Hiiro and Aira are always arguing.
It’s usually something dumb and not that serious, like that one time Aira caught Hiiro watching him practice after hours which caused Aira to freak out and he brought it up the next day causing them to squabble over it. The formula was simple, they disagree, they have a quarrel, then they get over it after maybe 30 minutes. Rinse and repeat.
Today was no different.
It was supposed to be meaningless conversation while eating lunch, until Aira mentioned something he learned in history class. He brought up a specific fact that caused Hiiro to debunk him. Normally Aira would just accept he was wrong but there was something in his gut that told him he was right. It was the combination about the fact he had recently gotten a good grade on test and whenever he was studying, the words in the paper were starting to make sense and not a bunch of nonsense.
So he challenged Hiiro.
Gave him a mere suggestion that he could be the one wrong instead. Usually when Hiiro is told he is doing something wrong by Aira, it’s a social problem, like too much eye contact. However he was dealing with facts now. This was a historical event he learned and remembered so instead of usually taking his advice with stride, Hiiro challenged Aira’s challenge by insisting he was the one who was wrong.
The tension in the small lunch table grew.
Neither was ready to back down.
Well until a third competitor entered the area. A buzzing sound came from Aira’s pocket. He grabbed his phone to reveal, A SPAM CALL. He hung up quickly but it was too late. The element of technology and therefore the internet was introduced. It would like incredibly suspicious if he didn’t look up the answer while the phone was in his hands. It’s not like he was wrong anyway so what he was harm? He looked up the event, boasting to Hiiro was the internet would be on his side. His bold statement got off when the search loaded.
He…was wrong.
He was so confident about his stance yet he was still wrong.
It was like an arrow shot Aira’s heart and not the cute romantic kind, no this was the kinda that hurt. He didn’t know how to tell the boy in front of him what he found out, but his silence was a dead giveaway for Hiiro. Then, the next few words that left his mouth would leave him shocked.
“Hehe, it seems you’re the idiot today Aira.” Hiiro said playfully.
A second arrow hit Aira’s heart. He was too stunned to speak. Yeah he always calls Hiiro an dumb, but that’s because he never minded. His crush calling him an idiot was too much for for the teenage boy. Maybe a bite of the ice cream he ordered could cheer him up in these trying times. What he had forgotten however was that the back and forth Hiiro and him both had left the ice cream warm. He didn’t even take a bite, it was more akin to drinking soup.
He had stopped fighting as the third, metaphorical arrow hit him straight in the chest.
