Seraphina's Tea Quest

Summary:

The Purple Spot Parasite escapes, and Seraphina the fairy must travel through universes to gather ingredients for the cure.

Chapter 1: The Prologue

Chapter Text

“What I wouldn’t give for every universe to be as harmonious as this…”

A universe-hopping fairy by the name of Seraphina watched over the students of Elmore Junior High, her most recent choice to visit. She adored how so many different people could all get along and live peacefully here. She sighed as she held her copy of The Curious Case of Camp Candytuft on her lap. “Such a beautiful place. So inviting to everyone.”

“Why are you monologuing on top of the lockers?”

Seraphina jumped as she realized that she wasn’t invisible to those around her. Two pre-teen boys were giving her weird looks. “Do you even go here?” One of them asked.

Seraphina hopped down from the lockers. “Sorry. I guess I was lost in my thoughts.” She looked around. “I don’t go to this school, but I wish I did. Everyone is so accepting and inviting around here.”

One of the boys, a thin blue cat, cocked an eyebrow. “So if you don’t go here, then why are you hanging out on school campus?”

“I’m a universe hopper, child.” Seraphina opened a tiny window into the rainbow void, a place where she could travel between worlds. “I was just paying you a visit.”

The cat’s buddy, a little goldfish, shoved his face into the window. “Oh! Hello, Steven!”

“Hey, what’s going on with you?” Seraphina couldn’t see whoever this Steven was, but she suspected he was giving this goldfish a fist bump.

“So, um, are you allowed to be here?” The cat asked. “Cause if not, I think this visit of yours might be illegal.”

“No worries.” Seraphina waved off the question. “If I can’t be here at the moment, then I’ll be on my…” She trailed off when she spotted a strange, bug-looking creature buzzing around behind their heads. The three of them jumped as the bug blitzed by them and entered the small window.”

“What was that?!” The goldfish squeaked.

“Oh no.” Seraphina was quickly catching on to what she had just witnessed. “I need to leave, right now.” She opened up the portal and jumped inside.

Chapter 2: Purple Spot Pox

Chapter Text

Normally, toddlers are expected to cry every so often. Some more than others; unpredictable creatures, they are. But this morning, in the daycare room of Morinomiya Secondary School, little Kazuma Mamizuka had not stopped weeping all day. “Come on, Kazu-kun,” soothed Ryuuichi as he gently bounced the toddler, trying to calm him down. “I know you’re a crier, but this is ridiculous.”

“Well, you can’t just carry on like that and expect it to work.” Usaida took Kazuma from him. “If he’s been crying this much, something must be wrong with him.” He held up the little boy. “Are you hungry?”

“Uh uh.” Kazuma fussed, his little fists clenched.

“He’s not cold,” mused Usaida, “I can feel how warm he is.”

“Warm?” Ryuuichi felt Kazuma’s face. “You’re right, he’s burning up.” He took the baby back. “Is that what’s wrong? Are you sick?”

Ryuuichi laid Kazuma down on his back to check him over. “Come on, what hurts?”

“Kiwin knows! Kiwin knows!” Kirin toddled over them and pressed her little hands on Kazuma’s middle. “Wight hewe!”

Kazuma nodded alongside Kirin. “Uh huh.”

“And your parents didn’t notice?” Usaida asked.

Ryuuichi picked Kazuma back up and cradled him. “Aw, they should have kept you home if you’re sick.” He held the little bundle close and rubbed his back. “There, there…we’ll look after you until your mommy gets here.” He looked up at Usaida. “Usaida-san, call home. Kazu-kun can’t stay here.”

But before Usaida could move, a portal into the rainbow void opened up in the playroom, and out came Seraphina into the daycare. “Faiwy! Faiwy!” Takuma chirped.

"Aya!" Midori squealed, trying to grab at Seraphina from over Usaisa's shoulder.

Seraphina looked up, and spotted Kazuma in Ryuuichi’s arms. “Oh, no, I’m too late.” She cupped his face in her hands. “Those are the purple spots alright.”

“Purple spots?” Ryuuichi took another look, and sure enough, little purple spots were beginning to appear on Kazuma’s face. "Eep! Where did those come from?!"

Seraphina looked up. “Have any of you seen any bugs flying around?”

“Yes,” said Usaida, “a few flies have gotten in here.”

“Just as I expected.” Seraphina shook her head. “This little one must have been bitten by the Purple Spot Parasite.”

“What?” Usaida asked. “That’s crazy. There’s no such thing.”

“Well, how did Kazu-kun get these spots then?” Ryuuichi asked him.

“Let me see.” Seraphina picked Kazuma up and gently held him. “Now, don’t you worry. I know a very good healthcare clinic to take him to. He can stay there and get treatment.” She reached out for Usaida to join her. “Come along. He’ll need someone to stay with him.”

“Takuma! Takuma! Wait!” Kazuma cried, reaching out for his twin brother.

“I’m sorry, little one,” soothed Seraphina, “but Takuma can’t come with you. He looks to be completely healthy.” She stroked a finger across his forehead. “We’re going somewhere where doctors and nurses can help take care of you.”

In the Pretty Cure Health Clinic, Saaya was just finishing up Chiho’s checkup. “That’s a good girl,” she cooed to her. “Well, Mari-chan, your baby is perfectly healthy.”

“Umai!” Chiho squeaked, grabbing a fistful of Saaya's blue locks.

“Good girl,” praised Rosemary as he took his daughter back. “Thank you, Saaya.”

As the two of them stepped back out into the lobby, the rainbow void opened up, and deposited Seraphina, Kazuma, and Usaida into the clinic. “Seraphina!” Rosemary jumped. “You’re back!”

“Indeed,” said Seraphina. “But not for a visit. Unfortunately, I’ve brought in a patient who needs tending to.”

Seraphina presented Kazuma to Saaya, who took him in her arms. “My, look at you,” she said surprised, “you’re all spotty!”

