Chapter 1: Memoried Replayed
Chapter Text
June 2014
"Ugh! I can't stand the Addams family. They think they're so special," Esther mentioned as she peeked through the blinds.
The nearly gray haired woman looked intently through the window to find her neighbors chatting on their own patio. Listening behind the older lycanthrope is her youngest child, Enid Sinclair.
Hearing her own mother talk badly about the Addams, she says, "They seem like very nice people."
Esther scoffed, "You don't know anything about them like I do. The entire family and their appalling bloodlines are criminals. Including their daughter and son. Which is why I forbid you from ever getting near them. I can't have you be influenced by a bunch of delinquents. Understood?"
She stepped away from the window facing next door where the Addams live. Esther fully turned around and looked down at her daughter who clutched onto a small unicorn plushie, waiting for a response.
"I understand," Enid muttered while hugging the stuffed animal tighter.
Ever since the Sinclairs moved to California towards the end of February of the year two-thousand fourteen, Esther was mainly the person who wasn't fond of her next door neighbors. It has been three weeks since she realized they are strange. She went as far as to make sure her daughter was not attending the same school as the Addams' children.
After months of living in San Francisco, Esther finds ways to complain about the family members. Anybody would agree in order to not upset her. After all, she's in control and has everyone wrapped around her finger.
"Good pup. Your father and brothers will be back from the park in two hours. I'm inviting company over so it's best you stay in your room or play out back right now," she recommended.
"Okay," the small werewolf quietly answered.
Esther whirled away from Enid as she went up the stairs to prepare herself for the evening. It wasn't long before the only daughter of the Sinclair family walked to a door leading to the backyard. With one arm wrapped around the plush, Enid used her empty hand to unlock and slide the door open.
Immediately, a small breeze hit the young girl's face with her hair flowing back as she stepped out. The blonde closed the door shut as she planned what activity to begin on her own. Her eyes wandered the huge yard to find a box filled with chalk. She decided to pick up the colorful marking sticks and carry them to the side of the house.
There, the surface is made of concrete to be able to draw what the youthful wolf desires. Enid set both her teddy bear and the box to unlatch the container. Grabbing a single chalk, the she-wolf started writing her name first. Then, she began drawing hearts and rainbows.
As her mind focused on the art she's creating, a voice was heard from the other side of the wooden fence. After Sinclair finished coloring in the hearts, the voice became audible to her ears.
"Sit, Nero."
Intrigued, Enid dropped the chalk and climbed the fence easily. Holding herself over the barrier, she caught a little girl around the same age as her in front of a scorpion. It's not the first time the child beast has seen the braided pigtail human.
Whenever she and her family leaves the house, she tends to get a glimpse of the mysterious goth who does arbitrary things. Enid found her to be weird, but she didn't mind it. Although Esther reminded her daughter constantly about the eerie family, she made a decision to break the rules and engage with the Addams' daughter.
"Uh, hi?"
Enid stared while the other girl looked up to find the bright minor glancing over the fence.
"Were you watching me this whole time?" The dark clothed female questioned.
The therianthrope stammered, "O-of course not! I heard someone talking and wanted to know what was going on."
"Hm. So you're a nosy kid."
"I guess so," Enid murmured shyly.
"If you are going to be nosy, I'll aid you. My name is Wednesday. I'm a psychic. This here is my pet scorpion, Nero," she introduced herself and her tamed animal while holding her companion to show the lycan.
"I'm Enid. I am a werewolf," Sinclair presented as she took a good look at the scorpion.
"This is my first time meeting a werewolf," Wednesday gazed at her new acquaintance.
"And it's my first time seeing someone having a scorpion as a pet," Enid commented.
"I know. Would you like to pet Nero? He won't sting you. I trained him to do so in self-defense," the raven offered.
The blonde replied, "Sure!"
Wednesday picked up Nero and raised him as Enid reached her hand out carefully to not startle the arachnid. Carrying him higher, the wolf was able to make contact with the scorpion. With her fingertips, she grazed her hand over the tough skin. The psychic noted that Nero was calm and felt safe under Enid's touch.
"He seems to like you surprisingly," Wednesday pointed out.
"Really? How do you know?" Enid's face lit up.
"Nero didn't sting or pinch you," the dark haired girl lowered the animal to the ground before he began crawling away.
"Wow! I must be lucky," she proudly smiled.
Seeing Sinclair grinning nearly made the Addams child smirk. All she can think is the blue eyed creature is an oddball just like herself.
"Very. Anyways, what are you doing outside?"
"Well, my mom invited her friends over to the house so she told me to stay in my room or go outside," Enid clarified.
"Sounds like she kicked you out. You must be bored out of your mind alone," Wednesday said plainly.
"I am. But I won't be if we play a game without my mom knowing," Enid thought of an idea.
"I suppose I wouldn't mind having torturous fun. I do have an evil plan in my head," the gothic kid brought up.
"What's your evil plan?" The therianthrope tilted her head out of curiosity.
"Let's dig a tunnel in secret."
——————————
September 2014
After a few months of encountering each other, Enid and Wednesday secretly met up without their parents' knowledge. Together, they made a tunnel connecting to their backyards underneath the fence thanks to Wednesday's knowledge. They went as far as climbing over their yards in the middle of the night. As far as the duo knew, they were inseparable.
The pair discussed their school lives, secrets that they have, and what their families are like. Both girls clicked the more they spent time with each other. Enid and Wednesday respected and acknowledged one another, meaning no arguments emerged.
Enid wished to prove to her mother that the Addams, specifically Wednesday, aren't as bad as she depicted them to be. However, Esther would be beyond furious at her daughter and ban her from going outside without supervision. Therefore, the small friendship would be kept confidential from everyone.
"Look Wednesday! I brought gummy worms for you and I to share," ecstatically, Enid handed over the bag of candy to Wednesday while in the narrow hole.
She closed the trapdoor covered with sod above to blend in with the grass all over the yard, preventing anyone from finding the hidden underground compartment. A mini ladder is placed against the dirt wall for the girls to climb up and down.
"Gummy worms? I prefer real worms instead of sugary treats, but this is fine," Wednesday admitted as she opened the bag and tossed a gummy into her mouth.
"That's pretty gross. Anyways, how's Nero doing?" The werewolf wanted to know his well being.
The raven answered while handing Enid back the candy, "Nero is doing well. I left him inside as he had been outside for hours already."
"That's good. Oh! And by the way, I made something special for you," Enid vocalized in excitement.
"What is it?" Wednesday lifted a brow in curiosity.
"I can't tell you yet. I'm almost done making it."
"Oh. So it's something you're creating by hand. I wonder what it could be."
"Hopefully you'll like it. It took days for me to even start it," Sinclair announced nervously.
"Whatever it is, I will be grateful and think of it as an enjoyable gift," Addams made aware.
"Thanks Wens. I feel better hearing you say that," the blonde beamed out of appreciation.
"If it makes you happy, then good. Hopefully, you will complete my present very soon before you run out of time," Wednesday sighed heavily which made the pup suspicious of her.
Enid easily queried, "What do you mean by that?"
Sitting on the dirt, Wednesday propped her legs, placing both arms on top of her knees and laying her chin on it. Noticing her strange behavior and changes of facial expression, Enid figured it is something serious that's bothering the psychic.
Finally, the sulken girl reported, "My parents told me today that we're moving to a different state. Preferably New Jersey in two months to be exact."
"Are you sure?" The miniature creature wanted to know this wasn't some joke her companion made up.
"I'm certain, Enid. Rather than moving out, I'd want my mother and father to hang me upside for days if it means staying here in California. That is not the case, woefully," Wednesday wished.
"That's not fair," Enid pouted.
"I feel your agony. Maybe I can run away or hide somewhere where they can't locate me," Wednesday thought of.
"I don't think that would be a good idea. Your mom and dad will be worried about you," Enid declared.
"You're correct about it. If only we were adults as of now. You are the first child who doesn't get frightened by my actions and words. I no longer feel lonely because you're here," the goth moved her eyes to find the blonde's.
As usual, the lycanthrope lifted the corner of her lips before saying, "Me too. My brothers don't like playing with me, and my parents don't pay a lot of attention to me. But when it comes to you, I feel much happier when we talk and share snacks. You're way better than my family."
Listening closely to Enid's speech brought a new feeling to Wednesday. Her heart paced faster than normal and felt the warmth overcome the coldness attached to her skin. The sensation felt overwhelmingly strong to the point where heat was entrapped on the raven's cheeks.
"You're quite corny. However, I appreciate your enthusiasm. It's... welcoming," Wednesday felt some form of embarrassment from her statement.
"I'm glad. You and I can count on each other for anything. Even if we're apart," Enid cheerfully stated while now sitting shoulder to shoulder with her friend.
Addams informed the wolf, "Thinking about us being apart gives me an empty feeling like a void. I despise it immensely. Maybe, just maybe I can convince my parents to stay here. If they are not persuaded, I will have Nero sting my parents a thousand times."
"They'll die!" Sinclair shouted.
"My father and mother will survive. It has happened before," the smaller child shrugged her shoulders like the scenario didn't bother her.
"Oh! You guys are seriously immortal."
"More like we've endured ways people can die."
——————————
"It's not fair! He didn't deserve to be squashed in such a cruel way," Wednesday gripped the hem of her shirt from the rage and sorrow she felt as tears slid down endlessly.
Being as comforting as possible, the therianthrope tried to settle down the distressed girl beside her. Wednesday told the news to Enid about Nero's passing. She witnessed his body crushed with a bike while being held back by a group of boys. Nero and his owner minded their own business as they took a walk together. Now, the scorpion is being cremated at a pet crematorium.
"Do you know who the boys are? I can track them down and claw their stupid faces for killing Nero," Enid gritted her teeth with nails extending out of anger.
"There's no point in finding them. I'm positive they're long gone and so is Nero," Wednesday sobbed quietly.
The blonde felt bad for her companion. She was even on the verge of tearing up with Wednesday but remained calm in order to help the crying girl. Whatever soothing touches or words Enid is spewing out hasn't worked. Yet, there is one thing that may relieve young Addams.
"Nero is not fully gone. Stay here. I'll be right back," the she-wolf advised before darting out of the secret hideout.
She rushed to the back door and ran upstairs knowing that her parents and brothers had left thirty minutes ago. Entering her bedroom, she dug through a box filled with crocheted items inside. Enid pulled out one in particular and dashed back downstairs, to the backyard, and down into the compacted tunnel. Wednesday looked at her puzzled when Enid was holding something behind her back.
"I have something special for you," the werewolf disclosed before revealing the object in her hands.
Displaying in front of the grieving youngster is a crocheted Nero. Her glistening eyes went broad as they were set on the hand made plushie. Wednesday reached over and gently grabbed the animal made of yarn. It had glass eyes sewn to it with claws and a stinger. This was an exact replica of Nero and Wednesday adored it.
Without hesitating, she hugged the cuddly toy with all her might. Tears fell once again which worried Enid a bit. She was about to ask her only friend what was wrong until Wednesday began to speak.
"I-Is this what you have b-been making?"
Fiddling with her fingers, the lycan replied, "Yeah. I was going to give it to you on your birthday, but because of what happened, I thought it would make you feel better if I gave it to you now."
Glancing back to Enid with a fluttering feeling inside her chest, Wednesday says, "T-thank you. I will keep him with me forever."
"You're welcome Willa. You know I will do anything to make you happy," Enid put a hand on her shoulder.
"Of course you would," wiping her tears away, Wednesday flashed a light smile.
Gazing at the raven, Enid figured her job was a success. She went as far as distracting Wednesday from what had occurred to Nero. They moved on to a different topic and had a long conversation before Sinclair checked the time on her watch, indicating her family will arrive home soon. Making sure the gothic female will be fine on her own, Enid fled inside the residence.
Wednesday took the time, underground, to reflect the situation she was in. Even after losing Nero, the bubbly beast managed to raise Wednesday's spirit. There used to be a hollow feeling in her black heart until Enid made it whole. Without the blonde, the psychic would have struggled profusely with the death of her pet.
——————————
October 2014
Wednesday's birthday landed on a Monday. Enid remembered beforehand and had covertly bought a gift for her. The creature not only has a present to give Wednesday, but she needs to tell her something major. It was exciting to finally celebrate a birthday that's not her family. This was a day Enid had been looking forward to.
Since the birthday girl previously told the wolf her party won't end until seven o'clock sharp, she has been waiting patiently for the party to end. Sitting inside the hideout, Enid had her claws out to carve flowers and hearts on the dirt. Beside her is the gift wrapped securely with a black bow on top. While doodling, Enid looked at her watch to see it was a quarter past seven.
The pup thought that maybe the birthday event extended much longer till she listened to the sound of the hatch opening. Climbing down on the other side of the tunnel is none other than Wednesday. Straight away, Enid rushed towards the braided pigtailed girl to give her a deadly hug. Feeling accepted and sheltered, Addams wrapped her arms around her best friend.
"Happy birthday Wednesday!" Enid hollered joyfully as she pulled away from the embracement.
"Thank you, Enid. I apologize for being late. My father and mother wouldn't stop rambling about me turning eight years young," the raven's eyes rolled thinking about her parents.
"It's okay! I'm just happy that you're here, and I get to spend a little bit of time with you," Sinclair beamed sweetly.
"Thank you for understanding," Wednesday detected herself blushing moderately.
"No need to thank me Wens," Enid softly spoke with a hint of gleam in her blue eyes.
The blonde gripped the shorter girl's forearm delicately to take her over where the present remained. Wednesday caught onto the therianthrope's change in behavior based on Enid holding her tightly, her voice filled with endearment, and the way her hand is latched onto her arm. One last thing she noticed was the redness on the beast's cheeks.
Something was up.
Before Wednesday could decipher Enid's intentions, she was halted. The hand on her upper arm detached so the werewolf could pick up the wrapped box. She then straightened her arms out to hand the package over to the psychic. Willingly, Wednesday grabbed it.
"What's this?" She questioned.
"A gift, silly! I got you something nice for this special occasion," Enid summarized briskly.
"Oh."
Wednesday began tearing the wrapping paper slowly and dropping it on the ground along with the bow. It was a cardboard box that was sealed closed with clear tape in which Enid helped slice it open thanks to her razor sharp nails. Flipping the wings of the container revealed a ten inch machete with a cover. Cautiously, the goth took it out of the box and inspected it.
Pulling off the leather sleeve, Wednesday could tell the blade is made out of carbon steel. She ran her fingers along the sharp edges and onto the wooden handle. The present is perfect in Wednesday's eyes.
"Where did you get this?" The birthday child wondered, considering Enid is not old enough to purchase a weapon like a machete.
"Well, I didn't actually buy it. I stole it at an antique shop," the colorful she-wolf grinned.
Wednesday smirked, "It seems I have taken a minor toll on you."
"It'll be the last time I do something like that. There were cameras, my parents, and workers keeping an eye out."
"Impressive. Thank you for committing a crime for me," Wednesday mentioned as her face softened.
"You're welcome Willa! I know you like weapons so why not give you one for your birthday," Sinclair made a point.
"You are correct about my obsession. So what now?"
Enid clutched onto Wednesday's hands before saying, "I'm not done with handing out gifts. Honestly, I don't think it could be a present but whatever. There's something I want to tell you."
"Go on," Addams narrowed her brows, trying to speculate what the lycan wants to disclose.
Enid let out a nervous, deep breath. She anxiously dragged the palm of her hands down to the hem of her long sleeved shirt. The raven rapidly grew concerned for her friend.
That was until Enid blurted out in a serious tone, "I... I have a crush on you Wednesday Addams."
The wolf began turning scarlet red while her heart thumped wildly, anticipating to hear what her crush had to say. As for Wednesday, she didn't expect a love confession. She always convinced herself that Enid was being extra considerate and supportive because they are friends, nothing more.
She'd thought no one would ever romantically love her because of how strange and different she is between her and the rest of the world. Enid proved her theory wrong. There was some doubt left to be resolved.
So Wednesday asked, "Why?"
In response, Enid said with confidence, "Because you're unique. I never met anyone like you. You're super pretty, you like to listen to me ramble nonstop, and you're the first to accept me for who I am. I know we are young, but my feelings for you are real. It's like I can do anything without being held back. You're my favorite person, Wens."
"You really mean it?" The dark eyed girl needed one last reassurance.
"I do mean it. If I have to, I will tell you a billion times how much I like you," Enid tried to lessen her love interest's mood.
Wednesday can sense the sincerity in the therianthrope's voice. It provided certainty and comfort that overcame the hesitation of wanting to love Enid back. She's able to free the emotions that have been locked and stored away from the inside.
"I... I like you too. I hate the way you make me react, but it feels right to me. I'm not an expert on love. Therefore, this will turn out to be a slow process throughout our relationship."
"And I'm okay with that. I can teach you what couples do. Like holding hands, going on dates, and maybe kissing!"
"Kissing is revolting," Wednesday folded her arms with a deadpan expression.
"Then, we don't have to kiss at all," Enid rubbed the back of her neck shyly.
"In the near future, it may happen. Remember, I am moving with my family next month," Addams averted her eyes towards the ground.
"I forgot about that," the werewolf claimed.
"I'm sure we can figure something out. For now, let's make our new relationship the most of it... together," the psychic took Enid's hand and clasped it with her own.
Enid gasped excitedly and chirped, "Okay!"
"I'm glad we're on the same page. Since everything is off our chests, let's retreat to your backyard. I don't want my family to search for me at the moment," Wednesday proposed.
"Sure thing. Let me make sure the coast is clear first," Enid alerted in advance.
"I'll be close by," she nodded.
The blue eyed child walked hand in hand with her lover towards the ladder leading to the Sinclair's property. Enid had to let go of Wednesday's hand to climb up and steadily push the trap door open. Peeking through the opening, her eyes went wide when she found her mother standing still, glancing at the movement of the hatch. At that time, hell broke loose.
"Enid Sinclair!!!"
The lycanthrope's heart dropped hearing the furious voice ten feet away. The blood was drained from her face when she found Esther stomping her way to the secret spot. Swinging the trapdoor completely open, she found Wednesday behind Enid. Her daughter coward in fear while the stubborn girl maintained a stone-cold facial appearance.
"I-I can explain mom," Enid tried to protest, but her mother wasn't having it.
"Explain!? There's nothing to explain here Enid! You've been hanging around the last person I wanted you to be near. This is unacceptable. Both of you, get out of there!" Esther was ready to explode.
Quickly, the couple came out without question. Enid was beyond scared while Wednesday started planning ways to make Esther disappear. The older woman grabbed the childrens' wrists and dragged them through the backyard gate.
"I'm going to chat with your parents because they clearly cannot watch their own child in their own household! Especially when you're manipulating my daughter to become like you and your wretched family," Esther implied to the goth.
"My 'wretched' family could care less what I do. As for manipulating your daughter, I wouldn't do such a thing," Wednesday defended herself.
"Mom, please. It was my idea. You can punish me, but leave Wednesday out of this," Enid begged her mother.
"I don't give a damn what both of you say. You know her name which indicates you and her have met constantly without anyone knowing," Esther continued hauling the girls.
Marching away from the back of the Sinclair's house, the trio landed on the Addams' yard. There, a few people were standing by the driveway. It turned out to be the parents of Wednesday and an extra member of the family with them. As Esther, Enid, and Wednesday approached the group, they smiled at their neighbors. The judgmental werewolf found it disturbing.
"Good evening neighbors! And Wednesday? What are you doing with them?" The father of Wednesday interrogated.
"I'm here to make a complaint, Gomez. Your daughter built a hideout connecting to my yard just so she can control my baby to become like you and your demented family," Esther made it clear.
"That's not true," Enid spoke up speedily.
"Quit it or else," the therianthrope mother enlarged her claws, close to piercing Enid's skin who winced from contact.
"I assure you our poisonous girl hasn't done any harm to you or your daughter, Mrs. Sinclair," Morticia smiled to de-escalate the situation.
"You really think I'll believe in something like that?"
"Yes!" Gomez replied with conviction.
All Esther could do was roll her eyes and huff from the frustration taking over her. She moved her glance over to the bald man who listened and watched the interaction unfold. Because of her enhanced smelling ability, she can sniff out an unordinary scent coming off from the man. Thanks to the gossip around town, Esther knew the unknown man's name.
"Fester Addams. Do you happen to have electricity powers?" The elder Sinclair inquired.
"How do you kn-"
Esther cut him off, "Don't ask how I know your name. As for how I know about your capacity, I'm a werewolf. I can smell and sense the electricity running through your body. Only lycanthropes can find out what type of a freak you are. You reek of burnt plastic by the way."
"Oh. Well, thanks!" Fester thanked the woman.
"It's not a compliment, but anyways. I cannot have my pup associate with any of you. In fact, I'm going to erase the bond our daughters have right now."
"And exactly how will you do it?" Wednesday felt as if the female wolf was bluffing.
With a smirk, Esther elaborated, "Electroconvulsive therapy. Fester here can use his electricity to wipe away both of your memories."
"What?!" Enid looked at her mother like an insane person she is.
"I will do no such thing. This is my niece and your child we're talking about. I wouldn't go to this extent," Fester professed.
"Oh really? Let's test the water shall we? I know you're a criminal. You robbed banks and museums before. I know my senses based on the aroma you give off and the places I've been to. They're very similar. I'm no fool. But clearly, you are," her tone sounded satisfied.
