Work Text:

Headaches.

Headaches were something Enot had to be accustomed to. Their unstable genetic makeup caused a few neurological problems, the most disruptive being chronic migranes.

And this just so happened to be when Enot was going to see their sibling.

Enot clutched their head, fur bristling between their fingers as they opened the door of the dark closet. Immediately, a bright yellow light beamed out at them, almost causing the dark slugcat to double over in pain. Although, through the beams of light, they could make out their sibling. A twisted facsimile of a slugcat, with a face absent, replaced by the sign for max karma, a circle with a cross in it. Enot fought through their migrane, shakily walking into the closet. Martyr immediately turned its "gaze" onto its sibling, and waved a tendril in a friendly manner.

Enot took a deep breath. "Martyr..." they muttered. "...I've missed you." In response, Martyr flew down, wrapping the living slugcat in its tendrils and letting out a garbled purr. Enot chuckled, patting Martyr between the ears. They let out a little sigh. "I'm still..."

"Caught on second karma..." Martyr continued Enot's sentence, as if it knew exactly what its sibling was going to say. "I can sense it from here. Your quest for companionship is ongoing, loving one."

Enot nodded. "I've made progress! I'm- I'm pretty sure Nights likes me back!" Their tail wagged excitedly. Martyr tilted its head thoughfully, tapping a twisted paw against its chin. "The easeful watcher... I am familiar. A fine choice, loving one." A distorted chuckle echoed across the room. "But... I have a word of advice."

At this, Enot tilted their head. "What is it, Marmar?" As Enot said this, Martyr scoffed. "Loving one, I have told you multiple times not to call me that. But, that's besides the point. Let's see here..." Suddenly, Martyr's tendrils began to glow brightly. Enot clutched their head, their migrane flaring up again, holding onto Martyr for support. After an agonizing second (at least for Enot), Martyr spoke up.

"Loving one, you must widen your view in your quest for companionship. Nobody said your heart was destined to just one."

Enot tilted their head. "Wait- Martyr!"

But before they could ask for help, elaboration, anything... the echo disappeared.