“The Purple Spot Parasite has breached containment,” explained Seraphina, “and this poor little boy just so happened to be its first victim.”

“What’s the Purple Spot Parasite?” Usaida asked. “You haven’t explained this situation at all to us.”

“It’s a bug that carries the virus for Purple Spot Pox.” Seraphina continued. “It’s known for the purple spots, but other symptoms include weakness, fever, and either nausea or a severe cough.”

Saaya held the wailing Kazuma. “I suppose this little one didn’t get the cough.”

“No, not him.” Seraphina shook her head.

“Come on, let’s get you to bed.” Saaya brought Kazuma to a toddler’s care room, where she settled him into a little bed with green blankets. “There. Nice and cozy.”

Kazuma, feeling at least a little comforted, whimpered softly. “Takuma…”

“I know,” soothed Seraphina, “I’m sorry that your brother couldn’t come with you. I’m sure we can get him to visit sometime.”

Saaya looked up at Seraphina. “Do you know if there’s a cure for this?”

“Thankfully, there is.” Seraphina fluttered her wings. “The cure is a drink of Queen Gwendolyn’s famous tea.” She turned to the window. “The problem is, the ingredients are spread so far apart from each other. To make it, I’ll need water from the Fire Falls of DunBroch, lemons from a caring gardener’s tree, honey made from Thumbelina’s nectar, and a pinch of sugar from the sweetest source one can find.”

“Oh my,” said Saaya. “What do we do?”

“Leave it to me,” insisted Seraphina. “I’ll find those ingredients and make that tea if it’s the last thing I ever do.” She linked pinkies with Kazuma. “Mark my words, I will not stop until you’re better and on your way home.”

Chapter 3: The First Jump

Chapter Text

Seraphina leapt into the rainbow void, aiming to head to DunBroch first for the water. However, as she was about to land, something crashed into her, sending her hurtling in the opposite direction of where she needed to go. She yelped, trying to float back onto the correct path, but it was too late; she was sucked into a different landing place.

Flailing through the air, Seraphina found herself back in Fairyland, struggling to regain her balance. She fluttered her wings, and gave herself a bit of composure to land properly.

Several fairies looked up from what they were doing when they saw Seraphina arrive. “Why, it’s Seraphina!” Grace yelped. “She’s come back for a visit!”

"I wanna see!" Polly, grabbing hold of her sister's wrist, fluttered after her.

"Wait for me!" Storm raced the girls, dragging a surprised Gabriella behind her.

The fairies all swarmed around her. “Where have you been visiting?” Carrie asked.

“I’ve heard so much about you,” said Gwen, “is it true that you’re a hero in the Pretty Cure universe?”

“Have you met any princesses recently?” Princess Eva swooned.

"Ooh, or dragons?" Ashley bounced on her heels.

"Even better! A princess riding a dragon!" Libby fluttered her wings.

“Please, give me space!” Seraphina held her hands up. “I was aiming to reach the kingdom of DunBroch. I have some urgent matters to handle with Princess Merida.”

“What kind of matters?” Carmen asked.

Seraphina felt her mood drop as she had to explain. “The Purple Spot Parasite has escaped, spreading a pox everywhere it goes. A poor little boy has already fallen sick.”

The fairies all gasped! “Oh, that’s terrible!” Ella exclaimed.

“To make the cure, I needed water from the Fire Falls,” continued Seraphina. “But while I was on my way to DunBroch, I was knocked off my path and sent here instead.”

"Oh, no, that simply won't do!" Goldie shook her head.

Elisa took Seraphina’s hands. “Don’t worry. Merida is my very best friend. I’m sure I can get in contact with her and let her know you’re coming.” She focused her magic and tried to reach a connection to DunBroch. “Hello? Merida? Merida!”

"Merida! Can you hear us?!" Lily shouted into Elisa's magic mirror.

But nothing came of it. The call just fizzled out into sparks on the ground. “No signal! She must be out of the castle!”

Getting stressed out, Seraphina put her hands to her temples; her fingers felt cold against her skin. “Oh, what do I do now? I can’t be veering off course from my mission already! I promised Kazuma I would find the cure as soon as I could!”

Heather put her hands on Seraphina’s shoulders. “Don’t fret, my friend. In due time, your quest will be fulfilled. I can sense a great determination in your aura; that tells me that you won’t give up until that cure is safely in your grasp.”

"She's right." Evie patted Seraphina's back. "To worry is to waste time on the unknown."

Seraphina took a deep breath. “Thank you, my dears. Now, if you don’t mind, I need to focus my energy on making my next-”

“Jump!” Saffron blitzed by, vaulting herself over a hedge to hide. The fairies looked up, and spotted the Purple Spot Parasite in the sky! Now, to a human, that parasite would be no bigger than a common house fly, but to a fairy, it was humongous! The fairies all yelped, and scattered.

“Quick! Out of the way!” Maddie scampered up a tree to hide among the leaves, followed quickly by Paige and Emily.

“I’ll try and hold it off!” Samira used her magic to create a frosty barrier, blocking off the parasite.

"I'll help you!" Esme fortified the barrier with her thick ice cream.

“That should keep it from getting to us!” Seraphina shouted. However, her relief didn’t last long, and her eyes widened when she spotted a few fairies still stuck on the other side. “No!!”

Unfortunately, Seraphina’s loud shout only made the situation worse, as it directed the Purple Spot Parasite’s attention towards poor Sophie, who was giving Tasha a boost to try and kick it in the face. A gleeful smile spread across its face as it buzzed down and took a big chomp on her knee.

“Sophie! No!” India battered on the barrier, trying to reach her sister. The icy barrier disappeared as the Purple Spot Parasite escaped through a wormhole, and India fell down face first.

Scarlett instead came forward to collect her little sister. "She's burning up," she said. "She needs a doctor!"

Tasha knelt down next to Sophie as well. "I thought for sure I could fight that big bug away! Aw, Sophie, I'm so sorry!"

