. Wednesday stays up for another hour or so, watching the blond’s chest rise and fall. At some point she must fall asleep though because she is awoken by retching noises coming from their ensuite.
A look to her side tells her that Enid is out of bed and that it’s just past two in the morning. She gets up quickly and squints against the bright light, settling on her knees beside her wife. She begins the familiar motion of rubbing circles and patterns into her back, her fingers gliding around her spine.
When Enid rests her head against the toilet bowl Wednesday knows that she is too tired to get up herself. Wednesday lifts her wife from under her arms and once standing she gently urges the blond to relax so that she can carry her to bed.
Once Enid is on her side of the bed with the blankets drawn up Wednesday returns to the bathroom to wet a rag. She cleans her wife’s face as well as she can before going back to grab her toothbrush, a bowl of water, a cup and some toothpaste.
The idea of anyone brushing their teeth in bed disgusts her but Enid isn’t anybody. Enid is her partner, her wife, the most important person in her life. Wednesday would kill for her, and more significantly Wednesday would die for her.
So, with the homemade set up she gets the deed done knowing the blond would hate herself if she went back to sleep with her mouth all gross. Enid mumbles an “I love you” when Wednesday had slid back into bed after carrying all the stuff back to bathroom.
“I love you too.” Wednesday whispers into the dark room, not even sure if the other girl had heard her.
W&E
The next few weeks consist of much the same. Enid is disappointed but not surprised. She reminds herself multiple times a day that the reason for all of her physical suffering is more important than the temporary struggles.
She’s taken to talking to her bump every once in a while, whispering to the little one. She doesn't say anything super important, mostly just comments about her day and facts about their other mom. Wednesday had looked at her so softly the first time she noticed what Enid was doing, it was a look that filled her with warmth.
At the tail end of the first trimester Enid and Wednesday find themselves back at the doctor for another checkup. They sign in and sit down right next to an artificial plant that is much too big for the space.
They talk quietly while they wait, they go over the plans for a baby shower. Wednesday has a few hard opinions on who should and shouldn’t be invited, Enid agrees entirely. Enid opens her notes app and they make a tentative list of who could attend. By the time they’ve added about twenty names, Enid is called through to the exam room.
Their doctor greets them enthusiastically and they go through all of the usual motions with everything looking perfectly normal. It eases Enid’s anxiety, and she knows Wednesday shares her feelings when the girl beside her lets out a big sigh after the doctor had exited.
The baby was growing normally, nothing to worry about. On their next appointment they would maybe even get to learn the gender of the little one. Not that it mattered they would love the kid to pieces regardless.
They stop at a local diner on their way home, Enid now confident enough to try some foods that had previously been making her sick.
There aren’t many people when they walk in, so they have their choice of seating. Wednesday guides her with a hand to the small of her back to a corner booth.
“The cheeseburger looks so good, but I don’t know if little one will agree with me.”
Wednesday looks over her menu pensively before replying in a serious tone.
“You need to let your mother enjoy her greasy abominations disguised as food. Do you hear me little menace?”
“Wednesday! Don’t call them that.”
“Why not? It’s intended as a compliment.”
Enid shakes her head and rolls her eyes with affection.
She orders the burger but Wednesday gets a fruit salad with her meal just in case. Enid is grateful when not even two bites in she feels the now familiar waves in her gut. The fruit salad is good though.
When they got home Wednesday ran her a bath and sat with her back to the wall and a book in hand while Enid soaked her sore muscles. Enid enjoyed this part of their relationship the most, the quiet intimacy of just existing in the same space.
W&E
Her bump begins to make a more noticeable appearance in the following weeks. So much so that her students have begun to make comments about it, congratulating her and asking her what she thinks she’ll have.
She takes it all in stride and proudly beams down at her stomach anytime someone mentions it. Some of the teachers who have kids have already started to give her unsolicited advice on what to do in any given situation. It annoys her to no end, but she refuses to tell Wednesday lest the woman threaten to hurt her coworkers physically or psychologically.
They have planned this following weekend to start decorating the nursery and the thought of that outweighs any negative feelings brought on by the miserable people she works with. Wednesday had of course wanted to paint the walls black or at least a dark grey. Enid had vetoed both choices and had suggested a dark green would be a suitable compromise. Wednesday readily agreed, wanting to avoid the bright yellow or blue that Enid had originally wanted.
Her wife was picking up the paint this afternoon and they were set to start looking at furniture on Saturday. Much to Wednesday’s dismay her parents are coming in to help them look and to talk more about the baby shower. Morticia had all but taken over the planning, wanting Enid to stress as little as possible.
Wednesday had easily given in to letting her mother plan everything, but she drew the line at having her parents stay with them. It took a solid hour of good points and puppy eyes for Wednesday to reconsider. Although it would only be for a couple of days her wife was worried about her parents being in their space when they had spent so much of their time lately sans clothing.
Enid’s hormones were at an all-time high and Wednesday had been a dutiful wife seeing to her every need. Enid spent so much of her time turned on now that she barely had time to even think about how sick she was before. Which in her mind was a win win.
Wednesday had taken care of her on the kitchen table this morning, working her until she was breathing like she had just run a marathon. She had almost been late to work but it was so worth it.
The memory sends a blush to her face and she’s thankful to be alone in her office for the time being. Her phone’s loud ringing grabs her attention and when she sees her brother-in-law’s ID, she picks it up right away.
“Hey Pugs. How’re you?”
“Couldn’t be better, I was actually calling to ask you the same thing.”
“I think I’m finally over my morning sickness, so that’s been nice.”
She hears the young man hum over the line in acknowledgement.
“That’s good. Wednesday was really worried about you. She kept calling our parents to see if there was anything else she could do to help you.”
They catch up over the next few minutes. Enid enjoys every second of hearing about how her niece is growing and she catches herself absentmindedly rubbing her own bump. She imagines that this will be the way she also gushes about her and Wednesday’s child. That she’ll want to tell all of their friends about every smile and how they almost held their head up on their own.
When Pugsley hangs up, she refocuses on her job, ready to tackle any of her student’s problems. The day passes quickly with only a few small hiccups in the grand scheme of things. When Wednesday picks her up she’s still in high spirits and she knows that it shows.
“You are glowing today Enid.” Wednesday takes one of her hands in her own and places a soft kiss to her knuckles. Enid giggles in response, taking her rightful spot as the passenger princess.
They head straight from the school to the airport to pick up Wednesday’s parents. Enid sings along to the radio for almost the entire drive. She only stops singing to tell Wednesday stories about her day or to ask her how her day was.
The writer had apparently been very unproductive. She had only managed to write a couple of pages before succumbing to writer's block. Wednesday had instead cleaned the whole house for most of the day in preparation for her parents’ arrival.
She had put together the guest bedroom furthest from theirs just in case. They would only be here for a few days, but Enid doesn't think that her hormones would slow down for anyone or anything, even a visit from her in-laws.
They spot the eldest Addams as soon as they get to the correct gate. Gomez is proudly carrying both of their bags and hobbling over to them with all of the extra weight slowing him down.
Morticia looks as elegant as ever with her floor length dress hugging her snugly. It’s really unfair how good she looks having just been on a plane for a few hours. Morticia hugs her first before giving her daughter air kisses. Gomez drops the luggage as soon as he is close enough to embrace both of them.
Wednesday helps her father bring their bags to the car and Enid spends the walk filling Morticia in on every little detail of her pregnancy. Morticia waits until they get to the car to tentatively ask if she could touch the baby bump. Enid enthusiastically shakes her head.
Morticia gently lays her hands right over where the baby should be, splaying her fingers to cover more space. She smiles gently at the sight of the woman who looks so much like Wednesday cooing over her future grandchild. Gomez joins her and before long Wednesday is grumbling about them needing to get back onto the road to avoid rush hour traffic.
When they get home Wednesday cooks them a quick dinner to be consumed at the dining table that she and her wife rarely used. They talk more until Enid is yawning every other sentence.
“We will have more time to converse while shopping tomorrow.” Her father-in-law says.
Gomez is the one to stand up first, followed shortly by his wife.
“Goodnight father, mother. I hope you have nightmares.”
“Sweet dreams Enid. I wish nothing but restless slumber for you my dearest daughter.” Morticia replies with a yawn of her own.
When they get to bed Enid is too tired to even entertain the idea of any kind of pleasure. Wednesday seems to be on the same page as she face plants into her pillow with a grunt.
“It’s only for a couple of days baby. Don’t be dramatic, that’s my thing.”
Wednesday only looks up from her spot to send her a glare that they both know hasn’t worked on her since high school.
Notes:
I have a better idea of where I want to take this story now. Chapter three is mostly written and should be up by next week. I may change the rating to mature as there will be a little bit of smut next chapter, nothing super graphic. As always thank you for reading.
Chapter 3: Grief and Hope
Summary:
Enid and Wednesday go on a shopping trip with Gomez and Morticia but not before enjoying each other's company in the most intimate way and more.
Or
“My terror of a wife was scared of a bubble bath that’s unbelievable.”
Wednesday is sulking next to her, eyes unmoving on the table in front of them. She lifts a hand to rub her other half’s back lightly. She drops a kiss to her cheek and her in laws change the subject to possible themes for the baby shower.

I am updating the tags as I go but just in case you didn't check there will be both smut and angst in this chapter.

