Logan couldn't even begin to describe how much his silly emotions were getting in the way of everything in his life. He was the logical one. He was the intelligent one. He was the Side of Thomas that had the answer to every problem possible. Yet, his stupid feelings just needed to get in the way of things.
It started early one morning when he and Patton were having their usual morning conversation. Logan sat at the dining table, working on his daily crossword (which was an app that Virgil had suggested to him not too long ago) while Patton, ever the father figure that he was, cooked breakfast for everyone else.
Along with his need to help to take care of the others, Patton was also very into things that any 80s-Era dad would be into which included a bunch of 70s and 80s-era music. Logan didn't mind it all that much. He enjoyed a lot of the classic rock and power ballads that Patton played over his small Bluetooth speaker. The playlist in question was one he called "That 70s Playlist" as a reference to a sitcom. Logan was sure that the playlist was just a general playlist for older music (it was a lot more than 70s music).
Logan's favorite part of the morning was listening to Patton sing along to every song that played. Whether it be Queen, ABBA, or AC/DC, Patton always sang along without fail. Logan found it especially humorous when Patton would belt along to the love songs. Those were Patton's favorite, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why that was. The emotional Side would giggle and sing along without a care in the world, never failing to make his logical counterpart smile at the behavior.
"Oooh! Logan, I love this song!" Patton bounced as the song 'Hysteria' by Def Leppard began to play. Logan recognized it as Patton's favorite love song. Something about how beautiful and emotional it was. Logan didn't understand the appeal of such things in music, but it meant that Patton would spend roughly 6 minutes belting along to it, complete with air guitar and goofy dancing. Logan wouldn't give that sight up for anything.
Today was different, though. Today, Patton ran to the dining table and yanked Logan out of his seat. The logical Side gasped in shock, dropping his phone in the process. He was yanked into Patton's arms right as the lyrics began. As per usual, Morality sang right along and did a silly slow dance with Logan to accompany it.
"Out of touch! Out of reach, yeah!" Patton's slightly off-key singing was not quite in time with the actual lyrics because he was giggling too much, but Logan wouldn't change it for the world. Seeing Patton so happy was worth any price. The moral Side had been through hell as of late, and Logan wanted to ease the emotional burden as best he could.
"You could try to get closer to me!" Patton spun Logan around, laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world. Logic couldn't help but laugh a little and crack a smile as well, but it certainly wasn't as loud or boisterous as his emotional counterpart.
"I'm in luck. I'm in deep, yeah!" Patton's giggles only got louder once he saw Logan smiling too. Logan couldn't even focus on that due to other sensations attacking him. His heart was beating a mile a minute, and his breath was picking up at a rapid pace. His face felt flush and hot like he had a fever of some kind. Was he sick? Surely not. Thomas wasn't sick, ergo he couldn't be sick either. Then, why was he feeling so nervous to be this close? It was just Patton.
"Hypnotized, I'm shakin' to my knees!" Well, Just Patton isn't something that Logan would ever use to describe the moral Side. Not by a long shot. Patton wasn't just anything. He was a goofball that messed around too much, sure, but he had a heart of gold with good intentions. He was far more than just Patton. He was everything.
"I gotta know tonight," Maybe it was that realization or the fact that Patton yanked him even closer (it was most likely a combination of both), but Logan just felt this overwhelming surge of emotions swell up in his chest. It wasn't unwelcome, far from it. Logan had never felt something so amazing in his entire life. He couldn't help but laugh once more as Patton spun him around again.
"If you're alone tonight!" Morality's smile not only lit up the room, but it lightened up Logan's life every time he saw it. As terribly sappy and emotional as it sounded, the logical Side couldn't help but think about it. He knew it was true. Seeing the goofball that was Patton Sanders smile and dance around the kitchen every morning truly made Logan's day better. He couldn't describe why or how. There was just no logical conclusion as to why he felt so affectionate toward Patton, he just did. It was strange and illogical, and Logan both loved and hated it at the same time.
"Can't stop this feeling!" Finally, a lyric Logan could agree with. He couldn't stop these feelings for Patton. They came up in some way whenever the two were together. Was there something missing from this equation that Logan was missing? No, no. The equation was simple. Patton plus cheesy 80s music plus silly dancing and singing added up to equal dopamine and serotonin. The hard part was the why of it all.
"Can't stop this fire!"
"Patton-!" Logan's shout was partially laughter as the moral Side dipped him like in a typical slow dance. Then, they were back up, and Patton was spinning Logan around once more.
"Oh, I get hysterical! Hysteria!" Patton grinned like a child as he danced with the logical Side on his arm. God, Logan wouldn't have it any other way. He wouldn't ever trade his time with Patton for anything else. He wouldn't give these moments up for anything.