As a pale man, Fester turned even paler than ever. The rest of the Addams family and Enid included were baffled to hear Esther spill information regarding the bald male. The Addams knew Fester was a criminal. However, they didn't expect their impertinent neighbor to know.
"I can call the cops and let them know the robber is next door. Or, you do as I say, and you won't be locked up for the rest of your life. Play a dirty trick on me, and you'll come to regret it," Esther shoved Wednesday and Enid forward to Fester as her canines and nails increased as a way to make the Addams feel threatened.
"T-this is wrong," Enid insinuated in a shaky voice.
"It's not if it helps you become like one of us and not them," Esther glared down at the blonde.
"You're a terrible being! Way worse than us," Wednesday clenched her teeth tightly.
"I'm doing what's best for my little girl."
The small therianthrope remarked, "You know what Wednesday? Let's have Fester get rid of our memories. I know you wouldn't want him in jail and neither do I."
"Really?" Esther didn't predict her kid would go along with the plan.
Enid turned to her mother and declared courageously, "You can erase all the memories you want from me, but you cannot erase the love I have for Wednesday."
Another statement Esther didn't predict. Her jaw dropped as everyone else went wide eyed. Wednesday balled her fist when she found Enid's eyes beginning to water. She wanted to rip and shred Esther into the smallest piece possible. Both girls started a fresh relationship that will turn into nothingness. All of their feelings have gone to waste.
"Get rid of their memories NOW!!!" Esther was ready to strike at Fester until he placed his hands on top of Enid and Wednesday's head.
Before Fester could shock the children, Enid gazed at the raven and mustered out with teary eyes, "I'll come back to you Wednesday."
"So will I," Wednesday drawled while a lump in her throat formed.
"I'm so sorry kids."
Fester's hands quivered above the heads as he emitted an enormous amount of electricity energy into the girls' brains. Their bodies jerked in rapid pace as if they were having a seizure. Wednesday and Enid's eyes rolled back while electrocuted for almost a minute until everything went black for them. The procedure was finished, and it turned out to be successful when none of the girls recognized each other.
Chapter 2: An Odd Presence
Chapter Text
August 2022
Enid Sinclair
"If you don't wolf out soon enough, you'll be considered a lone wolf. That's the last thing I want," my mother repeated the millionth time.
In an annoyed voice, I said, "You don't have to tell me twice. The wolf in me will be ready to fully come out whenever she wants to."
"I wolfed out when I was thirteen. I'm not getting any younger while I'm waiting for you to wolf out honey."
"Looks like you and I will need to continue waiting for me to wolf out. Anyways, I should get going. I don't want to miss anything important," I changed the subject.
"No problem sweetheart. Be sure to add meat into your diet and work on wolfing out," my mom mentioned as she gave me a hug.
I hugged back and told her, "I will. Drive safe."
"Your father and I will," she smiled before letting go of me.
I watched my mother stroll to my dad and the car. He looked at me and waved with a huge grin on his face. I waved and beamed back as my parents hopped into the car and drove away. Once they were out of my view, I sighed out of triumph.
My parents overwhelm me to the brim, mainly my mother. She's always nagging about me not being capable of shifting into a werewolf. It's not my fault I'm a late bloomer. But it does suck. I am constantly worrying if I'll ever wolf out. And if I don't, there's nobody who will cherish me as a lonely wolf.
I made my way through Nevermore Academy and landed in the quad. There were a lot of freaks roaming around getting from one place to another. Even parents or guardians were there to spend every second with their children before leaving them here. My family is not like that. They helped me take my stuff to my dorm room, criticized me for not turning into a lycanthrope, and left me without support or reassurance.
At this point, I'm used to it. The younger I was, the more the words sting. Now that I'm older, it affects me less. I pray that this year will be the year I can wolf out so my mom would at least be proud of me. If that's not the case, I need to accept whatever consequences there are.
I searched around the courtyard to find any familiar faces I saw. My eyes moved around while I didn't see any signs of my friends until one approached me from behind. My body stiffened for a quick moment when an arm went around my shoulders. I relaxed after I saw which culprit had their arm wrapped around me.
"Yoko! Hi!" I shrieked as I embraced my friend.
The vampire held onto me and greeted, "Hey Enid! It's great to see you again. How was your summer break?"
I pulled back and answered, "It was decent. Not a lot happened other than wolf training and camping. What about you?"
"I've been doing the same old habits like sleeping, drinking blood, and sleeping. Nothing new really," Yoko shrugged, putting her hands on her hips.
"That's typical of you Tanaka. Are you ready for this school year?" I asked as the both of us started traveling around the quad.
"Yes and no. Yes, because I get to see my Divina. And no, because there's something called homework and projects that drives me to my breaking point," the bloodsucker complained.
"Understandable. I've already moved my stuff back into my room so I'm prepared to begin another chapter of school."
"Same here. When I walked into my dorm, there wasn't anyone who had moved in. Looks like I don't have a roommate again," Tanaka flashed a fangy smile.
"Same here! The other side of the room was empty. Though, I kinda wish I had someone to bunk with. It's pretty boring without having somebody to talk to," I addressed how I felt.
"True. At least you and I have visited each other for girls' night."
"And I can't wait to have many more with you," my lips quirked up.
"Same here," Yoko gave me a friendly nudge to my shoulders.
We resumed slowly wandering around campus as more and more students filled up the quad. Yoko and I chatted about some of the newest gossip and checked if our class schedule matched, which it did. As I stood still and listened to my friend blab about her crush, my eyes stopped at a specific human who stood out from everyone else.
It was an unfamiliar girl with braids, dark clothing, and a bleak expression. With her are what I presume to be her family since they had black attires and Principal Weems. Altogether, they were speaking to one another. My blue eyes stayed upon the mysterious teen until a hand waved across my face.
"Earth to Enid. Are you lost or what?" The vampire raised a brow in concern.
I snapped out of my own trance and apologized, "Sorry. I was wondering who that girl is."
Yoko glanced over in the the same direction I'm facing and found the exact person I'm staring at.
"Oh. You mean Wednesday Addams? Do you find her attractive or something?" Tanaka teased while holding a smug look.
Blood rushed to my cheeks as I yelled out defensively, "No! It's just that I've never seen or heard of her before. Especially when she's matching her family's aesthetic."
"Ha! Calm down my wolf friend. I was only joking. Back to Wednesday Addams. Yeah, that's how they dress according to one of the gorgon boys I talked to. I heard they're into some weird shit like torturing each other and using weapons like it's a toy," Yoko explicated about the strange family.
"That's a bit freaky. It reminded me of when my mom told me about our old neighbors being disturbing as shit that she prevented me from ever being near them," I brought up a memory from my past.
"Your mom must've sensed it in her bones. But damn, whoever has Wednesday as a roommate is in deep trouble. That is if she has to share a dorm with somebody," my vampiric companion indicated.
"It's not one of us so we are in the clear. Wednesday doesn't even look like she wants to be here to begin with."
"Relatable."
Before we made a sudden move, Larissa Weems made eye contact with me as the family of Wednesday left the area. With that, a smile appeared on the principal's lips as she and the goth approached Yoko and I. I was unaware why they were coming to us until the shapeshifter was close enough to me only.
"Good afternoon ladies. I'm glad to see you two again for another year. Yoko, may I have a word with Enid for a moment please?" Principal Weems politely asked.
"Go ahead Principal Weems. I'll catch ya later Enid. Text me when you get the chance," Yoko grinned at Weems and I right as she walked away from us.
"I apologize for intruding. I realized I needed to look for you, and you so happen to be right across from me," Weems sent me an apologetic grin.
"It's no problem. Is something the matter?" I gazed at the principal to Wednesday who seemingly glared at me.
"Nothing is wrong. I have a new student here who needs someone to show her around the academy. Wednesday, this is Enid Sinclair. Enid, this is Wednesday Addams," the tall woman introduced us.
Assuredly, I stuck a hand out and nicely said, "It's nice to meet you."
Wednesday didn't move a muscle and plainly stated, "I don't do handshakes nor hugs."
"Oh. I'll take note of that then," I dropped my hand and carried on beaming small at the girl.
"Now that you both know each other's names, I shall send you two off to begin the tour of Nevermore Academy," the white haired woman suggested.
"We will," I shortly replied.
"Thank you Enid. And before I forget, you're both sharing a dorm. Have a fun school year ladies," Weems gave us a little quick wave as she gracefully traveled to a group of sirens nearby.
Internally, I screamed. My jaw wanted to drop on its own. However, Wednesday was next to me with her dark eyes staring into my soul. I could've sworn no one was rooming with me unless Principal Weems decided at the last minute to place her with me. But who knows what Wednesday is capable of. Probably, she needs a friend to break her out of her shell.
"So... Where did you want to start?" I questioned the slightly shorter teenager.
"Nowhere. I propose we cancel the tour. It's a waste of my horrendous time, and I must unpack my belongings. I have studied the layout of Nevermore before I even set foot here," Wednesday sternly announced.
"I get it. I can tag along since we're both roomies. Also, I gotta empty out my duffel bags. It's going to take some time for me to put my clothes away," I kept the conversation going.
"As long as you don't interfere with my arrangement I won't torment you. I have a valued schedule to follow. And considering we are roommates, do not turn delusional and think of ourselves as acquaintances or anything more than that. I'm not obligated to have friends," she spat out viciously, eyes narrowing fiercely.
I gaped at her while she turned away and rushed towards Ophelia Hall. I was dumbfounded at how straight forward my new roommate is. I thought Yoko would be wrong about her. Apparently Wednesday is who Yoko says she is. Although, I didn't take any offense to her statement. My mind believes Addams is joking around. Except, she's very serious.
I trailed behind as we passed through everyone in the open space until we entered through the halls of Ophelia. Wednesday and I made it to a staircase where it leads up to the dorms. To the left of the hallway is where one of the rooms belongs to us. The gothic female knew which door to go for and opened it.
She went straight in without delay, leaving the door unlatched for me to walk inside our room. My baggage remained untouched like how my parents and I left them. I glimpsed over to the right where Wednesday's side of the room will be, and I noticed she had barely brought in any of her stuff. All there was was a large luggage, a briefcase, a typewriter, and a large case that held an instrument inside.
I couldn't help myself from asking, "Is that all you brought to the room?"
"Why yes. Unlike you, I didn't bring my entire house here. The amount of pink you own is absurd," Wednesday uttered in a hostile way as she examined my half of the bedroom.
I whirled myself to glance behind my side where my bags sat on my mattress. She's not wrong about me bringing literally my entire house, but that doesn't mean she had to be rude about it.
"What's wrong with pink?" I continued on with the questions.
"It's the most obnoxious color I've ever seen. Same goes for any other color besides black and white," she replied while setting in motion to unpack.
"Would that mean your school uniform will be black?"
"Yes. Pursue with your confounding interrogation and I will staple your mouth shut for eternity," Wednesday paused what she was doing and shot deadly daggers at me.
I felt a bit threatened by her words, and for that, I responded, "I'd like to see you try."
I grew my rainbow colored nails into long and pointy, two-inch claws. I showed them off to intimidate Wednesday, but she appeared more interested and amused than terrified by my enlarged nails. Seeing myself failing to scare her brought a feeling of embarrassment and shame.
"A werewolf trying to startle me with her repulsive, colored claws. What a pointless tactic to daunt me," the goth crossed her arms, unimpressed.
I put them away and huffed out, "Tch. I can't believe I'm sharing a room with you. I tried to be welcoming, and yet you're being a jerk to me."
"How atrocious," Addams remarked sarcastically while rolling her eyes.
I sighed in defeat, "Nevermind. This conversation is leading nowhere."
I went to my bed, not bothering to spare a glance at Wednesday and calming myself down. Unzipping my duffel bags, I carried out most of my clothes out and hung them in my closet with hangers provided for me. The rest were inserted in a drawer across my bed. I then took my bathroom necessities and neatly organized them in the restroom.
I had two suitcases left to go through when I heard a knock on the door. My eyes switched to the other side of the room, thinking Wednesday would get the door. That is not the case. She ignored whoever knocked behind the door so I decided to open it myself. There was nobody in sight or around the hallway.
I was confused on who knocked until I heard tapping against the wooden floor. I put my head down and found a hand standing on its five fingers. Promptly, I drew back and shuddered as I've never seen anything abnormal such as a hand moving on its own without the rest of its body attached.
"What the hell is that!?!" I shouted in panic, watching the limb scurry to Wednesday.
Wednesday disregarded my question and told the scarred hand, "You're late. Where have you been?"
I was scaring a guy who tried sneaking into a girl's room, the hand signed.
I cleared my throat to catch their attention before asking, "What is a hand doing here?"
Averting her eyes to me, the short girl responded, "I'm beginning to grow weary from your constant inquisitiveness behavior. His name is Thing, a family member. In case you interview me further about him, it is a mystery as to where the rest of his anatomy lies. That's all there is to introduce Thing."
This is the most unreal situation I have ever been in, I thought to myself.
"Uh, cool? I guess?" I was unsure what to say as I gawked back and forth between the two Addams.
Don't be afraid of me unless you mess with Wednesday and I, Thing gestured.
"That won't happen anytime soon," I acknowledged firmly.
"Stick to your words, Sinclair," Wednesday hinted earnestly.
"Will do, Addams," I tossed the same energy back.
I inspected Wednesday's bedroom to see her progress on emptying her baggage. A tall cello was propped near the huge, circular window we have along with a stand holding the manuscripts. The desk that's been untouched ever since I arrived Nevermore held up the typewriter she brought along. I imagined Wednesday had finished putting her clothes in the wardrobe she owns.
There were a few items she was retrieving in her briefcase when I spotted something standing out on top of her pitch black mattress. It was a scorpion plushie. And not just any plush, it was crocheted instead of stuffed. Someone close to her might've made it, or she purchased it somewhere.
Even so, I find it rare that someone so murderous-like would have a crochet animal. It reminded me of when I began crocheting at a young age. To this day, I'm an expert at it. While I eyed the soft arachnid, I felt a sharp, electricity pain occur to my head out of the blue. I laid a hand on my forehead to rub out the sensation when an image flashed through my closing eyes.
The picture wasn't clear but blurry, to the point where I couldn't decipher what I was seeing. The appearance lasted for a few seconds with colors of brown and black. It seemed like it was in my perspective, as if I was inside the vision. When I opened my eyes, the pain disappeared, and I was back where I stood.
Neither Wednesday nor Thing became aware of what was happening to me. They were busy setting up the final touches of the room. I found whatever I experienced to be bizarre. My first thought is that it has something to do about my werewolf. Although, my parents would've mentioned my situation, so I crossed the idea out.
Nothing else would come to mind besides having health issues, which I doubt is the problem. Instead, I decided to shrug it off and move on. I'm positive the pang will be a one time thing. I scanned the cottoned scorpion one last time, contemplating if I should get some information out of Wednesday based on the animal. I decided otherwise to save my skin.
I pulled out my phone and put in my password to unlock it. I clicked on the message icon and looked for Yoko's name. After finding it, I texted her about Wednesday moving in my dorm. Less than a minute later, I heard a ping from my phone and saw that my friend messaged me back. She sent me a few praying emojis along with the word rip.
Tanaka added on by saying we needed to gossip about my roommate after I've completed taking out my possessions. I gave her a thumbs up before returning my phone back to my pocket. I resumed unpacking leftovers such as my abundance of stuffed animals. Afterwards, I'm free to hang out with Yoko and able to avoid Wednesday trying to slaughter me.
Speaking of the goth, there's so much I don't know about her. She really is a perplexing person. I cannot grasp the idea that I'm going to be safe any time I am with Wednesday, particularly when we are sleeping in the same dorm. I'm reflecting on whether she might have had a bad day. If so, Addams will be a different person, and all of this nightmare will end. Then, there is no need to worry about my safety any longer.
Chapter 3: What Are the Chances
Chapter Text
Enid Sinclair
"Jeez girl. You'll be butchered by the time you close your eyes to sleep."
"By saying that, you have ruined my appetite," I leaned more into the seat with my arms crossed.
Currently, Yoko and I met up at Jericho to hang out at Weathervane which is a café and bakery. We were sitting in a booth, waiting patiently for our orders to be made.
"More food for me then," Yoko grinned happily.
"I take back what I said," my hunger approached once again.
My friend blew a raspberry before saying, "Whatever. Besides, I shall give you advice and suggest staying away from Wednesday. She seriously looks like the type of person you shouldn't mess around with. And if I were you, I'd be begging on my knees for Weems to room me with somebody else."
"Avoiding Wednesday would be difficult considering she is my roommate. Also, there's no way I would beg Principal Weems to switch Wednesday with someone else. It would make me feel bad and look like a total douche bag," I clearly clarified.
"I get where you're coming from. Maybe try being buddies with Wednesday one more time in order for her to not terminate you," Tanaka presented one last solution.
"If I end up dead, you're paying for my funeral," I joked around.
My vampiric companion held two thumbs up and replied with, "You got it girl."
Right as I rolled my eyes at Yoko, our drinks and pastries arrived at the table by a teen named Xavier Thorpe. We know the guy from school, but we don't hang out or talk to him.
"Here you guys go. Need anything else?" Xavier asked us politely.
"We're good. Thanks," Yoko responded for herself and I.
"No problem," Xavier gave us a small smile before returning back to the kitchen.
"I wonder what he and Bianca are up to these days," the bloodsucker thought as she chugged down half of her tea filled blood.
"They broke up two months ago," I nonchalantly told my best friend while taking a bite of my confetti cupcake.
"What?! How come I am barely hearing about this?" Tanaka exclaimed in shock.
"I thought I told you through text during summer break," I looked at my friend weirdly.
"Oh. I don't remember."
I rolled my eyes playfully at the girl before I reminded her again the situation between Xavier and Bianca. Afterwards, we moved on to a different topic until our food and drinks were finished. That was our cue to leave the coffee shop and head back to Nevermore Academy. We chatted more for a little bit on our way to campus up until Yoko and I arrived at Ophelia Hall. From there, we parted ways and went inside our designated rooms.
Inside the shared dorm was Wednesday sitting up straight on her desk. She had the typewriter resting on the table as her fingers tapped the keys continuously. My eyebrows creased at the sight of my roommate using a machine that hardly anyone uses these days. In my mind, that makes her even more weird than I thought.
Wednesday hasn't noticed me yet. However, Thing made sure she knew I appeared in the room once he tapped her on the shoulder and jumped off, landing on the table. The small teen turned around to get a quick glimpse of me before returning back to her typewriter.
She sarcastically muttered loud enough for me to hear, "Great. You're back."
"Yeah... I am. Did anything happen while I was gone?" I awkwardly interrogated the strange girl.
"Tragically, no. I had expected you to never return here, but that's not the case," Wednesday spoke without emotions behind her voice.
"You're stuck with me for a while whether you and I like it or not," I remarked as I walked to my bed and sat on the edge of it.
"I'd rather jump off the balcony than be trapped in a room with you," this time, Addams spun herself in the chair to stare at me.
"You are seriously not like anyone I have ever met, Wednesday Addams," I grinned slightly because of her words.
"Likewise. Now be quiet or else I'll staple your mouth shut," the braided pigtailed human spewed a threat.
I scoffed under my breath and uttered, "Whatever you say."
As she rotated away once more, my eyes searched around her side of the bedroom. It was neat and organized after she had finished unpacking her belongings. Nothing was decorated, leaving the room bland and colorless. Again, I located Wednesday's scorpion laying next to her darkened pillow. My curiosity got the best of me when I didn't bother to remain silent like I was told to.
"Did somebody buy or make your crochet scorpion?"
While I maneuvered my eyes to Wednesday, I detected her body tensing. The tapping on the keys halted as her hands now laid on the desk. She didn't bother to spare a glance in my direction, keeping herself still like a statue. I was preparing for the worst seeing that I did not listen to my roomie about being quiet. Yet, she answered my question willingly.
"I'm not sure."
Hearing her response made me laugh aloud on accident. My laughter made Wednesday spin in her chair to give me dangerous eyes.
I stopped myself before putting my hands up in surrender and apologized, "So sorry Wednesday! It's just that... how do you not know who bought or made it for you?"
Thinking for a bit, she stated, "I do not recall anyone buying or creating Nero. My family doesn't know who brought me him."
"Nero? Is that what you named your scorpion?" I smiled, beginning to feel interested in the arachnid.
"The name is based on my real pet scorpion who passed away when I was young," the goth recalled with a slim hint of sorrow to her eyes.
My facial expression changed quickly as I said with sympathy, "Oh. I'm so sorry for your loss."
"I don't conjecture Nero as a loss. Having him knitted into a real life size pet reminds me that he's here with me spiritually. I owe my soul to whoever produced him with yarn," Wednesday eyed the animal for a couple of seconds.
"Someone must have made it for you. And whoever it is, I can tell they really cared about you," a beam formed on my lips to lessen up the mood.
"I wish to find the person. Though, that is unlikely."
"Someday you will find that person. I have faith in you," I gave Addams a reassuring smile.
She nodded before resuming back to her typewriter. The entire time, Thing watched the encounter unfold intently. Right as the conversation died down, he hopped on the floor and crawled his way to me.
I then watched Thing climb to my bed and sign to me, Wow. She became vulnerable to you. That's the first.
Then it hit me. Wednesday Addams finally mentioned something about her life. Even if it's a minor detail, I'll take that any day.
"You're right. I feel accomplished," I sneered pridefully.
That will most likely be the last time Wednesday will provide information about herself. By the way, what's your name again? I don't think I caught it, the hand requested.