Chapter Text
The next morning Wednesday wakes up to her wife restlessly moving around in her sleep. Her skin is covered in a soft gleam of sweat and she’s moaning lowly. It only takes her a few moments to figure out that her wife must be having a wet dream and a pretty good one if the outwardly symptoms are any indication.
She shakes Enid’s shoulder lightly and whispers in her ear.
“Enid, love, you need to wake up.”
Enid opens her eyes and blinks blearily at her. Her face goes red the moment she realizes what has just happened.
She tries to scoot away but Wednesday holds her in place with one hand on her wrist and another grabbing her waist.
“What were you dreaming about?”
Enid doesn't want to meet her eyes but after a few seconds she looks up and her pupils are dilated.
“You. We were back at that hotel we stayed at for our one-year wedding anniversary. You bent me over the railing of the balcony where anyone could have seen us.”
Her wife has lost a little bit of her embarrassment in the story telling and her words are driving Wednesday mad.
“Is that something you fantasize about? Being seen.”
Enid shrugs her shoulders lightly.
“Sometimes.”
She then turns the tables by climbing into Wednesday’s lap and holding the other girl’s face in both of her hands. Forcing her wife to look up at her with the hold she has on her jaw.
“I think what turned me on more than anything was the way you were taking me so hard with no mercy. Your more assertive side does something to me.”
Enid’s dirty talk is making her dizzy, but she wants to focus on her wife’s pleasure first. She brings one of her hands to crawl over Enid’s ribs down to her stomach and then below the waistband of her shorts.
When her fingers meet wet heat, she groans in satisfaction.
“Is this all for me?”
“Only you.”
Wednesday wastes no time inserting two of her fingers and beginning a punishing pace. Enid pants above her barely able to form words much less sentences. She's able to string together a few comments and phrases like;
“Yes!”
“Harder!”
“So good baby, right there!”
After several minutes of thrusting and a little bit of clit stimulation Enid is cumming all over her fingers. Wednesday brings their foreheads together and as she draws her fingers out, she swallows Enid’s whine with her lips.
They stay in bed for a little while longer enjoying the stillness. When Wednesday makes a move to get up Enid stops her with a pout.
“I didn’t get to return the favor.”
“You can do so in the shower.”
She doesn't think she’s seen her wife move so fast in weeks. The blond woman beats her to the bathroom and all Wednesday can do is laugh at her antics.
W&E
Her parents have already made breakfast when they get downstairs. Morticia has cut some of the flowers from the garden outback and placed them in a vase on the dining table. It’s a beautiful arrangement but Wednesday is a little annoyed at the fact that she didn’t ask first. Enid has no such qualms.
“This is beautiful Morticia, you haven’t lost your touch.”
“Thank you dear.”
They talk game plan over the early morning meal deciding that a crib should be their number one priority along with a changing table. If they could find other things that they both needed and liked, they could pick it up, but they all knew what the main things were.
The first furniture store they stopped at had at least a hundred different styles of cribs and Wednesday underestimated just how much time this would take. Gomez and Enid are practically running around the store cooing at all the cute designs.
It takes them half an hour just to step six feet into the establishment.
There’s one in particular that stops Gomez in his tracks.
It’s a medium wood grain crib with a family of bears carved into the side of it. He points it out to his daughter in law and Enid, honest to God, starts tearing up.
“Wends it’s a little family of bears. They’re so cute but also dangerous, don’t you love it?”
“I love you.”
“I know you do; I love you too. But what do you think of the crib?”
Wednesday gets a better look at it, inspecting the craftsmanship. It’s good quality and she has to admit that the furry animals carved into the wood do add a bit of character to the piece.
“It is adequate.”
Enid squeals and throws her arms around her. She even jumps up and down a little before flagging down a salesperson.
“We’ll take this one.”
W&E
Enid has always liked Wednesday’s parents. It was easy considering Gomez and Morticia have always liked her. When she had first been introduced as Wednesday’s roommate, she was so nervous that the couple would find her annoying. To her surprise they took to her immediately, Gomez fascinated with her werewolf abilities and Morticia showing her everything she knows of greenery.
She had fit in like a puzzle piece falling into place.
When Wednesday had asked her to be her girlfriend nearly a year later no one in her family was surprised. Enid had expected shocked faces to accompany the announcement, but everyone just cheered for a moment and then continued eating dinner.
That feeling of belonging is now a familiar one resting just below her ribs. She enjoys shopping with Gomez and chatting with Morticia. She hasn’t seen the pair in a few months, and she’s missed them dearly. Of course, they can facetime, text, or call but it really isn’t the same.
Gomez buys them all lunch at a local Italian place near the next furniture store they are planning on stopping at. The crib was all set to be delivered to their home during the next week, but they still needed to look for a changing table.
Gomez and Morticia had barely touched their food in favor of regaling Enid with stories of Wednesday and Pugsley as babies. Wednesday had apparently been terrified of the bathtub, only allowing her parents to bathe her in the sink until she was almost three years old.
Morticia wants to do something on the more Victorian Gothic spectrum whereas Enid wants light pastels and cute animals. They find a compromise before dessert is brought to the table. The decorations would consist of darker colors but with baby animals spread throughout like panther cubs, bats and Enid’s personal favorite ravens. This kid was going to have a nice collection of stuffed animals before they were even born, and Enid was more than okay with that.
The conversation ends up bringing about a new nickname for the baby, Gomez affectionately referring to them as little bat. A term of endearment that Enid hopes sticks around.
The next store doesn’t have anything that stands out to them, so they try a couple more places before calling it a day. They still have plenty of time so it’s not like they needed to rush to find something today anyways.
The next day they spend at home just catching up and hanging around the house. Enid officially shows Morticia their garden and she ohs and awes at all the right moments, even though the woman had found it herself yesterday morning. Enid catches Wednesday talking to her dad about baby proofing their house soon and it makes her swoon knowing the danger loving woman was willing to do anything to protect their unborn baby.
Wednesday talks a big game about dangerous situations building character and other things along those lines but the truth is that she’s just as scared as Enid is. Deep down there isn’t a single thing she wouldn’t do to shelter this child from harm. It has never felt better being on the same page as it does now.
They drop Gomez and Morticia off at the airport that night. There are plenty of hugs and tears from the mother to be. They leave with a promise to be back in a few months for the baby shower with Pugsley and his family in tow.
W&E
Wednesday spends the next few weeks working on nothing but the nursery when Enid is away. With the lack of adequate furniture save for the crib they found she decided the next best thing would be to build some furniture herself.
She starts with the changing table, making a trip to the hardware store after dropping Enid off at work to purchase everything she needs. It took her a full week to finish it. She would have had it done faster if not for the project being kept a secret.
It’s hard to keep Enid out of the nursery but with a couple of wandering hands and a few well-placed kisses the woman is all too happy to run to their room and forget about everything else. Pregnancy hormones had to be good for something.
She starts on a rocking chair next; she plans to carve little bear cubs into it to match the crib Enid is so enamored with. She’s in the middle of making the first cub’s head when her phone starts ringing loudly. It’s the tone she specifically set for Enid, so she stands to answer it immediately.
“Hello.”
“Wednesday!”
Her wife sounds panicked, and the sound sends fear down her spine.
“What's wrong?”
Before she can even finish her question, she rushes downstairs and grabs her keys, making it to her car in record time.
“I don’t know. I’m bleeding. Lyla is bringing me to the hospital.”
“Which one? I’ll meet you there.”
Enid shakily gives her the information through what sounds like tears and Wednesday breaks several traffic laws to get to her wife.
W&E
It’s not uncommon. The phrase rings through her ears even hours after the doctor had first said it.
It’s not uncommon.
Enid had cried so much that they had to sedate her.
It’s not uncommon.
Wednesday went numb the moment she realized what was happening.
It’s not uncommon.
She waited until Enid was asleep to call her parents. She cried into the phone as she explained the situation. She cried as she repeated what the doctor had said.
It’s not uncommon.
Wednesday tried her best to be strong for wife but she was equally as devastated. When they were discharged the following day Enid wanted to sleep in the first-floor guest bedroom to avoid walking past the nursery. Wednesday quickly agreed and they settled into the unfamiliar space.
On the third night after they had come back from the hospital Enid seemed to finally want to talk about it.
“I don’t know why I thought that this could actually work.”
Wednesday is startled out of her own thoughts at the sound of her wife’s voice. They hadn’t spoken much in the last few days and the blond’s tone has a deep rasp from unuse.
“What do you mean?”
“My body has always fought against me I should have known that getting pregnant and staying pregnant would be a struggle.”
Wednesday moves from her spot at the dresser to sit next to her wife on the bed, taking her face into her hands.
“My love your doctor told you that you were in good health none of us could have known that this would happen. I sincerely hope that you are not blaming yourself.”
Enid lets a few silent tears race down her face and Wednesday catches every one of them with her thumbs.
“I couldn’t do it Wednesday. I tried so hard, and I still couldn’t do it. I’m so sorry Wednesday.”
“Don't you dare apologize Enid. You are a perfect wife and one day you will be a perfect mother. Is what happened unfortunate, yes but it doesn't make me love you any less.”
Enid looks into her eyes, her face full of anguish, but Wednesday can see a glimmer of hope there. It’s sitting right below the surface waiting for permission to come out.
“I know it is probably too soon to be thinking about this but if it would be agreeable with you, I would be willing to try to carry our child.”
Enid’s bright blue eyes widen in shock, and she grabs at Wednesday’s forearms.
“Are you serious?”
“When am I not?”