"Oh, can you feel it?" Morality was doing his usual belt, and Logic just laughed and smiled. Patton's singing was contagious, and Logan couldn't help himself as he sang the backup vocals.
"Oh, can you feel it?" When Logan sang along, Patton lit up like a child on Christmas morning. Priceless. That adorable smile was absolutely, objectively priceless.
"Do you believe it?"
"Do you believe it?" When Logan sang along again, Patton's smile only got larger. It was quite possibly the sweetest, most beautiful thing that Logan had ever seen. He had observed many stars above in his lifetime, but nothing could be more mesmerizing than Patton's excited grin.
"It's such a magical mysteria," The moral Side only giggled more as Logan sang along with him again. The dance they were doing had calmed down to a typical slow dance to the beat of the song. Logan had his hands on Patton's waist, and Patton had his arms slung around Logan's shoulders. It was as though the entire world had fallen away, leaving only them behind.
"When you get that feelin'!"
"When you get that feeling," Logan's singing was far quieter than Patton's, and he seemed almost distracted.
"Better start believin'!"
"Better start believing," Logan's laughter reignited when Patton dipped him down again. Morality held Logic in this position for what felt like the longest time, finishing out the chorus in the position with only Patton singing along.
"'Cause it's a miracle. Oh, say you will, ooh babe," Patton's breath seemed to hitch. "Hysteria when you're near,"
The two seemed to be stuck in this moment, wistfully staring into each other's eyes as though they were the only two people in the world. Patton broke into laughter, lifting Logan out of the dip finally. They let go of each other, and the logical Side seemed to be disappointed as Patton's touch left him.
"I hope you've had your fill of making me look foolish for the day," It wasn't said with malice or anger, as evident by the large smile on Logan's face.
"Nope! Not even close, kiddo," Patton giggled. Logan fondly rolled his eyes, picking up his phone from where it had been discarded on the floor.
"You're incorrigible and unprofessional," Logan smiled back at Patton, who quickly got the message. The moral Side ruffled Logan's hair with the silliest grin.
"I love you too, Lo," He chuckled in response before heading back into the kitchen to finish breakfast. As Logan sat back at the table, he found himself missing the feeling of Patton's hands around him.
...Which leads to Logan's current predicament. He was seated on the couch with a pillow in his arms. Virgil sat beside him with a hand on his back while Roman, Remus, and Janus all sat on the floor in front of him. The logical Side had just finished telling the story of his and Patton's dance, and his feelings that came about during and after it.
"And I still miss my contact with him! Why do I still miss it!?" Logan shouted, looking utterly panicked and confused.
"You could just ask to dance again," Remus suggested, looking at his nails with a shrug.
"UGHHHH," Logan groaned, burying his face in the pillow he was holding. Remus scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"What!? That wasn't even one of my bad suggestions," He huffed, earning a pat on the thigh from Janus.
"I cannot just ask Patton to dance with me again!" Logan snapped.
"Why not?" Virgil spoke up, tilting his head.
"Because...!" Logan sighed, squeezing the pillow closer to his chest. "Because I am not supposed to feel things, and he forces me to! None of you do that to me, why is he different? He makes me feel figuratively fuzzy inside, and it's all so overwhelming and amazing at the same time. It's completely illogical, and I can't help but love every second of it,"
"Logan," Roman chuckled lightly. "Are you seriously not seeing the obvious?"
"What? There is nothing obvious about this! I have no idea why I feel this way about him of all Sides!" Logan's voice was practically a whine.
"Oh, buddy..." Janus cracked a smile as well. "You've got it bad,"
"Got what!? I am not sick! I have already looked into that!" Logan tilted his head, looking horribly puzzled.
"You're so sick," Roman teased. "Sick with love!"
"...What? Absolutely not!" Logan slammed his fists into the pillow. "Love is stupid and pointless, and it makes people behave like morons!"
"He said, behaving like a moron," Virgil's comment earned a glare from the logical Side. "What? You're denying the fact that you're totally in love with Dad, which is pretty moronic if you ask me,"
"Virgil, you are supposed to be on my side here!" Logan huffed.
"Logan and Patton sittin' in a tree-!" Remus began his teasing in a sing-songy voice.
"Shut up!"
"K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
"Janus, shut him up!"
"Please, Logan. Don't deny the truth here," Janus' comment was Logan's breaking point. He was up and storming off to his room. He could hear the others calling out after him, but he ignored them. He couldn't stand being in front of them when they knew the truth.
Finally getting to his room, Logan slammed the door shut and threw himself into bed. He grabbed one of the plushies on his bedside table and hugged it close to his chest. It was the plush Patton that he had kept in his room since Thomas had created them. He had the other plushies on his bedside too, but Patton's was always at the front of the group. He made sure that his and Patton's plush counterparts were at the front of the group, right next to each other. Right where they ought to be.