"Here." Seraphina opened up a portal. "Follow this tunnel to the Pretty Cure Health Clinic."

Scarlett nodded, and into the tunnel she flew.

In the clinic, Chiyu was heading in to give Kazuma his medicine when a portal opened up and deposited Scarlett and Sophie into the room. “Oh!” Chiyu jumped a bit. “Hello! What brings you here?”

“Seraphina sent us here,” said Scarlett. “That parasite thing she’s chasing bit my sister.”

“Really? Let me see.” Chiyu cupped her hands, and let Sophie lay down in them. “Mm, yes, she does feel very warm. Luckily, our toddler’s care room contains some small, mascot-sized beds. Just right for fairies.”

In the toddler’s care room, Rosemary was sitting in a rocking chair, doing his best to get Kazuma to sleep. “Oh, Mari-chan,” said Chiyu as she entered, "I didn’t realize you were still here.”

“I’m giving Saaya-chan a hand,” explained Rosemary. “She had some other business to attend to, so I agreed to watch over Kazu-kun.”

“Umai!” Umai-chan, perched on the back of the chair, chirped.

Chiyu looked around as she put Sophie into a tiny bed. “Where did Usaida-san go?”

“He was sent back to the daycare,” said Rosemary. “They need him more than we do.”

Kazuma gripped Rosemary’s shirt in his little fist. “Mawi-cha…”

Rosemary rubbed Kazuma’s back. “Yes, yes, sweetheart, I know…”

"Come on, Kazu-kun, it's time for your medicine." Chiyu plucked Kazuma from Rosemary's arms and gave him his medicine; some liquid Pepto-Bismol in a sippy cup.

"Are you sure this is a safe place for Sophie?" Scarlett asked. "I would sell my soul to Jack Frost before I would leave my sister in danger's way."

"Relax, little friend," soothed Chiyu. "We offer the best care at this clinic to everyone, regardless of species, gender, age, or race."

"Indeed," agreed Rosemary. "I trust them the most to care for my baby." He picked up Umai-chan, who had poofed back into Chiho, and held her gently.

Scarlett released the tension in her shoulders. "Thank you. Take good care of her."

Chapter 4: When Life Gives You Lemons

Chapter Text

After dropping Sophie off at the hospital, Seraphina made her next jump, hoping to make it to DunBroch this time. She streamed through the rainbow void, as her portal into the kingdom drew nearer.

But right before she could make it through, something knocked into her once again. In a flash of light, the portal to DunBroch closed up. “Wait! Come back!” Seraphina shouted, flailing her arms as she tried to force herself back into the right current. But it was too late; she was already being pulled into a different portal.

In the new world, there were blue skies, a wide ocean, and a city by the water. Regaining her composure, Seraphina floated around, looking for a sign of help, until she landed on top of an umbrella outside a cafe to rest her wings.

She heard a puppy barking, and looked down over the umbrella to see a Cockapoo puppy yelping. “It’s a fairy!”

“Huh? Where?” The puppy’s owner, a young boy with slick hair, picked her up, and then spotted Seraphina. “Oh, yeah, there she is!”

Seraphina hopped off the umbrella and fluttered before them. “Yes, indeed, I’m a fairy. A fairy who happens to be in a very stressful situation right now.”

“Why, what’s wrong?” The boy asked.

Seraphina took a deep breath to steady herself before explaining. “I need to find ingredients to make a special tea. It’s the only cure for the pox that’s been spreading through universes. But every time I try to reach the places I need to go, I get knocked out of the way and end up lost.”

“For real?” Another puppy circled around the boy’s legs. “What kind of universes?”

“Anywhere the Purple Spot Parasite can reach,” said Seraphina. “Everyone is in danger until the cure is made and the parasite is contained.”

The boy looked over the puppies, then back up at Seraphina. “Maybe we can help you.”

“Do you really think you can do it?” Seraphina asked. “The ingredients I need are pretty rare.”

“No sweat!” The smaller puppy chirped. “Whatever it is, we can find it!”

“Yeah!” The bigger puppy chimed in. “‘Cause we’re the PAW Patrol, and no job is too big for us!”

The boy offered a finger for Seraphina to shake. “I’m Ryder, these are Skye and Chase. And there’s plenty more where that came from.” He opened the door to the cafe and whistled. “Let’s go, pups! We’ve got work to do!”

Four dogs all barreled outside and skidded to a halt, nearly falling over themselves in front of Seraphina. “We’re ready!”

“Wonderful,” said Seraphina, “but we need very specific ingredients. Water from the Fire Falls of DunBroch, nectar from Thumbelina’s flowers, lemons from a caring gardener’s tree-”

“You need lemons?” Chase interrupted. “Why didn’t you say so in the first place? We can just bring you to Brianna’s place to pick some!”

"Oh, yeah, she's weally cool!" A Chocolate Labrador puppy wagged his tail. "I bet she has plenty of lemons to shawe!"

“Rocky and I will take you there!” Skye hopped into her helicopter, parked nearby. “Let’s go!”

Seraphina, Skye, and Rocky took a ride down the road to a bungalow painted green. Even before knocking on the door, Seraphina could see fruit trees in the backyard. The door opened to reveal a teenage girl with flowers weaved into her shaggy, tawny hair. “Hello?”

“Hi, Brianna, it’s us!” Rocky wagged his tail. “Are your lemons ready to harvest?”

“Oh, of course! They’re, like, so nice this time of year.” Brianna led Seraphina and the two pups into the backyard. There sat a garden of fruits and vegetables on one side, flowers on the other, and some trees with fruit hanging from their branches.

“Wow, your pink lilies came in really strong this year,” said Skye, sticking her face into one of the blossoms to smell it.

“Oh, definitely,” agreed Brianna, taking a step-stool to reach the lemons. “They weren’t really vibing with the fertilizer I was giving them, so I started mixing in the compost, and then they just shot up like rockets.”

