Wandering The Depths of Nowhere

Summary:

After the events of KoTM, Godzilla has an heir.

This changes things.

Notes:

Hello! Before I get started I would like to say that this is an AU + a bunch of headcanons that I have for Godzilla and just the Monsterverse in general.

The main headcanons in this fic is that the Gojia species is gender-neutral, can asexualy reproduce, and primarily feed on radiation.

Godzilla, while being gender-neutral, uses he/him pronouns.

(Also when Godzilla talks about his strength he's talking about his radiation)

Chapter Text

He roamed his territory as he listened. He listened to the songs of the depths, the tide, the sea. There were new songs, ones from his newly awakened subjects that he welcomed into his territory.

There was still a song that faintly pulsed through the depths, one that is only heard by him now. The song of the False King. The intruder had risen and threatened his rule. With help from his Queen and the humans that fed him strength, he disposed of the False King and reclaimed his power.

He now patrolled his territory to subdue any rebelling subjects and to guarantee that the False Kings song had concluded.

His tail swung lazily behind him as he propelled himself forward into the depths, closer to its song of time. He felt it in his bones when he got closer to his destination.

This place wasn't that old to him, but to the march of time it was. He remembered when humans lived down here, alongside him and his subjects. When they would worship and sing their songs of praise to him. He was there for everything, its rise, its fall and its end. Even after its end he hoped there was something still here for him.

Alas it was unrecognizable to him.

The buildings that once stood proud, that withstood the song of time, were reduced to rubble in its end.

He bellowed unhappily as he picked through the wreckage, trying to find anything salvageable. He hissed in annoyance as he flared up his spines. Nothing that the king could find was in one piece as the rubble fell through his claws.

As he finished his search through the wreckage, he reluctantly left.

As he swam, grief stirred within him. Not only for the home he lost but for the casualties. The lives that were taken by him, by the False King, by Rodan, even by those parasites from not that long ago. While humans were not perfect in any way, as they tried to go against him, he knew there were many who deserved life.

The human who he wished could have lived, was the one who sacrificed himself to give him strength. His sacrifice was one that continued the many songs of life that he is grateful for, but he wished that his song could have continued. As he understood. He understood the titans more than the people of today. He remembered what the past was like. He remembered what was forgotten.

However there were lives he was thankful were saved. The adolescent human girl that had gone up against the False King by herself and lived to tell the tale. The ones aboard the human ship when he arose once again. His fellow titans, his subjects.

A pang of guilt was felt by the king as he thought about his subjects. They were forcibly awakened and ordered to destroy the earth, their home, by the False King. Many of the titans were fond of the humans too. After not seeing them for so long, they were saddened by what they were forced to do.

He growled in displeasure as his thoughts drifted back to the False King.

How dare that intruder come into his territory, try to usurp him, lay claim to his land, to his subjects.

He let out a huff as he tried to distract himself from the past.

As he continued to swim he pondered about the future.

His queen was still regrowing and would be for quite some time. Most of the troublesome titans had gone back to sleep, or he had dealt with. Humans were, for the most part, have left him alone.

He did have a massive amount of strength left, even after defeating the intruder.

He pondered about that for a bit.

He could use it in a few ways but there was one that stuck out to him the most. He could, as the parasites had been disposed of along with the False King, and there were no presebale threats in the immediate future. He also had been getting more and more lonely as time kept going.

And really what is a king without an heir?

Notes:

Hello again! I appreciate that you are willing to read this story (as it is my first fic) but if you have any questions feel free to comment and i will try to respond as fast as possible!

For those who want to know about the whole reproduction thing here you go. So when a Gojia wants to have an offspring, they will store up radiation for years (normally, as this is not the case with Godzilla because he is given a huge amount of radiation in such a short time), until they have enough to make an egg with a massive amount of radiation taken from the parent to the egg (And yes the parent would have to lay the egg). The egg would still have to be incubated and will hatch like a normal egg. Once hatched, the baby will feed off the radiation that just naturally emits from the parent for years until they are strong enough to make the journey down to the Hollow Earth, with the parent, to feed on radiation directly from there.

Chapter 2: seek me out

Notes:

Sooo its been awhile huh.... But seriously sorry about that, i'v recently started school and have been coming in and out of this hyperfixation for awhile and hadnt had the motivation to keep on writing this until recently. There definitely is a chance that in the future that I may not update for months again, but if I ever abandon this fic I will update you guys. But for now this fic is not abandoned and I do plan to finish it.