"The name's Enid Sinclair. I'm a lycanthrope," I properly introduced myself.
And I'm a hand.
I chuckled softly before verbalizing, "That, I know. And Wednesday? What is she?"
Thing moved his finger and said, A psychic.
"Woah. Does that mean she can predict anyone's future?"
Not really. Her ability is complicated. It can happen at random. Because she's known as a raven, she can view someone's misfortune only. Her mother is the opposite. She is a dove and can vision good deeds, the extremity addressed.
"Very Interesting. So I have a psychic who can predict mishaps as a roommate. I really hope Wednesday does not foretell my future just yet," I shivered in fear at the thought of what disaster could happen to me.
You'll be fine I assume, Thing tried to raise my spirit.
"Heh. Thanks Thing. You are not as bad as I pictured you to be," I curled my lips out of benevolence.
I appreciate your feedback, Thing gave me a thumbs up and began returning to Wednesday's side of the room.
I exhaled briefly in relief knowing that things are neutral between myself and the two Addams across from me. Now that school will kick off tomorrow, I do not know whether I have any classes with Wednesday. And if I do, I expect my days with her to go smoothly unlike what took place earlier in the afternoon.
——————————
"I hate mornings," Yoko grumpily vocalized while rubbing her eyes underneath her sunglasses.
"Good morning to you too," I nudged the taller girl by the arm.
We met up in the hallway upstairs of Ophelia Hall where our dorm rooms were. We decided to walk together to our first class that we have. By walking down the stairs, we were met with students roaming the halls to find their assigned class.
"I don't understand how you have so much energy," the vampire pushed her shades close to her eyes.
"That's because I don't pull an all-nighter thinking about Divina," I teasingly implied to my friend.
"Who's thinking about me?"
We whirled our heads in sync to find Divina proceeding towards us from a small distance. I swiftly studied Yoko's face which was red and panicked. I snorted at her reaction.
"O-oh hi Divina! We were just thinking about you maybe having some of the same class as us," Tanaka grinned funnily.
The siren stared skeptically at the bloodsucker before voicing, "I already told you yesterday that we have a class together, didn't I?"
I mentally face palmed myself as Yoko tried to make up an excuse, "I almost forgot! Botanical science is what the three of us have together ha ha. W-we should head over there before we're late. Right Enid?"
"Right Yoko," I went along with the act to save her butt for the sake of not making things more awkward than it already is.
"Let's go then," Divina shrugged her shoulders and hooked her arms around ours.
The mermaid-like-creature dragged us to our first class while I felt amused seeing Yoko on the verge of exploding out of love. Knowing that the two of them are hopelessly in love with each other made me jealous. I wish to find a mate that I can love unconditionally and receive the same intimacy back. Before I can do that, I need to wolf out. I'll be a lonesome wolf and a disappointment if it doesn't work out.
The three of us managed to get out of the main school building and were brought outside. Ahead was a grassy landscape with tall trees, hedges, and bushes surrounding a glass structure. There is an entrance for anyone to enter in and out of the greenhouse.
"Speaking of roommates, what happened to Wednesday, Enid?"
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard Yoko pose a question.
"Wednesday? She was gone by the time I woke up to get ready."
Tanaka responded, "I'm guessing she's an early bird."
A raven to be exact, I notioned in my head.
"Yoko told me about your roommate. She seems really ruthless," Divina sounded spooked.
"I'm surprised Enid survived the night. I would sleep in the hallway if I were her to be honest," the vampire provided her opinion.
"Wednesday is not that bad. As long as you keep her on her good side, she won't end up doing anything to you," I advised my friends.
"Easier said than done. You're pretty good at leaving people feeling positive. Although, you are no match for Wednesday. You two are complete opposites," the bloodsucker indicated the obvious.
"Addams will warm up to me sooner or later thanks to my bubbly personality. There's no doubt," I smirked with self-assurance.
"I can't wait to see it from afar," Yoko playfully punched my upper arm.
"Root for me while you're at it," I retorted.
"Say no more," the vampire flashed a smile.
While we inched closer to our class, I saw an estimate of ten people already seated inside the greenhouse. One of them stood out. Wearing all black in the school uniform is none other than Wednesday Addams. She was sitting in the front of the room with an empty seat next to her. Behind the psychic is a wooden lab table with two stools that haven't been claimed.
"There she is," Yoko whispered to her crush and I.
"No shit," I murmured, staring at the back of the raven.
"That's her?" Divina eyed the gothic teen in astonishment.
"Yup. That is my roommate," I plainly drawled.
"Oh. Well have fun being around her. I'm going to sit next to Bianca. Later Yoko and Enid," the siren winked directly to my friend and waved bye to me.
I waved back and captured Tanaka frozen in place as if a cupid shot an arrow through her heart. I wanted to laugh at my companion but chose not to humiliate her in front of our peers.
"Let's just sit behind my roommate. We're kind of closer to the love of your life," I held an entertained look.
"Good idea!" Yoko shrieked excitedly.
"First, I want to see how Wednesday is doing. I gotta make sure she's feeling at least sufficient since she is a newcomer in Nevermore," I notified the tall girl.
"Go ahead. I want to see if your interaction goes well or fails," Yoko wiggled her eyebrows.
"I won't hear the end of it if it fails," I predicted what Yoko would do.
"You are right about that," she nodded in agreement.
I dropped my school bag on the floor where my stool was before I slowly neared Wednesday. I took notes that she sat upright and focused more on what was scribbled on the board. The raven's hands rested on her lap, ready to take on the lessons. Now that I'm right beside her I seized her attention.
"Good morning roomie! How are you feeling so far now that school has begun?" I earnestly greeted.
"Like a cadaver. Expectedly, everyone that came across me steered away out of trepidation," Wednesday gave me an unusual answer.
"Does that mean your morning is going well?" I tried understanding her.
"It was until you came and bombarded me with your obnoxious questions," Addams glared at me.
I ignored her expression and uttered, "I was only making sure your first official day in Nevermore wasn't ruined. I'm sorry for being a concerned friend."
"One, we are not friends, may I remind you. And two, I certainly do not need your consideration. Just because I'm new to this horrid academy doesn't mean I should be treated like one."
"Even if we're not friends, I'll continue to be a decent roommate."
"Then you will be wasting your time on someone who doesn't need it," the psychic insinuated in annoyance.
"Looks like I will," I quirked my lips, not caring if it would make Wednesday angrier.
I returned to my new seat before she could say anything back to me. Yoko kept her word when I found her jaw dropped. Right as I plopped down on my chair, my vampiric friend appeared flabbergasted.
I queried, "Did I fail?"
Picking up her jaw, she reported back, "You failed to save your life. What in the world was that?"
"Like I said before, she'll warm up to me sooner or later. That's one of my goals to commit," I brought up.
"Using your friendliness tactic I see."
"That's about it."
Our discussion ended there when a familiar boy drew closer to Wednesday. It was Xavier from the coffee shop who then asked the raven if he could sit next to her. She didn't respond to his question and therefore took the empty seat. Before the bell rang, our teacher arrived to class. She introduced herself as Miss Thornhill, a normie, who is obsessed with plants. She wears prescription glasses and has auburn hair with bangs. Overall, the woman was kind and ready to teach.
Throughout class, everyone stayed quiet and respectful as Thornhill went through the syllabus and told us what we should expect when attending botanical science. There was also a quick assignment she handed out for us to write down information about ourselves such as hobbies, facts, and what we like in general. After finishing the classwork, we were dismissed when the bell rang.
My next class is fencing which Yoko has with me. Sadly, Divina didn't have fencing as her second class, so she bid us farewell. I thought that it was possible Yoko would be the only person I know who has fencing with me. Little did I know, Wednesday had the exact same class as me. Fate must want us to stick together. Weirdly enough, I had the courage to go up to Wednesday to chat once again.
"Looks like you and I have another class together," I proclaimed with delight.
"And here I thought I could get rid of you," she rolled her dark eyes and folded her arms.
"That will be tough to do," I held my head high in a pleased manner.
"Okay ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to fencing. My name is Coach Vlad, your fencing instructor. Today I will be introducing expectations, rules, and safety to follow for the entire year that you will be here with me. Before I start, I would like to say-"
I didn't bother to listen to what the mentor was disclosing about. Instead, I preferred speaking with Wednesday.
"Have you done this sport before?" I inquired in a low voice.
"Yes I have to the point where I'm unbeatable against any opponent," my roommate admitted.
"I gotta test it out for myself," I beamed innocently.
"Is that a challenge?" Addams lifted a brow.
"Might as well be one," I simpered like a fool.
"Challenge accepted," her eyes held a lot of eagerness rather than a dull emotion.
I couldn't help but feel lightweight thanks to our little conference. Wednesday didn't give me a snarky comment or insult me. She may continue to do so in the future. However, I take this one as a win. After all, I'll pave my way into her heart and establish a new friendship. She does deserve one.
Chapter 4: Crushes
Chapter Text
Wednesday Addams
I cannot fathom the idea of being in a crowd of fools. If anything, I'm not opposed to the thought of having a class to myself. Woefully, I wasn't capable of making a choice no matter what. Because of it, I'll make many of my peers' lives somber out of my pleasure, especially those who pique me. There are four individuals on my list who I despise and are ready to be vanish out of my sight.
Going from bottom to top on the list, is Bianca Barclay, a siren who believes herself to be the best student in the entire academy. I see her as my opponent in fencing and botanical science. Third is Xavier Thorpe. First week of school was purgatory with him. He tends to follow me almost everywhere I go and will not be quiet in class as he distracts me with his mediocre drawings.
Same thing goes for Tyler Galpin which puts him at number two on the list. Although he isn't an artist like Xavier, his behavior is almost identical to his. According to Tyler, he's a Hyde who was lucky enough to be accepted in Nevermore because of his grade point average and a clean record. None of it matters to me since he is the biggest nuisance to ever exist. I assume both Thorpe and Galpin are plotting against me from how obsessed they are.
The last mortal that's number one on my checklist is none other than Enid Sinclair. Not only am I sharing two classes with the werewolf, I'm imprisoned in our divided bedroom with her. The worst part is the amount of brightly colored artifacts Enid has a grasp on. It forms a feeling of disgust and queasiness. Her vivacious character generally antagonizes me for the most part.
I distinguished her attempts to befriend me. Those who try, give up effortlessly. Enid is dissimilar. I must give her a small portion of credit. The she-wolf has a welcoming aura which gives me a familiar nostalgia. I can't recall where the sensation came from. What I do realize is that I will never apprise Sinclair about my thoughts. In no time, she'll blabber to her friends and the rest of the entire world about it.
"Hey Wednesday? Have you ever dated or been in love with someone?"
I paused myself from continuing on an assignment I was completing on my personal desk. My roommate and I are presently in our dorm after classes have finished. Straight away, I began my homework while Enid laid on her bed and pulled out her phone to view it.
Not bothering to turn around in my chair, I answered strictly, "No. Never have, never will."
"Seriously?" I can predict Enid was looking at me in a dumbfounded manner.
"It's nowhere near my top priority. In fact, it is nonexistent. I do not have the time nor any love inside of me to apply to someone else. I find it to be a waste of time and energy. It also includes feelings and physical touch that nobody will ever receive from me," I thoroughly explained.
"Wow. No wonder you push everyone away from you. Sounds to me like you would rather be alone," the lycanthrope figured me out.
"Exactly. I'll revert the question back to you," I was somewhat curious about Enid.
"I guess I have. I remember my mom once told me that I fell for someone at a young age. She never told me who it was, and eagerly, I tried figuring out who it may be. To this day, no luck," Sinclair sounded defeated towards the end.
After concluding her sentence, I eventually spun myself around my seat to give her my opinion on the situation she's in. However, my head decided against it. In a split second, I experienced an unforeseen pain that traveled across my forehead. I closed my eyes to relieve the pain but instead met with images that flashed through inside my mind. I first believed I was having an episode of where I was having a vision. That was not the case.
This time, it felt odd. Almost like I've been in the image before. I also heard a voice calling out my name and used the word love in the same sentence. The voice sounded like a child. But whose? As much as I enjoy pain, I placed a hand on my forehead and massaged it. Apparently, Sinclair was inspecting me when her worriness was made aware.
"Are you okay Wednesday?"
I opened my eyes, no longer hearing the voice or seeing the rapid picture floating in my head. Rather, Enid was prepared to cross over to my side until she stopped herself from passing the invisible line dividing our room. I had to set boundaries so the blue-eyed creature wouldn't be six feet underground.
She watched me with troubled eyes as I decided to covertly lie and say, "I'm fine. A headache is erupting no thanks to you."
"You could've told me something," the blonde girl had guilt written all over her face while seemingly buying my false statement.
"Well I did. Leave me alone so I can get my homework done. You should do the same instead of spending all day on your brain rotting device," I knitted my eyebrows towards the wolf.
"What a great way to encourage your roommate to do her assignments," Sinclair uttered satirically.
I turned back to my desk and declared, "If it means keeping you silent and busy."
"I might as well get it over with," the therianthrope was persuaded to finalize her work.
I didn't say anything back as Enid shuffled through her school bag in search of her homework. Finally, she had obtained the papers, went to her desk, and the room became inaudible in no time. Even so, I thought about what had happened a minute ago. It was strange that such a small spark of pain triggered a picture and voice in my head. Whatever occurred wasn't because of my ability. It's a possibility it could be a memory of mine.
As much as I wanted to decipher my personal predicament, there was peace being provided to me for the purpose of me concentrating my effortless work. I was able to complete all of the questions for every class I had in less than fifteen minutes. After I packed my stuff in my bag so I wouldn't have to later on, my ears picked up a groaning sound coming from my roommate who sat by her desk.
I found her aggressively erasing the answer she initially wrote down. The bright lycan bit her bottom lip with eyes stern and rereading the question she was stuck on. Then, she perked her head up quickly and stared at me while I gave her my usual gawk, not moving a limb from where I was. All of a sudden, an idea popped in Enid's head.
"You're super smart. Do you think you can help me with Thornhill's assignment?" She amiably asked, smiling.
"I do not help others with anything," I presented a grim impression.
"Oh come on roomie! I allowed you to beat me multiple times in fencing," Enid tried to reason with me.
"That's because your form is incorrect, and you tend to get distracted by Yoko goofing off in front of us. Therefore, our duel doesn't count as a real match," I rolled my eyes at the thought of the occurrence.
"Fine. Is there something you want from me so you can at least help solve three problems?"
What an unexpected turn of an event. I was quite thrown off at the fact Enid is willing to give up whatever I wanted from her. I took it as an advantage. I thought about her question for a moment until there was something I've been planning to do but haven't had the chance.
"Seeing that you are a werewolf, hunting down small animals would be no difficult task for you. I would want two different animals for my taxidermy fixation," I suggested a painless job.
"Woah, hold on. First of all, there is no way I'd kill anything. Second, I will literally pass out if I see blood. And third, I can't shift into a werewolf just yet," the she-wolf gave me multiple causes.
"You're not able to transform?" I gazed at the taller teen, puzzled.
"No. It's very embarrassing, I know. I'm just a late bloomer," the therianthrope rubbed her neck in shame.
I sighed without showing pity and simply said, "Deal is off unless you want to borrow my spring traps."
"Why do you have to be so cruel?" She pouted.
"It brings me to life."
The werewolf whined before giving in, "My grades matter to me, so I have to do whatever it takes to keep it up. I am definitely going to regret saying this, but I'll take the deal."
With that, she rose from her seat and held a hand out for me to seal the deal. I didn't bother to clasp my hand onto her own. Rather, my eyes flickered up and down to Enid's face and her hand. She got the hint that I did not desire to hold her extremity.
"I forgot you prohibit yourself from physical contact," she dropped her arm back to her side.
"Don't fail to recall it. Now get to work Sinclair. As you should know, I hate playing the waiting game when it comes to retrieving what I need," I mentioned instantly.
"Ugh! This will be the first and last time I will ever do something like this. Give me your traps so I won't have to murder any animal with my claws," Enid was on the verge of freaking out.
I nodded and went on to grab my snare hidden underneath my bed. I dragged it out and brought it over to my roommate, handing it to her. She held the trap up in a disturbed way with horror written on her face.
"I'm going to regret this deeply," the colorful girl whined.
She carried herself and the steel piece to the door, opening it. Once the blonde was out of my sight, I grabbed a piece of paper from my bag and sat down where Enid initially was. I looked through her homework from every class she took. None of them were started. Therefore, I began one by one, writing the answers on the blank sheet for Enid to copy when she gets back.
While marking solutions, the table suddenly vibrated, bringing me to a stop. I checked the surface to find a phone buzzing with the screen on. I don't have any knowledge about devices such as Enids, but curiosity got the best of me. I seized the technology and found words aligned in each long bubble. One of them stood out to me. It had my name on it.
Wondering what was being said about me, I tapped on the bubble, and it led me to a different screen. I wasn't positive about what I had done until I saw what appeared to be a discussion. As obvious as it was, the topic is me. The main person wrote a paragraph about how mischievous and murderous I am. They brought up my gruesome habits and offensive manners which they didn't approve of.
Below the passage were many comments adding on to the story of me being a criminal and a killer. There were a few that said I deserve to not have friends. Reading most of the statements didn't upset me in any way. I'm somebody who doesn't care about what others think of me. However, I found that Enid had replied to this individual's post. I was looking forward to her insults, except it was the complete opposite.
Sinclair was defending me as she wrote down, 'Even if Wednesday is batshit crazy, she's human and a shy one at that. The least you guys can do is avoid Addams if you're really afraid of her. All of you posting negative things about her are lucky enough that she doesn't have a phone to find out about this or else she would've mauled every single one of you by now.'
Never has anyone protected me with words. Enid is the first considering I'm the only one who would fend off idiots by myself. A small smirk appeared thanks to the wolf making those believe that I am in fact someone not to mess with. Furthermore, it caused an unfamiliar sensation in the empty pit of my stomach. Maybe I'm falling ill. Regardless, I chose to leave Enid's phone aside and finish her homework.
I managed to get the job done without a problem at a fast pace. Placing everything as it was on Enid's desk, I made a decision to give myself a break by having a drink in Jericho. I went to my side of the room and took my school bag with me before darting to the hallway. Closing the door behind me, I traveled across the halls and to the staircase. I headed down the steps and reached to the bottom of it.
From there, I strolled to the open quad. There were some students lingering with their peers or by themselves. Tragically, my darkened eyes discovered Xavier talking to somebody nearby. Aiming to steer clear of him, I pretended to not notice him. Yet, my plan failed. Just as I thought I'd be able to avoid Xavier, he caught me walking past him. I heard footsteps trailing behind while I was on the brink of attacking him.
"Hey Wednesday! Where are you going?" Thorpe annoyingly questioned once he was next to me.
"Continue to follow me, and I'll skin you like a fish," I divulged the boy viciously.
"Answer me, and I promise to leave you alone," the artist insisted as he followed me like a dog.
"Do not make promises if you don't intend to keep them, Thorpe."
"You got me there."
I nearly complained before replying monotonously, "Jericho."
"How long will you be out there for?" He had the nerve to come up with another question.
"I'm leaving," I had enough of being around my brainless classmate.
As I was walking away, I heard Xavier shout out, "I'm going into work at Weathervane in an hour! Hope to see you there!"
"I hope not," I grumbled underneath my breath.
Not looking back at the teen, I moved out of the quad and towards the open gate of Nevermore. Exiting school grounds, I found a shuttle bus waiting close by and made my way there. It would be the quickest method to get to Jericho.
——————————
Upon arrival at the town, I wasted no time approaching the café and bakery shop. This would be my second visit since I last came here four days ago. Entering Weathervane, my nose was overwhelmed by the smell of strong coffee beans and vanilla. I nearly detonated out of wrath when I saw another moron in my sight.
"Wednesday, hey! Never would I have thought you'd be here," Tyler smiled hugely.
"Wonderful. Another imbecile attempting to ravage my day," I gritted my teeth.
"Sorry I didn't catch that," Galpin claimed once I made it to the cash registers.
"Iced quad espresso," I didn't want to repeat myself and instead ordered a drink.
"Okay. Straight to the point. By the way, it's on the house," the Hyde boy added in my drink.
"Don't expect a 'thank you' from me," I declared in a deadly tone.
"Not at all Wednesday. And by the way, you look amazing today," the barista smirked openly.
"I won't hesitate to rip off your mouth and throw it in a barrel filled with acid," my patience was being tested.
I can't grasp the concept of whether Tyler is bantering or if he's being serious. Either way, I do not like it at all.
"I doubt you'd do something like that," the brown haired boy said teasingly as he went on to make my drink.
Holding myself back from climbing over the counter strangling him, I left the cashier and picked a booth to sit on. Firmly waiting, I stared out of the window and viewed the small scenery outside. Civilians were minding their own business, walking down the streets, and vehicles were driving by. A couple in particular stopped near the glass window where I was sitting next to.
Both were women nearly the same height who were facing each other. The one who is slightly taller raised both hands and held onto the face of the other who was crying. I watched as she gently wiped the tears away for her partner. The instant I saw the action take place, another pain surfaced in my head. This time, I envisioned myself tearing up. Also, I held onto what looked like crochet Nero.
There was someone else that tried comforting in the vision which made me feel relieved. I couldn't decipher the face, body, or voice. Though, I know in my black heart this was the person who gifted me my pet. The ache in my head and the picture disappeared when I felt a hand touch my left shoulder. Not hesitating, I gripped the wrist of the unknown person and just about twisted it to the point it would snap.
