Chapter 1: -Preface-

Chapter Text

-Preface-

Legends tell of a young boy sent by Arceus Himself, he fell from the sky- a break in space time that reopened to spit him out. After being taken in by the galaxy clan he helped quell the frenzies of the lord pokemon who looked over the lands before a red sky fell upon the land of what is now Sinnoh and he was banished. With the help of the lake spirits and a few close friends he wielded the red chain and captured Dialga, controller of time who had come through the same rift he had. Yet in that process the red chain was destroyed and through the rift came Palkia- Dialga’s counterpart and controller of space, much more unruly and not able to be contained by the destroyed red chain, a primal roar destroyed the temple of Sinnoh, yet he captured it anyways with a pokeball made out of the remains of the red chain. Yet his story was not done, one of those who traveled with him, Volo, was jealous of how Arceus seemed to favor him- and summoned Giratina, lord of the distortion realm to fight him, yet despite having Giratina himself on his side he was still defeated, supposedly by the will of Arceus. He then went on to capture Giratina, alongside many other pokemon heard of only in legends, before moving on to fight Arceus before He allied with him and fought alongside him. Many worshiped him, but there were still people who envied him- and the day came where he was overpowered by them, he was tied and nailed to a cross- to be left for dead, it is said that his pokemons pokeballs where found broken and his body missing, it's never known what happened to him, or the pokemon he fought alongside, it's hard to wrap up a story sometimes, and yet many firmly believe in him to this day, something interesting, and questionable in Diamonds opinion- people used his story to affirm odd biases they had and it was just a story, or it would be if she didn't have something that continues to make her question the validity of his story forever.

Diamond's call with Kukui before she goes to Alola

Chapter Text

The light streamed in through Diamonds windows and forces her eyes shut but it doesn't help, suppose it is time to get up. She sits up and coughs her purple hair out of her mouth and shakes her head “Drii- Drii!” trilled Daisy as she pushes her hair back out of her face “mmgmorning” far too groggy to speak apparently, she walks to the bathroom and looks herself over. she yawns hard enough that tears form in her eyes and she wipes them. Today is her call with the Alola professor so she thought she should look presentable, she pulled out a brush and drags it through her hair, hissing as she hit a tangle- she yanks it through anyways, pulling out a good chunk of hair in the process, continuing to brush her hair anyways. Once she’s done she put her brush down on the counter, the bottom no longer visible though the layers of lavender hair, she takes out her phone to see how much time she would have to style her hair- 40 minutes, she can do her hair in space buns today, not actually having anything to do, splitting the top layer of her hair down the middle and twisting one side into a bun and repeating on the other side and doing a braid to twist around the bun, 10 more minutes till she has to be on the call, she set up the call on her laptop.
A man wearing some questionable glasses and seemingly no shirt joins the call and fixes his camera “Hang on- give me a sec…” he waves to the camera once he fixes it “Good afternoon!” he says- she opens her mouth to correct him and tell him it's morning but then she remembers time zones and stops herself- “Hey.” she says instead
“So the day has finally come that you're moving to Alola!”
“It's still three months from now…” She corrects and he laughs.
“Alola is a region made up of several islands. That could be the reason the region is chock full of nothin’ but rare pokemon, Yeah!” She lets him talk “There’s no shortage of cool pokemon here in Alola either, such mysterious creatures” She looks to where Daisy floats out of her camera sight and nods, mysterious indeed. He lets a canine pokemon she recognizes as rockruff from a pokeball, it was one of the pokemon she was excited to get in the Alola region, his big blue eyes stare at her.
“You find ‘em all over, in the grass, in the caves, in the sky and sea! Here in Alola we love our pokemon, and we depend on them heaps too!” He takes a moment to give his rockruff a scratch on the head before continuing.
“Some of them even battle with ‘em if we call ourselves pokemon trainers!” he says as rockruff leans up into his hand with a playful head-but “Rockruff, can you wait until i’m done talkin’ to play?” Rockruff gives a dejected bark but jumps off the desk anyway.
“All right, I gotta ask you some questions about yourself so I can introduce you to everybody! Should I just use a screencap from our call for your trainer passport?”
“Oh uhm, yeah sure! One moment.” She calls Daisy over into frame before letting him know he’s good to go.
“I see you already have a pokemon of your own! Fantastic! And to clarify your name is Diamond right?”
“Yup, spelt exactly like you would expect.”
“Ten-Four, good buddy! I’ll let everybody out here know you're on your way” ‘everybody’ felt very intimidating but she nodded along anyways.
“Diamond!” He begins as some sort of bird pokemon flys up next to him and Rockruff puts his paws on the professor's shoulders. “Yeah, that's a name that hits you like a thunderbolt out of the sky! Woo!” She chuckles, she really never thought her name was that special, it was just a gem after all but his energy was contagious. “Can’t wait to see you in person then, cousin!” He waves as he ends the call. Diamond closes her laptop and sits for a moment and looks at the magazine depicting the ‘Ather foundation’ for a moment before her mom calls for her.
“Diamond, Come help me with these boxes, would you?” she gets up to help her mom pack up, it may be 3 months away but they still have a lot of stuff.