Chapter Text

It was morning as the king laid basking in the sun, lazy waves crashing into him. He watched the sun rise from beyond the sea. The warmth felt pleasant on his scales. The king let out a huff and lowered his head onto the sand. He was delighted that he found this island uninhabited and far from meddling humans. So far from the screeching of machines and the scent of oils they leave behind. The songs and chips of life were vibrant and plentiful here because of it. There was even a tunnel close by that led to the depths where he could feed, and a cave on the island where he could be hidden.

Even though he is a long way from human civilization some of their flying machines would pass by, or even scour the island. It agitated him, but he let them be as no humans had come yet, and their machines hadn't gotten too close. He presumed that the humans behind this were the same ones with the metal building underwater, and the same ones that helped him defeat the False King. He suspects that they have some way to track him, as they always seem to know where the king is when they want him.

Despite the fact that their machines have been to the island. The humans are clueless as to why he has chosen to live here, because he ensures they don't.

The king let his thoughts slip away as he listened to the songs of life around him. He began to drift into a light slumber, when the king felt a light pressure on the tip of his snout. He reluctantly opened his eyes, and raised his head up to peer down at what was making the small pressure.

His pup looked back up at him with wide eyes.

A small purr sounded from the kings throat, as his pup chipped back at him. He watched as his pup looked out into the sea, looked back at him then whined and lightly slapped their tail against the sand. The king let out a huff in response, not wanting to take his pup out to sea as he was enjoying the sun. He lowered his head back onto the sand.

His pup, displeased, let out a growl, and tried to do an intimidation display. However his pup doesn't have much strength, as they've never been to the depths, so his pups spines faintly glow a light blue. The king let out a light bellow and lit up his spines in response, not backing down from his decision.

His pup huffs in defeat and walks closer to the water, his pup lowered their head and waged their tail in the water. The king purred in approval, but growled to warn his pup not to swim too far out. His pup coos in excitement and immediately submerged themself in the ocean.

Until sundown the king stayed sprawled out in the sun, while his pup swam around in the ocean near him. Just as the sun was starting to dip under the horizon, he heard a song. A song that was meant to be gone, supposed to be gone. The song pulsed all throughout the oceans and depths, calling for him, challenging the king once again. The False Kings song.

His pup had come closer to the shore, standing so their head poked out of the water. His pup whined questioningly at what was making the noise. His pup had heard the song they were never supposed to hear, the song he never wanted his pup to hear.

He cooed comfortingly to his pup as he scooped them into his mouth and stood up to take his pup to their cave. He rushed over to their cave, and gently set his pup down onto the cold stone floor. His pup whined in worry, but the king purred reassuringly as he stood up to his full height. He growled as he looked back to the entrance, warning his pup not to come out for anyone but him. His pup whined and curled in on their self. He softly cooed in response, trying to comfort his pup, but he needed to deal with the False King sooner rather than later. He stood up, left his cave and dived deep within the depths.

When he resurfaced, he was headed toward a human civilization. This human civilization reeked of oil and had so many screeching machines. The king flared up his spines in an intimidation display, then let out a warning roar to the False King that challenged him.

The king surfaced in a human-made river. He went through any and all human structures that were in his way, dealing with the False King was a more pressing issue. As the king got closer to the song, he began to get hit by the human flying machines. He let out a roar of frustration as they continued to distract him.

The king, fed up with these humans, began to charge his atomic breath and hit the human flying machines. As he continued his trek toward the False King’s song, more human flying machines came, which annoyed him. He counited to take out the flying machines until he came to a building. the king was right on top of the False Kings song. He put as much strength as he could into his atomic breath as he could. It easily went right through the building. There was no False King, even though the song came from here.

He slammed his tail in the rubble of human buildings and roared in anger. These humans were trying to usurp him. He is the king, and this was something that should never be done by these insignificant humans in his territory. These humans should know better than to meddle with the song of the False King.

He charged up his atomic breath once again and destroyed any structure around the False Kings song. This was a warning for these humans, warning them that they should know their role in his territory.

Once satisfied the king resubmerged into the depths and began his journey home.

Notes:

Also sorry if there are any mistakes, this is not beta read and I only lightly looked over this for errors

I think that Godzillas view of humans is complicated to say the least. In the past he was worshiped, but when he came back he was attacked by the same humans that would worship him. Then when facing Ghidorah, humans had helped him. So I would think that at this point he feels guilty when he kills innocent people, but when humans try to attack him he will fight back and kill with minimal guilt. Thats why in the last chapter he felt guilty by the lives he took on accident when fighting Ghidorah but here he also kills people with little guilt.