Seraphina marveled at the crops surrounding her. When presented with the lemons in a little basket, she swore she could see them twinkle in the sunlight. “Amazing! You must be the caring gardener that the recipe speaks of!”

"What recipe?" Brianna cocked an eyebrow.

"I'm here to find ingredients for a very special tea." Seraphina explained. "One of them was lemons from a very caring gardener. And that happens to be you."

“Seriously?” Brianna was impressed with herself. “That’s, like, a really big honour.”

“And well deserved.” Seraphina bowed her head to Brianna. “You show a level of caring and kindness towards your garden that most people don’t even show to their fellow man. That tells me you have a pure heart.”

Brianna blushed and bowed her head back. “Come back anytime you wish.”

“You all have done a huge favour for me. I insist you take these as a token of my gratitude.” Seraphina used her magic to conjure up rainbow pins for the gang. “These are for you, and for your friends.”

“Ooh, it looks so good on my collar!” Skye turned in circles, admiring the pin.

“Thank you for everything.” Seraphina held the basket. “Now, if you don’t mind, I need to bring these lemons to the Pretty Cure Health Clinic for safekeeping.”

Back in the Pretty Cure Health Clinic, Kazuma was just waking up from a nap when Seraphina quietly slipped into the room to store the lemons. “Takuma?”

“I’m sorry, little one,” soothed Seraphina, “but Takuma isn’t here.”

“Who’s Takuma?” Sophie asked.

“His twin brother,” explained Seraphina. “He had to leave him behind to come here.”

“I see…” Sophie picked up her wand. “My magic still works. Do you want to make a wish, Kazuma?”

Kazuma looked up at Sophie’s bed on the shelf with teary eyes. “Wish fo’ Takuma…”

“Your wish is my command.” Sophie focused her magic to grant his wish.

Soon, Nodoka came into the room with a CurePad. “Oh, Kazuma, somebody wants to talk to you.”

She showed him the screen, where the Morinomiya School’s daycare was on the other side. Ryuuichi had Takuma sitting in his lap. “Kazuma!” Takuma squeaked, waving his hands at the screen.

“T-Takuma…” Kazuma cooed softly, watching everyone on the CurePad.

“It’s Kazu-kun!” Kirin came over and got really close to the screen.

“Kazu-kun.” Kotaro looked out from behind Ryuuichi’s back.

“Aba!” Midori yelled from offscreen.

“We love you, Kazuma!” Takuma chirped, excited to see his brother again.

“How has he been feeling?” Ryuuichi asked Nodoka.

“He’s still very weak,” explained Nodoka, “but he’s been sleeping well and takes his medicine without a fight. He’s very well-behaved.”

“That’s good to hear,” said Ryuuichi. “I hope he’ll be healing soon.”

“Bye bye, Kazuma!” Takuma cooed before the video cut off.

Nodoka petted Kazuma’s hair. “Do you feel better now that you got to talk to Takuma again?”

“Uh huh…” Kazuma mumbled. “T’ank you…”

Chapter Text

That evening, Seraphina remained in the Health Clinic to train her magic so she could make the perfect jump and not get thrown off course. After her messy day of failing to reach DunBroch, she had no time to waste on risking landing in the wrong world.

Around that same time, Sora came into the clinic to visit the patients, along with Elle-chan. Elle-chan, of course, wanted to visit the baby patients, so Sora brought her along to visit Kazuma. “Eru!” Elle-chan squeaked, reaching her hands out to Kazuma.

Sora placed Elle-chan down on the bed with Kazuma, and she and Karen supervised the little ones as they chattered to each other. “We’re lucky this pox can only be spread through that parasite,” said Karen. “I’m sure Kazu-kun would have been very lonely if it were contagious.”

“Eru!” Elle-chan crawled up and latched onto Kazuma. Kazuma, soothed by Elle-chan’s magical aura, softly cooed as he snuggled into the blankets.

Karen gently stroked a hand over Kazuma’s head. “I think this is the first time he’s sort-of smiled since he got here.”

“I just hope the pox lets up soon,” mused Sora. “He’s so little…he doesn’t deserve to be so sick.”

The two of them watched over the babies as Seraphina meditated, focusing her energies. As much as she wished she could be there, comforting the patients who had fallen victim to the Purple Spot Parasite, she knew she had to save her power for her next jump.

Outside the building, there came the sound of a giant footstep. Sora and Karen both looked around, confused by the sound. Then came another. Sora pulled the curtains open to discover a monster stomping around outside, bumbling towards the clinic. “Ranborg!”

“Yipe!” Karen jumped. “The kids!” She rushed to get the patients to a safer part of the building.

“That big brute’s not gonna hurt anyone on my watch!” Sora gripped her Sky Mirage tight in her fist. “Tone Connect! Hirogaru Change!”

As Karen and Seraphina evacuated the ward to safer grounds, Sora transformed into Cure Sky. “Blue sky, soaring to infinity! Cure Sky!”

Outside, Cure Sky launched herself into the air to battle the Ranborg. She soared through the air, spinning circles around the big monster. The Ranborg tried to follow the spiraling lights, but got dizzy and fell onto his back. It attempted to swing at her, but its arms were too long and awkward, and it missed, just tangling itself up even further.

"Sky! Take this!" Karen, calling on some of her energy from Cure Aqua, launched a rope of ice into Cure Sky's hands, which she used to wrap around the Ranborg, keeping it from getting back up to continue fighting.

Now that Cure Sky had the Ranborg exactly where she wanted, she conjured up an attack. “Hirogaru, Sky Punch!” She slammed down into the Ranborg with a major force of power, bursting it into a huge blast of light. Just as a precaution, she leapt from each little light bubble and made them pop, so none of them could hit the hospital walls.

But by a cruel twist of fate, the Ranborg was not Cure Sky’s downfall, but something else entirely. For you see, during their battle, the Purple Spot Parasite just so happened to worm its way into the Cures’ world, and had its beady little eyes set on Cure Sky’s arm. Right when her back was turned, it snuck up on her and took a big chomp out of her elbow. Cure Sky yelped and fell from the air, landing on the ground as her normal self again.