"Ow ow! I only came here to drop off your drink," Tyler winced.
Letting go of his hand, I told him, "Next time, leave my drink on the table instead of laying a hand on me."
"I'll keep that in mind," Galpin stated while he checked on his wrist.
Thankfully, he left me alone as I quietly sipped my cold beverage. Again, I had another episode of a random pain passing through my head and an image showing up for me to see. It's not a mere coincidence. There is a deeper meaning to it that I must follow and get a hold of. Whoever is this faceless individual appearing in my mind, they are most likely somebody who used to be close to me in theory. I need immediate answers.
——————————
I spent twenty minutes in the coffee shop before leaving without Tyler bothering me. I roamed around the main street and main square afterwards for another twenty minutes until I grew bored and rode back to the academy. The sun was almost out of sight as I made it across the quad and to Ophelia Hall. Going up the stairs and through the halls, I ultimately showed up in my shared room.
When I closed the door behind me, I found my bear trap on the floor of my side of the bedroom. Next to it was a white bed sheet tied like a garbage bag. I went to untie the knot on top and opened it to reveal a dead possum and a badger. These were great catches, and I was impressed how well Enid had done. Thinking about her, a door to her bathroom opened out of nowhere.
My eyes laid on the blonde when she came out with a towel around her neck and her hair damp. Enid had on a fresh pair of clothing she wears to sleep in. Noticing that I was back from my small adventure, my roommate beamed and stood close in front of me.
"Hi Wednesday! I hope you're okay with what I captured. I may or may not have cried three times and passed out after they were killed. I also stole a clean bed sheet from the laundry room right next door," Sinclair announced her activity.
"I didn't think you would complete the task I've given you. As far as what you brought me, they are more than okay in my eyes," I admitted to the she-wolf.
The lycan exclaimed joyfully, "I'm super duper happy to hear you say that! Looks like my suffering paid off. I definitely needed a shower after lingering in the woods for a while. Oh! And thank you for giving away the answers for all of my homework. You are the best!"
Out of the blue, Enid decided to nudge my shoulder in a friendly way. I stayed still as if my feet were glued to the floor while she skipped to her desk to finish her assignments. Not only did she touch my shoulder with her own, I certainly did not feel furious nor did I try to threaten the blue-eyed creature. Perhaps I'm too pleased with Enid's success that I chose to let it slide. It doesn't mean I'll let it happen continuously.
Once is enough for the werewolf. The next time it occurs, I will warn the therianthrope. Now that our dorm has become silent with Enid busying herself, I put away my soon-to-be taxidermy and chose to complete a few pages of my novel. Throughout the process, it took two hours before I began feeling exhausted. I halted and whirled to find Enid asleep. Wanting to do the same, I got myself ready for bed and landed on my mattress, letting slumber take me out.
Chapter 5: Woe Friend
Chapter Text
Enid Sinclair
Week two of school has begun, and the month of August is practically over. So far, my classes have gone steady without a lot of problems. I am used to the schedule and routine from the time I wake up to the specific hour I sleep. There are some days I adjust my procedures. However, I get back on track instead of falling behind.
There are some things that have changed compared to my past, day to day school life. The first would be having a new roommate and a friend. I know Wednesday doesn't think of me as anything other than a vibrant roomie and werewolf who cannot transform. But at least she hasn't tormented me. I'm grateful for being alive.
Secondly, I have another companion, Thing, who I can definitely talk to about everything. He helps me write in my vlog about any latest gossip or news. Thirdly, in two of my classes is a gorgon boy. His name is Ajax Petropolus who is awkward and bashful. Ajax and I started chatting after he and I were partnered up for fencing class. Afterwards, we got to know each other fairly well.
And lastly, I ended up in a situation where it led me to become an official member of a beekeeping club along with Wednesday. Everybody's final class was finished, and lunch came through. I had a big breakfast before my first class, so I wasn't hungry to eat. Neither was Wednesday when I came across her. Like a brave soldier, I bothered to ask if she wanted to tag beside me and stroll around campus.
"Is there a reason you're asking me to go with you?" The raven stared at me suspiciously.
"Nope! I thought it would be nice to take a walk with my best roomie since I have nothing better to do today," I smiled out of hopefulness.
"For your information, I'm your only roommate. Also, I have a feeling you're plotting something behind my back, Sinclair," she eyed me like a hawk.
I raised my hands in surrender and said, "Don't worry Wednesday. I wouldn't do such a thing to you."
Sighing in defeat, Wednesday responded, "Fine. Make our walk worth my time."
"Does that mean I get to entertain you?" I inquired.
"By entertaining me, does it involve rambling nonstop about rumors you've heard of?"
"Maybe," I simply answered.
"As long as it is about someone getting killed or hurt, I'm all ears," Addams made it clear what she wanted to hear.
Right as I began walking with Wednesday following my lead, I claimed happily, "Ooh! There's actually someone who broke their wrist by falling on it. I saw a picture of it all bruised and swollen. I ended up fainting from the sight of it."
"Intriguing. If you're willing to, I'd like to see the picture for research purposes," the goth wished to examine the injury.
"Sure thing!"
I pulled out my phone from my skirt pocket and searched through it to find the specific image. While looking down at my device, I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. Wednesday didn't warn me when I felt someone bump into me roughly, resulting in me dropping my phone. Thankfully, it landed on the grass instead of concrete.
"Oh shoot! I'm so sor-" the unknown person nearly apologized before stopping mid sentence.
Picking up my phone, I flickered my eyes to the voice belonging to a boy. His dark hair was very wavy and dark. He wore prescription glasses and metal retainers. Never have I seen him before and same goes for Wednesday as she didn't recognize the teenager. I was aware that he kept staring at me with his jaw dropped. I was wondering why.
As if he is a mind reader, he stated, "You're hot."
Taken back from the comment and unsure, I replied, "Thanks?"
"Oh. W-where are my manners? My name is Eugene Ottinger. And you are?" The boy introduced himself.
"I'm Enid and this my friend, Wednesday," I moved aside to showcase my roommate.
"Not pleased to meet you," Addams folded her arms.
"Nice to meet you both! Also, I'm sorry for bumping into you and dropping your phone," Eugene eventually apologized to me.
"It's fine. At least the screen didn't crack," I mentioned while observing my electronic.
"Good thing it functions. I'm yearning to see the agony this individual went through," the raven jogged my memory.
"Oh yeah. Here you go," I passed the phone over to Wednesday.
"What about agony?" The smaller boy pondered.
"Wednesday is obsessed with gory things. It almost sums up her lifestyle and personality," I indicated.
"Precisely," Wednesday agreed right away while staring at my phone.
"Cool! I do have an important question to ask you both. Is there a possibility that you both are willing to join the beekeeping club? I don't have any members who have joined although I am the president of the club. I can make one of you guys the vice president!" Ottinger held hopeful eyes.
"I definitely do not want to take a chance of being stung by multiple bees," I came up with a reason.
"I'd like to witness it," the gothic girl's expression turned amused as she gaped up to me.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't just hear that," I tiredly uttered.
"You don't have to worry about that. I have safety gear to prevent the bees from piercing your skin with their stingers. If anything, I have the psychic powers to command them to do whatever I want," his lips curled up, believing that I would join.
"What day or days would we meet?" Wednesday requested to know more information.
"Mondays and Fridays. All you gotta do is tend the bees like feed them, make sure they are in good health, stuff like that. I'll teach you both the basics, and you two will be beekeeper experts in no time."
Contemplating for ten seconds, I made a decision and declared, "I don't have much going on those specific days, so why not."
Throwing a fist up in the air, the beekeeper screamed out, "Yes! I finally have a girl joining my club. Ahem. Anyways, what about you Wednesday?"
"I suppose I shall join your club in hopes one of you gets stung," nonchalantly, Addams gave in.
"That's my roommate for you," I smirked knowing Wednesday is being serious.
"Another girl in my club. Never would I have thought this day would come," Eugene looked proud of himself.
"Do not plan to be flirtatious with Sinclair. Rather, do it to somebody else from a far distance where I cannot hear or see it," my dark haired friend had a piercing look.
"No worries. I know Enid is way out of my league. But we can be friends right?" The president of the beekeeping club glanced in my way.
"Absolutely. I've been working on meeting new people to be friends with. Wednesday here doesn't do friendships," I bumped my shoulder against hers gently.
"They're pointless," she straightforwardly disclosed.
"That's okay. I should get going. I need to extract some combs and replace them with new ones for the colony. It was nice knowing you, Enid and Wednesday," Eugene politely excused himself in a different direction while waving at us.
"You too," I waved back as Wednesday didn't.
"Have your device back. My satisfaction has been fulfilled because of the image," the psychic gave me my phone.
"I almost forgot about it, but thanks. The picture is a disturbing sight to see for me obviously," I turned off my phone and put it back where I had it.
"If blood was shown, you would faint in a flash," the raven pointed out.
"You know me so well as if we're best friends," I mischievously vocalized with a smug expression.
Gazing at Wednesday, she didn't have a reaction to my sentence. She didn't lash out or correct me about what came out of my mouth. As I laid my eyes on her for what felt like forever, Wednesday's usual cold stare softened to some degree. Something about her small action sparked a tingling sensation in my chest. I was about to apologize in case I hit a nerve until she mentioned something out of the blue.
"The day you went to gather roadkill was the same day I snooped through your phone. You left it on your desk while I completed your homework. I found my name on the screen and chose to look further into why it appeared. Turns out, outcasts have been discussing me. Not that I mind because their opinions are irrelevant. Then there was you who came to my defense without me even knowing about the situation beforehand. Why did you defend me?"
In taking the details Wednesday had laid out, I remembered that it is true I sent out messages to those who mock my roommate or underestimate her. Honestly, I was furious and felt it was not fair for people to talk bad about Addams without her being aware of it. I've been in those circumstances before, so I would not want Wednesday to go through what I went through.
Opening my mouth to speak, I admitted, "I was upset they had the nerve to be pieces of shit and say whatever they want about you. Being the supportive and protective friend I am, I always stand up to those who talk down about my companions. I wouldn't want you or anyone else to be on the same boat I was in from my past."
"Anyone can judge me, and I wouldn't mind. It's easy to dismiss what's being said about me whether it be positive or negative. And once again, we're not friends," Wednesday steadily glared at me.
"I'm friends with you, but you're not friends with me. And I am fine with that. I'll still continue to watch your back even if you don't have mine. You think that I'm wasting my time, but so what? I have plenty of time in the world if it means making someone happy or appeased," I held my head high to prove that I am being truthful to my words.
The goth acknowledged I was being sincere as she told me, "You do intend to keep your words, Enid. That's a trait you possess. You demonstrated to me that you truly have my back. However, I'm not acceptable to be friendship material. I never experienced it. Perhaps, I can."
"Wait! Are you saying that there's a chance you would want to change your mind and learn how to be friends with me?!" I latched onto her upper arms before she pulled away, leaving me to give her a quick apology.
"If I say yes, will you not shout out of thrill or go hysterical?" She let out a sigh of defeat.
Nodding crazily, I responded, "I won't."
"It's settled then."
I was ready to scream out to the world that Wednesday Addams was willing to give this friendship a shot, but I did my best to keep it in. I felt like I was on cloud nine hearing her concurring with the idea. I tried to sound calm and collected prior to speaking more about the new and confirmed mutual fellowship.
"Does this mean we can have sleepovers, paint our nails, and gossip about anything?" I held in my excitement although my eyes are likely twinkling.
"I would need to do some research before confirming that we can commit those activities," Wednesday enlightened back.
"You got it!" I beamed sweetly to her.
Again, her eyes relaxed once more. It made me shudder considering that I hardly see her at ease. I noticed she's beginning to feel a little more comfortable around me. I began thinking Wednesday will trust me further as time flies by. As for myself, I am accustomed to my roommate's weird lifestyle. She may conceivably adjust to me, and I'll wait patiently for it to happen.
"Enid! I thought I recognized you from a distance."
I spun around to see who the voice belonged to that called out my name. It was Ajax who advanced toward us from fifteen feet away. I was surprised to see him in a spot where there's barely any students roaming.
I greeted, "Hey Ajax. I didn't notice you were hanging around here."
"Actually, I was looking for you," the gorgon scratched the back of his head anxiously, ignoring that Wednesday is by my side.
"Oh. You were? What for?" I was curious as to what he wanted me for.
"I-I was wondering if we can hang out today in Jericho. That is, if you're not busy," Petropolus wondered what I'd say to his invitation.
"Yeah, why not. Would you like to tag along with us, Wednesday?" I turned my head to see if the psychic would want to go.
"I prefer not to depart with you both," the raven divulged, holding her stare onto the boy.
"Are you sure?" I wanted to know if her decision is what she really wants.
"Yes, I am. I will be working on my novel. Thing will keep me company, wherever he is," Wednesday now flickered her pitch black eyes to me.
"Okay then. Maybe you should research what friendships are before or after typing your book," I suggested a plan.
"I'll think about it," my roomie's voice sounded less harsh than normal along with her facial expression being modified.
Somehow, my heart did a backflip because of it which caused me to grip Ajax by his clothing and saying frantically, "Okay! See you later!"
Tugging the snake haired boy away, I caught on that my heart was beating quicker than normal. I didn't understand what was happening to me. Not to mention my face started heating up. Letting go of my friend next to me, I did my best to cool down before he would question me about it. Luckily, he didn't.
"Wednesday is something else," Ajax broke the silence.
"What do you mean?" I tilted my head.
"She's pretty weird, scary, and freaky. Did you hear she blew up a bathroom at her old school? Not to mention Wednesday filled a kid's locker with spiders."
"I actually did hear about that through my vlog," I knew what he meant.
"It's pretty crazy in my point of view," my classmate concluded.
"Wednesday is like that. So far, she hasn't caused any problems at Nevermore. She might've changed," I shrugged my shoulders.
"I hope you're right. Enough about her, I want to know what's your usual order from Weathervane because that's where we are going," Ajax smiled to lighten the mood.
"I'm not a big fan of coffee, but I do get fruit tarts and jelly filled donuts," I addressed back.
"I never tried fruit tarts. Jelly filled donuts I have," Petropolus stated.
"You should really try it. It's the best thing I have ever tasted!"
"You have me convinced."
——————————
On my way to the academy with Ajax, I found our hangout to be fun. Him and I had a great time making each other laugh, talking about school, and stopping by a few stores to shop. I ended up buying something that I believe Wednesday would like. For an odd reason, I kept thinking about her most of the time. It could be that I miss her. I guess that's what having a friendship does to you.
When my schoolmate and I showed up to Nevermore, we went to our own assigned halls. Entering through Ophelia Hall, I walked upstairs and traveled down the hallways with two bags in hand. Opening the door to my shared dormitory, Wednesday and Thing were reading a book on her bed. I was in awe at the sight of the two bonding together.
They both peeked over the novel to find me standing by the door with a tender smile. Thing waved at me as my roommate solely evaluated my face and bags that I am carrying. I gestured back and gave Wednesday a small hi before heading to my mattress to set the bags down.
Rummaging through the items inside to search what I bought for Addams, I heard her proclaim, "I expected you to arrive very late with your gorgon friend."
"Did you want me to stay out with him longer?" I interrogated.
"Yes and no. Yes, since the dorm would be peaceful. No, because I cannot fathom a few pursuits listed here that friends do to build a stronger connection," Wednesday threw out her answers.
I snickered at the response before replying, "I can help you with that just like you helped me with my homework. But first, I got you a gift that I wanna give you."
Taking out the present from the bag, I went to the invisible line dividing our room and displayed it to her. She tossed the book aside and came over to see what I was holding.
"I bought you a wooden target to fling some darts or arrows that I got as well," I described, hoping she would like it.
"I prefer to use knives as darts to throw, but these will suffice. I... owe you my gratitude," she drawled while grabbing her gift.
"You're welcome, Wednesday," I grinned from ear to ear now that it is confirmed my friend liked what I purchased.
Looking down on the floor, I saw Thing signing, What about me? Where's my reward for being the best of friends?
Eyes were rolled from the psychic as I laughed and told him, "I have something for you actually."
I went to my bed and fetched his present in the bag. Going back to the middle of the room, I squatted down to reveal the object.
"Here's clothing to keep you warm now that it is starting to get cold. And a bottle of the finest lotion to keep yourself soft and smooth," I handed Thing a lotion container and a glove that will fit.
Thank you so much! You are a lifesaver! I knew you were my best friend, the hand signaled me joyfully.
"You are very welcome, Thing," I was smiling more than ever.
Seeing the two Addams feel thankful for what I got brought out so many beneficial emotions. Especially when it came to the raven thanking me for the first time, there is a huge potential of our friendship blossoming. Wednesday and Thing might be the best thing that has happened to me up to this point. I'm looking forward to more days with them along the way.
Chapter Text
Wednesday Addams
"Okay. So, what I usually do is extend my nails to lather them completely with whatever color nail polish I pick. Most of the time, I stick with the same colors for each nail. It all depends on the mood," Enid explained thoroughly.
Currently, the sky is pitch black with the bright moon hovering the world. I was listening and paying attention carefully to what the werewolf was describing and showing me. I sat on the floor across from her, bored out of my mind with our pajamas on. We remained on our sides of the bedroom with varieties of nail polish colors next to Enid.
"My mood will always be black and dark," I plainly mentioned to my roommate.
"I figured you would say that. Which is why I bought you a black moon nail polish. It's very special and rare to own," the bubbly girl flashed a smile as she displayed the bottle.
"What's so special about it?" I quirked a brow.
"It's extra extra dark like pitch black. It cost me a lot, but buying this is worth it now that I get to paint your nails."
"You're quite dense for wasting money on pointless products," I casually stated without a care in the world.
"You only live once. Not to mention you unnecessarily buy a shit ton of weapons for your own personal satisfaction," the blonde rambled.
"My weapons are used for defending and harming. Unlike the nail polish, it's used for coloring fingernails. There's no purpose for it."
"You got me there," the lycanthrope raised her hands in surrender.
Nearly feeling a smug approach on my face from winning the quarrel, I continued on, "Although there's no purpose in my opinion, there is one for you. That is by consuming time with me, painting my nails. You gain enjoyment."
"Y'know, you're pretty good at reading and understanding people. Do you normally take the time to analyze everyone deeply?" Enid interrogated as she unscrewed the cap of the bottle filled with polish.
"No. I do not care enough to know information about unknown individuals," I nonchalantly blurted out.
"You cared enough to acknowledge me," Sinclair smirked slyly.
Looking away because of shame, I replied back, "Keep your mouth closed and start painting my nails."
"Your wish is my command Addams," the blue eyed creature took my minor warning to heart.
Not batting an eye in Enid's way, I sensed her warm hand gently grab ahold of my own. Pulling it towards her lap, I suddenly felt a blob of polish touching my fingernails. Side eyeing the she-wolf, I discovered the look of concentration presented on her face. Enid took the time to slather the color of each nail with precision. It took less than five minutes to finish one hand before moving on to the other.
I allowed my fingers to air dry while I decided to stare at the window next to us instead of focusing on my roommate's every movement. I did my best to think about wicked circumstances in my mind, but it mysteriously reverted straight to the softness and tender hand that held onto mine. My eyes wavered side to side in shock until Enid took notice.
"You okay there, Wens?" Her voice was filled with concern.
My eyes stopped moving from the unexpected nickname I heard. I turned to glance at the girl who remained latching my hand even after finishing covering my fingernails in black. Wondering what to say, the therianthrope rubbed the back of my hand with her thumb to take away whatever was bothering me. I cannot comprehend what type of magic she inflicted me with, but it somehow soothed me.
I pulled my hand back from my roommate, disgustingly missing the warmth.
I then responded to her question and sent one back, "I'm perfectly fine. What's with the new nickname?"
"Oh that? It slipped out like nothing. The nickname came to my mind all of a sudden and out of my mouth," the colorful wolf shrugged her shoulders.
For an unknown reason, the nickname sounded familiar to me, as if I heard someone use the name on me before. Neither of my ghastly family use nicknames revolving around my name. Hearing it from Enid caused an itch to my brain.
"Intriguing. I assume that is what friends do?" I lifted an eyebrow with curiosity.
"Yup! For example, I sometimes call Yoko just Yok. Nicknames are easy to come up with that shortens our name or sounds similar to it. For starters, how about you come up with a nickname for me?" Sinclair sat up straight as if preparing to hear the new name I would provide her.
"Enid Sinclair is enough for me to pronounce. I believe nicknames are rather something in your element. Not mine."
Deflating, Enid muttered, "I guess so."
"Seems like you're quite the expert in painting nails. Not a single smudge or streak landed on my cold skin," I changed the subject, carefully observing my fingernails to not see any errors made.
"Thanks! I have been painting my claws since I was a pup. I had no one to do it for besides Yoko when we found each other three years ago. My mom thought it was ridiculous for me to color them. I think otherwise. It helps me cope through hard times and forget the reality I'm in sometimes," the blonde girl shared a vulnerable moment.
"It's a hobby of yours to distract yourself from whatever torment you are experiencing. I commit to torments as a hobby. However, I recommend pointing out whoever agonizes you so I can fulfill my torturous desires on them," I hoped to execute my own hobby soon.
"I really appreciate that, Wednesday. However, I wouldn't go too far with what you have in mind when it comes to torturing people."