W&E
Enid doesn't go back to work for a week. She spends her time off recovering both physically and emotionally. Wednesday cooks for her every day just to ensure that she eats even a little bit.
They avoid talking about children after the emotionally charged conversation where Wednesday offered her body as a willing vessel should they try again. Enid needs time to process and if there’s one thing her wife is good at it’s being patient.
So, on the following Monday she goes back to work, and she uses it as a productive distraction from her internal turmoil. She goes through the motions of helping her students through their everyday struggles and she holds her own pain in until lunch.
She closes her office door during her half-hour break and turns off her light so that she can sit in the darkness of the room and cry to herself. She knows that if she called Wednesday, she would be here in a heartbeat but there’s a part of her that wants to suffer in silence.
The part of her that only wanted to make her parents proud, the part of her that was unable to wolf out for so long, the part of her that holds onto every one of her insecurities and keeps them locked in a box for safe keeping in one of the farthest corners of her mind.
As many times as the people in her life tell her that none of this was her fault and that she did everything right there would always be that small percentage of her that doesn't believe them. Wednesday would never blame her of course but Enid can’t help but think that this has changed their relationship in a negative way.
Enid had never before had a problem with doing things for Wednesday. She had proposed first of course back when they had been in college. When she had told the elder Addams of her intentions, they had informed her of their family traditions and Enid had jumped through every hoop imaginable to earn Wednesday’s hand.
She had spent countless nights reading and editing Wednesday’s drafts for her books. She had done most of the research for their home, finding one that was the perfect blend of modern and industrial. Enid had encouraged and loved her wife every day since the day they had met.
Enid couldn’t do this for Wednesday.
Enid’s stupid body couldn’t do the one thing she so desperately wanted it to. She lets out more tears in frustration. It seems so silly now that she was upset about morning sickness just weeks ago. She would take a hundred days full of morning sickness if it meant that she and Wednesday could be mothers.
She’s yanked abruptly from her thoughts when a knock rings through the room. She wipes her tears quickly and flips the light switch making her way to the door. She takes a few more seconds to compose herself before opening the door.
Autumn is standing on the other side, muffin in hand.
“Afternoon Mrs. Addams, I brought you this.”
The young girl reaches her hand with the pastry out towards Enid.
“Thank you, Autumn, that it very kind of you.”
She takes hold of the muffin and upon closer inspection she notices that it’s blueberry, her favorite.
Autumns steps a little closer and lowers her voice.
“I’m sorry about what happened to you Mrs. Addams, you would have made a good mom.”
She’s slightly taken aback by the statement, but she schools her features and gives the young girl a small smile. Before she can reply the bell signaling the end of lunch rings through the hall and Autumn walks off with a little wave of her hand.
She picks at the muffin for the rest of the day, taking little bites out of it, in between answering her emails and solving daily teen crises.
When she gets home that afternoon Wednesday is at her desk staring at her typewriter as if willing it to write the words for her. She walks past her without saying anything, making her way to the room she hasn’t been able to step into since the day they got the news.
When she opens the door a feeling of melancholy rushes over her for the small person she would never get to meet. For the first time in what feels like an eternity, she gives herself permission to grieve the baby that was supposed to be hers.
She cries openly as she passes her fingers over the crib, she had been so excited to purchase. Next to it is a changing table she doesn’t recognize but she quickly realizes that this is her wife’s doing. The other woman had always been so talented and of course building furniture would be no different.
She spots the rocker next. It’s sitting across from the changing table with a partial carving on the side of it. Enid cries harder when she sees the little bear cub head carefully engraved into the wood.
She suddenly feels two strong hands wrapped around her. Enid smells the familiar scent of ink and sandalwood enveloping her. She lets herself be held as her tears fall slowly down her face and neck.
She feels a few tears hit the top of her head and in all the years that she had known Wednesday she had only seen her cry twice. Once when her Grandmama had passed on and the other time was when she had seen Enid in her wedding dress for the first time.
She grips onto the arms holding her and she tries to convey as much strength as she can. They sit in the nursery and cry until they can’t anymore. Eventually Wednesday had moved to sit with her back to the wall and had pulled Enid into her lap.
They hadn’t spoken a single word in what must have been an hour since Enid had first walked in.
“The changing table looks great.”
Wednesday turns to meet her eyes with an expression that reads as incredulous.
“I was going to surprise you once I had finished the rocker.”
It’s such a thoughtful gesture that it fills her chest with warmth and love.
“I love it.”
They sit there quietly for a few more moments before Wednesday clears her throat.
“I would still like to start a family with you.”
“I know.” Enid lets out a big sigh.
“It obviously doesn't have to happen anytime soon, but I need you to know that I meant what I said earlier. I am willing to carry our future child.”
She looks into her wife's eyes and sees nothing but honesty.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Okay.”
Notes:
There is chapter three done and I have a good idea of how the next few chapters will go. Feedback and kudos are always appreciated. Thank you for reading.
P.S. I feel like Wednesday would like bears regardless of their cubs being so cute simply because they are so dangerous.

Chapter Text
Wednesday spends months mentally and physically preparing herself for pregnancy. She wasn’t the best at taking care of herself and she was only mildly better at it now that she had Enid to keep her in line.
She starts eating healthier and more regularly while also adding vitamins to her everyday routine. She reads every book, article and essay she can find about pregnancy. She listens to her doctor’s every word even though she believes some of the advice to be utterly useless.
She splits her attention between preparing to carry their child and making sure her wife is truly okay with her carrying their child. Enid had been so fragile mentally in the last few months. Wednesday could understand her pain seeing as she was holding her own, but they felt it in different ways.
Wednesday had thrown herself into research on parenting to keep herself from thinking too deeply about what would have been. Enid had similarly thrown herself into her work, going in earlier and staying later. Attending every sporting event that she was invited to.
Wednesday had taken to dropping her off and picking her up from work for weeks before the miscarriage and even after but now Enid insists on driving herself. The brush off had hurt but she’s trying to give her wife the space she needs to process her emotions.
It startles her when the front door closes rather loudly at just after six in the evening. She had expected Enid to be home hours ago and it isn’t like the wolf to make such an entrance. She stands up from her desk quickly, eager to greet her wife.
Enid is a sight to behold even when she is very clearly pissed about something.
“I have dinner in the oven, it’s the chicken parmesan recipe I know you enjoy.”
Enid meets her eyes and the fury behind them is screaming at her.
“I’m not hungry.”
Wednesday takes a deep breath to keep her own irritation at bay.
“I spent hours making it, the least you could do is take a few bites.”
Enid at least has the decency to look ashamed as she makes her way towards the staircase.
“I’m not in the mood to argue with you.”
“And you think I am.”
Enid stops on the fifth step with her back still to Wednesday and she can see the muscles tense in her shoulders.
“I would like to spend the evening eating dinner with my wife. That is what I’m in the mood for. When you feel the same way, you know where to find me.”
Wednesday knows her words are harsh but she is at her wits end with all of the patience and walking on eggshells. She misses the woman she fell in love with.
That night she slept on the couch in her home office and while lying on her back staring at the ceiling all she could think about was blue eyes and dyed ends.
W&E
Enid was a mess. She was usually a mess, but this was different in every way. When she had finally stopped crying every day after the miscarriage, she had thought that this meant she was over it but boy was she wrong.
Wednesday was being so gentle with her and for some weird reason it was making her angry. So, she has been spending less and less time at home preferring the school's hallways to her own wife’s presence.
Of course, she doesn't know how to explain any of this to anybody, so she has been keeping everything to herself and doing what she does best; helping others.
Autumn must have noticed her more frequent hours because she stops by more and more each day. Most days she just quietly does her homework on Enid’s couch but other days, the days when she has a lot on her mind, she talks to Enid about everything.
It depresses the older woman that such a remarkable young girl could be burdened with a heavy feeling of loneliness this early in her life. Her situation had not improved in the slightest, her parents calling her dramatic and her sister claiming that life was hard for everyone, not just her.
Enid does her best to not only listen but to also comfort. She can’t help but feel that on most days she comes up short.
She schedules an appointment with a therapist a couple of hours after one of these conversations with Autumn. She realized that she can’t constantly preach self-care if her own mental health was being neglected in favor of not burdening her wife.
She considers asking Wednesday if she would be interested in joining her, not for a couple's session but to just be there for moral support. She decides against it.
The stoney silence that she had been subjected to was entirely her fault and the idea that suggesting therapy to her very closed off wife would ever be productive is ignorant at best. Wednesday had not returned to their bedroom in days.
She continued to cook dinner every night leaving it in the oven or on the island. Enid knew it was her way of making sure she was taken care of even if they weren’t speaking. She thought about leaving for a few days. Maybe going to Yoko and Divina’s for a couple of nights but being that far away from her soulmate makes her ribs hurt.
She makes a stop after work to pick up a bouquet of perfectly dark flowers and then she drives a little out of her way to make a stop at the only bakery Wednesday likes. The one with dark chocolate ganache.
When she gets home the front door is unlocked and the house is silent. She puts her things down before carrying the peace offering gifts to Wednesday’s office. She knocks on the door that is usually open before shifting everything she’s holding into one arm to turn the knob with her other hand.
The office is void of any living being. The typewriter is in its usual spot front and center on her desk but her laptop is gone and so is the writer herself. There is a stack of folded blankets and pillows at one end of the couch and when Enid goes to the kitchen there isn’t a single dish in the sink.
