Amity stared back at herself in the mirror as she finished putting on her eyeliner. She wasn’t too fond of the eyeliner or any of the human realm make-up she had to use while stuck there. She had been using the same make-up since she was 12 and started wearing the stuff so adjusting to a whole other realm's make-up was a challenge. Once finished, she put down the eyeliner and inspected herself in the Noceda bathroom mirror. She was wearing a simple black top tucked into a skirt with pink flowers all over it, along with her usual earrings and necklace. She usually hated wearing outfits like this but it was a special occasion and what she had found at the thrift store was made of a lot more comfortable material than the stuff Odalia picked out for her.
Suddenly, Amity heard a knock from the otherside of the bathroom door. “Ams? Are you ready yet?” Luz shouted from the otherside, way louder than she needed to.
“Yes I think I am,” Amity said as she walked over to the bathroom door and opened it to find her girlfriend on the other side of the door, tapping her feet with excitement. Luz had opted for a black suit and a bowtie. Amity was absolutely enamored. “You look incredible Luz.”
Luz began to blush and rub the back of her neck, “And you look absolutely stunning Sweet Potato.” It was Amity’s turn to blush at the complement as she began to flap her hands close to her chest with a smile on her face. “Now then,” Luz outstretched her elbow as an invite for her girlfriend to hold on, “Shall we have our mundane, slice-of-light date?”
Amity let out a quick giggle, “You’re such a dork,” Amity grabbed on to Luz’s elbow, “But yes, I think we shall.”
Luz had led Amity to a local burger joint that had opened up while she had been away in the demon realm. Luz was really excited when she found out about it since it was vegan meaning she didn’t have to worry about any dairy. Amity was just happy that her girlfriend was happy. The couple took a seat together on a table right beside the window so they had a good view of the city outside. The two girls looked over the menu their waiter had left for them when they were seated. It wasn’t very big, just various versions of the same burger and fries meal, their soft drink selection, and a few flavors of a dairy free milkshake. It didn’t take long for Amity to figure out what she wanted so she put her menu down and decided to look over at her girlfriend still figuring out what she wanted.
Amity saw her head in her hand as she admired the girl in front of her. She wasn’t the best with showing her emotions on her face so outsiders couldn’t tell, but Amity was giving Luz her own version of a look of pure admiration. Luz eventually sat her menu down and saw Amity staring at her and giggled. Luz then mimicked her girlfriend's stance and also ended up just staring at her girlfriend. Neither was the best with eye contact, especially not this close, but both girls had an exception for the other. Amity was the first to break the silence, “Your eyes are beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as yours.” Luz replied.
“Sorry to break up this moment,” said their waiter who had apparently approached the table unnoticed. Both girls pulled their arms off the table and looked over to their waiter, “But have you two lovebirds decided what you’ll be having?”
“Yes,” Amity replied with an embarrassed blush, “I would like the cheeseburger and fries meal with no lettuce and a water to drink please.” Amity handed over her menu to their waiter.
“And I would also like a cheeseburger and fries meal, but with no tomatoes or onions please. Oh and also a large vanilla milkshake with two straws.” Luz said that last part with a hint of pride in her voice as she handed her menu over.
“Your order will be out in a couple minutes,” the waiter said as she left for the kitchen.
“Why’d you get two straws with your milkshake?” Amity asked, rather puzzled.
“The second straw is for you, silly,” Luz answered.
“Huh, why?”
“Because we’re going to share it!” Amity still looked at Luz puzzled. “Okay so here it is a romantic tradition to share a milkshake with your date! It’s super cute and I thought it’d be fun to do it with you, but if you don’t want to we don’t have to.”
“No that sounds fun,” Amity spoke up, “It just isn’t a thing in the isles so I was a bit confused but I would love to participate in one of your cultural traditions!”
“That’s great!” As Luz said this their waiter had returned with Amity’s water and the large milkshake that had been placed in the center of the table, a straw facing either girl. Luz was the first to go in as she leaned forward and started to drink her milkshake. Amity soon mimicked her movements as she began to drink the milkshake. Once again their eyes locked together as they drank, both girls began to blush at the other. Luz began moving her leg up and down rapidly while Amity fought back the urge to wiggle her ears (It was too risky to do that in public). Luz was right, this was very romantic.
Eventually the glass ran out of milkshake as the taste of sweet vanilla was replaced with the sound of empty straws being sucked. Both girls sat back in their chairs with a giggle. Luz reached over to the glass and picked up the cherry that was sitting at the bottom of it. “You want the cherry?” Luz asked her awesome girlfriend.
“Yes I would,” Amity replied.
“Then come and get it,” Luz said as she took the stem of the cherry and put it in her mouth, leaving the fruit dangling from her mouth.
Amity smiled over at the human, “Titian you’re cheesy,” Amity mumbled as she bent over to her girlfriend and bit the cherry, making sure to leave a kiss on her girlfriend's lips.
