Chapter Text
If you search far enough under the golden clouds of the Daylight Prairie, then follow the candles lit along the stone walls, you’ll find a humble cave that belongs to a homebody named Sigma.
As ‘homebody’ suggests, they rarely leave their cave. The only time they does leave is when they need to see the sun and revive their light, which makes him hiss and cry like a vampire. They try their best to stray close to their cave—lucky for him, no one really ever comes to the area in Isle of Dawn that they live in.
Very tired and very weak, they were. But it was safer in the cave than outside, where people could use them and hurt them and…
The sun is very bright today. Well, everything is very bright when the only thing producing light is a dimly lit candle. A familiar longing for entertainment rose in Sigma’s chest…
They pushed it down and walked out to a cluster of red candles. Hovering their own candle over it they closed their eyes and let the brightened hue cover their wings.
“HELLO!”
Sigma scrambled backwards with a terrified face. They had not spoken to another Sky Kid—no, they hadn’t spoken period. Not in years time. “E-eh… I…”
The person smiled mischievously. “You look so nervous! Ah, I have that affect on people. I’m just so pretty!”
Sigma blinked, unimpressed. This person was awfully vain.
“Aw, don’t look at me like that. Let’s become friends! My name is Dazai.”
Sigma scooted away slowly before Dazai grabbed their hand and grinned. “C’mon! Don’t you wanna jump off the cliff together?”
“I will not partake in such self destructive behavi—AHHHH!”
The two jumped off the cliff, wings catching the wind and following the currents between the clouds. Sigma shut their eyes tightly and entangled themselves into Dazai’s arms. Irritatingly enough, they could not block out his gleeful laughter. How taunting.
“New friend—no wait, I’ll call you Blink—open your eyes!”
“One—that’s a stupid nickname—and two—hell no! Are you suicidal?”
“Yep!”
“WHAT—?!”
Sigma’s eyes blinked open in surprise, but then wandered across the scenery around him. Dazai was soaring and Sigma was on top of him, tightly clinging on.
The wind on their skin suddenly became delightful as the peaceful beauty of the world sank in. The sun no longer made them wince and the air in their lungs was not as stale as that in the cave. Sigma reluctantly raised a hand upwards just to touch the golden clouds they had only heard about in books. Soft and fluffy…
Suddenly, the clouds disappeared from Sigma’s grip and they felt more hit their head like a rock, thick and heavy. They were descending quickly, and Dazai looked weak and in a daze. Sort of like how Sigma felt… whenever they lost their light! Dazai was losing his light!
Sigma grabbed onto Dazai’s waist and held tightly as they came closer and closer to ground as the seconds went by.
Lost, they didn’t know what to do. Had it turned out the one time they went outside, instead of someone hurting them, they had hurt another.
Already preparing for the end, they grieved, wrapping their arms tightly around Dazai, their useless wings dimming from sadness.
Dazai’s eyes opened, looking tired and worried. Sigma stared back, and a silent sorry was exchanged. Then Sigma’s stare become one of confusion when a weak grin appeared on Dazai’s face. He suddenly twisted over to a large flying animals—the ones that had been with them this entire ordeal—and rested on their backs.
After all of this, they were dropped off on the ground. Sigma unfortunately had quite a fit over all of it and lashed around in confusion.
“A little help?” Dazai smiled, holding out his candle. Right, his light was low!
Sigma nodded. They walked up to him and held their hands out—candle to candle they were. Dazai’s face was no longer vague and lost but defined once more. Foreheads touching they stayed their for a second.
“Well—I suppose that was a bit of an adventure! We should—!”
“Can we stay right here?” Sigma hugged him. “Just a bit longer.”
Dazai seemed to stiffen up at the hug, but then glowed (literally). “Okay… but not too long. I’m not the sentimental type, y’know?”
Chapter 2: Oblige
Notes:
By the way, whenever Sigma or Dazai are reffered to as “child” it’s more like calling them a child of the light or a generally young adult—not an actual teen or kid.
Sorry for the short chapter but it’s part one!!!
Chapter Text
They slip their hand onto his jaw and tilt his head till he’s facing them. The smug smile he once held was replaced with a look of curiosity, confirmation that he didn’t want Sigma to stop. Their free hand linked with Dazai’s as they uncomfortably shifted forward in the warm sand. This was different, Sigma could tell. It wasn’t quite like any of the love stories they had read and romanticized in the books they read when they didn’t leave the cave—yet the emotions they felt in this moment help the same weight, dare they be even heavier than any romance in any classic fiction.
This tale was not as old as time, in fact it was incredibly new, Sigma’s fascination with Dazai’s hold, his demeanor, the way he casually walked into Sigma’s life, challenging every thought of distrust that they held.
And.. they kept having that dream of kissing the one who flew them through the clouds, even though it’s been three days time since they’ve seen him.
The child never thought they would leave their cave routinely.
But there they were, everyday, waiting for the young person to arrive. Every once and a while Sigma would puff out their wings and attempt to fly. Everyday they jump higher, and higher, and just barely reach the clouds before dropping back down in fear.
They missed Dazai ever so much.
“Please come back, soon, I ask.” They spoken a silent prayer, to no one in particular.