“Sora!” Karen, holding Elle-chan, and Nodoka, holding Kazuma, both rushed outside to find their friend lying on the ground, motionless.

Seraphina slipped in between the two to see the dreaded purple spots appearing on Sora’s skin. “Oh no.” She helped push her upwards for Karen and Nodoka to pick up and bring inside.

Lugging Sora inside, Seraphina fluttered around her head as Karen and Nodoka put her in bed. “Three victims…three servings of tea. I have to find the ingredients fast, or soon, we’ll have too many patients and not enough tea for all of them.”

Kazuma clung tightly onto Nodoka. “Sowa…”

“She was very brave to do what she did,” said Nodoka softly. “She would do anything to keep people safe. And that includes you.” She took Elle-chan from Karen and brought them back to the toddlers’ ward, now that it was safe there.

Saaya, bringing in Sophie, followed after Nodoka. “What happened out there?”

“Ranborg fight,” said Nodoka. “Sora came out of it in rough shape.”

“Aw, that’s too bad.” Saaya put Sophie in her little bed.

“Yeah…” Nodoka put the kids down. “It was not pretty.”

Kazuma clung onto Nodoka’s hand and wouldn’t let go. He was already scared enough when it was just little people like him getting sick. But now that a great hero like Sora was struck down, the little hope he had was disappearing fast. Nodoka picked him back up and rubbed his back. “Shh, shh, Kazu-kun… it will be okay…”

“Sowa…” Kazuma whimpered.

“I know, I know,” said Nodoka. “But she’ll be okay, too. We all will be.”

Seraphina returned to her peak. “I must enter a state of ultra focus. I don’t have any time to waste; I need to get to DunBroch for the tea water as soon as I can.” She cupped her hands in front of her, crossed her legs, and closed her eyes. A blue aura surrounded her, encasing her in her state until the morning, when she would be awakened and leave to continue her quest.

Chapter 6: A Conspiracy Uncovered

Chapter Text

Early in the morning, Seraphina awoke from her slumber on a protected jump to DunBroch; because of her ultra focus, there was a barrier surrounding her that prevented her from getting knocked out of line.

On the other end of the portal, Seraphina landed at the peak of a cliff, right next to the Fire Falls. Relieved that she had finally made it, she opened up a bottle to fill with water from the rushing falls.

However, as she stepped back, she noticed something sparkling on the ground. She knelt down and discovered a sprinkling of purple fairy dust on the ground. Odd; fairies didn’t normally live in DunBroch.

Unless…Seraphina thought of the previous day. How she had been knocked off her course twice while trying to jump here.

Maybe it wasn’t an accident?

Hearing the distinct sound of an arrow piercing wood in the nearby forest, Seraphina flew down and weaved in between the trees, looking for whoever it may be down there. As she suspected, it was Princess Merida, bow in hand, out for some morning target practice. Seraphina attracted her attention with a twig, perfectly sharpened, directly into the bullseye of the target. Merida turned around. “Oh, it’s you!”

“Indeed it is,” said Seraphina. “You’re looking well this morning, my princess.”

“Mum insisted on the dress,” shrugged Merida. “At least it’s kelly green; that’s me favourite.”

“It looks lovely on you.” Seraphina perched on a branch at Merida’s level. “Now, I have a very serious matter to discuss with you. Have you met with any other fairies recently?”

“Actually, I have,” confirmed Merida. “Yesterday, I had a fairy, kinda like you, visit. She needed water from the Fire Falls to make a special tea.”

“She did?” Seraphina mulled on the information. “What else did she tell you?”

“Well, she called herself Pandora,” explained Merida. “She said the tea was a cure for some kind of pox going around.”

“I see.” Seraphina put a hand to her chin. “I’ve been trying to find the ingredients for that tea as well, and every time I tried to come here, I was knocked off course. I’ve been beginning to think it was intentional.”

“Intentional?” Merida asked. “If you’re both puttin’ the cure together, why would she try to stop you?”

“I know Pandora,” said Seraphina grimly. “She always wants to be better than everyone else. I suspect she’s trying to take all the credit for stopping the Purple Spot Pox from spreading.”

Merida shook her head. “Me mum always said that pride is a killer. I guess this is what she meant.”

Seraphina nodded. “Thank you for your help. Give my regards to your mother.” She opened up a portal to return to the Pretty Cure Health Clinic.

In the clinic, Seraphina arrived in the lobby, where Saaya and Chiyu were discussing the best way to deal with the heat in the building from the hot summer sun. “Oh, Seraphina, you’re back!” Saaya jumped.

“Indeed, and I’ve brought the water from the Fire Falls.” Seraphina presented the bottle.

“Fantastic!’ Chiyu chirped. “I’ll take it and store it with the lemons.”

Once Chiyu had gone, Seraphina turned to talk to Saaya. “I’ve discovered a roadblock with my quest. There’s another fairy searching for tea ingredients, and she seems determined to stop me from getting them.”

“Really?” Saaya asked. “But why?”

“Merida and I both suspect pride.” Seraphina answered. “Pandora, a fairy I was trained with…she’s always been so obsessed with glory. She must have been the one who knocked me off my course yesterday.”

“You can’t let it distract you,” insisted Saaya. “Remember your promise to Kazu-kun. He’s counting on you. We all are.”

“I know that.” Seraphina’s face turned serious. “I swore that I would find the tea ingredients and help the people of this clinic, and if I fail that mission, then may Queen Gwendolyn clip my wings until they are nothing but bone.”

“Excuse me.” A new voice attracted Seraphina and Saaya’s attention. “I was sent for one Sora Harewataru.”

The two turned around to see Captain Shalala standing before them. “Oh! Of course! Right this way!” Saaya jumped into Customer Service Mode and took Captain Shalala to the patients’ ward.