"I'm only doing it for my own satisfaction. Don't get your emotions twisted into one huge knot," I vocalized in a way Enid would believe my words.
"Understandable. Regardless, it's thoughtful of you to do that for me. Something that friends would do to look out for one another. You know, I think you're starting to get the hang of this friendship stuff without even trying hard," the she-wolf's face brightened up with exhilaration.
Giving her a dead stare, I uttered, "Whatever keeps your mind at ease. Now that you completed your own form of torture on me, I shall return to my writing duty."
"Okay. Oh and don't worry! I promise not to bother you. I'll be doing my nightly scroll on my phone," the therianthrope gathered her nail polishes before happily walking to her bed.
"As long as you keep the noise down," I rose from the floor and went to my desk where my typewriter is already set.
"That won't be a problem."
Accepting the answer, I sat down on the chair and went on to reread where I left off to begin the paragraph. Afterwards, I had enough information to start typing away sentences manifesting in my head. From one sentence to the middle of the next chapter, I had felt it was enough to halt my fingers constantly pushing the keys. I was pleased with my progress when I can finally rest for school tomorrow. My legs brought me to my bed when my eyes landed on Enid asleep with her arm hanging on the edge.
Her device had fallen on the floor under the dangling limb. I noticed her slightly drooling which made me roll my eyes at the sight. Even so, I despise the fact my icy, black heart wanted to run after her. It frankly made my body flinch and my eyes go wide at the idea. It's pathetic and not my usual self. I went as far as letting her paint my nails and caress my hand. I will not allow it to go any further. Enid will depict me as a soft person, and I cannot let it happen. Not under my watch.
——————————
The next day started as I prepared myself for classes. The worst part about school is the abundance of students passing through to reach their classes. A lot of which they would bump into me numerous of times, the perks of being short and also adjusting to my devious ways. I made a plan when all of my classes are over, I figured I would take a walk around campus to find secret paths with less people traveling to avoid contact. Heading to my botanical class, I unfortunately stumbled upon Xavier who rapidly ran to my direction like a dog seeing their owner.
"Wednesday! Hey! Thought it would be nice if we could walk together since we have the same class," Thorpe beamed happily at the sight of me.
"Unfortunately, I didn't have time to avoid you before your eyes caught me here," I said with an annoyed voice.
"Can't a friend walk with you to class?" The painter tried to lure me to feel guilt which failed miserably.
"I don't recall being companions, Thorpe. More like a leech by my side that I wish to get rid of instantly," I nearly gritted my teeth.
"Ouch. Can you at least be a little less harsh?" Xavier repeated the same technique to make me feel pity for him.
With great relief came my roommate who was spotted near my obnoxious classmate and I.
"No offense Xavier, but you should know by now how Wednesday acts. I adjusted enough to where I'm not really fazed by her threats or insults anymore. Maybe try accepting and getting used to Wednesday's personality for starters?" Enid seemed slightly irritated at the boy.
"Well that's because you need to endure it everyday knowing that she's your roommate. Besides, I'm trying to get her to soften up. Surely, she'll crack," Xavier couldn't help but smirk at me.
"It will be an impossible task for you to complete then. No one has ever seen emotions or physical gestures emerge out of me. Not that it will happen anytime soon. I lack sentiment," I made my point clear.
"She's not wrong. Anyways, shouldn't we be heading to class? We have five minutes left. Oh and during those five minutes, allow me to talk about how cute some of these boys are that I met," Sinclair fully turned to my direction, throwing in a wink for me to catch.
Seeing her bat just one eye eased me for a moment considering I didn't want to hear her blabber my ears off about boys. On the other hand, Xavier didn't seem too fond of the idea of making his ears bleed from Enid's mouthful torture.
"I'll just leave. See you both in class," Xavier flashed me his uncharismatic smile before taking his leave.
As he was further away from us, the wolfling broke the short silence, "Hopefully that wink was telling enough to show I was being sarcastic."
"Good. I would've walked with Thorpe if you weren't. Although, you did manage to rescue me from that hovering nuisance. The best part is having several minutes to search for a hidden pathway to avoid everyone when I go to botanics."
"Oh! Good thing you say so because I take a trail for me to wander without everybody being shoulder to shoulder. You and I can take it together," the thrilled girl had the idea.
"I really meant what I said about avoiding everyone. That includes you," I folded my arms as I calmly said.
"Oh... okay. Got it," Enid's smile held some firmness to it, keeping it from dropping.
I can tell from her voice she is devastated and despaired with what I told her. She tried not to appear as a kicked puppy left abandoned on the side of a street. Witnessing the lycan keeping the facade on made my heart and guts feel like someone is gripping them as forcefully as they can to pop the organs. It was the feeling of guilt creeping up to me, and I had to make it stop. It's highly rare for me to get the sensation of it, and I am beyond appalled that Enid got me to feel this way.
"I suppose with your help, I can permit you to come along with me unaccompanied by your crazed ideology of gossip," I chose to be a bit thoughtful towards the therianthrope.
Her face lit up quickly as she happily remarked, "Really? That's so sweet of you Wens. I'll be sure to not go overboard with my stories and rumors. I do believe I deserve a reward for aiding you, don't you think?"
"Such as?" I questioned, ignoring the nickname and comment she made.
"Whatever you want to give me," Enid plastered a gentle grin not anyone could pull off.
Jokingly, I fluently replied, "I will offer you a torture device to use on your enemies."
Her face changed to a terrified one as she stammered out, "A-Actually, I think I'm okay without being rewarded. How about we just walk to class?"
"Lead the way."
Enid nodded and directed me to a secretive dirt path on the opposite side of the walkway I normally go to. Indeed, she was correct about the route being quite empty once we carried on to our destination. This is the first time I'm peacefully sauntering in school like I accomplished in the woods during my free time. A bonus is my roommate keeping her lips sealed throughout our walk. The thought of her doing so made me feel good. What's worse is that I've gotten used to her chattering nonstop to the point where I almost miss it.
My thoughts are becoming tragic for unknown reasons about Enid, and I feel as though I'm slowly turning into a humane monster. My nonexistent emotions are becoming insufferable no thanks to her. Everyone who tries to be acquainted with me is difficult to deal. However, the werewolf is special. I can't put my finger on how she is out of the ordinary to me. The prime thing I can do is observe her behavior and tactics that lead me to feel. Not to mention I've been contemplating the blurry memories suddenly entering my head. They're nowhere near like the dreadful visions I receive of pure tragedies. Thankfully, I can multitask on solving both my undefined emotions and memories.
In the meantime, Enid and I have arrived at our classroom where I want to put a bullet through my head because of Xavier. Not to mention Bianca is in a competition to one-up me when answering questions. The same goes for fencing as most of my classmates from botanicals are in the same class with me. What I normally look forward to is sparring and unleashing my frustrations, lending me victories after victories. Enid remembered our little competition and was prepared to duel me. Seeing as she's a beginner with her improper posture and tensed muscles, I easily won three matches.
Lifting the face cover off to reveal her face, she blissfully declared, "You weren't kidding when you said you were unbeatable."
"Of course not. My parents taught me well enough at a young age to defeat anyone in fencing," I mentioned after removing my face mask.
"Your parents did a great job teaching you from what I can tell," the she-wolf said in a proud manner.
I wasn't able to form a response as our fencing teacher alerted us to head back to the locker rooms when class is near its end. Doing so, I swiftly changed and gathered my belongings before darting out the facility. I had other classes to attend which became a blur by the time I got through them. I went straight to my dorm where I found Thing comfortably taking a nap on my pillow. Going to my desk, I took an hour of doing homework which worked out on my end.
By the time I organized my papers away, I glanced at Thing, who was already awake.
I told him, "I'm taking the bus into Jericho to seize a pastry at Weathervane. If Enid asks where I have gone, tell her that I'm near the lake at Raven Island. Make sure she's not heading there either."
Okay? Thing was confused about what I am plotting.
I turned away and left Ophelia Hall to travel to the bus stop. Patiently waiting, the bus made it where I entered and stared out the window until the vehicle halted at Jericho. Without wasting time, I briskly strolled into the small town when I rounded around the block to find Weathervane open. What I despise about the cafe is Tyler being there. I knew Xavier is the least of my worries as he tends to not approach me a lot while working. Galpin, on the other hand, cannot keep his existence away from mine.
"Hey Wednesday! Welcome," I heard Tyler's voice the moment I displayed myself in the bakery.
Going up to the counter, I demanded right away, "Fruit tart with extra chocolate drizzle and rainbow sprinkles on top. I'm taking it to go."
"Oh. That's not your usual. Fruit tart with extra chocolate and sprinkles doesn't seem like your cup of tea," the hyde looked at me weirdly.
"Don't ask," I glared at the barista, not wanting to waste my breath.
I set the money on the counter to pay as he took it willingly and proceeded to give me my change back.
"Your order will be ready shortly."
I didn't bother to say anything back to Tyler, not in the mood at all to have a conversation with him. He sort of got the hint and made the fruit tart like I asked. It took a minute before Tyler put it in a container and placed it in a paper bag.
Handing it to me, Tyler asked, "When will you be back to come see me?"
"Hopefully never," I grabbed the bag and left in a hurry.
I wasn't able to hold myself from rolling my eyes harshly at the idiot. I didn't bother to come to Weathervane just to chat with each other. I have an important mission at hand to finalize. Not like I would want to talk to Tyler. He means nothing to me like everybody else. I carried the bag with care when traveling on foot from the bus stop to Nevermore. There, I walked through the halls of the dorm rooms until I stumbled across mine and Enid's. Opening the door, my roommate was seen on her bed with Thing listening to music on her phone. It was then she paused the music when she heard me arrive.
"Hi roomie! Thng told me you went off to the lake near Raven Island for no reason. Thought it was suspicious but I can clearly see you went to Jericho. I recognize the Weathervane bag easily. What's in it?"
"I lied for a good reason. Open it," I gave her permission to see what I purchased for her.
Enid left her bed to come to me and took it without thought to pull the cardboard container out. Opening the lid to unveil the pastry, her mouth opened out of shock and puzzlement.
"Wha-"
I interrupted before she had the chance to say her sentence, "This is your reward for discovering a path with the lack of outcasts around. I requested your favorite concoction to be added on the fruit tart knowing the sugary cravings you get from time to time."
"Y-You... you didn't have to," her facial expression turned gentle with lingering unpredictability.
"Exactly. Don't bother telling anyone about this, or I will suffocate you in your sleep," I threatened knowing my words had no effect on her.
"I know, Wens. Thank you. Truly. I honestly don't have much words to say on how grateful I am for you giving me this," Sinclair revealed a sincere fangy smile with tender eyes.
Again, this is the same predicament I was in yesterday. Promptly, my heart felt ready to burst like a time-ticking bomb. Additionally, I feel like I'm being pushed towards Enid to get as close as possible. I could've sworn the world stopped with my eyes gazing solely on the blue-eyed beast. With this moment, I uncovered what makes my emotions run high.
"Don't expect to be rewarded by me with your good deeds," I brought myself back to reality.
"Sure thing!" Enid kept beaming as she carefully took a bite of the tart.
Now that I know what's causing my issues, I need to find a way to prevent it from happening again without Enid suspecting a single thing. If I don't find a cure, surely I am doomed.
Notes:
Hey everyone! I'm still alive. Apologies for the lack of chapters and updates. I lost motivation by the time I had a busy schedule I needed to prioritize. Luckily, I have some free time to write and make new chapters for you guys although a chapter or two will come out each week. I know Wednesday season two came out, but this story will be stuck in a setting of season one. I suggest reading from the start to catch up and memorized what occurred. Thank you for your patience
Chapter Text
Enid Sinclair
Today is Friday which I'm super stoked for. It's the beginning of the weekend, and I look forward to doing a few adventurous activities. One of them is finally joining Eugene's bee club and checking out what it is about.
"So, I bumped into Eugene this morning before school started. He exchanged information by giving me a flyer all about the club. I read the important parts like what time it starts and what to expect during the thirty minutes we will be in there," I informed Wednesday while we made our way to fencing class.
"It's feasible he'll remember the exchange of words about not courting you as he has less than one percent chance of succeeding," Wednesday recalled back to when we first met him.
Listening to her say that made me speculate whether she is annoyed by him or protective of me. If it's the second option, I will rupture out of joy. My roomie is the best!
"That's the first time someone had a crush on me. It's kind of surprising actually. Eugene is the first to let it be known."
There's no telling who else had a crush on me during my elementary and middle school days. I thought about it for a split second when the same sensation came back to my head. The feeling of pounding and honed, electrified pain rushed through the entirety of my skull. I grimaced my face and avoided facing Addams for her to see my discomfort. I squeezed my eyes shut when voices I don't recognize popped into my head.
"I... I have a crush on you..."
"I... I like you too."
I opened my eyes and recoiled enough where I took a step back. The pain went away the moment I wasn't hearing anyone speak during my little episode. I drew in some air loud enough for Wednesday to stop her tracks and look at me wary, about my sudden action. I took notice of her opening her mouth to say something when someone caught our attention behind us.
"Yo! Enid! Wait up!"
Startled at my name being called, I mentally calmed myself down to appear normal so that nobody would question my random behavior. Both the raven and I whirled around to see Ajax hurriedly stepping to us. Before he neared us, I could hear Wednesday scoff at the boy before moving her eyes to a different direction.
"Ajax! What a pleasant surprise," I immediately smiled as to not cause any suspicion.
"I know right! I'm glad I ran into you near the quad. I wanted to know if you'd like to partner up for fencing. Xavier is okay, but I thought I can switch it up sometimes by pairing up with you if that's okay?" The gorgon politely queried.
"Oh. Uh, yeah, sure. Why not," I didn't want to be rude by telling him the opposite answer.
"Okay, cool. Would you—I don't know—walk together to class?" Ajax shrugged his shoulders before shoving his hands in his long sleeve pockets.
"Ah, actually-"
"I have somewhere to attend to quickly before class begins. Don't bore yourself waiting for me," Wednesday didn't allow me to finish speaking as she took off rushed and aggressively.
Seeing her storm off didn't help that I was feeling responsible for doing something wrong. I wanted to tell Ajax that maybe next time we can walk to class together as I was walking with Wednesday today. Thinking back to what she said, I doubt she would miss telling me about what she needs to attend to before fencing. She would've told me beforehand, and I would offer to go with her.
"Yeah, she's definitely weird. I don't really understand how you can handle her being your roommate. It must be hard and chilling sharing the same room as Wednesday," Ajax commented about Addams as we began heading to our next class.
"I've grown used to it bit by bit. So far, she hasn't hurt a fly, surprisingly. Her ultimatum can be serious and fearful at times. But Wednesday does have boundaries like everyone else does. Get on her good side and nothing bad will happen to you," I did my best to make my roommate seem like a decent person to be around.
"Your roommate hates everyone. I bet she's planning on destroying the entire school. It's no wonder she got kicked out of her last school for almost killing a guy. It makes me afraid of her," the Petropolus boy shuddered at the thought of Wednesday.
Not for me.
"I think she would prefer to be feared anyway. In any case, how did you do on Thornhill's pop quiz?" I asked my classmate.
"I managed to get a four out of five. How about you?" He switched the question back to me.
"Same here. It's a good start to keep my grades up for our first semester," I acknowledged.
"I agree."
We continued communicating to each other for the remainder of the passing period to talk about our classes. It was until we arrived outside of the locker room with two minutes left to spare. The good thing about fencing is that we have six minutes to put on our safety attire before the actual class kicks off.
"So before we go our separate ways, I was wondering if you'd like to hang out on Monday. There's a food festival happening in Jericho and thought this could be the opportunity to invite you to check it out together. Not to mention it would be good to properly get to know each other," the snake-haired teen proposed a friendly date.
I was slightly baffled that he wanted us to hang out more. He's the first guy to actually want to spend some time with me. I'm not too opposed to it. I think it would be nice to earn more friends.
Therefore, I replied, "Why not. Sounds like fun."
"Awesome. I'll give you details the next time I see you," Ajax's face lit up at my answer.
"Okay," I nodded as I watched him go inside the boy's locker room.
I stayed there for a few seconds when I felt a finger tapping my left shoulder. Flinching at the touch, I spun around to see Wednesday with her eyes hardened at me and folding her arms.
"Informing you to not wait for me clearly didn't insert that small head of yours," the raven voiced out of anger.
"Actually, I was just watching Ajax go into the boy's locker. You just happened to arrive at the same time he left," I gestured at the door then averted my eyes back to the pigtailed girl.
"Seems like you snagged a new companion. That gorgon boy has taken an interest in you," Wednesday did not sound too pleased at our classmate.
"Ajax is harmless. He's friendly and pretty cool. I think it's nice to have another friend, especially a guy," my grin grew as Wednesday remained still as a stone.
"Being associated with others will lead you to waste time and energy that leaves you without benefits," the grim girl thought negatively.
"If that's what you believe, Wens. You know... you and Yoko benefit me so much. You guys make me feel like I can be myself. You may judge my looks or personality, but you don't bother to try and force me to change. I see that as the greatest benefit I can receive from you," I wholeheartedly spilled to my roommate.
Wednesday was taken aback by my subtle response. I saw a small detail shift in her eyes as it widened hardly enough you would miss it when not paying attention. Her shoulders that were once stiff seemed relaxed. She even ended up dropping her arms to the side. I desperately wanted to drop my jaw at the sudden vulnerability the psychic was experiencing.
I kept my composure and stayed still until she said one word, "Touché."
Her head turned to the side to gawk at anything but me. Her mouth is clenched from the way her jawline came off as sharp. I wasn't sure if my eyes were deceiving me, however, I saw her right cheek to be tinted red. I was so memorized by her side profile that the bell ringing thankfully brought me back to my original state.
I cleared my throat, feeling an intense tingling sensation to my chest as I spoke, "We should get ourselves ready for fencing. Don't want Coach Vlad to lecture us."
Wednesday nodded in agreement before we entered the girl's locker room together. I knew the routine to get ready for class, putting my gear on, and waiting in the fencing room for Vlad to direct us through the lesson of the day. Because of my decision, Ajax partnered up with me the entire time we were in class. Whenever Yoko got the chance, she would nudge my shoulder and lift her eyebrows up and down to the gorgon and I. Of course, I whirled my head side to side in disapproval of what the vampire was trying to hint at.
Ajax is cute and comes off as a shy guy. Though, I can't see myself dating him. There's a lot I don't know about him, and we've barely started this small friendship. I hope we can stick to being friends. Speaking of friends, I haven't forgotten about Eugene and his beekeeping club. After all of my classes were over, I luckily found Wednesday in our dorm talking to Thing. The two stopped and focused on me when I happily skipped to the Addams' side.
"Sorry Thing, but Wednesday and I have a club to attend to," I apologized to the hand for barging in the room.
"You haven't filled me in the time Eugene's club begins," Wednesday drawled.
"Well, it starts in fifteen minutes, but I thought it would be nice to get there early. What do you think?"
"I suppose we can flee. Thing. Make sure to evaluate my cello for any flaws before I get back," the dark brunette instructed the limb.
Thing gave her a thumbs up in response. That was our cue to take our leave. I opened the door for Wednesday and I exited and closed it behind us. Going downstairs, I led us to where the club is placed. It was on the opposite side of campus from Ophelia Hall, so it became quite a walk. I didn't mind thanks to how chatty I am when it comes to gossip and never ending classes. Knowing the goth, I did my best to tone it down and talk about other stuff she was hopefully interested in.
Fortunately, we spotted a shack with a small path ahead of us with a sign that said Welcome Hummers. There were bees designed around the wooden shed which I found to be a nice touch. Although, it wasn't helping the fact I am somewhat nervous because I'm not a big fan of bugs that have stinges attached to them.
"Let's get this over with," Wednesday boringly stated.
Grabbing the hatch, I swung it open where my roommate and I went in to find Eugene fully geared up. Noticing our appearance, the bee boy brightened with joy at the sight of us.
"You guys made it! And early too," Eugene smiled wide to the extent it almost looked painful.
"You can give your gratitude to Enid. I want to see her suffer at the mere glance of the bees," the raven pointed out.
All I could do was pout at her cruel words.
"Either way, you're both here. I have two bee suits and hats with veils to prevent you from getting stung. You guys can put it on over your clothes," the young teen handed over the attires to get dressed in.
Wednesday and I didn't waste any time to put them on. Within two minutes of getting the suit and hat on, we are ready to begin.
"Thanks for joining the club and welcome! You guys will now be known as hummers. Starting off with a small insight, all bees have duties to perform such as guards, hunters, and caregivers. Altogether, it's a whole society in one hive," Ottinger gave us details about the insects.
"Like a miniature cult," the psychic commented.
"I guess you could say it's almost similar to a cult. There is a queen who runs everything in the beehive," Eugene tried to go along with Wednesday.
"So a cult leader?" Addams remarked in a questioning way.
I nearly chuckled at Wednesday's comparison of a cult to a beehive. I thought it was endearing of her to suddenly participate in the club fairly quickly.
"You can put it that way. Anyways, I have frames filled with bees you two can check out. Over here is where I have a majority of them. Take a look," Eugene took us over to a hive in the corner of the shack.
He opened it enough to reveal what looked like hundreds of bees humming and crawling everywhere. The moment I hovered my head over the hive, I quickly shivered at the sight of the furry bugs. Wednesday, on the other hand, seemed amused.
"One sting leads to their ultimate fate. Anyone allergic to bees can turn into a double homicide," my eerie friend mentioned relentlessly.