Logan didn't want to cry, but he couldn't help as tears fell from his cheeks. If he was in his right mind, he'd be questioning the ability to cry, but he wasn't in his right mind. He hadn't been in his right mind since that morning's little dance with Patton. His soft tears quickly turned into loud, guttural sobs. He curled in on himself more, squeezing the life out of the Patton plush.
Even if he was in love with Patton (which he was adamant in believing that he was not), the chances of those feelings being reciprocated were slim. Patton wouldn't be interested in someone so emotionally unintelligent. The idea of being with Morality in that way was so impossible that it only hurt Logan more to think of it.
"Hey, Lo? Can I borrow-?" Oh, Logan knew that voice. And that nickname. That stupid nickname that Logan lived to hear. The logical Side attempted to stop his sobs, but they only got louder. He didn't dare look up to face Patton, but it seemed he didn't need to. He heard the door to his bedroom shut gently followed by soft footsteps toward his bed.
"Oh, kiddo..." Patton's voice was soft and comforting. It should have comforted Logan some, but he couldn't help but cry harder. "What's goin' on, Logan? You know you can tell me," Patton gently rubbed Logan's shoulder, smiling at the sight of Logic holding the plushie.
"Mini-Patton's keeping you company there, huh?" Morality ran a hand through Logan's hair. Logan sniffled and nodded, his sobs slowing slightly.
"Oh no! You sound a bit stuffed up there, kiddo!" Patton cracked a smile. Logan laughed through his tears.
"You are incorrigible, and you can never take anything seriously,"
"I love you too, Logan," Patton's words hit Logan like a truck. The logical Side broke down back into sobs. Patton frowned, sighing softly.
"What's the matter? You can't keep it all bottled up, you know,"
"Yes, I am perfectly aware! I was the one who taught you that-!" Logan snapped through his sobs. He curled in on himself further.
"Logan, I love you, and I hate seeing you so upset. Why can't you tell me what's wrong?"
"Stop it, stop it, stop it! Stop saying that! Stop saying you love me, Patton!" Logan shouted suddenly, his cries interrupting his words every so often. "I am behaving irrationally, and it is you that is to blame for all of it! You make me feel things, and I love it, and I hate it, and I-!" Patton looked a little dumbfounded as Logan collapsed back into sobs. Morality felt a pang of guilt at the sight. Logan was usually so composed and calm, but he was acting so strange. Somehow, Patton was to blame for all of it. The emotional Side fidgeted, stepping back slightly with a frown.
"I'm sorry, kiddo. I'm sorry that I made you so upset," Patton muttered, looking incredibly guilty. "I didn't mean to, really! I-! I'll... I'll leave you be, Lo. I'm sorry,"
"What? No! No, that's not what I meant to-!" Logan felt so helpless as he sat up to watch Patton exit. His breath picked up as the moral Side turned back to stare at the logical Side, tears running down both of their faces now. Logan was shaking, and he couldn't hold himself back anymore.
"This morning. When we danced, I-... When we danced together, I had so much fun. You always know exactly how to make me smile, and I adore every moment we spend together," Logan could feel his heart slamming in his chest. "And it made me think... It made me think about how I love being up early with you every morning. Because you... you'll be singing along to those needlessly silly songs, and you dance along too and do that stupid air guitar. You look so happy while you do it, and I love it. I love seeing you smile like that,"
"Logan-"
"And when you pulled me from my chair and got me to dance, I felt something. It was exhilarating and terrifying all at once, and I loved it. I loved being so close, and I loved feeling your hands on me," Logan's sobs had stopped, but tears were still spilling down his cheeks. "Then you dipped me, and you were singing to me. It was the most amazing thing that I have ever felt in my life. And when you let go, I missed your touch. I still miss it, even now. It's so irrational, and I don't know if I am losing it or not,"
"Logan," Patton sat down on Logan's bed, smiling softly. "You're not losing it, Logan,"
"Then what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing is wrong with you," Patton cupped Logan's cheek. "You're in love, kiddo, and that's okay,"
"But?"
"But...?"
"This is where you tell me that you love me in a strictly platonic manner,"
"Why would I tell you that, kiddo?"
"Because that's how it is,"
"Is it?"
"I do not know... Is it?"
"...I don't think so," Patton admitted with a shrug. "I think you're pretty neat, Logan. Despite your whole 'not feeling emotions' thing, I can tell you care. You have the cutest smile when you rant to me about space or philosophy, and you always help me out when I need it. Plus, you have great taste in plushies," Logan chuckled at that last part, looking down at the plush in his hands. He sniffled softly, shaking his head.