In her room, Sora was watching out the window at the blue sky. Having taken the coughing variant of Purple Spot Pox, she had to have a breathing mask put on her to sleep. She didn’t regret for a second going out to fight that Ranborg, but still felt rather sorry for herself, having been weakened from the battle. Captain Shalala opened the door and slowly approached her. “So, the messages were true.”

“Captain Shalala!” Sora fumbled off the mask and pulled the blanket closer to herself. “Please, you shouldn’t have to see me like this. It’s too embarrassing.”

“Like what?” Captain Shalala asked, with a serene smile. “What I see is a hero willing to sacrifice her own health to save the health of others. Why would that be embarrassing?”

Sora blushed as Captain Shalala put a hand to her cheek. “I’m very proud of you. Your efforts successfully kept your friends from being harmed by that Ranborg. That is the work of a true hero.”

“Aww…” Saaya and Seraphina cooed over the interaction.

However, the joy didn’t last long, as Seraphina began to receive a distress call. “Mayday, mayday! We need backup!”

Seraphina opened a portal to look inside. “Oh no… I need to go.” And off she went.

Chapter 7: Distress Call

Chapter Text

Seraphina flew through the rainbow void to find a group of worker fairies bustling around anxiously. One of them, a portly worker named Alistair, approached Seraphina. “Oh, thank goodness you’re here! We’ve had an unruly portal open, and the people of the two worlds are now lost within each other’s realms! We need you to rescue them and bring them back home!”

“Not to worry.” Seraphina rolled up her sleeves. Does Seraphina have sleeves? That is for you to decide. “I’ll have them back in no time.” And she leapt into the first portal.

Inside, she found a big blue house, sitting in the middle of a pine tree woods. Outside, there was a small gaggle of puppet characters, including a tiny mouse who was in the middle of a great big panic. “Mayday! Mayday! We have a problem over here!”

"Calm down, Tutter!" A teddy bear tried to help the mouse. "We have to work together!"

"What's going on here?" Seraphina asked.

“It Seraphina!” Seraphina recognized the high-pitched cry of Treelo; she had been dropped at the Big Blue House!

Everyone else looked up at her. "Oh, hello," said a woman in a pink sweater. "We're in quite a situation here; some sort of portal picked us up and dropped us here, far away from the daycare."

"Us?" Seraphina looked around, and began to recognize the crowd around her. Why, these were all Muppets needing her help!

"Bear and Treesa gone!" Treelo yelped. "Into the portal!"

"I did a head count," added Gonzo, "and there are only four of us here! The rest were left behind at the daycare!"

Seraphina looked between the two groups. "This is indeed very strange." She conjured up her magic. "But I'm sure I can handle this." She put a hand out. “You all stay in the house until the portals are safe to use. Otherwise, who knows where you could end up?”

In the other realm, Bear and Theresa had landed, and were surrounded by the remaining Muppet Babies. “Huh?” Bear looked up. “What was that all about?”

“Mees Nanny børksvann, ind vi vönt inte var vi ska hitta benne!” Chef tried to explain.

"Animal lose Miss Nanny! No know where she go!" Animal added.

Bear and Theresa looked at each other. "Did you understand that?"

"I think they're trying to tell us their nanny disappeared," said Theresa; she always understood, even if the sentences were very broken.

"That's exactly what they're trying to say!" Fozzie explained. "Miss Nanny is missing!"

"We're a bit missing ourselves." Bear straightened his back. "But we can help you find your nanny."

"Yeah, but how?" Summer asked. "She got sucked into that big rainbow portal thing, just like you did."

"Oh yeah, that's right." Bear and Theresa shared a look. "What can we do?"

"That portal is gone now," said Bear. "We'll have to wait until it opens again."

"In the meantime, I guess these kids are our responsibility." Theresa knelt down to talk to them properly. "What are your names?"

"Ooh! I'm Summer," chirped Summer, "and these are Fozzie, Animal, and the Chefs!"

"Chefs? As in plural?" Bear and Theresa finally noticed the little blonde girl hiding behind the ginger Chef. "Oh. Uh, do they have names that aren't 'Chef'?"

"Oh, yeah!" Fozzie came to explain. "This is Tom, and she's Clara. We just call them Chef because they're really good at cooking."

"Clara isht väldigt shysie-wysie." Chef Tom encouraged his sister to speak up. "Børksätt, Clara, jøørst bara huloo."

Chef Clara twiddled her fingers. "Bonjour."

"And bonjour to you." Bear patted her head. "I guess we'll be watching you until the portal opens."

"Animal catch the portal!" Animal hopped up.

As soon as he said it, the portal opened again, and out came Seraphina. “Oh, thank heavens, exactly where I expected,” she said upon finding Bear and Theresa at the daycare. “I’m here to bring you back to your proper world.”

“I’m still not sure how we got here,” said Theresa softly.

“Rogue portals,” explained Seraphina. “Us fairies are trying our best to get them under control, but it’s going to be a bit difficult.” She turned back to the portal she had just opened. “Alright; let’s get you under control.” She focused her magic, and surrounded the portal with energy; energy that would stop them from drawing in the unwary, those who weren’t meant to enter.

“It’s working!” Bear exclaimed. “I can see the portal changing!” Indeed, the portal’s jittery rim was stabilizing.

“I…can’t…do it…alone!” Seraphina strained, struggling to keep the portal under control.

“We have to help her!” Bear held onto Seraphina’s waist, Theresa held onto Bear’s back, Summer and the Chefs held onto Theresa’s legs, and Animal and Fozzie held onto Chef and Summer’s back. All of them, giving her stability, let Seraphina carry on, getting the portal to behave like one should.

Eventually, the portal began to glow a bright white. Everyone’s sight was blinded for a moment, and when they could see again, the portal and Seraphina were both gone, and everyone was back in the universe where they belonged. “Did you see that?!” Fozzie yelped. “That was crazy!”

“Mees Nanny!” Chef Tom waved his arms around. “Vi träffade en björn och en leedy, och det børk en portal!”