There’s food in containers in the fridge, neatly labeled. The laundry room is pristine. The living room is spotless. When she opens the door to their bedroom, she finds a note stuck to her bedside table.
Dear Enid,
I am giving you the space that I believe you need right now. I have gone to visit my parents and brother for a few days. I will be back no later than noon on Sunday. I have brought my phone with me so if you need me before then do not hesitate to call.
All my love,
Wednesday Addams
Enid places the gifts meant for her wife on the table and she cries so hard the words smug on the paper.
Her wife had left her.
She knew in some small part of her brain that she was being dramatic. Wednesday wasn’t asking for a divorce she was just honoring what she thought Enid wanted. But what Enid wanted more than anything was to be able to apologize to her wife in person for being so foolish and shutting her out.
They were both going through this, and it was unfair of Enid to avoid communication because she was hurt. Wednesday was obviously hurting too, and her wife had been so understanding though all of this. Wednesday had been doing her research and putting in the work to have a healthy pregnancy if they were to try again.
As grateful as Enid is about this it also scares her. What if Wednesday has a miscarriage too? What if something goes wrong during delivery and she loses her wife? What if everything turns out fine and Wednesday is able to carry to term?
That last one comes from a place of insecurity, there will always be a part of her, no matter how small, that believes that Wednesday is too good for her. Wednesday, besides her seizures caused by frequent visions, has always been perfectly healthy. She has excelled in every area of her life, so why would motherhood be any different.
The thoughts circling her mind cause her to begin spiraling so she decides that a long drive may do her some good.
There is a small amount of traffic when she leaves her house. She drives a few miles under the speed limit, not in a hurry to get anywhere in particular. Eventually she finds herself at a park she used to frequent when they had first moved here. Enid had been on a health kick, trying to run more often and spend more time outdoors to reconnect with her inner wolf. Wednesday had laughed at her for a moment before realizing she was serious, then the pale girl had grabbed some sunscreen and followed her out of the house.
The memory makes her smile for just a moment until she thinks about the fact that their home is currently empty and will remain so for the next few days.
She walks around the park slowly, kicking at a few stones, looking at the ducks in the pond and then taking a brief turn on one of the swings. Some parents give her weird looks as she uses her momentum to go back and forth but she doesn't care.
She leaves the park only feeling moderately better than she did when she got there. On the drive home she listens to her playlist that she had specifically crafted for a good cry. Although she had been happier these last few years than she had been in her entire life, she still had her tough days.
When she gets home there is an unfamiliar car in her driveway. A sporty little red vehicle with a couple of stickers on the back. As she gets out of her own car, she can see a figure sitting, hunched really, on her front steps.
Whoever it is they’re crying so hard that they don’t even notice Enid’s approaching footsteps. She gets to be about three feet away from them when she realizes that it’s Autumn.
“Autumn? What are you doing here? Are you okay?”
The redhead looks up at her and the tears on her cheeks yank at Enid’s heartstrings.
Enid quickly takes a seat next to her on the steps and offers a few comforting pats on her knee.
“I’m sorry Mrs. Addams I just didn’t know where else to go.”
Autumn throws her arms around Enid’s taller frame and the younger girl lets her tears get absorbed by Enid’s shirt.
“Autumn it’s alright. Let’s go inside and you can explain to me what’s going on.”
Enid helps her get to her feet and she unlocks the door leading the young woman to their kitchen. Once there she put the electric kettle going so that they could both have some tea.
Autumn sniffles a bit more obviously trying to get her emotions under control before attempting to speak again.
“It’s my parents...they’re.... they’re....”
She takes a few deep breaths.
“Dead.”
Out of all the things Enid thought this could have been about that was not something she had considered.
“Oh my God Autumn I’m so sorry.”
The high schooler continues to have a staring contest with the floor.
“They were in a car accident on the way to the airport. There was nothing that anyone could have done.”
This part of her story is dry and could almost come off as cynical, but Enid knows better than that. She has heard her own voice sound this way on more than one occasion. Autumn is detaching herself from the situation and trying to numb all of the consequent emotions.
She wants to offer some words of comfort, but Autumn begins speaking again, this time looking directly into Enid’s eyes.
“I called my sister, and you want to know what she said.” She lets out a dry laugh.
“That she’s too busy to come home right now and deal with this.”
Enid wishes that she could believe that no one would be that cruel but unfortunately, she knows that some people are capable of doing even worse.
Enid wraps the young girl in a hug, and they stand there in the middle of the kitchen until Autumn’s sobs have turned into hiccups. When they separate Enid makes them both a hot cup of tea and she gestures for the younger woman to sit down.
For the next few hours Autumn voices every fear and concern that she has, and one by one Enid helps her sort through them. They call the family attorney together and Enid helps the young women start to plan her parent’s funeral.
Autumn being so emotionally drained from all of the events that day eventually falls asleep on their sectional in the living room. Enid places a blanket on top of her and makes her way upstairs quietly.
Once there she pulls out her phone and hovers her finger over the call button.
Once she hits it she has to fight the urge to throw her phone across the room. It rings for what feels like an eternity.
“Enid, my beloved, is everything alright?”
“No. I need you.”
“I’ll be there.”
Notes:
A bit more angst before I get to the more fluffy parts of this story. There will be more build up in the next few chapters. Bare with me I've been working back to back twelve hour shifts so my updates may be a little more spaced apart. As always thank you for reading and thank you for any feedback.
Chapter 5: Dog Days are Over
Summary:
Enid and Wednesday have a lot to work through.
or
They both laugh at the absurdity of the moment; they laugh until their ribs hurt and Wednesday doesn't believe that she has ever found anything quite as amusing as this.
Midway between laughs they kiss again and again until they are breathless for another reason entirely.
Enid rests her forehead on Wednesday’s, and they lock eyes.
“I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too.”

Chapter Text
Enid spends her night checking her phone for updates from Wednesday and tip toeing to her living room to make sure Autumn was alright. She hadn’t shared any more details of what was going on over the phone with Wednesday the other woman had simply assured her that she would be home soon and hung up.
Enid felt a little bit of guilt rise in her minutes after the call. Wednesday would have benefited from the space and Enid couldn't even last a full day without her. She figures it's too late to be ashamed seeing as her wife is most likely already on a plane back.
She knows that she should at least try to get a couple of hours of sleep, but she’s too wired to even lay down. So, when Wednesday quietly opens their front door around two in the morning Enid is wide eyed and ready to greet her.
She wraps her arms around her wife in a tight embrace, breathing in her familiar scent. Wednesday relaxes just slightly into her hold, dropping her shoulders and returning the hug.
“I’m so sorry Wednesday.”
The tears that she thought had run out earlier are at full strength again and are hitting the top of a dark head of hair.
“As am I. What happened? Are you alright?”
Wednesday pulls them apart a little bit so that she can wipe her wife’s tears away and sooth the wrinkle forming on her brow.
“When I found the note, I know it’s silly, but I thought for minute that you wanted a divorce but that’s not why I called.”
Wednesday cuts her off before she can continue her train of thought.
“What? You thought I would bring something up as serious as divorce in a note left on your bedside table?”
Enid shakes her head back and forth quickly.
“It was just for a delusional minute; I was really emotional okay. Like I was saying, that’s not why I called.”
Before Wednesday can ask for the actual reason for the call Autumn comes stumbling, sleepily to the front door.
Enid looks a little sheepish as her eyes flick between Autumn and Wednesday.
“Wednesday this is Autumn one of the students that I counsel. Autumn this is my wife Wednesday.”
Autumn moves first using the hand that had been previously rubbing her eye to hold out for a handshake.
“It’s very nice to meet you Mrs. Addams.”
Wednesday takes the younger girl’s hand and shakes it firmly.
“Likewise.”
“I’m sorry if we woke you. You can go sleep in one the guest rooms, a bed would be much more comfortable than our couch.” Wednesday surprises all three of them with the offer.
Autumn looks a little confused before she shakes her head.
“I think I need to get home actually. Thank you for the offer though. I appreciate all of your help today or well technically yesterday.”
An unfamiliar look flashes through Wednesday’s eyes as she steps forward.
“It is much too late for you to be on the road. We insist you stay in one of our guest rooms.”
She leaves no room for argument and just like that Enid falls in love all over again.
“Okay.”
Enid leads Autumn to one of their guest rooms and gives her some of her own pajamas to borrow. When she’s sure the girl is comfortable, she makes her way back to her wife who is sitting at the kitchen island with a cup of what she assumes is coffee nestled between her hands.
She sits across from her wife, and they hold eye contact for a minute before Enid tells her everything. Wednesday sits patiently while she listens.
“That is very unfortunate.”
Enid’s mind is racing with all the different things that may transpire now that the young girl truly has no one. An outlandish idea crosses her mind, but she doesn't dare voice it.
Her wife seemingly always on the same page as her says it, so she doesn't have to.
“Would it be crossing some professional line if we acquired guardianship of the girl?”
It should surprise her that Wednesday would come to such a conclusion so quickly, but she also knows that one of the only reasons the thought crossed Wednesday’s mind was that she knows that’s where Enid’s mind is at.
“I would have to look into it, but I don’t think so.”
“Do you think she would be open to the idea?”
“I know she trusts me, but I guess I wouldn’t truly know how she feels about it until I talk to her about it.”
They discuss a few more details before heading to bed. Wednesday makes it two steps into her office before Enid is pulling her by the back of her shirt to follow her up the stairs. They forego their nighttime routines in favor of getting under the covers as quickly as possible.