Summary:

Diamond's first 'day' in Alola

Chapter Text

Diamond lays sprawled out on her new bed, many people here slept during the day due to the heat during the day. It could get up to 120 degrees on a bad day so most activities take place at night where it stays cooler. Her door is nudged open with a creek and meowth scampers up to her.

“MWWEEARR” Her mothers meowth screeches. Jet lag was hitting her hard but she got up anyways, a bit too fast if her dizziness was anything to go by, but she shook it off, grabbing her desk to stable herself, glancing at her fathers old book he passed down to her before walking out of her room hanging on the doorframe for support.

“You were out like a light weren't you? You should be full of energy by now!” Her mom says walking in from off the porch. She gives her mom a deadpan look, she was in fact not ‘full of energy’.
“So Diamond, first day… night- in Alola, are you ready to find all kinds of new pokemon?” Clearly her mother had recovered from the flight better than she had. She nodded anyway. “That's right, I know I am too! It truly is as pretty as I hoped…” She looked off into space, she had always wanted to travel and adventure when Diamond’s dad was alive, so she took the chance to leave Sinnoh after his murder. She snapped back quickly “Surely the pokemon here must be friendly with how many travelers they get here!” Before she could continue the doorbell rang. “Would you get that? I’m sure it's professor Kukui and he’s probably here for you!” Diamond nodded and put her hands on her head and walked towards the door, stopping at the table to steady herself, noting the berries on the table as being meowth's favorite and smiling gently. The moment was interrupted before it truly began by the professor letting himself in. Diamond didn't comment on it in case it was an Alolan thing.

“Hey there Diamond! You gotta be tired after that long trip out here to Alola!” That was an understatement, but she nodded. “Feelin’ any jet lag?”
“Oh yeah. Not fun.”
“Yeah, we sure are a long way from Sinnoh out here in Alola. That's why it's still night time out here!”

Thanks for explaining time zones professor. She thought as her mom walked up behind her.
“Professor Kukui! We just arrived yesterday.”
“Oh hey there Lucy! I just let myself in, just call me Kukui, would you?” He paused to gesture outside “Welcome to Alola!”
“Of course! I still remember seeing you battle our gym leaders back in Sinnoh all those years ago you know!” She paused to look away. “I've been in love with Alolan pokemon ever since and so i finally decided to come here myself.” She left out why they had moved here just now. They decided to keep what happened to Diamond's dad to themselves. They didn't want to be singled out or pitied here like they were before. Thankfully the professor seemed oblivious to her avoidance.

“Ha! I was supposed to be researching Sinnoh pokemon’s moves after all! I thought I knew a thing or two about battling but the gym leaders there showed me I still had a long way to go!” He laughed, “Well Diamond, let's get a move on to the next town over cousin! Time for you to meet the island kahuna and get yourself a pokemon yeah?”
“But… i already have a pokemon” she gestured over to where Daisy lazily drifted her balloon strings in front of meowth to play. Kukui nodded “Of course! Pokemon are our friends here in Alola! But it's tradition for someone taking on the island challenge to get a pokemon from their kahuna yeah! And you can't quite take on the island challenge with one pokemon.” He was right, it wasn't like Daisy was going to be her only pokemon forever, she would always be special of course, being her first pokemon and her odd coloring but she would need to get other pokemon. She nodded. “You better get ready then Diamond! Your bag and Daisy’s pokeball are still in your room i think… and you might want to fix your hair.” her mother said, ending in a chuckle. Diamond fidgeted a little with the messy braid she always slept in before rushing to her room to fix it, she took pride in her hair. When she got to her room she fixed her hair into a braided bun and grabbed her bag. She left behind Daisy’s pokeball, if she was getting a new pokemon today she should let her rest.

“I will be sure to have everything cleaned up and put away when you get back.” her mom told her. They both knew it wasn't true, but Diamond didn't point out her moms habit of procrastination.
“Well, let's get going to Iki town! Time for you to get your first pokemon here in Alola from the kahuna!”