Bear and Theresa were dropped back at the Big Blue House in one piece, where all the kids were still freaking out. “BEAR!” Tutter shrieked. “Did you see all that?! The portal, the strangers?!”

“Treesa back!” Treelo monkeyed up onto his big friend’s shoulders.

“We met some nouveaux amis!” Sandrine explained. “But zen zey all disappeared into ze portal!”

Bear and Theresa looked at each other, still unsure if they understood at all what had just happened. They both shook their heads, and knelt down to tend to the kids.

In the Pretty Cure Health Clinic, the sound of the distress call had since died away, and instead, Karen could hear a motorcycle approaching the centre. She came outside, and found Madoka Akimoto pulling in with a box attached to the back of her bike. “Komachi told me you were running out of disposable gloves and face masks,” she said, “so I ran out and picked some up for you.”

“Oh, that’s so nice of you,” said Karen, taking the boxes.

“Don’t mention it.” Madoka smiled. “I gotta go now; I’m meeting some friends at the cafe.” She got back onto her motorcycle and off she went.

Inside, Karen was storing the boxes of gloves and masks away when she heard a cry coming from the toddlers’ unit. She entered the room and plucked Kazuma up out of his bed. “I know, sweetpea,” she soothed. “I’m sure Seraphina will be back soon with everything she needs to make that tea that will help you feel better.”

The trouble was…where was Seraphina?

Chapter 8: A Drop of Stardew

Chapter Text

Seraphina found herself waking up in the middle of a patch of grass. Around her, there were tall trees and a little farmland where turnips and parsnips were growing. She got up and fluttered across a path, where she found a village with little houses and a river with a bridge.

The sun was beginning to set, so most people were inside for dinner. Seraphina floated around, hoping that somewhere, there would be someone who could help her. By the seaside, she saw a man with dark brown hair and a bushy beard, standing on the dock. Hoping he was trustworthy, she shyly approached him. “Excuse me, sir?”

The man turned, and was shocked to see Seraphina there. “Are my eyes playin’ tricks on me?”

“No, sir.” Seraphina shook her head. “I’m for real, and I’m tired of telling my story to everyone these past two days.”

“Hold yer horses, there, miss.” The man held up his hands. “What’s going on here?”

Seraphina swore she felt a piece of her soul die as she began to explain the story yet again. “A monster known as the Purple Spot Parasite is sweeping through universes, infecting others with its pox. I have to gather ingredients for the cure. I need a pinch of sugar, desperately.”

"I'm afraid I can't get you any sugar, miss," said the man. "But if you're talkin' about purple spots, maybe you can help a neighbour of mine."

Seraphina’s heart went cold. "You say a neighbour's developed Purple Spot Pox?"

"Whatever it is, it's got purple spots." The man turned towards a cabin on the beach, near where the forest began. "Elliott, the young fella who lives in that there cabin…yesterday, he fainted near the shore. Would've drowned if I wasn’t there to pick him up. When Harvey got here to look at him, he had gone spotty all over."

"That's the one," mused Seraphina. "Does he have any other symptoms?"

"Well," continued the man, "last night I tried to give him some cod liver oil to help him sleep, but he couldn't hold anything down. Anything we tried to get into him came right back." He itched his beard. "Normally, I wouldn't think too much of it, but those spots tell me this is no ordinary bellyache."

The nausea variant. Seraphina shook the man's hand. "Thank you, sir. I promise, I can help your neighbour."

"Don't mention it." The man smiled. "And call me Willy."

Seraphina fluttered off towards the cabin. Inside, she found this Elliott character curled up in bed, looking pale and miserable, with his long hair tangled into a huge mess. And of course, those distinct purple spots covering his face. She placed a hand on his forehead; he felt hot to the touch. "Elliott…can you hear me?"

Elliott mumbled and pried his tired eyes open. Seeing the guardian angel standing over him, his eyes widened, and he began to tremble. "No…no, please, it's not my time."

"Don't worry, young one," soothed Seraphina. "I'm here to help you."

"I don't even know your name!" Elliott bunched him back into the bed, closer to the wall. "Please, not now. I'm not ready to die."

Seraphina offered a gentle embrace. "I'm not one of heaven’s guardians, my dear. I'm a fairy. I have come to help you fight off your case of Purple Spot Pox."

"I don't trust you!" Weak as he was, Elliott put his hands up to shield himself. "Don't touch me!"

Seeing his eyes glisten with frightful tears, Seraphina figured she needed a different tactic to get Elliott to cooperate. "Very well. I won't touch you. But I insist on getting you medical attention."

She cautiously opened a portal, and allowed the two of them to enter. Now, they found themselves in the lobby of the Pretty Cure Health Clinic, where Nodoka just so happened to be passing by. "Oh!" She jumped. "Seraphina! It's you!"

"Indeed," said Seraphina. "I've found another pox victim who needs help."

“Oh, you poor thing,” said Nodoka softly, putting a hand on Elliott’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s get you to bed.”

Elliott quietly followed Nodoka and allowed her to put him in a bed and give him a check-up. “I…I don’t understand. You aren’t here to lead me into the afterlife?”

“Of course not.” Seraphina said gently. “I meant it when I said I was here to help you. My name is Seraphina, and here in this clinic, you are safe and will be cared for.”

“I…I see.” Elliott collected himself. “Then please, accept my most sincere apologies for my initial lack of trust in you. My name is Elliott von Gier. I wish we could have met under more pleasant circumstances.”

“We’re going to be keeping you here until the cure for the pox can be made, Mr. von Gier,” said Nodoka, looking over her notes.

Seraphina perched on the side table. “I need to return to a meditative state. My next jump will bring additional doctors to this clinic; you will need all the help you can get.”

"Thank you," said Nodoka gratefully. "We really appreciate it."

"Nodoka?" Hikari stood in the doorway, balancing Chiho on her hip. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"No, no, that's fine, Hikari," insisted Nodoka. "Just keep watching Chiho until Mari-chan comes back."