Enid pulls Wednesday against her, not wanting even an inch between them. Wednesday complies wrapping her arms tightly against her wife’s waist. Enid smiles when she feels her wife nuzzle lightly against her neck, leaving a kiss there.
“Goodnight my love.”
“Goodnight Wends.”
W&E
Wednesday had only been at her parents' home for about eight hours when she had received the phone call from Enid. It was a good thing she hadn’t unpacked anything yet. She had spent the entirety of her short stay speaking to her family. She had a very rare heartfelt conversation with her parents about the loss of their baby. She had spoken to her brother about potentially getting pregnant and her concerns about that.
She had just returned to her room after dinner when her phone had begun ringing. She considered for just a moment not answering but she knew it was her wife and she has never been able to tell her no.
The panic in her wife’s voice is not something that she wants to get used to, but this is the second time in such a short period that she has heard this particular tone. She gets on the next flight home.
She spends the whole flight worried for Enid. She doesn't know what could have possibly spurred her wife to call her so soon. She thought that it was going to be radio silence for the next few days. Enid could be stubborn on her best days, and she thought that this would be no different. She predicted that the way this was going to play out was that Enid would wait at least two days before maybe sending a text message that would serve as an olive branch.
The fact that she had called so quickly had thrown her for a loop, along with her tone of voice.
She barely keeps herself from going into a nervous fit once the wheels of the plane are down. She gives the cab driver his pay and tip upfront to get her home faster. When the trunk is opened, she grabs her things quickly and jogs up her front steps.
She had expected Enid to be awake, but she hadn’t thought she would run up and hug her so tightly upon her arrival. While they talked everything through Wednesday did her best to focus on the matters at hand and not on how much she had missed her wife’s voice.
When they go to bed that night and Enid all but drags her into their bed to spend the night intertwined, she can’t help the content sigh that flows out of her mouth.
The next morning, she has to pull herself physically away from the bed. She quietly makes her way down the stairs to make herself and Enid some breakfast. She’s so lost in her own thoughts she almost misses it when Autumn enters the room.
Autumn doesn’t say anything as she walks around to the other side of the island. Wednesday wordlessly offers her a mug. The young woman takes it with a quiet thank you and fills it herself with some of the tea from the kettle that had been set earlier.
When she finishes making breakfast, she tells Autumn to help herself and brings a tray upstairs to Enid. Her wife is still sound asleep when she opens the door, so she puts the food down on the side table and lightly shakes her shoulder.
It takes a few moments but eventually the blond blinks open her eyes, and they widen immediately.
She blushes furiously before sitting up and looking over at the tray.
“Thank you Wednesday. It looks delicious.”
Wednesday hums in acknowledgement before taking the seat next to her wife, close enough to steal a few pieces of fruit off of her plate.
“Is Autumn awake?”
“Yes, I told her she could have some breakfast. She looked more alert this morning.”
They sit in silence while Enid finishes her breakfast. Wednesday gets up at some point to freshen up and while she’s in the middle of washing her face Enid comes into the bathroom to brush her teeth. It hits her all at once that it’s been much too long since she has kissed her wife and it’s something that she wants to change immediately.
She throws her wash rag into the sink before grabbing Enid by the shoulders to bring them face to face. She gently pulls the toothbrush out of her mouth and as soon as it is placed on the countertop, she connects their lips.
It feels like coming home.
Enid melts under her touch for just a few seconds before she’s pulling away. Wednesday is confused until she sees her wife turn slightly to spit some toothpaste out of her mouth and grab a rag to wipe her mouth.
“Let’s promise to just talk to each other next time, deal?”
“Deal.”
They still had a lot that they needed to work through, but this was as good of a start as any.
W&E
Enid put off talking to Autumn about her future living arrangements for as long as she could, but it was inevitable. She sits her down in the living room in the late morning and does her best to ease the young girl into it.
“Wednesday and I were talking and if it’s okay with you we wouldn’t be opposed to you living here with us.”
“Like forever?”
“Like for as long as you need and or want to.”
Autumn sits in contemplation for a moment, her eyes glossing over after a minute.
“Would you really do that for me?”
“Of course, I would.”
Autumn agrees and later that day Enid follows her back to her own home to pick up some of her belongings to bring back to their house.
The funeral is held in the middle of the following week and a little over a hundred people attend. Autumn stays glued to Enid’s side only greeting a few of the people that she knows from her childhood.
Her sister never showed up and Enid could see the disappointment written all over the young girl's face.
Everything in her parents' will is to be evenly divided between the girls not that Autumn seemed to care much about that. After the funeral she sticks around for maybe an hour before asking Enid if they could leave. Wednesday’s love of funerals is apparently nowhere to be found as she makes it to the car several minutes before them and has it running by the time they walk up.
Autumn falls into their routine nicely. Enid brings her to school every morning and they ride home together every evening. The young girl cooks with Wednesday some days and on others the eldest Addams heir helps her with her homework.
Enid can’t help but think that they make a cute little family, the three of them.
Speaking of families, the blond and her wife have begun their therapy sessions jointly to discuss just where all of their marital problems started. It’s easy to identify the catalyst and then propose a solution. Something that they had known all along.
They need to talk to each other more.
No more assuming how the other person feels or what the other person wants.
With the therapy well under way and their communication improved, Wednesday suggests that it’s time to make an appointment to try again. Enid is anxious at first and she tells Wednesday this to which they have several more long conversations about each other’s concerns.
It takes another three weeks, but they make the appointment, and everything goes just fine.
Enid feels weird at first being on the other side of this situation. Being the mom in the guest chair instead of on the exam table but she can’t help but think that Wednesday looks cute in her hospital gown.
The IVF treatments which had been borderline torture for Enid have been fun for Wednesday. She enjoys all of the needles and what not. Enid even jokes that they should have just tried to get Wednesday pregnant in the first place. This apparently is not very funny to the raven, and she glares her wife into silence.
The first person they tell when they find out that Wednesday is pregnant is Autumn. Enid can’t keep her excitement and when she sees the dinner table set with three placements instead of two it only feels right to tell the young girl the good news.
“Wednesday is pregnant. We’re going to have a baby!”
The girl’s shocked eyes were the only tell that she had heard anything she just said but then she started jumping up and down in joy.
“Congratulations you guys.”
Wednesday would deny it if anyone were brave enough to ask but she let a little smile take over her face at the sight of her wife and new live in teenager jumping around.
Notes:
Back to the fluff that I enjoy writing so much. The next update should be up withing a few days seeing as this one is also really early. I had so much fun writing this chapter, I hope you had just as much fun reading it. As always kudos and feedback are appreciated.

Chapter Text
To Wednesday pregnancy was a delightful kind of torture. She had aches and pains where she had never had them before, and her usual morbid visions are now full of bright colors and good omens.
She had minimum morning sickness compared to her wife. She had only had to get out of bed twice so far to ease an upset stomach.
Her cravings for everything but nutritious foods made Enid laugh. She would giggle every time she was asked to go buy some kind of fried abomination and Wednesday was too preoccupied with her growling stomach each time to care.
Autumn had been an interesting and helpful addition in this unprecedented time. She had been cooking for all three of them more times than not and she had even accompanied them to go shopping for baby things.
The young girl seemed to be just as excited as they are and that thought fills Wednesday with a feeling that she cannot name.
Her parents are due to be flying in tomorrow morning and her brother along with his wife and niece would be here later the next afternoon. Enid and Morticia had been tirelessly planning a baby shower for weeks.
Wednesday was only just entering her second trimester, but the other women were too excited to wait. The theme was woodland creatures but dark. Autumn had even had a hand in picking out decorations and would no doubt be setting up the day of. The girl had quite a talent for artistic tasks.
Speaking of her abilities, she had even assisted Enid in painting a mural on one of their nursery walls. It was a project that Enid had wanted to do when they were planning their first pregnancy but with the threat of toxic paint fumes, she hadn’t wanted to risk anything.
This time around she just made sure that Wednesday was outside of the house for a couple of days during the time of the painting process. Bianca lives a short drive away and she was more than happy to let them sleep over.
The piece had turned out fantastic of course, with plenty of attention to detail and eye-catching colors. The forest animals were both realistic, and though she was loathe to admit it, cute.
She had taken a couple of pictures to send to her family group chat and Pugsley unsurprisingly had responded with no less than twenty emojis expressing his love of the wall art.
Enid had been a dutiful partner in other ways during this pregnancy, rubbing her feet, carrying her places and Wednesday’s favorite, knitting baby clothes. The first two of course were unnecessary but the blond insisted. The last one had become a habit very early on and was becoming an addiction.
Enid had finished three pairs of socks, a couple of onesies and a hat so far. The hat was very impressive and in a dark grey that had Wednesday admiring it every time her eyes landed on it.
It was something that she would show off to her friends if she had any alas, she would have to settle for rambling about it slightly in her work meetings. She denies that the word vomit has anything to do with what Enid would call ‘mom brain.’
Her writing has been better than ever lately. She had beaten her pesky writers block and had hammered out several twists that would churn anyone’s gut. Her agent was pleased, and the book was to be published as scheduled.
If she were to admit to being victim to sentimental feelings, she would put more thought into the fact that her book’s scheduled publication date is on the same week as her due date. But she isn’t, that’s more Enid’s thing.
Enid had called it a good sign that two incredible things would be destined to happen in the same week. Wednesday had silently agreed with her.