"I think I'm going to hurl at the picture that popped up in my head from hearing you say that," I grimaced at the unpleasant imagery.
"To get over your fear, how about you hold a frame, Enid," the short boy carefully lifted one out and offered it to me.
I tensed up easily, feeling squeamish about holding the hive structure with bees that can crawl on me. As much as I don't want to, he is right about getting over my fear. Plus, I want to impress Wednesday by not becoming a coward. Hesitantly, I raised my hands up to grab the frame from Eugene's hand. Not even a second went by and bees were flying around and walking on my arms. I did my best to hold my composure to not stir any panic. Tragically, I was doomed no thanks to Eugene.
"There's something I forgot. I'll be right back," Eugene ran out of the shed to retrieve a forgotten item.
Nearly all the blood drained out of my face when he left. Meanwhile, Wednesday grabbed a frame of her own to inspect like nothing. I wanted to whimper since I didn't know what to do with the frame other than holding it. Taking in a deep breath to keep myself calm and collected, I examined the bees and the combs they built. I thought about positive things about the insects like how much they developed honey and how hard working they are. Slowly seeing the good things about bees made me relax.
"This isn't so bad. I'm surprised at how light the frames are. The bees hum like crazy. No wonder Eugene calls us Hummers. It makes total sense," I beamed at the genius idea Eugene had.
"It appears you're making progress to overcome your fears of bees. I made a wager with Thing you wouldn't last long in here. You proved me wrong," the pale girl admitted with an unfazed expression.
"Of course you would make a bet with Thing based on me. Sorry you lost though. What did you guys bet on?" I was nosy on what the two decided on.
"Whoever won gets to command anything to the loser for two whole days," Wednesday scoffed at the thought of being ordered around to do tasks from Thing.
I was shocked both of them had the guts to make the gamble. But at least they had placed the odds on me.
"Okay! I am back! I have honey in a jar that I grabbed from the hives for you guys to try. Here are two spoons to taste," Eugene appeared with a jar and spoons he placed on a table.
He took the frame from Wednesday and I to put it back as we went to grab the silverware to taste test the honey. Twisting the lid open, we scooped a spoonful of the substance and each tried it to come up with an answer on how the flavor is.
"Wow! This is pretty tasty and sweet. I might have to steal some from you, Eugene. What do you think Wednesday?" I gazed at the raven to see what she thought of.
"I prefer it with a mixture of poison to satisfy my tastebuds," her typical disturbing statement was said.
"You are impossible, Wednesday Addams," I gently nudged my roommate on her shoulder, giving her my soft smile.
I couldn't help but notice the tiniest twitch of a smirk tugging at her lips. Towards the end of the club, we got ourselves out of the bee gears and bid our goodbyes to Eugene. We traveled back to our dorm with a jar of honey in hand to take with us thanks to the president of the bee club.
"I would say today was a success. I managed to get comfortable with the fuzzy workers. They are kind of growing on me already," I declared to my friend.
"It wasn't... intolerable," Wednesday paused between her words.
I got excited and uttered, "Does that mean you had fun?"
"No."
I whined at Wednesday but what mattered is that she found it tolerable. That's a small victory in my book. The good thing is that all three of us were able to have a little bonding time. It honestly felt really great. I'm willing to do this more often, mainly with Wednesday.

Wednesday Addams
I thought I knew Sinclair more than I anticipated. Because of my loss in our wager, Thing directed me to massage him, give him a proper manicure, and go shopping for the best lotion in town to soften himself. Damn Enid and her fearlessness. Saturday and Sunday felt like an eternity of pure agony. Thing sent me to Hell taking advantage of commanding me around to whatever pleases him. I grew agitated at his tasks, but my roommate would do her best to raise my dead spirits. The most important part is Thing not bothering me during my cello and writing time.
It was Sunday night when the torture ended. The hand had fallen asleep next to me on my bed and released the invisible chains bound around my wrists. At the same time, Enid bursted through the door with a massive smile. I had remembered she went to visit her vampire companion to catch up and inform each other of anything new happening in their lives.
"Hi Wednesday. I see Thing is finished ordering you around to do whatever he likes," the werewolf moved her head to glance at the limb asleep.
"Yes. I am free from his misery he tosses at me," I stared at Thing beside me.
The colorful teenager made a bold move to cross over my side of the room and sit on the edge of my bed close to me. What's ridiculous is that I didn't do anything about it nor did I stop her. First, the lycan nudges my shoulder like nothing, and now she is beside me, sitting on my bed. She rather got confident to be this close. How peculiar.
"Don't forget, you tend to have Thing do so much for you as an assistant. As much as I feel bad you didn't win, I'm happy Thing got to rest. He deserves it."
I hate to admit it, but Enid is correct. I wouldn't disclose it with her, yet I acknowledge I've been taking Thing for granted. He has done quite the majority of work for me for the time we stayed in Nevermore. Here and there, I'll recommend permitting him a scheduled break. He's lucky to have Enid stick up for him.
"Everything okay, Wednesday?" I heard the she-wolf ask me as I was deep in my thoughts.
Before I was able to answer, I felt her hand grab my upper arm delicately when all of a sudden, my head whipped back. My body stiffened up as my vision slowly blurred. I could hear Enid's panicked voice with words I cannot decipher. That's when my eyesight changed, and I can see my surroundings clearly. Everything was dim around the unknown area I was in except what was in front of me. There, a bright light appeared with Enid and the gorgon boy together. My head tilted in confusion as I walked to them.
I noticed they were smiling at each other, holding what seemed to be large layers of ice cream in a cone. The two were yapping away when a man behind Ajax accidentally tripped on a large rock and fell back. The tall individual tried grabbing onto something to prevent landing on the ground but ended up pulling down the gorgon's beanie. Enid witnessed it happening in front of her eyes which led to her being stoned with the snakes being unleashed. Then, Ajax falls forwards because of the man and tips over stoned Enid, causing her to split in half.
I stepped back and watched in horror of the she-wolf's death. My eyes were strictly focused on her stoned body broken apart. This is why gorgons are required to wear any forms of hats to avoid others being stoned and accidentally fall where their body breaks. That is what I viewed today in my woeful vision. Out of nowhere I hear a desperate voice—a voice that says save the one who cradles your heart. It was the last thing I heard before I was brought back to my shared room.

Chapter 8: Jealousy is Not Diverting
Chapter Text
"Wednesday?! Come on and snap out of it," Enid worriedly shook the psychic's body who was trapped in the middle of her vision.
Thing, who woke up from the wolf's hysteria crawled over to Wednesday who is laying on the bed thanks to her roommate placing her down carefully. He knew what was happening and grabbed Enid's attention to explain to her the occurrence.
Wednesday is having a vision as we speak. This is her psychic powers kicking in.
"What the hell? The way her head fell back fast looked like it hurt. This is an odd way for her abilities to be this intense," the she-wolf steadily calmed down as she eyed Addams.
Wednesday is experiencing a tragic vision as of now. I wonder what's going to happen.
"Poor Wednesday. I can't imagine having to witness the dark paths she has to see," Enid furrowed her brows, her face showing concern and sympathy.
They both waited for a moment, watching for any movement from the goth when she gasped for air and sat up at the same time. Her eyes were a little wider than usual while staring ahead of her.
"Wednesday! Are you okay?" Enid scooted back to give her friend some space.
The raven averted her dark eyes to the lycanthrope and replied, "I am fine. Just a mere vision from my powers activating."
"That was quite a scare. Thing told me you were having a vision. I never seen anything like that happen before," Sinclair anxiously stated.
"I had a few visions in the past. It's nothing new. Besides, I need to rest for tomorrow. I have an important mission to plan and prepare for," Wednesday removed herself from the bed and walked to the bathroom, closing the door shut.
Enid and Thing faced one another after Wednesday had left them alone.
I know what that means. She will either spectate or prevent someone's misfortune from coming true, the limb predicted.
"She has done this before?" The therianthrope needed confirmation.
She has, Thing confirmed it.
"I learn something new everyday about my roommate."
——————————
Wednesday nor Enid mentioned about last night's event which the woeful teen was grateful for. The Addams went straight to bed while the werewolf busied herself scrolling through her phone to help her fall asleep quicker. The duo were able to get rest up until morning to get ready for school. When the blonde woke up, Wednesday and Thing were nowhere to be found. She thought nothing of it and went on to complete her morning routine.
As for the dark brunette, she was already planning ahead on how to save Enid from her demise with the help of Thing. They were in the quad sitting by the fountain in the middle of the area.
So Enid is the one who needs saving. Usually, you notify me what went on in your vision. I found it odd you didn't give me info about the misfortune, the hand signed to his partner in crime.
"I wouldn't allow Enid to know. One, it'll cause her to excessively panic, and two, Enid figuring out her own tragedy will lead to another that will not pause until it happens. The only way I can save her from dying is to have her eyes facing a different direction other than the gorgon's head. She will live, and nothing bad will happen to her," Wednesday explained the results of Enid finding out the truth and how she can save Enid.
And exactly how are you going to do that? Thing questioned the dark-eyed girl.
"I'm going to tackle her the moment the vision comes to life. I must track Enid down and watch her every move until I spot the precise time she's about to convert into stone. The only piece I am missing is the location of where it happens. Asking will create suspicions. For now, I'll follow her," the psychic built a finalized plan.
You're really serious about it.
"I always am," the pale adolescent crossed her arms after replying.
You know what I mean. I see you becoming a little soft on Enid, the limb moved his fingers around.
Wednesday scoffed and protested, "Clearly, you don't have a clue as to what you are saying."
Mmhm. Sure. You technically didn't deny it. Must be true, Thing teased his partner.
"You little wretched fiend!" Wednesday held a daunting expression to Thing before he crawled away in terror in case she did something to him.
If looks could kill, Thing wouldn't be able to escape. The raven huffed and remained sitting on the edge of the water fountain. Her loneliness didn't last a minute when the queen bee made her presence known.
"It's not a surprise to see you alone here, Addams. Let me guess, did your werewolf roommate get tired of you being super bizarre?" Bianca stood in front of Wednesday.
"The opposite to say the truth. I left my room earlier to pick out my next victim for constant torment. It seems my victim came to me instead," Wednesday lied in the last two sentences to scare her rival.
It worked because the siren gawked at the short girl with concern written on her face.
"I prefer to be the last victim of your psychotic anguish thank you very much," Barclay played it cool.
"I may make an exception. To change the topic, I'm curious as to why you mustered enough courage and energy to interact with me."
"I'm using you as a distraction. I wanted to free my mind from personal stuff I've been dealing with," Bianca sat down carefully a few feet away from her classmate.
"I nearly felt convinced your life came across as perfect," Wednesday quirked a brow at the sudden honest answer.
Dipping her hand in the water, changing her skin into scales, Bianca vocalized, "Not everyone has their shit together like you do."
"What makes you believe I do?" Wednesday interrogated the mermaid-like outcast.
"You don't care what people think. You do whatever comes to mind without judgement affecting you. There's not a lot of burden weighing you down unlike me. People have high expectations of me, and I need to prove that I am better than anyone in Nevermore. That includes you," Bianca was filled with determination.
"You are the sole person who truly envies me. I'm overflowing with bliss because of your slow downfall," the grim teen mockingly stated.
"Tch. Whatever. I don't understand what Xavier sees in you."
"I asked myself the very same question. Thorpe is nothing but a constant headache who has a lower intelligence level than dirt itself. He has zero chance of being my friend or anything more than that. Feel free to keep him away from me. It'll do you harm and more good to me. That way, I can see you two suffer as a brainless couple," Wednesday abruptly ended the conversation as she got up on her feet and walked away from the quad.
Throughout the school day, Addams stayed vigilant for her roommate. During their discussions together, Wednesday had hoped Enid would spill out any plans she had for the afternoon. To no avail, the goth would have no other choice but to ask the lycanthrope. She decided to wait until they visited the beekeeping club. Though, she couldn't get a chance to ask because there's no need to.
"I apologize for the change of plans, but I can't go to Eugene's club today. I'm going to Jericho with Ajax. He said after our last class is over, we would head straight over," Sinclair notified her friend.
"What for?" Wednesday's eye nearly twitched.
"He mentioned a food fest is taking place and thought it would be nice to go check it out and socialize. So if you can, please tell Eugene I won't make it, and that I'm sorry for missing out. Ajax is waiting for me by the shuttles. I'll see you later Wens. Thanks for the favor," Enid beamed at Wednesday before running off.
Like a deer in headlights, the braided-pigtailed girl watched the bubbly outcast speed away from the school campus. Then she felt tapping against her black shoes to find Thing trying to get her attention.
Aren't you going to chase her?
Snapping out of her frozen state, Wednesday demanded, "I will. There's a service you're required to get done, and that is dropping off a note to Eugene Ottinger. Say that Enid and I are unavailable to attend his club due to personal reasons in hope he will understand."
Okay. You can count on me to get it done. Go on and fetch Enid before it's too late, the appendage warned his partner.
The psychic nodded and walked at a fast pace to where the buses were loading up passengers for Jericho. Leaving school grounds and sneakily approaching the bus stop, she spotted the blonde and Ajax climbing the short set of stairs into the shuttle. Instead of going on the same one, Wednesday entered a second bus behind them. Sitting in the front, she kept her eyes glued to the first vehicle as they started driving away at once.
The drive to town was swift when they made it to Jericho. Noticeably, there were decorations and signs put up to reveal a food festival taking place. When the automobile parked, Wednesday was the first to get off, seeing the wolfling and gorgon out of the bus they took. Blending in with the crowd of people approaching the entrance of Jericho, the raven watched the two and their surroundings for potential threats.
There were many people strolling around town for the event with food stands and trucks aligned to gather the attention of customers. As the sole individual who wears dark clothing and stands out easily, Wednesday does her best to hide behind walls of buildings or food stands. She observes every move Enid and Ajax makes from afar. So far, nothing alarming has occurred. It doesn't mean that the gothic outcast can relax. The mission turned for the worse when somebody familiar recognized Wednesday.
"I wasn't expecting you to be a foodie person."
The dark-eyed woman deeply exhaled at the arrogant voice she grew to hate.
"Who said I am?" Wednesday didn't turn around as her eyes remained on her roommate.
"You're here at Jericho for a reason, and that is for the food festival," Tyler plainly said as if it's obvious.
"And you are here to disturb me intentionally with your trifling words. Why don't you be a good little hyde and stay out of my way. If you don't, I'll skin you alive and drain all of your blood to donate to the vampires," Addams gave a warning to the barista.
"I can come with you to try some food items. It sounds boring to do it all by yourself," Galpin went on to place a hand on the girl's shoulder.
It didn't turn out to be the brightest idea when Wednesday turned around to clench harshly at Tyler's wrist and pushed his palm as high up as she can, causing the boy to hiss in pain.
"Ow ow ow. Okay! I get it! You can let go now, please," Tyler painfully pleaded.
"Touch me again and it won't end well for you, Galpin. Do not cross me ever again," the pale teenager's eyes hardened as she unclasped the hand holding Tyler's extremity.
The monster held onto his wrist, rubbing it to soothe the pain and bruising his crush had caused. Meanwhile, Wednesday was fuming with rage when she whirled back to find Enid missing and out of her sight because of Tyler's unwelcoming behavior. Not wasting a single second, she frantically looked around for the blonde through the crowds of people walking in different directions. She maneuvered everywhere she could go without being pushed or bumped into. After spending three minutes frantically searching, Wednesday finally spotted the bright lycan and the snake-haired boy across a picnic area they were in.
What she witnessed made her heart roar of wrath. Her eyes narrowed at the two giggling whatever joke or story Ajax came up with. It threw Wednesday off completely with her emotions rising just by seeing them happy. What's dreadful enough is Petropolus pushing back a strand of Enid's colorful hair behind her ear, leaving the she-wolf frozen at the gesture. The goth couldn't understand the random feeling developing inside of her. Never has she felt this way before towards anybody. It concerned her deeply that the exchange between her classmates altered her hidden emotions.
Wednesday pushed aside the agonizing feelings and focused her attention on her roommate. Without a doubt, her vision is about to begin. Seeing that the Nevermore students are happily eating their ice creams in a cone, the short girl glanced behind Ajax where the man will accidentally stumble backwards. And there he was. Not just any man, but Tyler Galpin. Addams vividly recalled from her vision that she couldn't see what the man looked like. All she saw was the back of him, nothing else. So it surprised her when Tyler is the one at fault for Enid being stoned. Therefore, she readied herself to prevent it from happening.
The moment the barista stepped back, his heel hit the large rock sticking out from the ground, causing him to tumble back into Ajax. Wednesday dashed towards Enid who watched the situation unfold. It was like everything had turned into slow motion in Wednesday's eyes. Galpin had his hand pulling onto the beanie as it came down. Right as the snakes were loose, the therianthrope was shoved harshly to the ground, her ice cream falling out of her hand. Enid felt some weight on top of her after the impact and moved her eyes to see Wednesday laying against her stomach.
Right away, the blue-eyed creature became flustered in the predicament she's in. She felt her face burning at the fact her roommate—who despises physical touch—is laying above her body. Thankfully, Wednesday fastly got off of Enid and stood up without saying a single word. However, the wolf wanted an explanation about the incident.
"Wednesday!? What the hell was that for? You made me waste a perfectly good dessert I was excited to devour," Sinclair sat up from the ground to glare at her friend.
"Better to save you than your sugary concoction. I had to make sure nothing catastrophic happened to you," Wednesday folded her arms, switching her sight from Enid to Ajax who barely put his beanie back on.
She noticed Tyler was nowhere to be found and might've darted away from the disaster he caused.
"Were you spying on us?" Enid interrogated as she got onto her feet.
"I was," the psychic simply responded.
"You can't be doing that. That gives off serious stalker vibes," the werewolf slightly freaked out.
"Would you rather be stoned and accidentally get knocked over by Ajax who then breaks you in half, leading to your impending doom?"
"She's actually right. My beanie came off which would've led my snakes to stone you. Then, the guy made me fall forward, so I could've knocked you over and broken you. It's thanks to your roommate she prohibited your death," Ajax backed up Wednesday.
Processing what Wednesday and Ajax had said made Enid realize something.
"Wait a minute... Your vision from last night. Thing brought up that a tragedy will happen and you were going to prevent it. That means it was about me! You could've warned me beforehand!" Enid began feeling anxious.
"It doesn't work that way. My visions would need to play out for it to move on or else it'll keep throwing bad luck after bad luck to you. At the correct timing, I managed to push you out of danger before you were stoned," the raven clarified.
"Makes sense. But thank you, Wednesday. For saving me. You didn't have to," the lycanthrope gave her thanks and smiled at the short girl.
"I don't understand why I did," Wednesday murmured enough for Enid to hear.
"Because you care," her bright roommate divulged softly.
Wednesday remained silent at the correct assumption. She did care enough to make a quick plan and follow her until the beginning of her vision matched to what occurred a minute ago. With all the strange emotions Wednesday has been experiencing has turned out a mix of unbearable and tolerable. For her, it feels like she has become ten times insane all because of Enid. She can't seem to get away from the werewolf because of how controlled their friendship is.
The jealousy rising inside of Addams whenever Enid and Ajax are together fuels a fire in her stomach. It's the opposite when Enid is with other friends or just with Wednesday herself. She swears nobody has gotten this far in making her feel this way. To her eyes, Sinclair is sacred for unlocking emotions that were sworn to never be revealed. She couldn't help but applaud the blonde.
Wednesday didn't say anything else to Enid and disappeared through the people who are scattered everywhere in Jericho. Enid couldn't help but feel alone when her friend vanished. Even when Ajax is there continuing to finish off their friendly date, the wolf wants to head back to the dorm. Her being a people pleaser, she wanted the gorgon to have fun. Around six o'clock is when they went back to Nevermore. Knowing they would see each other tomorrow in class, they thanked one another for the tasty trip and bid their farewells.
Once Enid arrived at her shared dorm, Wednesday wasn't around nor was Thing. She sensed herself feeling disappointed that her roomie wasn't in the room. She didn't know when she would be back. The good thing is that Yoko messaged her to visit the vampire in her dorm for a while. Enid took advantage to spend time with her other friend to kill some time. It took over two hours before the wolfling decided to go to her room to get ready for bed.
Leaving Yoko's dorm and traveling down the hall to get to her room, Enid expected Wednesday to be writing her novel she's been working on. Not until she opened the door, the circular window was opened with the braided-pigtailed woman on the balcony. Observing the girl, she was playing her cello while Thing watched. To Enid's ears, it sounded eerily beautiful. It was mesmerizing to the point she had to listen to Wednesday play the entire song.
Little does she know, the song "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, is based on how Wednesday feels for her. Almost like she is trying to tell Enid their trust and lives matters and not anything else besides them. That their innocent bond is getting stronger each day where it can help them overcome future challenges such as what took place today. Wednesday knows Enid will not find out the music is dedicated to her. Rather, she resumes playing the cello until her fingers turn numb like her heart was once before Enid came into her life. The one who cradles her black heart.
Chapter Text
The next day approached as Nevermore Academy resumed its work to teach outcasts and normies. Wednesday and Enid continued walking to class together with thoughts filled with each other neither knew about. There is one particular thought the werewolf is contemplating on. That is to give her roommate a thank you present for saving her from being stoned and killed by getting broken in half. She remembered Wednesday had gifted her pastry which she enjoyed a lot. Now, Enid is willing to give her something that will be appreciated. All she has to do is wait for school to be over so she can begin hunting for the perfect gift to her perfect roommate.