"Kawi-chan my bes' fwend!" Chiho squeaked.

Once she was certain everything was calm and taken care of, Seraphina assumed a lotus sitting position and entered a state of concentration, hoping that these extra efforts would bring her the finest doctors in the multiverse.

Chapter 9: Is There a Doctor In the House?

Chapter Text

In the morning, a twinkling light began to travel through universes, searching for medical experts who could help the Pretty Cure Health Clinic deal with the influx of pox patients. The first twinkle dove into the sea, finding its way into an undersea base, hosting various critters of all walks of life. A herd of Vegimals, as well as their favourite playmate, a fox kit named Keiji, were the first to find it. Keiji squeaked when he saw the twinkle, and reached up to try and swat at it.

“Keiji? What are you doing up here?” Keiji’s mother Kitsune entered the garden pod, and witnessed the twinkle for herself. The twinkle circled around her head for a moment, then flew down into the Octo-Chute. Curious, Kitsune picked up her baby and followed it as it traveled through the Octopod.

Eventually, the twinkle found its way into the Octopod’s medical bay. “Huh? What is that?” Peso jumped when he saw the twinkle. He cautiously put out a flipper and let the twinkle rest in his hands. The twinkle began to relay a message.

If you can hear this, it means you are needed at the Pretty Cure Health Clinic. There has been a serious outbreak of Purple Spot Pox, and our doctors cannot keep it under control alone. Please, we need your help more than you can imagine.

“Oh, my,” mused Kitsune. “That sounded very serious.”

“Indeed it did.” Peso gently cupped the twinkle. “I need to discuss this with the captain.”

A second twinkle hovered in between the mountains of Colombia, before landing in a house at the top of a hill, looking over a peaceful village. It flickered a bit, before finding its way into the house’s kitchen, where a woman with a warm gaze and a gentle smile was washing and shucking corn to cook up for dinner that night.

“Tía?” A little boy peered into the kitchen. “What’s that light?”

“Huh?” The woman looked up from her work, and noticed the twinkle. “Oh. Hello…”

“Let me try and talk to it!” The little boy came in and pulled himself up onto the counter. “Hi, who are you?”

The light glowed, and relayed its message to the child. “Tía Julieta…the light needs you.”

“What do you mean, Antonio?” Julieta asked, getting concerned.

“The light is telling me that they need a doctor. There’s a pox they need to get rid of and they need help.” Antonio answered innocently.

Julieta reached out a hand to the twinkle, and began to hear Seraphina’s message ringing in her ears. “Oh my heavens…” She was quite shocked. “They need help…but I can’t leave the family. I don’t know how long they need me for.”

“Well, we have Dr. Romano around,” mused Antonio. “Besides, I don’t think anything really bad will happen when you’re gone.”

“I certainly hope not.” Julieta straightened her back. “But being away from home for a long time…that frightens me.”

In the heart of Blossom Heights, a little pink Yo-Kai was standing on the roof of a house, giving check-ups to other ghostly critters. “Wow, Sandmeh, you have such a strong heartbeat,” she praised.

“Aw, it’s really nothing, Tongus,” insisted Sandmeh. “I just try to stay healthy.”

“What about me, youngster?” Elder Bloom asked. “How’s the old ticker sounding?”

Nurse Tongus was going to check Elder Bloom’s heartbeat when the third little twinkle began to shine over top of her head. She looked up and cocked her head. “Huh?”

“Oh, my? What is that?” Rattelle asked, curious.

Nurse Tongus reached up to touch the light, and received Seraphina’s message. She squeaked when it was over. “I have to help them!” She scrambled into the room nearby, where her human partner and his best friend were inside watching silly videos on Yo-Tube. “Bear! Eddie! I have to go on a mission!”

“Huh?” The boys looked up. “What are you talking about?”

Tongus allowed the twinkle into the room to relay its message to the boys. “That’s crazy,” mused Eddie. “Where did it even come from?”

“I don’t know,” said Tongus, “but I need to go there as soon as possible!” She climbed up onto the bed and put her head down on her partner’s shoulder. “Are you sure you’ll be okay without me for a little bit?”

The boys looked at each other, then Eddie patted Tongus’s head. “I’m sure I’ll survive.”

“Oh, you’re such a brave kid!” Tongus squeaked. “Alright, I need to go! I’ll see you when I come back!”

After many concerns about time and location, the three chosen medics arrived at the Pretty Cure Health Clinic through a portal. Nodoka jumped when she saw them suddenly appear in the lobby. “Oh! You must be the doctors that Seraphina sent for!”

“Yes, but what on Earth is Purple Spot Pox?” Julieta asked. “You never elaborated.”

“It’s an illness spread by a parasite, known for the purple spots. It’s been spreading through universes, but we’ve become the epicenter of care for the victims.” Nodoka explained. “But we can’t do it alone. That’s why we need you. I hope we’re not butting into your lives too much…”

“Of course not,” insisted Peso. “I’m a medic. I’m meant to help anyone who is hurt or sick, no matter what. And that includes your patients.”

“Yeah, but before we get to work, what do we do about that thing?” Nurse Tongus pointed up at the portal, which was still open.

“Seraphina must have forgotten to close it before she left,” mused Nodoka. “I hope it won’t cause us any problems.”

As soon as she said it, the portal roared, glowed red, and dumped two fluffy white critters into the clinic before disappearing. “See?! I told you! These portals are dangerous!” The taller one shouted.

“Sybil?” Peso came over to help them up. "What are you doing here?"

"Moonie Sybil and I were just sitting in the kitchen, eating dinner, when we were suddenly picked up and dropped here." The younger floof explained.

"At least we're somewhere safe. We could have been dropped anywhere." Mx. Small looked between the two. "Oh, have you met my niece?"

"Come on, everyone," said Karen as she passed by, "we've got work to do. Those patients need us."  Together, the group of doctors spread out throughout the clinic to help out the patients in need.