The day they are to pick up her parents from the airport, Wednesday is feeling under the weather, so she elects to stay home while Enid drives to meet them. She is dozing in and out of consciousness when she hears her family’s arrival.
She can see from her spot in the living room that Autumn has already made it to the door and is formally introducing herself to her parents. She finds it endearing that the young girl is being so polite when she has already spoken to both of her parents over the phone and on various facetimes.
Then again, her parents could be much more intimidating in person.
“Oh, my little storm cloud how we’ve missed you.”
Her father comes barreling in and if she hadn’t already been sitting, she thinks her father would have knocked her over. He coos over her stomach and speaks to it gently for a few moments.
Her mother hip bumps him out of the way to have her own turn. She gives Wednesday their customary air kisses before speaking softly to her stomach as well.
She can see Enid over her mother’s shoulder standing in the doorway, smiling at them. Autumn is next to her taking this all in for the first time. It suddenly strikes her how similar Enid and Autumn’s childhoods are. Both of them have grown up without the love and support that Wednesday’s parents have so always freely given.
She vows then and there that Autumn should have her parents' contact information to use as often and as freely as she would like to. The young girl could only prosper from all of the compliments her parents often gave out like candy on Halloween.
Wednesday makes a mental note to talk to her parents about it later when they wouldn’t have an audience. With all of the greetings out of the way Enid makes her way back to the front of the house and Wednesday is confused for just a moment before she comes trudging back in with all the luggage in tow. Her wife’s strength still amazes her.
During dinner Autumn fits in as if she’s always been there. Her parents ask her about school and what she likes to do for fun. There’s plenty of questions about what her summer plans are and the young girl just shrugs with an answer that implies she’ll be tagging along with whatever they have planned.
Wednesday hadn’t actually planned on doing any traveling this summer seeing as her feet were growing more and more sore as the days go by. She already loathed summer vacations, her and Enid typically took their trips during the winter and fall. She wonders for just a minute if Autumn will be around for their next trip.
That night she finds herself wrestling with an inability to sleep. She gets out of bed slowly to avoid waking her slumbering wife who is snoring ever so slightly. When she gets downstairs her mother is standing at one of the windows in the living room. The curtains are drawn back so the younger Addams assumes that she is looking at their garden all lit up in the dark of night.
She makes it about three feet closer before her mother addresses her.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
“The little menace is most active at night.”
Her mother laughs softly, finally turning to face her.
“You were the same way.”
“It’s a shame I was hoping the little one would take more after Enid.”
They walk together over to the sectional where Morticia gracefully sits down next to a Wednesday who plops down in all her pregnant glory.
“I have a feeling they’ll will take after you both. Your personalities are both so strong.”
Wednesday rubs a hand absentmindedly over her stomach while she waits for her mother to begin speaking again. The older woman always was more of the talker between them.
“Autumn is even sweeter in person. It’s horrible the way she was treated and the tragedy that has befallen her at such a young age. Yet she’s very fortunate to have you and Enid to look after her.”
Wednesday hums in agreement.
“I believe Pugsley’s wife will adore her. They share some of the same passions. She’s quite the gifted pianist.”
She doesn’t understand why it’s so important to her that Autumn fit in with her family. Well, that’s not true she has a few theories that she refuses to voice out loud.
“She’ll have to play us something while we’re here.”
They talk for a little while longer before Wednesday heads back to bed where her wife is sitting up and rubbing her eyes tiredly.
“Where’d you go?”
“Just downstairs. I couldn’t sleep.”
Enid pulls her back into bed nuzzling into her neck immediately. The amount of body heat radiating off of the wolf alone is enough to lull her into a light slumber.
W&E
Enid doesn't brag about herself often, but she knows in the last few months that she has been a kickass wife. She has handled every little thing before Wednesday even has to ask for it and the pregnancy has been smooth sailing. Watching Wednesday grow their baby every day brings her such an insurmountable level of joy that Yoko has had to ask her to shut up about it several times. It seems like all she can talk about is their baby.
The nursery is pretty much complete already. She's already bought way too much baby clothes and their coffee table is filled with books on parenting. Her therapist had hit her with a hard question during one of her last solo sessions and it was regarding whether she’s doing all of this out of a need to be over supportive of Wednesday.
She had been so distant when they lost their first baby that she had isolated herself in her own grief, so was this just a way to compensate for how she reacted then? It’s possible but with all the talking that they’ve been doing both with each other and others she’s confident that her intentions are coming from the right place.
Autumn is in therapy too now. It was good for her to confide in Enid but now that the girl was living with them, and Enid was her sort of unofficial guardian, they agreed that it would be best if she also talked to a professional about some of the things that she was going through. A professional that wasn’t Enid.
The young girl was adjusting well. Her grades are good and she’s still practicing the things she loves. She goes out to hang with her friends on the weekends. She’s doing better than Enid imagines she would, if she had lost her parents at such a young age.
Gomez and Morticia are good at bonding with the young woman. They ask all of the right questions and say all of the right things. Morticia had even waited for permission before hugging the girl, not knowing her personal preferences for touch. Of course, the young girl had nearly tackled the Addams matriarch.
Autumn was touch starved and had been enjoying Enid’s affinity for hugs since the day she moved in. She had even gotten a couple of pats on the back from Wednesday after mastering a particularly hard geometry problem.
The next morning when she had to pick up her brother-in-law and his family from the airport, she had invited Autumn along for the ride. Her new SUV could seat up to eight so they would have plenty of room plus she figures the young girl may want to get out of the house for a couple of hours. Trading her sedan in for the bigger vehicle had been a no brainer and a newly pregnant Wednesday had scared the dealer into giving them a considerable price cut.
They listen to a lot of catchy pop songs on the drive over. Although the younger girl had confessed to preferring instrumentals over everything else, she was still a teenage girl and Taylor Swift is the music industry.
Pugsley’s plane has already landed by the time they get there, he’s at the gate holding a baby carrier in one arm and some luggage in the other. His wife is laughing at something he must have just said, throwing her head back in glee.
When he spots her, he tries and fails to wave but Enid appreciates the sentiment anyway. She hasn’t seen her niece since her birth and the little girl has already gotten so big. Autumn is following closely behind her, but she remains quiet throughout the introductions.
It takes very little convincing to get Pugsley to hand the bags over, but he keeps hold of the baby carrier. They get the little one’s seat all strapped in, and Pugsley’s wife decides to sit in the back with her. Enid takes her spot in the driver's seat and her brother-in-law claims the passenger spot. Autumn seems happy enough to sit towards the back with the baby.
“It’s going to be so cool to see Wednesday pregnant. I couldn’t really picture it when you guys gave us the news, but I think the idea is growing on me.”
“It’s definitely a sight to behold. She’s been rubbing her stomach more and more. It’s really cute.”
Enid hears a laugh from the back of the vehicle.
“Wednesday and cute in the same sentence I didn’t think I would ever hear that.”
Pugsley’s wife is witty and sweet, a perfect fit for the Addams family. More importantly a perfect match for Pugs.
“I would never dare call her cute to her face, even if she is.”
The rest of the drive passes quickly, and Enid is excited to be back at home with her wife and the rest of her family. Pugsley hugs Wednesday so hard he nearly picks her off the ground, the young man now being several inches taller than his older sister. His wife gives Wednesday a nod in greeting before making her way to the kitchen.
Enid picks up their niece's carrier and brings her to the living room to see her grandparents. Pugsley hadn’t moved far from his parents, so Morticia and Gomez got to see the baby often. It doesn't stop them from acting as if it’s been years since they’ve last laid eyes on her when she puts the little girl down in front of them.
Wednesday comes in the room a few minutes later watching her parents play fight over who should have the privilege of holding the little princess and while the two older Addams are bickering, she swoops in and gently cradles the baby to her chest.
“Hello Melvina, in their foolish fighting they haven’t even noticed that you are gone.”
Enid comes to rest her chin on Wednesday’s shoulder to gaze down at the baby.
“You’ve already grown so much Mel.”
Gazing down at the little girl who is just shy of a year-old Enid can’t help but think about how in just a few months she and Wednesday would have a baby of their own. She’s careful not to get too ahead of herself seeing as they still have so many bridges to cross but hope could never be a completely bad thing.
When Wednesday looks up at her and their eyes meet, she sees everything she needs to know that hope is the greatest thing they possess right now.
Notes:
This a bit of a filler chapter, the next chapter will be the actual baby shower with guest appearances from some of the Nevermore crew. There will be more humor and fluff as the Addams celebrate their very own Wednesday bringing a new life into this weird world. As always thank you for reading, thank you for feedback and thank you for kudos.
Chapter 7: Teamwork

“You know this party is kind of for you so it’s to be expected that you would make an appearance at some point.”
Wednesday feigns a shocked expression, bringing a hand to her own chest.
“Really? I had no clue.”

Chapter Text
Their backyard is more than big enough to host a baby shower. Her mother and Enid had been up late last night and early this morning preparing everything. There was a balloon arch, banners, food and more spread all over their residence.
Her father was scurrying back and forth trying to help where he could, but he was mostly just handing the two women things when they asked. Wednesday had sat herself in her office for the time being trying to find some peace and quiet. Autumn found her sitting in her desk chair and rubbing her temples in circular motions.
“Hey Wednesday, you okay?”
She opens her eyes and glances at the young woman, concern written all over her face.
“I’m fine it’s just a little loud out there.”