Chapter 3: want to be wild

Notes:

Hello!!!!! So originally this fic was only going to be from godzillas pov, but I think adding in Maddie pov and giving us a perspective of what the humans are up to will clear up some plot details sooo yea here you go a Maddie chapter. There will prob be some in the future as i enjoying writing the dialog in this chapter. Also this chapter is a critique of GvK, because i personally think that Mark and honestly Monarch as a whole should have been more important to the plot.

Chapter Text

Madison Russell was irritated as she made her way toward the Monarch Relief Camp. She was irritated because nothing added up, the Titan Truth Podcast just confirmed her suspensions.

It was all just too convenient. Why would Godzilla only attack one Apex facility then leave? Especially while flashing his intimidation display, one she only saw when Monster Zero was around. Why did Walter Simmons seem so calm about this, and how did Apes Cybernetics already have a plan to deal with Godzilla? Everything just seemed too convenient, like someone had set the whole thing up.

When she brought this up to her dad, Mark Russell, at first he dismissed her, he was more focused on helping the people at the relief camp, but as Madison kept talking and bringing up more points she could tell her dad was starting to ponder what she was saying too.

Even after all this her dad still dismissed her, “Madison we can talk about this later, there are more pressing issues at the moment.”

“No! We are talking about this now.”

“Madison, stop it.” Her dad warned, but Madison didn’t back down.

“I am just trying to help! I want to help.”

“I don't want you to help at all! I want you to be safe and far from danger.” He sighed, “The fragile peace we had with the titans is shattering, people are scared and the US government is going to do something if we don't try to bring that peace back. The last thing I want to be worrying about is your safety.”

Now, Madison knew that her dads reasoning was good, but she still had a point to get across, “Godzilla saved us ! Saved humanity ! He has never shown ill intent toward humans, why now is he doing this when he's had hundreds of chances to?”

Her dad put his head in his hands, “Honey, I don't know. While I think you're onto something, people need some sort of answer to what happened. Whether it is right or wrong they need answers or we will have even more problems on our hands.”

“So, we're not doing anything at all? Not trying to look at Godzilla's bioacoustics, Not trying to see if there have been any irregularities with his territorial paths, or even trying to see if anything has happened at that island he inhabits?”

“Madison we will look at that more thoroughly later, but at the moment I have Ilene Chen, Rick Stanton and Sam Coleman saving and collecting data for when there is time to analyze it.”

Annoyance flared within Madison, “That should be the highest priority!”

“I know honey, I know.”

Madison let out an exasperated sigh, “I’ll… see you at home, dad.”

As Madison walked away she could feel her dads gaze linger on her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Mark Russell watched her daughter run off, he sighed. There was just so much happening in such a short time and it was overwhelming him. Although thinking back on what Madison said, everything didn't make sense. If taken at face value, it appears as if Godzilla had turned against humanity, but that just doesn't make sense does it. Godzilla has barely even acknowledged humans, and when he does it's because we provoked him first. Anytime he comes out he's hunting and fighting other titans, he would have nothing to gain by doing this.

Even though Mark disliked the Titan, he couldn't ignore when something was wrong.

He reached for his phone, scrolled through his contacts and clicked the ones who he knew would help.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Y’know Mark, going out and blaming random people sounds like a great idea.” Rick Stanton says sarcastically.

“I have to agree with Rick on this one.” Sam Coleman helpfully adds on.

Mark had gotten in contact with Rick Stanton, Sam Coleman and Ilene Chen to thoroughly discuss all that happened and analyzed the data they had gotten. He had requested that they come to his house in Pensacola, Florida so all of them could talk.

“Yea ok, not my brightest idea, but you have to agree all of it is just…” Mark trails off.

“Way too convenient.” Ilene finishes.

They all nod as they look down at the scattered papers on the table they’re seated around.

“Rick, you got the data on his bioacoustics?” Mark questions.

Rick digs through the scattered papers on the table when he pulls out a folder, “Yep right here, straight from the Ark.” He says as he holds it up.

“Can you pull out the data from last night?”

He responds quickly, “Yea, yea already on it.”

Rick pulls out a load of papers of Godzilla's bioacoustics from about 6 hours before the attack to the attack itself. All four of them get to work trying to find any significant irregularities. This draws in for about 20 minutes until they hear creaking from behind them.

“Rick, Ilene, Sam, what are you doing here?” Maddie says coming down the stairs.

Ilene greets her, “Hello Madison, It is good to see you again.”

“Good to see you too.”

Ilene smiles at her, “We are here to discuss with your dad about what's been going on with Gojira.” Ilene says, answering her previous question.

This seems to draw Madison's attention real fast, as she glances at her dad.

“You took my advice?”

“I did, you were right, something is wrong.”