And that she did. Skipping cheerfully the moment her last class ended, Sinclair took the bus to Jericho as there is a specific antique shop she remembered across Weathervane and looked it up online when searching for gift recommendations. She knew it would be a great location to pick out Wednesday's present. When the shuttle halted at their stop, Enid got out and traveled to the store called Uriah's Heap. Upon entering the small building, there were collections of old items lined up on shelves and tables.
There were objects ranging from cameras and toys to taxidermied animals that sent shivers down the lycan's spine the moment she set her eyes on them. Getting away from the stuffed animals, the blonde went to a random section and began scanning through the items, row by row, and telling herself what the Addams would like best. Going to the next aisle, Enid found a jar with holes on the lid. Inside is a baby scorpion alive and crawling in circles in the tiny space given. The tan arachnid reminded her of the crochet plush Wednesday owned. Seeing the scorpion trapped in a glass jar made the wolfling feel guilty for it.
Picking up the jar, she said to it, "You poor thing. Who would leave you in a tight space like this trapped?"
She knew the scorpion wouldn't respond to her question. Knowing herself, she's not a big fan of arachnids or insects. However, Enid wouldn't leave the scorpion to die in a jar for no reason. Besides, she thought about Wednesday informing her about the previous scorpion she had as a pet who passed away. In her mind, she believed the scorpion is a great present for Wednesday who will take care of it. Enid hopes it is a thoughtful gift that her friend will love.
"I think you will turn out to be a wonderful pet for Wednesday. She has experience in taking care of scorpions. Surely, she knows what species you are and can figure out how to make you comfortable in our dorm," the she-wolf told the little scorpion.
The door to the shop opened with the bell ringing, indicating someone had gone in the shop or exited. Not paying any attention to who came in, Enid was concentrating on the arachnid when somebody came to the aisle she's in. The therianthrope finally turned her head to see the barista from Weathervane Cafe next to her.
"Hey. I'm Tyler, the barista from Weathervane if you remember. You're Enid, right?" Tyler asked the wolf.
"That's me. How do you know?" Enid wondered how he got her name.
"Wednesday mentioned you to me before. She and I talk to each other quite a lot," Galpin apprised the girl.
"Hopefully she mentioned good things about me then," the blue-eyed teen kept the conversation going, but wished she hadn't based on the next thing Tyler had said.
"Not really, no offense. Let's just say you're not Wednesday's cup of tea. Or should I say cup of poison? Anyways, from what she brought up to me, I hear you are giving Wednesday a hard time although she doesn't show it. Rather, she prefers telling me about it whenever she visits me in the cafe. Whatever you are doing to her, she'll reach her breaking point. Maybe back off as advice from someone who knows Wednesday fairly well. You don't wanna make her upset, do you?"
Enid's eyes widened at the new information and answer Tyler provided for her. It wasn't something she expected from the barista to tell her what the psychic spilled to the boy. She didn't know they were associated with each other the way she and her roommate do. For her to hear the news that the goth is unhappy with their friendship broke Enid. Not to mention how hurt she felt knowing Wednesday is talking behind her back to Tyler of all people.
The only thing she can do now is keep her composure in front of Galpin and respond, "What? Of course not! I never intend to make Wednesday feel annoyed. But if she's been telling you about me irritating her, then maybe I should step back and not bother her. I don't understand why Wednesday wouldn't tell me how she felt."
"She's not the type to tell you how she feels. I think everyone knows that. Yet, surprisingly, I'm exceptional. It's a possibility she likes me more than anyone I know," Tyler stated with a proud smile.
Enid doesn't know that the Weathervane worker has lied about everything he has said. It was never true Wednesday and Tyler have a good relationship towards one another. It's the opposite. The werewolf doesn't realize it and believes the words coming out of the barista. And believing his words crushes Sinclair's heart and envies the boy for winning Addams over without complaint. All those horrible emotions together deflate Enid's confidence and doubts stack up, feeling her and Wednesday's friendship meant nothing.
The dessert and being saved was so Wednesday didn't have to owe anything to the lycanthrope according to Enid. Thinking about it nearly led tears to well in her eyes, but she couldn't afford to let Tyler see the statements affect her.
Whirling her head away enough for the hyde to not see her face completely, she vocalized, "That's great to know Tyler. Thanks for letting me know."
She then stared down at the baby scorpion to keep her eyes away from Tyler. Enid was dreading that the scorpion will be crossing the line between her and Wednesday that can lead to her roommate to lash out. Though, she cannot leave the arachnid to die in an antique shop where it doesn't belong.
"Anytime. I should get going. I stopped by here to search for a few things my dad is looking to buy. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to tell you about Wednesday," Tyler declared while picking up an old clock from the shelf to inspect.
"Yeah... thanks."
Ending the conversation, Enid decided to leave, hiding the container in her coat, and walked out the store in a hurry. The exact time she made it outside, tears began flowing from her eyes. Not wanting to attract attention, she wiped them away constantly anytime a tear fell down. The blonde managed to take the bus and rode back to Nevermore, feeling worse than when she was in Jericho. Arriving at school, she went through the gates and into the quad with a few students lingering on campus.
Enid rapidly strolled through and into Ophelia Hall where her dorm is. All she can do is hope Wednesday isn't there so she can recover from the sad feeling and upsetting news she received. Rubbing her eye to make sure the tears stop, she took a deep breath and entered her room. Feeling nervous, the wolf found Wednesday at her desk with Thing reading through some papers together. With the noise from the door opening, the raven turned around to see her roommate there with something hidden in her long sleeve coat.
Gulping, Enid closed the door and didn't say anything to Wednesday as she went to her side of the bedroom. The dark brunette noticed how unusual her friend is acting. She came in silence without greeting happily to Thing or herself. That included Enid not looking too cheery like she always is. Her eyes and around them seemed slightly reddish in Wednesday's eyes. She believes something had happened to the bubbly girl that destroyed her mood utterly. Right now, Enid's back is facing her as she is contemplating what to say or do next.
"You're behaving odd, Enid. Not a single address to either I nor Thing. And the contentment on your face is entirely wiped away. That's unlike you," the short girl pointed out the shift in Enid's demeanor.
"I-I'm just having a bad day. That's all," Enid stammered out, trying to hold everything together.
Not sure if she wanted to believe her roommate, Wednesday then asked, "You weren't in the room when school was over. Why is that?"
"I went to Jericho alone. I headed over there to surprise you with a gift. You saved me, and I wasn't going to leave you empty handed without thanking you properly."
Enid composed herself as she whipped around and went to the middle to meet Wednesday, avoiding eye contact. There, she uncovered the jar from her clothing and displayed it to the girl.
"So I brought you a pet scorpion. I decided to name it Nero the Second. You told me about your pet Nero passing away and finding the scorpion at Uriah's Heap reminded me of your plushie. I felt bad for it being there at the shop to possibly die. I chose to save it so you can take care of it like you did with Nero and get a second chance to own a pet scorpion again," the lycan elaborated with a soft voice.
Holding the container out, Wednesday steadily grabbed it and held it between her hands. She observed it carefully, not saying anything. Enid, on the other hand, wanted to leave and let the braided-pigtailed outcast to free the scorpion and decided what to do with it next. Once she finally lifted her head to meet Wednesday's reaction, she nearly flinched when her face held what looked like sorrow. Her dark eyes appeared watery but not sufficient to make them drop.
Enid had no choice but to apologize immediately, "I'm so sorry Wednesday! I can take the scorpion to a shelter or maybe let it loose. I don't know what kind of habitat this one lives in, but I'll figure something out. Just please don't get mad at me."
"Enid. I need you to stop talking and listen to me," Wednesday firmly advised.
Pouting slightly, Sinclair nodded and gave the psychic the clear to continue, "I don't understand getting upset over you giving me a pet scorpion will ever pressurize me to feel that way. I... I thought about Nero the moment you showed me Nero the Second. It brought back memories when I was younger and thriving with him. For you to deliver and offer me an arachnid is perhaps the prime present I ever wanted. And this time, I can prevent my new scorpion from getting killed and live its life to the fullest like Nero deserved."
Hearing those words made Enid emotional. Wednesday admitted to having the best gift relieved the werewolf a ton. The raven wanted to make sure this scorpion will live until it dies of old age. The salty tears spilled quickly as Enid tried swiping them away. She was also beaming knowing her gift wasn't hated by the girl she likes.
"You're sentimental today," Wednesday remarked tenderly.
"I know. It's my mind being all weird. Don't worry about it," the blue-eyed girl gave her a watery smile for reassurance.
The therianthrope is muddled on her friend. As Tyler brought it up to Enid, Wednesday would've acted differently in this scenario if she disliked her. The outcome was dissimilar. There isn't any lashing out, harsh words, or ending of a friendship. The only likelihood is Wednesday pretending to be nice. The notion to some degree changed in her head when the dark eyed teenager drew out a black handkerchief from her pocket. Using it, she reached over to dab Enid's tears away under her eyes.
The kind motion made her blush profusely. It was unexpected and not like an action the Addams would do if she's bothered by the she-wolf. Something wasn't adding up and neither was Wednesday drying the tears away. This isn't what friends do. Not even as enemies or acquaintances. Enid has so many unanswered questions, and the only way to get them answered is with the help of her best friend, Yoko.
The raven was finished cleaning her roommate up when Enid muttered, "Thank you, Wednesday."
"No need to thank me. You've done a lot to prove your devotion to me. It is more than enough for you to give me Nero the Second. It's essential to begin constructing a proper terrarium until Nero is big enough to wander around the room. Whoever left him or her in here deserves a knife to their neck."
"I want to agree, but your punishment is very relentless. At least this little scorpion will have a nice place to call home. Good thing I handed it to the right person."
"Agreed," Wednesday replied as she took Nero to her desk to unleash it out of the jar.
Taking this as a cue to leave, Enid claimed, "I'll be right back. I need to talk to Yoko for a little bit."
"Do what you must," Wednesday waved her off.
That was the signal to head off and go to Yoko's dormitory. Leaving the room, she texted her friend to let her in while making her way to the room. Approaching the vampire's dorm, it was slightly opened and pitch black inside. Entering in, there is one candle lit in the corner of the room on a table. Enid could barely see but she didn't miss the silhouette laying on a bed. There is Yoko laying down without her glasses. She's staring at the ceiling and patting next to her for Enid to sit or lay down.
Choosing to lay down, the blood-loving outcast finally voiced, "So what's the rush to see me? Something happened?"
"I'm in deep trouble!" Sinclair dramatically placed her hands over her face.
"Why is that?" Yoko questioned me.
"Because my emotions are all over the place! I don't even know what to do with them," she then dragged her hands down her face, leaving it laying on her sides.
"I can't help you if you don't explain who or what is causing your emotions to bounce everywhere," the vampire took a sip of blood through a straw and bottle she has next to her head, waiting for her companion to clarify further.
Sighing deeply, the wolf confessed, "I think I'm falling for someone."
Nearly spitting out her drink, she sat up and coughed for several seconds before saying, "You fell for Ajax already!?"
"What?! No! He's not the one who I like," Enid's face began turning crimson.
"Huh? Then who?" Tanaka tilted her head in confusion.
"Please don't freak out when I tell you who," she had to prepare the both of them who she is going to reveal.
"Oh! I know! It's Wednesday Addams, isn't it?" Yoko's face brightened up as she figured out the person.
"How did you know?" The blonde screeched, panicking at her friend easily guessing her crush.
"Well... when you tell me not to freak out, it's pretty obvious who it is. But wow girl. She's got you wrapped around her finger, and she doesn't even know it."
"See! That's my problem! Wednesday doesn't do feelings or get involved in relationships. Just friendships if you're lucky enough. How in the world will she even like me? I don't think she even wants to be my friend at all. We're total opposites," she ranted about the issue she's facing.
"Y'know there is a saying that opposites attract right?" Yoko reminded me.
"Right. But here's the thing. I went to give her a present for saving me from getting stoned and cracked in half by Ajax on accident. For your information, she saw it happen in her vision and prevented it from happening. Anyways, I was at Uriah's Heap when Tyler, the one who works at Weathervane, told me Wednesday complained to him about how I am giving her a hard time. I don't know exactly what I did to make her feel that way, but it really hurts to know what I'm doing or saying something makes her feel that way about me," Enid shared her story.
"Hmm... And she hasn't told you face to face, right?" Yoko interrogated.
"Yeah."
"Well I think it's a load of bullshit, and here's why. Last week, I was in Weathervane sitting in a booth with Divina. We were catching up on school when Wednesday showed up at the cafe. Divina and I were eavesdropping and heard your roommate insulting the hell out of Tyler. She would deflect his questions and reject him whenever he tried asking her out. There was a time she was close to breaking his fingers for trying to tap on her. I swear, if looks could kill, that dude would perish from this world. So no way in hell Wednesday is talking shit about you to him. Not at all," the vampire proved her wrong.
"I guess what Tyler said can be bullshit," Enid was coming to her senses.
"Plus, you said Wednesday saved you from being stoned. That means she cares about your safety. If she didn't, you would've been dead already. Also, I remember you told me she gave you your usual order from the bakery as a present. It goes to show Wednesday remembered your order and went through the hassle to get it for you with Tyler being there. She is paying attention to what you like. If that doesn't scream that your roommate likes you then I don't know what to tell you. And I can tell you've been touching shoulders with her too. She's allowing you to do it unlike Tyler who can't put one finger on her," she gave multiple reasons to the wolfling that Wednesday likes her.
"You're right! She wouldn't have done any of those things if I bugged her to the point she can't stand me. Tyler manipulated me into thinking she does secretly hate me. Wednesday does like me. She even wiped my tears away with her handkerchief when I was crying."
"HUH?! SHE DID!?? Are you dense Enid or what?!! She is TOTALLY in love with you! You're the first, lucky being to have Addams voluntarily touch you. That is so romantic!" Yoko shook Enid by the shoulders.
"I'm positive that's what friends do," Enid clutched the girl to stop her from shaking her body.
Yoko gave her a deadpan stare and asked, "Do you see me doing that to you when you're crying or vice versa?"
"No," the lycanthrope responded.
"Exactly! Now, what are you going to do about Tyler since he's clearly in competition to get Wednesday to like him?" The bloodsucker wanted to know her friend's next move.
"I'm going to prove to Tyler my roommate doesn't hate me. I will show him just how good of a person I am for Wednesday and that he'll never have a relationship with her just like I do right now," Enid held a determined and confident expression.
"That's what I like to hear. Go on and get your girl, Sinclair," Yoko smirked at Enid.

Chapter Text
Enid is not one to be subtle. Wednesday is defined that word as the roommates are complete opposites with different personalities traits and characteristics. However, things have changed suddenly with the werewolf. At the end of the week, the raven easily noticed the strange behavior Enid presented. She became a little sharp and prickly. Almost like Wednesday. Once Addams took note of the odd conducts, in her mind she believed something was up. Therefore, she had to figure out the problem of Enid's random issue. Not to mention her own with the reoccurring, blurry memories.
Firstly, Wednesday decided to observe Enid to see what is causing the negativity. Sinclair's jaw clenches out of nowhere when she and Wednesday are chatting together on their way to their classes here and there. Little does the dark-eyed girl know, it's Tyler who makes Enid feel enraged. There are times the psychic has caught her roommate staring hard either at her homework or the ceiling when laying down on her bed. What surprised Wednesday is the lycanthrope getting more clingy and touchy around her.
There were instances where Enid would graze the back of her hand against Wednesday's when walking together. She also gently holds onto the short teens upper arm just to have it there or drag her somewhere. Either way, Wednesday doesn't have an issue with it nor does she feel the need to complain. Not when she secretly enjoys it. Enid remains tender and supportive of her friend. She made sure to rescue her roomie from Xavier who constantly followed and bugged her. She even growled once at him being near her that caused Wednesday's heart to flutter.
The dark brunette continued to search for clues to Enid's behavior. She went as far as asking Yoko for some insight when they both stumbled across each other at the quad.
"Tanaka. I need to speak with you," Wednesday called out as Yoko was about to leave the area.
Whirling around, the vampire said, "That's a first. What is up, Addams?"
"Have you detected a difference in Enid's demeanor lately?" Wednesday asked the outcast.
"Mmm sometimes. Why?" Yoko was interested in why her friend's roommate is interrogating her.
"I wondered if you knew what or who led Enid to act solemn at times. It's unlike her to be this way," the goth woman spilled her concern for Enid.
"I may have an idea as to why, but I cannot tell you."
"And why is that?" Wednesday raised a brow.
"I don't think my wolf friend would want me to tell you. How about you ask her? There's no harm in telling Enid what is going on with her. Besides, I never pictured you to be on edge about her unusual self. I know you two are friends. Yet, you're not the type of person to be worried for somebody. Is there something going on between the two of you that I don't know about?" Tanaka teased and smirked towards the raven.
Turning away to hide the warmth developing on her pale face, Wednesday sternly stated, "I don't know what you're implying Tanaka, but I suggest you keep yourself locked up in your dorm if you want to survive another day."
"Haha! Okay! I'll give myself a head start. Good luck handling my bestie," Yoko told the small teenager before leaving swiftly to her room.
Wednesday pinched the bridge of her nose and exhaled at the interaction with the bloodsucker. In the meantime, Enid is already in the dorm. She is on the pale girl's side of the room where Nero the Second was perched on Wednesday's desk. Turns out, the scorpion is a male thanks to Wednesday examining him. He now lives in a glass cage with a substrate, watering dish, and two hides to make him feel secure. There, Enid is watching Nero crawl around his new home. Thing was next to the cage observing the arachnid as the therianthrope ranted to the hand.
"I'm so lame. I don't know what to do with myself. My stupid werewolf instincts make me wanna claw Tyler whenever I think of him trying to hit on Wednesday. He doesn't deserve her but do I? I mean, Wens clearly isn't a fan of dating or committed to be in a relationship. I like her more than friends which means I was doomed from the start. Maybe I'm meant to be a lone wolf," Sinclair sulked at the possibility of not having Wednesday by her side.
Hey... the good thing is that she's your friend. Wednesday won't leave you if you do stay as friends. And do not forget about me either. I'll stick by your side no matter what, Thing sincerely signed to the blonde.
Smiling, Enid showed her gratitude, "Thanks Thing. It means a whole lot to me. I'll be sure to make you guys happy... or unhappy if that's the case."
I know you will. To cheer you up, want to take Nero the Second outside his house? Wednesday wants him to adjust being outside the tank once in a while, the appendage told the girl.
"Why not. Hopefully he doesn't sting me. Maybe I should get him to like me if he hasn't already," the bubbly wolfling felt slightly nervous to hold the small animal.
Opening the lid of the cage and placing it down on the desk, Enid slowly lowered her right hand near the scorpion. She never held one before but after watching Wednesday do so, she learned to have Nero crawl on her hand rather than grabbing him directly considering he is small. Breathing calmly and patiently waiting, Nero the Second began inching onto the lycan's palm. The moment the arachnid fully stood on the girl's hand, Enid felt a huge amount of agony striking her head. It got to a point where she nearly blacked out and had to be careful from dropping Nero.
With her left hand, she clutched her head desperately to try and ease the pain. It didn't work which led her to breathe heavily and shut her eyes tightly. At the same time, flashes of moving images were playing inside of Enid's mind. All she can see is an adult scorpion crawling on a dead lawn with a little girl's voice talking to it. Barely able to decipher what the child is saying, the she-wolf heard Nero's name being mentioned. On top of that, the girl mentioned it being her pet.
Everything turned blurry to Enid as she cannot make out who the little girl is that came in the picture with Nero. She can see the color of the attire of the mysterious girl, and it's all black with bits of white. The sight wasn't clear and yet, Enid felt the familiarity of the girl. The same girl who has the exact voice as the previous, lost memories the beast heard is now trying to hand Nero over to her. Before she could reach to take the scorpion, the vision vanished and the pain continued lingering on in her head.
She was back where she was in the dorm room. Thankfully, Nero remained in her palm, and Thing was tapping his fingers against the desk to get Enid's attention. It somehow worked, but the blonde was focused on having her hand put pressure on her head to help get rid of the pain. Her face was scrunched up until the door opened, revealing Wednesday entering. The pale girl saw her roommate on her side of the room holding Nero with Thing still on her desk. Her pitch black eyes averted back to her friend who appeared hurt.
"Enid?" Wednesday called her name with eyes widened at Enid's pained face.
"Wednesday," the werewolf removed her hand from her head to avoid suspicion but failed.
"What happened? Did you hurt yourself?" Addams walked over to Enid, searching for injuries near her head.
"N-Nothing happened. I'm completely fine. Like totally fine," rambled as she plastered a fake smile in hopes Wednesday believes her.
"Your definition of 'fine' means the opposite. Especially since you've been acting rather odd for quite some time, Sinclair. There are days you've been fuming at atoms in any room you walk into. Other days, you gaze at a wall where it can crumble into nothing with those hardened eyes of yours. I assume that is why it seems your head is about to explode because you are holding a heavy grudge against someone or something. Or it could be stress and misery you're dealing with on your own that keeps me intrigued. Either way, I request you to tell me the reason behind your atrocious deportment, Enid," the psychic folded her arms and waited for the blue-eyed teenager to speak out.
Whining quietly, the lycanthrope sighed deeply to explain what's been going on. She wasn't planning on telling Wednesday the unrecognizable flashbacks she's been getting. She is willing to admit the cause of anger coming outside of her.