The young girl takes a seat on the worn leather couch against the opposite wall.
“I get it. Parties have never been my thing either.”
Wednesday hums and stands up, walking over to join the girl on the couch.
“Enid and my mother love them. Enid has planned every birthday party for the last ten years. She has a real talent for it.”
Autumn smiles and laughs a little.
“That sounds like her.”
Wednesday looks at the young girl, studying her more closely now.
“You know, you remind me of a much younger version of Enid.”
“Really?”
“Yes. Everyone always got to see the hyper, excited golden retriever side to her when we were in school but when it was just the two of us, she got to dial it down and relax. She has always had such a big heart for people even when she doesn't get the same treatment in return.”
Autumn hums and nods her head.
“It’s what made me trust her. I think a lot of school counselors are known for being unhelpful and that makes it hard for students to talk to them but Enid’s different. She actually cares.”
“That she does.”
W&E
Enid is more than pleased with how their home and yard look. Morticia had been meticulous in everything, and it had paid off big time. Her wife was around here somewhere probably sulking at the idea of socializing.
Pugsley had put the baby down to sleep about half an hour ago and since then she hadn’t been able to find her other half. She walks around a little more, stopping to talk to friends and family.
When she pops her head into one of the guest rooms to check on her sleeping niece, she finally finds her wife. Wednesday is standing near the crib staring down at the quiet girl.
“She’s so small and fragile.”
Enid hums.
“She’ll grow and one day she’ll be a force to be reckoned with just like her aunt.”
“Just like her aunts.”
Enid smiles at that and places a kiss of her wife’s cheek.
“You know this party is kind of for you so it’s to be expected that you would make an appearance at some point.”
Wednesday feigns a shocked expression, bringing a hand to her own chest.
“Really? I had no clue.”
Enid lets out a laugh before covering her mouth and with that they leave the room as quietly as possible.
All of their friends and family are spread out across the house and yard. Well, all of their friends and the family that supports them anyway. Enid wasn’t all that angry about her own family not being in attendance, she had gotten over that years before when they refused to come to the wedding. The Addams family was more than enough for her.
She spots her best friend laughing with Gomez in the backyard, so she guides her wife that way with a gentle hand laid upon the small of her back.
“Hey Addams. I was wondering where the guest of honor was hiding.”
Wednesday glares in response but Enid knows that there is a significant lack of malice behind it.
“Play nice Yoko. She’s a lot less controllable now that she has mom strength. I don’t know if I’ll be able to hold her back.”
Yoko shivers a little and takes a step back. Gomez laughs with his whole body and pats Yoko on the back.
“It would be wise to steer clear of my little terror for the time being.”
Yoko nods in agreement and understanding.
They make the rounds together talking to everyone about their future bundle of joy. Well, Enid talks, Wednesday mostly grumbles and tries not to threaten anybody's life. These are their closest friends after all.
As the day winds down into the night the last of their guests leave and Wednesday is beyond tired. Enid draws her a bath and puts a couple of candles burning. She bids the elder Addams goodnight and quietly makes her way upstairs.
Wednesday is just toweling off when Enid makes it to their room. She stares for a moment, enjoying the sight of her wife’s soft skin on display. Her eyes make a path from the pale girl’s shoulders down to her thighs before a throat being cleared tears her gaze away.
She locks eyes with beautiful brown ones, and she doesn't have it in her to be ashamed.
“See something you like?”
“Always.”
She says it without hesitation.
Wednesday drops her towel completely and it only takes seconds for Enid to pick her up and drop her onto the bed.
“I love you so much Wednesday Addams.”
Her wife looks up at her through her long lashes.
“I love you too Enid Addams.”
W&E
The next morning Wednesday has a hard time getting out of bed. Every muscle in her body is so fully relaxed that she doubts she’ll ever be able to use them again. Enid had taken such thorough care of her for what felt like hours. They didn’t stop until Wednesday needed to tap out due to exhaustion and oversensitivity.
The only reason she was awake in the morning and not in the afternoon is because their little menace has taken to tap dancing on her bladder. She gets up with a maximum level of effort and a badly suppressed groan.
Enid stirs beside her, but she doesn't wake up. Once Wednesday has relieved herself and feels more like a human being she makes her way downstairs. Her parents' bags are already packed and placed near the door and her father has a rather large pot of coffee ready and waiting on the countertop.
“Good morning darling.”
Her mother’s voice is soft and quiet, most likely in an attempt to avoid disturbing the morning calm. Her father sets a kettle going the moment he sees her, aware of the caffeine deficit she’s supposed to be in.
She quietly thanks him and takes a seat at the island as soon Autumn enters the room.
“Good morning.”
The fact that anyone could be so cheerful so early in the morning baffles her. She’s typically a morning person herself but that doesn't mean she’s happy about it.
Her parents greet the young girl with hugs and offers of breakfast, which she eagerly accepts. Enid joins them shortly, beelining straight for the bacon, snatching it right off the plate.
They have a good morning and Wednesday feels good enough to go to the airport with the rest of them to drop her parents off. Autumn steals the aux almost immediately and the sound of classical music fills the car. Wednesday is eternally grateful.
Her brother and his family had already made it by the time they got there and it’s bittersweet to watch all of them board a plane back home. She’s happy with the life she has built here with her wife and her career but sometimes she has a longing for her childhood home.
She knows that as soon as their little one is old enough to travel Enid would have them on the first available flight if she asked her. It’s one of the many reasons she loves her.
W&E
Enid swears she’s more nervous at these appointments than Wednesday is. The women are sitting in their usual exam room and Wednesday is already dressed down in a hospital gown, pout just barely noticeable.
The doctor would be telling them the gender today and although they both have been saying that they don’t care either way, Enid knows Wednesday is just as excited as she is to finally know.
They had refrained from guessing and a gender reveal party would not be happening, this was just for the two of them. They had agreed that the gender and name of the baby would remain a secret until they were born.
Their comfortable silence was broken by the doctor knocking a couple of times and poking her head in.
“Hey guys. How are you?”
They make small talk while the doctor prepares her equipment. Wednesday gasps a little when the gel hits her stomach. The doctor firmly moves the wand around to get a good look at their little one and Enid can’t help the few tears that escape her eyes.
Wednesday reaches up and brushes them away before returning her eyes to the screen in front of them.
“Everything looks perfectly normal. Would you like to know what you’re having?”
They both nod, at a loss for words.
“Congratulations ladies you’re having a boy.”
Enid immediately pictures a little boy with dark hair and freckles running around their home.
“Wait you’re having a girl?”
Their doctor sounds confused, maybe bewildered would be a better word.
“Which is it?”
Wednesday sounds annoyed but Enid knows she’s mostly concerned.
“Both. I don’t know how I missed this on previous ultrasounds but you’re expecting twins. There’s your little boy and that right there is your little girl.”
The doctor maneuvers the wand to reveal a second baby behind the first, curled up and looking quite comfortable.
“Oh my God.”
She hears Wednesday echo the sentiment right beside her.
W&E
Enid was a ball of energy the entire ride home, she couldn’t stop rambling about the joys of having two babies instead of one. Wednesday was understandably stressed. They would need to go shopping again to buy duplicates of everything.
They would need another crib, more clothes, more diapers and more everything.
Wednesday is so zoned out that the other girl doesn't even notice when they’ve pulled into the driveway. Enid has to shake her shoulder to get her attention.
“Wednesday are you alright?”
She blinks a few times, refocusing her vision.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?”
Before her wife can answer her, she opens her car door and strides to the front door leaving the blond woman behind.
She makes it to the kitchen and has a glass of water in her hand by the time Enid catches up to her.
“It’s okay if you’re freaking out, this is kind of a big deal.”
She takes a couple of deep breaths avoiding eye contact with her wife.
“I’m not freaking out.”
She hates the way her voice shakes.
“Wednesday we promised we’d be honest with each other.”
Wednesday takes her glass of water and walks over to the living room to sit down and collect her thoughts. After a couple minutes of silence, she opens her mouth.
“I was just becoming comfortable with the idea of having one baby to be responsible for and now we’re going to have two. How can I possibly be equally attentive to both of them?”
“You can’t be.”
“What?”
“You’re human Wednesday, well mostly human. We are going to mess up it kind of comes with the gig of being first time parents.”
Wednesday shakes her head ready to argue but Enid sends her a glance that shuts her up right away.
“Your parents weren’t perfect, but you still love them, and I think you turned out pretty great. No matter what we will love these kids and we will try our best and hopefully when they’re older they’ll recognize that.”
“You’re right but you do realize that this means twice as many diaper changes.”
Enid laughs so hard that she throws her head back.
“I guess I’ll change one of them while you change the other. Teamwork makes the dream work baby.”
Teamwork indeed.
Notes:
This summer heat has been killing me so writing in the air conditioning is a nice escape. Wednesday is obviously terrified about being a mother but what else is new. The next chapter will be up in a week and it will most likely cover the last stages of her pregnancy and maybe even birth. I won't go into too much detail, mostly because I'm not a medical expert. As always thank you for reading and thank you for the feedback.
Chapter 8: Together
Summary:
The twins are here finally.
or
Wednesday groans but she stands up and wobbles over to the bright blue monstrosity.
Enid quickly follows her and helps her get situated. The blond holds her hands as she bounces lightly, and she feels like an idiot.
“Do you feel any different?”
“I feel like a child.”