"You're so cool, Logan. You do so much for everyone, and I see how hard you fight for Thomas," Patton leaned forward, resting his forehead on Logan's. "I love you too, Logan,"
"Patton?"
"Hm?"
"When you say that, do you mean it? I mean, before now,"
"Well, it depends on who I'm saying it to," Patton replied with a shrug.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah! When I'm saying it to Roman or Virgil, it's like I'm telling my kids that Dad loves them, you know? With Janus, it's more of a best friend or sibling kind of way. When it comes to Remus, I say it to make sure that he knows that even though his contributions aren't... the most helpful, he's still one of us,"
"And myself?" Logan's voice was soft and nervous, a tone that Patton wasn't used to hearing. Morality smiled, reaching for Logic's hand and squeezing it.
"It's like... It's like I'm telling my husband that I see how he shows me love without saying it," Patton giggled softly. Without much thought, he pressed his lips against Logan's gently. The logical Side's eyes widened in shock, but he quickly eased into it. Logan's eyes flickered shut, and he enjoyed the illogical and strange feelings blossoming in his chest. None of this made any sense to him, but it didn't need to when he was with Patton.
Dinner was usually the most collaborative meal between the Sides, with each person usually volunteering some form of help. Tonight, however, was strangely different. Patton had told everyone to just wait at the table because he and Logan wanted to cook dinner together. They didn't question it at first, but their lack of skepticism didn't last long.
Janus, ever the experienced liar that he was, noticed almost instantly that something was different between Patton and Logan. His biggest tip-off was that Logan /actually laughed/ at some silly pun Patton had made. For the rest of the time that the pair cooked, Janus watched them intently. It didn't hit him until something big happened.
Patton was boiling some water for pasta at the stove, and his back had been turned to Logan for a few minutes. Janus didn't think anything of it until the logical Side crept up behind his emotional counterpart. Logan gently slid his hands around Patton's waist and placed a kiss on the moral Side's neck. As chaste and sweet as it was, Patton seemed to have a strong reaction to it. He gasped and giggled, pushing Logan away in a playful manner.
Oh my God, they had gotten together! The realization hit Janus as he saw Logan genuinely smiling at Patton. The deceitful Side had known about the crushes the two harbored for each other, and he had been attempting to nudge them in the right direction. He was sure that it had gone wrong after he encouraged Patton to get Logan to dance that morning, seeing Logan's adverse reaction to it after the fact.
"Jan? You okay there, buddy?" Remus nudged him, seeing his gaze fixed on the pair in the kitchen. Patton and Logan looked at Janus as well, Patton's expression holding concern and Logan's holding a playful smile.
"What? What, Did we miss something?" Roman looked between Janus and the pair in the kitchen. Virgil said nothing, turning in his seat to look at Logan and Patton as well.
"I have no idea what you are talking about," Logan hummed, a knowing smirk on his face. He turned and pulled Patton into a gentle kiss. He pulled away after a moment or two, leaving the rest of the Sides completely dumbfounded.
"I am going to get some hot chocolate started. Would you like some, love?" Logan asked nonchalantly.
"Oooh, yeah! Could you throw some marshmallows in mine?" Patton replied with a giddy smile as Logan turned to grab some mugs for himself and his partner.
"AHA! I knew it!" Roman shouted, slamming his fists on the table. He turned to his twin with a laugh and a smirk. Remus rolled his eyes and slammed a twenty-dollar bill on the table.
"I thought the nerdy wolverine here woulda been too uptight to confess!" Remus snapped with a huff.
"Told you that you were in love with Dad," Virgil teased, smiling softly at Logan. The logical Side shrugged with a contented smile.
"Patton is objectively the best candidate for a partner, in my opinion anyway. He is smart, funny, and objectively adorable. It should be more surprising that I didn't act on it until now," Logan smiled at his boyfriend who smiled right.
"So Patton confessed to you, then?" Janus smirked.
"Awww, come on, Lo! Tell them about how you let me kiss you first!"
"I will not," The other Sides exchanged glances of relief. The couple had been pinning for each other for far too long, and it was nice to see them finally expressing their feelings for each other.
Patton stepped closer, pulling Logan into a gentle embrace. He wrapped his arms around Logan's shoulders. Logic sighed contentedly, resting his hands on Morality's waist. He could hear the others whisper small, teasing words, and he knew that he would've found this embarrassing if it wasn't Patton doing it. Still, Logan had a reputation to keep up.
"You, Patton Sanders, are incorrigible and unprofessional, and you never take anything seriously for even a second," Logan chuckled lightly, earning a giggle from Patton.
"I love you too, Lo," The moral Side whispered, capturing his new lover in a gentle kiss.