Enid stared at Nero in her hand before facing Wednesday and saying, "It's stupid, to be honest. But... if you really want to know why I'm so pent up, I'll tell you."
All the Addams could do is nod towards the girl and allow the bright outcast to continue with her clarification.
"First off, I lied about why I was upset days ago when you noticed how sad I was when I brought Nero to you. At Uriah's Heap, I was contemplating taking Nero with me when Tyler showed up. He... said some things to me that made me feel defeated," Enid stopped her story to prepare herself for what she is about to say.
"And exactly what did Galpin tell you?" Wednesday narrowed her eyes hearing Tyler's name.
"He brought up that the two of you were very close and that you've been talking to him behind my back. He made up lies about you telling him that I'm giving you a hard time and to stay out of your way before I make you snap. I know it isn't true but still. Tyler's words hurt and irks me to this day. What sucks about it is that what if he's right? What if I'm no longer tolerable enough for you? That's what I am fearing right now. All I know is that, for me to feel better, I need confirmation from you. I mean, you have been by my side without complaint. But I want to be sure," the she-wolf pondered how the braided-pigtailed woman would respond to her sticky situation.
Absorbing every word Enid had disclosed, her fury with Tyler grew stronger. It increased an abundance rapidly where Wednesday is plotting to slaughter the barista without questions asked. For him to let the therianthrope endure doubt in herself just to get her riled up bothered the goth girl terribly. She can feel the overwhelming sensation of protecting Enid from Galpin. That, she will do without a problem.
"Enid... Whatever Tyler has told you, don't bother to tune into his delusions and feed you his propositions. You're correct. His words are not true and will never be. It pains me to profess, but you left an indestructible mark on me. You cannot perform any wrong doing which fits your character. You have the strength of a werewolf and a devoted heart no one can replace. As a result, you're not getting rid of me anytime soon. Not when you made me suffer long enough where I adjusted to your constant torments," Wednesday lightly declared to hearten the one who has been slowly seizing her heart and soul.
"Heh. Guess it paid off then. I'm glad. Thanks for your reassurance, Willa. You don't understand how much it genuinely means to me," Enid softened her face and grinned happily to her roommate.
Witnessing the wolfling this cheery unleashed fondness from Wednesday. Her eyes relaxed along with her jaw unclenching now that her friend is back to her old self. As much as she liked irritated Enid, nothing will ever beat the bubbly and colorful girl she grew to enjoy. With another new nickname her roommate let out, Wednesday felt it to be familiar. In her mind, it confused her intensely. Just like the exact scenario when Enid had initially called her by the name of Wens. She believes there's something wrong or... something missing. And eventually, she will get to the bottom of it.
"It's the very least I can do. Scowling and resentment is my thing," the short girl reminded her friend.
"I know. That's what I like about you. There's nothing in this world that I would change about you, Wednesday Addams," Sinclair announced like a soft-spoken person she is.
Enid's eyes were filled with warmth and affection towards Wednesday. Her face held so much love only the psychic is allowed to see. Never has the dark brunette witnessed anybody looking at her with deep emotions like the werewolf. The sole emotions were fear and uneasiness when it came to her. This time, Enid is the one who isn't weirded out or petrified because of her personality, aesthetic, or interests. The duo truly feel seen by each other, and they acknowledged it the moment they became friends.
Although Enid prefers to be more than friends, she decided to try and court the woman she fell for. She wanted to show Wednesday what she truly means to her. With that, she was bold enough to lean her head over to a still Addams. Her face near Wednesday's, Enid planted a tender kiss on her left cheek, next to her nose. Pulling herself back, the she-wolf's face flared red from the action.
Her smile remained as she said, "I'm taking Nero the Second outside to get some sunlight and fresh air. I should be back in twenty minutes."
Not letting the dark-eyed girl say anything, Enid stepped over to the door and left the room with the scorpion. She left her crush standing still like a statue while Thing watched everything happen in front of him. Then, with her left hand, Wednesday lifted it up to touch her cheek where Enid kissed her. It felt warm and noticeably turned crimson. Thing saw which made him move his body erratically knowing the blonde confidently smooch the grim woman.
I can't believe she kissed you. I must be dreaming, Thing signed hurriedly.
Wednesday was still in shock but dropped her hand as she managed to reply back, "No one has ever caught me off guard. Enid is truly the one to have a successful attempt. Not that it is entirely unwelcome."
Oh my goodness! I have no words, the hand was still surprised.
"And any fingers if you dare to tell anybody about it. This stays between you and I. Understood?" The raven easily intimidated Thing.
Anything you say, I will do.
"Good. There's something I must solve before I turn psychotic more than I already am. It'll be a good enough distraction from what occurred a minute ago. I will need your assistance."
What is it that you need help with? Maybe wooing Enid back? The disembodied limb jokingly teased the teen.
Wednesday glared heavily at the hand which caused him to yield back in fear she would torture him.
"I need an explanation as to why I am receiving what appears to be scattered memories. It's causing me excruciating agony in my head when it begins. I envision them in my mind at random. And every vision I'm in is a little girl's voice speaking. It's difficult to decipher what I'm viewing or hearing. However, they all seem familiar to me, as if I lived through it before. What has me puzzled is Enid's nicknames for me. They feel familiar as well and somehow, I don't recall anyone calling me those nicknames," Wednesday explicated the unexplainable memories approaching in her brain.
Could there be a possibility that maybe you and Enid have met each other before? Thing was trying to put the pieces together.
"If we did, both of us would have remembered. Do you happen to recollect anything in the past that will lead to my unresolved memories?" The goth hoped Thing can bring up a memory in the past.
I can't be too positive about what's important that can help you figure out your problem. There is this one incident when your Uncle Fester and I were staying over at your parents house for a week. During that week, I was helping Lurch make lunch when I heard fighting voices outside. You and your family were all out there. And there was a mother and her daughter fighting with you guys. I didn't have a clue as to who they were or what happened between you guys after I went back to the kitchen.
"That memory I cannot recall nor do I remember my family and I arguing with a woman and a child. What did those people look like, and did you happen to catch their names?" Wednesday needed more information.
The woman had grayish hair with curls to it. She is pretty tall and has claws like a werewolf. Her daughter looked around your age at the time I witnessed the arguing. She has blonde hair and I assume she is a werewolf. Now that I think about it, the kid kind of resembles Enid. Thanks to your mother, I heard her say that the woman goes by the name of Esther, Thing provided as much information as possible.
"Esther. Haven't heard a name like that. Did my mother or father tell you anything about the two individuals?"
Not a single thing. I didn't bother to ask because I believed it wasn't something of my concern. Besides, your parents or Fester didn't mention anything about it that day. If anything, you can ask them to tell you what might've happened that day, the appendage advised.
"Calling my irritable parents through the crystal ball is the last thing I want to do. Though, I rather take the shortcut and solve my problem quickly. They better have all the answers to every question in my mind," Wednesday was determined to unleash the light on her lost memories.
Sounds like a plan. Hopefully they can help you so you won't have to be worried about your memories for too long. Could it be related to your psychic powers? Thing wondered.
"No. Not when I'm feeling pain in my skull and cannot see the full images in front of me. I demand to know who that child is haunting my memories. On top of that, who is Esther that was brave enough to terrorize my family and I? Whatever act she did, her doom will soon come."
Notes:
I apologize for the long wait for this chapter. I was camping for a few days without service so I slacked off writing in my notes with how much activities I was doing. But I'll be back on schedule updating new chapters every few days. I believe I will have up to fifteen chapters for this story before deciding if I want to make another Wenclair story based on season 2. I have a lot of things in store for you guys, and I can't wait.

Chapter Text
Wednesday Addams
My mind is running like a marathon. After learning new information from Thing about the past, there are questions begging to be answered. One, who is Esther? Who was she to my family that I cannot recall? And who is this mysterious blonde girl with Esther that visits my unclaimed memories? When I uncover the hidden past with the aid of my parents, I will finally be at peace.
For the time being, I have been reflecting plenty about Enid. From the moment we encountered each other for the first time to our durable friendship. I'm appalled how far we have turned so close. My roommate has the ability to convince me to respect her. I wouldn't be able to help it with my heart constantly aching for her. I believe my spirit guide, Goody Addams is correct. The voice who told me to save the one who cradles my heart after I envisioned Enid's premature death, has predicted the truth.
The werewolf does hold my heart with care and safety like it is the most valuable item there is. Not only my heart but my existence as well. She knows my boundaries greater than anyone I have ever met and hardly crosses them. She acknowledges my dry and twisted humor without complaint. I noticed Enid is testing the water when attempting to show endearment through touches, words, and expressions. I took notes of myself neither lashing out or making the effort to put an end to the blonde's virtuous nature. Instead, I continue to let it transpire.
Enid's lips warming my face is a prime example of allowing her to do what she pleases with me. If it were to be Xavier or Tyler, they would be inside their coffins, buried six feet in the dirt. The two imbeciles deserve to rot for existing. I can say Sinclair will agree with me. After what Tyler has said to her, creating deception to fuel a fire in Enid, is not an action I tolerate. I guarantee not solely to myself but Enid that Galpin will pay the consequences coming to him. I won't let that happen again nor will I have him win. Not after everything the she-wolf has executed for me.
Speaking of Enid, her word stayed true as she did return with Nero after their walk around campus. She seemed happier upon arrival and so did my pet after handing him over to me. Neither of us mentioned the kiss which would be best. For once, I wouldn't know what to vocalize regarding it. I have not experienced a kiss such as Enid's. I lack the knowledge of knowing whether it is a friendly or a romantic act. The mere thought of it being the first act sends a disappointing sensation throughout my body.
The entirety of the day went quick after completing homework, having dinner, and working on my novel. The next day was the beginning of the weekend. After going through each of my classes and attending Eugene's beekeeping club, Enid and I separated. Earlier, she had asked if I was willing to tag along with her and Yoko to see a play at Pilgrim World. I declined as I knew the play would not be my element. Enid did deflate when I turned down her offer. It wasn't because of her. More so because it would be the perfect time to chat with my horrendous parents.
Thing and I went directly to my shared dorm the moment Enid ran off with Yoko to the shuttles. I arrived and went to my mattress, dropping my bag near my pillow, and leaning down below the bed frame. Digging under my bed, I found my crystal ball as a form of communication with my family. Carrying it over to my desk next to Nero's cage, I settled it down and sat on my chair with the reflection of my face shown against the glass.
Ready to activate the crystal ball, I said to it, "Ring my parents."
After communicating to it, the glass warped with clouds appearing for less than thirty seconds. Slowly disintegrating, both of my parents appeared in the ball.
"Ah! My little poisonous plant! It's good to see you. Quite rare of you to voluntarily reach us," my father was stunned to see me calling them through the crystal ball.
"I agree. Wednesday must be feeling homesick without us there by her side, sweetheart," my mother gazed at my father.
"Don't be mistaken, mother. I only called to interrogate both of you about the past I overlooked. You have the answers that I am searching for," I got straight to the point.
"And what could that be?" My dove parent asked.
"I have been receiving memories back to me without remembering them. Some involving a blonde girl and her voice flashing in my mind. I'm not capable of seeing her face that will help identify her. I asked Thing if he knows anything that I don't, giving him descriptions of the pictures I see. The only clue he gave me is the name Esther in which there was a feud happening between her and our family. Do you happen to know her?"
"Esther? Why, yes. It's been years since I've heard her name. She was our neighbor when we first lived in San Francisco, California. She wasn't fond of our family and didn't want us or her pack near each other. That included her only daughter. You secretly became companions before Esther caught the two of you together hidden in an underground tunnel you two built between our backyards."
"Do you know her daughter's name?" I questioned my parents.
"No. You never told us what her name is before your Uncle Fester removed your memories with that girl in it. Esther hardly gave us any of her family member's names in fear we might do something to them. She caused a lot of damage to you and your old friend. That werewolf is to be blamed for forcing your uncle to erase yours and her daughter's memories you made with each other. It was devastating to witness seeing how much you both loved one another," my mother provided details of what happened years ago.
My eyes opened wide hearing about this for the first time. Not only were my memories wiped about the blonde girl, but I loved her too. My mind ran wild, seeking for answers about the unknown relationship I had with Esther's child. It developed even more questions I had to know the response to.
"So why didn't you bother to tell me about it? Why keep it a secret from me?" I didn't understand the reasoning for all that occurred.
My father finally spoke up, "It wouldn't have mattered if we told you. At that time, we were planning to move to a different state. Bringing your memories back is a difficult process to do. None of us would be able to help to retrieve them. Besides, you wouldn't keep contact with that girl even if you remembered her. Especially when Esther is involved with all of this thanks to her hatred towards us. It felt pointless to your mother and I."
"I suppose you're making sense. However, it doesn't justify Esther's actions. I will find her and make her pay for the trouble she had us endure. The last question I must solve is Esther's last name. Surely, she gave you that information," I maneuvered my eyes between my parents.
I then see my mother knowing the answer to my final question like a lightbulb appearing on top of her head. She was about to speak the name when the shadows in my crystal ball began thickening.
My parent's faces were flickering when all I could hear was, "Est... la-name is... Ssss..."
"Mother? I need her last name," I confusingly called her wondering what was going on with my crystal ball in front of me.
I listened to a hissing sound before the glass started cracking in half. I held onto it in hopes my crystal ball would function. Suddenly, the crack stopped and the ball went dark, no longer seeing my parents. Not a single light showed through the ball as I determined there isn't a possibility of ever contacting my parents with it not working. My hands curled into fists knowing I was close to finding out what Esther's last name is to do research on her and her daughter. All I can do is send a letter to my family which will take days for them to receive and send back the unanswered details.
For now, I am dwelling on everything my parents uncovered for me about my forgotten past. I used to have a relationship with Esther's child and built a tunnel to see her. That is when we were caught, leading Esther to be the reason for using my uncle's power to delete a bond I had developed with her daughter. Altering our memories worked now that I don't have the name of the blonde child. It seems I kept my relationship with the girl a secret from my parents. Terribly, I am at a dead end.
Without my parents, there is no other way to truly know who Esther is or her status. I have to yield back and concentrate on what can trigger the memories. With the help of my father and mother, reenactments could be the key to unlocking the hidden images. Although, it will most likely fail if I can't get the full picture to do so. Again, I need to halt my mission.
You were close to finding out Esther's full name. It feels like the universe doesn't want you to know your past friend or her mother, Thing thumps his fingers against my desk.
"Even so, it will not prevent me from finding the truth. I deserve to know how the girl and I connected. What brought me to care for her? Why did I love her?" I queried to myself.
That's something you should think about when it comes to Enid in the meantime, the appendage signed.
Dumbfounded, I say, "What?"
I mean... you do care and love Enid. Don't you?
"If you've been observing from afar, you would happen to know the answer to your own question, Thing. I recommend you do not make me say it," I narrowed my dark eyes to showcase my seriousness.
Sounds like a good enough response to me. The Addams family curse has been bestowed to you, the hand began dancing around at the admission.
"Seems like secrets are harder to hide than I thought. Unwillingly, it has. From years ago when I was very young up until the present time. What else in the future will surprise me like today?"
Who knows? I can't wait when you figure out the blondie you bonded with and her mother to take revenge.
"Likewise. Only time will lead us to the locked recognition expected to be ruptured like Esther's organs when I seize her in my sight."
--------------------
It was late in the afternoon after eating dinner and finishing up half a chapter of my book before Thing helped set up my cello outside. During the arrangement, Enid came back to the dorm with several shopping bags hung on her arms and hands. She appeared brighter and cheery than before, leaving me to feel content where I am not required to burn the entire school down for her. Greeting me by the door, she set everything on her bed, looking through each of them while speaking with me.
"Sorry for being gone the rest of the day. You probably felt bored out of your mind without me here to chatter your ear off."
"I assure you, Enid, the silence today is more of a gift and less than a punishment. Yet, it felt incomplete without your presence. Almost empty to be exact," I claimed to my roommate.
"Sounds like you missed me, but I know you wouldn't admit it. How'd your day go with Thing?" The werewolf continued searching through her collection of bags.
"Neutral. I spoke with my parents when my crystal ball had a fault to it. Afterwards, I sent myself to practice my archery skills alone when Thorpe decided to manifest himself. Without a second to waste, I left and preferred to work on my fencing abilities. Coming back to our bedroom, I showered, ate dinner, and worked on my novel," I listed off the activities I accomplished today.
"Good thing you busied yourself. If I were in your position, I would probably nap and go on my phone all day until your arrival," Enid disclosed.
"What an unpleasant way to squander your day."
"I know right. Anyways, I finally found what I was looking for."
Turning around, I was able to fully see the wolfling as she approached me excitedly with something hidden in her hand. Stretching her arm out, the hand opened to unveil what appeared to be two bracelets. One is black and the other, pink. Both of them had a type of charm attached to it.
"What's this?" I needed to know the purpose of the accessories.
"They are bracelets, silly. After Pilgrim World, Yoko heard about an arts and craft event taking place next door. We decided to check it out, and I went a little overboard with bringing tons of stuff I created myself and bought. These bracelets are what I made with beads. The cool thing about them is that I picked out and tied these magnetic charms to join each other. Just like this!" Sinclair brought the jewelry together for the charms to connect.
I noticed that it made a whole heart together, indicating that the charm itself on each bracelet is half a heart. It amazed me with the craftsmanship Enid did.
"Isn't it great?! You and I can match now. I know your signature color is black, so this one is yours. Think of it as a small gift. I know it's not much, but I had to make us one. I... thought about you while putting it together," Enid's face steadily converted to a scarlet red as she shyly smiled at me.
Holding out my jewelry, I freely took the craft the blonde built. Glancing down at the bracelet and feeling it between my fingers, I held myself back from blurting out any words that can rat me out of my devoted feelings for Enid. What I can state in my mind is how thoughtful she is to create a souvenir I will hold onto dearly. I'm overwhelmed with emotions ready to explode based on a simple gift given to me.
Noticing that I stayed silent, the she-wolf frantically uttered, "A-Anyways! You don't have to wear it if you don't want to. You can leave the bracelet inside your desk or do whatever you want with it. It's okay."
Raising my head fast, I gazed at Enid and calmly replied, "I'll wear it from now on. During school hours, I will have it hidden under my sleeve. In the dorm, I will unleash it from its hiding."
"That's fine by me. I have no problem with it," the lycan proudly grinned at me.
As I felt the warmth creep up on my face, I whirled away so Enid wouldn't catch it. Carefully sliding the bracelet on to not break it, I stared at it for a minute to give myself time to cool my face.
Then, looking over my shoulder, I offered to her, "I'll be at the balcony playing my cello with Thing listening. You are free to join us if you'd like without distractions or causing a disturbance."
"I wouldn't miss the opportunity of hearing you play, Wens. I just need a second to put away my stuff. You go on ahead. I'll be there soon," the therianthrope accepted the invitation.
Nodding to her, I began walking through the opening of the massive window. There, a seat, my cello, and music sheets were set up close to each other. Glancing behind me, I see Thing communicating with Enid before receiving a bottle of lotion. A corner of my lip nearly quirked up at the glimpse of the hand and werewolf. I'm beginning to think the two are inseparable. Similar to my association with Enid.
I walked over to my cello and bow propped next to the music note stand. Carrying the instrument, I sat down on my chair, positioning the cello between my knees. I flipped through the pages of my music notes in front of me up to a particular piece drawn from Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Bringing the bow to the cello, I launched into playing the first note. It came out faint and mournful, the vibration surrounding me. It wasn’t a joyous melody, more of a slow and aching sound.
As I played, my fingers held onto each note. That's when I felt the attendance of my roommate make her appearance at the balcony with Thing. Not a single noise came out of her as she went to the guard. Placing her arms on the stony railing, I see from the corner of my eye Enid gazing at the shining moon hovering in the pitch black sky. It wasn't a full one, not until another week where it turns into a full blood moon. The sight of her watching it reminds me of her condition.
Not being able to wolf out is eating her slowly. At the last full moon, Enid had no luck transforming. This month will possibly be the same. The blue-eyed girl once brought up the fact she will remain alone for eternity if she never wolf out. Fortunately for her, I won't let her live in solitude. Not when I have fallen for Enid Sinclair. Playing deep within my heart for three minutes, I ended off with a long note. As the sound vanished, there was nothing but pure silence. That was when the lycanthrope turned around with the most radiant beam I ever encountered.
"You played so well, Wednesday. That was... hauntingly beautiful," Sinclair's soft eyes were fixated on me.
My heart thundered at the compliment. With her soothing voice, I believed her last praise was for me, not my performance. I didn't mind it because it made me feel alive more than deceased.
With that, I meaningfully expressed to Enid with my full attention to her, "I'm honored for the credit you've given me. I, too, find it to be hauntingly beautiful."
I yearn she would know the true meaning to my statement, that it is all for her. Temporarily, I must accept the probability of Enid not understanding that she is the first being to be sent a commendation by me. Another accomplishment she has achieved unlike anyone else.
Notes:
Ha ha ha! You thought Wednesday would find out Esther's last name that is the same as Enid's. Not yet, will I do the reveal. Stupidly, I accidently published this chapter unfinished and quickly unpublished it. How embarrassing. Anyways, I have a really wicked idea for the upcoming chapters. For the readers that truly know me and my stories, you know what's coming. I won't say a lot, but if you know, you know. Thank you for reading, and see you all in the next chapter.