Chapter Text
Buying two of everything is actually a lot easier than Wednesday thought it would be. Mostly because Enid takes care of everything and tells her to sit back and relax. It takes a lot of restraint, but she listens and allows her wife to take the reins on this one thing.
Autumn is ecstatic when she hears the news, she even feels comfortable enough to make a joke about how she’s always wanted a baby sister and a baby brother. Wednesday had watched as Enid’s smile got even wider at the quip. She knows that her wife already considered Autumn to be like their daughter, so she knows that the comment solidifies her hopes.
Wednesday over the last couple of months had gotten used to the fact that they would now have two babies instead of one. She had spent hours thinking long and hard about the new reality that these twins would bring to them once they were born. She wonders if they will be identical. She thinks about what color their eyes will be and if they’ll be athletic like Enid or more academically skilled like her.
Wednesday spends most of her mornings daydreaming about what Enid will be like as a mom. She thinks about if the blond woman will be able to resist their children's pouts or if she will give in just as easily as Wednesday when her wife pulls the same look on her.
She’s in the middle of one of these daydreams when Enid walks into her office, knocking lightly on the door.
“Hey, I wanted to show you something. Are you busy?”
“Never too busy for you.”
Marriage and pregnancy have obviously made her soft. Something that she didn’t entirely hate anymore.
Enid skips over and hands the shorter woman a small box. She takes off the lid with a practiced precision. Something that she has learned from receiving many gifts from the blond over the last decade.
Inside the box is a small hat in a dark purple color, nearly identical to the gray one Enid had made months ago.
“I figured I needed to make two of everything now.”
“It’s very good. Your craftsmanship is getting better.”
Enid blushes lightly at the compliment.
“Thank you.”
Enid looks nervous all of a sudden and she tears her eyes away from Wednesday’s.
“There’s something else that I wanted to talk about actually.”
Wednesday closes her laptop and gives Enid her full attention.
“What is it?”
“I was thinking that maybe sometime after the twins are born, we could talk to Autumn about officially adopting her. She’s already fully moved in, and you heard her make the that joke about having siblings.”
Wednesday hums a bit and nods her head.
“It does seem like a natural progression.”
Enid lets out an excited sound and wraps the shorter girl in her arms, holding on tight.
W&E
The closer she got to her due date the more frustrated she became. She wants these little nuisances out and she wants them out now. These babies were supposed to be out a couple of days ago. Her feet are swollen beyond recognition, she can only seem to eat bacon cheeseburgers and she’s already cried openly twice this week.
Autumn had actually looked a little scared when she had witnessed the salty tears stream down Wednesday’s face yesterday. The novelist had seen a commercial for dog food in which the puppy grew up with its owner, it was very sentimental. She had briefly thought about asking Enid for a dog. Stupid mom brain.
Enid has had their hospital bag packed for several days now and the wolf is only heightening her anxiety. She’s been pacing back and forth for the last hour mumbling to herself about due dates and epidurals.
Wednesday would be going through this all natural if she had anything to say about it. Enid was worried about the pain but that was the last thing on Wednesday’s mind.
“Stop pacing you’re making me dizzy.”
“Sorry.”
Enid has the decency to look sheepish as she takes a seat on their bed where Wednesday has been trying to get comfortable.
“Why don’t you try the exercise ball? I heard it helps.”
Wednesday groans but she stands up and wobbles over to the bright blue monstrosity.
Enid quickly follows her and helps her get situated. The blond holds her hands as she bounces lightly, and she feels like an idiot.
“Do you feel any different?”
“I feel like a child.”
This goes on for God only knows how long before a crash can be heard from downstairs. It startles the pregnant woman so much that she almost doesn’t notice the wetness trailing down her legs.
Enid was looking towards the source of the noise but with a quick tug of her hand her eyes are back on Wednesday, and they widen comically.
Enid doesn't utter a word she simply picks her wife up bridal style and carries her all the way to the front door Autumn is standing just off to the side in the kitchen cleaning her hand, or at least attempting to.
Wednesday can’t tell but it seems like the young girl has cut her hand open pretty badly.
“Autumn wrap your hand in a towel and get in the car we’re going to the hospital.”
The girl looks up at them surprised.
“It’s not that bad I don’t think I need to go to the hospital.”
Wednesday scoffs and Enid wants to laugh at the absurdity of the moment.
“You might not need a doctor but Wednesday does. Let’s go.”
The younger girl lets out an understanding gasp and races after them and out of the door.
They got to the hospital in record time and Enid only had to break a couple of laws to manage it.
They are shown to a room the minute they walk in, and Enid explains the situation. Wednesday is looked after first the nurses checking all of her vitals while another nurse comes in to look at Autumns hand.
Once the young girl is all stitched up and Wednesday is looking only mildly uncomfortable in her hospital gown Enid lets out a relieved sigh.
They made it and now all they have to do is wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And wait.
It’s another three hours before Wednesday can even begin pushing. That being said, the stubborn girl gets both their babies out with just one hour of active labor.
Autumn had left the room once the medical staff had begun rushing in. Enid had been ushered into a special outfit to protect her clothes from the various liquids that would be coming out of her wife.
Wednesday, true to her word, had done it all without any pain medication. Their baby boy had come out first, just twenty minutes after she had begun pushing. Their girl was more stubborn and had not wanted to leave the comfort of the womb for anything.
Enid had held Wednesday’s hand as she pushed as hard as she could, and she had cried the moment they could see her head. It didn’t realistically take long for the nurses to weigh and clean the babies but to Wednesday it felt like eternity.
Enid’s eyes were full of love as she gazed down at Wednesday and then up towards where the nurses who were bringing the babies back to them.
They gently lay their son on Wednesday’s chest, and they hand their little girl to Enid.
Their doctor tells them to take their time in filling out the paperwork, but Enid is so excited to finally write out their names that she lays their little girl down and picks up the clipboard immediately.
Her impeccable handwriting drags across the page as she writes out their names for the first time.
Wednesday drags her eyes away from her wife to look at the sweet face of their son. “Welcome to this dreary world Caspian.”
Enid finishes the paperwork and picks up their little girl once more.
“Your other mom is a bit of a pessimist Estelle.”
They hear a faint knock on the door and a second later Autumn is poking her head in.
“Hey guys.”
Autumn walks over to Enid first, getting a good look at the little girl in her arms.
“Hi little one.”
She reaches a hand forward to lightly touch the baby’s head. Autumn then moves over to look at their son sleeping on Wednesday’s chest. The young girl has tears in her eyes and Wednesday nods her head to give her silent permission.
Autumn runs one of her thumbs over one of Caspian’s eyebrows, cooing at the little boy.
Wednesday can’t help but think that they look like a proper family.
W&E
They spend a couple of days in the hospital just to make sure that everyone is healthy. The babies spend most of their time sleeping because they’re babies. The women in the room spend most of their time watching the sleeping babies.
Wednesday isn’t in too much pain all things considered so Enid takes that as a good sign. The author gets an email as they're strolling out of the hospital about to buckle the car seats in. It’s from her publisher letting her know that her newest book had hit the shelves earlier that morning and everything was looking good.
She wonders for a moment if it would have been possible for a younger version of herself to have predicted a future quite like this.
When they get home there is a package sitting on their front steps next to a bouquet of flowers that she knows is from her parents. Autumn helps them carry everything in and once they have the babies settled and sleeping Enid opens the small brown box.
It’s a hardcover of her book and when Enid hands it to her she opens it up to the front page where a dedication is clearly printed. She opens it wider to show both her wife and Autumn.
To the people from which all my inspiration stems, Enid, Autumn, Caspian and Estelle.
“That’s literally so cool ma, I’m going read it right now.”
Wednesday smirks a bit before her eyes widen in realization.
Enid looks just as shocked, but she remains silent.
“I....I mean....I didn’t...”
“Go read it. I want to know what you think the moment you’re done.”
Autumn goes off to her room with a flush on her cheeks and a pep in her step.
“Should I be offended that she called you ma first.”
Wednesday just laughs. She laughs loud enough that she wakes the babies. Both of their little ones blinking up at their mothers.
W&E
Enid knew that motherhood was going to be hard. It was a basic fact that had been drilled into her from the beginning, with the way her mother always complained and random women on the internet. It was like all people could tell them during both her own short pregnancy and Wednesday’s long one was that it was going to be unbelievably hard.
Imagine her surprise when the babies latch onto both their feeding and sleeping schedules right off the bat. Either she has the best babies known to mankind or everyone else was exaggerating.
Sure, the babies cry and sometimes they pee right after their diapers have been changed but that all comes with the territory. Wednesday and her alternate between getting up to see about them when they wake up so neither of them are overly exhausted.
Autumn even gets up a few times to lend a hand.
The babies are growing more distinctive every day. Far from identical twins Caspian has Wednesday’s dark hair and freckles but Enid’s blue eyes. Estelle has hair much lighter like Enid’s and dark eye’s similar to her wife’s. They are perfect in every way.
Gomez and Morticia have already booked a flight to come meet them for the first time, the grandparents having only seen the babies over facetime thus far.
With everything going so smoothly over the last few weeks Enid can’t help but reflect on what her life has become. She has a beautiful wife, a fulfilling career and three wonderful children. (Yes three!)
Regardless of what was to come she knew that they would be able to conquer it together.
Notes:
This is the last chapter of this fic but I may do some one shots in a series for this. It would be exploring the dynamics of this family as they all grow. Let me know if y'all would be interested in reading that. As always the feedback and kudos are appreciated. Thank you for reading.