Madison smiles at her dad, a thanks for actually listening to her. He smiles back.

Madison, with a slightly hopeful look on her face, starts to talk again, “So… dad, can-” “No Madison you can't help.”

At her dads response she pouts and turns to go back up stairs when Rick starts to talk, “Oh come on Mark, let the kid help. She practically grew up with Monarch, and she's smart. I'll give her that. She could help us.”

“No absolutely not, I won't be putting her in any danger.” Mark firmly states.

Madison walks closer to the table, “Please dad, I'll stay out of danger if anything happens, I’ll stick close to you and won't leave your sight. I honestly don't want to be in the action, I just want to help.” Madison pleads.

Mark sighs, “I- look I’ll think about it okay? For now though you can help, we've been skimming through Godzilla bioacoustics from last night trying to find any irregularities.”

Maddie lights up with excitement, “Yea! Okay, yea I can do that.” She says, taking a seat at the table.

They all sit quietly looking through the papers for a few more minutes when Madison breaks the silence, “Uh guys? I think I found something,” Everyone looks up toward Madison, “At approximately 21:38 EST Godzilla's heart rate and blood pressure spikes, a lot.”

“Rick, can you pull up our readings from 2014 when Monster Zero first arrived” Marks says.

“Yea gimme a second.” It takes a minute but Rick pulls out the paper and places them on the table.

Ilene takes both the new and old bioacoustics papers, “They are very similar, but it seems as if he was more stressed last night then in 2014.” She says, handing the papers to Mark.

“What? How is that possible? How is he more stressed now than when he was facing Monster Zero? There's not a threat anymore, is there?” Sam inquires.

Mark sighs, “No, you're right, it doesn't make sense. I mean we have seen him go up against other titans, but even then he wasn't all that stressed out about it, not like this.”

There was a deafening silence as no one was quite sure what to say.

Madison perked up as she came to a realization, “This might be far-fetched but hear me out, when have we also heard about titans acting strangely and erratically, unprovoked, for seemingly no reason.”

The color drained from Mark's face, “The Orca .”

“What- What if he was lured there, making it seem like Godzilla had turned his back on humanity, seeking to destroy us. Making everyone despise Godzilla and want to get rid of him.”

“It’s a good theory kid, but who could have the information and resources for  something like that?” Rick rebutled.

“My first guess would be Alan Jonah, but it's too obvious and he doesn't have the resources to even make one. It’s either some third party, someone in Monarch is a double agent or it was Apex Cybernetics.”

There was a long silence as everyone took in what Madison said.

Damn , that was a lot of accusations thrown around, I renounce what I said.” Rick stated.

Mark was honestly drained from everything that had happened today, and he didn't need to worry about double agents on the inside. “Madison! You can't just go around blaming Monarch agents and especially Apex Cybernetics.”

“Why not? It makes sense.”

“It may make sense, but as they are one of the top providers for tech and supplies for Monarch we can't just blame them for something we’re not sure they did.”

“But!- They..” Madison sighs, accepting defeat. “Okay.”

“So, what's the plan?” Sam questions.

“I think we should meet Gojira on his own turf.” Ilene supplies.

“So you're saying we should- what? Barge into his home uninvited? Yea that sounds real nice.” Rick doubtingly says.

Ilene sighs, “Not us Rick, just a drone or something of the sort, to get a look of how he acts on his own, and to see if he has a concerningly irregular behavior than normal.” Ilene points to a map with many Monarch outposts. “We would be stationed here Outpost 254. Otherwise known as the Godzilla monitoring station. The outpost is about five miles off from the coast of the island he has laid claim to. And as I want to figure this out as soon as possible, I say we leave tomorrow morning, stop at Outpost 58 in Brazil for fuel then continue to Outpost 254. Which would take approximately 2 days.”

“Uh- yea that works, anyone have any problems with that?” Sam says, impressed that Ilene had already thought of an entire plan.

Madison holds herself higher, “Yes- Well no, anyway,” She stared directly at her dad. “Can I go?”

Mark was about to answer with a hard no, but Rick cut him off. “Yes you can, and before you say anything Mark this outpost is very safe. Godzilla has never shown any interest with the outpost and barely shows interest when we fly drones over the island. As long as Madison stays at the outpost she’ll be fine.”

Everyone was staring at him, even Madison was kind of shocked he stood up for her.

“What? Kids smart, she’ll be helpful.”

Mark begrudgingly agreed to let Madison go, as she’ll be safe and far from Godzilla and she had been very helpful to their investigation.

As the morning dawned on the next day, the five of them boarded the plane that had got Ilene, Rick and Sam there and headed toward Brazil.
